Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi! I’m Phoebe, and I’m a 17-year-old writer, entrepreneur, and student. I’ve written one novel (never published) and just published a new nonfiction book, Look Smart, on Amazon. I now work with Get Found Madison, a local digital marketing agency. When not obsessing over time management and efficiency, I like to spend time with my family and play ultimate frisbee. I live in Madison, Wisconsin with her family, sixteen chickens, three pigs, and one cat.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Look Smart. It’s a collection of easy-to-implement tips especially for college students and young adults. I wanted a title that echoed the way that you can implement these hacks in just a few minutes, but they can make profound changes to your life, from losing weight to saving time.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Hmm, that’s an interesting question. I wouldn’t say so; I’m pretty typical. I wake up early and do my writing in the morning. One unique writing tool I’ve used a few times is called the Most Dangerous Writing App; it’s a free website where, if you stop writing for five seconds, it deletes everything you’ve written, forcing you to keep writing. I wouldn’t recommend it for serious writing seshes, but if you just need to get something done, it’s a lifesaver.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Seth Godin’s classic productivity book Getting Things Done- it was the book that originally got me interested in productivity. Other than that, I’m a big fan of Off the Clock by Laura Vanderkam and Set for Life by Scott Trench, both very good finance and timesaving books.

What are you working on now?
I’m primarily focused on my digital marketing job as well as my last year of high school, but I hope to write more productivity books in the future- maybe one about applying to college or college tips.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
AMS ads as well as word of mouth are always good options.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stay motivated. Force yourself to keep going even when it’s difficult by reminding yourself that one day, you’ll be able to hold the book in your hands or see it up there on Amazon. It’s an amazing feeling.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never be afraid of failing. It sounds cliche, but when you truly live like this, it’s incredibly freeing. Just think of what you would do if you weren’t afraid.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Your Money Or Your Life, a classic finance book by Vicki Robin. It’s very interesting and I’m learning a lot about saving and financial independence, both important topics as I go off to college.

What’s next for you as a writer?
As I said before, I’m thinking about writing more books on productivity or time management in a series about college. I’m also looking into blogging and starting a website.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Catcher in the Rye, Salem’s Lot, Les Miserables, and the Bible.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have just completed my first English novel and self published it on amazon. I’m a filmmaker, a scriptwriter and aspiring painter.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
It’s called “Missing in Jakarta”. I stayed in Jakarta a few years back to work on a feature script and some sightings around the city stayed in my memory. After I returned to Korea, I started to research on criminal activities in Southeast Asia and learned there’s a huge network. I was most concerned about the human trafficking and how it is influenced by both local and international participants. I had to write about it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have a routine, not unusual per say. I try to set aside at least 3 days to work on writing per week, each time at least 4 hours or more. I used to work at cafes but due to covid19, I am now working in my study in front of my iMac.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have admiration for unique storytellers, who bring unexpected stories to the world. Christopher Nolan for example. I also admire daring film works like ‘Incendies’ by director Denis Villeneuve, which was a shocking eyeopener into the experience of war. I also watched many types of films since I was young, ranging from American, Hong Kong, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, French, Spanish film worlds.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on the second draft of my SF feature script. It was completed early this year and I have the support of Korean producers on board the project. It was selected in the preliminary round of Incheon Fantasy Convention Film Production Support Program. I will also get to work on my second novel in 2021.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m a beginner in self publishing so I’m trying everything. I contacted blogs, influencers to review my book, activated Amazon ads, posted on facebook groups, messaged all my acquaintances, and gifted books to some readers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
As a novelist, I’m also a beginner. As a scriptwriter, I think I’m semi pro. What I realized after we are all hit by cover 19 is that we must secure diverse passive income routes, so that we can stop worrying about daily income and focus on our dreams. I hope we’ll all make it through this crisis and become better at finance management.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I adhere to the advice given by Japanese novelist Murakami Haruki. Work methodically, keep fit, enjoy diverse activities to inspire yourself, don’t try to please everybody, and stop trying to watch or read other people’s work too much, what matters is your own work. 🙂

What are you reading now?
I just started “Vegetarian” by Han Kang. The first page is already so chilling!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ve been working to make my debut as film director in Korea for the last decade. I hope to accomplish that goal before I die! LOL. But as a writer, I know I’ll keep writing new stories every year, and never stop developing my own voice.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Vegetarian”, any great books on marketing and promotion, dictionary, and human anatomy drawings by Andrew Loomis.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi,
I have always loved reading and writing, as well as being outside doing just about anything. I have written three and 2/3 books (the computer ate one I was working on, and I’m having trouble wanting to go back and rewrite it). Ember (released Sept 15, 2020) is my first published book, and Northanger Haunting is my second (released October 27, 2020). They’re part of a series of fantasy Austen retellings I’m doing with my writing group, and putting it all together has been an adventure!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Northanger Haunting is my latest book. The series is the result of a brainstorm dreamed up in one of our writing group meetings.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I spend a lot of time daydreaming plots that range from medieval to science fiction, and wish I didn’t need so much sleep! Four hours should be plenty–but it’s not.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh, wow. A lot of them. I read from most genres, and I’ve had authors in all groups astound me with how they craft the story (Megan Whalen Turner), the language they use (Kerrigan Byrne), humor (Jim Butcher) and making characters come to life (Michael J. Sullivan). I think my favorite characters of all time are Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater from Sullivan’s Riyria Revelations.

What are you working on now?
I’m ready to get back into a project that got put on hold because of the Magical Regency series. It’s a contemporary action romance that I’m really excited about, and am planning to turn into a 4-book series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m brand new at this sort of thing, so I’m still exploring. I’m using an Amazon ad campaign, and a couple different advertising avenues I discovered through kindlepreneur, which is where I came across Awesome Gang. I’m sure I’ll be doing a lot of tweaking in the future.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing. Your skills will always be changing and improving. As long as you love it, keep doing it. There’s something so satisfying about telling a story that you created.
Also, advertising. I’m sorry, but it’s a thing you can’t get away from. *sigh*

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s easier to get into something than out of it.
Sooooo true. 😉

What are you reading now?
Ghost Collector, by Allison Mills.
I love the author’s take on ghosts. The writing and storyline drew me in from page 1.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I mentioned the contemporary action romance I’m working on, and I’m really excited to keep going with that. After that, I think I want to do another Regency.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Tough question. Definitely the Riyria Revelations by Michael Sullivan. It’s six books, but one series, so I’m counting it. Easy by Tammara Webber, and as many Dresden novels as I can fit.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a self-published author of The Ian’s Realm Saga, a six book series that has been made into a short concept film and has sold over 20,000 copies, being a best seller on Amazon in between Harry Potter and Percy Jackson twice. I also authored 12 other novels in the fantasy and historical fantasy genres as well as several short stories and novellas. My WWII novel was based on letters written by in-laws during the war.

I live in the Pacific Northwest, am a screenwriter and an artist also. When I’m not working on telling a tale, I’m planting a garden or taking a walk in the woods with my husband.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Far Side of Heaven
I’ve been wanting to write a cozy Christmas story just for the mood sake, and to make it a sweet romance.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I just write a lot.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Sanderson and Jordan. I love fantasy.

What are you working on now?
I just finished the third book of a trilogy tentatively titled Sword of Cho Nisil and am querying it to see if I can get an agent.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
BookBub has helped me the most in promoting my books. If you can get a deal with them, they are worth the money.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep honing your skills and read as much as you can.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A good laugh and a long sleep are cures for everything – from a Peanuts cartoon. Of course chocolate helps.

What are you reading now?
Brandon Sanderson’s Oathbringer

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m not sure. I am really looking to get this series picked up and if it is, I’ll need to spend time doing more editing I’m sure. I am considering doing more novellas in the style of The Far Side of Heaven but I haven’t decided yet.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
To Kill a Mockingbird because it’s such a sweet story.
Lord of the Rings
Chronicles of Narnia
And Uncle Remus

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an Australian author who grew up in a small country town. I love thrillers and suspense stories as well as SciFi and Fantasy.

I have written two books, ‘Dark Horse’ and ‘Rigged Game.’ They are both thrillers set in a small country town in rural Australia. The stories showcase the setting and the lives of the people who live in these beautiful town right across Australia.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is ‘Rigged Game.’ I like listening to true crime podcasts, and a few episodes came on my feed that dealt with domestic violence, especially how the most dangerous time for a woman leaving an abusive relationship is when her partner realizes she is not coming back to the relationship.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write anywhere anytime! I like bicycle touring, so I often take me laptop with me on little adventures into the wilderness. Some of my best writing has been done under a tarp!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many! I’ve always enjoyed Stephen King and Roald Dahl. My favourite Australian author is probably Craig Silvey. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot of Neil Gaiman, Mark Dawson, and Brandon Sanderson.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on the third installment of the Brooksdale Series – the same town in which ‘Dark Horse’ and ‘Rigged Game’ take place in. I’m interested in how refugee populations interact with country towns. When I was growing up, I vividly remember having dinner at the local Chinese restaurant or lunch at a cafe owned and operated by a Greek family. In recent years, we’ve seen South Sudanese refugees move to country towns, so I want to explore their experiences of rural Australia, too.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website: jdunderwood.net

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing and seek feedback!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Discipline beats motivation!

What are you reading now?
Malcolm Gladwell’s ‘Outliers.’

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m interested in experimenting with ScFi and Fantasy, and I’m tinkering with a few ideas in those genres.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A collection of works by Roald Dahl, Neil Gaimen, Brandon Sanderson, and possibly something on philosophy.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a normal man like everyone else. But I am pampered. I have visual memory and can learn things only by watching. I am self-taught. I learned construction, drawing, boxing and many other things. Funny thing, I hated reading as a kid, and I became a writer. I learned to write a novel by reading books, analyzing the structure, and doing the same thing again using my ideas.
What is rare for a person is either the person is more intellectual or he is more manual. Fortunately, I am able to use both sides of my brain: the artistic side, and the manual side. I like to play sports. I love to build with my hands, houses or objects. I love real estate as you can tell from my books.
I also like to help people. So by writing educational books I can help a lot more people.
I wrote 8 books. 6 fantasy novels in my first language, and 2 educational books in English.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is: How a 17-year-old can do house flipping without losing money. I found inspiration for this book because I love to manage, invest money. And I find it essential that young people today learn to manage their money and not go into debt. The younger you start, the more money you’ll make in the future. And by becoming a young entrepreneur, you will gain financial freedom much faster. So here’s my inspiration.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always make plans to be structured in my work.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King

What are you working on now?
On some online course, and plans about my next books.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Well, it’s a secret, haha. I heard that Book Bub is the best.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do what you love. Be persistent like a bull!!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what you love to be happy!

What are you reading now?
News!!! haha.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Working on my next books. Doing promotion.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Christine by Stephen King
The Legend of Drizzt by RA Salvatore the series

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
A. J. Peters lives nestled in the middle of the Adirondack mountains with her longtime boyfriend, bird dog, and guard cat. She is a small-town girl with strong family values. Her hobbies include hiking, reading self-help books (because nobody is perfect), watching nature documentaries, and working on her “fixer-upper” home.
A. J. Peters obtained a doctorates degree in pharmacy after graduating Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2014. She is the author of her debut novel, “The Art of Organized Happiness: The Complete Guide on How to Organize Your Life”. She has newly discovered her love for writing and has big plans for the future. She is one writer I would keep on my watch list!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I am very excited to share my debut novel, “The Art of Organized Happiness: The Complete Guide on How to Organize Your Life”. I really enjoyed writing this book and encouraging my inner “neat freak” to come out. Life can be stressful and chaotic. I hope this book is able to help those who struggle with messiness and organization, as I feel everyone struggles with this at one point in their life. The clutter monster is defiant and resourceful, but sometimes all one needs is a little push to start fighting back. So sit down, relax and let this book give you the tools you need to melt away the stresses in your life!

What are you working on now?
I am working on using my pharmacy background to dive into healthcare related topics such as disease states, healthcare related issues, and more.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You miss every shot you don’t take.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Twilight Saga as it is still one of my favorites!

Robert Randall

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As the title of my memoir attests, I was born and raised in the deep South. After a stint in the Air Force (ours), I got just enough education to be dangerous (an MS in Mass Communications from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette) and took my show on the road–literally. For ten years I was an itinerant disc jockey and sometimesTV sports anchor. When I came to my senses, I became an advertising copywriter (okay, scratch coming to my senses).

Lost in the 50s: In Meridian, Mississippi, a coming-of-age memoir, is my seventh published book. The others include four novels, one history book and a spiritual/self-help book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A few years ago, I published a novel called The Great Pretender: Confessions of a Semi-Incorrigible Southern Catholic Boy, a thinly disguised memoir of my formative and teen years.

Lost in the 50s: In Meridian, Mississippi cuts to the chase, focusing on my adolescent years–a time of young romance, raging hormones, and, in my case, a wildly dysfunctional family. It’s a fun book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
None that I can think of. Unless you count chewing sugar-free gum until the flavor is a dubious memory. Does hair pulling count?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Wow, too many to count. Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Robert Penn Warren. In more recent times, Richard Russo, Kate Atkinson, Donna Tartt, Richard Ford, Annie Proulx…

What are you working on now?
I am almost finished with a period piece tentatively called The Gallaway Girls, a tale of two sisters in their twenties in the middle of World War II. They are mostly happy survivors of a traumatic childhood in which they lost both parents and spent their adolescent years in a boarding school. It is ten years later when the unsolved case of their father’s murder is suddenly reopened and becomes the focus of their lives.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Kindlepreneur has been helpful.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t wait for inspiration to write. Let your writing inspire you.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write, come hell or high water. Every day, sit down and write, even if you have to write about not being able to write.

What are you reading now?
I am re-reading Don DeLillo’s Libra.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am presently at work on a novel about a quirky romance (not a romance novel) between two basically sweet, but dysfunctional young people whose relationship is challenged by the traumas of their adolescence.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d probably want to have a book or two on mindful meditation and a good manual on how to survive on a desert island.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been writing since I can remember! I always loved to read and write and wrote my first “book” when I was 12..of course it was about horses. Horses are my other passion and outside of writing I am the Vice President of our family business where we manufacture sports medicine products for horses. If you read my books you’ll find a few have an equestrian theme or background to them.
I grew up in the foothills of San Diego county where we always had horses and I started riding as a little girl. I was also a competitive gymnast for seven years as a kid and give credit to the sport in providing me with the skill of tenacity and determination. I think it’s one of the reasons why I can write under the gun!
I went to college at The University of Southern California and studied journalism. But, I always wanted to write fiction. Soon after I graduated I had my first son and wrote my first novel! That was 1991 and I have been writing books ever since. I love it!!
I’m a mom to three amazing, grown children. I love to cook! I’ve written 36 books….7 of them were co-authored projects. I just recently moved from my hometown of San Diego to San Francisco where I am brewing a new mystery series or two in my head!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is DEADLY AFFAIRS and it’s the fourth book in my Holly Jennings Thriller series. DADDY’S HOME is the first book in this series! Holly is a San Diego Homicide Detective who has been through quite a bit, which you know if you’ve read the series and if you haven’t.. I won’t spoil it. This particular book was inspired by The Ashley Madison scandal that broke a few years ago where cheaters were basically called out due to hackers. So, there’s a lot of that in the book. I started writing it right after the third book (THE PREFERENCE) but life got messy and I went through a divorce, which threw a curve ball in my writing process. When life settled down again I knew I had to get back in the saddle so to speak and start writing again. It’s out now and I’m doing the work to get the series back in front of my readers and the word out to new readers.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
None that I can think of.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
James Patterson, Stephen King, PD James, Dean Koontz, Sandra Brown are all authors who have influenced me in some way or another. I love the scary stuff, anything mystery, thriller…a little romance is always good, too.

What are you working on now?
I am actually working on a second book in my Dead Celeb series. The title is The Dark Portal. These books are paranormal mystery with elements of romance, fantasy, humor, etceteras. They’re super fun to write! I write them under my name (Michele Scott) because they are a different tone than my AK Alexander books.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The industry is always changing so I honestly don’t have a good answer here. I think the best thing a writer can do is just stay on top of it as much as possible. Take workshops, read books, reach out to influencers, and constantly be educating on the business side as well as improving their writing. Right now I run social media platforms and my website (www.michelescott.com).

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is first and foremost…WRITE. Writing is the only thing you can truly control in this thing. You never know what is going to sell so if an author is in this with the mindset it’s a get rich quick thing then this isn’t the game for them. You can control the writing and if it’s your purpose you know it and you just sit in the chair and write. Secondly, is what I mentioned before and that is educate yourself constantly. This is such an ever evolving business and it’s important to stay on top of it or have someone who does that for you if you can while you write. Unfortunately, most writers don’t have that kind of support so they have to balance their time with the writing versus the business side of things and this goes for both traditionally published and indie authors. I’ve had books be published both ways and there’s not much difference I fund as far as the time consumption and efforts that have to go into birthing a book and giving it the best opportunity to find a readership that will support it and help the sales grow.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I ever heard was…Bumglue. Bryce Courtenay who was one of Australia’s best selling commercial authors and a major mentor of mine told me. He said…glue your bum to the chair and write. BUMGLUE!

What are you reading now?
I read a few books at a time. My current non-fiction that I’m reading is THINK LIKE A MONK by Jay Shetty. I’m also reading SHERLOCK HOLMES’ DAUGHTER and LOCK EVERY DOOR.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Next up for me is to finish THE DARK PORTAL and then I have a few ideas brewing. I will write book 5 in The Holly Jennings series and likely start an entirely new series. My Wine Lover’s Mysteries have been optioned for TV so there are some fun things happening there, too!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmmm…as a kid Black Beauty and then all of the Nancy Drew books! As an adult that is tough but The Mists of Avalon stands out for me.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written two books so far, both are part of my Black Magick Series. (There was also a book of poetry, many years ago, that I don’t really talk about). I am a vegan, living outside the town of Mannington, West Virginia with Riley and Petunia, two pigs I adopted after my first internship with Farm Sanctuary. I have tried many different career paths in my life, but writing has always been a constant for me. It’s my outlet, my escape. I care deeply about animal rights and environmental protection, and like to reflect those things in my writing.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Myths &Music. It is the second book in the series, so I guess what inspired this one was the desire to see where the story was going. As far as what inspired the series, it started with this one image I had in my head, of a guy chain-smoking outside an apartment building, in the middle of the night. I needed to know why he was there. I had initially started out to write a short story about him, but it turns out I’m terrible at writing short stories; I always want to know what happens next.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I guess my most unusual writing habit is obsessive multi-tasking. I always try to start on a new project before I’m completely finished with the previous one. For quite a while, I was writing one book, editing another, and attempting to record an audio version of a third (I have yet to determine whether the audio book is going to work out or not, but I’m giving it a shot).

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Honestly, everything I read influences me in one way or another. Nearly every book, even those that I haven’t particularly enjoyed, has had something that stuck with me. The authors that have influenced me most though are Neil Gaiman and Stephen King, especially his Dark Tower Series. I also get a lot of inspiration from comics and graphic novels. Gaiman’s Sandman really changed the way I think about writing, and Hellblazer is probably my favorite thing to read.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the third book in my series, and slogging my way through what will hopefully turn out to be an audio version of Myths & Music. I also do a weekly blog on my website.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find promotion to be much more challenging than the actual writing. So far, I’ve mostly been using Facebook, but I’m trying to branch out, which is how I ended up here, I guess.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
One trick that I learned recently, that I think many authors might benefit from is the read-aloud feature on Microsoft Word. I find it very difficult to catch typos in my own work. My brain just always reads what I intended to say, rather than what is actually on the page. Having a robot voice read my work to me allows me to find mistakes that I didn’t notice, even after reading through it multiple times.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Neil Gaiman’s “Make Good Art” commencement speech contained the best, and most inspiring, advice I’ve ever heard. I honestly don’t know that I would have had the courage to actively pursue writing, had I not listened to it.

What are you reading now?
Lately, the majority of my reading has been focused on research for my own work. I’ve been reading a lot of books on mythology and different types of magic. I just finished Plant Spirit Wisdom by Ross Heaven, which was really fascinating. As far as reading for enjoyment, I’m pretty much always reading Hellblazer.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would love to think that, one day, I will be able to make a living writing but, for the time being, the goal is to just keep working on the next book in my series.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would definitely bring Gaiman’s American Gods, and the Paul Jenkins and Sean Phillips run of Hellblazer. I would probably also bring David Salisbury’s Witchcraft Activism, and King’s Insomnia.
