Flight of the SkyCricket by Gordon Greenhill

About Flight of the SkyCricket by Gordon Greenhill

In our world, science and mythology are mortal enemies. But what if a world existed where they were the same thing?

In this first volume of The Relics of Errus, Flight of the SkyCricket, three sisters-Eli, Anna, and Rose Hoover-stumble through a window in the wine cellar of an old Victorian house and find themselves in Errus, a world where natural disasters give birth to mythological creatures-some harmless, some horrific. Caught up in a quest involving impassable deserts, dangerous jungles, dark mountainous caverns, and a menagerie of dwarfs, fairies, knights, and quirky scientists, they search for the mythical Well of the sea goddess Therra, which seems to be their only way home.

Trapped in a world that births fairies from windstorms and dwarves from earthquakes, everything rests on finding the lost Well… if it even exists. Both the pious and skeptic make their case along the way, but belief may not always be something you choose-sometimes it is something that happens to you.

Author Bio:
Gordon Greenhill completed a degree in theatre and communication in his youth, then went on to earn a Ph.D. in moldy old dead European men. After fifteen years teaching at university, he became a professional audiobook narrator and discovered he liked writing fiction more than lecturing on theology. Most importantly, he's a husband and father of four amazing kids, who like his reading of Harry Potter better than Jim Dale's… but they may be prejudiced.

Author Bio:
Zach Abrams is a writer of thrillers and crime novels. He lives in Scotland but spends much of the year in the Languedoc region of France.
Having an unusually varied education and work history, Zach could draw on an extensive range of life experiences when developing his characters and stories: a science degree, a management post-grad, a professional accountancy qualification followed by a career as a CFO, business director and consultant in a range of industries as varied as transport, ostrich farming, manufacturing and public service.
With considerable experience of writing reports, letters and presentations, it's only recently he started creative writing of novels – "a much more honourable type of fiction," he claims.
He has seven novels published plus his collaboration with Elly Grant on a book of short stories and a non-fiction business guide book. There are four tartan noir books in his Alex Warren Murder Mystery series, set in Glasgow, Scotland.
The first, 'Made a Killing,' is a British Police Procedural featuring Detective Chief Inspector Alex Warren as senior investigating officer. Assisted by female detective Sergeant Sandra McKinnon, they’re supported by a team of detectives, scene of crime technicians and other specialists. The corpse of a much hated criminal is found with an elephant tusk impaled in his chest. Besides the main murder investigation, the team research a range of other criminal activities including financial crime, fraud, blackmail and extortion. Away from the crime investigation, there’s family drama as well as a touch of romance and more than a sprinkling of humour. Readers familiar with Glasgow may recognise locations as the detectives tread their weary path, researching the crimes to solve the mystery.
The second, ‘A Measure of Trouble,’ has Alex's team seek the murderer of a CEO killed within the cask room of his own whisky distillery. Investigations lead them to interview the victim’s family, employees and colleagues as they consider the varied motives of greed, revenge, adultery and nationalism.
The mysterious death of a successful author begins the third, 'Written to Death. Alex and Sandra are swamped by work as they have to deal with a second enquiry, this one into organised crime, and it runs in parallel with the main murder investigation.
The fourth, ‘Offender of the Faith,’ investigates when a young Asian girl was sexually assaulted and murdered. Sandra is off work on maternity leave. Alex and his team require kid gloves to handle the ultra sensitive investigation with both the victim and her boyfriend’s families brought under intense scrutiny Potential motives of racism, Islamophobia, hate, jealousy and honour killing all have to be considered.
These are fast moving, gripping, murder mystery novels set in and around the tough, crime-ridden streets of Glasgow.
Zach’s first novel was 'Ring Fenced', a psychological thriller is a crime story with a difference, following one man's obsession with power and control. Benjamin, the main character, uses five separate personae to independently control the different divisions of his life. The story shows what happens when the barriers break down. Anti-hero, Benjamin, was nominated and shortlisted in the category of best villain in the 2013 eFestival of Words.
Zach's quirky thriller, 'Source,’ centres on financial crime. Three investigative journalists travel across the UK, Spain and into France. They suspect economic terrorism as they research corruption and sabotage in the banking sector. They face personal threats and all the time they’re trying to cope with their own fraught private lives. Despite the weighty subject matter, it’s a light read, with plenty of humour, family drama and romance.
His latest thriller, ‘133 Hours,’ is being released on 20 January 2020. Briony Chaplin arrives at work to find she’s lost more than five-and-a-half days with no recollection of where she’s been or what had happened to her. Assisted by friends and a retired detective, she’s determined to learn where she’s been and why.
A collaboration with Elly Grant produced 'Twists and Turns,' a book of short stories, ranging from flash fiction to a novella. All have mystery and an element of the unexpected.
Zach's books can be purchased from Amazon as eBooks, paperbacks and Audiobooks.
Alike his central character in 'Ring Fenced,' (Benjamin Short), Zach Abrams completed his education in Scotland and had a career in accountancy, business and finance. Married with two children, he plays no instruments but has an eclectic taste in music, although not as obsessive as Benjamin. Unlike Benjamin, he does not maintain mistresses, write pornography and (sadly) does not have ownership of a mega internet distributor. He is not a sociopath (at least by his own reckoning) and all versions of his life are aware of and freely communicate with each other. More in keeping with 'Alex Warren', Zach was raised in Glasgow and has spent many years working in Central Scotland.

Reversed: A Memoir by Lois Letchford

Reversed: A Memoir by Lois Letchford

In 1995, the school diagnostician stated, “He’s the worst child I’ve seen in 20 years of teaching.”
Do you have a child struggling with reading?
What labels has your child been given? How do you feel they will progress through school?
This is a story for you!
Every parent has high hopes for their children. When Lois Letchford learns her son has been diagnosed with a low IQ at the end of grade one, she refuses to give up on his future.
After thorough testing, Nicholas proves to have no spatial awareness, limited concentration, and can only read ten words. Although discouraged, Lois knows things have to improve. After all, her son is young, and every child learns at their own pace.
But once Nicholas is labeled “learning disabled,” a designation considered more derogatory than “dyslexia,” the world of education is quick to cast him aside.
Determined to prove them all wrong, Lois temporarily removes her son from the school system and begins working with him one-on-one. She has no formal reading education herself, and no one to guide her. But she has hope and the strength of will to persevere. And sometimes that’s all you need.
What happens next is a journey—spanning three continents, unique teaching experiments, never-ending battles with the school system, a mother’s discovery of her own learning blocks, and a bond fueled by the desire to rid Nicholas of the “disabled” label.
Reversed is a memoir of profound determination that follows the highs and lows of overcoming impossible odds, turning one woman into a passionate teacher for children who have been left behind. Nothing is impossible when one digs deep, and looks at students through a new lens.

Author Bio:
Lois Letchford specializes in teaching children who have struggled with learning to read. Using creative teaching methods, Lois perceives reading instruction as a dynamic quest to meet the complex needs of students. Her goal is to place them on a path to become “skilled readers.” Her creative teaching methods vary depending on the reading ability of the student, employing age-appropriate, rather than reading-age-appropriate, material. Lois writes poetry, empowering her students to see themselves as authors. When her students have been exposed to a wider range of texts, she returns to existing conventional material to re-engage students, who become active, involved learners ready to re-enter the traditional classroom confidently.
Originally a physical education teacher, she completed a Master’s in Literacy and Reading at SUNY, Albany. Lois presents her work at numerous conferences around the world.
