Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have had two careers, one as a graphic designer and a second as an Art Teacher. Now that I have retired, I am embarking on a third – an author. I have completed several books, the Mary Finch Mystery series in for Middle-Grade right up to adult readers. The first one, Mary Finch and the Thief, has been self-published through amazon, and Mary Finch and the Grey Lady, and Mary Finch and the Spy will be released soon.
I love history, especially the nineteenth and early twentieth century, and had I not chosen Art to study in University, I may well have chosen history. My books (so far) have a historical twist. Mary Finch is set in 1893 London and in the Holmesian world of Conan Doyle (Dr Watson is a character in all three novels).

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Inglestone Manor – my fourth novel. I wanted to write a mystery middle-grade book about children evacuated from London during World War Two. It was a project began before writing the Mary Finch novels, that got put aside. Eventually after much umming and arring I finally managed to complete it. I can’t exactly what inspired it other than to say it was written about a period I do find fascinating.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Ah! Yes! That! By way of explanation, then. When I started to write seriously, it was winter and my flat was incredibly cold due to various central heating problems that lasted and lasted and… yes, lasted. So, I took to bed! Wrapped in a duvet, propped up by pillows, I found a comfortable place to write. When the problems were resolved, I thought, you know what, bed wasn’t such a bad place to write after all – and so I continued to do so.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many – just where to start? One of the very first books I read that wasn’t forced on to me (ie, by school) was Lord of the Rings. I think I was fourteen. And it was such a pleasant struggle. I tried to write like Tolkien soon after (oh, dear me! What a mistake!) the less said of that the better. I later found I liked so many books and authors to not really develop a favourite. But I would mention Neil Gaiman, John Le Carré’s Smiley series, Virginia Woolf, are but a few.

What are you working on now?
I have two projects in mind. The first is a detective book, possibly set in the Edwardian times in London, and the second a Ghost story theme (not sure when that will be set as I’m struggling with it at the moment). Also, I am in the final edit stage for Mary Finch and the Spy and Inglestone Manor. (I think, recently I have been so consumed with editing that the two projects mentioned have been stop and starts affairs and that’s possible why I am finding them a struggle).

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Not sure. I am new to this and finding out all the time.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never edit your book until you have finished writing it. It is not helpful in the early stage to go back and forth. Follow what Hemmingway said – that all first drafts are (swear word!). I also quite like what Neil Gaiman said: “Write down everything that happens in the story, and then in your second draft make it look like you knew what you were doing all along.”

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Read, read, read, read, and write, write, write, write, and then read some more (as far as writing is concerned).

What are you reading now?
Susan Hill’s Simon Serrailler novel – The Comforts of Home.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Just more books to write. I’d like to also get back to writing short stories. One idea I had for a fourth Mary Finch novel was a book made up of several short stories where the minor characters take the lead.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Unfair question! Virginia Woolf’s, To the Lighthouse. Virginia Woolf’s, The Years. Virginia Woolf’s, Mrs Dalloway (are you detecting a pattern?). But honestly, there are so many I could consider as well.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a retired Air Force Master Sergeant. I spent twenty years touring the world and working within the Civil Engineer Operations Management Career Field. My time in the Air Force took me to Japan, New Mexico, Texas, England, Germany, Kosovo, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Oman, and Bulgaria. Upon Retirement in 2017, I followed my dreams and starting writing. I became a published Author in 2018 and now have published children’s books under the Pen Name Auntie Nann, memoirs, Young Adult Romance, and multiple genres all available on Amazon. I am the founder and host of The Authors Porch podcast and Blog along with The Bombshell Book Review. my weekly Podcast shows allow me to talk to people and learn the light they are bringing into the world.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “Hopeless In The City” I was inspired to write this book because of my daughter. She is eighteen years old and off in college. I pulled from the feeling of leaving home my first time when I was 19 years old and how much I felt the freedom, yet pull to be home. From there the characters developed themselves and created their own destiny. I loved the friendship that was built within the book with the three girls as I have some friends like that as well; however, I never intended the book to have those other two girls in it, they popped in there on their own. They were quite bossy, they didn’t want to leave Angelica.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think they are unusual, but I tend to flip between books as I’m writing. I usually write more than one book at a time. I will open one in the morning and as the characters stop producing their story, another will come through and I flip to that document. I open each document and in my head, I ask them which ones want to come out and play basically LOL.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have read since I was a child. Beverly cleary was such an inspiration with the Ramona books. I graduated to Nora Roberts and fell in love with the fact that there was romance, but the characters invited you into their lives. I escaped inside her books.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a children’s book (first in a series) to be published in July, a YA fantasy for September, and a “HOPE” book in November. I do a collaboration book every year and the proceeds go to my sister who helps people overcome addiction and get off the streets in our hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. I call them my “HOPE” books.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I promote my books through Facebook, but more importantly I mention them in organic conversations. If they come up they do, if not I don’t pitch the subject to everyone I talk to. I believe you have to be an authentic person first.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
WRITE. Don’t stop. You are going to get discouraged. People aren’t going to notice sometimes. That is OKAY, you notice. Your characters are screaming to get out of you. Write if your heart calls to you. Be authentic throughout the entire process and don’t be afraid to fail. WE ALL DO, and it’s okay, it’s part of the learning process. Love yourself enough to let yourself cry when you need to, write when you need to, take a break when you need to and to celebrate when you deserve it!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You are going to suck until you don’t” – Russell Nohelty

After hearing this on a podcast, I wrote my first book and published it. It’s still live on Amazon and I am in love with it. I sold 3 of them to friends and it is horrible LOL, but I think it is beautiful!

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading the list below (yes I read a lot)
“The Shipping Heiress” – Lisa Higgins
“Beyond The Pear Blossoms” – Shawna Rodriguez
“Straight From The Hart” – Traci Bannister
“Dark Strike” – Kim Richardson

What’s next for you as a writer?
For me, I want to keep doing exactly what I am doing. I’m writing in the genre of the characters that bring their story to me. I’m creating a space for authors to tell their stories and show their masterful pieces of art. I love my podcasts and my writing and I want to keep doing it. I would love to have more dogs, but my husband has stopped me at six, so i’m at peace with it. LOL

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Diary of A Young Girl – Anne Franke
Charlotte’s Web – E.B. White
Any of the Ramona books by Beverly Clery

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in Oklahoma. My dad was a jazz saxophone player and my mom a librarian, so naturally I became a jazz sax player and writer. I attended the University of Central Oklahoma and got my Bachelors Degree in Music Education. After college I moved to New York City to play jazz, which I’m still doing, to an extent, although I now live in upstate New York. I wrote jazz criticism for magazines like Jazz Times and Jazziz, as well as web sites like AllMusic, before I decided to pivot to fiction. I’ve always been a fan of crime novels, as well as film noir, so it was natural I write mysteries. So far I’ve written three books and am working on a fourth,

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Ain’t Nothin’ Personal is my latest—the third volume in a series featuring a fictional small-town Oklahoma police chief named Emmett Hardy. The series is set in the ’60s and (starting with the book I’m working on now) the ’70s. I draw heavily on my memories of growing up in small towns during that era. Part of my motivation for writing is to address social issues in a relatively subtle, almost subversive way. Of course, there was now shortage of social turmoil in the ’60s and ’70s and my books reflect that. My protagonist, Emmett Hardy, is an idealized version of what I’d a cop to be—compassionate and slow to anger, someone who enforces the law with a light touch.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Only if you consider writing in bed unusual. When the weather’s warm I like to write outside on my porch, where I have a beautiful view. During the cold months, however, I write in bed. Only when it’s made, though! If I wrote from under the covers I might never get up.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many. Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, and Ross MacDonald. Tony Hillerman’s books were a huge influence. Also Craig Johnson’s Longmire books. Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo’s Martin Beck mysteries showed me how social issues can be folded into a mystery novel. Outside the realm of crime fiction, I’d have to say Mark Twain has been my biggest influence. Sherwood Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio also affected me a great deal. I shouldn’t forget Stephen King, either.

What are you working on now?
As I mentioned, I’m currently working on the fourth—so far untitled—volume in the Emmett Hardy series. This one begins on the day Nixon resigns in 1974. Ain’t Nothin’ Personal was the third book in a trilogy: Where the Hurt Is being the first, Butcherville being the second. A lot was seemingly resolved at the time Ain’t Nothin’ Personal ends in 1967. Things have changed in the subsequent seven years. Emmett’s forced to fight some of the demons he thought he’d conquered.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
BookBub picked up my first book—Where the Hurt Is—and got me tons of reader reviews and increased sales. So far that’s the best. I also did some targeted advertising on Facebook that might have made a difference. Hopefully, Awesome Gang will become my new go-to promotional site.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Whenever you’re tempted to spew a few hundred words slapping down some idiot on Facebook, open your word processor instead and use that passion to write something lasting and meaningful.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Omit needless words.

What are you reading now?
Faux Friends, by A.J. McCarthy, a terrific mystery set in Quebec City.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and Lonesome Dove (because I love Larry McMurtry but still haven’t read what many consider his masterpiece; also, it’s long).

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The title of my last book is “If I Did It Prove It”.
The reason for this book came from knowing someone that was bullied as a kid and the trauma that they went through and still deals with today.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No I don’t. I just write when it hits me too.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have always loved Eric Jerome Dickey and E. Lynn Harris

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on a few things.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m hoping Awesome Gang is the best website when it comes to promoting my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would tell any new author to never give up. Always remember the love you have for writing and to never focus on the sales because it’s not always easy. Some books my do well when others my not. Mostly learn your craft and always be willing to grow and it’s okay to step out of your box from time to time.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
See it to the end. It’s not over until you stop believing.

What are you reading now?
At this moment I’m not reading anything

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hoping movie or television deals are next on the table for me.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would have to say any book from Coco Mixon or Stephanie Wilson.
Chocolate Brown Series by Coco Mixon
Be Careful Who You Love by Stephanie Wilson
We Belong Together by Stephanie Wilson

Any of their books will be okay with me.

Orsiela Wiese

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Orsiela Wiese is a 47-year-old South African author. When her adult children left the nest, she started writing to accomplish her childhood dream of becoming an author. She has published five books on Amazon Kindle Direct in the past two years. Two books are non-fiction. One is a psychology book on child abuse, and another a self-help book on Dementia. She also wrote a fantasy, a paranormal thriller, and an erotica. Currently, she is working on a comedy. Her aim is to find the specific genre to please her readers.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Erotica Island, The Seven Tests

I plan to write a book in each genre to find a specific genre for my readers. Erotica was next in line, and a comedy will be next.

I chose this storyline because I needed to give the story more body and a decent storyline. I tend to do a lot of research before I write a book, and the storyline regarding a Secret Society guided me towards ancient promiscuous rituals. All seven tests are based on factual sexually promiscuous events from the past.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I get lost for days in my writing. My characters come alive, and they guide me on what to write. I write a minimum of 4000 words per day.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read EVERYTHING from ANYBODY. I do not follow other authors’ writing styles, I use my own. When I was eight years old I wrote my first ‘story’, and do not follow other authors’ rules, except for the obvious grammar and literary rules.

What are you working on now?
A comedy, but I do not want to say a lot about it now. My characters are still entertaining me… A lot!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Writing is just half the job. Promoting and marketing it, is the other half.

Lately the writing style, grammar, and rules became more relevant than the (fantastic) story itself. Get a good editor, because it is worth more than your fantastic story. Sad bad true.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There has to bad, to appreciate the good.

What are you reading now?
When the Lions feed, Wilbur Smith

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to finish a book in every genre to establish where I should settle.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Living Off the Land: tracking, Building Traps, Shelters, Toolmaking, Finding Water and Food – Chris McNab

Unhinged: The Trouble with Psychiatry – Daniel Carlat

The Notebook – Nicholas Sparks

My second book, Mirror Maze Land is a longer, fantasy novel, for older children and that will be out soon. I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Bibalibet was inspired by my youngest child Sirius and was created to teach children about the relationship between the things that we do and how this impacts on how we feel. I choose the character name, Bibalibet, because I think it’s so much fun to say.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write for yourself first. Make sure that you stay true to your voice and just keep writing and improving your craft.

You can’t please everyone. As long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and honestly say that you’ve tried your best – that’s all that counts. That’s all anyone could ever ask.

My daughter and I are reading The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips by Michael Morpurgo together.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
One book of a trilogy

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Silence of New Market. Born in the 90s and witnessed the timelapse of analogue to the digital world. And he has been witnessing the ever-changing facet of a city and its people. From staying in a large family to staying in aloofness. Dreamt about becoming a filmmaker but ended up in a pseudo-sustainable Government job. The only scope of momentarily releasing the jammed desire of storytelling was writing down them on an online platform.
The idea of the ‘Liberation’ trilogy emerged in the process. It’s based on three simplified phases of life i.e. Despondence, Seeking, Enlightenment (if there’s any). ‘Silence of New Market’ being the first novel of the Liberation trilogy represents the despondence part.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know what you mean by that.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Charles Bukowski, Cormac McCarthy and a lot of Indian authors.

What are you working on now?
2nd book of Liberation Trilogy

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook, i guess.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just Do It.

What are you reading now?
Not much of a reader. I read from here and there.

What’s next for you as a writer?
A short trivia novel of ‘Silence of New Market’ and then writing the 2nd part of this trilogy.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I suppose, Srimad Bhagabat Gita. or, I’m not going to take any books, i guess.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in São Paulo, Brazil. I had a nice childhood, surrounded by toys and the affection that every child needs. As a teenager I had my fun, but I’ve always been a fan of the motto, “health and judgment.” I’ve also always liked to write. …
I also always loved it as a child scribbling drawings and later in my teens I started painting some paintings and even recorded a new character in comics that I have kept.
My first book were Poetry’s,Lyrical Chronicles and Thoughts.
My second book title is “A distância não vai conseguir separar você de mim in Brasilian Portuguese. The distance will not be able to separate you from in the English language that speaks from the high school adventures of the 80s.The first one is Poetry’s,Lyrical Chronicle and Thoughts.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The last one,The distance won’t be able to separate you from me is inspired by the teenage adventures of the youth of the 80’s and 90’s.A time when the internet was still a novelty and our only concern was to read more and more books for inspiration, to get good grades at school and to have a lot of culture.Things weren’t chewed up.We had to read and think nothing compared to these modernities of today.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have many drafts and notes in notebooks and files saved on hard work from old computers. In the old place I was more annotator and observer and any inspiration that came I would get a piece of paper and pen and write so as not to forget the initial idea.A lot of ideas have come up like this but now I want to turn a lot of work into music.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Of course everyone who is from the world the arts, literature and music ends up discovering their own talent but sore read a lot and loved history books mainly about World War II but no one does anything without reading the point of view of others.
Being so at school I liked very much rde a book that inspired called School writing, analysis, synthesis and Extrapolacso, Illustrated Grammar with its hilarious comics to explain my language and other books since Agatha Cristhie, Hercule Poirot,The Little Prince at school, Albert Einstein and bibliography of world famous leaders

What are you working on now?
At the moment, I am spreading what I already have and looking for partnerships in the sense of composing music with my works and recovering the files of old HDs where there is more material saved for other books.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I think that currently there is no better method not what exists and be recognized for its talent and dedication even because for whom and beginner, unknown and does not write at the level of Shakespeare due to this not being my native language much criticism. And there is a lot of boldness in the said modernities. So people are very immediatist with videos and crazy stories but and a sieve I do not seek my 15 minutes of Fame as the saying goes in my country but something lasting in the people need to wake up mainly young people but all in general for what is lasting and not immediacy.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Enjoy what you do, never think of reward that recognize your talent is priceless and study, improve yourself.Everything and like a diamond that needs to be cut.
Having firm feet on the ground that these modernities have also brought with them a lot of illusion and lies making people create false expectations which is very boring and sad.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
First of all from my father who is gone: have your feet firmly on the ground and study, improve yourself and from my mother who always believed in me
Of my dear Portuguese Language teachers who praised
From one or the other friend:move on you get way to the thing

Of a church and its young people: never give up your dreams
And of Art Seeman who said:What we get is an open honest appraisal of Young’s energy and his view of life. This is good poetry. It is honest and not self-seeking. ”Art Seemann ” AICW – ” The American Institute of Creative Writing

What are you reading now?
I think more than want to read just this or that book and need to have a general knowledge of everything to have creativity and point of view.
Being so and I need to read everything as in fact I have always done since childhood until now.As I always wanted to be a teacher, journalist, philosopher, historian, finally something related to the arts and humanities I love to read articles from newspapers that speak from important facts at the national and international level Passing by historical figures.

What’s next for you as a writer?
In fact, to make the world know my words and to be able to write and sing music since they are related arts. Have my channel on the radio or tv or be a commentator. On YouTube I already have a channel but I want to grow more . That today you have to be a different all-rounder than you used to be.
It does not advance I to want to begin anything new without at least the persons in whole world to know of what it has already promptly. Oh as it is said that the dictation in mine country:There complicates isn’t it Jon Doe?

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Something on survival surely
Another book on love not to lose heart
Other on history not to forget of as it was the world before me to be in this island.
