The Whisper of the Coals

About The Whisper of the Coals

A shapeshifting, wish-granting demon likes to toy with its sad, desperate petitioners. It twists their words and exploits loopholes they never realized they made in their bargaining, hoping to kill them and add them to its macabre collection.

The hunter Rafal journeys to bargain with it, yet it is clear he does not desire fame, fortune or power. What does he truly want, and can he outwit the long-lived demon to get it?

Author Bio:
James Wolven loves fantasy, exploring the mysterious outdoors, traveling, and referring to himself in the third person far too often. As an unabashed nerd, fantasy and sci-fi are his favorite genres to read and write. He uses his experience exploring, wandering to new locales, and generally living by the seat of his pants to fuel his stories, as well as a martial arts history of over a decade to bring the action to life while keeping it realistic.

James is currently based in Florida in the U.S., but is prone to wandering and will likely wind up somewhere else before long. He is also a voice actor and audiobook narrator, and highly enjoys the art of getting lost in a new world, whether as a character or as the storyteller.

Author Bio:
Donald Gilleland was born in Alton, Illinois. He is married to the former Margaret (Peggy) Chaffee, from Worcester, MA. He has a bachelor of science degree in communications from Southern Illinois University and a master of science degree in public relations from Boston University. He served 30 years in the U.S. military and ten years in the defense industry. He has lived in 12 states and visited 35 countries on five continents. His travels gave him a unique perspective on America, which is the subject of four of his books. All four of them were published by Black Rose Writing, a Texas publishing firm. The first book, America: A Cultural Enigma, is about major changes to America’s culture over the last 50 years. His second book, America: Where Great Things Happen, is about wonderfully exciting things Americans do that get very little media attention because the news media focuses almost exclusively on negative news. His third book, America: An Exceptional Nation, is about how God has blessed America with attributes that set it apart from the rest of the world and make it possible to hold out hope for the 21st Century. His fourth book, America: A Conflicted Nation is a discussion of issues about which Americans feel conflicted. By conflicted, the author means having positive and negative feelings about something at the same time, and being unable to shake off the uncomfortable feeling it produces. A fifth book, Stars, Stripes, and Corporate Logos will be published in April 2018. It is a memoir of the author’s life experiences.

Not a Whisper: Book One of the Klondike Mysteries

About Not a Whisper: Book One of the Klondike Mysteries

When a retreat becomes a nightmare…

When Cherie Marshall catches her fiancé and best friend in a compromising position, she cancels her upcoming wedding and jumps at the chance to escape to quiet Klondike, Pennsylvania to care for her elderly aunt. She thought her biggest issue would be adapting to life in the middle of a National Forest, so very different from her upbringing in the deserts of Arizona.

But that was before she met State Trooper Fire Marshall Jamison “Jazz” Maddox at the scene of a mysterious fire. As they both become acquainted with the close-knit Klondike residents, things get complicated as Cherie and Jazz find themselves in the middle of a local crime wave where arson, kidnapping, embezzlement and a decades-old murder are just the tip of the iceberg.

Author Bio:
Donna B. McNicol is a retired IT professional who started writing fiction after retirement. Her preferred genre is small town mysteries with a dash of romance but she has also tackled children’s stories, fantasy and small town romance. In addition, her short stories have been included in several anthologies.

In the words of the author:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think I was destined to be a writer – in the 4th grade I took my toy typewriter and painstakingly typed out the neighborhood news, one copy at a time, and sold it to the neighbors for ten cents each. But as often happens, life intervenes and writing took a back seat to spending 30+ years in the IT industry.
A late in life lover of adventure, I learned to ride a motorcycle at age 55, traveled the US solo on my Harley-Davidson at age 58 (42 states and 27k miles), sold my home and everything I owned to become a full-time RVer. I eventually met my current husband, also widowed, a full-time RVer and Harley rider. Fate!
We traveled the US for several years before putting it all in storage and moved to Cuenca, Ecuador for two years. What at adventure! Now we are back in the US and split our time between our home in Tennessee and traveling in our 41′ fifth wheel toy hauler trailer.
I enjoy experiencing real life events and transforming them into symbolic fantasy books to look back over. I’d happily live in the cinema. I never go a day without taking pictures of greenery and the coloured sky shades, I like eating in the meantime of all this.
