Jeffrey Mechling was raised in a family full of secrets. His maternal grandfather was thought to be an agent in the OSS and made several trips to Germany before WW2.
Although Mechling’s grandfather was never known to have served in the military, he was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with the rank of Major. To this day no one knows why. A number of other Mechling family members and friends had jobs with the United States Government that they “just could not talk about”. “This all seemed normal to me” Mechling once said in an interview.
