Deciding to diversify from writing crime thrillers to shape-shifter thrillers, I asked myself questions about how the werewolves in my books would differ from the stereotypical versions who helplessly transformed during the full moon.

What if werewolves had the power to shape-shift at will and were in complete control of when they would shape-shift and for how long?
What if they could choose to partially transform, like a hand or their face, while the rest of their body remained in human form?
What if some werewolves manifested additional animal attributes while maintaining their wolf form?
What if werewolves were a hybrid species, crossed between human and wolf?
What if werewolves were born rather than transformed by a curse? And if so, when and how would they begin to manifest werewolf traits?
What if silver didn’t kill werewolves? What would?

By asking myself those questions, ideas percolated. Character traits gelled and my version of werewolves took shape in the Full Moon trilogy.

As for my crime thriller novels, I strive for “plausible realism” and gain critical details from “police ride-along” experiences as well as educating myself by attending and graduating from the West Jordan Citizen’s Police Academy and receiving training as a CERT member (Community Emergency Response Team). I’m a West Jordan Police Department VIPS (Volunteer In Police Service).

Authors Note: I was asked recently why I decided to write an espionage story when there are already lots to choose from in the genre. My answer is that there are many good books out there, but a lot of them never quite reach the authenticity that I am looking for when I am reading. Either the main character is too over-the-top, too superhuman, unflappable, or somehow indestructible.

I wanted to create a character(s) who is realistic that everyone can relate to that has bad traits or hangups, and most of all, a person who makes mistakes. I hope that readers find Chris Morehouse, the main character in my five books, as a typical guy who has issues but is working his way up the ladder from the bottom, and is not a natural-born Hollywood hero.
