Journey to the Hidden Mountain is a fantasy title aimed at 6 to 9 year old children, which was self-published on 8th July 2018.

Jude and Violet find an unusual object in their back garden only to discover that it is in fact a dragon’s egg. In the early stages of caring for their new pet they feel they have no choice but to hide him from their parents. Inevitably he grows too big to hide any longer and they must tell the truth.

Surprisingly, after the initial shock, their parents bond with the new family member and the children adjust well to their responsibilities.

One night they sense that Toast (the dragon) is agitated and climb aboard his back for their first flight. Once they land in the secret forest of dragons; their quest becomes clear and the relationship shifts to one of friendship.

A number of odd things happen during their time in the forest, giving the children clues to help them on their journey as well as new skills and tools to defeat the evil emperor. Most notably when a small fairy is discovered stowing away in Jude’s boot. Mya becomes their faithful companion throughout the remainder of their adventure.

After a troubling crossing through the portal to the hidden mountain, Mya uses her magic to disguise the children: turning them into goblins. When almost discovered by the dragon colony, the group are able to test their plan and their numbers grow as they search for truth and fight for freedom.

The group get to work freeing the enslaved dragons with the help of a magical elixir produced by the forest but before long, they are captured. The emperor causes them to doubt their friendship and loyalty to one another but using the things they have learned along the way, the children are able to escape and end the cruel reign of Emperor Tyberias using brain over brawn.

Finally, the creatures of the forest unite and celebrate their freedom, with a humbling tribute to the children which helps to cement their new bond with human-kind.

Victoria began writing for her own children after losing her long-treasured books in a recent accident at her childhood home in Berkshire. Amongst these lost books were titles dedicated to her by a well-loved children’s author.

The story has a happy ending, although the titles have since gone out of print, she was lucky enough to procure ex-library copies online and send them to the author to be re-signed. Victoria now looks forward to enjoying them once again with her family, but these events also inspired her to write something more personal.

Due to the response from friends and family she was encouraged to publish in order to make it available for them to buy, and it immediately took the number one spot in both Lulu’s children’s and teen’s categories, also climbing to the top 1000 on Amazon.

Joe Bendoski studied psychology in college and was fascinated by all the insights it provided into human behavior, only to realize most of the information never reached people, and when it did, rarely was it in a form that allowed for practical application. He started writing non-fiction but soon came to understand how few people read that genre and began the difficult transition into fiction.
