Ed Marohn

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Legacy of War is my first novel and book, although I have been published in numerous magazines: both fiction and non-fiction. I was an executive with Continental AG and Michelin Tire Corporation, both International Fortune 500 companies. Prior to my corporate career, I was a captain in the US Army (Airborne and Ranger trained) and served with the 25th Infantry Division and the 101st Airborne (Airmobile) Division in the Vietnam War, where I commanded a battery of 110 men. I was awarded three Bronze Stars, one Air Medal, and two Army Commendation Medals. Other military tours included Germany, Washington, DC, and The Netherlands as NATO Liaison (Dutch language trained by the US State Department). I served as the Assistant Professor of Military History at the University of Nevada, Reno. I have an MA in Counseling (psychology) from the University of Nevada, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Idaho.
After the corporate world, I volunteered for eight years as a VA facilitator for military veterans with PTSD. I served as Vice Chairman of the Idaho Humanities Council (National Endowment for the Humanities) and as Board Member of the Idaho Falls City Club. In 2014 I was elected to a four-year term to the Idaho Falls City Council. I wrote as a Local Columnist for the Idaho Falls Post Register.
In 2009 with my wife, Cathie, I returned to present-day Vietnam some thirty years after the war, where my novel, Legacy of War, took seed. I’m writing a sequel novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My novel is Legacy of War. This is my first book but readers are already asking about John Moore, my protagonist, as to what happens when he returns from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The book was inspired by my eight years of volunteering to facilitate a PTSD group for the Department of Veteran Affairs; my return to present-day Vietnam (the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) in 2009; Joseph Conrad’s “The Heart of Darkness”; and Moyer Safer’s “Flashbacks: On Returning to Vietnam”.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not certain this is unusual but I like to write both fiction and nonfiction.
In particular, I do enjoy writing creative nonfiction pieces and have had two published.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
These writers and their books influenced me: Joseph Conrad, Stephen King, John Updike, Tim O’Brien, William Manchester, Jon Krakauer–to list a few.

What are you working on now?
The sequel to Legacy of war.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
These web sites are important for both eBook and Print versions of Legacy of War: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, IndieBound, BookBaby BookShop. Of course, more info and links are available on my web site: www.writingsfromed.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write! There are too many distractions in the modern world and a writer should establish a daily routine to write, even if it is only a 1000 words a day. I have difficulty doing this myself as I am also focused on marketing my current novel, Legacy of War–and this is time-consuming.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s better to be forgiven for making a mistake while doing something than do nothing at all.

What are you reading now?
The Coming of the Third Reich by Richard Evans.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Next is my sequel to Legacy of War which I have started. I have also started in my mind a prequel book.
Essays and fiction pieces for magazines are always in the works. While all this is happening I am proactively marketing my novel with book signings and talks.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
2.Embers of War by Fredrik Logevall
3. The Big Burn by Timothy Egan

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an exciting individual that tries new hobbies and activities. I enjoy working in electronics and with computers. I have written many books. My first book I wrote was in elementary school in the fourth grade. The programs on television got me interested more in book writing. I also got interested from miniature comic books. I have written probably about 15 books. Best sellers and prized authors further got me into writing books that I wanted to make unique like no other and one of a kind.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Aero Travel Innovaton is my most recent novel. It is inspired by works by Richard Milton on balisor beacons across interstates. In which I created the story in my vehicle a 90’s Lincoln 4 door Continental all digital and fascinating. It became about a Russian family related to everyone on the planet in private. In which when the Governments around the planet would find out, they would pursue them and take them into custody where they would be incarcerated to the Government. Because with all of those capabilities they would have great wealth and much money around the planet.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like things like wax or ceramic museums where readers that read my book feel like they belong very permanent to an organization by fixture and installation.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been into reading many novels but I am into gooey and messy things. Therefore I don’t mind getting messy into things that the outcomes are not known for certain. I have been influenced by The Phantom of the Opera, R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps, Diary of Anne Frank, The Doll House, The House of Wax, The book of Merlin, Cromwell’s Inferno, Blackbeard the pirate.

What are you working on now?
Anastasia Express based on a locomotive train that perhaps existed many years ago in Asia. It would travel quite a bit but apparent the train disappeared and is yet to be located. I guess it is not surprising to think things like that become buried. My book is about the space cowboys of the Governments that came from a club in the cosmic realm. Which were known as the gaiety of Europe. In which John H. Hugghes would found the Oneida Community based on the cosmic galactic rulers and the earth as a reference book which would become the central confluence of the Governments and many of its community. Which apparently included notable people as Nicolas Romanoff emperor of Russia and Maria Federoavna empress of Russia and business persons all around the planet.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have found having my own personal websites to be of great success and happiness.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Try to find things to write from things that the communities are doing and the confluences of topics of science, math and great influences that characters make with others.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Working hard on things can lead to success.

What are you reading now?
nothing in particular only on feeling more part of communities and making more money in working with computers to increase my business.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Capitalizing on the wealth of the Oneida Community, create some educational novels, Make some books into magazines and videos. I would like to purchase a large castle and have hundreds of pickup trucks and a large club and be president of many countries as Nicolas Hugghes of Russia.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My book to be emperor of the Oneida Community and President of Russia as Nicolas Hugghes. One phone book, and novels on business management.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Waving from Canada’s Ocean Playground – Nova Scotia! I’m a numbers and words gal…I work in Accounting by day and writer by night. My love of books keeps me turning the page…and writing one page at a time. My love of the ocean and sunsets inspires me and my toes in the sand keep me grounded…except for the cold winters when I wear my flip flops in the house! Publishing romance since 2013…sometimes sweet…sometimes spicy…sometimes suspenseful. Variety is the spice of life! Over 50 published works in ebook, paperback, audiobook, foreign translation….and an exciting project of my first screenplay…almost done! Love to connect with my readers…they keep me smiling 🙂

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest release for the holiday season is Christmas In Crystal Creek…book 3 of my sweet young adult series ‘The Healing Hearts Ranch’ can be read as a stand-alone. My daughter inspired the series when she asked I write a YA for her age group…can we ever say ‘no’ to our kids? Therapeutic horses help heal hearts for those suffering from emotional or physical disabilities…and of course, a beautiful small town in the Montana mountains sets the stage for friendship, love, and warming stories shared. Little different from my spicy or suspense stories…but that’s the fun of writing!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Being a writer, I call all my writing habits usual lol
I write anywhere, everywhere, and wherever the moment inspires me!
But I do like to go down to my basement…I call it the ‘Bat Cave’ when I want to focus completely. And of course, when it’s warmer outside…the beach!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been an avid Danielle Steele reader since I was a teen. I love Agatha Christie and James Patterson. For my spicy read…I’d choose Carly Phillips. In between, I love to find a new author…there’s so many but I’m thankful there are…they help cure my addiction to read!

What are you working on now?
Editing that screenplay! And working on a new romance for my spicy romance readers and a new suspense series for 2020.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesome Gang of course! The first place I stop when I have a freebie to share. There are so many more that help with promoting to list…but I usually post on social media sites, my website, and my newsletter. Stop by my website…join my newsletter…receive a complimentary ebook of your choice of sweet, spice, or suspense. www.angelafordauthor.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never quit. Write from the heart. And cherish every review…good ones make your heart smile and not-so-good…well, they help us grow in our writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To always look for the positive in everything.

What are you reading now?
Carly Phillips – Going Down Easy
Time for a little spice to warm up the cold winter surrounding me!

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing my first screenplay and making 2020 a year for all my readers to enjoy some sweet, some spice, and some suspense!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A Danielle Steele, a James Patterson, and a Carly Phillips.

So far, I have published 2 novels and dozens of short stories and poems. One of the novels is a dystopian serial novel, published in 2019 through Bewildering Stories. The other is UNDERTONES, an anthropomorphic, humorous mystery, which is coming out in Paperback on Jan. 2, 2020.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
UNDERTONES explores a fantastical alternate universe, populated by animals. It pays homage in some ways to the tone of Raymond Chandler Noirs.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I prefer writing an revising to outlining and planning.

Chandler, Bradbury, Borges, Poe, Jack Vance, Gene Wolfe and everyone on my Goodreads shelves. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/19563977.L_S_Popovich

What are you working on now?
An epic fantasy. And revising unpublished novels.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Goodreads

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get better at writing. It is a process that lasts from infancy till death. In order to compete with the legions of other writers, improving every aspect of the process is the best way to stand out.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
On the topic of agents versus small publishers: where do I start. Agents have given me less feedback, support and enthusiasm than have small publishers.

What are you reading now?
Vollmann, Gene Wolfe, and books published by Open Letter Press.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to write a novel per year. I hope learning more about publishing in order to publish with greater frequency will get me to the next level.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, The Complete Works of Shakespeare, and Don Quixote.

Erica Stinson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I published my first book in 2015, a romantic-suspense about a woman who escaped domestic abuse being stalked by her ex, called “Broken Pieces”. This is a full-length novel in which a prequel was written afterward. Since that time, all of my books have been suspense-thriller or psychological-thriller.

In addition to writing, I like to knit, sew, cook, bake and I am an avid video-gamer. I spend the rest of my free time with my niece, Gianna.

I was born and raised in New York City. I still live in the same house of my youth, my family belonging to same community for over 72 years.

I have always enjoyed reading and would often read as many books as I was able to from a very young age.

I have recently completed my fifth novel, a suspense-thriller called “Shelter” that was released in February 2019.

I am currently at work on my next novel, “The Doctor” which will be released in late January 2020

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Doctor. I don’t quite know where I got the idea from, but I do like to read lots of suspense and thriller novels. I am also a horror movie addict(Annabelle, Halloween, The Conjuring, etc.)

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No really, but I do suffer from insomnia and that is when I come up with some really good story ideas.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Since I read a lot of suspense and thriller, I like Tess Gerritsen, Kate White, Gillian Flynn but I also read a lot of new and unknown authors. I am always on the hunt for a good thriller, regardless of who wrote it.

What are you working on now?
Believe it or not, I have already begun outlining my next book(which will be released Fall of 2020). I am not even taking a break because the story is simply bursting from me lol.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I usually post in a lot of groups on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I have a monthly newsletter that goes out on the 2nd Wednesday each month. I also have a blog that I am trying to incorporate things into in regards to my work. I am thinking of doing a Behind The Scenes type of thing. Something to give readers and fellow authors an insight on how I put together a book.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Join as many writing groups(I am in many)on Facebook for help and guidance. Get a good editor and someone that knows what they are doing to design your book cover. Learn all you can about book marketing to help get your book out there, and above all, KEEP WRITING!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The advice I just stated above. It really cannot be any simpler than that.

What are you reading now?
A couple of books in the thriller genre. One is called “The Last Wife” by Nicola Marsh and another is called “Like, Follow, Kill” by Carissa Ann Lynch. I haven’t read books by either author before, but the book descriptions(blurbs)pulled me in.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan on making a full-time career of this, as I have novel outlines for the next ten years. I also have a high-fantasy novel that I am planning to rapid-release as a series, written back in 1994. This will be done under a pen name so as not to confuse my readers with a completely different genre.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bone Garden – Tess Gerritsen
Sharp Objects – Gillian Flynn
and from my history of reading high-fantasy – The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan or(this is tough) The Elenium series by David Eddings

Susan Tilghman Hawthorne

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Susan Hawthorne and my books are published under S. Tilghman Hawthorne.
I’ve written several award-winning novels, including Bitter Prophecy,  Feather of the Blue Heron, The Christmas Angel and When Shadows Dance. They’re all published as ebooks on Amazon and When Shadows Dance is also published on Barnes and Noble, iBooks, Kobo, abs several other platforms!
I also am learning to design book covers, love to garden, and play with my two little dogs, Dixie and Zephra.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Christmas Angel. I realized that not everyone is filled with joy at Christmas. There can be a lot of reasons for this, but the one I chose to write about is loss.
My main character, Julie, lost her parents and younger brother the year before in a bad car accident. She was in the car also, but luckily survived.
A college student, she’s come home for Christmas and is having a hard time allowing herself to feel happy.
A forgotten gift and, perhaps, a little touch of magic, bring her a better understanding of the true meaning of Christmas.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Many people like to play music while they write, I prefer it to be very, very… did I mention VERY… quiet. 😀

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh my! Charles Dickens, Louisa May Alcott, Harper Lee, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Anne McCaffrey, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. J.R.R Tolkien… so many more!

What are you working on now?
My current work in progress is a Fantasy, tentatively named Legacy!
It’s about a young half elf girl who inherits her grandfather’s magical medallion which plunges her into an adventure she always dreamed of but is now not so sure she wants!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still experimenting with that! There’s so many different paths. And I write in different genres!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t be afraid to follow your dream!
On facebook there’s many, many groups whose goal is to help new authors find their way. Get involved, it’s a lovely community!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Listen to criticism, it can be really helpful. But remember, the final decision is yours 🙂

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Brian Sanderson’s The Way of Kings, the first book in his Stormlight series. It’s utterly fascinating! He has a wonderful way of making you feel you know his characters! I love that!!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a whole file full of story ideas. I’ll have to live to 150 to get them all down on paper!! 🙂

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The books I’ve already read are incredibly etched in my heart and soul, so I’d take a huge pile of new ones!
Sanderson, for sure!

E. V. Svetova

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written several novels and a bunch of short stories; my two published books are Print In The Snow, a fairytale for adults, and Over The Hills Of Green, a magical realism novel. Both stories are set in the same world, which really is our world if you look just so.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The title of my book Over The Hills Of Green hints at both the physical place and the internal space where your dreams come true, but also to the journey you take to reach that place.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I admit to over-researching. I often get lost in the topographic maps, historic records and psychological research that goes with a story. However, once I feel I get it, I just sit down and write a pretty tight first draft.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I grew up with the Russian classics, but also the classics of fantasy and sci fi in English. My top three tend to change: for the last few years it’s been Samuel Delany, Ursula Le Guin and Octavia Butler.

What are you working on now?
I’m nearly finished with The Book of Fairfax, which is the third novel of The Green Hills trilogy. It’s historical fiction with elements of the fantastical, of course. It takes place in the 7th century Anglo-Saxon Britain.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook and Amazon advertising is key.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best books turn the reader into an author’s co-creator.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t condescend to your readers, respect them.

What are you reading now?
Just finished the second of the Baru Cormorant books by Seth Dickinson. Loved it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Once I’m finished with the Green Hills trilogy, which represents a labor of love to me, I’d like to honestly try my hand at commercial genre fiction.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s easy: Robinson Crusoe for basic survival, the Bible for meditation, and Silmarillion, because it really is my scripture.

S.P. Joseph Lyons

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an Algonquin children’s author, and fantasy romance novelist. I’ve currently written eight books with several more in the works.

When I was little, I ended up in foster care. For me, it was a very scary and dangerous place full of abuse. The only place I had to hide, was in my mind. There, I was able to craft a magical world I could go to whenever I felt unsafe, which was more often than not.

Even into my teen and young adult years, I struggled, often, and this safe place continued to be my getaway. Once I reached adulthood, I realized I had more than enough material to bring that wonderful universe out and place it on paper. That’s where the DRUX series was born.

My children’s books are for Indigenous foster children trying to understand a scary and confusing experience. My books help guide them through, and let them know they are not alone.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The one I am putting the final touches on now is called, ‘The Mighty Krailess”. It’s the fifth book in the six book DRUX series.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My best mental writing happens when I bounce around on my backyard trampoline. I’ve been doing it daily for years. Not snow, nor rain, has ever kept me away. Nor the shocked or disapproving looks from the neighbors!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a sucker for anything J.R.R. Tolkien. I am fascinated with the way he draws me into not only the story, but the side stories, the back stories, and each character’s rich life.

C.S. Lewis’s Narnia chronicles were one of the few series I could read over and over as a child. I even checked my grandfather’s closet to see if, you know, just maybe…

What are you working on now?
I’m finishing up the DRUX series. Though it’s been a heart-wrenching and bitter/sweet project, I have loved every step of the process. As it comes to a close, my mind is already putting the details together for the NEXUS series which follows.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve found Twitter to be the champion over any and all other social media options, at least for my purposes. It does help that I have quite a following there!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
It’s three fold.

1) Do not let anyone else ever tell you what or how you should write, ever. You are building your voice. A unique voice. Be proud of that voice, no matter what others say.

2) Don’t worry about quality, or if it’s any good, or if it stands up to other books. Just write your stories. You can always edit later, or next year, or in twenty years when you’re more seasoned. Just write for you.

3) Don’t give up! Seriously! Don’t let rejection or poor feedback or fear of failure cause you to quit. You’ll always regret quitting if you do. Life is too short to wonder what could have been.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Read everything you’re supposed to do to be a great author, then ignore all of it!”

What are you reading now?
I’m making my way through Stephen King’s The Stand for the second time. I read it when I was twelve and it scared the heck out of me! I want to see how it impacts me all these years later.

Why not scare yourself once in a while?

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to dive into my next series, the NEXUS series, come Fall of next year. Before then, I’ll add a few more books to my children’s line.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I had to pick something I could read endlessly, without ever tiring of it, it would have to be The Lord of the Rings. Assuming we can still consider it one book, like it was intended?

I’d also bring the Hobbit.

Then, perhaps, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Should keep me sane until rescue.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.

Jason Lady

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Monster Problems is my first novel! I love to write fantasy and science fiction for young readers and I have several more books in development. I am an army brat who lived in Germany and Fort Knox, Kentucky, growing up and I currently live in Cleveland, Ohio, where I root for the Cleveland Indians. I work in Human Resources and in my free time I listen to 80s music, watch movies, and am working on visiting all the MLB stadiums.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Monster Problems is my latest (and first!) book. I took the idea of a magic pen where everything drawn with it becomes real and melded that to some of my experiences as a middle schooler and getting in trouble for drawing instead of paying attention in class. It kind of grew from there!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do my best writing with a mug of coffee nearby and my laptop playing rock and roll music.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve loved comic books since I was a kid and I still read them, my favorites being Spider-Man, Captain America, and the Avengers. My favorite author is sci-fi writer Timothy Zahn, especially his Heir to the Empire trilogy and his Cobra and Blackcollar books. As a kid I loved the Chronicles of Narnia, the Three Investigators, Judy Blume books, and the Ramona books.

What are you working on now?
I am working on the prequel to Monster Problems! It is currently being critiqued by my writers group and is being read by several beta readers (which includes more than a few kids!).

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website is www.jasonrlady.com, where you can learn more about me and how to order Monster Problems. I have book events in 2020 that will get posted there very soon.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t listen to the naysayers, learn all you can about craft, find people who will be supportive and other writers to help encourage you and edit your work. Most importantly, never give up! The journey from first draft to publication for Monster Problems took 13 years!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Your friends and family are far more important than anything else in your life, and you must treasure them.

What are you reading now?
The Collectors by Jacqueline West.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Keeping my fingers crossed I can do at least three books in this magic pen series, and then dive into a sci-fi series that has tons of potential, the first book I have a first draft written. I also want to gain more social media followers and readers!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Avengers: Under Siege, The Blackcollar by Timothy Zahn, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is the first book I’ve written although I have written several screenplays.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Art of Nonviolent Communication. I felt inspired to write it after I found myself repeating the same message over and over to people I was teaching NVC to. I finally decided to put it in a book instead of repeating myself so much. It’s amazing how many of us, (myself included) were taught to speak using tactics like guilt trips, subtle threats, demands, judgements and criticisms to get our desires met. With NVC you will quickly realize none of these are necessary or ultimately even helpful.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to do at least 10 minutes of free writing every morning and the things that come out are often fascinatingly unusual.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Marshall Rosenbergs book on NVC was a huge influence. Im also a big fan of Barry Eisler’s novels.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a book about helpful tips to creating a healthier lifestyle.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far it’s been word of mouth and podcasting that have had the most effect.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write everyday even when you don’t feel like it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Take action towards your goals now.

What are you reading now?
Demystifying the out-of- body experience

What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep writing every day.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Right Use of will
Conversations with God
The power of Now

I am an author, freelance writer and the chief ideator of Kahani Takbak, a platform to promote Indian children’s books, authors and illustrators. I have written over 40 books. Stories In A Satchel is my first and latest book of short stories for adults. It was a ‘What if?’ question which inspired me to write this book.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a fiction book for young adults.

Michael Edmond

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My first feature length novel was Desiring Fire. Since then, the floodgates have opened and I’ve written three more and am working on several others.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is My Brother’s Name. Sometimes, when we are in it up to here, all we have left is to invoke the name of a “higher power”…a name that carries more weight than our own, admitting to ourselves and others that we can’t go it alone. In this case, Angela invokes the name of her brother, a ruthless assassin.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
This isn’t something very unusual, but it’s a part of the writing process that is probably more common than not. I will often spend hours writing a book by not typing a single word while staring at a blank computer screen. After I’ve worked out dialogue and action in my head, I will then try and type the words my brain typed in my mind. It doesn’t always work out and things get deleted often.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve loved reading books by Alistair MacLean (particularly The Black Shrike), Burroughs, Lawhead, stories by Poe, as well as contemporary authors like Bova, Goodkind, and shamefully Rowling.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently writing a fantasy series tentatively titled “The 20 year slave,” with book one called “Three Steps Back” about a young man who while tracking down his wife’s murderers unwittingly acquires a young woman as his slave. To release her would be dishonorable to her tribe and mean her death. So he must keep her for 20 years, unable to sell her, and must give an account of his treatment of her after the indentured period is over or face judgement from her tribe. She proves to be a handful and doesn’t act like a slave, which suits him since he hates the idea up until her continual disobedience begins costing him. She, on the other hand, is seeking answers to her past that can help answer who she really is and why she ended up with a tribe in a desolate land that ultimately gave her over into slavery. Her only clue to her past is a small jeweled necklace that she watched her master throw into the river after she’d disobeyed him. Over the years, their nomadic lifestyle due to his trade as a bounty hunter, earns them more enemies than friends, forcing them to stay bound together in a relationship stronger than master and slave, resulting in a forbidden love that he can never act upon since he’s an honorable man and would never take advantage of his slave. She, however, bears several secrets, one of which could threaten his livelihood, another that threatens his life, and a third which would cause her to be torn from him forever.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, Facebook ads have been a valuable tool for promoting my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I advise new authors to write, write, write. Finish that first book, set it aside and work on a second book. After finishing that one, then begin writing the book you really want to write. The first few are ‘throwaways,’ books that will give you the confidence to know that you can write an entire novel. Save the story you are passionate about for your third project.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A confidence artist can draw or paint for hours on a piece and then throw it away afterward – even though an onlooker might see an amazing work of art – because the artist knows he or she can create another work of art. Meaning, don’t be so attached to the words you’ve written that you are afraid to delete an entire chapter (or book) when it’s not going the direction you wish; you can always write more good work, and what you’ve written is never the best work you can do.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently rereading The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. I first read it in fifth grade and have reread it several times since. No film to date has ever done it justice.

What’s next for you as a writer?
As I continue to write books, I also love teaching writing and creative writing and helping authors with their projects. I’m starting to look for projects that are interesting that I can be a part of another author’s journey to complete his or her book. I love looking at the big-picture and working with authors on the overall structure of their books.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If stranded, I’d bring the aforementioned book by Dumas, a how-to book on how to survive on a desert island (if any such book exists…maybe Robinson Crusoe?), the Bible to give me hope about being rescued and saved, and the Elric Saga to remind me of good I have it compared to that guy.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Ashley Moss was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. She is the middle child of three children born to her mother, and she dearly loves her family. Ashley’s love of reading began when she learned to read at the age of four. From that point on, books and words were her friends. Her passion for writing developed when she wrote her very first poem at the age of twelve. Writing is her solace and comfort in life. Today, her love of reading and writing continues to uplift her in life. I have published one book so far.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Its title is Lessons I’ve Learned: A Collection of Love and Inspirational Poems. It was inspired by greats such as Maya Angelou and Emily Dickinson and their poetry collections.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I write, it has to be completely quiet. I can’t have any distractions around me. I also have to be surrounded by writing utensils, a dictionary, a thesaurus, and a computer.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mark Twain and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as well as J. California Cooper and her books have inspired me.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a Christian fiction short story collection that will feature twelve stories.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method of promoting my book is social media or Instagram. I find that when I share my book image or links in my story, they get a lot of attention and or views.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
To be themselves, to be authentic, to write for themselves, and to develop their own writing styles. They don’t have to write like the greats of the past to be considered good writers to others.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To put all your eggs in one basket business wise, and then keep your eye on that basket to make sure your business grows. It’s a quote by Andrew Carnegie.

What are you reading now?
Mostly magazines such as Oprah Winfrey’s magazine and Women’s Health. I also read the local newspaper.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Promoting my name and works more media wise.

Tatiana Handfield

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a trained teacher of English Language and Literature at the secondary level. I enjoy writing short stories, poems, plays and children’s books. I am passionate about teaching others to write and encouraging children to unlock their creative potential. In addition to teaching and writing, I am also a proofreader/copy editor and created my own art production company Let’s Create TCI! I’ve written four (4) books: two children’s books, one poetry and one Word Search Activity Book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The title of my latest book is The Turks and Caicos Islands Historical Sites and Attractions Word Search Puzzle Book. It’s quite a detour from my usual books but it still fits in neatly with my writing collection. The Word Search Puzzle Book was inspired by my endless passion for my home country the Turks and Caicos Islands. I am enthusiastic about sharing knowledge about my country’s history, culture and heritage. I hope potential readers enjoy the Word Search Puzzle book and learning about the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure it’s an unusual writing habit but once an idea appears in my mind I instantly drop whatever I’m doing to work towards developing it.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The ever famous question to reveal a writer’s heart! I was influenced by C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia and all of Toni Morrison’s writing have been a defining factor for my writing.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a young adult novel. It will be my first time writing for young adults but I believe I will enjoy the adventure it offers. I’m still planning the logistics of the novel so unfortunately, I cannot offer much more details.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am a huge fan of social media platforms, most especially Facebook and Instagram. I am open to exploring other marketing platforms in the near future.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Always keep writing! I’ve had moments where I gave up on writing when I should have merely shifted directions. The only way to get better and develop your writing career is to consistently write.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
This piece of advice was not directly related to writing but it encourages me whenever I’m at a standstill: if something is for you, it will always work out perfectly in the end.

What are you reading now?
An amazing series of books by Kat Ross called the Gaslamp Gothic.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am aiming to continue writing and publishing. I would also like to improve my marketing strategy and build my audience.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My favourite kind of question! Here we go:

1) An Empty Journal to write in
2) The Bible (King James Version)
3)What Moves at the Margin: Selected Nonfiction (Toni Morrison)
4) William Shakespeare Complete Works

Nicole Nadeau

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is my first book, which has taken a few years to write. It took me longer because I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a form of muscular atrophy. Because of it, I use a wheelchair and my muscles are much weaker. I can’t use a keyboard, so I write using my phone. It’s slower, but nothing is going to stop me from being a writer.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is Death by Midnight: The Secret Life of Anna Goode series. I’ve always enjoyed spy books and movies, and loved Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider series when I was younger. But I always noticed that the person that created the inventions the hero used never really saw any action—they just showed up and left. Why couldn’t the inventor actually be the hero? The idea snowballed and Death by Midnight was born.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. Besides needing coffee in the morning, I just focus and write.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Anthony Horowitz and Rick Riordan. Horowitz does a great job of keeping readers on their toes, Riordan has a great sense of humor and is phenomenal at world-building.

What are you working on now?
Book two of The Secret Life of Anna Goode series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do a lot of social media, especially Twitter. I also reach out to book blogs and reviewers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Have beta readers/editors read your manuscript. You’ve seen it a million times, so you won’t catch every mistake. And they can offer a different perspective that can add to your story. My beta readers did.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you know. Write something that you would want to read. Because then you know what works.

What are you reading now?
The Tyrant’s Tomb by Rick Riordan.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing the Secret Life of Anna Goode series, and then a superhero trilogy.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, The Accidental Hero by Matt Myklusch, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling, and Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson.

Russell Heath

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
In my teens, I hitchhiked to Alaska and lived in a cabin on the banks of the Tanana River; in my twenties, I lived in Italy and then traveled overland across the Sahara, through the jungles and over the savannas of Africa and into southern Asia; in my thirties, I sailed alone around the world in a small wooden boat; in my forties, I wrote novels; and in my fifties bicycled the spine of the Rockies from Alaska to Mexico. I’ve worked on the Alaska Pipeline, as an environmental lobbyist in the Alaska Legislature, and run a storied environmental organization fighting to protect Alaska’s coastal rainforests. Several years ago, I moved to New York City to dig deep into leadership development and coaching. I now coach business and non-profit leaders intent on making big things happen in the world.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Broken Angels. It was inspired by hubris. I was kayaking with a friend around Baranof Island in Southeast Alaska—a 3-week trip. She’d just finished a mystery by an Alaska author and I asked her if it was any good. She said, yes—so I read it. It was beyond dreadful. I complained to my friend—

“Yeah, I know,” she said. “But I didn’t want to influence your opinion.”

“I want my opinion influenced. I wasted hours of my life reading this.”

That night we were weathered in by a blow. I was snugged up in my sleeping bag still pissed that a book could be so bad. And then I stepped off the edge. I said to myself that I could do better.

But I hadn’t a clue how to start. I so hapless, it was almost comical. Thousands of books written every year and I didn’t what to do after picking up a pencil.

Then, one random day, I remembered a novel that was a scene by scene rip-off of Shakespeare’s Lear. A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley. You’d think she’d be hauled off for plagiarism, but no—she’d won the Pulitzer. I cast about for a play where the author had been dead long enough he wouldn’t be coming after me for stealing his stuff.

Since I was writing a mystery—the play to use was obvious. The first mystery in western literature was Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. Fortunately, Sophocles has been dead for 2,500 years and I figured he wouldn’t much care that I was taking his best work. That was my start.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write mysteries and I have no love for mysteries—generally because they are so contrived: a bunch of unlikely events strung together to produce an outrageously improbable outcome that has next to zero psychological plausibility: <i> she killed him because of a hang-nail? </i>

You might ask, is Broken Angels a bunch of unlikely events strung together to produce an outrageously improbable outcome that has next to zero psychological plausibility?

No. This story is the story that I wanted to read. It’s psychologically real, the characters are driven by who they are; they make bad decisions that lead to horrific outcomes—but each step of the way you get why they are doing what they are doing. The story is rich and complex and, at times, emotionally challenging for the reader. And it rips—you will not be able to put this book down.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many it is beyond count. For years, I would read with a clipboard keeping notes about how one or another author, say, introduces new characters, sets a scene, ends a chapter, squeezes in explication. It was my job to pry the secrets out of other authors. Let me say, however, that the most valuable book at the start of my career was “Self Editing for Fiction Writers.” by Renni Brown. Read this book. Do everything it says. My own prose jumped from juvenile to intermediate-adult over night.

What are you working on now?
Marketing my second novel Rinn’s Crossing–which will be published March 30, 2020. A very different book than Broken Angels–although it also takes place in Alaska. It was sparked by a fantasy I had–

Southeast Alaska is a place of breathtaking beauty. It is home to the world’s largest remaining temperate rainforest, the Tongass. The trees are majestic—towering into the sky. You cannot walk beneath them and not be moved.

Over the past half-century, those trees have been cut with criminal abandon.

The logging outraged me and I dreamed of sabotaging logging operations laying waste to the forest. It wouldn’t make any difference—another logging company would just take its place, but it’d be exquisitely cathartic. I figured could go wrong? Well, what if went wrong was that someone else was charged with my crime? And if that happened—what would I do?

Good question. That sparked the story.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Best method: write a book others enjoy enough to tell their friends about it. Everything else is a distant second.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Learn your craft.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t do it.

I ignore it every time.

What are you reading now?
Just finished Ordinary Wolves by Seth Kantner–one of the classics of Alaska Literature. Read it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After Rinn’s Crossing is launched, I start on a non-fiction story of sailing around the world.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A Flash of Horror is flash fictions taken from my two collections Heads&Tales and Undressed. After being a guest on a podcast I realized how much horror was in my work. So that’s how A Flash Of Horror was born.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do it the old fashioned way, pen to paper and then I type it up. I have hundreds of note pads in my cupboards.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
S.E.Hinton, Rowling and Tolkien.
The Outsiders, That’s was Then This Now, Rainbow Fish, Tex, Taming of The Star Runner.
The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit.
Harry Potter series.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a mafia thriller, Broken Chains.

I’m writing on Watpad and sharing with the public, then every month, a new chapter goes in my newsletter and I’m also narrating each chapter on my YouTube channel.
I wanted to share this writing journey with the public and I’m having a lot of fun with it.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Well, I don’t have the same promotion opportunities as other authors. In fact, all of my marketing is done online. Facebook is the best social media platform for me.
I find cross-promotion in my newsletters bring in more sales than anywhere else.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
No matter how much you think your book is ready if you haven’t hired a professional cover designer, editor or had the book professionally formatted, you’re not giving your book a chance.
You only get one chance. If your book isn’t ready and polished and you start getting bad reviews because of it, your book is stuck with them.
Make the best first impression with your book.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From my editor and it has been drilled into me.
SHOW DON’T TELL.

What are you reading now?
I’m a huge fan of Watpad, so I’m reading amazing books from there.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will continue with Broken Chains until the first draft is completed. and I hopefully get some great feedback from my readers on Watpad. Then the book will be professionally edited, new cover and I will self publish the novel. I’m also hoping to finish the adult version of In Times Of Violence.

That’s all I have planned for 2020 for now. As I’m so busy promoting my client’s books, I don’t have much time to write or promote my 13 books. I also have my radio show Author Assist on the Artist First Radio Network and my YouTube show, Behind The Pen.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Lord of The Rings
Hush Hush by Beca Fitzpatrick
Morganville Vampires series.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in a small village in Kenya with no electricity or potable water. There, I felt closer and more deeply connected to nature around me every day. So I spent most of my days outdoors, interacting with nature. I had fun doing all that.

My childhood experiences significantly shaped my outlook on life. In fact, attending a boarding high school transformed the teenage voice inside of me. I found myself trapped in nothing less than a passion for writing. That’s why all of my writing share one thing: authenticity.

Upon relocating to the US, I began writing extensively on many topics, rendering each in thoughtful meditations intended to help the reader engage, visualize, and feel involved in every word.

Through writing, I share many of my feelings, thoughts, and experiences that would otherwise have remained unsaid. Mostly, I write in the first person so that all you can do is say, “I can relate.”

Currently, I have three books published: (1) BULLET WITH MY NAME (Thriller/Fiction), (2) THEY WALK AMONG US (Thriller/Fiction), and (3) MY UNTOLD: PORTRAIT OF A LIVED LIFE (Poetry).

I hope at least one of my books or poems will help you appreciate your own experiences or excite you into living in the present–and, in doing so, bring you joy, inspire you into action for a greater cause, or make you curious about nature and humanity.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I just published THEY WALK AMONG US on Christmas Day. Heck, I have been busy. The inspiration came from a trip I had in a stripper’s club in MN and while there, I was dumb struck by the stories one of the strippers told me.

I quickly realized that in a world where people regard strippers as untouchable objects of fantasy, they are just common people with common problems like everyone else. But then, there was more: she told me about some of the things men do to them and her fears because she had a 5-yr old girl at home. I gathered being in the club every night (dancing to men ogling at her body) wasn’t her liking, but she had to survive. And that got me thinking. I needed to humanize her…and so the story was borne.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write in the first person a lot because I am an emotional person and I figured it’s easier to express feelings when it’s my voice and thoughts (my perspective).

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Books by D. Koontz, S. Sheldon and R. Ludlum.

What are you working on now?
I’m editing two manuscripts on romance.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter; very traditional. So this is my first time getting involved with something deeper and targeted, so thank you Awesome Gang for this platform.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Writing is about patience. Good work require time and preparation. Don’t fear to begin; just begin. Carve our time (even an hr a day) to write a few paragraphs. Eventually the whole manuscript will be completed. I often write just 3 to 5 paragraphs when I’m at it. Now, I have 3 books published and I’m not going to stop any time soon. So write, keep writing, and don’t fear sharing your raw work with others, especially co-workers and friends, to provide some initial feedback (hey, it’s free service!). I use my co-workers a lot and they often read and give me some invaluable feedback that have made me better, especially with plot, pace and themes.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A book begin with one word. So write those words. An empty page can’t be edited. So write on that page. Your first book might not be the greatest; but your next one, and the next, will definitely be awesome! So write!

What are you reading now?
I’m reading people’s work on Wattpad so that I can learn what themes are trending when it comes to romance.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have two manuscripts for children’s books that I really want to publish in the next 2 years or so. They are stories to inspire children to begin thinking about the environment and the universe and this place called Earth (we need to protect it, and the younger generation is the solution).

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My Untold (poetry)
The Concubine
Animal Farm

Nichole Williams

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a Poet, Writer, and Blogger. I have a B.A in Communications from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I have always loved to write, even in school, I’d rather write an essay for an exam before taking a multiple question test. Written communication has always been my best form of communication. In the last two years I started my Poetry blog, Nichole Nichole deals with Reality to reach more loyal readers. Since writing my blog I have been inspired to write short stories and self-publish a few books. I have written three eBooks and self-published through Amazon thus far, proud of that.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Go-Go Juice. I know it sounds silly but that’s usually what I call my coffee. So, I had thought of writing a story based around coffee. At first, I wanted to write a comedy but then a mystery was better suited for this story.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always carry around a small notebook in my purse. If at any moment I feel an idea coming on I pause whatever I’m doing unless it’s driving of course and jot down whatever comes to mind and expand on it later.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
For the fiction writers that inspire me to write – Toni Morrison, Jerome Dickey, Stephen King, Octavia Butler, Alice Walker, and Nikki Giovanni. The non-fiction writers I enjoy reading and get motivated by are Louise Hay, Lisa Nichols, Tony Gaskins, Joel Olsteen, T.D Jakes and James Baldwin.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m working on two books which are follow-ups to my first two books, “Oh what a Night” and “Lottery Ball”. From reviews, I received feedback of people wanting more so I’m giving them more to the stories.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method right now when promoting my books is through my social media pages, my blog website, and a simple word of mouth.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Since I’m new myself I would just advise you to keep pushing, if writing is your dream don’t stop!! Also re-read often and edit, edit, edit!!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I heard is a quote from Lisa Nichols that has stuck with me over the years, “You are the designer of your destiny; you are the author of your story.”

What are you reading now?
Currently, I’m reading a few books, “Make it work” by Tony Gaskins, “Genevieve” by Jerome Dickey Dickey and “Everyday Millionaires” by Chris Hogan.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My next goals are to complete my full book of poetry to be published by a publisher, find a literary agent, attend a few writers workshop and continue to work and improve my craft.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d bring one of my childhood favorites, “Where the sidewalk ends” by Shel Silverstein.
Any book of poems written by Mya Angelou. “One Day My Soul Just Opened Up” by Iyanla Vanzant and a classic “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker.

A.G.R. Goff

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Leipzig, Germany on Valentines day February 14, 1977. The most memorable event was probably to witness the 1989 uprising in my hometown, which ultimately lead to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunion of East and West Germany. Before I started writing thrillers and dystopian stories, I worked in banking, as a translator and even had a short career as a hotel receptionist. All very exciting but my passion is the one I’m doing now — writing. I love pasta and my hobbies include playing the saxophone, dogs and hiking. I live with my husband Andy in George, South Africa after moving to the Western Cape from England/Essex a few years ago. My second novel has just been published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book “The sky above” is a dystopian story and was inspired by current political events, like Trump’s presidency, the Brexit and the 2015 immigration wave in Europe.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to eat jellies whilst writing, not sure if that is unusual.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been influenced by lots of authors because I like variety and don’t stick to one genre. For a while Stephen King and Jodie Picoult used to be favorites of mine but currently I read a lot of unknown authors in exchange for reviews. That’s quite good fun.

What are you working on now?
I’m working a sequel to my first novel “Layers”.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That’s a difficult one, as I don’t know what ultimately leads to sales. But I would say, Facebook ads.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, don’t give up but you can have a break.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There’s a space for everyone but yours might not be where you think it is.

What are you reading now?
One Last Prayer for the Rays by Wes Markin

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will concentrate on my next project which hasn’t even got a title yet. But I’m sure it will be fun and I’ll might hang around at the Knysna literary festival in March 2020.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Twilight ( I know, I know – but I love it)
It by Stephen King
A book about survival on a desert island (still need to find that one)
The Man Who Saw Everything by Deborah Levy because I haven’t read it yet

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I love to write because I love to read. I love reading for how it can carry you away into the middle of the night, turning page after page until you find out what happens next. For that sensation of letting your eyes adjust to reality as you peel them away from your book. For how every thought after The End echoes in your thoughts in the voice of the protagonist. For magic. For other worlds. For love and loss and friendship and what it means to come together, to fight for something. I dream of writing stories like that, so I put pen to paper and try to write them.

I write Young Adult Fantasy. The Angel’s Calling is a prequel to the Daughter of the Phoenix series, and The Third Sun is book one in the series. I’m currently working on book two, The Eternal Dusk.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Third Sun: Daughter of the Phoenix Book One
In Ohinyan, a world parallel to Earth, the sun is dying and ancient darkness is trying to escape from its prison. The title comes from a conversation amongst a witch coven, about the dying sun, and the new one.
The Daughter of the Phoenix series is a Young Adult Portal Fantasy series, based on Earth and the parallel world of Ohinyan. It’s full of angels, witches, shapeshifters, elemental magic and more.
I’d like to tell you something wonderful and profound inspired the story – but I’ve always had a head full of stories, and this was just one of them.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
You’ll often find me huddled in multiple scarves, surrounded by library books and notepads.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Philip Pullman, Neil Gaiman and Peter S Beagle.

What are you working on now?
The Eternal Dusk: Daughter of the Phoenix Book Two
Tales of Ohinyan: a Daughter of the Phoenix Companion Guide
and a few other projects 🙂

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Home

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write! 50 words, 100 words, just write as often as you can. Setting a timer for 15 minutes helps tremendously when you need to get laser focused.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Best writing advice: creativity is a muscle that atrophies if unused. Writing as often as you can will prevent that.

What are you reading now?
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

What’s next for you as a writer?
Complete this series, and then get started on the next two series, all connected to the world of Ohinyan.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh wow, too difficult to decide. I’d have a solar charger for my kindle 🙂
