I believe Jon presumably appreciated himself and others living as honorably as possible. Jon like myself we are born with real suspicion of craziness because of our crazy like ways. But most people found goodness in our crazy like ways. This is only one way he liked to write the truth in how he felt so the reader can relate to his words and come to terms with their problem, or their happiness. Jon’s way with words had people stop listen and clap for more. Much of his energy was put into words just like when he sang and entertained. Jon had a natural ability to be verbally powerful yet he rarely took advantage. He wrote poetry, talked on the blessings from God in giving us the beauty of nature. This is what you will hear in his poetry & Prose, even in his paintings. I have heard others say his poems are a self-help, happiness, definitely Spiritual, our Hopes & Despair. that is good news because we all need to hear, see, and/or feel inspirational reflections.
It was 1969 when Jon & I married, one day while cleaning I found a shoe box full of lose pieces of paper. As I began to read I suddenly realized i was reading poetry, I edited and found a printer to put into a book form and we sold to book stores, libraries, etc. After I copyright I sent the manuscript to three or four publishers and at the time it was strange not because they turned us down all saying “for a black man his poetry & prose was not angry enough” after all, it was the 1960s & early 1970s with the black power and civil rights, we thought. No, it wasn’t being turned down, it was four big publishing companies all came back with the exact same words, he wasn’t angry enough, is this possible? Okay, I had to tell you a story about Jon’s work Jon was a storyteller and I made him smile. As for all of you at “Book Reader Magazine” next month when my book launches (Nonfiction) the mystery is solved or will it be?
