Andrea Cramer

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
About two years ago I’ve decided to quit my well-paid Sales Manager Job and moved to Thailand where I spent nearly all my money and spare time on helping street dogs.

I started cooking Homemade Dog Food because one of my two rescue dogs was diagnosed with Canine Renal Failure (CRF).

As a street dog rescuer in Thailand, the money is always short and special treatment for dogs with different health conditions expensive. So we become “vet nurses”, and my focus is nutrition and special diets.

I have had dogs all my life, worked in Norway on a Husky Farm and just love them! This book is not only full of information and recipes to make your dog happy and healthy, it is also stuffed with lots of love.

The recipes have been approved by local vets and the Veterinarian University Hospital here in Thailand.

Many street dogs, my friend’s dogs, and my own dogs became guinea pigs, and it wasn’t easy to make them eat vegetables. But I finally found the trick! You will read more about it in the next chapters.

We monitored the test candidate’s blood values at least every three months to make sure the recipes work.

The idea became very successful, not only in Thailand, and all pooches love this food. The result for dogs with different health issues has been overwhelming, and we saved money!

This is the very first book I’ve written and here it is now for everyone!

The Complete Guide to a healthy, happy dog with Homemade Dog Food and how to support different health conditions with a special diet.

When I’m not writing a book or taking care of street dogs, I’m a full-time Life Coach, Blogger & Freelance Writer at https://damnitshard.com.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Homemade Dog Food – The Complete Guide. The inspiration was the many street dogs in Thailand I’ve worked with and my own rescue dog, who suffered from Renal Failure. The more I’ve learned about commercial dog food, the more effort I put into finding the ideal alternatives.

Brandy M Miller

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written dozens, but I’ve personally published 8.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Turning Problems Into Profits is my latest book. It was inspired by the realization one day that all of the problems in my past were potential profit for today, while all of my problems of today were potential profit for tomorrow. I woke up that morning grinning from ear to ear, shouting, “I have problems! I HAVE PROBLEMS!” I’m sure it was hilarious to my husband and anyone else in earshot, but I was truly overjoyed – for the first time in my life – to have all the problems that I faced.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I use Excel spreadsheets to help with editing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh, goodness. There are so many authors I have read who inspire me and who make me believe that writing is not just worth it – it’s one of the best ways to make a lasting difference in our world. The best way to make a lasting difference is to be a parent, second is to be a teacher, but third on that list is to be a writer.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on several different pieces of fiction along with a follow-up to this book called Writing Problems Into Profits.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Aside from awesomegang.com? I would say Bublish.com seems to be one of the best websites to list your books on. My best method of promoting my books, though, is by developing relationships with the people around me. They tend to refer people to me once they know what I am capable of doing. I’ve also gotten my books in magazines because I help with editing them. 🙂

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Absolutely. First, know what your book can do for the people who read it and then know who needs that result more than anyone else in the world. Those people are your target market. Then – get proactive about promoting yourself. You are your own best advocate.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I was ever given is to take 100% ownership of outcomes. You can’t control everything in your life or stop everything that happens to you, but you can 100% control your choice in how to respond to it – and the choice in how to respond is what decides the final outcome. Be responsible for your writing career 100%. Don’t blame agents, don’t blame publishers, don’t blame retailers, don’t blame book buyers. Take it all on you and ask yourself what YOU can personally do to start changing the way things are going for yourself.

What are you reading now?
How To Sell Anything To Anybody by Joe Girard.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will be teaching at the Las Vegas Writers Conference in April this year as well as at the Act Like an Author, Think Like A Business Conference in September.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible which is a book of books, a blank journal because – duh – I’m going to want to write about this, a volume of Lives of the Saints for inspiration on getting through adversity without losing hope, and a guide to surviving on a desert island.

Felice Mathieu

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello everyone! My name is Felice Mathieu. I am a Speaker Poet (Public speaker that uses Spoken Word Poetry in his presentations) and a Marriage Coach. Basically, I help spouses talk to each other better. Less arguments. More unity.

I have written two books, but only been promoting one. lol. Long story.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A Christian Marriage Guide: Preventing Arguments and Promoting Unity in the Christian Marriage.

I wrote this book so that my followers, clients, and organizations that I speak to could have something tangible to take away and study when I am not available. Many of the same questions are commonly asked. I can’t be everywhere at once unfortunately, so now this book can aid more people than I can physically do.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have a bad habit or writing, editing, and proofreading while I create. I sometimes rewrite a line 10 times. Then months later, I go rewrite another 10. Bad habit I have developed from my years of Spoken Word Poetry.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Bible, The Four Love Languages, The Magic of Thinking Big.

What are you working on now?
Promoting my book, speaking engagements, church workshops. My current focus is creating a video course that compliments my book. Those who don’t like to read, can take the nuggets from the course.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have a website where I write blogs related to communication. Some of those blogs relate to principles from my book. Many of those blogs though are just extra information on communication not covered in my book.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
“Be you.” Share what you care about, and know, and in the process, share it like YOU would share it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Be YOU.”

What are you reading now?
Systematic Theology by Oliver Buswell.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finding more ways to efficiently help spouses and spouses-to-be with what I know.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible.

Alicia Stills

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! My name is Alicia Stills and I have just started to self-publish my writings as of the spring of 2020. I’ve always enjoyed the writing process and would craft stories even when I was little, but I didn’t decide to focus on writing in any serious manner until early 2019.

I grew up in a small town that was about as cold and isolated as you can find in the continental U.S. but am now a big city transplant. Now I’m surrounded by people who try to commiserate with me over being from a “small town,” who then go on to talk about how their high school class was nearly as large as my entire hometown. We had to drive for an hour to find fast food or a traffic light… so, not exactly in the same realm as growing up in the suburbs.

Perhaps if frostbite didn’t limit how much sledding and ice skating I could do in a day, I wouldn’t have been forced indoors to discover writing as my warmer activity. As it was, I found myself trying to put together stories as far back as I can remember, although never to share with others.

My world felt like it really expanded when I reached middle school, which is about the same time Internet reached my household. It expanded again when I graduated from high school early and left home to go to college in what felt like a large city at that time. All the while, I kept writing, but always just for myself. It was the thing I did to keep myself grounded while discovering myself in a world that felt like it was growing around me exponentially.

I finished college and worked for a year in a corporate tax firm, largely hating every minute of it and contemplating going to graduate school. I stopped writing as I focused on my career and potential grad school, but I also met my husband during this time, so I could never say it was all bad.

I ended up enrolling in grad school, taking my now-husband with me to a new, larger city. Writing continued to be nothing more than an afterthought as I finished school, embarked on a new career, got married, and started a family. It wasn’t until I had two kids and was several years into my career that I started writing again after receiving encouragement from my husband. I started writing very casually at first before deciding to focus on creating works that I deemed to be worthy of being published.

I live with my husband and two kids and am still slogging away in my corporate job while dreaming of being able to write full-time. My husband and I are very active with my writing, our jobs, and our kids, but we still make sure we are carving out time for the two of us.

I currently have one completed book with several more in the works.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Hooky: One Act of Defiance Can Set Her Free.

It’s currently the only book I feel is ready to be published. I have a few others that have a completed manuscript (or a very nearly completed manuscript), but I put a hold on working on those books while I navigate all the finer points of completing a book and self-publishing.

When I began writing this story, I had envisioned it being a work of erotica, although it changed substantially as I let the story and the characters develop. Initially, I had intended on focusing almost exclusively on a brief encounter that I had towards the beginning of my relationship with my husband around a decade earlier. I was at the beach with my husband when we saw a woman who was about my age walking with three guys. We caught them playing grab-ass and it was clear we were walking through a cloud of sexual tension between this woman and all three guys. When we crossed paths, we turned to watch them continue away from us, seeing that they appeared happy to resume where they left off.

I contemplated trying to craft a story focused on this woman but ended up focusing on my own perspective, building a character and backstory to explain how the main character reached that point on the beach, why she was fascinated with a woman who would so boldly toy with multiple men in public, and what that effect would have.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a sequel to Hooky, as well a couple of works relating to hotwifing.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Writing is a lot more work than most new authors realize, especially if you are going to go the self-publishing route. I’ve chatted with quite a few people considering writing as a part-time or full-time job, both in person and online, and most don’t realize that there’s a lot more that goes into writing than simply creating a manuscript. A lot don’t even seem to realize that a lot goes (or should go) into creating a manuscript. I was talking to a woman I went to college with who was sure that she could write a great story and that it would be a lot quicker for her because she wouldn’t have to do much editing. Her reasoning was that she’s a really good writer and she just edits as she goes. Therefore, there’s no real need to go back and edit or rewrite at the end.

I’m a good writer. And I edit as I go, too. As does every writer that has any success. But they also go back and read for clarity, content and edit any typos. And once that’s done, you have to format everything, create a book cover and title, and promote your book. Writing the manuscript may not even be half the battle.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Sometimes, good enough really is good enough.

I have a tendency to be a perfectionist, which isn’t necessarily a bad quality. At some point, though, there are diminishing returns, particularly with something that is as subjective as writing. Being able to accept when I’ve reached the point of being “good enough” has been a huge factor in helping me save my sanity through my early adulthood.

What are you reading now?
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My focus for right now is working on a successful launch for Hooky: One Act of Defiance Can Set Her Free since I feel there is a lot for me to learn as far as self-publishing is concerned. After that, I plan on focusing on my other completed manuscripts to get them to publication by the fall or winter of 2020.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Harry Potter 4, 6, and 7. I would say five, six, and seven, but I just like the fourth one better. For whatever reason, I’ve never gotten tired of reading the Harry Potter series.

I also would bring Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. That’s another book that I’ve been interested in every time I’ve read it.

Eric Anderson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a husband, farther of two girls, engineer, children’s book author, toy inventor, board game maker and musician. I have written 9 stories contained in 3 separate books, with 12 more stories planned for this year. My goal for this year is 21 stories by 2021.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Robotic Adventures of BeeBoo, volumes 7-9. The last story written in it is BigBot Discovers He is Stuck in a Book, which was inspired by my daughter who suggested that I write a book where BeeBoo says, “Whoa, I’m stuck in a book!” I love meta stuff, so I leaned really far into that idea by even writing myself into that story.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My best stories are written in one sitting. Often times the ideas percolate for a month or so before they make it to the written page.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dimitri Martin and Jim Gaffigan have influenced my humor in many ways. I always keep my jokes clean and appropriate, and those comedians have encouraged my love of Dad jokes and finding humor in any situation.

What are you working on now?
I’m continuing these BeeBoo stories. The next three will be BeeBoo Paints a Masterpiece, Slobot’s Diner Party, and another one that I don’t want to reveal yet.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook posts and Facebook ads work the best for me.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write for fun. I try to make things that people I love would enjoy. Seeing their enjoyment makes all the hard work worth it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Only you can decide how you feel. Good things and bad things can happen in life, but it’s up to you to decide how you feel about it. I always try to have the most positive outlook every day.

What are you reading now?
I am reading a bunch of kids books with my daughters. We are enjoying Sandra Boynton’s books right now.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My current focus is to find more readers like me who would like to bring more humor to their kids lives.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I am a big fan of the Narnia series by C.S. Lewis and would take those books with me.

Sophia Clark

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written two books, both in the Class Mom Mystery series, but I have a few more in the works. I’ve been writing short stories for as long as I can remember, but “The Principal of the Matter” was my first novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is the second Class Mom Mystery, titled “Work Yourself to Death.” It was inspired in part by my character, Meredith Knight, who found that being a stay at home mom left her thirsty for a little extra excitement in her life. After getting mixed up in a murder, it was hard for her to return to her every day life. In addition to my fictional world, this book also grew out of my own experiences feeling pulled in two directions: both towards home and my family, and towards developing my career. It’s a hard balance!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t write at all for a long time and then I write fast! I work out all the details and bits of dialog while doing other things like running or driving (sometimes in the shower too!), and then hurry to get it all written down as soon as I think I have it right.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
In terms of my current series, Agatha Christie is undoubtedly my biggest influence, but there’s a lot of Sophia Kinsella in there too. The truth is, I read everything: mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, YA, and classics. In addition to the queens of mystery and chick lit, I love Margaret Atwood, Kazuo Ishiguro, Edith Wharton, and E. M. Forster.

What are you working on now?
The third book in my Class Mom series. In this one, Meredith tries to get away from the stresses of family life and the murders that seem to pile up around her, but finds that a trip to the beach with her girlfriends isn’t quite as stress-free as she had hoped.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Still working on figuring that out!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write for yourself, not an audience. Don’t get hung up on how people will receive your book. Once you let go of that, it gets a lot easier.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write. I met Lee Smith at a conference a few years ago and she told me that the best advice she could give an author is to just start writing, and stick with it. Sometimes it won’t be good, but it won’t get better if you don’t keep trying.

What are you reading now?
A book of short stories by Rion Amilcar Scott called “The World Doesn’t Require You” and re-reading Agatha Christie’s “The Clocks.”

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to stick with Meredith a while longer, but I have an idea for a second series about two best friends in the 1950s that I will probably start working on as soon as I’ve fleshed out a few more details.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Unfair question!
Today my list is probably The Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro, The Comforters by Muriel Spark, the biggest book of Miss Marple stories I can find, and something I’ve always wanted to read and haven’t got around to yet. I’ll have to think on that one.

Murad Jawed

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi My name is Murad and I am a first time published Author. For as long as I can remember I have been a avid book lover. In spite of English not being my language of communication, I had been reading English literature for ages though for a long time the idea of writing and publishing my own work never occurred to me. However, as they say better late than never, I could bring myself to write my first book and fortunately I got a publisher to publish my work as well. So till date I have written one book and have another one in early stages but I know there are many more waiting to take shape in form of words through my pen. I am also an accomplished artist working. I do oil painting primarily in realism genre. A number of my works have been showcased and sold all over the globe especially in my native country India and Europe.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is ‘A Tea-stall by the side of the Road’. It is a collection of short stories based on real life incidences, folklore, anecdotes as well as urban legends from across India. The idea of writing this book developed over a long time and in phases. It started as an attempt to create a blog where I could share a fictionalized version of some of the anecdotes and experiences shared with me by people around me as my friends felt I can be ‘up to the task’. Over several succeeding months and after a lot of encouraging feedback I compiled it in the form of a book and was lucky to have a few publishers in India find it interesting enough to give me my first contract.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t call my writing habit unusual but as a serious biking enthusiast I have developed a habit of only writing over a long bike ride usually over a number of cups of tea, at the road side tea stall which are omnipresent here in India. That is how the title of my book also occurred to me. It was a single tribute to all my passions.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
While I have read across genres in the English literature, my primary interest lies in short stories in fiction. As such the author that I admire most is the famous Indian writer Mr. Ruskin bond. Other than him I really like Dan Brown, Charles Dickens, and Douglas Adams among others. Among the contemporary Indian writers I admire the works of Amish Tripathy.

What are you working on now?
I am currently in the early stages of working on the second book, another collection of short stories.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still new of book promotion but I am primarily focusing on getting reviews both paid and free from some of the more active book bloggers and influencers. Other than that I think the power of facebook and youtube in connecting with the book lovers space can not be understated.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Well I am myself a new Author. However based on my whole experience of going through this process I would advice those who are beginning their journey towards the publication of their first book, to first focus on creating something beautiful, something they truly believe in. Once they have their conviction it will give them a lot of support during the latter and more difficult part of the journey i.e. marketing. It is not easy and therefore a lot of them might feel like giving up. It is here that your belief would prod you on.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
For me the best advice with regards to my journey towards being an author remains the one that I had from a very close friend a number of years back when he advised me to write a book and try to get it published. Although it seems quite simple but strangely before that the thought of writing a book never occurred to me.

What are you reading now?
I am reading ‘A hitchhikers guide to galaxy’ (once again!)

What’s next for you as a writer?
My next project is definitely another short stories book as that comes naturally to me and I feel very comfortable with it, but sooner rather than later I would like to work upon a full length novel, preferably a historical drama or a crime thriller. I would also love to explore opportunities in script writing for movies or TV series as I feel there is a lot of scope for experimentation there.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A hitchhiker’s guide to galaxy; it would be a unique fun reading it all over again among the stars in the clear night sky of the desert. Atlas shrugged by Ayn Rand for the sheer size of it if not anything else considering the amount of time I would have at my disposal, a desert survival guidebook, because that would be the wise thing to do and a copy of Holy Qur’an to give me spiritual support in such times.
