First I am NOT a psychologist, clergyman or professional counselor. I am man who grew up on a farm in Idaho but have lived all across the United States. I am a father, husband, friend, and neighbor. I have had a good life, but like almost everyone, I have had times where I questioned myself and God. However, when I looked in my “rear view mirror”, I have seen where things have happened that was totally out of my control. Each of these worked for my benefit and safety.

I believe strongly in prayer and/or meditation, for those that don’t believe in prayer. At times when I prayed I have thought my prayers weren’t answered because I didn’t get the response, I had wanted, but, after looking back at the overall result I realized had I gotten my desire it would have been a disaster for me and/or my family. I used to be someone that played golf every day until the day came that changed that. I was on my way to play golf with some friends when I had an accident at a gas station tripping over a gas hose. It shattered both my wrists and my right elbow. I can no longer swing a golf club BUT my focus was changed to raising our son that I had neglected. He was just 8 years old at the time. I really had not spent any time with him due to my excuses of building a business for us. or, golf. He was the last of my 5 children.

I missed out on the rearing of the first four due to very selfish reasons. Luckily they had a fantastic mother who did double duty. A few years ago I lost my oldest son to cancer. A year after I had my accident is when we found out our oldest son had his disease. It was too late to make up for lost time. A son I had ignored in the same way as I had the youngest. Looking back I don’t think I would have changed had I not had something arise that changed my perspective and priorities.
