M.W. Arita

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am primarily an author of Young Adult Fantasy fiction and the founder of Aeonian Entertainment, my publishing arm that puts out various series in the larger Aeonian Covenant Universe. Think of it like Marvel but for teen-focused fantasy books. To date, I’ve written 10 books in two different series, with an 11th and 12th in two other series on the way.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest release is actually a box set of the first season of “The Night Sword Detective.” It contains six books that complete the first major story arc of the series. The cases were inspired by a mixture of Japanese comics, ancient Japanese folklore and legends, and the American TV show “Supernatural.” The characters are based on people I know in my daily life, but I can’t say who, though. 😉

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I absolutely HAVE to have earphones in with music blasting in order to get a scene going. Usually, the music matches the “mood” of the scene I’m writing, but not always. The most unusual part, I find, is that I tend to repeat the same long on a loop dozens–or hundreds–of times to get myself into a trance-like “flow” state that produces my best, most inspired writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My biggest influences are as follows…

Western authors:
-Alexandre Dumas
-Edgar Rice Burroughs
-Neil Gaiman

Eastern authors:
-Kinoko Nasu
-Eiichiro Oda
-Yoshihiro Togashi

What are you working on now?
My current project is “The Prism Wizard and the Ancient Artifice,” the first book in a new Middle Grade Fantasy series about a young boy who can’t use magic, his robot friend, and their (mis)adventures at a magic military school. It was inspired by a combination of things: Harry Potter for the magical school (of course), West Point Military Academy for the military aspect of the school, and the ruins the kids explore are inspired by various games and comics I played and read as a child.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That’s a great question. I’m honestly not sure yet since I’m still early in my career and trying out different things. I’ll let you know what works when I find something effective.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stay focused and disciplined regardless of how you feel. Some days, the writing will feel effortless and give the greatest high you’ve ever known, while other days, the writing will feel like pulling teeth and it’ll take all your herculean might to produce a handful of decent sentences. If you hang in there during the rough parts (almost always the halfway mark for me), you’ll come out the other side just fine and have a finished novel in your hands.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Strive to be the person you want to look at in the mirror and be proud of every day.

What are you reading now?
“City of Bones” by Cassandra Clare.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to aim to continue to put out new releases every month or so, including sequels to current series and starting new ones. I’m also eventually going to expand into print books, audiobooks, comics, and perhaps other media forms beyond that in the future.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
-“The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas
-“The Mahabharata” Hindu epic, specifically the modern translation by Ramesh Menon
-“The Sandman” comics series by Neil Gaiman

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written multiple books, but only had the nerve to publish one so far. By day, I work as a mechanic. Resultingly, I’ve built up a crude sense of humor, massive appreciation for classic muscle cars and quite a number of opinions about the world around me.

You can see my creative outlook, crude humor, interest in cars and political opinions seamlessly blend together in a humorous fashion in my first publication; “Don’t Buy This Book.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Don’t buy this book; a compilation of poetic verses for space nerds, car guys and toxic assholes” was taken from a number of poems I had written as individual writing warm-ups throughout the years.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always write sprawled out across my floor surrounded by multiple notebooks and writing pads with my lap top in the center of it all. I have fresh coffee to the side and often some form of classic sci-fi playing in the corner. I work amongst chaos to stay stimulated.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I absolutely love Asimov and H G Wells. Asimov knew just how to come up with the most intricate, well-thought-out concepts and Wells knew how to rope you in and keep the plot constantly driven.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on something quite different from this one. While this is a collection of poems, the next will be a full-length sci-fi novel. I’ve been working on this one for years, it’s my baby at this point.

The book follows the treacherous journey of a crew of astronauts tasked with testing the world’s first lightspeed capable craft and, as all sci-fi books require, things do not go as planned.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon has far and away been the most widespread, versatile means of printing and distributing that I have found so far.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m new too at this point, I don’t have much room to advise.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Just keep at it,” it’s simple, but effective.

What are you reading now?
Caves of Steel by Asimov and Buick 8 by Stephen King

What’s next for you as a writer?
Next, I’m focused on getting more content out.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I, Robot by Asimov
The Time Machine by HG Wells
The Foundation by Asimov
The Enigma of The Aerofoil

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have been a voracious reader since last 20 years. I have read various genres of fiction and non-fiction books.

I have self-published my debut book on Amazon.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My debut book is “The Soulmates”. My book is inspired by several real life news stories around the world.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
This is my debut book. I started writing it seriously in June 2019 although the plot was already in my mind since November 2017. I noticed that when i started writing it seriously, i couldn’t stop thinking about the story, the characters, the situations, etc. Whenever i heard a good dialogue, i would start thinking about how i can fit it in my story. I am not sure whether this is unusual about writing since i was writing a book for the first time.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am really grateful for many authors whose books influenced my writing style.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you have a great idea / plot, start writing. Do not wait for the perfect timing. Writing is a humongous task, but if you start with something, gradually it will start taking shape and you will be motivated to complete it.

What are you reading now?
Please refer my Goodreads profile.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would prefer to take fiction books – books by John Grisham or Dan Brown

G.D. Madsen

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an indie author of Romantic Suspense stories for adults with strong heroines and alphas ready to sacrifice everything for their women.
Although born in Lithuania, I have been traveling the world for most of my life, and five years ago settled in the small French village in the middle of vineyards together with my husband from Greenland. This is where my first book was born and was soon followed by others.
As of now, I have at least 7 WIPs, but I only published my first one “Imperfect Forgery” in June 2019. The second book is divided into 2 parts – a prequel “Burning Frost” and a second chance romantic suspense story “Frozen Ashes” which can also be read on its own.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest one is actually a Holiday novella “Accidentally Us” which was as accidental as its title suggests. What inspired it? I wanted to write a Holiday story for a while now, but my problem is that every single time I decide to keep the story short, it ends up being a full-length novel. So, this was a challenge for me – to tell a story in 20K words. And from the feedback I received, it seems I succeeded to make it steamy, funny, and emotional at the same time.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think my habits are different from others. But I prefer writing on the couch or in bed, instead of sitting at the table. And I forget to eat whenever I write. And the music I listen to when I write can vary from Reguetton to Tom Waits or Argentine tango, depending on the story I am working on.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Actually, what influenced me, and made me write the first lines of the paranormal romance which I am yet to finish, was my own dream. I wanted to write it down, and it evolved into the whole story. But from the contemporary authors, I would have to say Skye Warren – I love her style of writing, I love the characters, and the stories too.

What are you working on now?
Now I am working on a story I finished more than a year ago. I am actually rewriting it from the third-person POV to the dual first-person POV. I don’t have a blurb for it yet, but it is a forbidden romance, age gap, drug cartel, suspense, sacrifices, separation blues, and second chances.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still quite new to the marketing part of self-publishing, so my knowledge in this field is still quite limited. Actually, at the moment I am doing my best to read every useful article I can find about promoting the books. This is how I found this place too.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
As a new author myself, I have only one piece of advice. Don’t give up. I knew every single person who bought my debut novel (except for when I put it on a free promotion on Amazon) and I had no money to pay for ads because I used it all for hiring a professional editor.
But seriously, don’t give up! I know, it’s frustrating to try to find your place in the midst of already well-established authors, but as my second book proved – readers will eventually find you. So, keep writing!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
This actually came from the trailer of Margaret Atwood’s Masterclass. She said: “Do it. Do it more. Do it better. Fail. Fail better.” So, I guess this is what I am doing.

What are you reading now?
At the moment, nothing. I just finished some books last weekend and now I am waiting for one of the author’s from my Instagram community debut novel to come out.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write and publish more books, what else? 🙂

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take Ariana Franklin’s historical romantic suspense series where the main heroine is a female doctor in Medieval England. I already read every book of the series twice, and I could definitely read it again.
So, that would be the maximum allowance. But if we could count it as 1 box, then I would add “Of Love and Other Demons” by Marquez, and “Eleven Minutes” by Coelho.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born and raised in Southern California. I’m the oldest of seven kids. Seven. My house was always loud and with little to no privacy. It was nice, though, in the long long. Because we were in somewhat tight quarters, I developed close relationships with my siblings. We’re all still really close today, even though not all of us live in the same state.
I started writing stories as soon as I learned how to hold a pencil. I loved to make up characters and grand adventures. Well, grand to my seven-year-old self. My first series was fiction. I wrote them when I was around seven or eight, and titled them “The Slena Stories.” I don’t remember much about them – just a girl named Slena who would go see exotic lands. Those little one-page novellas were the start of my writing career, though.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called “Entwined Paths.” It is the second installment in my Swift Shadows series. It was inspired by about a hundred other books. Whenever I read a new book and like what happens, or even dislike, I take what someone else wrote and twist it into something that works for me, or something even better than what I read before. Without other authors, I’m not sure any of my own works would exist.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to write everything out by hand first. When I write the outline, the paragraph blips, and then the official first bit of actual storytelling. All done by hand. I can’t think as well when I’m staring at a computer screen. It used to make writing take twice as long until I found an amazing app for my iPad. The app lets me write out everything I want by hand and then a quick double-tap of my finger turns my handwritten words into typed out pages ready for exporting to a word docx. My iPad is my lifesaver.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many authors have inspired me! My absolute favorites, though, are Madeleine L’Engle, Gerald N. Lund, Sarah J. Maas, Victoria Hanley, and Gerald Morris. Each one wrote books that have become a part of me and drove me to write better. Madeleine L’Engle introduced me into the world of fantasy when I was eight or nine. From then on, I devoured books with magic and dragons and feats of courage. I hold my love of fantasy largely because of her.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on Book 3 of my Swift Shadows series. It will be titled, “A Pair of Silver & Teal.” This should be the final book in the series. I’ll most likely write some side novellas about supporting characters in the series, but APOSAT will be the end of following Emry and Declan.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Bookstagram! If you’re not on Bookstagram, you should be. It’s a phenomenal community of book bloggers, authors, and average readers all sharing what we love most: books! I’ve met some amazing people on there. It’s such a positive, wonderful place.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read and write. Every day. Reading helps your writing as you discover the different styles and flows of other authors. Writing every day is just good practice. Like riding a bike, it takes practice to become a good writer.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It was actually in a poem by Robert Service. The poem is called “Carry On” and I think it was written after WWI. The whole thing is truly inspiring, but the best advice I’ve ever had was in those opening lines: “It’s easy to fight when everything’s right, and you’re mad with the thrill and the glory.” Those words remind me to keep going, even when everything seems hard and impossible. Life is work, but that doesn’t mean it can’t also be rewarding.

What are you reading now?
I actually just finished a book last night. I read “The Forgotten Book” by Mechthild Gläser. I read it in one day, so it’s a quick read. I really liked it, though. The story was great and the cover is gorgeous!

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing. It’s my life. I have plenty more stories within my head in need of sharing. I think I’ll be writing until I die.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Easy. I’d bring the ACOTAR series, The Seer & the Sword, The Squire’s Tales, and my own books – because the characters within them are my friends and I’d want them to keep my company on this desert island.

Jacqueline Simonds

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve loved writing and reading as long as I can recall. But I was discouraged from writing in my 20s and sort of stuffed it away. I had the opportunity to return to college in my 30s and was encouraged to write again. I even submitted a (terribly earnest) novel for my senior thesis. I wrote Captain Mary, Buccaneer after I graduated. This was before the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and no agent would touch a “pirate book for adults,” so I self-published – doing everything wrong. But I learned, and became an expert in self-publishing, started a publishing company that put out 12 books (some award-winning); a publishing consultancy and book packaging company (33 books and counting); and a distribution company that had 42 titles. Somewhere in there I published The Self-Publisher’s FAQ. It wasn’t until I got sick and shut down most of my businesses that I realized all I ever wanted to do was write. But WHAT to write? I went back to ground and wrote a “King Arthur and Merlin from a nobody’s POV” now called The Priestess of Camelot, which is the prequel to the Heirs of Camelot series. The books in the series are The Midsummer Wife (Book 1), The Solstice Bride (Book 2), and coming soon Mistress of the Rose Moon (Book 3), plus the prequel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book out in the series is The Solstice Bride (Book 2), which came out November 2019. I never intended to write a series, and didn’t want to. But then I got to the end of Book 1 and realized that there were 2 ways the action suggested things wind up, and I’d committed to one that was… well, the wrong result. That meant I HAD to write Solstice so that I could show the work it takes to correct what went wrong. Book 3 is what goes right… but that has a lot of consequences, too.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nope. I just sit here in my basement domain (my office is in the basement) and type away, listening to music and trying to stay off the internet.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read a LOT, so that’s asking how high is the sky. I’ll go back and read something I devoured some years ago, and think, “Oh, that’s where that element comes from.” A big mistake with new writers is that they are afraid to read in their own genre, fearing they will look too much like others. At first, you WILL look a little “fan-fic.” That’s OK, every writer starts that way. But with practice, you’ll develop your own style.

What are you working on now?
I am finishing the final book in the series, Mistress of the Rose Moon (Book 3). It’s with a betareader. I hope to have it out by mid-year.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still searching for that magic bullet. Haven’t found it yet. I really enjoy going to cons and connecting personally with readers. My website, which I post to on a rathe whimsical schedule, is http://www.jcsimonds.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Your first draft will be terrible. You may think it’s terrific when you finish it, but it’s not. After you’ve rewritten it a bunch of times, there will be little resemblance between it and the final form. Don’t be afraid to completely trash the whole thing and start again. Twice I’ve written books that readers told me didn’t work and I had to split the book in 2 and start over.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t impose stupid deadlines on yourself. I hear many younger authors say that if they haven’t made it by age 30, they’re a failure. I was 40 when I first published my book (and started a whole publishing career). There was a guy who at 90 published his first book, which became a New York Times bestseller. Don’t give up. Don’t buy the lie of “success must come by” X-timeframe.

What are you reading now?
I just finished “Things in Jars” by Jess Kidd. It’s a surprising historical mystery featuring Victorian London and a female detective.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am trying out 2 different ideas for my next novel and hope to develop 1 of them into a completed first draft by the end of the year. I’ve just been asked to help edit an Urban Fantasy anthology, too.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Mists of Avalon, The Night Circus, The Little Prince

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Rolando Under the Coconut Tree and it was inspired strictly by my imagination and my eyes into the world of children. I taught elementary school for over twenty years before transferring to teach high school.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so except that I write wherever I go. even when I am listening or eating, sometimes, I am already writing the next story, whether it is for children or for adults.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Although I have also written novels, I would like to focus on the children’s side.
As for the children’s books, it would definitely be Dr. Seuss, Margaret Wise Brown, or Michael Rosen, but it would also be Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes and so many others.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on my next children’s book which should be released at the first of April 2020. I am so exciting because this is also an entrepreneurial venture for me.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I think that these days Amazon is my favorite website for promoting my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to always write -no matter what anyone says , no matter what anyone thinks, including yourself. Write what is true to your heart.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I think that the best advice I have ever been given is to write without fear and to edit without mercy.

What are you reading now?
I just finished reading Just Mercy which is an excellent book. But now I am turning my attention to How Not To Die which is a book my mother blessed me with for my birthday; she and I are on this healthy life journey together.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I think that I will continue with my childrens book line and maybe even a childrens poetry book.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That is such a difficult and unfair question because I love books and I collect them. But if I could only take four, they would be The Bible, a complete collection of Maya Angelou’s work, a complete collection of Shakespeare’s work, and maybe The Color Purple. (I love Purple.)

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have published one book, however I have been writing stories since I was fourteen. I love words! I learn one new word everyday and try to use that word three times within the day. Words spark much imagination!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Mystery Puzzle is an ancient, mystical, and magical being. The puzzle piece reached out to me several years ago. It has so many stories it wants to share with children all over the world.

The stories that The Mystery Puzzle tells deal with emotions and feelings in situations a child might encounter in their life or know someone who has.

The Puzzle slowly grows in picture pieces offering ideas and possible solutions helping the child figure out answers on their own.

The stories are as old as time, real in the moment, and helpful for the future.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well I like to eat Bugles when I write. Haha
I spend time absorbing all the natural beauty our planet offers us. I also observe and start conversation wherever I am in the moment. Seeing the world is beautiful art to my eyes, hearing the sounds are music to my ears, smells inspire lifetime events in my mind, touching things with my hands invokes feelings, and different tastes brings delight in my mind. I try to absorb everything in my life with all my senses and this inspires my writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love poetry, writing quotes, classic novels, books about family, romance, and life. So many talented authors across all genres. I read as I live life absorbing all that inspires and makes me happy. ♡♡♡♡

What are you working on now?
Currently, I am writing more Mystery Puzzle visits.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
TheMysteryOuzzleSeries.com

My official website.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write and read everyday! Stay true to your story and your craft.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stories have been written forever, but nobody has read your story yet…

What are you reading now?

What’s next for you as a writer?

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I discovered my love for writing in a bit of a weird way. I’m a middle child, so I grew up feeling like I didn’t get enough attention. At age thirteen, I started doing magic shows. That didn’t really get attention from my parents, until I started breathing fire.

While performing was a lot of fun, what I really enjoyed was planning routines. Planning a magic trick was a lot like creating a story.

You begin with a hook. I will attempt to escape this locked box! I will try to read your mind! I will pull a rabid chihuahua from my hat!

You face obstacles to achieving your goal. I will do this blindfolded, handcuffed, and for very little pay!

You even have an antagonist, that kid in the back row who announces how he thinks the trick is done. Invisible thread! Mirrors! Trap doors! A hidden monkey!

At last, you conquer the obstacles and reach a final dramatic climax, usually announced by the sacred magic words “Ta-da”.

After a few years, I decided that writing was more fun than performing, and had a lot less risk of being heckled. (This was before I knew about internet trolls.) I turned to writing short stories. I write science fiction, horror, fantasy, steampunk, cyberpunk, anything weirder than real life.

Although I mostly write speculative fiction, my first novel was a mystery. “They Ate The Waitress?” is the story of a murder at a restaurant for wealthy cannibals. It’s Dirk Gently meets Transmetropolitan.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
For years, students have been coming to my website to ask me for writing advice. They ask about writing dialog, creating conflict, and character development, but most often what they need is a story idea to get them started. I decided to create the ultimate story ideas tool, so that students and writers would never have to sit and struggle to find something to write about.

Inspiration Overdose is a collection of over two thousand writing prompts, plus loads of tools and tricks to “remix” story ideas into something entirely new. The book can create over four septillion combinations. That’s more stories than anyone could possibly write in a lifetime, except maybe Stephen King.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My biggest influences are Christopher Moore, Douglas Adams, and other authors known for their sense of humor. I also read a lot of Philip K. Dick, William Gibson, and Hunter S. Thompson.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I am working on compiling my short stories into a collection which should be released by the end of the year.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have had a lot of success on Reddit. If you post a story or book at the right time and in the right subreddits, you can get thousands of clicks.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Start with characters. Give each character a goal, motivation, and conflict.

Goal – The thing they want to accomplish. This should be specific. Not just “fall in love”, but “find someone who loves me despite my ugly facial scar, and do it before prom”.

Motivation – Why they want to accomplish that thing. Why do they want to find love before prom? Is it so they can make their ex jealous? So they have someone to dance with?

Conflict – Their goals and/or motivation should put them in conflict with the other characters. Even if two characters are on the same “side” of the book’s overall conflict, they can still disagree about the right way to win the war, fight crime, launch a cake pops business, etc.

If all of your main characters have “GMC”, the plotting work should flow much more naturally and with much less effort.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Jiggle the handle.” – Dad

What are you reading now?
Currently, I am reading “The Definitive Book of Body Language: The Hidden Meaning Behind People’s Gestures and Expressions”. I decided to devote some time to studying body language to help communicate subtext during dialog scenes. If a character says something they don’t really mean, or says the opposite of what they mean, understanding body language is key to making that clear.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After I publish a couple of short story collections, I want to try my hand at my first series. There are a couple of trilogy ideas that have been bouncing around my head for ages. I would love to bring them to life and share them with the world.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, because it’s funny enough to keep me laughing during the hardest times.

Robinson Crusoe, so I could copy his survival plans.

My ancient copy of Oxford English Dictionary, because it’s big enough to use as a raft.

Fanicia Howard

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Fanicia Howard. I am Chicago native who has been residing in Atlanta for the past decade. My gift is writing poetry. I have been poems since I was ten years old and it was a fourth grade language arts teacher who encouraged me to tap into my gift and explore the possibilities of where it could take me. I have now published two chapbooks of poetry both available on the Amazon platform.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is named Heartstrings. It was inspired by my first book of poetry, Letters to an Anonymous Heart. Heartstrings is a sequel to my first book. Both books have the word heart in them because the theme of love is central to the subjects of the poems.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have one particular method for writing my poems. I am sporadic and write when a thought crosses my mind opposed to creating a schedule to brainstorm poems. I find it works best for me, personally, to write in the moment when the emotion is raw opposed to controlling to flow. Sometimes the poem comes before the title too and that may be considered a bit unorthodox to others.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Rudy Francisco, Nayyirah Waheed and Warsan Shire are three poets influenced me to write and publish my work. These three taught me how to embrace the style of personification when poetry and they also made me understand the purpose of the message is greater than the rules of grammar. Waheed and Shire are especially notorious for not conforming to the rules of grammar in their bodies of work.

What are you working on now?
I am currently drafting poems for a third chapbook installment of poetry.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use the Amazon platform primarily to promote my books. My goal this year is to create a website for supporters to directly purchase from me.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors is to do more executing than overthinking. Be confident, yet reasonable with the pricing of your product.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve received is to never underestimate your abilities or your gift. Everyone brings something special to this world and it would be a disservice of self to hide or neglect your attributes out of fear.

What are you reading now?
Works by the poet Rumi.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Next on my agenda is to begin hosting and participating in events for poets and writers such as spoken word events and book readings.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Three books I would take with me if stranded on a desert island would be the Bible, The Alchemist, and The Four Agreements.

Geoff Barra

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As a passionate, and not untalented, sportsman I became highly proficient in many sports in my youth and went on to study all aspects of sport, fitness and psychology at Leicester DeMonfort University. I also trained and qualified as a Physical Education (and Art) teacher.
In early 2013 I become ‘awakened’ to the true reality we are experiencing in our current life-spans. I went on to study the equivalent of a PhD in meta-physicality and quantum physics, and all aspects of incorporeal existence.

I have combined my extensive background in physiology, psychology and Biology with my new found knowledge covering all aspects of ‘reality’ to create a series of Success books to help people alter and improve any negative aspect they are experiencing in their life – be it related to weight loss, health, fitness, mindset, money or relationships.

At the present time Jan 2020 I have published 5 books – I am currently working on my next 3…

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book I – “The World is FU_KED!”

I do not often swear without extreme emotional provocation – however, it would take a Saint (and I do not profess to be one) not to use profanity when tackling issues concerning the absolute disdain for humanity that has been, and is ever being, shown for everyone else in the world, by the ruling Cabal

There is no more apt way of describing the damage this Cabal’s influence and power has bestowed upon the world and the human race…except they have ‘fu_ked it up’ for everyone.

In this thesis I explore the ways that life is manipulated to suit the controlling Cabal and to ensure a ‘common’ Reality is accepted that is highly beneficial to them, rather than to each individual.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write only with passion – perhaps this is not unusual – but, if I can’t ‘feel’ everything I write – I do not write it.

ALL my writing is the result of thorough research, dot-connecting and critical thinking. I do not glibly write about, or include in my books – any mainstream accepted ‘knowledge’ – which is always highly controlled – and mainly written for propaganda and indoctrination purposes. I do not waste words.

I guess I am pretty unusual in that I write for intelligent readers, rather than for the mass commercial market – of course, this reduces my sales, but what price integrity?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
To be truthful I am influenced by very few writers – because there are very few writers who are not simply catering for the mass market and optimal sales.

I like to think I am pretty unique in writing about alternate knowledge and beliefs, but in a way that is empathetic – and entertaining (I hope) for the reader. I do not preach!

What are you working on now?
Currently I am working on my second and third novels, based on…not true stories – but on highly researched, true scenarios.

In ‘Kiss off an Angel’ I am exploring the world of past life regression – and revisiting my own past life as a ‘Grimsby Chum’ – one of the units involved in the very first charge in the Battle of the Somme. It is a highly emotionally charged alternate (the truth) view point of a devastating war waged not for glory or King and Country but for base corporate profit and geopolitical intrigue!

‘The Quanta Program’ is a novel based on as much truth as it is possible to find about the ‘Cern’ experiments – of a handful of years ago. During an experiment to test the theoretical power of the collider to its absolute maximum, the Hadron Collider rendered a tear in the very fabric of energetic existence and opened a minute portal into a nearby dimension…through which the head of the Cern experiments was sucked through. I explore her experiences in different dimensions.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am a writer – first and foremost for myself. I have not even thought about promoting my books to an audience before now – so my knowledge of promotion is limited…as yet!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I cannot advise other authors…because I guess most are writing commercial purposes. I do not.

I personally don’t like authors who glibly (unknowingly probably) simply repeat, or state false information, in their books, gleaned from mainstream ‘knowledge’, without any critical thought. I guess, if the mass majority believe something – then it becomes ‘fact’ (whether it is or not). And if it is thus a ‘fact’ it is safe to use in a book for the masses.

However, all this does is propagate the false reality we are being forced to live in. Banal escapism is not for me.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Best advice? Remember who you are! And if you cannot remember – then find out! For everyone’s sake.

What are you reading now?
Synchronicity drives my reading, and my information seeking. I am currently pursuing the (real) truth about life and reality. John Hammer’s ‘The Falsification of History’ is my current go-to book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My next project is to refine and finally complete my ‘Plant & Grow Your Personal Success’ course- which (I can say confidently) will be one of the most comprehension self-development courses on the Internet – it will certainly be the most unique!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I am sorry to say this…not good for book sellers, but, if I was stuck on a desert Island I would take 3 – 4 blank note books, and write my own books to read.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written eight independently published books and four traditionally published books. I’ve written Viking historicals and contemporary mystery/suspense novels. Currently, I’m focused on writing cozy mysteries, such as my Exotic Pet-Sitter Series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My upcoming release, Belinda Blake and the Birds of a Feather, focuses on amateur sleuth Belinda Blake, who travels from her rented house in Greenwich, CT, to her family in Upstate NY for a funeral. Belinda gets tapped to “bird-sit” some homing pigeons…and gets tangled up trying to catch a ruthless and creative killer.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I play video games to unwind between writing stints. I find that’s unusual for women authors. Belinda Blake, my cozy mystery sleuth, is also a gamer girl.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Agatha Christie is one author I can actually reread time and time again. I also love the classics, like Far from the Madding Crowd by Hardy or The Mill on the Floss by Eliot.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a new cozy mystery series that will likely start releasing in 2020. It is set very close to my hometown in the quaint town of Lewisburg, WV.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Bookbub deals alongside ad stacking, like Awesomegang ads. 🙂

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be sure you get your most polished product out there, along with a fantastic book cover, especially if you’re independently publishing your debut novel.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The ones who don’t quit are the ones who get published. (For me, that meant independently publishing my debut and several other books before I was traditionally published).

What are you reading now?
Cleo Coyle’s Coffee House mystery series

What’s next for you as a writer?
More cozy mysteries! I feel it’s a natural fit for my character-driven, twisty-plot style.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Ordeal by Innocence by Agatha Christie, Vanity Fair by Thackeray, and Knowing God by JI Packer.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a busy wife and mom as well as a Special Education Teacher when I am not an author. I have written two books so far both dealing with teenage social issues from a Christian perspective. My first book, If these stars could talk deals with teen drinking as well as peer pressure all folded up into a love story. My Second book, When the stars align will be going live on 15 January 2020 and deals with teen pregnancy and adoption.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called: When the stars align.
I was inspired to write this book from a discussion I had with a teenage boy I taught who had just found out his girlfriend was pregnant and these topics came up. I wanted to be able to reach other teens to know that pregnancy is not the end and that God still loves them no matter what.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love eating Twizzlers and jelly sweets when I am writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
All the authors I have ever read in some way or another have had an influence on my writing. To name a few: Liz Isaacson, Judy Corry, Lynette Eason, Dee Henderson, Lacy Williams and I could go on and on even Robert Jordan has a place on that list.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on two books on is a Romantic Suspense that I am hoping to release in March 2020 and the other is a teen contemporary romance that I hope to release later in the year. The ideas keep on coming.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I think at this stage Social Media and word of mouth.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep on, keep writing. I read an excellent quote on Instagram that said, New Authors think that its all been said before, it has but not by you. I think that is fitting for anyone wanting to go into the book business. Everyone has a story to tell.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Work hard and it will pay off. It does and keep writing even if your first project fails, keep on.

What are you reading now?
I have just finished reading Wild Montana Skies by Susan May Warren and Oath of Honor by Lynette Eason.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to keep on writing and maybe, one day become a full-time author.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My first book most definitely would be my Bible, I wouldn’t go anywhere without it. Does my husband count as a book? My kids? No seriously, I would take Meant to be Mine by Becky Wade, Undetected by Dee Henderson and maybe The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan.

Manh Dang

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Manh Dang. I am a medical oncologist at the Clearview Cancer Institute in Huntsville, Alabama. I am married to Karen and we have a daughter named Emily and triplet sons named Mark, Blake, and Tray. Aside from a busy oncology practice, my passion is doing medical missions, traveling, writing, dabbling in photography, and simply driving through the countryside at dawn. I am a new author and my first book is due for release on 1/21/2020.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Fields: Our Journey through Medicine, Mission, Life, and Faith is the name of my book. It is a compilation of my inspirational Facebook posts over the years. The inspirations for these posts came from my family, friends, colleagues, staff, patients, sometimes strangers, and oftentimes from spending quiet times with God. The book discusses the challenges of life, especially from the medical perspective, the beauty of God’s creations and human relationships, the need to care for the least among us through mission works, and appreciation for the simple gifts of life. 100% OF THE PROCEEDS OF THIS BOOK WILL BE DONATED TO:
1. The Russell Hill Cancer Foundation (to aid poor and/or uninsured cancer patients in and around North Alabama).
2. Project Abundant Life (a transitional housing ministry for single moms in Madison County, Alabama).
3. Bessong Ministries (to aid poor and/or divorced, downtrodden people in North Alabama, and hospital and cancer center chaplaincy).
4. Until They Know Ministry (a ministry for poor Haitians and Dominicans in and around Puerto Plata, the Dominican Republic).
5. Desert Rose Ministries (ministries to rescue girls from forced marriages, FGM, and to reach the unreached people in Kenya, Africa).
6. Kenya Relief (a ministry to rescue, house and educate orphans, and to provide medical care for the poor people in Migori, Kenya, Africa).

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
In my case, the inspirations sometimes came at odd times. I wrote some of my pieces at 2 or 3 am while I was on call and couldn’t sleep. Sometimes I wrote while walking from my clinic to the hospitals, or while walking from one patient’s room to another. One time while driving, I had to stop at a gas station and wrote. I was afraid the words would leave my head if I didn’t put them down on paper (or in my case, my iPhone, lol). Most of the times, I wrote after going through emotional highs or lows (after seeing the beauty of God’s creations or goodness of humanity; after witnessing suffering from poverty, hunger, or illnesses; or after losing a patient to cancer, etc.) When the inspirations came, words would flow fluidly. I struggled when I tried to force the process. I may be wrong but I think that’s the norm for most authors.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Love Does by Bob Goff, Windows of the Soul by Ken Gire, Wild at Heart by John Eldredge, The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman, and Desperate for Hope by my friend Bruce Martin are some of my favorite books and authors. They have undoubtedly, in someway, helped shape my outlook on life and faith.

What are you working on now?
Honestly, at the moment, I’m working on marketing my book. This is uncharted territory for me and the learning curve is steep, lol. But I don’t stop writing and hopefully, I can put the manuscript together for a second book in a year or so.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As a newbie, I honestly don’t know. Hopefully by advertising on websites like this one, on goodreads, BookBub, Amazon Marketing Service, etc. would help to promote this book. I have a couple of invitations to speak at book clubs so far. I also plan on a book-signing event or two.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m probably not qualified to answer this question as I’m a new author myself. But I would say, for me, the most satisfying feeling about publishing a book is that I knew I wrote it from my heart and with a purpose. I did a lot of homework before having this book published, but that didn’t seem enough as I learned along the way, there was always a better way of doing things and I wish I had done some things differently. In the end, even before putting the manuscript together, I gave the whole project to God. I did my best but it’s up to Him to use it according to His will. So, I guess my advise would be: believe in yourself, trust God, and go for it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write! You will never know how much your words can impact others!

What are you reading now?
Waking the Dead by John Eldredge

What’s next for you as a writer?
Working on the second book. Maybe I’ll give it the title The Streams?

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A Bible (I know I’ll be praying and studying the Word even more in that situation), The Ultimate Guide to Surviving in the Wild by Clive Gifford, and God’s Message for Each Day by Eugene H. Peterson

Devi Nina Bingham

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
(Devi) Nina is an award-winning Author and life voyager who strives to inspire conscious living and conscious dialogue. She writes books that are electric with honesty and passion, causing readers to explore topics such as the soul. Devi earned an AA in Psychology, a BA in Applied Psychology, and an MS in Mental Health Counseling. She is also a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Certified Sound Therapist. However, her passion is writing as her award-winning books suggest. She is the author of 3 books of poetry and one recovery workbook, “Never Enough: A Recovery Workbook.” Her 5th book is a therapeutic handbook on Borderline Personality Disorder: “CCCT Therapy: For Borderline Personality Disorder.” Her 6th book, “Once The Storm Is Over: From Grieving to Healing After The Suicide of My Daughter” was published by Big Table Publishing in 2015. In January 2020, Nina will publish, “Messages From Metatron: A Course in Self-Transformation.” She has written 9 books, the last 3 are an Archangel series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
If you liked, “A Course In Miracles” you will love, “Messages From Metatron: A Course In Self-Transformation.” Readers are calling it “captivating” and “astounding.” This channeled masterpiece offers 30 messages from the highest Archangel, Metatron. It includes a Study Guide with questions and exercises for individuals or groups. Devi Nina Bingham has compiled an extraordinary program for self-transformation, assisting men and women in discovering their purpose, or “Life Chart.” In a series of irresistible dialogues, “Messages From Metatron” stretches the limits of what is known about the Cosmos to the breaking point. An absorbing read that will convince you of the reality of angels! It was inspired by the death of my teen daughter.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am channeling books now, which is an unconventional way to write a book. And the books are transmitted by Archangels, also unusual source material for a book.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Psychic Sylvia Browne’s books about the Other Side have influenced me. Not only did she give outstanding descriptions of life after death, but she was unapologetic about her gifts as a psychic, which allowed me to forge ahead unapologetically about the psychic gifts I have.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently editing the 2nd Archangel book, “Ten Archangels Teach You How To Live An Inspired Life.”

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My Amazon.com author page: https://www.amazon.com/author/ninabingham

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be an original voice. Do take inspiration from other best-selling authors in your genre, but don’t be a copy-cat. Say what you have to say in your own style, using your unique voice as a writer. Whatever is strange, odd or unusual about you will be your selling point.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Best advice was from my publisher who adminished me during my re-writes to devulge the deepest, hidden thoughts and emotions within me to readers. At first I was horrified by what she was saying. But after the publication of my autobiography, “Once The Storm Is Over” that won literary awards, I understood the wisdom of what she had said. You must make your books both relateable and believable, so sharing the most intimate and vulnerable parts of your life with the reading audience is crucial to a well written and engaging book.

What are you reading now?
“Songs of Earth & Power” by Greg Bear.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After the Archangel series of 3 books are published, I have no idea what character I will channel next, or even if I will continue channeling. I am an eclectic writer in that I’ve published modern poetry, 2 psychology books, an autobiography, and a series of Archangel channelings. The only thing similar about them are that they are of the genre of non-fiction.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Because I am a Hindu, I would bring the Bhagavad Gita. The rest would be survivial books, of course.

Alfi Pagan

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a writer and college student with my own business. I never thought I’d be an author in my lifetime. I’m sure many people already have the thought of being a writer as a career. However, it kind of just came to me. I’ve always been a fan of reading and being able to learn new things. Isn’t it fascinating how you can read someone’s 20 years of experience through trials, tribulations, and knowledge all in one book? That’s exactly why I enjoy writing and being able to share with the world. I love to write books about things that matter and being able to know that every single person that reads any of my books will learn at least one thing from them that may be carried with them throughout their lives. I have many hats in my life and enjoy being able to build my Empire. However, writing is one of the most important ways that I’m able to express the importance of different things in life that I know will help anyone who lays their eyes on my pieces. I’ve written over 30 books and am releasing them all of 2020. My first book being released is called “Habits: The 7 Positive Power Habits That Will Change Your Life.” It’s compacted with knowledge of different mentors, personal experience, and elite books out in the industry today. I like to get straight to the point and paint a picture for the reader so it’s clear and well understood. One of the most important things to me as a writer is to help elevate one’s mind and not write and put anything out that doesn’t have the intention of positive change.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I have an unreleased book, but will be released very soon called “Habits: The 7 Positive Power Habits That Will Change Your Life”. What inspired this book was the same reason that I’m inspired of all my books, which is positive change for anyone’s life. We all, sometimes, lose sight or even hope of our ambitions, dreams, goals, priorities, and even ourselves. This book in particular is designed to be straight forward to the core on the things we need to implement in our lives to help begin the process of great and genuine change. It all starts with the most powerful weapon of the universe, our minds.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When it comes down to unusual writing habits, I always like to free write when I least expect it. I’m a natural creator and always spark up ideas, which I write down. I set a timer of 10 minutes and just write without stopping. In the beginning, you’ll always feel this writer’s block, but you write anything your mind comes up with and will continue to write. Right before you know it, your mind is fixed onto an idea and you begin writing what you subconsciously are thinking about. It’s a mechanism I was taught back in second grade. I’ve done it ever since and now, I write high valued books available for anyone in the world to read. If you’re an aspiring writer and want to know any good techniques, that’s by far one of the best I can say from nearly two decades of experience.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
“Piece of Cake” by Cupcake Brown is one of my favorite books. It takes you on a journey of such an incredible and empowering story. The way the author writes makes you feel every single emotion of the main character. That right there is EXACTLY how I write in my own way. I think conveying emotion into the reader is how it may reach someone’s mind and actually be able to soak up valuable information. I’d highly recommend this book for a good read as well!

What are you working on now?
Well, I’m a creator of all sorts. I’m constantly writing and creating valuable books with amazing content. Right now, I have a book on self love that is almost done, and I just have so books I’ve done overtime that I hope to help be reached to thousands and maybe even millions of people one day. My goal is to help you learn one thing from every book you read and use this valuable information in your everyday life.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
When it comes to promoting books, I’d say use any and every platform you may have your hands on. If you want your book to be reached out to many people, you have to put in the work for it.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors is to always write about what you’re truly passionate about. Good writing comes from the passion that burns inside of you. If you’re looking to make a quick buck from writing, then why become a author? Literature to a reader is all about being able to escape reality through the use of words and a book. When you write out of passion, people can feel that passion through your writing and that’s exactly how you’re able to gain a fan base and be successful. Be genuine, be smart, and always keep being creative.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is from my parents. That advice is to work harder than everybody else. I’m a successful guy with different hats and being a genuine author that writes 100% of all my material isn’t easy. When everyone else is sleeping, I’m up doing more and more and more. I think it’s important to really know how important time really is. Every second that passes by, you’re unable to ever get back. So, you have to work harder than everybody else and use your time wisely and efficiently in anything you do. Of course, always take some time off, but don’t ever cheat yourself saying, “I’ll get back to it tomorrow.” Tomorrow becomes next week, next month, next year… Before you know it, you’re stuck in the same place that you were at when you were 23 years old and wake up and now you’re 35. If this happens to be you, always know that it is NEVER too late. Everyday is a new chance to start over and start fresh. It’s all about your mindset and your true intentions along with your vision of what you want. Remember, you’re limitless.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading James Patterson books. He’s author who bases all of his books on the crime/suspenseful genre. I, personally, love to read things that will stimulate my mind and force it to draw conclusions and connect pieces. I think constant mind stimulation is what grows your mind and helps unlock more creative aspects of yourself that you may have never known you have.

What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, I want to continue to write and promote my books. I have so much knowledge of so many different things in life that I want to share with the world. What I love is that my books are so straight to the point and always offer imagery for my reader to gain an understanding of what exactly is being explained in my books. I like to make sure my reader doesn’t ever finish my pieces confused or with questions. I like to lay it out like a blueprint. Once you have the blueprint, you apply it to yourself in any way, shape, or form that will benefit you.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring “Piece of Cake” by Cupcake Brown. “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, and “Habits: The 7 Positive Power Habits That Will Change Your Life” by Me, Alfi Pagan. ( A little self promo doesn’t hurt, right)?

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a psychiatrist, veteran, and aspiring author. Having lived all over, I try to put that wealth and variety of experience into everything I write. My characters tend to be reflections of myself or of some of the incredible people I’ve met in my travels.

So far I have written and published seven novels via Amazon kdp, with one more in the works. There are also two or three I’ve completed but misplaced the digital files for the manuscripts, because…well, because ADD.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book to go up is ‘Tag Mattox and The Unhaunting of Mrs Hubbard’s Cupboard’, which is the third in my series geared towards grade schoolers. I’ve written them with the help of my daughter who was in the fourth grade when we started the project. It started as something to do with her, and it’s turned into one of the favorite things I’ve ever written.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I fluctuate between painfully slow, distracted writing and unhealthy hyper-focus. At least, that’s how my wife describes it, especially when she is trying to get my attention. On the bright side, I’ve been able to write while taking care of my small children, while at work, and even while sitting in a war zone.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury has long been my favorite book, just something about how it encapsulates the magic of childhood. The Hornblower series got my mind on adventure. Those old Choose Your Own Adventure books put me in the action. Stephen King showed me the limitless nature of imagination.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a few short stories as well as plotting out the next book in the Tag Mattox series, in the which he will have the opportunity to perform in a trans-dimensional magic show…and hopefully survive.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t have one. This is where I have fallen flat thus far. I dream. I write. I spend a lot of time in my own head, which is a fun place, a place of stories and wonderment. It is not a very accessible place to the masses, but my goal for this is to spread my wings and put myself and my work out there.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Hold yourself to a standard. Find some way of enforcing on yourself a time to write, an amount to write, and a level of quality.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Go and do.

What are you reading now?
Just finished ‘The Disaster Artist’ and looking for that next book to read.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully, great things. I’ve joined a writing group, and I’m finding other ways to get out and interact with other writers, readers, and the world in general. It’s time to expand, grow, and launch.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Basic Survival Guide, Guide to Edible Plants, How to Dress Wild Game, and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Sydney, Australia, where I worked a disparaging collection of jobs after finishing high school, including being a combat medic for the Australian Army for over five years. In 2015, at the age of 29, I was sentenced to two-years imprisonment for firebombing a home, with the sentencing magistrate stating that my motivation appeared to be ‘vigilante action’. Someone in my family was sexually assaulted, and I aimed to get retribution against her attacker. I have written one book, which I completed by hand while I was in prison.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My debut novel, Scarred, was inspired by my crimes and subsequent prison sentence. I took my story and exaggerated it, turning the main character into a caricature of myself. In a nutshell I knew first hand how much I needed to be pushed to commit a crime, so I experimented with my main character, seeing how far I could push him before he turned into a serial killer. From there I just rolled with the idea to see where his poor life choices would take him.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Aside from writing by hand in prison? Haha not really, I just like to be consistent. Now that I’m on the outside and have access to a computer I try to aim for typing a couple thousand words a night. I’m also a post-graduate student though so sometimes all of my energy for writing goes straight into essays!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The only book they had in the prison library on the subject or writing was Stephen King’s ‘On Writing’. I’ve looked at a couple others since getting out of prison, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s the only one you need to help you.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently writing an autobiography. People keep telling me that while my novel is interesting, the story behind how I wrote it is even more so. You can be the judge of that if you read both.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still in the early stages of promoting my first book, so you’ll have to get back to me about that after I’ve got a couple under my belt!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t get disheartened by rejection letters. I got twelve rejection letters from publishers over three before I was offered a contract.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
What you know makes you unique. Write about what you know.

What are you reading now?
Under the Dome by Stephen King.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ve been booked to give a couple talks at writer’s festivals this coming year, about the experiences of writing a novel in prison. Talking about my novel in front of an audience is going to be a new experience, which I am both excited and pretty nervous about. I also aim to have the first draft of my autobiography finished within the next couple months.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s a touch one for me, because I rarely read a book more than once. But I’d have to go with Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein, The Chrysalids by John Wyndham and IT by Stephen King.

I live in England close to the Shropshire hills. My first novel is called Distorted Days and later this year I will launch my second novel. I used to work as an English teacher before writing full time.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
It’s called Distorted Days which hinds at the psychological theme of the novel when the main character, Doris, has an obscured perception of her reality because of depression. Doris finds solace and friends through reading. I love spending time in libraries, not just reading but watching people come and go. The library is Shrewsbury provided the basis for the setting which is especially beautiful and historic.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My faithful dog Maddy spends her day snoozing by my side from the office I work in. I like peace and quiet so find working from home is the most productive space.

What authors, or books have influenced you?

I studied Literature at university which exposed me to Dostoevsky and Kakfa, among many others. What are you working on now?
I’m finishing my third novel The Entrepreneur and working on a collection of poems.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m new to self-promotion and still finding my way to interact with readers through my website and Twitter and attending local events.

Do you have any advice for new authors?

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
PMA: positive mental attitude.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
So far I have written two books. My first was my autobio “Consistently Persistent, Living with the Tourette Trifecta.” The following is a short encapsulation of my history.

I grew up in Southeast Dallas, Texas ( That section of Dallas is known as Pleasant Grove. Trust me when I say, it was anything but pleasant. ) It was and still is a very rough part of Dallas. Unbeknownst to me at the time I had been born with Tourettes Syndrome ( TS ), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder ( OCD ), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ( ADHD ). During the mid-1990’s I coined the phrase Tourettes Trifecta to describe my situation. My father was a violent alcoholic, my mother was an addict, and my brother was both. I developed PTSD before I was 16 because of how violent my father was or so says Dr. Vasavada, a psychiatrist.

Now for the good stuff. After dropping out of high school in the eleventh grade ( The 2nd time thru. This is very misleading because about twenty years later it would be determined that my IQ is 141 which is genius level. It turns out that I was just bored in high school. ) So, I joined the military in the hopes of escaping the daily bullying from the neighborhood kids. Unfortunately, that did not go as planned. I was still being bullied because of the tics that are part of the trifecta.

Finally, I was kicked out of the Navy because in their estimation I had not been able to “Adapt to military life”. That was the understatement of the year. I still had not yet been officially diagnosed. During the 21 year period between the date of my separation from the Navy on June 24, 1971 and the date that I was officially diagnosed, March 22, 1992, I was fired more than 200 times. That is not an exaggeration. In fact the Social Security Administration classified me as 100% disabled in Dec. of 1992. The reason I was fired was always the same. “Mark, we like you, your honest, dependable and loyal. Man, you work harder than anyone here. “But you just do not fit in.” I went though girlfriends just about as fast as I did jobs. I was never able to understand why the ladies never wanted to stay around me for very long. Particularly because I had been classified as extremely good looking when I was only 15 by a 25-year-old woman that was friends with my mother.

The emotional pain of living with the undiagnosed Trifecta become so overwhelming that I attempted suicide three different times during my twenty’s. In March 1992 the psychiatrist that I was seeing finally told me. He said, “Mark, I may not yet know exactly what is going on. But there is one thing that I DO know about you. You have a will to survive like I have never seen before. You are the type of guy that if you were in a plane crash up in the mountains and everyone on that plane was killed except for you. It would be because you were the one son of a bitch on that pane that absolutely REFUSED to die. Ten days later you would come walking out of those mountains. Frostbit, but you would be breathing.”

I always knew that I was extremely strong-willed. I just had no idea why. My first wife Judy was a very attractive, sweet, highly intelligent ( Yes I know. Then why in the hell did she marry me. Good question! If I ever figure it out I will let you know. ) The marriage lasted exactly 8 years and 5 months to the day. We got divorced in August of 1980.

About 8 years later I met and married my second wife. We have now been married going on 33 years. She was a practicing Ophthalmologist in the Philippines. Both of the women that I have been married to are extremely intelligent. They just have lousy taste in men. Judy graduated as the valedictorian of her high school graduation class of 923. My second wife was the valedictorian of her medical school graduating class. I do not marry dumb women. Our daughter is just as intelligent as Mom. She also has an enormous amount of plain old fashion common sense. ( I keep wondering about who her father might be because a kid like that cannot possibly be mine.)

For the next twenty-seven years I was self-employed. I owned a residential maintenance business. When I was sixty-four I started writing. Since then I have written three books, and more articles than I can even remember that have been published in other people’s books, magazines, Newspapers, ( I was an Op-ed columnist for The Dallas Morning News for about a year. ) and online than I can even remember.

This will give you a very good idea of what kind of life I have lived. My complete autobiography is currently for sale on Amazon. It is titled “Consistently Persistent, Living with the Tourette Trifecta.” It has been anything but dull. Trying as hell maybe, but never boring.

So, that’s all. I hope you enjoy reading about your average run of the mill John Doe.

You might also want to check out my website about bullying at http://bullyingdosanddonts.com .

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name is “My Do’s and Dont’s for Raising a BUlly-Proof Child. This book was inspired by what I endured as I was growing up with undiagnosed Tourettes, OCD, ADHD, and PTSD. I was not officially diagnosed until I was 43. I endured bullying in ways most people have never even heard of.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know that I would say my style is all that unusual. But I have been told many times that I write exactly the way I talk, in a very conversationalist manner. I have also been told many times that the way I write is very easy to read.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
None that come to mind right now.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a series of children’s books. The tentative title for right now will be “Little Bit, The Black Belt Kitty and Bella visit…..” They will be visiting many different countries. Each book will have a dual purpose. 1) To teach the reader something about a country that they are not likely to already be familiar with. 2) To teach some particular beneficial trait. i.e. Courtesy, manners, respect, responsibility, Honesty, etc. etc. I have no set number of books that I will produce as of right now.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesomegang.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write from the heart. Write about things that you have a passion for. What you write will sound far more sincere. You are not likely to run out of things to write about if you have a real passion for the subject.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Never, Never, Never, Never Give up” — Winston Churchill

What are you reading now?
Books about Social Media. I am trying to learn how to become very good at Internet marketing using Social Media.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Trying to make a living and helping to stop bullying. Particularly any child that has a disability. I am actually classified as 100% disabled.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Books about Facebook, Youtube, Pinterest, and Linkedin. If I am never rescued I will be the best social media informed hermit.

Sherri Simmons

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Sherri Simmons is a wife and a mother to her beagle K.B. She is the oldest of four children (two sisters and one brother) and the aunt to three nephews. She has been an educator in the Chicago Public Schools for 14 years, where she has taught 3rd, 1st, Intermediate Math, served as an Assistant Principal, and is currently working as a STEM Integration Specialist. She is also the Founder and President of Young Ladies At All Times, NFP (Y.L.A.A.T.), a mentoring program for young girls and a member of Young Women’s Professional League (YWPL). She began writing Underneath the Hat in 2013 after her separation from her first husband. The book served as therapy for her to get through the ordeal. Due to the book, she has expanded her brand to a YouTube web series and a podcast of the same name. She hopes that others will be helped as they learn through her journey of rediscovering who she is by revealing what’s Underneath the Hat.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Underneath the Hat. I was in a low place where I was running away trying to avoid thinking about “Campbell” when a co-worker suggested that I write everything down. I started that day at Red Robin restaurant writing things down on napkins and soon I had an entire book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I begin by writing things on napkins, then as more things transpired I began to record myself speaking about it until I had the whole book on my phone. I love that I did it that way because so many people stated they loved the fact that they felt they were in the room with me while they read it, and that is exactly what I wanted.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Anything Terry McMillan. I have also read all of E. Lynn Harris’s books.

What are you working on now?
Now I am working on my 2nd book chronicling my journey with infertility.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
sherrisimmons.com. You can also find it on Amazon and wherever books are sold.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Tell your truth. Don’t worry about how others will take it. This is your story and your opportunity to heal and release so that you can be the best version of you. Every few years we change as people and in order to change you have to reflect and change and the only way to do that is to be YOU.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t set yourself on fire in order to keep others warm. I have to learn to take care of me first so that I can be whole enough to take care of others. Self-care is not selfish. It’s okay to take care of yourself Underneath the Hat.

What are you reading now?
Contracts and manuscripts for my next book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
to complete my 2nd book by the end of the 1st quarter and move on to writing my plays.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, anything by E. Lynn Harris, Zane, or Terry McMillan.

Johnny Was inspired by my life and adventures on the road as a professional musician.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to write in bars and coffee shops. Not that unusual, but the din of the busy room helps me to focus and sometimes gain inspiration for characters and scenes.

I am editing the third book in the Johnny Scotch series and I will begin editing my horror book for Not a Pipe Publishing in the Spring/Summer.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love doing readings/signings. I find that being in front of someone is the best way for me to convince them to pick up a copy of what I am writing. I also love doing conventions.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write even when it isn’t good. Put the pen to paper so you have something to work with later.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write hard and fast and edit slow and careful.

What are you reading now?
No current books in my rotation just because the holiday season was so busy with my music career.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Greetings, I am Joel, a writer from London, England. I have written 2 books. Not quite sure how.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Jim & Martha: A Novel on Eco Living

I wrote this novel having been interested in the subject of low-impact living such as ecovillages since 2010, and between then and now have conducted extensive research in this area. I visited an ecovillage during a festival just before its eviction, receiving important answers there too.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Beau Salts, and I was born and raised in the sunny south of the United States. I am a male registered nurse full-time, and writing has always been a strength. Made A’s in English college essay classes, and professors really liked my work. I engage in quite an active lifestyle, between work, exercise, writing, and many other pursuits. This book, “New Dad Words OF Wisdom” is my first published work. It’s a heads-up to first-time dads on the rudiments of newborn care, from the unique perspective of a male registered nurse. I’m pretty sure that being an RN professionally, and simultaneously a man would qualify me for the nontraditionalist category. 🙂

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
NEW DAD WORDS OF WISDOM: YOUR ROADMAP TO SUCCESS FOR TAKING CARE OF YOUR NEW BABY

This creation actually originated in my first year of nursing school. We were required to write a project on the topic of pregnancy, newborn care, etc. I chose to write mine on caring for a new baby, from the dad’s perspective. A couple of years later, I decided to take that project and greatly expand it, which is what I have done in this book. More research was done, and more chapters were added to the original version.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When writing about medical/health topics, I am obsessive about providing medically reliable/accurate information. However, I like to add a bit of fun to my writing as well. I don’t particularly like dry medical or health writing, and I think it would be a travesty to force such boredom on my readers. 🙂

What authors, or books have influenced you?
1) The Holy Bible
2) Michael Mathews (fitness author)
3) Dr. Don Colbert (health author)
4) Dr. Joseph Mercola (health author)
5) Dr. Andrew Weill (integrative health author)

What are you working on now?
I am working on completing my website/blog at https://www.thepilldude.com which will contain health/medical/miscellaneous information from a unique perspective.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I love music, movies, books and sports. I contribute a few words at PopMatters.com. I like to write experimental and satirical books that are rooted in realism. I focus on providing insights into the psychology and philosophy of the characters. My debut novel Romantic Guerrilla is available on Amazon. Fyodor Dostoevsky, Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, Mulk Raj Anand, Irvine Welsh, and Chuck Palahniuk are few of my favorite writers.
Twitter/Instagram: @dskbooks123

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The conflict between entrepreneurs and investors is real. It’s not outlandish to imagine an investor kicking out an entrepreneur. Few smart entrepreneurs play the game and become billionaires; other fools will be labelled as inefficient and forced to exit. This premise provided me with an inspiration to give a novel treatment to a real conflict in Romantic Guerrilla.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t write everyday to meet word count. I wait until it happens naturally. My writing is powered by tea and music.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Fyodor Dostoevsky, Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, Mulk Raj Anand, Irvine Welsh, and Chuck Palahniuk are few of my favorite writers.

What are you working on now?
Working on a few ideas to develop them into novels.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
