April Peter

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written two rhyming bedtime stories named Ann Can’t Sleep and Ann Plays Dress-up, and my partner and I recently published an 11 books series named Like a Girl.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Our 11 books series Like a Girl, which is about introducing young girls with inspiring and importsnt professions.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am a cartoonist by profession, so I “build” my books the way you would create an animated cartoon or a comic book, starting with sketches of the general stories.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been very influenced by Philip Pullman, both his Dar Materials series and his earlier Sally Lockhart Mysteries. I love his way of inserting social issues into juvenile fiction. Our books however are for a much younger audience.

What are you working on now?
Now we’re busy promoting out Like a Girl series, and we have vague plans to follow up with another similar collection.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Booksprout has been very effective for us in getting reviews, which has given our online sales a significant push.

Do you have any advice for new authors?

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Hear everyone out and do what you think.

What are you reading now?
Stephen Fry’s Mythos and Heroes.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d like to write some more stories in verse.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That question is way too cruel 🙂

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written over 30 books for Harlequin’s medical line, plus two nonfiction books. My latest book Cornerstone of Love is my first indy book. I will have two more in the series.
I live in north Georgia with my husband of over 37 years. We have 4 children and 8 grandchildren. I love to travel, sew and of course read.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Cornerstone of Love is the name of my latest book. I arrived at the name because the heroine, Allison is a constructional engineer. The cornerstone is important in a building. If it is off nothing in the building will be correct. It is the same with love. You have to have the correct foundation to make it work.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write character driven books but I usually start with the setting. I ask myself what could happen here. What characters would or wouldn’t like it here?
For some reason my writing process seems to go slightly different with every book.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Linda Howard’s books, Katherine Woodiwiss writing, Carol Burnside, and many more.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on another Harlequin medical story and the second in Modern Masters of Their Castles series. The first book takes place in north Alabama during Christmas. It should be out this year. The second will be out in May.
To say I’m busy is an understatement.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website www.SusanCarlisle.com is the best place to go to find out more about me and my books. All you would ever want to know can be found there.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Finish the book and write another. Without doing so you never have a book. The best two words in a writer’s life is The End.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading Baby, Come Home by Stephanie Bond. She is a great writer. I’m proud to call her friend.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write another book, and another, and another…

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Shanna and Wolf and Dove by Woodiwiss and Best of Europe travel guide by Rick Steves.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
So far I’ve written a total of three books. I’m starting to get the hang of it, and as of now my books tend to be short reads.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Empowerment Mindset. I wrote it because I have often found some people lack passion and motivation in life. I consider myself a highly motivated person, and I always strive to do what I can and to gradually improve myself day by day.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write in sprints. I try to write for as long a period of time as I can until each project is completely finished. I’m still new to writing so if there are any good habits to have I’m open to hearing from your audience about it!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King’s On Writing has influenced me a bit. Also, Stefan James from Project Life Mastery has highly influenced me. My goal is to write at least one bestseller in the Kindle store. I might try out publishing physical books as well, but I’m still learning.

What are you working on now?
Currently I’m working on a book titled Self Improvement Mastery. It’s all about improving oneself day by day.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Honestly, my books so far have not gotten much publicity. I’m hoping that’ll change! I’m going to try promoting it on as many free platforms as possible since I’m a one-woman show at the moment and have a limited budget.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write! Just do it. Start, and don’t stop until you can’t think of what to write anymore. If you do hit the dreaded wall, maybe try free writing or brainstorming.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Time is more valuable than money. At the end of the day, the time we have in our lives is our most valuable asset we have.

What are you reading now?
Currently I’m reading Financial Freedom by Grant Sabatieur. I’m very influenced by the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement as well as the book Rich Dad Poor Dad. I’d like to learn how to become a better entrepreneur and author, and my goal is to be able to do this full time.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write, write, write. And promote my books of course! I’m doing my best to learn about marketing and how to promote my books as an independent self-published author.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. It’s my favorite book of all time.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a science fiction writer, however, I write what ever my brain torments me with. I just love writing stories and entertaining people with all the fantasy worlds or daring adventures my mind comes up with. I love writing poetry about nature or whatever is happening in my life at the moment. Reading books of course, is my favorite pass time but writing stories is my passion and I just released my first novel Wynter Of Wolves. I find a lot of inspiration for my work from my home state of North Carolina. Originally a Tennessee girl, I fell in love with the mountains, the local folklore and the artistic culture of the Blue Ridge Mountains. As a writer I am inspired by my surroundings and my fellow authors and dreamers. Edgar Allan Poe has always been an intriguing poet dear to my heart as well as other poets of the past. I enjoy meeting new authors, book lovers and fans on my social medias. Outside of writing, I love exploring nature, spending time with my family and entertaining my two cats, Ruth and Idgie. I have written at least 3 full novels with only one published so far and the other two will be published soon.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Wynter Of Wolves is my first published novel. It’s official release was 03/20/2020. The inspiration for this novel came from a dream that I had back in 2018. I told my husband about it and he encouraged me to write it. He loved the idea so much that he couldn’t just let me forget about it. So I wrote it down and revisited the idea in 2019 and I fell in love with the character Wynter and his origin story. The story became bigger than I could have ever first imagined it to be. So big in fact a second novel is in the works for Wynter.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if it is unusual but I write with headphones on, streaming a playlist that inspires me to write my characters and special scenes they are in. I like to imagine my stories as movies so I find cinematic music to inspire me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are many books and authors that I have read that have inspired me my whole life. Stephen King, Anne Rice, Edgar Allan Poe, Alfred Hitchcock, Jane Campion, Jane Austin, William Golding, Harper Lee and so many more.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on Wynter Of Wolves: The Seven. It is part two of my newly released novel, Wynter Of Wolves.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are really helpful at getting the word out to bigger audiences. I am new to social medias but I am finding more and more websites that are dedicated to helping self published authors, such as my self, to realize their dreams of seeing their books out in the public.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would say to them to never give up on your dreams. Authors hear a lot of harsh words about their writing style or abilities. Surround your self with authors, friends or family that will encourage you to seek out you dreams.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never allow people’s negativity or negative words to paralyze you. After I heard someone say that, I never allowed anyone to make me feel less than the author that I truly am.

What are you reading now?
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to finish my new novel by the end of the year and I hope to meet new fans at my book signing at the Fan boy expo in Knoxville TN, July 11th. I also have many more novels to come and I am excited to share them with the world.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s a tough one… The Piano by Jane Campion, To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, The society of S. By Susan Hubbard

Blanca De La Rosa

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Blanca De La Rosa, the daughter of immigrants from the Dominican Republic, grew up in the projects of the upper west side of Manhattan in New York, during the time before the Hispanic population developed the supportive Latino community which exists today. Although she struggled without support in her cultural and linguistic transition, De La Rosa was able to graduate from Pace University with a bachelor’s degree in international business management and to establish a successful 34-year career rising through the ranks of a Mobil/ExxonMobil Oil Corporation. I have self-published three books: Empower Yourself for an Amazing Career, Pursuing a Better Tomorrow, and En busca de un mañana mejor.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Pursuing a Better Tomorrow (En busca de un mañana mejor) As an immigrant, we all struggled with learning a new language and acclimating to the weather, fashion, values, and customs of a new culture. At times, these changes were so overwhelming that I wasn’t sure I’d ever fit in. My parents could not help, as they were also struggling to acclimate, and they did not understand or know what it took to get ahead in this new environment. Like many immigrants before them, they were trying to find their place in the land of opportunity. In the 1960s, there was no supportive Latino Community to help with assimilation and ascension within the dominant English-speaking culture. With no one to help ease the difficulties of transition, there was ample opportunity to stumble linguistically and culturally. We made plenty of mistakes along the way.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nothing unusual but I tend to write and edit simultaneously. I write and rewrite many times.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I like to read nonfiction and true crime drama. I would say my most influential book is Gone with the Wind.

What are you working on now?
I recently published Pursuing a Better and am now just publishing articles and blog.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I promote my books on LInkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, BookBuzz, Onlinebooks.net, Jay Digitals, Book Festivals, and other online platforms.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do not rush the process. Think through your plot so that you can keep your readers engaged to the very end. Get both a critique partner and beta reader as each serves a very important role. One can give you professional input while the other can give you a feel for how the average reader will receive your work.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Rachel Maddow’s Blow Out

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will definitely be writing another book but have not yet landed on the genre or topic. I have started a ‘Words to Live By’ short stories in which I use a cliché and pair it with a short story that gets to the wisdom and message of the phrase. I will use these stories in a blog and see how it develops from there.

Editors hate clichés and I agree they have no business in a novel, but I love clichés. They are succinct and get to the heart of the matter and point. For example, the simple cliché ‘”walk a mile in another’s shoes.” Those six words say so much about not being judgmental, coitizing another’s actions and motives, and being more tolerant. I am fascinated by the art of creation, inspiration, empowerment of the written word

Douglas Busby

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a physician and theologian with a longstanding interest in spiritual healing. As a physician (M.D., M.Sc.), specialized in Aerospace Medicine, I wrote the first book on Space Clinical Medicine. As a theologian (D.Min., Ph.D), ordained as a minister and engaged in spiritual healing, I have written four books on spiritual healing, the last two being revisions of the first two.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book (March, 2020) book is entitled “We Can Help God Heal Us.” I have learned much about spiritual healing from personal study, observations and experience of it. Although the practice of spiritual healing shown by Jesus Christ has been distorted and even abandoned down through the centuries, I have also found that his way of spiritual healing still works. Consequently, I have been inspired to write a book that promotes a wider awareness of our being able to help God heal us, by opening minds to the reality of spiritual healing and by providing guidance for spiritual healing as practiced by Jesus Christ.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
None that I’m aware of!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Morton Kelsey, Francis MacNutt, Ron Roth, Larry Dossey, the writers of the Gospels, Marcus Borg, John Dominic Crossan, Bart Ehrman.

What are you working on now?
I am gathering information related to the afterlife, principally from the Holy Bible and various religious writings, and books on and accounts of near-death and out-of-body experiences, past-life and inter-life regressions, and reported spirit communications.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
This question is difficult to answer because sales statistics may not accurately results of individual promotional activities. I have used social media (Facebook and Twitter), and have written several articles for journals and magazines and given lectures based on material in my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write clearly and understandably, and be patient.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Process information with your brain; write with your heart.

What are you reading now?
Material related to the afterlife.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Possibly a book on the afterlife. My inspiration for this project comes from an out-of-body experience during surgery at the age of 5, an out-of-body experience reported to me by a patient whom I revived in medical practice, and a near-death experience reported to me by a patient whom I visited as a hospital chaplain.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Holy Bible, How to Survive on a Deserted Island (Prepare to Survive), Oxford Handbook of Tropical Medicine, Complete Works of William Shakespeare

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an author of both historical fiction and young adult epic high fantasy. At various times, I have welded rails for the railroad, inspected glass in a glass factory, given checks to welfare clients, and programmed micro-code for IBM. I also helped plant a church.

I have written three novels of Christian historical fiction, one of which, The Slaves Of Autumn, is now on preorder with Amazon and being released August 3, 2020.

I have also written The Scepter and Tower Trilogy epic high fantasy series for adults and young adults. Its novella prequel, The Stolen Scroll, was release in March 2020.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
In the fantasy genre, The Stolen Scroll is a novella prequel to The Scepter and Tower Trilogy. I wrote it because the series needed an introduction and because I couldn’t give up the characters.

In the historical fiction genre, The Slaves Of Autumn, to be released August 3, 2020, is my last entry in the three-book series on ancient, Celtic Ireland. I wanted to write one book based entirely in Ireland, and this is it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I often write in the morning then walk my dog after lunch where I mull over plot, dialogue, or structural problems. Then I write some more in the afternoon. Around six o’clock, my dog takes me on another walk, where ideas and solutions again come to me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have read widely in the classics, fantasy, and historical fiction. At one point I read mostly science fiction. Some of my favorite authors are Tolkien, Dickens, Ray Bradbury, Asimov, Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck, Graham Greene, and many more.

What are you working on now?
A World War I historical novel.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use a number of sites.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Plot your book and know your ending and your characters. Know what your protagonist wants, what goal is driving him or her to the end. Once you start writing, finish the book. So many writers never finish.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The one who perseveres is the one who wins.

What are you reading now?
G.J. Meyer’s “A World Undone, The Story Of The Great War” (for research for my next book)

What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing World War I historical fiction.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible. Tolkien’s Lord Of The Rings.

N. A. Davenport

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi there!

I’ve always been a voracious reader. And I’m a fantasy and magic lover at heart. When I was in elementary and middle school, you could usually find me a little apart from the other kids, building imaginary worlds and crafting heroic adventures in my mind. Funnily enough, it took me a long time to realize that other people might enjoy my stories, too.

I have four books written now. And a fifth is coming soon. My first series, Werewolf Max, is about a boy who becomes a zombie-fighting werewolf. My newest series, Fairies of Titania, is about a girl who travels through an enchanted door to the world of fairies.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called The Last Fairy Door. My six-year-old daughter actually inspired it. I asked her one day, “what kind of book do you think I should write now?” And her prompt reply was, “write about a fairy princess!”

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
It’s hard to say what writing habits are “usual” or not. Haha Talking with my other author friends, it seems usual to have a completely messy desk, spend half your time browsing through social media, and drinking a lot of coffee. So I guess my preference for Earl Grey tea over coffee is a bit unusual. And I do my best writing with my fluffy border collie assistant curled up at my feet.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many authors have shaped the way I write! I don’t know if I can narrow it down.

The first book series I fell in love with was the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I literally cried my ten-year-old eyes out when I finished the last book and there weren’t any more.

The next books I fell in love with were the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. The way she wrote her world and her dragons struck me so powerfully. I still love that world today.

When I couldn’t find more of her books, I started devouring every Xanth novel by Piers Anthony that I could find. And there are a lot of them!

I have a lot of other favorite books as well. Pride and Prejudice, Watership Down, everything by C. S. Lewis, The Last Unicorn, The Princess Bride The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, every book in Orson Scott Card’s Enderverse.

What are you working on now?
I’m actually starting on a new series now. I ‘ve finished up writing my Werewolf Max series, and I like having two different stories to work on at the same time. It helps to work on one when I get weary of working on the other.

The new series is called Dragonriders of Avria. And the first book is about a young boy, about fourteen years old, who ends up on an island where humans and dragons work together to fight off a dangerous enemy. It’s kind of like Eragon meets Dinotopia and the Dragonriders of Pern, and I’m super excited to be working on it!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For me, the best way to get sales is to write a series, spend on advertising for the first one, and link to the next in the series at the back of each book. It also helps to have the first chapter in the next book available at the back, so readers can develop an appetite for the next story.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do what it takes to craft an enjoyable story, with a superb cover, and a compelling blurb. Those three things make the book you offer readers worth their hard-earned money.

Would you want to spend time or money on a book with an amateur cover? A boring blurb? Or a story you can’t get into?

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
As far as writing is concerned?

“Don’t be boring.”
-Sherlock Holmes

What are you reading now?
I’m reading Juxtaposition by Piers Anthony. Mr. Anthony was kind enough to read my Werewolf Max series and gave me a very nice review. Since I had only ever read his wildly popular Xanth novels, I decided to give another series of his a try.

While I don’t love it as much as Xanth, I’m still intrigued enough by the storyline to want to stick with it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More books! I love writing and publishing. And I love hearing kids (and adults, too) say how much they love reading my stories.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Blank notebooks so I could write in them. Well, okay, maybe one book about how to survive on a desert island, and two blank notebooks.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written three novels and several short stories that are published on Medium.com.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, Introspectors, was inspired when I began thinking about how mind reading would affect your life. It could make life easy, or it could drive you crazy. How would you deal with knowing what all of your friends and lovers were thinking?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Once I’ve created my characters, I can place them in a scene and let them surprise me. Good characters can write the book themselves. I just have to follow them around and take notes.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I was young, I read all of the Hardy Boys books. I’ve always enjoyed books that can deliver a little humor in even the darkest of moments.

What are you working on now?
I have a sci-fi book that needs an ending. However, I think I’ll work on a sequel to Introspectors. I love the characters and can’t wait until their next adventure.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still in the evaluation stage of several sites.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get some good alpha and beta readers. I’ve found great resources at scribophile.com.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t eat yellow snow.

What are you reading now?
I’m enjoying A Gentleman in Moscow.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d like to work on a series for Introspectors.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?

I have written 5 books at the time of this interview.
