I went to a fairly fancy awards dinner, accepted my prize of a dictionary, cheap plastic trophy, and a $50 savings bond.

I was hooked.

I've STARTED a lot of writing projects through the years, but #DistractionAction is the first one I've actually seen to completion and finally published.

The book was born out of dark times. My wife and I had agreed to a divorce and were moving on with the proceedings. Shortly thereafter, my mother passed away. Couple that with a general feeling of "mid-life crisis" and suffice to say… I was a mess.

I started reading and writing voraciously in an effort to distract myself from a deepening depression.

And for the most part? It worked.

The idea was not only to help myself through these times, but also to hopefully be a help to others. I'd read some Kafka or Kerouac and write my own stories. My hope is that through my creations you might be inspired to also create. Perhaps you'll be inspired to paint, perhaps to sing. Maybe you'll write.

Either way… I hope you will use what I used to get through my hard times to get through some of your own.
