Drawer #7

About Drawer #7

“I don’t enjoy violence. I’m just—” She shrugged. “—good at it.”

She comes to life in a place she’d never have been caught dead: The stage of a strip club. Aghast, confounded, she turns to bolt, only to find herself staring into a wall of floor-to-ceiling mirrors. Her heart slams with panic. Because that is not her face! When the bouncers turn aggressive, and won’t let her leave, she fights her way to freedom with skills she didn’t know she had.

When Freddie meets the woman with no name—an amnesiac—he’s hopeful that his life of loneliness has finally come to an end. Edgy, eccentric, and brutally beautiful, she is the most uniquely fascinating—and uniquely broken—woman he’s ever met.

But hidden in the past she can’t remember are threats that prove perilous to forget. Every door they open in pursuit of her identity only leads to three others, behind each of which something sinister lurks.

She talks in her sleep: Sea level. Desalt. Drawer number seven. What could it possibly mean? Uttered once, probably nothing. But for months on end? It has to mean something.

Who is this woman who has no name? And just how far is Freddie willing to go for love? Will he die for it?

Will he kill?

Jeff Wade is a grandmaster and instructor of Taekwondo and wrote the novel Drawer #7, the novella Finding Nowhere, and the short story Dread. He was the Crabb Writing Award winner at Belmont University in Nashville. With over three decades practicing and teaching martial arts, and an extensive background in firearms and gunsmithing, Wade’s writing depicts action scenes with uncanny authenticity. But his stories reach far deeper than that. He has also studied psychology, which he applies both on the mat and on the page. His characters are loaded with ticks and quirks that breathe life into them. The scenarios in which they find themselves are not only difficult, but often heart-wrenching. While his themes tend to the dark side, they are gilded with light. The characters–and the reader–are posed tough questions. Perplexing scenarios. Moral dilemmas. All with a hint of dark humor. Jeff Wade lives in Miami with his wife Chikako, four kids, a dog, a bunny and a chicken.

Author Bio:
Adolphe Belot has been an extremely popular novel and drama writer of the 19th century, a literary star of his time. Honorary Vice-President of the International Literary Association, he received the Légion d’Honneur in 1867. The Woman of fire has had 67 editions published in 4 languages.

As Olympe Audouard wrote in her Silhouettes Parisiennes “…his talent is very big, very real; his imagination is lively and fruitful, it produces without effort… his style, elegant, clear, pleasant, does not feel the torture imposed by some writers to shape the sentence; he must write as he thinks, only he thinks in good French and his ideas are clear and precise, he only has to write them as they are formed in his mind.”
The English translation by Marina Rooms is the only contemporary one.

My name is Ryan Janz and I live in Anytown, USA, and I have chosen not to include my photo on my social media pages at this time in the abject fear I will be recognized and therefore mobbed by crazed fans. For example, say I post my picture, and let’s also say I’m walking my dog down my friendly neighborhood street, you know, Main Street, and as a result the unthinkable occurs:
1. I am breathlessly asked by a passing neighbor to autograph my thrilling new Noir/Private Investigator novel, Boulevard Dreams, or I’m pretty sure that’s what he said.
2. My neighbor doesn’t have the book with him, or as he put it, “I’ve never heard of your stupid piece of trash and you frighten me”.
3. I give him a copy I happen to be carrying in my wheelbarrow.
4. My neighbor is hesitant in believing I wrote the book.
5. I produce my driver’s license for proof of my authorship, careful to place my thumb over my picture because I do not wish to be recognized and therefore mobbed by crazed fans.
6. My neighbor threatens to call the police.
7. My dog insists we hastily return home, and as we do, I lower my baseball cap across my face because I do not wish to be recognized and…etc.
8. I hear police sirens and as I hide below the trap door in my basement my dog decides to move out.
9. While living under my basement and perusing a handy book containing chock full of fun survival techniques, it occurs to me I don’t own a dog.
10. Having read how baked rat can easily be transformed into a healthy snack while overthrowing the government, I hear a dog howling in the distance, reminding me it’s time once again to collect my wheelbarrow and join my best friend for a pleasant walk down Main Street, USA.

Fat Chance

About Fat Chance

Sean McDermott is a wisecracking private detective from New York City, with an extensive catalog of phobias. It’s an ok job, but it isn’t as exciting as most people think, and that’s fine by him. He makes it a rule not to get involved in active police cases or in any case where people are likely to get hurt—especially him. So why does the mob suddenly want him dead? Sure it’s all a mistake, but dead from a mistake is still dead.

Refusing to fly, he borrows a Mercedes from his friend, the Juke, and starts on a cross country drive to LA with the idea of lying low until the heat settles. He makes it as far as Mystic Falls, New Mexico before the borrowed Mercedes conks out. Mystic Falls? Think Green Acres, but without the sophistication.

All he had to do was keep a low profile and wait for the car to be fixed. It might have worked too, if only the local “character” hadn’t turned up missing, with him as the prime suspect. Now if he ever wants to get out of this sleepy desert asylum, he’s going to have to find her. Sound easy? Fat chance.

Author Bio:
Yes, I write novels, but I hate being pigeon-holed into any specific genre, so I’m a multi-genre author. My first book, the science fiction novel Tigra, was followed by its sequel, Tigra II: for the Sins of Rothra Orr. It is, in a general sense, a space opera, though the phrase has never set right with me. It is also an alien romance story, though again, it is not a romance novel per-se.

Wanting to stretch my writing wings, I then wrote the humorous mystery novel, Fat Chance, about a New York private eye who is forced to help solve a missing persons case in rural new Mexico. This is a light, breezy read, something to take to the beach and hopefully make you laugh loud enough to disturb those near you.

Diving back into science fiction, I next tackled a dark, dystopian, tale of the the last city on Earth, a city on the edge of ruin, being torn apart by ancient, ethnic hatreds. Angel of the City is told from the viewpoint of a brain-damaged thief, hired to rescue a political prisoner from an authoritarian police state.

My latest novel, Neverworld: The Other Side of the Map, again changes genre. It is a middle grade/ young fantasy adult novel of a girl searching for the mother who abandoned her at birth. Her search takes her to a place of myth and legend, of pirates and vampires and ogres. The sequel is almost finished.

C.S. Kaiser is an award-winning writer. His Children’s Treasury Book, The Magical Cloud, was awarded the Silver Medal in the Dan Poynter’s Global Ebook Awards 2017. He strongly believes that childhood is the best time in life to plant a seed of hope, courage, and love. He learned early in life the importance of being the best version of ourselves to honor God’s gift of life and to make a difference in other people’s journeys.

This perspective propelled him to write 26 stories for children which later became The Magical Cloud. The book has been translated to Spanish (La Nube Mágica), French (Le Nuage Magique), Italian (La Nuvola Magica), and Portuguese (A Nuvem Mágica). Each language has its own digital and print version.

Cattle Business

About Cattle Business

Someone is stealing Sully Wheeler’s cattle. Are they trying to force him out? Or are they after him because he’s an old time gun hand hiding from his past? And who is this red-coated Constable Theason who insists on investigating? Is this just cattle rustling or something else? The local newspaper seems to be more interested in what the Mounties are doing within their ranks than following the story of thieves and lost property; why is that?
