Luisa Marietta Gold was born in Pennsylvania where she spent a large part of her adult life. She moved to North Carolina after the birth of her only daughter. She published her debut novel, Escape to Osprey Cove, which is Book 1 of The Osprey Cove Lodge series in September 2016. The Osprey Cove Series was born from Luisa’s love of the Rideau Lake region of Canada, the outdoors, and lake life. She spent many years enjoying the Rideau region while staying in lodges reminiscent of the lodge in her first novel. She currently resides on eleven acres in her North Carolina home near an idyllic lake with her husband and several mixed labs. She spends as much time as possible enjoying the beauty of the lake. Luisa also does acrylic painting. The cover of her debut book which features The Lady Droxell on a Canadian lake was painted by her. Born and raised in Chicago, Adair had a happy but unremarkable childhood, ever trying for school grades good enough so she could go unnoticed. Teachers remarked on her report cards that she was too shy. That was then. She now loves to ham it up on stage. Go figure.

Adair lives on the ruggedly beautiful West Indian island of Montserrat with her English husband and their series of Westies and island dogs. An English major, Adair attended Blackburn College and Southern Illinois University, followed by evening classes at the Chicago campuses of Loyola University, the University of Chicago, DePaul University and later Tulane University in New Orleans.

Never unemployed, Adair considers her more than five year stint in the Advertising Department of Playboy magazine’s Chicago home office as one of her more interesting jobs; she always had too much to do and was never bored. Before leaving Playboy, she managed the business office of the Chicago Playboy Mansion.

Another favorite job was at Southern Illinois University in the Department of Graphics and Publications where she worked with writers and editors, artists and designers. She also owned and managed a secretarial service across Lake Pontchartrain on New Orleans’ north shore.

Adair was inspired to write by her engineer husband, who built her a studio for that purpose. “So what else could I do but start writing? I finally ran out of excuses not to.” And so Paul Gregory, the saloon-owning private eye was created. There are now four books in the series and the fifth is a work in progress.

Adair feels fortunate to have a studio where she can paint as well as an office where she writes. She observes, “We live in a place where even the most mundane task can be performed in a setting of breathtaking beauty. We’re surrounded by the magnificence of the Caribbean at cliff’s edge, islands in the distance, mountains as a backdrop and flowering trees and gardens everywhere in between. The air we breathe is clean and fresh and our water is pure and delicious. Life is good.”

When I was 11 years old, a murder was committed in the vicinity of my school. A few days later, while with my group of friends, we discovered evidence that the murder had actually happened on the school ground. We also thought that we found evidence that our school headmaster might have been involved in the crime.
After deliberating among ourselves, it was decided that we would gather all our findings and take it to the police. After thanking us for our initiative, we came to believe that the constable had contacted the headmaster and not only recounted the incident to him but also given him our names.
What had convinced us that the constable had betrayed us? probably because a few days after our trip to the police station we noticed that the headmaster and one of the teachers were watching us intensely.
A few weeks after that, one of the boys in my group who was only 10 years old and whose teacher was the one watching us and pointing at us while conversing with the headmaster died mysteriously during lunch at school. The same week, I became convinced that the headmaster had tried to run me over with his car. I had not realised that it was him until he came out of his car, looked straight at me but did not try to give me a hand or help me up. Instead, he gave me an evil grin and got back in his car. He then proceeded to reverse the car prompting me to run away.
When I informed my father he told me that I misunderstood his motives and it must have been an accident, I disagreed.
Living in fear, we decided as a group to stop investigating; we were becoming paranoid and it felt like we were being watched by every single adult around us.
One of the boys refused to keep silent, convinced that it was our duty to bring the headmaster to justice.
It did not go well, he was locked in a mental institution by the end of July; we later heard from other students in town that his family was suspected of being members of the Famla, a cult known for its human sacrifices in exchange for wealth. It made sense, his family had become extremely wealthy after the death of his mother’s sister; there was also the fact that another suspected proud member of the Famla was the headmaster from hell.
Rumours have it that the headmaster and the Famla continued to kill after we left the school, my dear friend who we had been forbidden to visit has supposedly taken his own life after 2 years in a mental institution although we never heard of a funeral and the rest of our group never gathered again.
The book is inspired by that story.
