Awesome Author - Michael Stevens

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a video game developer based in Kansas City, I have written one book so far (constructive criticism is welcome).

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest (and first) book is Why am I Missing? A retroactive Journal. It is a family story which has been shrouded in mystery and poorly understood, until now.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I started writing the book in notepad, since I didn’t have microsoft word, I finally downloaded Libreoffice which is 99% as good as word.

When I transitioned from the rough draft phase to the final draft phase I accidentally left out several whole chapters!

I published this book a little prematurely, I figured that would be better than not publishing it at all. I have revised it heavily since it’s first publication.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The greats of my time, George RR Martin, JK Rowling, Gary Paulsen. When I read their books I would always pick up little writing tricks I noticed them using. I have always had a passive interest in writing I suppose.

What are you working on now?
Now I’m back to game development! I’m currently creating a procedurally generated stealth game. Check my twitter to play the prototype, one will be available soon.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t have much experience marketing my book yet, I self published on amazon, I will keep trying different things until I find what works, then keep hammering that nail.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Start, and finish.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be a finisher. Everyone on earth has a half written book on their hard drive, see it through to the end.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m doing writing prompts every day now, I will probably write my first novel next.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take as much of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series as I could. I have not re-read those books yet. I’ve only read them once.

Awesome Author - Mystqx Skye

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Mystqx and My name is Mystqx Skye and I am a Zürich-based writer, a hobby photographer and a lover of archery. In my former life, I was a savvy Marketing Communication Strategist at travel and retail companies. My writings are more on life’s beautiful contradictions, rebellious hearts and mystery romance. I have one published book and so many other books still on draft 🙂

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Bared – Beneath a Myriad of Skies is my first published book. It is a 117 page poetry book that inspires and encourages love for self and others, inner self-discovery, understanding relationships and appreciating the beauty of life. The book has mandala art coloring pages and includes blank stationery pages that can be used to write your own thoughts or use as a journal.

The myriad of emotions from stories I heard from people coming from all walks of life, my memories and dreams – inspired me to write Bared. I wish to share it to the world – in the hopes that through my writings – my readers could find a companion; a friend of their mind; refuge – if not an escape; maybe enjoy the world more, or find a relief of heart.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if you would call it unusual but before I write I usually set the mood and the stage. Music and food play a big role in prepping things up. I’m a very sensual person and likes to feel things so skimming my fingers on a keyboard or embossed papers and the smell of ink turns my writing mood on.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorites are Oscar Wilde and Anais Nin. Their words are powerful, inviting, sensual, and both are unconventional. I like their spirit and style.

What are you working on now?
I am currently writing a mystery romance short novel. It is about love and hate that transcends over time. Also finishing a chapbook about societies beliefs and behaviours. Hopefully, I can finish atleast one before half of next year 😉

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find that Instagram works for me the best though I try to promote on all social media.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
On this note, I’d like to half-quote Dory from Nemo. Just keep… writing! Whatever the circumstances are, like book not selling, getting bad or negative comments from articles you published, getting lazy and disoriented… wherever you find yourself into – don’t forget to write. Write about your circumstances, write about whatever thoughts you have, write about what you want to write about. Just keep writing and I’m sure you will find the readers who loves your writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
An advice that I really like is from E.L. Doctorow. “Good writing is supposed to evoke sensation in the reader—not the fact that it is raining, but the feeling of being rained upon.”

What are you reading now?
Grimoire for the Green Witch: A Complete Book of Shadows – just in time for Halloween 😉

What’s next for you as a writer?
After I finish the 2 books I’m working on – I would really like to concentrate on marketing the books. I have a marketing background and I’d like to try my hand at applying the techniques I know to marketing my own books. Self-publishing is not an easy road to take for authors but I find it rewarding.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmmm…. this is a tough question indeed. I’d say, a thick blank notebook, my poetry book – Bared, The Notebook by Nicholas Spark and a book about survival skills.

Awesome Author - Kathleen West

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
So far two and counting, although one is still in publishing. I plan an entire series.

I am an engineer who uses the logical side of my brain so often that my creative brain begs for attention.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I received inspiration for my debut novel and (planned) series through strange and vivid dreams that detailed how people from different times, places, and worlds died.

The first published book in my new series is called:
Tales of the Multiverse: Volume 1: The Tasty Girl

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to do free style writing and take my time letting my creativity ebb and flow throughout the month with the goal of only 1 chapter. So I’ll write text in notepad , writing a section of a chapter a day, then another section the next, then go through revisions until poof! I’ve completed a polished chapter complete in MS Word.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite science fiction write has to be Ben Bova, because he his writing style has personality but I was influenced mainly by my secret muses and the ghosts of which inspired me to write their stories.

What are you working on now?
I am waiting on a content review and the remainder of the publishing process for my second book. After that approval, I will go ahead and start working on marketing videos, images, etc.. for the second book. I’m very excited but saddened to see a delay by the publisher to probably January 2020.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Not sure I have found that secret yet.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t be afraid to write what you want. Be your own boss. Your work is your own style of art, and not everyone will understand or appreciate your artistic style of writing and that is ok. Be your own butterfly.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To be super careful and proactive about copyright, legal issues, etc…

What are you reading now?
I’m such a nerd. I’m reading non-fiction programming book on C# 7.0 to prepare me for an upcoming certification exam.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ve got at least 20 stories from “ghost dreams” planned for my future. Hopefully I can tell all their stories and more!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible (NIV with commentary) – (I’m religious)
Some C# programming books, so I can pass that exam …

Awesome Author - Bella Pearson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi. I’m Bella. I was born and raised on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, where I live today with my young son Griffith. Many would say that I’m living the dream. Maybe so. Travel agent by day, loving soccer mom on the weekends, writer of romantic fantasy, hanging out on the beach in my free time – and all of this while living on a beautiful tropical island. What’s not to love?

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first book, “Bella’s Bedtime Tales: The Lost Stories” has just come out. It’s an introduction to the next five, which will be the actual installments of the Bella’s Bedtime Tales series. Caution: I hope you like your romance a little steamy!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Romantic fantasy with the heat turned up. Did I mention steamy?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Really, I hope I’m writing what people want to read. I don’t know that anyone has particularly influenced me. Well, bad writers have influenced me to write good stories.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
For new authors, I’d recommend starting with “Short Reads.” People don’t necessarily want to commit to a full-length novel written by someone they don’t know.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmm. I’m always stranded on a tropical island, and I always have books, but most of the time I’m writing them.

Awesome Author - Annabelle anders

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in western Colorado and stared writing full time in 2018. To date, I’m excited to realize I’ve published over 15 books! I’m living my dream!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My next release is titled “Lady Be Good.” The heroine is a lady’s maid and the hero a viscount. Having worked in the service industry, I was inspired to show the servant point of view in a few of my novels.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wind up a Monkey cooking timer that’s named “Monte.” Sometimes I write all day in a number of 10 minute sprints. In between each sprint, I think through the next section that I will right.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
First and foremost, Mary Balogh. I never would have begun writing Historical Romance if my mom hadn’t given me one of her books for Christmas. Before that I read mostly contemporary and loved reading Jennifer Cruisie and Rachel Gibson. I like books that are fun but also full of heart.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a book that will be featured in Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s shared Cocky hero World. My book is Cocky Duke and is styled after the original Cocky Bastard… only set in regency times. This book is an altogether different sort of challenge for me and if you’ve read any of the cocky books, you’ll understand why!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Bookbub… Facebook and Amazon ads.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
This isn’t just about writing books. It’s about running a business.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Advertise, advertise, advertise…

What are you reading now?
I’m immersing myself in Cocky Bastard so I can really get that same feel across in my book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I think it will be a quick release series featuring a handful of “gifted” sisters.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Slightly Dangerous
What I did for the Duke
And a the autumn and summer book from Lisa Kleypas’ wallflower series.

Awesome Author - Barbara Condra

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Barbara was born and raised in St. Louis. After college she lived in Iowa and South Dakota but has lived for the past 27 years in Kansas City, Missouri. Although born a St. Louis Cardinal fan, she has no problem rooting for the Royals, unless they are playing the Cardinals!
Barbara met her husband, Harold, while a student at Northeast Missouri State College, (aka Truman State University), where she graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education My husband and I have two children, six grandchildren, two of whom were married this past spring and summer.
After two children and several years of teaching I returned to school and have since earned a Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, a Specialist Degree from University of Missouri at Kansas City and a doctorate from the University of Kansas.
I served for twenty-seven years in public education in Iowa and Missouri as both a teacher and an administrator. My last 13 years were with the Raytown School District in suburban Kansas City retiring as the Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
My favorite place to vacation is in the mountains and my husband and I especially love Estes Park! There is just something about the crisp air at the top of the international divide that is refreshing and invigorating! We also went to Vienna two years ago to visit our niece and her family and that was a special trip, too. Recently I have been blessed to travel with my daughter to London, Paris, the Netherlands, Berlin and Budapest. Additionally, I had the privilege of traveling to Siliguri, India several times on mission trips while helping to train teachers for a mission school her church was helping to establish. .
I have always believed that it is important to act on your beliefs and to be someone who makes a difference. Throughout my life I have volunteered when there was a need and readily took on various leadership roles. This tendency began early in my life and because of this, my father, who was in the Army Reserves for forty years, once said to me he was glad I wasn’t a boy, because I would probably have joined the Army, and as a soldier I would have volunteered for dangerous assignments, which would surely have gotten me shot.
I felt compelled to write this current book after completing a study of the Holy Spirit. During that study I sought out the direction of the Holy Spirit as to what I could do about my concern for the welfare of this country and for the future impact it will have on her children and grandchildren. I felt that God was clearly telling me to write this book. So, I did.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is: Taking Civility Out of the Box: The Insanity of Incivility and What can be done About It. In the summer of 2018, I was visiting in Charleston with five good friends. We had all had leadership roles in the Raytown School District and were all now retired. This was during the first wave of immigrants that were coming into the US when families were being separated and children were being confined in less than stellar environments. All five of us were appalled and we wanted to do something. We tried contacting our congressmen but got nowhere. We thought of some other ideas but nothing seemed to really take hold. After I returned home I was preparing to teach a study on the Holy Spirit and as I did that I felt compelled to write this current book. During that study I had sought out the direction of the Holy Spirit as to what I could do about my concern for the welfare of this country and for the future impact it will have on her children and grandchildren. I felt that God was clearly telling me to write this book. So, I did.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really but I do tend to write about things that I feel passionate about and that passion will push me to find the time.

What are you working on now?
I’m getting back into writing for my blog: “…the sometimes wise woman” because I had to let the go while I was working on the book. I’m also looking at writing an online course related to civility and civil discourse for college students. My next big goal is to accepted for a Tedx talk on the topic of importance civility and civil discourse in a democracy.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That is a great question to which I do not have an answer. I have yet to find one that was truly helpful. My book is published on Amazon. It has 30 reviews and a 4.7 rating but that’s about it.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Trust your passion and write what is on your heart. Listen to good advice but don’t let doubts stop you.

What are you reading now?
Love Your Enemies by Alvin Brooks and
The Power of Full Engagement by Loehr and Schwartz

What’s next for you as a writer?
Focusing on the online courses and the Tedx Talk

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Biography of Dietrich Bohnhoeffer by Eric Metaxis ( I could finally finish it!)
Devotional Classics: Selected Readings for Individuals and Groups – A Renovare Resource For Spiritual Renewal
A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein
My Bible

Awesome Author - Dr. Carlos Madrigal Flores

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I would call myself a modern da Vinci in the sense that I am always working in something, whether that is a book, an animation for my YouTube channel “God”, composing electronic music under the name Dr.? or illustrating a comic. For the time by, I have published 6 books and 7 comics, and I have plans to keep going.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled Pain, it’s more of a philosophical and reflective take on the topic of pain and human suffering but most important, what we can learn from it. At the time I wrote it, I was going trough some harsh times in every possible way, all at once. I was looking for answers everywhere, but there was nothing so I figure out that maybe instead of searching I could do a deep introspection and get most of the situation.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write my books on a single day or maybe two. When I want to write something, it is almost as if I was possessed, so I can’t stop till I’m done and that usually takes about a day or maybe a weekend.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
This may sound weird, or unusual, but I think my greatest inspiration are books from the bible, in particular the old testament such as Ecclesiastes but also the book of Revelation. In the other side I must admit that deconstruction comic books and cartoons as Martin mystery, Ben 10, Symbiotic titan, the grim adventures of Billy & Mandy, Invader Zim, Devilman and Evangelion have been great inspirations to the topics and ideas I tend to explore, even though I go under a more serous tone on my writing that some of these examples.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a couple of new books. I’ll be exploring different genres within fiction, such as horror and space adventures. Anyway, I am always working on something, so wait for it!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I mainly go for personal recommendation but also using social networks and more recently joining various websites who have readers interested in new material.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just start. The hardest part of writing a book is starting, however also finish it. It’s no good a never-ending story if you intend to publish it; it’s better finished and not perfect than never being read. And most importantly, do it for yourself, writing is about the art, not the money. You are supposed to have fun while you write.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write for you, not for the money or for others. At the end of the day art is subjective, so the only one who you know is definitely going to like your work is yourself. If you start writing with someone else in mind you may even start censuring yourself and you won’t explore your full potential.

What are you reading now?
Mainly deconstruction comics and books. This more realistic take on some classical ideas does give me a different point of view on how stories are portrayed compared to how they would go in real life scenarios. The critics to society are interesting as at the end of the day, art is nothing more than a distorted reflection of a mirror of our world.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More books, more comics. On the books I am intending to maybe start a book series or a book universe. In my comics I got many scripts and sketches, so that has to become a finished work at some point soon.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The bible, I would have a lot to read. Something of survival techniques, I am sure that would come on handy. And something on medicine, the same reason as book two.
And probably one of my own books, The philosophy of the parasite, just to keep on mind who am I and what am I capable of to survive without losing my mind.

I recently published my first book and I’m currently writing my second of the same series. I grew up in a military family and have seen and lived in various States throughout our great country. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes and I have enjoyed books since I was a young child. I remember as a child one of my favorite books was the Island of the Blue Dolphins. I even named my dog after the dog in that book.I have written many short stories for friends and family over the years, but this is the first time I’ve published. My upcoming novel tackles human trafficking, a disgusting and horrible reality of our modern society. I sincerely appreciate all of my readers and fans, and the interest that people have shown in my work. It’s truly humbling.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I recently published my first book called All Gas. I am currently working on my second novel called The Forgotten. My inspiration has been life, horrible atrocities I see in the news, the fact that I am a lover of redemption stories, and the archetype of the flawed knight.

I’m currently working on my second book, The Forgotten. It is a continuation of Jon Dough’s story, and he is called to find the daughter of his ex-girlfriend’s sister. It’s tackles human trafficking and should be a fantastic book in the series. I have so many plans for Jon Dough. He will embark on all sorts of adventures and I’m even planning a supernatural series featuring him as the main character.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still trying to figure that out…

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do what you love. Write what you love. Your stories are your voice. Express yourself the way you express yourself.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up.

What are you reading now?
The Teeth of the Tiger by Tom Clancy

What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep writing until I can write no more. or until someone tells me I suck and she stopped writing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
As many Jack Reacher books as I could bring.

Awesome Author - Kelegeen by Eileen O’Finlan

About Kelegeen by Eileen O’Finlan

Ireland 1846

Meg O’Connor, daughter of poor Irish cottiers, eagerly anticipates her wedding to Rory Quinn. Her dreams of marriage and family vanish along with Ireland’s potato crop when Kelegeen’s inhabitants awaken one morning to find their sole source of food destroyed by blight.

At first Meg and Rory are able to use their skills, hers of sewing and his of wood carving, to provide for themselves and their families. But tragedy and a costly mistake end those means of survival forcing them into more dangerous ventures.

As An Gorta Mór, the Great Hunger, continues to churn through Ireland ravaging the country’s peasantry with no let up in sight, Meg is compelled to make the most difficult decision of her life. What she chooses could be the salvation of the O’Connor and Quinn families or it could separate her forever from all she knows and loves.

Author Bio:
Eileen O’Finlan calls her writing “history with a twist” because she is intrigued by the unusual and little known aspects of history – the stories on history’s margins, the things rarely taught in the classroom. For her, that’s where history really gets fun.

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, her family moved to Worcester when she was two. Four years later they moved to Holden where Eileen grew up and where she now resides with her 93 year old mother and two cats.

Eileen holds a Bachelor’s degree in history and a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry. She works full time for the Diocese of Worcester and teaches online courses in Catholic studies for the University of Dayton, Ohio. She is proud to say that Pope Francis owns a copy of her debut novel, Kelegeen. She is currently working on the sequel.
