THE SHADOW WORLD of ancient Egypt by Janis Hoffman
THE SHADOW WORLD of ancient Egypt by Janis Hoffman
I don’t want to scare you away, but gotta be honest. I’m playing around with a weird world right next to this one. The old Egyptians called it the World of Shadow. If you’re a little shaky inside, best pass on by.
And if you’re a wonderfully sensitive and refined lady or gentleman best pass on by. Most of my lousy foster homes were in lousy neighborhoods. I learned a lot of wonderful words wondering the streets, and got rid of prissy morality long ago. You do what you gotta do.
Nice girls pointed and whispered as I walked by. The bad, bad, girl in the dirty clothes.

Murder in the Atchafalaya by Jim Riley
Murder in the Atchafalaya by Jim Riley
A lot of things can kill you in the Louisiana swamps, not the least of which are water moccasins, alligators, and maybe even something unworldly called a Rougarou. But as the body count rises in this jambalaya mystery, it becomes apparent that the increasing death toll is mostly due to some very bad villains and some very tough law enforcers.
Kristi is a young college graduate from West Texas recently hired and trained by the Treasury Department. While on the hunt for two of her colleagues, she manages to get herself assaulted and lost in the Atchafalaya Basin. Hawk is an ex-military combat vet now working for the United States Ranger Services. He’s asked by his old friend, the Parish Sheriff, to try to find Kristi. What he finds is not only the woman he’s looking for but also a hell of a lot of trouble. Together, Hawk and Kristi wind up in the middle of ruffians, counterfeiters, financial scalawags, and murderers. As they try to figure out what’s happening and why, while continually staying one step ahead of assassins, they begin to form a bond of respect, friendship, and perhaps even more.
Author Riley does a first-rate job of steeping the reader in the milieu of South Louisiana and Cajun mores. From murders at mudbug fests to menacing mosquito swarms to monumentally malevolent snake pits, he puts the heat and humidly on every page. He’s also adept at weaving a spider-webbed plot that is both intricate and credible. There’s action, suspense, humor, and even a dash of romance in this gumbo of a novel that promises to start a series of adventures for Kristi and Hawk.

A Lady Newspaperman’s Dilemma by Eileen Joyce Donovan
About A Lady Newspaperman’s Dilemma by Eileen Joyce Donovan
Based on actual events, this story is set in a newspaper office in Eastern Montana in 1926. A time when the American public was obsessed with newspaper horror stories of what most today would consider ordinary murders or other man-made catastrophes. Anything that could contribute to the roar of the Roaring 20’s was commercialized, became sensational news overnight, and newspaper fodder for many days thereafter. Hence, a flood that could destroy a town became a front-page event. More than anything, Alex wants to be a journalist for a major metropolitan newspaper. a field dominated by men. Harriet Quimby and Nellie Bly notwithstanding. Although she’s covered other front-page stories, including a murder of a much loved and respected rancher, this flood will affect everyone living in Sunset Valley, if they survive. When this life changing story falls into her lap, her editor threatens to assign it to a more seasoned male reporter, or maybe cover it himself. Alex becomes frustrated at being cast aside and is determined to hold on to her right to cover the breaking news. Her story will ring true to all women who have been passed over in favor of a male associate, those who didn’t give in and broke through the glass ceiling and inspire women who are just getting their feet wet in their careers.

I Must Have Wandered: An Adopted Air Force Daughter Recalls by Mary Ellen Gambutti
About I Must Have Wandered: An Adopted Air Force Daughter Recalls by Mary Ellen Gambutti
“I Must Have Wandered” portrays a girl relinquished at birth in 1951, and adopted by an Air Force officer and his wife in South Carolina. It is hybrid-creative nonfiction; a collage of lyrical prose, correspondence, vignettes, personal essay, and images. The fragmented style reflects the author’s transient military lifestyle and the intersection with the effects of adoption loss. It is a memoir of a quest for identity and coming of age in the 1960s. Adoptees, especially from the Baby Boom era, family therapists, mothers of adoption loss, adoptive parents, and those who grew up in military families–especially adopted persons–would enjoy this book. The author provides many resources and commentary on sealed record adoption laws.

Letters From 1969
About Letters From 1969
“Just know… it is the best ending to a book I have ever read and you will think so too.”
“OUTSTANDING”!!!!!!!!! Best Time travel romance I’ve read in years”
“A beautiful story which has been perfectly written. Needed a box of tissues for this one.”
Right person. Wrong Time.
An Army officer visits a mysterious antique shop and is given a hope chest containing love letters written more than fifty years prior by a nurse in Vietnam.
Mike Falco is a young Army lieutenant and 1960s aficionado. When Mike visits the new antique shop in town, the eccentric proprietors insist that he’s the rightful owner of an old dust-covered hope chest.
Reluctantly, he accepts the piece, despite the caveat that, “Once you touch what’s inside this chest, it will touch you back.” He quickly discovers that the sole contents are love letters written in 1969 by a twenty-two-year-old Army nurse serving in Vietnam.
As Mike reads the letters, he finds himself deeply moved by them. And by the young woman who’d penned them more than a half-century before. He sets out on a quest to track her down, hoping she’s still alive so he can return them. But what he discovers when he finally unlocks the Secret of the Letters From 1969 propels him on an odyssey that spans not only continents, but across Time itself. It’s a journey fraught with risk and danger. But Mike’s willing to go as far as necessary for love, even if that means finding his future in the past.
So, put on your bell-bottoms, tie-dye, and love beads because Letters From 1969 will take you back to the Age of Aquarius, to the music, the culture, and the events that embodied that tumultuous time. And to all the joy—and heartache—that shaped both a nation and a generation.

The Last Candle
About The Last Candle
Almost 250 years ago, people lit their homes with candles made from the remains of the dead, but we don’t need candles anymore, we have electric lights, and motorized window blinds and big screen TVs, today we only use candles to set the mood, to be romantic, but what if the next candle you lit was made from human remains, and when it was burned, the spirit of the person was released, and this wasn’t the spirit of a good person; this was the spirit of a monster, and breathing it in allowed the monster into your soul?

The Detourist: How to Get Out of Your Own Way, Find Purpose in Unexpected Places, and Traverse the Path to Effortless Authenticity
About The Detourist: How to Get Out of Your Own Way, Find Purpose in Unexpected Places, and Traverse the Path to Effortless Authenticity
Everything always works out.
That is the mantra of The Detourist. As life twists and turns, taking detours, the Detourist can see that this is God’s most direct route. It is our humanness, our egos, that insist we can see the entire picture when we are merely focused on a small smudge. God sees the big picture. God sees the danger up ahead, the beauty of the backroads, the fun you will have kicking up country dust. He knows where He has hidden all the treasure.
We are going to zoom out and take a look at the world through the eyes of God. We are going to gaze upon the entire kaleidoscope of reality. We are going to retreat from our ideas of ourselves and our existence. We are going to explore concepts on the brink of science and spirituality. We will wind our way through topics from quantum physics, the law of attraction, consciousness, belief, creation energy, and willpower. We will talk about Jesus Christ. We will get to see how all of these things are connected. We are going to become aware of the power of our thoughts. With the best of intentions, we will realize what it means to be created in the image of God.

In recent months, Matthew has expanded his family to include a bolt of female lightning, a pit bull, two cats, and if he can get his way, a duck.
Mature and Complete: How God Uses Trials, Brokenness, and Wilderness Times for Our Good
About Mature and Complete: How God Uses Trials, Brokenness, and Wilderness Times for Our Good
Do you feel defeated in trying to persevere through your trials and brokenness? Has the weight of your burdens made you feel that even taking the next step is hopeless? Does the silence in the wilderness rob you of your joy and make you wonder where the Lord is in it all? We all want to become mature and complete, not lacking in anything, but the reality is that life is hard, and we face trials of many kinds which can make us weary and tempt us to lose heart.
This book will take you on a journey to discover how God, in His sovereignty and grace, uses these difficult times in our lives to develop in us perseverance resulting in the character qualities that He desires for us to possess in increasing measure. Much of our growth depends on the condition of our hearts; as we begin to believe what God says about us and embrace our identity in Christ, as we trust Him and seek Him above all else, and as we learn to release our burdens to Him, He begins to transform us into the men and women He created us to be.
We were not meant to be broken and hopeless but mature and complete.
This book is divided into five chapters, and along with the main teaching in a story-telling format, each chapter contains a real-life story from someone who describes their own journey of perseverance through a difficult time or situation and who explains what God did in and through them during those trials. You will also have an opportunity at the end of each chapter for personal application through an optional short workbook section designed for you to further process the content through journaling, followed by a list of questions for additional personal reflection or small group discussion.

Womb Raiders
About Womb Raiders
Fetal abduction, or womb raiding, is defined as the kidnapping of an unborn child by forcing a pregnant mother to comply with an early delivery, sometimes using forceps or sometimes reaching into the womb and then taking the fetus directly from the mother. If the mother does not survive, then it is a case of Murder-Abduction. With fetal abduction without murder, it is considered a child kidnapping and violates the law and subject to federal penalties. This book explores these cases and looks at the people who commit these heinous crimes.

Morris
About Morris
Morris is a novel that takes you on a journey through several generations of a remarkable and resilient family following them over more than 60 years, chronicling how they dealt with growing-up in the face of loss, adversity and challenges, as well as with triumph. The result of editing together numerous personal journals, Morris documents their individual experiences of life, love and relationships as they struggled to gain acceptance, fight discrimination and overcome the attitudes and prejudices of their times with regard to race, gender, ethnicity, sexual preference and politics, as told from a first person perspective.
Beginning in the summer of 1965, this starts as a school assignment made to a then teenaged Jessie Peterson as he made a point of constantly complaining to everyone about how boring and backward life is in his sleepy, small town on the Florida panhandle. Jessie dreams of when he would be able to get away and see the world, but circumstance and the reality of his family’s needs conspire against those dreams and set up obstacles, as he endures to build his own life and tries to find happiness. He then encourages his daughter as the next generation to begin chronicling her own life and the issues that she faces, as she then passed it on to her children when they came of age to do the same, even as we continue to follow Jessie, his siblings, their families and extended families from their teens into adulthood, to being parents and eventually grandparents.
When at one point an adult Jessie was asked who he had been writing his journal to, he replied “If not to myself, I would be writing to Morris”. Hence the title. A non-speaking character, Morris is part of everyone’s lives and stories, contributing to the overall context and continuity without writing or uttering a single word. But he is as much a member of this family as anyone else. He’s always there silently, as part of the thread that helps weave the fabric of all their lives and adventures together.
