After reading women’s fiction for many years, I finally decided to take the plunge and write my own stories. One of my books, Serendipity House, was named best indie romance for 2011 by Lynn of Red Adept Reviews. As the mother of four grown daughters, I’m familiar with the problems women face finding love, raising children, and stepping back when necessary. That’s why family dynamics play a large part in all my books. Sibling rivalry, drug abuse among teens, and problems with spouses figure prominently in all my stories. Of course, there’s always a touching love story threaded through the pages. Who doesn’t love a good love story? I can be found most days secluded in my office creating new worlds and people to populate them. When I’m not taxing my brain with plot, structure, and grammar, I like to sew, particularly quilts. When I really want to rest my brain cells, I sprawl out in front of the TV and usually fall asleep.

The Origin of Dracula

About The Origin of Dracula

Winner, Best Horror Novel, 2016 American Book Fest

“A dazzling reinvention of the Dracula legend.” — Great Novels

The past isn’t dead. It isn’t even past. — William Faulkner

Between mourning the recent loss of his wife and trying to raise his young son alone, librarian John Grant is barely surviving. And then he receives an anonymous letter promising a terrible revenge–retribution for a childhood sin John had thought long forgotten. The threat couldn’t be more cruel:

I will kill your precious son on his seventh birthday.

Now John’s only chance to save his son is to play the “game” his enemy has laid out for him. A game involving clues buried in literary fiction. Impossibly, these clues are planted in novels written centuries before John was even born.

But soon the line between fact and fiction begins to blur, and the trail of clues forces John into a confrontation with an unimaginable evil.

About Damned If You Do: Stories by Jacob Michael King

A teenage girl needs to get the hell away from home, as fast and as far and as quick as possible. She hitches a ride with a stranger, who seems alright for the first few hours. But then she notices the bodies in his truck bed…

Somewhere in the desert, there’s a man who can raise the dead. Those brave enough (and with enough cash on hand) bring bodies for resurrection. Potential customers are warned, however, that the miracle they seek is against the natural order, and that there are spiritual forces who punish those who might supplant it…

A homeless man leaves a note in a Los Angeles library, warning that the end of civilization is approaching. It tells a tale fantastical and grim, a tribute the Cthulhu Mythos of H.P. Lovecraft….

You Can’t Buy Love Like That: Growing Up Gay in the Sixties

About You Can’t Buy Love Like That: Growing Up Gay in the Sixties

A young lesbian girl grows beyond fear to fearlessness as she comes of age in the ’60s amid religious, social, and legal barriers.

Carol Anderson grows up in a fundamentalist Christian home in the 60s, a time when being gay was in opposition to all social and religious mores and against the law in most states. Fearing the rejection of her parents, she hides the truth about her love orientation, creating emotional distance from them for years, as she desperately struggles to harness her powerful attractions to women while pursuing false efforts to be with men.

The watershed point in Carol’s journey comes when she returns to graduate school and discovers the feminist movement, which emboldens her sense of personal power and the freedom to love whom she chooses. But this sense of self-possession comes too late for honesty with her father. His unexpected death before she can tell him the truth brings the full cost of Carol’s secret crashing in compelling her to come out to her mother before it is too late.

Candid and poignant, You Can’t Buy Love Like That, reveals the complex invisible dynamics that arise for gay people who are forced to hide their true selves in order to survive and celebrates the hard-won rewards of finding one’s courageous heart and achieving self-acceptance and self-love.

SEX is nothing more than a game of tennis by Bob Keaton

About SEX is nothing more than a game of tennis by Bob Keaton

SEX, DRUGS, BOOZE…and rock and roll

San Francisco emerged as an adult playground unlike any other place in the country during the 1970’s. As it did, thousands of adventurous and sexually liberated young people migrated there from around the country. This is the story of three of them.

Chris, Jon and Andy, pals from the conservative South, are among those who flock to the City by the Bay during this time, leaving everything behind to start a new life.
Their adventures—and misadventures—are packed with humor, but also poignancy, as the guys explore the city and themselves and their sexuality in their new, permissive environment.

Andy is gay and confident of his sexuality, but can he fit into the city’s more open and sometimes flamboyant gay scene? He’s a nester, searching for a life-long relationship, but is that even possible where a new sex encounter is available on almost every street corner? And with an estimated thousand new men arriving each week near the end of the decade, the supply of sex partners seems endless. Will the temptation be too great?

Jon is a latent hippie, but has he arrived too late after the Summer of Love to find his niche? Or, can he be happy growing a beard and long hair, staying stoned, and running around nude while living in a shanty at the beach? Maybe not, after his old girlfriend shows up.

Chris is in search of his sexual identity and a sense of belonging. A shocking event back east recently left him questioning who he is and what he wants out of life. In his search, he’ll initially explore all that the city and its hot singles spots and sex clubs have to offer, afterward at times not even remembering what happened last night. Ultimately what does he discover about himself?

A host of colorful supporting characters, men and women, straight and gay, many of whom live in the same apartment building, round out the cast in this adventure. Come get to know all of them in this entertaining, fun read.

Bob Keaton started his writing career working for daily newspapers. This novel, in many ways, recounts the San Francisco he discovered in the late 1970’s. It is his first, but look for a second novel in a couple of months and then a third later this year.
