‘Shine a Light’ literally shines a light on real life experiences, some of which are personal to me. This collection of poems shows just how vulnerable we can be when nature and fate unexpectedly throws things our way – yes, life can sometimes be cruel!

In certain situations, we have little or no control over what can happen to us but sometimes, we can be lucky too.

Although none of us can escape fate, there are however certain things we can do to lessen the blow.

My message is simple. We need to take responsibility for our actions and work together to eradicate the greed, selfishness and ignorance that can obstruct and hinder the environment and the world in which we live.

The poems contained in this book will leave you, the reader, with mixed emotions. Some will make you laugh, some may make you sad and others will perhaps strike a chord within you and evoke happy memories of your own.

Shine a Light. Like a huge lighthouse towering over murky rough seas in vast, deep dark waters and rescue teams on the way. Would this be enough to bring you to safety? Sean Paquet is an author, investigative journalist, and freelance writer who lives and works as an American Expatriate in the Philippines. He retired from active duty military service in 2013 after 24 years. He then was a private defense contractor in the Middle East until 2018. Sean is from a small town called Carp Lake in the Northern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. He grew up loving to read, write poetry, and had enough promise as an artist to consider it full-time until he decided to join the military. Rev. John Eugene Miller is an Ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene. John has been in full time Christian ministry for 23 years and has a diversity ministry experience. John has pastored churches in Colorado, Florida, West Virginia and Hawaii.
John attended Olivet Nazarene University where he studied Marketing and Psychology until transferring to Nazarene Bible College where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Biblical Studies. Now he is working towards his Master!s Degree at Point Loma Nazarene University.
John has opened and directed two Life Skills Learning Centers, that teach the Learning to live, Learning to love curriculum, founded by Dr. Paul Hegstrum. John produced and delivered a weekly radio broadcast in West Virginia, that brought messages of hope, on a country music station called K96.5. John currently writes and delivers weekly messages of hope, encouragement and victory on a local cable network on the Island of Oahu Hawaii, called Nazkine TV.
John has traveled extensively throughout the world on mission trips for the Church of the Nazarene. He has journeyed to Djibouti Africa, Ethiopia Africa, Lima Peru twice, Nicaragua twice, Guatemala twice, Honduras, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Russia, and Belize. He gained experience working with and speaking to other cultures on these trips.
John has been married 27 years to his wife, Carla, they have two sons and and a daughter. Peter their middle son has global developmental delays and receives all his food through a feeding tube in his stomach.
