Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been writing all my life, but in the past couple of years, I have decided to follow my dream and FINALLY make a career out of writing YA novels. My first novel, ARCANA BOOK ONE: RISE OF THE MOON, was published in December of 2019, and the sequel, ARCANA BOOK TWO: RUSH TO JUDGEMENT is currently slated for launch in the Fall of 2021. In addition to being a novelist, I am also a high school English, Speech, and Debate teacher. I have a wide variety of interests, but I will always be a sucker for anything paranormal/supernatural.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
RISE OF THE MOON actually started out as a slightly different story, but it took on its own life and evolved into the first book of what I expect will be a 4-book series. Originally, the idea was that a high school junior would accidentally “activate” a magical tarot card while using it as a prop in a school play. While this does still happen in the book, the world and conflict around this event grew into a much larger story involving a cabal of magical families who each own one of these cards and pass them down through the generations.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure if this is particularly unusual, but I do tend to base my characters on former students of mine. I always ask their permission first, and it’s pretty common for me to reach out to them with questions like, “what would you order at Starbucks?” and “what would you do in this situation?”

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The book that started me on my lifelong love of paranormal fiction was JANE-EMILY by Patricia Clapp, which I first read when I was about 10. I loved the psychological suspense she created…her stories didn’t depend on “gotcha” moments or gore. I’ve tried to keep true to that in spirit, while incorporating more modern elements of diversity and cultural change. I also deeply love Piers Anthony, Elizabeth Peters, Rick Riordan, Kelley Armstrong, and Hailey Edwards.

What are you working on now?
RUSH TO JUDGEMENT, the sequel to RISE, is currently in its second edit (I made the first pass, and my editing team is looking at it now), and I’ll be sending it out to beta readers soon. I’m also interested in incorporating a sensitivity reader, since I have diverse characters playing major roles in the remainder of the series.

I may also re-launch RISE at the end of the summer with a new and updated cover. My graphic artist is hard at work.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
RISE OF THE MOON can be purchased in paperback and Kindle form on Amazon, and I can be reached on my website, www.jbcaine.com. I am experimenting with different types of blogs, so I’m always looking for interaction and feedback.
You can also find me on Facebook @realjbcaine, and Instagram @authorjbcaine.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
READ READ READ, especially in the genre in which you’d like to write. You have to know what’s out there in order to do it well. Learn the right voice, conventions, and tropes so you can create a story that will appeal to your audience.
I’d also say that it’s really important to find yourself a grammar-crazy friend if grammar and conventions aren’t your strong suit. Again, not the most exciting advice, but there’s no substitute for this basic writing tool.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
FINISH THE BOOK. Someone said to me a couple of years ago, “lots of people have good ideas. A writer is someone who finishes the book.” That sounds harsh, but it was a real wake-up call for me.

What are you reading now?
As do most authors, I have a sizable to-be-read pile, but I’m currently working on the mystery/thriller SPLINTERED by Kelly Miller.

What’s next for you as a writer?
The new-cover re-launch of RISE OF THE MOON later this summer, then the launch of RUSH TO JUDGEMENT this fall. I’m starting to outline ARCANA BOOK THREE: STRENGTH OF WILL in July, and plan to write the bulk of it during National Novel Writing Month in November.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oooh, that’s a tough one. Can I just bring my Kindle??

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a Tucson, Arizona-based author of science fiction and horror. As of 2021, I’ve published one novel and one short story collection. My stories have been featured in numerous books, magazines, and podcasts. Prior to publishing my first novel, I fronted numerous bands and held a career in visual art. My writing, informed by an interest in a variety of emerging technologies and mediums, often pushes the boundaries of traditional written narratives while remaining cohesive and accessible. My influences include literary giants like Kurt Vonnegut, Margaret Atwood, and Kazuo Ishiguro, genre-specific authors like William Gibson, as well as manga author Junji Ito and game designer Yoko Taro.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Dead Heart, Living Vein is a collection of dark science fiction stories. After publishing my first novel, Caligatha, readers told me that they wanted to spend more time in that universe, that there seemed to be so many more stories waiting to be told. My goal was to create a series of short stories that took place in that universe but didn’t require reading the novel. And while expanding on the lore of Caligatha, these stories aren’t designed to explain anything. Rather, they simmer with as much mystery, and beg more questions. They’re also a lot darker and more horror-oriented.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I listen to instrumental music, often videogame soundtracks, which I find to be some of the most beautiful compositions ever made, especially anything from Nobuo Umetsu. Perhaps the strangest thing is that I tend to write a lot of fragments on my phone, sometimes whole chapters.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Kurt Vonnegut, Margaret Atwood, Kazuo Ishiguro, William Gibson, Sylvia Plath, Jeff Vandermeer, Octavia E. Butler. I’m also heavily influenced by narratives that exist outside of typical literature, such as manga author Junji Ito and game designer Yoko Taro.

What are you working on now?
I have about five novels that range from half-complete to just a page of ideas and plot points. I find it hard to sit down and work on one thing from beginning to end. Usually, I’ll hit a wall in the narrative, and rather than force it, I focus on something else. But the two novels that will be first out of queue include a horror novel set in an abandoned prison, and a cyberpunk novel that I like to call Neuromancer-meets-Trainspotting.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ll let you know when I figure it out. My strategy so far has been to make my work as accessible to everyone as possible, usually giving out thousands of copies or posting short stories somewhere free to read, like Reddit.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t worry about not knowing enough to write. This was a big stumbling block for me for many years, especially when writing science fiction. I came to realize that most readers don’t want technical explanations for all of your inventions. And guess what? Your characters probably don’t know how they work, either. They just know what they do, and what they do is what’s most important.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
This isn’t original advice, but it’s the best advice: write. Just write. If it’s garbage the first time, that’s okay: that’s why you edit. No one’s first draft is anything like their completed manuscript.

What are you reading now?
Clara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro, and the complete works of Junji Ito.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing. Hopefully better and faster.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d like it to be a surprise, actually. If I’m going to be stranded from civilization, might as well have something unexpected.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an IT specialist, Businessman, and also an author. I have published 3 books so far. My catalogue sketches across many sectors, including business, romance, adventure and mental health. All my writing is usually inspired by my experiences, observations and also by some principles that I have been taught. My debut book is a romance and obsession book titled ‘To My Crush’, then my second book is an adventure and mystery fiction titled, ‘wonders will never end’. then my third book is a business and financial literacy book titled ‘Business Acumen’.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is a business and financial literacy book titled ‘Business Acumen’. This book was inspired by my own experiences in the business field and also the need to help anyone who wants to start a business that will yield success. this book guides the reader through writing a business plan, executing business strategies, presenting a business idea, starting a business, and appealing to lenders for financial assistance. It also instills critical thinking, problem-solving, data analysis, and organizational skills principles in the reader’s mind.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes. I usually voice record my ideas and relisten to them whilst I’m writing. it helps me fall in line with my initial idea. I also eat a lot during the course of writing. It helps me think lucidly. A happy stomach is equal to a happy brain!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Growing up I used to read Enid Blyton’s books. my favorite was ‘Secret Seven’. I always love the mystery contained in the books and how it all unfolded. ‘Secret Seven’ definitely inspired my second book ‘Wonders Will Never End’. I wrote a mystery that unraveled as unexpected as how ‘Secret Seven’ did.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a book titled, ‘I Saw The Devil’. This book is a mental health and self-help guide. It tackles issues like depression, anxiety, loneliness, suicidal thoughts, self-hate, and the art of self-love. In this book, I explore how mental health and social issues are like a journey through hell and I also define the devil as anything that stands in your road to progress.
I wrote this book with hopes that it will help someone to realize that we are bigger than the picture the world paints us to be. Regardless of what problems we face, we come out strong because we embody greatness.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I usually promote my books on my social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) and also on Amazon. But I recently put my books on my official website because I needed readers to be able to read my books offline if they don’t have internet.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors would be: Keep writing! Your books are your legacy. One day the offsprings of your offsprings will want to know your perspective and advice on different sectors of life, and if you are not there to talk, your books will do the talking for you.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You only fail when you stop trying.

What are you reading now?
I’ve been writing a lot these days, I have not read too many books in a while. but the last book I read is a small book called ‘ Minute Motivations’. It was very uplifting.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will be releasing more books. So I would like to write more books and share my perspective and ideas with the world. I believe we all learn from each other. I also partnered with Amazon for a short series book that I wrote in 2017 and shelved.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
-My debut book ‘To My Crush’ will be my first option because, whenever I read that book I feel like I am floating somewhere out of this world.
-Then ‘Secret Seven’ by Enid Blyton. It would help me figure out ways to get help
-Then my other book ‘I Saw The Devil’. This book will uplift and keep me calm.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Instead of a silver spoon in my mouth, I was born with a book in my hands! Books and writing have been my passion since I was a young child. I have written five books, but only published three so far.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled: More Than Just Finn: Just Finn Book Two. It is the second book in the series. I am working on the 3rd! It is a work of love as it was inspired by my brother that was diagnosed with Asperger’s in his mid-40s.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Is it unusual to write with a pen and paper? I love my MacBook but there is nothing like the feel of paper beneath my hand as I pour words out onto clean, crispy white pages. I also drink a lot of water when I am writing!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My influences have been so many… Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Frank McCourt, Junot Diaz, Ernest Hemingway, William Shakespeare, Jeanette Walls, Ken Follett and many more!

What are you working on now?
Just Finn’s Book Three… The title is a surprise!
And I am also working on a compilation of poetry I have written over the years.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love Goodreads. It is a great forum for authors and readers. I am both, so it is a bit of paradise over there for me.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write! There is no such thing as writer’s block. Get the words out there! On paper or your laptop or record yourself narrating. Do not give up… keep writing!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep the eggs separate from the rest of the groceries. DO NOT let anyone bag the eggs for you!

What are you reading now?
A novel by a new author called 34 Below that has yet to be published. It is so good!

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing! Lots of podcasts and narrating my novels for audiobooks.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
34 Below, Brother’s Karamazov, Where the Wind Blows, and a Bible

Johnny Ricketts Jr

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Johnny Ricketts Jr. I live in Texas with my lovely wife Angela and our two beautiful children. We are a writer/illustrator power couple! ;D I have written two books in the Johnny Pawprints series (with a third and fourth on the way!).

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Our latest book is Johnny Pawprints and the Case of the Missing Colors. We wanted to showcase colorful, cute characters that kids would gravitate to. More importantly, we want stories that can be enjoyed by parents as well as their children. I think a child has much more fun when their parent enjoys reading along with them. The interaction with my kids is what ignited my passion for writing children’s stories.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can only write at night. All of my best ideas happen after 9 pm. But I assure you, I am not an owl.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Chester Gould, Arthur Conan Doyle, Poe, Christie. In the kids genre williambee, Dr. Seuss, and Roald Dahl.

What are you working on now?
We are currently wrapping up book 3 and 4 of Johnny Pawprints first series and are hard at work on series 2. I am also in the early stages of writing my first YA novel.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
We promote through Amazon now, but have decided to promote more time and effort into finding other promotion sources.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Just write wherever and whenever you can. I have so many amazing ideas float into the heavens throughout the day because I don’t take the time to jot them down.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never be too self-reliant. Ask for help.

What are you reading now?
A Wrinkle in Time.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue to improve. Look for constructive criticism.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Detective, The Big Sleep

Gary Clifton

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a freelance writer and small business owner. I write a lot in the small business marketing niche, because I failed miserably when I first started in business. My first business was IT support, and it failed within nine months. I then decided to learn everything I could about marketing a small business.

Today I write marketing guides to share what I learned with other small business owners and services professionals. I’m currently putting all this info together in the “Market Your Services” series on Amazon.

I also contribute to the blog BizMarketingHelp.Blogspot.com where we help service professionals and owners of service-based businesses to grow their businesses fast, free up more time, and multiply their profits.

We do this by publishing easy-to-understand marketing guides that show you how to exponentially grow your business and free up more time through multiplying your referrals, endorsements and repeat business.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The “Market Your Services” series that I’m in the process of completing has 4 titles:
How to Convert Referrals Into Buyers And Fans of Your Business
How to Get More Referrals For your Service Based Business
How To Automate The Referral Engine For Your Service based Business
How To Get All The Customers You’ll Ever Need In Your Service-Based Business.
With this series my aim is to give you pretty much all the information you can ever need in this information age to effectively market your services without a lot of hard work, without spending a fortune.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My big strength as a writer is that I read a lot, I have a very good memory and I’m good at problem solving. So I end up seeing through a lot of clutter, which helps a lot when you want to explain stuff to people.

Writing wise, I not into a lot of organization, structuring, and outlining. Most of this stuff I do in my head, over time. But at the end I usually come up with a good structure to explain what I want to teach to make it easy to understand.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read a lot of pop fiction growing up. On of my all time favorite authors was Harold Robbins. But I have also greatly admired and been influenced by the work of Alistair Maclean, Robert Ludlum, Danielle Steele and a host of others.

What are you working on now?
Currently I’m focusing on completing the market your services series

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I haven’t done a lot of book promotions this way, preferring to do direct marketing. I have no favorites yet.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Put out a lot of content, because this keeps your mind in constant practice. One of the keys to mastery at anything you do is unending practice.

What are you reading now?
Mastery, The Keys To Success and Long-term Fulfillment by George Leonard. It’s an old book but well worth your time.

Justin Alcala

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Justin Alcala, an author from Chicago, Illinois. I’m the creator of three urban fantasy novels, Consumed (BLK Dog Publishing) The Devil in the Wide City (Solstice Publishing) and Dim Fairytales (AllThingsThatMatterPress). I also have twenty short stories published in anthologies and magazines, including It Dances Now, The Lantern Quietly Screams and The Offering. Besides being a shamelessly nerdy tabletop role player, I am also an avid blogger. My latest manuscripts focus on the playfully bizarre and dry humored, with mild influences from Christopher Moore and Andrew Smith.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
When I first started writing “A Dead End Job” in 2019, it was nothing more than an agglomeration of daydreams. The idea of a hard-boiled hitman working for a comical Grim Reaper burrowed a hole in my brain, so I put it down on paper and sent it out. The amazing Parliament House Press contracted the book (No, I’m legally obligated to say that — Why would think that?) and we hit the ground running with edits. However, life delivered a shot to the kisser during the book-butchering phase. I moved across the country, had my second child and then the pandemic hit. I discovered a bovarism in myself, and the world around me, that I didn’t like. I would always still be the dick-joke toting writer, but some very serious allegories weaved themselves into the story while I edited. I want to acknowledge those who helped me recognize these issues.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
These days, I sneak down the stairs in the morning, wave hi to our resident ghost, let out the werewolf in the backyard, then sit in silence in front of a computer. There’s mumbling, funny sound effects, and theme music constantly playing low (as to not wake the little banshees), that filter out all of the noise that can steal most writers’ concentration.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Andrew Smith, Christopher Moore, Mary Shelley, Anne Rice, Jim Butcher, Stephen King, Margaret Eleanor Atwood, Rob Schrab

What are you working on now?
There’s three projects boiling on the kettle. The first is a middle grade horror novel called “THE LAST STOP.” It’s about a girl who takes for granted all that’s going right for her in her strange new town of Weepingbridge, and learns the hard lessons of being caught up in her own head-noise.
The second is “THE TAMING OF THE CTHULHU” which is what happens when William Shakespeare goes off on early adventures (before he was ever famous) to the Spanish Main with some unlikely sea dogs in order to hunt down treasure said to be left by natives for…The Old One.
Finally, I’m working with some other well known comic writers and artists for an upcoming graphic novel. It’s bizarre. It’s cerebral. It’s very, very entertaining. I can’t give titles, etc. right now due to legal and marketing strategies, but stay tuned!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It’s not one thing. It’s staying active and relevant. You are only as good as what you do today. If you haven’t done one thing to reach your readers today on any social media sites, you’re behind. Posts, blogs and art daily are important to keeping your name out there. Many old school authors have refused to do this and with them goes their fading name.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I had a young writer connect with me on advise. I love giving advise so people can skip all of the mistakes I might have made. When I checked in with this fella’ though, I learned that he thought he could rewrite the rules. He didn’t use the proposal formats that most publishers and agents want. He wouldn’t listen to the proofreader who received his work. Essentially, I think his idea of what being a writer should be didn’t fit what it was and so he tried to reinvent the wheel. I applause his boldness, and if his aspiration was to change the way we do things in the publishing world, mad props. I think his goal though was to get his book published. If you really care about your work, learn what it takes to get that first one out there. From there, you can be a gunslinger, but first learn what it takes to be a writer before you change its world. You must be ordinary before you can be extraordinary.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Margaret Atwood “There will be interruptions.”

What are you reading now?
I have jumped into a new way of life- supporting less than mainstream authors. Do I occasionally hit a wall with something I don’t like? Of course, but I do that with mainstream books too. These days I read a lot of books from smaller, Indy publishers like BLKDOG Press, THOR Books, etc. Let me tell you, it’s a shame that there’s so many great authors who will never be heard. I’d invite readers to take a chance on them.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m planning my trip to the cosmos. Is there life on Mars?

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A book on how to make boats. Another on how to get off a desert island. The third and fourth books would be very light and airy so that I can use them as floatation devices.

L.S. Pullen

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, I’m L.S.Pullen, aka Leila. I’m an indie author, born and raised in North London, but now reside in Peterborough, England. It’s true what they say you can take the girl out of London, but you can’t take London out of the girl.

I’ve written six books and currently have four published. Contemporary Romance and World War II Historical Romance.

When I’m not writing or drowning in edits, you’ll find me taking care of my adopted guinea pig Maurice or walking our Kelpie Cross Luna whilst squirrel spotting.

I am passionate about everything books and have a reading list I’ll likely never finish. The struggle is real.

I love photography and art. And in true English cliche fashion, I adore having afternoon tea.

No longer working the corporate life in the city, I spend my time writing full time and running a small Etsy shop Wisteria Handmade Crafts. And I am managing Indie Author’s Book Services, offering multiple services to other aspiring and aspiring self-publishing authors.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Burning Embers is my most recently published novel, a contemporary romance set in England. I was inspired to write this book as Olly was a character who made cameo appearances in my first two novels, and his character kept speaking to me and hence Burning Embers, which will now be a trilogy.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if I would call it unusual, but I like to have a series on Netflix on in the background while writing. I can only listen to music for re-writes and edits though the music plays a significant role in my writing process.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many, but the author who inspired me to follow my lifelong dream to write and publish finally is Tarryn Fisher after reading The Opportunist. Mud Vein is another one of her books that hit me hard.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on re-writes for Midnight Embers, which is the second book in the standalone trilogy, and Forever Embers, the third book. I have a very ambitious release plan this year, so time will tell.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It was for a time, Instagram, but algorithms have made it nearly impossible to be seen like most social media platforms. Honestly, the one I gain the most interactive responses from is TikTok, which is fantastic for connecting with readers and authors alike.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, learn as much about the craft as you can, build genuine relationships with other authors and readers, but mainly do not give up. It isn’t easy, but you can sit back and say you did it at the end of the day.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Be patient with yourself, self-growth is tender; it’s hold ground. There’s no greater investment.” — Stephen Covey.

What are you reading now?
The Secrets of the Summer by Danielle Keil. I am an avid supporter of fellow independently published authors.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To hit my publishing goal for year, and eventually attend a book signing, that would be amazing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay. Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher. Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover & LoTR Trilogy (counts as one right)

I am Alex, a new 21-year-old author from Romania. I currently have one published book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is named “Philosophical Essays from Quarantine”. It was inspired by the works of the following philosophers: Marcus Aurelius, Bertrand Russell, Descartes, Francois de la Rochefoucauld and Michel de Montaigne.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I seem to be the most inspired early in the morning or late at night, so I try to schedule my writing accordingly. I never write without music, considering it is so useful in setting up the atmosphere and the right mindset.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
David Hume, Boethius, Aristotle and Ayn Rand to name just a few, but Marcus Aurelius is definitely my top pick.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a new book called “Affections”. It is going to be an odd mix of philosophy and romance.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am trying to network with as many people as possible, using Amazon and websites such as this one. I am way more interested in reader feedback than profit, so I share my book for free.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I do not think that I am qualified to give advice for new authors, considering I am one.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice for me has got to be to turn every negative experience into a lesson, no matter how hard it may seem at first.

What are you reading now?
Immanuel Kant’s Philosophy of Education.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My next goal as a writer is to publish my upcoming book “Affections”, hopefully by the end of the year if time allows.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Marcus Aurelius – Meditations
Ayn Rand – The Virtue of Selfishness
Bertrand Russell – The Conquest of Happiness

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am the author of maany childrens books including but not limited to:
Mouse’s Houses
The Hangry Little Monster
Slimed!

The Woes of a Ginger Named Red Series:
Book 1: The Big Move
Book 2: Treasures in the Attic
Book 3: New Home Holidays

Knowledge is Control–How to Be Safe Anytime and Everywhere.
A Safety Guide for Kids and Teens

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Woes of a Ginger Named Red–Book 3: New Home Holidays.

The Woes of a Ginger named Red Series is inspired by many challenges I had to personally overcome as a child. Of course, the book is a fiction so it is filled with some reality and some fictional flair, as well! Being an epileptic child is difficult and I realized there are not enough epileptic protagonists in the Middle Grade realm of fiction! Knowing a lot about the struggles from personal experience, I created Ginger for all those children who need to know other kids share their struggles.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t write unless I have a flow of ideas. I can’t just write an idea and lfow later. It has to come pouring out all at once before I start to write.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Judy Blume, Dr. Suess, Laura Numeroff, Virginia Burton, & Beverly Cleary have all caused memorable influence in my book tastes and writing styles.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on illustrating a picture book called Farty Arty.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still trying to find the magical solution to best marketing practices.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Don’t doubt yourself. Write from your heart. If people in the book industry don’t like it, get it out there on your own. They are just gatekeepers and not the actual readers. They filter submissions based on their own small opinion and do not reflect the opinion of the actual entire society of real readers.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Only you can control you and your future endeavors.

What’s next for you as a writer?
THe Woes of a Ginger Named Red–Book 4: The Great Summer Kick-off

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’m not a fan of beaches, flying, or travel, so the odds of me being stranded on an island are way too slip to have a plan.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I think I was born with a book in my hands–ALWAYS loved reading, and didn’t get into writing until I was in my twenties. I love books, animals, cooking/baking, 70’s horror movies, and writing. I’ve written two books so far; one published, and another shortly on the way; a short poetry collection.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“The Shadow I Remember; The Father I Forgot” is a personal memoir. I had never connected with my Dad, and I like to think of this book as a tribute to his memory.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Trying not to spill my tea on the keyboard, lol….

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh my, too many to name!!! There are a great deal of influential writers and books…as far as aiding the creative process, a couple off the top of my head are “Be the Gateway” by Dan Blank, and “Writing Down the Bones” by Natalie Goldberg, two books I greatly recommend.

What are you working on now?
A book on the trials and tribulations of marriage, lol. Not sure if it’s going to be another memoir, but it’s definitely going to be packed with lots of interesting viewpoints, situations, outcomes, etc. I think it might be a pretty long book when I’ve finished; so far I’ve completed about 45 pages….and that’s just the good stuff, lol.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still branching out in the promotion business, but so far I have had very good responses from both Amazon and Google Play Books. And writers, don’t be afraid to toot your own horn!! This is an absolute must if you want attention to your work.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
NEVER GIVE UP!!!!! Every writer on the face of the Earth has gone through doubt, depression, frustration, etc. over their own writing from time to time. In the end, if you give up, the world will never discover that great book inside you.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t write to please everyone–# 1, it can’t be done, and #2, you will lose so much of yourself that way. If you believe in yourself and what you’re writing, others will, too.

What are you reading now?
In-between books at the moment, actually, but the last one I read was “Love, Loss and What We Ate” by Padma Lakshmi.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing!!! Connecting with readers and other writers; advertising my books; signing up with more great sites like “Awesome Gang”!!!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Very tough question!! It would be very hard to choose only 4…

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a scientist-turned-pastor who is passionate about seeing people get healed. This is my first published book, although over the years I’ve written many unpublished articles and manuals for my students.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Biblical Secrets to Heal Your Body & Soul. Discover How Ancient Wisdom & the Newest Research Can Help You Feel Better Fast.

When I was in my mid-forties I had a wasting disease that the doctors could not treat, and I almost died. They diagnosed me with one disease after another and put me on all these prescription drugs. Nothing worked. Within a few short months I weighed under a hundred pounds, my hair fell out in clumps, my flesh hung, and I went into early menopause.

I kept doing my home remedies to treat the symptoms, but dove into the Bible for better answers. That’s when God showed me through the pages in the Bible how to combine the data-supported natural remedies with the ancient wisdom & “technology” in the Bible. One by one, each of my diseases healed, and now in my sixties, I feel better and have more energy and vitality than when I was in my twenties.

This is so good that I want to share it with everyone who needs healing!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to stay at a convent on the other side of the state to do the bulk of my writing. Spotty Internet, a big, beautiful forest to wander in while pondering my next section to write, inspiring company when I take writing breaks by chatting with the nuns.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
John G. Lake and Smith Wigglesworth have left behind a lot of writings and I really get inspired by them. Andrew Murray’s The Power of the Blood of Christ impacted me greatly. And I love reading biographies on the old saints like St. Teresa of Avila and St. Patrick.

What are you working on now?
I’ve started the next book in my series, Christian Biohacking: The Best of Science & the Bible. I haven’t given this book a specific a title yet, but it’s about taking the latest research on which diet and exercise strategies REALLY work (not hype) and combining them with the ancient wisdom from the Bible for faster, lasting results. It’s worked for me so far and I’m ready to share it.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Go to: TheHighPraise.com. There are links to the paperback, Kindle, MP3 guided activations, the free Companion Workbook, and the Christian Biohacking Facebook group where you can keep up on all the latest teachings & prayer activations.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Two keys:
1. If you’re not disciplined enough to get up early and write the first couple hours of most every day, GET AWAY for whatever chunk of days you can, and don’t look at your phone except the hour or two you designate each day. The bulk of my last book was written in one two-week stay at a convent.
2. When you’re stuck, just sit down and say, “I’m only going to write for 20 minutes. If I don’t like it, I’ll just delete it. What’s 20 minutes?” I can almost guarantee that you’ll get inspired and focused and will keep writing when that timer goes off!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There is no such thing as good writing, only good re-writing.” (attributed to Robert Graves)

What are you reading now?
Quantum Glory: The Science of Heaven Invading Earth by Phil Mason

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to keep going with this series–I’ve got at least four more. And I love creating materials to really help the reader apply what I teach in the books. Information in the head is potential change. But information applied is transformation.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, of course, but in the original Hebrew and Greek. And then as many of the God’s Generals series by Roberts Liardon as I can carry!

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write historical romance and historical fiction. My 9th book, “Sarah’s Choice,” will release on August 3rd, my 10th book, “Lumberjacks & Ladies,” is with the publisher and set to release on Feb 1st, and my 11th book, “Maggie’s Strength,” is with my critique partners getting the red-pen treatment. I’m currently in the historical research phase for my 12th book, “Abigail’s Peace.”

I live on a hobby farm in Northern Michigan with my husband of *mumble* years. We raise sheep, chickens, and keep a few barn cats along with Murphy the spoiled rotten dog.

When not writing or researching, I’m busy at one of my four spinning wheels creating yarn from my sheep’s wool. I give away a handspun, handknit shawl with every book release to one of my newsletter subscribers. https://www.subscribepage.com/PeggThomas

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Sarah’s Choice,” book 1 in my Colonial America series “Forts of Refuge,” is a story that I woke up with. That’s never happened before – or since – but I knew who Sarah was and what happened to her all in one piece. I still had to work out the setting and details, but it was by far the easiest book I’ve ever written.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know that it’s that unusual, but I research the history of my book’s setting, and then weave my story through the actual historical events, even using some actual historical figures.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
James Herriot’s books were some of my favorites since I was a teenager. I love how he brought his characters to life, even his secondary characters. Francine Rivers’ “Redeeming Love” showed me how to unleash the power of emotions in writing. There are many others, of course. I can learn what works – and sometimes what doesn’t – with each book I read.

What are you working on now?
I’m researching book 3 in my “Forts of Refuge” series, “Abigail’s Peace.” This book will be set at Fort Niagara during the uprising known as Pontiac’s Rebellion in 1763. It’s much different from books 1 & 2 as Fort Niagara was never technically under siege. I have my work cut out for me on this one.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Word of mouth always has been and always will be the best method, of course, but how to get those words into more mouths? That’s the question! I believe my newsletter is my best vehicle for that. https://www.subscribepage.com/PeggThomas It allows me to share a lot of who I am as well as my books with those who are interested.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Learn the craft. Plan to spend at least a couple of years and a couple of manuscripts just learning. Especially if you plan to go indie. I’m now a hybrid author, published traditionally and indie, plus I worked as a managing editor for a small publishing house for 3.5 years. There is SO MUCH to learn to turn out a quality product.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It was from my granddad. He said, “You only have one chance to make a good first impression.” He didn’t make that up, but it’s so true and so applicable to indie publishing. If you jump the gun and put out a book before it’s ready … you’ll shoot yourself in the foot with readers.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading “Behind Love’s Wall” by Carrie Fancett Pagels. She asked me for an endorsement on this inspirational historical romance set on Michigan’s Mackinac Island. I’m over halfway through and loving it!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d like to stay a hybrid author, so I’ll be sending more manuscripts to my agent to submit to publishing houses, but I have to say, I do love the immediacy of indie publishing. I like being able to see how the books are doing in real-time – not months later on a statement from the publisher. But I have another series half-written that I will likely publish indie too. So we’ll see how it all shakes out.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
the Bible
a survival guide
Robinson Crusoe
