Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a freelance journalist for magazines and newspapers, former humor columnist, joke writer and author of two books – How Not to Parent, based on my humor column, and Jon Caruso: Spy in the Making.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Jon Caruso: Spy in the Making. I’ve been an avid reader of suspense and thrillers since I was a kid and always wanted to write a suspense novel. I finally did, with a lot of humor thrown in.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do my best writing on my iphone, while taking public transportation.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dean Koontz, Stephen King, David Baldacci, James Patterson, to name just a few

What are you working on now?
The second book in the Jon Caruso series and a couple of short stories that, like Jon Caruso, are fun and combine humor and suspense.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social media – Twitter and Facebook— and interviews.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Book marketing is difficult. Put as much effort into your marketing plan as your book. Also, don’t wait until your book is done to develop your marketing plan. Create it as you write your book.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There’s a great quote about the writing process: “It is perfectly okay to write garbage—as long as you edit brilliantly.” C. J. Cherryh.

What are you reading now?
The Girl Who Played with Fire, Stieg Larsson

What’s next for you as a writer?
Complete my current projects and start outlining, planning book 3 in the Jon Caruso series.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
It’s tough to narrow it down to 3 or 4 but I’d go with a few I’ve never read: Big Trouble (Dave Barry), The Girl on The Train (Paula Hawkins), and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest (Stieg Larsson)

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, I’m Sylvia, a Young/New Adult Romance/Fantasy author. I’m from Nigeria, and I’ve written 3 books but only one of those has been published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, Fated Accident, will hopefully be live on the 20th of December. I’m honestly not sure what inspired it. I was lost in my head one day and the scene of their first kiss came to me. The rest of the story just built around it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if it’s all that unusual, but I usually skip to the middle and end about 2 chapters into the book. I somehow always get stuck at the beginning, but after the end, I know the characters better and some of their actions from the beginning make better sense to me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve always been an eclectic reader. But I believe Nora Roberts fostered my love for romance and happily ever afters. I however like some other authors like Sareah Hill,( she’s all round great and a beautiful human being), I also enjoy Patricia Briggs, Eliza Nolan, L.V. Lane etc.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m writing a young adult book set in Lagos Nigeria. It revolves around a girl who goes through hell, but finds the will to push on and fight to get the future she believes in and wants despite being kicked down so many times. Does she get her happy ending? Sign up for my mailing list and find out when it’s out.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m yet a new author and still testing the waters when it comes to book promotions and marketing. I’m still learningfwhat works for me and my brand too.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing even if you look at your work and feel like its puke. Just keep at it and you’ll realise you’re getting better.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Always remember that bad reviews are not about you, but about the work and its only the person’s opinion.

What are you reading now?
Somehow I’ve been all about reversed harem lately, lol. I’m reading L.V. Lane’s Omegaverse series.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m hoping to establish a system that works for me, so I can concentrate on writing more books. I have so many stories waiting to be told in my head.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Can a series count as 1 book? Lol. I would take Sarah Hill’s ‘Call of the Blue Heron’ I’ve heard so many good things about it. I’d probably also take Patricia Brigg’s omega series, I’ve been wanting to reread it. Oops, I think that was more than 4 books, but hey, I’m sure I’d find a way to smuggle books.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a USA Today bestselling author of 25 books published in 7 languages. Most of my swashbuckling action-adventure historical romances are set in medieval Scotland.

Before I was a writer, I had a colorful career that included teaching ballet, doing typography in a graphic arts studio, composing music for science films, playing in an all-girl band on CBS Records, doing voices for the MTV animated feature The Maxx, video games Diablo and Starcraft, and Star Wars audiobooks. I’m married to a rock star who’s also my high school sweetheart.

I love playing medieval matchmaker, transporting readers to a place where the bold heroes have endearing flaws, the women are stronger than they look, and chivalry is alive and well!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is BRIDE OF ICE, Book 2 of The Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch. Since my Warrior Maids series was a reader favorite, I decided I had to tell the stories of their daughters.

In BRIDE OF ICE, Hallidis Cameliard has an etched-in-stone destiny–marriage to a man of the king’s choosing and eventual reign over Rivenloch. So of course I had to mess with that and throw in a hero who would ruin all her best-laid plans. Enter Colban an Curaidh, a Highlander whose honor and charm belie his humble beginnings and thaw Hallie’s heart.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m a plotster (half plotter, half pantster). I have a general outline before I start writing, but I like to discover connections, motivations, and surprises right along with the reader.

I also edit as I go rather than writing several drafts, so when I write THE END, all I need is a final read to make sure the flow is right.

I don’t write well with music going, especially if there are lyrics. Since I have a background in music, I’m very likely to sing along, which takes me out of the writing zone.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My early inspirations for the kind of stories I write were Howard Pyle for his noble tales of King Arthur and Robin Hood, and Ray Bradbury for his magical descriptions. When I was old enough to read historical romance, I devoured Jude Deveraux and Julie Garwood, and I loved Penelope Williamson’s writing. “Keeper of the Dream” is one of my favorites.

What are you working on now?
I’m just starting Book 3 of The Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch, BRIDE OF MIST. It will follow the adventures of the third daughter, Feiyan la Nuit, as she seeks vengeance on the savage knight who attacks her clan in the tournament at the end of BRIDE OF ICE.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Email is always my favorite way to contact readers, and email blast services like Awesome Gang are the best way to contact NEW readers. I also engage on a daily basis in my Facebook group, giving my fans behind-the-scenes peeks, sharing special sales, and hosting exclusive giveaways.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t write unless you must. Writing is not a get-rich-quick scheme or an easy path to fame. It’s hard work, and you have to have a passion for it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just do it. Most of my success has come from being willfully naive about my chances of succeeding. I try not to think about all the ways I might fail and just go for it. If I fall, I fall. I won’t let it discourage me. I’ll just get back up and move on to the next thing.

What are you reading now?
I just finished “On Tyranny” by Timothy Snyder, a very short guidebook that everyone should read about resisting fascism. Now I’m starting “Little Fires Everywhere” by Celeste Ng. My TBR pile is so eclectic! “Alexander Hamilton”…”Crazy Rich Asians”…”Doctor Sleep”…”Too Wanton to Wed”…

What’s next for you as a writer?
Since I’m also a voiceover actress, I’m considering creating audiobooks this year in partnership with a male voiceover talent. As far as writing, I’m working on Book 3 of the Warrior Daughters and plan to write about the Warrior Sons soon.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1) Surviving on and Escaping from a Desert Island for Dummies
2) The Complete Works of William Shakespeare
3) The Lord of the Rings
4) My grandmother’s floor dictionary, which is so enormous, it might make a decent raft

Stevie McBride

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have been writing science fiction from the age of sixteen, mostly for my own pleasure, although in my early years I had a number of short stories published in Science Fiction magazines. For a brief time, I was also editor of a Science Fiction fanzine. And I also wrote comic books and completed a couple of other novels, although nothing that I was satisfied enough until now, to put before a public audience.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Time Dancer is my first published novel. I’ve always loved time travel novels and I wanted to look at what would happen to a young girl if she had the ability to dance forward through time. The book effectively tells two stories. One in which the consequences of her constant leaps forward are examined. And another where the events of a particular day unfold. When my heroine has to face her demons and fight off a group of monsters in the woods in order to save her friends.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure it’s unusual, but I like to do a quick first draft to block out the plot and make sure its consistent, before writing the book in detail, allowing it to flow and working on characterisation.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Lots of sci-fi. The classic authors. Heinlein, Asimov, Philip K Dick. Frank Herbert’s Dune is my all-time favourite sci-fi book. But I also like more recent speculative fiction by people like Clare North, as well as YA sci-fi novels like the Hunger Games and Mrs Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children. Anything really that’s weird and thought-provoking.

What are you working on now?
I’m already working on the sequel to The Time Dancer. I’m about a third of the way through the first draft. I hope to have it out sometime next year.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promotion is relatively new to me so I’m trying all sorts of ways to promote my book. I’m particularly active on Twitter, where I’m slowly building up a following.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep working on your craft. Believe in yourself. And never give up.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write like you’re a reader.

What are you reading now?
The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton

What’s next for you as a writer?
Dividing my time between writing my next novel, promoting my current book and being a parent.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Dune, the Foundation trilogy, all the Harry Potter books.
