Dennis Smith

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
You can say I’m an “accidental writer.” When I found a book by Viki King called How to Write a Movie in 21 Days: The Inner Movie Method, it changed my life. Much of what I learned about fiction writing I learned from that book. It taught me how to imagine my characters as full human beings and draw plots from how they would act and interact.
I am a songwriter with two previous CDs with my old band Lucky Dogg and I include songs in my current books as well. I have four titles: my first book was a well-received learning program, That’s Smart! How to Improve Learning Habits; I have released two editions and a third is in the works.
Aside from That’s Smart, I wrote two novels: Black on Black, an urban crime thriller set on the streets of the South Side of Chicago; and this year’s How to Commit Suicide, a novel about two people who discover the need to reinvent their lives by “killing off” the hopeless, negative people they used to be. In between, I wrote The 9/11 Project, a musical about the experiences of soldiers and veterans of the War on Terror set against the history of the decade after 9/11, which I’ve since re-written as a stage play suitable for smaller local and college theaters (you can find it at https://lnqr.pub/911project).
Right now, I am working on my second musical, about four friends who are constantly fighting and find out in the end they are stronger together that I hope to release before too long.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is How to Commit Suicide, and it’s inspired by a series of dreams in which three friends I lost to suicide came to me, separately, asked I tell their story. My goal with the book is to pass on the idea that if your life starts to seem hopeless, the best answer is always to reinvent your life—metaphorically “kill off” the negative you so the new, positive you can shine.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I really don’t know many other writers, so I can’t say how unusual I am! But when I write I like to keep an endless supply of water and apple juice handy.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy. I also love stories like The Promise of a Pencil by Adam Braun; these stories really affect me!

What are you working on now?
A musical about four friends who are constantly fighting and find in the end that they are stronger together.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My partner Tony and I are still learning that—we hope for good things from Awesomegang.com!—and learning to be very careful because of the many scam marketers out there waiting to prey on indie authors!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write with a purpose.
Write because you have to.
Write with substance.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Make sure that you love it, then they will love it!”

What are you reading now?
Mindf*ck: Cambridge Analytica And The Plot To Break America by Christopher Wylie. A frightening expose by a former employee of Cambridge Analytica on the terrifying ways the new social media has been and still is being used against us.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Like I answered before, I’m finishing up a musical musical about four friends who are constantly fighting and find out in the end that they are stronger together. After that, I’m planning a memoir about my mother and her fascinating life in Hammond.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would say: A Thomas Merton compilation, The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum, a biography of Abraham Lincoln, and The Life of Chopin by Franz Liszt.

Christopher Keast

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a writer in the early hours, a renewable energy engineer during the daytime hours, and a writer/musician at night. Never a dull moment. I now live in rural Ontario, Canada after living in Southern California, Toronto, Vancouver and various other places throughout my life. Things are settling down for me – able to focus more on writing.

I recently finished and self-published my first full-length novel, Datapocalypse, which is a speculative/sci-fi with dystopian and dark humour sprinklings. Based on the excellent feedback I’ve getting, it sounds like there’s a sequel in the near future.

In addition, I’ve written a 25,000-word novella called The Fulcrum, two short-stories: one sci-fi called Eye For Ego and one literary fiction story called Spark of a Thought. Most recently, I’ve completed the manuscript on another novella called BeLeaf.

These works were completed all within the last two and half years. Prior to that, all I’d written was lyrics to songs and closet poetry. So, you could say I’ve been a busy boy.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Let me focus on Datapocalypse since it’s the most polished and, in my opinion, the most extravagant. This story is very difficult to describe in few words, but I’ll try here: it’s about love, data and the end of the world (the Amazon book description does a great job at elaborating on this).

It was inspired while traveling in Italy and Greece a few years back and being overwhelmed by people taking so many pictures from their phones. I began to wonder if anyone actually looks at things – especially ones of such ancient beauty – with their eyes! So I began saying: what would happen if these things just started disappearing? Then I pondered a theory about how data, although virtual, actually does take up space and energy in the world, and is thus finite. Marrying these concepts together yielded a funny, mysterious, adventurous and dystopian story that became Datapocalypse.

My wife, 4-year old daughter and I made an excellent book trailer describing how the idea came to be and eventually became a book. I made the soundtrack for it as well, including the yet-to-be hit single, Datapocalypse.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Writing pre-sunrise is not for everyone. But it’s when my mind is most fresh and un-inundated with daily poundings of information and stimuli.

A little pre-meditation always helps, coupled with caffeine indulgence.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Aldous Huxley
Noam Chomsky
Ayn Rand
George Orwell
Hermann Hesse
Ernest Hemingway
Lucius Annaeus Seneca

What are you working on now?
I just finished the manuscript for BeLeaf, a speculative fiction story about artificial leaves and trees. I’m going to let it percolate for a few weeks before revisiting.

In the meantime, I’m pondering a sequel to Datapocalypse – although I didn’t realize the world could end twice. A writer must appease their fans (if they’re lucky enough to have any).

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve had a difficult time marketing my stories, owing mainly to my aversion to social media. Despite the number of articles read on the subject – hours upon hours of research – I’ve yet to find the right stride. But ideas are continually brewing, and I will eventually become more proficient in some avenue.

I’ve heard that the best way to promote your books, if you’re not into social media, is developing a website and gathering an email list to continuously build your platform. Perhaps easier said than done.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write first, market later. The amount of self-publishing and book marketing information on the Internet can be overwhelming, so don’t worry about that until you need to.

Finish your manuscript. Self-edit your manuscript. Get it beta-read. Make some adjustments. Get it copy-edited. Then figure out your next steps.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s hard to discount any advise giving by the one and only Stephen King. One of my faves:
“What should you write about? Anything, as long as it’s the truth.” After all, he is Le Roi.

Another piece of advice, perhaps more broad and generalized, came from a yoga instructor my wife and I used to practice with on the cliffs of Pacific Beach overlooking the ocean. “The way you do anything, is the way you do everything” – NamaSteve.

What are you reading now?
Antifragile by Nassem Nicholas Taleb. A far cry from the fiction that I write, but indeed a subject people should know more about.

Letters from a Stoic by Seneca

What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep promoting Datapocalypse; keep entering story contests and literary magazine/site submissions for my short stories; traditional publishing house submissions for The Fulcrum.

But what’s really tickling me right now is the begin work on the sequel to Datapocalypse.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

Island by Aldous Huxley :)))

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have only written one book. But hopefully plan to write more on the challenges of love and dating in New York City. I think a lot of people can relate to this topic, with all the craziness of New York City it’s hard to have a so-called “normal relationship.” I’d like to explore more what normal is for New York Singles and have fun discovering this ever changing journey!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
40 Single NYC is my first book. My friend asked me why I was still single at my age? She meant well, but it really stung being judged. I wanted to write about how I felt and why being single at my age was viewed as a failure? During this process of fictionalizing my encounters, I came to personal conclusions and discoveries I wanted to share with people possibly going through the same experience.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have many, other than writing about scenarios that come to instantly, and then re-arrange them all to create a story.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Salinger. I love how he really captures a New York feel to his stories through his conversational story telling and emotionally visual descriptions.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a script a wrote a few years ago about my earlier experiences in New York.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“A life lived in fear… is a life half-lived.” Baz Luhrmann

Salinger, Franny and Zooey

Team Golfwell and Bruce Miller, B.A., J.D. are bestselling authors and have published over 35 books on various subjects. Their books have won awards and they have had several #1 bestsellers in Golf Coaching, Children’s Sports Coaching, Sports Humor, and other categories. They live in New Zealand.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Brilliant Screen-Free Stuff To Do With Kids: A Handy Reference for Parents & Grandparents! We, like everyone else, understand people have great concerns right now economically, so we decided to offer it as a free download for 5 days beginning Thursday, April 2, 2020, until April 6, 2020.

We began writing this book several months ago since we got tired of kids sitting and doing games on their screens. We researched if this was healthy and learned the American Academy of Pediatrics (which is probably today’s best authority on what’s good for kids) has gone on record saying children need a balance between screen time and other healthy activities. We planned to write this book before there ever was any Covid 19 issues.

We just finished the book when the Covid 19 virus started and recently published it. We thought this might be a great reference for families who are shut in at home as there are a lot of indoor and backyard fun games.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
No method of promotion other than to write a high-quality book that readers enjoy.

What are you reading now?
We review books for other authors on a regular basis as we enjoy reading and see innovations which other authors are doing. We encourage all to join in reviewing books as we find it worthwhile.

Markus Horner

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an eleventh-grade high school dropout. I even failed high school English class. But I have written two books and working on a third one about “True Self-confidence, Sel-esteem, and self-efficacy” right now. I was an op-ed columnist for the Dallas Morning News for a couple of years. I have written more articles for other people’s books, newspapers, magazines, and online than I can even remember. I have accomplished more feats in my life than most people will ever achieve covering a wide range of topics. I am the classic overachiever.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book that I am currently working on does not have an official title as of yet. It is still in production. I was goaded into doing it by my copy-editor, and now I am glad he did. I will be trying to help people to know how to increase their levels of self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-efficacy. These are such incredibly important topics for anyone to become a truly successful adult that it needed a book dedicated to just those subjects.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know that it is unusual. But I write exactly the way I talk. I have had it described when you are reading anything that I have written as feeling like I am sitting across the breakfast table talking to you in person. It is a very conversational style. I do not try to be grandiloquent with my writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?

What are you working on now?
As I said above, I am working on a book about self-confidence. I am also working on a series of children’s books. Each book will be written with a dual purpose. 1) To teach the reader something about a country that they are not familiar with. 2) To teach the reader some type of trait-like quality. Such as: courtesy, manners, respect, responsibility, and on and on.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method is sheer and total persistence. I never give up. I am always looking for new opportunities to showcase my books. This could be on-line or at a book signing at a local bookstore or at a PTO or PTA meeting or in front of a group of parents.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
“PERSISTENCE”. If you believe in yourself then don’t let anyone dissuade you from moving forward.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It was something that Winston Churchill said when I was at a boy’s school on October 29, 1941. ( Ok , so I wasn’t there. But it sounded good at the time) He said, “Never, never, never, never Give up.” I DON”T!

What are you reading now?
I’m not much of a reader of other people’s works.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To continue to expand my business and provide the highest level of content that I can.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Nothing come to mind immediately

Dr Justin Thyme

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I, Dr Justin Thyme, am the Author of more than 16,000 poems and haikus on the topic of Chiropractic Therapy and Founder of the Total Life Coach Institute of Indianapolis. I am a 7-time recipient of the ‘Most Students Billed in a Financial Year’ Award at the prestigious Amoral Life Coach Gala Event in Paris, France. I have selflessly authored several, critically self-acclaimed, self-help books which have reached the top best-sellers book list on Amazon for up to 6 minutes at a time (Mississippi counting).

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest Opus, ‘Spiritual Eating’, was inspired by my research into the entire universe over the last 65 years of my life and the last 7 years of my previous life as David Attenborough’s pet cat, Sir Rupert Basthingwaite, II.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
As a leading authority on writing and most things that exist, I have transcended all forms of ‘habit’. I simply exist, moment to moment. My only hope is that I can teach others how to live like me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Future me. He is my idol, my inspiration. His book, which I have not written yet, will surely come to be known as colossus epics that shown a light into the very inner depths of our souls.

What are you working on now?
Currently unemployed, but hoping to pick up some day work as an ‘odd job’ type of guy. Thankfully, my Mum and Dad don’t charge me any rent at the moment, but for my 50th bday next week maybe I’ll move out, don’t know.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I send out vibrations during my daily meditations, seems to work best in terms of sales.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would highly recommend that you read each and everyone of best selling books and then, if you don’t despair too much after seeing their genius, I would think it best that you try to emulate my writings, word for word if necessary

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Dr JT, you are quite possibly the greatest, most decent human being famous person that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

What are you reading now?
I’m still learning how to read, it takes time.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am thinking of writing a fantasy adventure trilogy. My working title is ‘Lord of the Rings’.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well I’ve only written 3 books so I’d need to think of the fourth one..

Kellman Heinz

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Growing up feral I never thought I never thought I would be able to communicate with anything more than grunts, let alone write an entire book!
But here I am, having just published my very first book, my Magnum Dopus. Its beginnings were very humble. The very first chapter was written entirely with raccoon dung along the walls of my cave. And look at it now! Published by the most illustrious and exclusive book publisher in the entire world, Amazon!
If I can do it, you can do it too, Kids!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I Will Light You On Fire: Live Forever or Your Money Back

I wanted a book title that would be funny and informative. Lighting you on fire is at once a metaphor for inspiring people to undertake their own health journey, and at the same time a joke about how I might actually light them on fire (which is purportedly not so good for one’s health).

I chose the subtitle “Live Forever or Your Money Back” because it communicates the real possibility of extending our lifespans, while at the same time poking fun at the whole health movement, which due to the inevitability of death, sometimes seems like an exercise in futility.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well, like I said, the first chapter was originally written in raccoon faeces. But I don’t know if that counts as unusual, because I know at least a handful of authors who do the same thing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite authors are Emerson and Hesse. These two are the OG of hard-hitting thoughts transmitted through beautiful prose.

What are you working on now?
Trying to get people to read this book. I’ve tried hiding it under the pillows of strangers, shouting excerpts from the rooftops, tying miniaturized versions to the feet of messenger pigeons, the works. It’s pretty rough going though. Us sensitive artist types weren’t made for the world of advertising.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Threatening to unfriend my Facebook contacts if they don’t leave a review.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Really think it through and decide early on what purpose you want this book to serve.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Do not ask who will let you, but rather who will stop you.” – Ayn Rand

“Sexual healing is something that is good for you.” – Marvin Gaye

What are you reading now?
A comic book written in Chinese, it takes me about 20 minutes per page.
I still can’t get over that you read it from right to left. I’ve been reading it for weeks and I still open the book on the wrong side. xD

What’s next for you as a writer?
Well, if the experiences of my fellow writers are any indication, probably suicide.
No, I am just kidding, that is a crude joke, sorry.
I will probably take a break from writing for a while – writing a book is a seriously long, brutal process. Actually, the writing was the easiest part. I’ll be glad when this is all done.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
2 on survival, 1 on ship making, and Fifty Shades of Gray (for toilet paper).

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Paul Koshik. I live in Bulgaria and speak English with a Scottish accent.
For twelve years now, I’ve been engaged in everything that is connected with words. I work as a journalist and I’ve written more than 700 articles for all sorts of publications including MAXIM, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Cosmopolitan, and Playboy magazines. However, I’ve always dreamed of being a fiction writer…
I’ve written two books so far and now working on the third one.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called The Best Shot Stories to Read on the Toilet. But, please, don’t let that name repel you. This book is suitable for reading anytime, anywhere and, in fact, has nothing to do with the toilet. It’s just that, unfortunately, we are now living in a world where fashion, hype, and trends decide everything. People will click the “like” button and write about the book on social media only if it’s hyped or catchy. The creation of a “toilet” collection is my last attempt to reach out to humanity and bring high-quality literature to readers with the help of very very very stupid but catchy cover and title.
This book was actually inspired by my depression 🙂

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I write only when no one’s watching.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King, A Hero of Our Time by Mikhail Lermontov, The Psychopathology of Everyday Life by Sigmund Freud

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a sci-fi space novel called A Girl with Emerald Hair

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Reddit promotion helped a lot, also Amazon KDP free book promotion.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Wash your hands before eating

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Wash your hands before eating

What are you reading now?
Gone with the wind by Margaret Mitchell

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully, world fame.

Denise Richardson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Well, considering my less than auspicious childhood, I’ve had a pretty eclectic set of careers. I hold a degree in nursing, and two diplomas in business and finance. I’ve been a Police Officer, Nurse and International Business Executive and sat on three corporate boards. I’m also a qualified coach in Success Principles and in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This is my first book and probably the hardest thing I’ve ever accomplished.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book is entitled, Cruel: One Child’s Journey To Survive.

It is inspired by my childhood which, ironically, was not all inspiring. It was during a time when there was huge social upheaval and children did not have the rights they now enjoy in most countries.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Like Winston Churchill, I like to work in bed. However, I don’t smoke cigars.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been a self-help, psychology junkie for decades. Authors like Jack Canfield, Viktor Frankl, Dan Pink and Daniel Goldman have been major influencers amongst many more.

What are you working on now?
I’m structuring my next book which will have at its foundation the reasons fear governs so much of our lives and how it robs us of logic, opportunity and influences our decision making.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use a variety of methods but it seems that Amazon and Goodreads are the foremost influencers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m pretty new at this myself and so if I was to offer any advice it would be to get a good copywriter and find people to critically review your book before you publish – both are invaluable.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Remember: you have choice in all things, no matter your circumstances there are always options.

What are you reading now?
The history of Scotland.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing my next book and spending more time public speaking.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?

Christopher Bodmann

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a new writer. The Goodwin Chronicles is my first work, though I have another I’m preparing to drop and a third (a series) in the works. I’m a dad and really love the opportunity to inspire kids with my writing.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Goodwin Chronicles: Legends of Traumwelt was inspired by my own family. We visited my wife’s family in England (they live at Caynton House) and the whole place just brought this story out of me.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unusual? Not really. Goodwin Chronicles was written almost exclusively on my mobile phone – which I suppose is kind of unusual.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many! Shakespeare, of course. Toni Morrison. Neil Gaiman. Nick Hornby. Christopher Moore.

Books that have influenced me are the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series, A Wrinkle in Time, Harry Potter series, and fairy tales.

What are you working on now?
I’m finishing up a middle grade sci fi book called Harvest Season, which is a story about an incredibly smart girl growing up in poverty in a near future America. Her life has been shattered – her older sister died from a flu pandemic, her father suffered a traumatic brain injury, and her mother abandoned the family. She believes her station in life is set at the bottom, but when she finds her sister in an abandoned factory – still the same age as when she died – she discovers that she is the only hope to save humanity from an ancient alien civilization bent on taking over planet Earth.

After that, I’m working on a superhero book series for middle graders. It will start in 6th and go through 8th grades.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I wish I had one. I’m new to this whole process. Amazon makes the publishing so easy – and offers lots of promotional options. But I think social media ads will be the most effective route. Time will tell.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
As a new author myself, I can just say keep going. This is a long slog. Think about publishing your book as an entrepreneur and I think you will have the right mindset.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Happiness is a choice. I try to live that everyday.

What are you reading now?
I’ve been moving through The Story Grid by Shawn Coyne. I just finished the One and Only Ivan, by K.A. Applegate.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep going. Publish Harvest Season. Finish the next book. Then the next. And the next. Must. Keep. Writing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Not a book, but Hamlet (or complete works of Shakespeare)
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
Dante’s Divine Comedy

Steve Bode

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written one book, but have been writing for many years. I’ve also been posting short quips about life, and the pursuits of happiness on social media for many years.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Enlightened Master Seeks Apprentice. The premise is that future me is writing to let me know what I’m doing wrong in the present time, in order to get where ‘he’ has gotten.
I have always had big dreams, but I felt like I was spinning my wheels. It occurred to me that if the person I really wanted to be were to suddenly appear, he could pull me up to where I should be. So I created that person.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have learned when I am mentally at my best. For me it’s around 6pm, before I’ve eaten dinner. Dinner makes me sleepy, so I’ll have something very light to eat, have a cup of coffee, and add a few brain enhancing additives to really get me in a groove. I also have colored lights in my home that I can control with my phone. I set them to ‘sunset’ so I get a very cozy warm feeling. I set a timer for 25 minutes and I crank out as many words as I can, until the bell rings, and then I walk around and do something else for a few minutes, then start over.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I listen to about 300 books a year. I’ve been doing this for over two years, and it has completely and utterly changed my life. So, to answer the question, there is too many to list. The average person has 70,000 thoughts a day; 98% of which are the same as you had yesterday. As an experiment, I wanted to get to the inverse ratio. And listening to books is a way of constantly inflowing new ideas into my mind.
The coffee additives I mentioned above are from David Asprey’s books.

What are you working on now?
I working on two new books. One will be the outline of course that will give the reader step by step actions they can do to get their mind ready to take on big life goals, whether that is starting a new career, mastering a new hobby, or making a million dollars.
I’m also working on a fictional book that walks through a persons memory as he recalls past lives and the lessons he learns from each.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon.com and Pubby.com for promoting.
More importantly SelfPublishingSchool.com gives you the step by step from rough draft to becoming a best seller.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The habit of writing is vastly more important that the quality or quality of your writing.
Make it a habit to write at the same time every day, and build on that. Start with an incredible easy target to start. Write five words the first day, as an example, and add to that every day. Maybe you add 10 words every day. That makes getting the habit in place so easy that anyone can do it. Anybody and everybody can find the time to write 5 words. After a month you are writing 150 words on that day, but have a total of 2,325. And it starts to build from there pretty easily now that the habit is in place. You could even accerlate that by adding an exponential factor. Maybe each night you write 1% more instead of 5 words more.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
This doesn’t really answer the question but it’s relevant. I very often her the question, what is the one book I should read to….
Even if there was ‘one book’ you still need to read as many as you can so you get a reference point. If there was one magical sentence in that one book, that if you read, it would change your life forever, you wouldn’t fully get that understanding until you’ve read the entire book. The same goes for books. The more you read or take in, the more the really significant things will stand out for you, or you’ll make some new creative connection between facts that you will never ever see, if you only read ‘one book’.

What are you reading now?
Right now I’m going through all the books I’ve ever listened to again. I’m currently on Elon Musks’ biography. I go through a book ever other day, so by the time you read this I’ve already moved on.
The human mind can understand 700 words per minute, but we talk at around 100. When listening to books, I turn up the speed as much as I can and still understand it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My goal is to change the world. I have an called Get Nudged that will start to help, and the books mentioned above. I also am working on a device to help clean small to medium sized bodies of water of toxins, and a pretty sound idea of a magnetic car.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I am gonna cheat a little and say the Encyclopedia.

Graceann Barrett

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I AM TAMRA is my first complete novel, and I am currently writing the next book that picks up where this one leaves off.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I feel that writing and acting are very much connected, and sometimes I have to actually get on the floor and crawl, or sit on a bench and stand, or fall backward from a blow to the face in order to know how I will describe it in my writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I first read George Orwell’s 1984, I knew that if I were to ever write a fiction novel, this would be the model. Since then, books like Hugh Howey’s Silo series, Cory Doctorow’s Walkaway, and anything by Ursula LeGuin have been strong influencers in the way I incorporate my politics into my writing and the way I give away information.

What are you working on now?
The second book in the SkyWorld series, as well as a short story about when the mass extinction of animals turns us to grading and eating one another instead of giving up our habit of meat and dairy consumption.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Kindlepreneur.com and his YouTube videos have been essential for me as a first-time self-publisher.

Do you have any advice for new authors?

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stephen King’s, ON WRITING. The whole book is amazing.

What are you reading now?
I just finished THE GRACE YEAR by Kim Liggett, and will probably turn back to my queue of Ursula LeGuin unless I find a new speculative fiction book to devour.

What’s next for you as a writer?

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A COMPLETE GUIDE TO ISLAND FORAGING, SURVIVAL TIPS ON A DESERT ISLAND, and EMERGENCY MEDICAL SELF-CARE.
