The Subtlest Soul by Virginia Cox

About The Subtlest Soul by Virginia Cox

When one false step can lead to disaster, only the most intrepid dare venture into the Borgia labyrinth. Matteo da Fermo must make that journey, compelled by a duty of revenge. His path takes him into the dark heart of Renaissance Italy. We watch him transform from dreamy, lovelorn adolescent to courageous soldier and nerveless spy. We move from army camps and besieged hilltop towns to noble palaces and the glittering decadence of papal Rome. Along the way, Matteo meets brutal assassins, devious courtesans, flamboyant cardinals, and a rich cast of historical characters, including Niccolò Machiavelli and Leonardo da Vinci.

While negotiating this vivid and colorful world, Matteo is also charting his way through the equally treacherous landscape of love and desire, forced to balance his feelings for his childhood sweetheart Nicolosa with the dangerous attractions of the women who form part of his dangerous odyssey. The most fascinating of these is Felice della Rovere, daughter and spymaster to his patron Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere, a woman “whom the devil seemed to have sent to this earth specifically to bring him to grief.”

Set during the time when Cesare Borgia was ruthlessly exploiting his father’s papal authority to carve out a new empire in central Italy, The Subtlest Soul crafts a colorful and enthralling panorama of life in this remarkable era.

Praise for The Subtlest Soul

Anna Durand is a bestselling, multi-award-winning author of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her books have earned bestseller status on every major retailer and wonderful reviews from readers around the world. But that’s the boring spiel. Here are the really cool things you want to know about Anna!

Born on Lachland Air Force Base in Texas, Anna grew up moving here, there, and everywhere thanks to her dad’s job as an instructor pilot. She’s lived in Texas (twice), Mississippi, California (twice), Michigan (twice), and Alaska—and now Ohio. Her adventures include attending a midnight ghost hunt, climbing to the top of Monks Mound at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, and roaming the Mojave Desert.

As for her writing, Anna has always made up stories in her head, but she didn’t write them down until her teen years. Those first awful books went into the trash can a few years later, though she learned a lot from those stories. Eventually, she would pen her first romance novel, the paranormal romance Willpower, and she’s never looked back since.

Anna continues to explore new and exciting types of stories (a nudist resort, anyone?) while living in Ohio with her two rambunctious dogs and three horses.

A Diamond in the Rough by Jewel Ryu

About A Diamond in the Rough by Jewel Ryu

“From this day on, let everything be fiction.”
With these words, an aspiring scientist is swept away onto the Periodic Table. In a fantasy land where chemicals are people, she finds her place as the element Carbon. Settling down as a circus magician, she enlightens the crowd with traffic lights and vanishing valentines. She encounters a queer cast of characters and Litmus, a pH indicating chameleon. Yet all is not well in the kingdom of chemicals; Oxygen, the electron thief, burns and corrodes any metal he pleases. Following the mysterious disappearance of Gold, Carbon sets upon a quest to capture the thief. Upon encountering two strangers and a band of fire-eating devils, she finds herself caught up in a contract with the thief. In return for his life, she agrees to accompany him on the search for the alchemist. Arriving at a castle of caves, they travel through a cloud chamber, a forest of rust monsters, a haunted inn, a labyrinth, and a rainbow lake. Their journey extends to a cosmos unbeknownst to humankind, ensuing several cryptic messages. In the end, the worst lie reveals an incredible amount of truth.
At the far west, the Alkali Desert is home to the most reactive of metals. In a land where water is a taboo, a draconian potion, tensions are high at the news of a rising storm. Eastward, the Halogens prepare for battle against a band of islanders, metals, and nonmetals. Between a collection of spellbinding puzzles and color-changing reactions, Carbon comes to question everything she had known. Tangled up in the middle of a war, she and her friends must devise chemical schemes to stop the world from falling apart. They soon discover they are in far more jeopardy than they could have ever imagined.
Want to impress your friends with some scientific knowledge? A flip of the page is all it will take to acquire the greatest insight, delivered in surprisingly simple language. The story will walk readers of any age through the enchanting world of chemical reactions. Bringing personification to the highest degree, the saga casts a new light upon drab materials of the lab shelf. From the ground to stars, galaxies, and universes, the novel will carry those daring enough up into different dimensions. With a unique twist of the plot, readers will encounter a lifetime’s worth riddles yet to be solved. Through an adventure rife with humor, action, and a bit of dark mystery, the series brings light to a crisscross of genres. This crazy-quilt sequence of events will captivate fans of crime and detective novels. Sprinkled with jokes, quips, and bonds, it offers a pleasant escapade into a romantic comedy. The series is a laboratory by itself, proving possible a bizarre, splendid, unlikely fusion between fiction and nonfiction. Those with a taste for the unusual will be fascinated by this tale of dragons and knights presented at the molecular level.
A spectacular tale of friendship and courage, ‘A Diamond in the Rough’ is peppered with art, poetry, and enigmas. ‘The Elements’ introduces readers to a new era of magic – magic opposed to the fairytales saying, the witch mixed the herbs, the fairies happened to make a mistake. The stirring stick being a little wand of its own, characters come up with bombs worth Zeus’s thunderbolt, poisonous drinks, and even potions of emotion. Bringing life to the rigid realm of numbers, the plotline revolves around struggles for power and romance, as a striking parallel to human society. It brings attention to not only chemistry, but a realm of lucid dreams, geometry, and artificial intelligence. Keep your eyes open for the next string of books – The Prince of Magnets, A Strange Cliffside Factory, A Chiral Universe, Something Denser than Love, and Schrodinger’s Lost Cat.

It’s Only the Dream that Counts: Short Stories All Over The World by Arye Dreyfus

dream counts book coverIt’s Only the Dream that Counts: Short Stories All Over the World by Arye Dreyfus

Arye Dreyfus has extended his career for long years as an envoy to Africa and Europe. He describes unique people as dissimilar as people can be without condoning or condemning but with an evident empathy.
At first stories revolving around such at odd characters do not belong together but in this curiosity piquing book they do as they all share an essential characteristic, they never give their dreams up. Each of his cases delves with a peculiar issue, together they are a bunch of human beings unflinchingly chasing their dreams in a bitter struggle against the misery and the complexity of life. They do not belong to the high society or to the wretched and poor, just ordinary people trying to come to terms with the resistance their struggle inevitably raise. Their twisted trails take us among others from Berlin to the jungles of Africa, from an empty airport in New- York to a Nazi celebration in Paris during the Second World War and to an evening under shelling in Haifa.
Love, all kinds of love, is characteristically a main component especially love in situations of alienation and distress. Faith and nationalities aren’t relevant but the Jewish background of the author is never in doubt.
The Motto of this book could be:
Keep true to your dreams, they often bear the seedling of new realities.
The Author life story makes him a natural candidate to join the lists of characters the reader will encounter. Arye eighty years old often tells he has accomplished two things in his life, awaking in the mornings after a night spent dreaming about one of his nine grand- children and expecting one of his dreams come true.

Arye, a teacher born in France, describes dire facts, but being an Israeli he doesn’t let them merge into an apparently hopeless situation. He has as impressive record both as an educator and as envoy to various missions, mainly in Europe and Africa. He doesn’t condemn or condone, he just eloquently unfolds a story of a decadent society that fifty years later doesn’t seem ready to come to terms with its own inconstancy.

From the time we were old enough to comprehend language, we were told to have a goal. It took me almost fifty years, but I finally found it. To be more specific, I no longer want to put on pants to go to work.

You are most likely wondering how being pants-free relates to writing. A writer can write from anywhere, wearing anything, or wearing nothing at all. In fact, I am writing this from my couch, in a t-shirt and underwear. My apologies for that visual, but it was necessary to advance the plot.

Becoming a writer is easy, like running, just start doing it. If you run, you are a runner. You don’t have to be fast, you just have to run. If you want to write, start writing. Getting paid to write something is difficult. Getting paid to write full-time, for a living wage, is shooting for the stars.

If you want to write for other people, not just for your own enjoyment, you need an audience. That brings us to why you are here. I hope to use my works, my website, and my Facebook page to build an audience.

Blogging seems to be a great way to start. I hope to entertain, inform, be insightful, and share some personal stories. I enjoy telling stories. My posts will most often be a humorous short story with the other aspects mixed in. If you stick around, I plan to write a few essays, articles, longer short stories, and more novels.

If you have some time, skip on over to the blog page at: pantsfreeforlife.com/blog
If you prefer Facebook, search for “Pants-Free for Life”.
If you prefer emails, use the newsletter form at the bottom of my website at: pantsfreeforlife.com

Thank you for stopping by. Don’t be a stranger.
