My life led me to Social Work, and ultimately to this book. I was put up for adoption at birth. Three decades later I learned that Schizophrenia ran in my biological family. The news came as no real surprise because I had suffered from ADHD, Panic Disorder and Depression for most of my life. My interest in human behavior and mental illness was baked in.

As a kid I used eating as a way of treating my anxiety and by the time I entered high school I was overweight. After experiencing some ridicule in the gym class locker room, I started working out. Seeing how much exercise improved both my body and my mood, I decided to share what I learned and became a Personal Trainer. Recognizing that I had a talent for helping others and focusing on my interest in mental illness, I earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Psychology and a Graduate Degree in Social Work and became a Psychotherapist.
