You Can’t Buy Love Like That: Growing Up Gay in the Sixties by Carol E. Anderson

About You Can’t Buy Love Like That: Growing Up Gay in the Sixties by Carol E. Anderson

How do you live an authentic life while keeping a secret?

This award-winning memoir chronicles one woman’s struggle to be true to herself as she grapples with the ramifications of accepting that she’s gay amid the religious, social and legal norms of the Sixties.

Growing up in a fundamentalist Christian household, and fearing the rejection of her parents, she keeps the secret of her love orientation for many years until the unexpected death of her father causes her to face what she’s lost in not telling him the truth.

Candid and poignant, You Can’t Buy Love Like That reveals the complex invisible dynamics that arise for gay people who are forced to hide their true selves in order to survive and celebrates the hard-won rewards of finding one’s courageous heart and achieving self-acceptance and self-love.

This book offers hope to those seeking to live truthfully as well as those who value the triumph of love over fear.

Author Bio:
Before becoming a full time writer I was an organizational consultant and leadership coach who supported people to live more authentic lives in and outside of work.

Travelling the world for work and pleasure has always expanded my sense of wonder and gratitude. My most recent trips were to Kenya, New Zealand, The Democratic Republic of the Congo and The Dominican Republic. Exposure to many different cultures engenders a deep respect for the resilience and beauty of people around the world, and inspires my sense of global citizenship.

Significant passions include photography, travel and empowering women to lead lives of their own choosing. Founding Rebellious Dreamers, a twenty-year strong non-profit organization that helps women over age 35 realize dreams, has been a way to positively impact women on their path to realize their personal visions.

My award-winning first memoir, You Can’t Buy Love Like That: Growing Up Gay in the Sixties, has won twenty awards and my essays have been published in The Huffington Post, Curve Magazine, The Advocate, and Pop Sugar. I am working on a second memoir tentatively entitled,
Softening Into Love: The Gift of Vulnerability.

At this stage of life my goal is to live with a peaceful heart – a state regularly cultivated through walks in nature, meditation, and heartfelt conversation with friends. I live with the love of my life and our entertaining pup, Saxon, in a nature sanctuary in Ann Arbor, MI.

About Any One of Y’all Coulda Done Did It: The Murder of Mayor Spurgeon Turgeon Reynolds (Murder Mystery Party for 16 Players)

NOT YOUR AVERAGE MURDER MYSTERY PARTY

WARNING: This book contains a great deal of vulgarity and tomfoolery. Please do not proceed if you are easily offended, triggered, or use Twitter.

The year is 1898. As much as Baby Anne secretly hated her husband, she never imagined anyone would hurt him. But they sure did. And now he’s stone cold dead. The story begins in Baby Anne’s North Carolina home as the late Mayor’s friends and loved ones gather after his funeral. Polite conversation turns to chaos as the accusations fly. Who murdered the Mayor? Will justice be served? If a train is traveling west at 60 mph, how much will the tickets cost?

In this mystery, everyone has something to hide: from the local brothel proprietor to the not-so-naïve stable boy.

This spellbinding murder mystery dinner party book is your key to hosting an unforgettable evening. It includes a guest list of 16 captivating characters, a mesmerizing 3-act script, printable downloads, and clear instructions on how to host the party.

To ensure every guest at your dinner party can participate in the fun, purchase 16 copies of this book (one for every guest). Alternatively, you may ask each guest to buy his or her own paperback or Kindle copy, but the guests must promise not to read the script ahead of time.

Finding Real Love

About Finding Real Love

One kiss changed everything.

Sounds like something out of a fairy tale, but it’s more like a reality TV show.

And thanks to that show, I finally get my big chance at fame.

But there’s a catch.

My fiancée needs to star in the show too. The damn thing is for couples.

The only problem?

I’m not engaged.

But that’s not going to stop me.

Surely, there’s a lucky lady in the world willing to play my fake fiancée for a trip to Hawaii.

And I know just the girl.

But things never work out as planned, and I have to make a decision soon after we get to the show.

What’ll it be?

The fame I’ve lusted after, or the real love I never expected to find?

Fun with Russia

About Fun with Russia

Art meets espionage as artist Lee Owens brings down the Kremlin’s walls under an onslaught of graffiti, political cartoons and covert public art attacks.

Talented artist and cynic Lee Owens has a ‘Pet Project,’ a blog, where he anonymously posts cartoons critical of the Russian president. His political satire is so popular and scathing, the country’s supreme leader orders the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence, to find the cartoonist and silence the humor. While the artist is being hunted in America, he and a small group of operatives, head for Russia to raise a little creative havoc and start a revolution.

(Attack Examples: A 45-foot-tall blimp of the federation’s president is floated down the middle of the Neva River in St. Petersburg. Plastic mannequins wearing tutus, modeled after Russia’s supreme leader are glued to the pillars in front of the Bolshoi Theatre. The ‘President’s Palace north of Sochi is spray painted black, windows, garden, and all, (a homage to Christo).

The pen is mightier than the sword. A creative mind is a dangerous thing. Some more dangerous than others. The lesson: it’s best not to meddle with another country’s Democracy.
