Elise H. Ford

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a mother of two young children, a wife, a hufflepuff, a weirdo, and a dork. My imagination runs wild and helps me to write. I have three books published right now and three more that I’m currently writing.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Sea Savior (The Lunafriya Chronicles Book 3). I finally finished my mermaid romance series! My love of mermaids and anything aquatic inspired me to write this series.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nope, not really. I’m a pantser writer, so I don’t know what’s going to happen in my books until I write it.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Karina Halle is a big inspiration to me. Her Experiment In Terror series was amazing!

What are you working on now?
I have three books that I’m currently writing. Creats, an all-ages fantasy novel so my kids, nieces and nephews can read my work. Also a paranormal romance called The Midnight Hour. It’s a ghostly romance! My books tend to be very steamy!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook and Twitter are my main sites that I promote on.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing! And don’t look at your reviews if you are sensitive!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Remember why you started. It’s on a coaster that I got from my Scribbler subscription box but it really hit a cord with me.

What are you reading now?
Heartbroken by a Hunter by L.P. Dillion. I took a little break from reading so I could finish writing my mermaid series.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully to become a full-time writer!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Dark House by Karina Halle, any two of the Harry Potter books, The White Dragon by Anne Mccaffery.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
To date I have written 3 standalone novels: Half a Person, Cookies and Double Bad Things. I am also working on a new series of crime/vigilante justice thrillers, based around Acid Vanilla, a sharp-tongued professional killer, who is is trying to escape a past that won’t let her go. I have written the first 2 books in the series (Out in Spring/Summer 2020) plus a prequel that will be released to my newsletter at the same time as book 1.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Acid Vanilla was inspired by my daughter being born in many ways. I realised I wanted to write something with a female lead that she could be proud to be associated with when she was older. I set out to create a strong character who was layered, a little broken, a modern anti-hero and also a woman but her sex not being an integral part of the character.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really, unless you count writing notes on my phone in the middle of the night.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Bukowski, Elmore Leonard, Hubert Selby Jnr, John Niven, Irvine Welsh, Robert Crais, Chuck Palahniuk. The list goes on….

What are you working on now?
The Acid Vanilla series. I plan on releasing the first 3 novels plus the sequel in 2020.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m just finding my feet with using methods other than social media to promote my books. But Awesome Gang seems like, well, an awesome gang to work with…

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep writing. Try to stay in the moment with it until it’s finished, then worry about what happens next. You can’t market half a book so get the damn thing written before you think about anything else. And write what you love. If you don’t love what you do, its going to be a slog.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Bukowski, when asked his advice on someone trying to be a writer… ‘Don’t try.’ I think that’s important to remember. Its about the doing first and foremost. You can call yourself a writer all you want, but writing is a verb not a noun. And action is the only thing that gets a book finished.

What are you reading now?
The Warehouse by Rob Hart

What’s next for you as a writer?
As above, launching and promoting my new Acid Vanilla series.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a lightworker, wayshower, and a channeler of extraterrestrials and universals. I’ve channeled 5 books and written one solo. The 5 books are focused on what’s going on on our planet now, in these “end of times,” which are actually the beginning of a new Age of Aquarius.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Earth Awakening – I know there are a lot of people who aren’t on to my work yet, who aren’t hearing my messages so I created one for free for people to experience at no cost to themselves.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I channel my work.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have read all my life. From at age 11, reading, “Chariots of the Gods,” by von Daniken, through my entire life reading about spirituality with all the favourites like “Seat of the Soul,” “The 4 Agreements.” I particularly like Sanaya Roman’s books as she channels Orin, who imparts a lot of spiritual knowledge as well as knowledge in how to use your psychic gifts.

What are you working on now?
I’m channeling a book with Ashtar Sheran that will cover the next 50 years of life on earth.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far it’s been talking to people, having followers and I’ve used Facebook but I doubt that’s my best option since I’m being shadow banned and trolled heavily there.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep at it. Live your dream.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I believe the best is yet to come.

What are you reading now?
I have so many books in my kindle it’s not funny anymore. I have one I’m trying to start by Cyndi Dale on Subtle Energy techniques. I have Atlantis by Edgar Cayce. I’m finishing up “Shine Forth, the Soul’s Magical Destiny,” by William A. Meader.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Who knows? Providing information is the goal.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d create my own.

Kolein Carlson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is my first book: Another Day to Love – Sunday Morning Ramblings. It took me until I was 50 years old to say out loud, “I am a writer.” Jane Austen and I are born on the same day. She’s my much older soul sister! This little known fact didn’t actually have anything to do with my book. However, it just tickles me that it’s true!

At the age of six, I began writing poetry, prose, and short stories underneath her bed. Bits of scrap paper, spiral notebooks and journals filled with words traveled with me. They very rarely made it outside for anyone to see. Writing meant hiding.

Then one day over 40 years later I decided to share a poem with a nice online poetry community in Lebanon, the country. They published it on their website. Then, they published another one. By this time, my life had crumbled. With the help of a few friends who read my Sunday ramblings each week on Facebook, I began to heal. I didn’t know I was healing, just like I didn’t know I was writing a book. Until, one day in August of 2019, I was done rambling. Six years later, my first book, Another Day to Love, was published on the Winter Solstice 2019.

This book is based on my real life, in the moment. It took me until the age of 50 to acknowledge that I am a writer. Once I found my voice I decided to listen to it and write.

Besides being an author, I am an artist and counselor with my own private practice, facilitating groups, workshops, and speaking engagements. I am the founder of an organization called FreeToFindPearls, which assists people in finding their pearls in life. I’m also a singer/songwriter performing alongside my husband of 20+ years. Our teenage sons join us occasionally. Besides music, art and people I LOVE nature. Hiking is my inspiration!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Another Day to Love began as the musings of one woman and her broken heart. After being rejected and slandered by 250 of her former church friends, Kolein found her voice through her pen. With Sundays now free, she began to examine religion, love, true communion, friendship and the voices in her head and heart. Through these words, all of them written at the moment on dozens of Sunday mornings – never planned out – simply Kolein and her morning cup of coffee sitting in front of her laptop – she allowed the voice within her to speak. Nearly all of her ramblings were shared on social media over the course of 6+ years. The words, written as a list, often include the goings-on of her sweet family life with her husband, their two sons, their art and music, their pain and joy. Each list ends with the same words: “It’s Sunday. Another day to love. Happy Sunday.” This is her first book. However, she has several others that exist in her mind and laptop waiting to be released. Her hope is that at the very least you, the reader, will find a piece of yourself in her words. If you do, please let her know. She is truly honored that you are here. You can reach out to her at freetofindpearls@gmail.com. Kolein is available for counseling, speaking engagements, workshops, singing performances and book signings worldwide.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing tools are a nicely sharpened pencil and a notebook. I was told by a screenwriter friend that it was unusual to see my works handwritten. He thought it was a lost art. However, typing is the bomb!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Carl Jung, Plato,

What are you working on now?
My next book will be a book of poetry. After that, I have two novels dangling in the air waiting to land. This spring I’ll be traveling to England to do research for one of those novels. It’s been 10+ years in the making!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have no best method at the moment. This process is all very new to me. Any suggestions would be very helpful!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Since I am a new author I will offer this: Write and never stop! My older brother told me that. It meant so much to me. It’s my inspiration.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write and never stop! (see above) Also, Anne Lamott said we all have a story. It’s our story. Go and tell it. So I am.

What are you reading now?
Several books are always available on my bedside table. This week it is Thomas Merton’s Daily Meditations and New Seeds of Contemplation, also Anne Lamott’s Small Victories, Aletheia Luna and Mateo Sol’s The Spiritual Awakening and my book, Another Day to Love – Sunday Morning Ramblings. These books are chosen partly for research, inspiration and also a book club I facilitate each month.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My first EVER book launch party is happening in March 2020. We are working on flyers and gifts, food and music, advertising and books. It’s very exciting!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Ohh…probably Pride and Prejudice, Love Poems from God, Essays and Poems by Ralph Waldo Emerson and some herbal/natural remedy book, emphasis on desert flora and fauna!

Laurie Boulden

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi. It is lovely to be here. I am a creative sort of person. As a teacher, I love to make learning active and engaging for my students. As an author, I capture bits and pieces of my imagination and spill them across pages of paper and files on my computer. As a photographer, I see colors and shapes and beautiful people with lives that have been lived. Stories are so important to us. We learn and grow and become through stories. Classics such as Lord of the Rings and Pride and Prejudice are my favorites to read. I’ve gobbled up all the books I can and now I get to write and publish my own.
I am on my fourth published book. The first book is Flood: A Wife for Shem. The story of creation and the flood is familiar to most of us. This story brings to life what is covered in the first few chapters of the Bible.
My next release is Weighed Down. Avery thinks her weight keeps her from serious relationships. It’ll take the right man and a little Christmas magic to teach her otherwise. This book will have you laughing and crying.
Last summer, my third novel released, Hidden Gems. Kathryn’s sister called for help, but by the time Kathryn arrives, her sister is missing. With the body count rising and jewel thieves in the area, she’ll need all the help she can get from Sargent Franklin.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The newest release is Jewel of Jericho, Rahab’s Story. Strong female characters in the Bible are not easy to find. The ones who are there are bent and broken, just like many of us today. Jewel is the first of the series The Fruit of Her Hands. As we read this remarkable love story, we realize all of us have been called by God. All of us have gifts and talents to be used for His glory.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to write at night. Problem is, I usually have to be up and at work by seven in the morning. Many days I am dragging myself from bed and using caffeine to help me get started. Strangely, by the end of the day, I’m ready and eager to get back to whatever it is I am working on.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Geek alert! I am a HUGE Tolkien fan. I love the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I appreciate the Silmarillion for the depth it brings to Tolkien’s Middle Earth Universe. Next would be the Narnia series. I’ve been sneaking into the wardrobe since I was a little girl. A few summers ago I got to stand beside the CS Lewis Wardrobe Statue in Belfast. Crazy excited!
There are some more traditional things on my list, or should we say classical? I love Jane Austin and Louisa May Alcott.

What are you working on now?
My current project is multiple. The Fruit of Her Hands will include a novel about Ruth (spoiler, she marries Rahab’s son, how exciting is that?) and then Esther. I have another romantic suspense called The Maxwell Murders that will be releasing this year. More to come, once I have these three in the bucket.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am finding there isn’t one best anything. The world of publishing and promoting books changes rapidly. I’ve had success with Pinterest, although I’m not really sure how that works. We know Amazon is important, and it takes lots of reviews to get the notice we want. I wish I had someone like Oprah Winfrey in my pocket. She is an amazing woman and people trust her picks.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Reviews matter. Quality writing and good editing matter. Don’t expect overnight success (so if it comes, you can celebrate all the more). Expect to love writing and feel blessed when your story moves the world.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From Tolkien (remember, I said I was a geek): The story-maker proves a successful ‘sub-creator’. He makes a secondary world which your mind can enter. Inside it, what he relates is ‘true’; it accords with the laws of that world. You therefore believe it, while you are, as it were, inside. The moment disbelief arises, the spell is broken; the magic, or rather art, has failed.

What are you reading now?
Textbooks in preparation for the summer and fall semesters. I look forward to summer (even spring break) when I can dive into something a bit more pleasing.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have the heart of a fantasy writer. That will come to life soon, I am certain.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Once again, Tolkien geek. I would want the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Swan Song is another book I love. Then, as in Jill Walsh’s Green Book, I’d have to have a blank book to write the adventure down.

David Beckler

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is David Beckler and I live in Manchester, UK. I’m an ex-firefighter and now run a sunglasses import business. Anyone who knows Manchester’s reputation as ‘Rainy city’ will recognise the challenge I face. I’ve been writing for eight years and I’ve published two novellas and two novels in the Mason & Sterling series of crime thrillers. These feature Adam Sterling and Byron Mason, two ex-Royal Marines. Adam is a firefighter – easy research for me – and Byron runs a security company.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Profit Motive was inspired by my business trips to Wenzhou, an industrial city in Southern China.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I listen to the sound of thunderstorms when I write. I live in a busy city and use my own sounds to cut out the noise from outside.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Graham Greene – his ability to describe a person with a few words is something I strive to do.
James Lee Burke, Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin, Robert Crais and Lee Child are writers I admire in my genre.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on the third Mason & Sterling novel and a short story anthology with 11 other writers in my genre.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve had greatest success with Bookbub but you’re not guaranteed a slot and it’s not cheap.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every day.
Find a supportive but challenging writing group.
Recognise good advice and take it, but don’t emulate other writers.
Be prepared for knock-backs and don’t give up.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Rather than setting writing targets, make writing a habit, and you’re more likely to stick at it.

What are you reading now?
Dead Lions by Mick Herron – it’s the second of the Slough House novels. I’ve read three others and enjoyed them hugely.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have another series I want to develop, I’ve written the first and plotted three more. They feature a female protagonist and would stand alongside the Stieg Larsson trilogy.
I also have a historical series set in the 1930s I want to write.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I assume books on how to survive and escape from a desert island wouldn’t be allowed.
The Cornish Trilogy by Robertson Davies – I know it’s a trilogy but is in one volume.
Robinson Crusoe – the first ‘grown up’ book I remember reading.
Ulysses by James Joyce – I’ve never got past page 6 but if I’ve got nothing else to read I might finish it.

Tiffani Goff

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Loving Tiara is my first book. I’m a law school graduate but I stayed at home to care for my three girls, one of which had serious special needs. Caring for Tiara was my great life accomplishment. While caring for her I started a blog, tiffani goff at home, that I still continue to write. I’m an interior decorator, chronic volunteer and need to be busy at all times or I get depressed. I’ve been married to my husband Lou for 28 years. Tabitha, our oldest daughter is 27 and our youngest daughter, Trinity is a senior in high school. I eat super healthy 90% of the time and the other 10% you will find me consuming donuts, cookies or cupcakes. I love gardening, home improvement, my family and dogs.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I wrote Loving Tiara in honor of my 50th birthday. I had been talking about writing a memoir for years and had never sat down and done it. As my birthday approached, I realized it would be the perfect gift to myself and Tiara to commemorate being half a century old. So I finally took the plunge or rather plopped my butt down at my desk and started writing. My goal was to have it self-published on October 27 in honor of Tiara’s 21st birthday, but I had to revise my time table for the sake of the book. I needed three more weeks for editing, and I published it on November 20, 21019. It took me nine months to complete because I often worked twelve hour days. Once I start a project, I become obsessed, which is why I was able to finish so quickly. I’m proud of the final product, and I hope you enjoy reading Loving Tiara.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have any unusual writing habits. When I wrote my book I set a deadline for myself so I would need to write ten or more hours a day.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I don’t consider myself an actual author but more of a communicator who puts their thoughts onto paper. That being said I like books that make me think, make my laugh or allow me to tune out of life. I choose my books based on my mood.

What are you working on now?
Keeping my blog updated, promoting my book and starting a fiction book which is loosely related to my life growing up in Newport Beach, CA.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I wish I could share what has been helpful but I’m still struggling to find my way.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up, set deadlines, and stay true to you. Listen to others advice but if it doesn’t seem like a good fit for you, trust your intuition.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Treat others as you want to be treated and live each day as if it was your last.

What are you reading now?
This Won’t End Well by Camille Pagan, a funny story that makes me laugh.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Just keep writing and moving forward.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Jesus Calling and a reference book on how to survive on a desert island.

Manijah Welcome

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an author, twitch streamer, youtuber, def not a memer… a memer, a music lover among other things. Currently I’ve written one book which is Tales of Aegan (Revolt).

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Tales of Aegan (Revolt), everything that I’ve ever done or experienced in my life up until now inspired it. From the people that I know to funny videos or movies, to other books that I’ve read and of course anime!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well I wrote about a quarter of my book in two years and then the other three quarters in less than a month so that might be considered weird.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Percy Jackson books, Japanese manga like Naruto, and lots others.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on the second book in the Tales of Aegan series, which has a potential title of Tales of Aegan Civil War. I’m also working on a separate short story series called Slow Poison.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m not entirely sure yet as I’ve only just begun promotion on my project.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t rush your work, let the book write itself.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t rush your work, let the book write itself. ~ Came from my brain

What are you reading now?
Rereading my own book!

What’s next for you as a writer?
Well aside from releasing more books, I plan on owning my own gaming company sometime in the near future. Well I already own the company but I plan on really doing stuff with it soon.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take any 3 to 4 books that I personally wrote, because above all else if I were going to be stuck there forever I would want to remember who I am or was and all of my writing has a piece of me in it.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m originally from Glasgow, but I currently live in Spain with my wife and an old cat that constantly occupies my chair at the writing desk.

I’m never happy with my writing and tend to unpublish not long after I’ve sent them off to Amazon. It must be dozens.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Jake Of All Trades was inspired by the people I see every day when I went through Govan on the bus. My mum still lives there and some of the characters are real.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I spend forever writing the first paragraph.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m influenced by everything I read that I find interesting.

What are you working on now?
A sequel to Jake of All Trades. This one will be more mysterious than rough.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Now I’m trying to grow organically via email subscribers

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep trying!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up. If you fail, improve.

What are you reading now?
4321.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Just keep writing until I hit the jackpot.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Gulliver’s Travels and anything written by Ken Follet.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I hail from Tampa, Florida and I am a retired member of the United States Air Force. I currently work with United States Federal Government as a analyst. Most of all I’m a devout Christian serving as a musician in True Gospel Church Ministry and Word Healing Outreach Ministries.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is entitled Weight Loss and it is the sequel to my book entitled 27 Hours. I wrote 27 Hours during the apocalyptic era. I mean there were several end of the world movies going around so I decided to add my book to the pile. I had a lot of great feedback from 27 Hours and planned to do a sequel. I’m just getting around to it eight years later.

Weight Loss takes one of the problems in America, obesity, and uses it to entice millions to accept a chip (the mark of the beast) in their heads. The Antichrist expands the use of this chip to all markets and eventually makes it necessary to have the chip to purchase food and water.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have any usual habits. I write daily. I have a self imposed goal of 1,000 words a day. My plan is that if I get to this goal I will have a completed novel in two months. If I get story ideas I write them down on my phone (we’re inseparable) then when I get to my computer I write detailed notes on the idea. At some point I pull it out and turn it into a novel.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was actually influenced years ago by Donald Goines. When I was a young man a friend in the military introduced me Donald Goines’ books. I read them all and it was then I knew I wanted to write. What I admired about him most was that no matter how much money he made writing he stayed in hood because that’s what he wanted to write about.

What are you working on now?
Keeping with my 1,000 words a day model, I have almost competed Warlord, the third in the line of the 27 Hours series. Warlord focus’ on the Antichrist’s rise to the top and how he becomes ruler of the world. Bishop Carroll the antagonist in 27 Hours is the protagonist in Warlord.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use a variety of different sites and selling methods depending on the book. I use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with every book but I also approach churches with my books. I have also mailed copies to mega church leaders in an attempt to gain exposure.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do it for the love of doing it and never quit. I don’t write to get rich, hence why I’m still working. I write because it therapeutic. Creating my own world and walking my characters through it takes me away from any problems or concerns I may have.

For me quitting is not a issue. If you start down this road it’s because you have stories inside of you. Let me come out and share with the world. If you don’t do it for money and never quit someone will be inspired by your writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The answer to this question follows the answer to the previous question. The best advice I constantly get is to never quit. The best quote on the topic I’ve heard is, “I have not failed, I just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” -Thomas Edison

What are you reading now?
I’m always trying to learn new ways and method to discover new readers and I started reading this book today, “Mastering Simple Facebook Ads For Authors: Find Readers and Build Your Mailing List”.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue to write! I have about ten story outlines in my queue so I’ll be busy writing for quite some time.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take the Bible for sure. The others would be works that support the Bible. I would take: Pursuit of God with Reflection & Study Questions by S. L. MacGregor Mathers and L. W. De Laurence and Healing the Wounds of the Past by T.D. Jakes.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have been publishing short stories for the last ten years and have gradually taken to writing longer pieces. I currently have two books in print, one of which is a collection of short stories and my first full-length book, The Blue Jackets.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My newest book is The Blue Jackets, a Young Adult adventure. The book was inspired by both the Chris Claremont run on the X-Men comic books and my time spent in a Neurological Rehab Hospital following my diagnosis of MS. Some of the other patients were living superheroes.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write late at night and procrastinate a lot. My output is much lower than I would like because of that! I must have music playing too, preferably something instrumental so I don’t start typing the lyrics I am listening to.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
For my books like The Blue Jackets I draw influence from the aforementioned Chris Claremont. My horror writing is inspired by the likes of Stephen King, early Clive Barker, and Dean Koontz.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on the second Blue Jackets book, The Echo Committee, and another (as yet unnamed) collection of horror shorts.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am learning how to promote and taking baby-steps towards being accomplished in marketing. Awesome Gang has been a great aid in that respect.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Write. Write. Some of my earliest pieces make me wince when I read them back but I would never created anything I am proud of without those misguided first attempts.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“The first draft of everything is sh*t.” Never a truer word spoken.

What are you reading now?
I am trying to clear my to-be-read pile. I am currently about a dozen pages into ‘When I Was You’ by Minka Kent.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have two more Blue Jackets books plotted in my head and a dystopian future story growing in the back of my head somewhere.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Only 3 or 4? Wow. Hard choice. I would have to include ‘The Stand’ by Stephen King as it contains the most frightening chapter I have ever read and it’s only a couple of pages in a hefty tome. ‘Odd Thomas’ by Dean Koontz is another must-have, it remains the only book to have made me cry.

Jeana Laurie

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I always saw the world in terms of stories. As a kid, I’d rehearse dialogue in my head as a pass time. Specifically, the characters in stories fascinated me. I wanted to figure out their motivations, it was like a fascinating puzzle to me. As I got older, I’d take that interest and channel it toward studying psychology, but writing fiction was always my first love. My recently released novel, Yahto Orrin, aims to blend the two subjects in a satisfying way.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Yahto Orrin, is set in a science-fiction world some 200 years beyond our present-day but focuses on the people more so than setting. At its core, Yahto is a coming of age story and is aimed at a young adult audience. Though I believe it could easily be enjoyed by adults of all ages as well. Yahto Orrin is very personal and reflects my views of poverty and the low self-worth that often accompanies it. It’s a sort of commentary on class distinction and finding our sense of belonging in spite of a rocky start in life.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if it’s all that unusual, but I always write while listening to music. In fact, it’s hard to do so without it. I look for songs that relate to the feel of the story and use them as a painter would different colors. Finding just the right song for a moment can really help me add intensity to whatever scene I’m writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I enjoy going off the beaten path a little when it comes to inspiration. Always looking for interesting characters in books rather than just plot. Though aimed at a middle-grade audience, I truly enjoyed Trenton Lee Steward’s Mysterious Benedict Society and Jeanne Birdsall’s The Penderwicks. Another book of note would be Mister Max written by Cynthia Voigt. All of them had a very strong sense of character-real people that leap out of the page and mean something to you. I wanted to imitate that, because, in the end, it’s the people in a book that make you fall in love with it.

What are you working on now?
I’m nearing the end of my sequel to Yahto Orrin and will be publishing it in the months ahead. Afterward, I’m giving thought to a possible third book in the series, and some non-related standalone novels.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve been writing for years, but am still very new to the publishing business. From what I’ve seen thus far though, I’d say go to where the readers are. Choose a service or ad platform that is focused on putting you in front of readers when they are actively looking for a new book. If you put an ad on say social media, (as a sponsored post to strangers, I don’t mean your actual followers) then I think they’ll likely find it annoying. They are there to socialize not buy a book that just popped up out of nowhere on an ad. So I try to focus on where the readers are and when they’re ready to find a new book. Book newsletters, Amazon or Bookbub ads, etc, I think would be a better bet. Still though, whatever works for you personally is the best option.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
First off, make sure writing is what you really want to do. I was very affected by Rainer Maria Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet. In it, he basically says that if you honestly ask yourself “would I die without writing” you’ll find out what writing really means to you. If it is in your blood then just stay at it. Consistent practice will lead to improvement if you stick with it. We all have off, and sometimes downright terrible writing days, but the key is sticking with it. You’ll only be able to do that if you really are in love with the craft.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
We as authors tend to have an informational overload when it comes to advice. But one thing that sticks out to me was the advice to avoid trend writing. In other words, don’t do something just because it’s popular. The story you’re telling has to mean something to you personally or it won’t move the readers. Simple as that.

What are you reading now?
Nothing much at the moment. I obviously love books and reading can be a big source of inspiration, but I’ve been a little too busy inside my own work lately. With that said, I love a good mystery to unwind with when I do get time.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My aim is to build up a little following of readers that enjoy my work and want to stick with me for the long term. I’m always going to be writing something new, so I’d like to find a group of people that would be eager to see what I’ve been up to.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, The Penderwicks at Point Mouette, Mister Max: The Book of Secrets, The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been in the literary world for about five years now, currently in the process of book 40. Most of my writing is done part-time, as I also have a full-time job in management with a major retailer. I started writing after losing a parent, the stress of dealing with the loss led me to jot a few words down on paper and it went from there, Once I realized I had a full manuscript, I sent a few chapters to three small publishers and received a contract from all three. I love what I do, and look forward to the day when I can commit to my craft full-time.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, Call Out My Name-A Vampire’s Tale is part two of the Vampire Tales series. I’ve always wanted to write a paranormal book, and seeing as how the first book in the series (Fascinated By A Billionaire-A Vampire’s Tale) was well-received, I felt I owed it to my readers to answer some of their questions in book form.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I personally don’t think it’s unusual, but I have to have a box of Milk Duds and have some sort of white noise in order for the ideas to flow properly.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I would have to say Terry McMillan, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Stephen King, and a host of others.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m finishing up a story that is a part of a series of zodiac romance tales. After that, I plan to start on an urban fairy tale reminiscent of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I rely heavily on a combination of word of mouth along with social media promotion to promote my work. I also showcase my work at book fairs across the country geared towards my fan base.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Everyone will not love your work as much as you do. Write your story anyway.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard would be to write what you (as the author) want to write. All stories resonate in some way, shape, form or fashion with readers.

What are you reading now?
My current read is Half Of A Yellow Sun by Chimamada Ngosi Adichie. I love her writing style and storytelling abilities.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Next for me as a writer: I’m finishing up a vampire series, and starting on an urban novel before taking a hiatus to devote my time to my publishing company.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Purposely stranded on a desert island? There’s at least a ton of books I’d bring, but my top four would have to be Becoming-Michelle Obama, 1922 by Stephen King, Set-A Novella by Alexandria House, and Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an Egyptian medical doctor, and I believe that magic is essential to life, this is why every book I write has some magic, just to make alive.
I have written a total of 4 books, the last of them is The chronicles of Agartha: Book 1 – The Green Boy.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is The Chronicles of Agartha: Book 1 – The Green Boy, and as the story happens in Inner Earth, Agartha, the name of the series was easy to put to paper.
As for the reason behind naming the first book of the series, The Green Boy, it is simply because the main character, Ethan, has a green aura, and he is also the last surviving member of the green aura nation.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really, maybe the fact that I binge writing. I could stay for days dormant, then I would write 12,000 words in one day.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to count, but Robert Jordan, Neil Gaiman, and Terry Pratchett are my personal idols.

What are you working on now?
Book 2 of The Chronicles of Agartha, plus I am starting a new humor fantasy series, it would be one of a kind for sure.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I try to pursue all available options, the awesome gang is one of my favorites.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read more than you write, then when you write, never quit, you will finish it if you keep it as a goal.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write often, and write with heart, said by an old English teacher who saw the potential in me.

What are you reading now?
Just finished Shattered by Leila Kirkconnell, highly recommended for mystery lovers.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Bestseller? I hope.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I wouldn’t know how to chose, I have so many favorites. Wait, I do live in a desert country, and I have my beloved books on my kindle, no need to take more than this.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a UK trained civil engineer. I practiced engineering in UK and Hong Kong, and taught civil engineering in a university in Singapore. Yet, I’ve now become a spiritual philosopher. I actively share my spiritual philosophy, which is not religious, in my books and in my talks. I’ve written five book series and more than 20 books of four different genres: engineering, philosophy, self-help and spirituality.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Wisdom for Living with New Spirituality” with the subtitle “How to Become a Better Soul” is my latest book. I was inspired to write this book because I note that humans having lived with the old spirituality (religion) for thousands of years, and yet, there is no peace on Earth. This book explores the problems with the old spirituality, and offers a new spirituality that can bring peace to Earth.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing belongs to inspirational writing (i.e. in spirit). Hence, my writing is prompted by a spirit. I called it the Great Spirit. Very often, I was woken up in the middle of the night by the Great Spirit to do the writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
“Conversations with God” book series by Neale Donald Walsch has the biggest influence on me.

What are you working on now?
“Wisdom on What is Good and What is Bad” is the book I’m working on. The subtitle is “How to Become a Better Human and Create a Better World”. This book is the sequel to my latest book “Wisdom for Living with New Spirituality: How to Become a Better Soul”.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best method to promote my books is to give talks at events.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be clear on why you want to write, and have an inner knowing how good your writing is.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To step up and share my messages with wider audience as the world really needs them.

Michael Hartnett

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a novelist who lives in New York. I have written five published books and the upcoming Blue Gowanus which is being published by Black Rose Writing in September, 2020.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Blue Rat was inspired by many endless walks around New York City. Drawing on a city teeming with secrets spots and hidden histories, The Blue Rat explores these territories in a novel filled with many adventures.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I often write in the middle of the night, but I figure many authors find inspiration in the darkness. Oddly, the train is the most likely place for me to write. The process of traveling somewhere tends to take my writing in exciting directions.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Writers like Don DeLillo and Thomas Pynchon have influenced the side of me that wants to explore the strangeness and layers of our contemporary society. Meanwhile, authors ranging from Raymond Chandler to Carl Hiassen offer everyday grittiness and humor that keep my fiction grounded.

What are you working on now?
My upcoming novel, Blue Gowanus, focuses on intrigues in and around the most contaminated canal in America.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon and Goodreads provide the largest platforms, but I also find reviews from bloggers quite helpful.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The time spent writing can be quite magical, but the time spent editing and proofreading is just as valuable. Ultimately, the roughest part is getting a publisher and then spending time promoting. Despite how depressing and challenging promotion can be, I always keep in mind that I value having readers. I don’t need to make much money from the writing, but I really do need readers.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write to get an idea or a vision out of your system. From there, make sure you have presented that writing in the most engaging way possible.

What are you reading now?
I am reading one of Len Boswell’s wonderfully humorous Simon Grave Mysteries and Joe Edd Morris’s enthralling and brilliant adventure The Prison.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Since I have just wrapped up my novel Blue Gowanus, I will go back out and continue to walk the streets to figure out what inspires me and what brings meaning to my life. For The Blue Rat, I wandered through New York City’s undergrounds; for Blue Gowanus, I tramped around a canal in Brooklyn from every angle possible. I figure for the next book, I will take a similar approach.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, Melville’s Moby Dick, Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow, and Caro’s The Power Broker.
