Good Morning!

Please check out the authors below and share them if you like on social media and help them out. Good karma goes a long way. If you belong to a Author group help spread the word about our free author interview series.

I started something in our Facebook group that I am going to do more often as it seemed to work really well today. We did an old fashion #FollowFriday on Twitter. I made a post in the group and I ended up doing two post.

After I did the post I also retweeted it across all the Awesomegang Family of sites Twitter accounts. It went out to almost 62,000 followers. Almost all of the authors also retweeted it so who knows how many readers it reached. You can see them here and here and feel free to retweet them and help the authors out.

Thanks
Vinny

Awesome Author - Adam Nesbitt

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Adam Nesbitt, and I’m the author of The Scourge of Alexandria and Dreamweavers: Genesis, two books from two different series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Scourge of Alexandria is inspired by the conquest and demise of Alexander the Great as well as ancient Greek and Roman culture, religion, and warfare. It follows the trials and triumphs of Andreas, the prince of Alexandria, as he struggles to unite his people against the ruthless dwarves of Croton, a civilization based on a fusion of Spartan and Aztec culture.

Dreamweavers: Genesis is inspired by dream yoga, a religious practice that is observed by Buddhist monks in Tibet, where a special form of meditation leads monks to gain full control of their dreams. The novel follows five teenagers who discover extraordinary abilities in their dreams that give them a shot at overthrowing a ruthless tyrant who has enslaved their people.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always come up with the best ideas for my books at the most inconvenient time possible – typically while driving, taking a shower, or laying in bed. I often find myself pulling off the road or jumping out of bed to write down an idea before I forget it.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My writing style has been heavily influence by George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. I love his use of multiple points of view, realistic characters, and his portrayal of the grittiness of his story world.

What are you working on now?
I am in the process of planning out the sequel books to The Scourge of Alexandria as well as Dreamweavers: Genesis.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Bookbub is the gold standard for promoting your books, but it can be very difficult to get a promotion on their site. It is very important to build up a number of genuine reviews in order to be considered.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to read, write, and learn. Read as much as you can in the genre or genres that you hope to write in so you can learn about the format and standards of your genre. Practice writing as much as you can, ideally for a period of time every single day. There are plenty of interesting short story prompts on the internet that you can use for inspiration as you practice. Finally, find a topic or topics that you’re interested in and spend time learning about it. I’m very interested in history, and my study of history has provided inspiration for both of my series.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up. Very few people achieve success without facing significant difficulties and roadblocks along the way. The people who become successful are the ones who persevere no matter what and refuse to give up on their dreams regardless of how difficult it may seem.

What are you reading now?
I’ve just started the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson, and am loving it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
The next few years will be focused entirely on promoting the first books in both of my series as well as planning out the next books in both series. Both of my series will likely be seven books, so there’s a lot of planning and much more writing to do.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take The Godfather by Mario Puzo, A Storm of Swords, and A Dance with Dragons by George R. R. Martin.

Awesome Author - Matthew Fraser Matthew Fraser

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name’s Matthew Fraser, I’m 31 and I live in Surrey in England. That’s the boring sort of stuff about me, slightly more interesting is that I have a ginger cat called Harry and a number of plastic dinosaurs in my garden. I like to pretend it’s Jurassic Park, so what? Ha!
I’ve written 4 ‘full size’ novels now along with a number of short stories.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called ‘The Adventures of Edward Brett: Volume One’ and it was inspired by my love of folklore and the supernatural. I find ancient religions really fascinated and I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘what if all those old gods people used to worship, what if they were real, and still alive now?’ What would they be doing? I know this sort of thing has been done before, but I wanted to do something that was tied to the UK – so Edward Brett in my book is a god from Britain who has long since lost anyone worshipping him … so now he spends his time travelling about and saving us from the demons and monsters that still exist! What else is a god to do?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really, although I do find I come up with my best ideas in the bath. So if anyone could invent me like a floating laptop tray or something with a waterproof keyboard, that would be ace.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
TV and movies actually influence me more than books. Is that weird? Is that like blasphemy? I can watch stories on the screen and think ‘ah, yes!’ and then take an idea off on a tangent and come up with something new.

What are you working on now?
The next book in the Edward Brett series, so Volume Two. I have it mostly all mapped out in my brain, so it’s time to put pen to paper. Or fingers to keyboard, as it may be.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Plug, plug, plug. Someone told me once that promoting a book is spade work – you have to keep digging. It’s hard, you’ll feel like giving up. But keep digging and you WILL get there. I’m still on the digging part right now.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I don’t think I could be so bold as to offer advice, as writing is such a personal thing. But if you have an idea and YOU enjoy it, then pursue it. Go for it. Even if some people might hate it, the fact that you like it means that there will be others who will like it as well. The task is finding them … see above re. spade work!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Don’t touch that, it stings.”

What are you reading now?
I’m re-reading Jurassic Park actually. Just to fuel those garden fantasies of mine.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully, a tonne more Edward Brett. I love this character so much, and I really want others to love him too. So I’m hoping to write many, many more adventures for him. He’s been forgotten for too long!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
– The Adventures of Edward Brett: Volume One (what, I’m not allowed to like my own book?)
– Dinotopia by James Gurney (it’s a children’s book but it takes me away)
– Any of the Shardlake books by C.J. Sansom
– Ah what the heck, let’s take Lord of the Rings, that way I might actually finish it!

Awesome Author - Vanessa Kittle

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written somewhere around 15-20 books. I used to do cooking, romance, and poetry, but now I only do fantasy and science fiction as they are my favorites.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The School for Humans.
This is inspired by wanting to write a complete epic fantasy series.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not so much anymore. But for many years I always wrote with pen and paper. I probably would still do this if it weren’t for my 4 fingered typing. I liked pen and paper because I felt more thoughtful and because when I typed it in I got a nice preliminary edit.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Tolkien certainly – far more than all others put together times ten.
Lewis. Asimov. Salinger.

What are you working on now?
The sequel to The School for Humans and a weird series of sci-fi mysteries YA set way way in the future.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do the list of actual free promotion sites. This used to be quite a long list when I started some 6 years ago. But now it’s about 30 to 40.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write because you have to.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write for yourself.

What are you reading now?
Nothing right now.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing of course.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Fellowship of the Ring
Harry Potter 3.
Franny and Zooey

Awesome Author - MT Bostick

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve published one book and am currently in revision and editing on my second.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is Warrior Girls The Beginning. There wasn’t just one particular thing that inspired it. It’s more a mishmash of authors I’ve read like J.D. Robb, Ben Bova, Douglas Preston Lincoln Child (The Pendergast Series), and the original Star Trek television series. This last will be more noticeable in my next books.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think I do. When I start to write I write straight through to the end before I start editing. I submit my work to a writer’s group where it gets critiqued, then I go through a series of steps where I begin my revising and editing. After that, I send it out to three different people who then critique and edit the book from a reader’s point of view. When that information is returned I use it to update my manuscript. I then edit by having the story read out loud by my computer. After that, I print out the manuscript, get my trusty red pen and begin one last edit.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve mentioned a couple, J.D. Robb and Ben Bova, but other writers like Janet Evanovich, Sue Grafton, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

What are you working on now?
The second book in my series; Warrior Girls Basic Training. My two main protagonists Marceline and Kayla Fairstar join the United Intergalactic Expeditionary Force. This book is about their basic training experiences and includes another murder. They meet many new people, human and non-human.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Right now Amazon and this newsletter. I’ve just started marketing my book and have a lot to learn on how to and where to.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read, read, read, and then read some more. If you go indie I suggest investing in books on how to market, how to write, and how to get those first book reviews.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Read, read, then read some more. Become a voracious reader. That is how you learn to write by reading books others have written and learning their styles.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading four books right now Water for Elephants, White Oaks, The Monster of Florence, and a Amelia Peabody mystery The Deeds of the Disturber.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To continue my series, learn more about my craft, learn to launch and market a book and where to market my book.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Definitely To Kill A Mockingbird, The Relic, The Reliquary. I think.

Awesome Author - Mary Elizabeth Fricke

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is another update. It’s been a really rough year so I must admit I have not accomplished much in the way of publishing. I had to have parathyroid surgery and a lumpectomy. They got all the cancer but I’m still in residual recovery from the parathyroid which has caused serious side effects as the result of calcium deposits along my spine and joints. Those parathyroids are mean little buggers. If you have read any of my previous interviews, you know I am a country girl through and through (having lived in rural Missouri all of my life) and a huge supporter of Awesome Gang and all their promotions.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Birds in Peril Boxed Set as an e-book collection. The first four books in the Birds in Peril Series. I am currently finishing–and hope to publish soon–the final two stories of the series. As the 4th story–Robin Unaware–was published in 2017, my goal is to renew interest in the entire series. Here is the official series description/blurb: Five women met, fell in love with and married men who aided the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of Sheldon Humsler. Even though the events that disrupted their lives, did not necessarily involve Humsler, they certainly invoked the conviction that one-day Humsler would find a way to enact his revenge. All of these women and the men they married are in some way closely connected to Humsler’s arch enemies, Benton Cromwell, T.J. Harvester and Thad Hunt. Because of Humsler, Benton Cromwell’s life and livelihood have become so precarious he now lives as an invalid on borrowed time. However, his friends, T.J. Harvester and Thad Hunt, continue to grow in family, and indeed. Both are well-loved by many. The time is near when a final confrontation with Humsler must occur. Humsler has an accomplice…someone closely connected to Hunt….but who could that possibly be?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m a night owl…..awake more and more during the dark of night than I am daylight hours

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My reading habits are eclectic in that I read most anything and everything I can get my hands on. My favorite authors are romance authors who have branched over into suspense, mystery and paranormal. Sandra Brown, Nora Roberts, Jude Devereaux to name a few. I am also a huge fan of women who write non-fiction like Erma Bombeck and poetry such as Mia Angelou. My favorite book of all time is the historical romance Ashes in the Wind by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss.

What are you working on now?
5 and 6 editions to finish the Birds in Peril Series
#5 Wise, Bold Eagle
Sylvia Pentherst is the fifth woman to marry into the Hunt-Harvester-Cromwell group. A widow in her mid-fifties, she survived years of hardship caring for her invalid husband and raising her three sons. Her now-seemingly-settled life takes a turn toward unpredictable when she leaves the comfort of managing County Hospital Housekeeping for the chaos of opening and maintaining two novelty shops along with Lisa, Jani, Susie, and Stephanie. Is it really possible to find that second chance at love with Thad Hunt?

#6 BlueBird of Happiness
After her mother died, Anne was raised by a loving father. She’s always led a sheltered life, even after entering college. Now she’s grown up. An opportunity to spread her wings arises but…Will she soar? Or, will she crash? Is home really where her heart is?
Once the golden boy, Dan is the first to acknowledge the blessing in his remarkable recovery from a fiery automobile accident. But, the abrupt departure of the girl he hoped to be ‘the one’ left scars and uncertainties that haunted him during and after his recovery. Then he met Anne. Innocent, sweet Anne. Does he dare try love again?

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Any and all websites that promote Amazon books, wherever, however, whenever I can find them. I also belong to several author promo groups on FaceBook where I can talk about and promote my books. And, these kinds of interviews where I can list my books as often as possible. These days, an indie author must also be their own sales representative so it is necessary to keep your name and work upfront and high on the list on all these promotional and advertising/listing websites.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just do it. No one can take those words/stories/poems out of your head and put them to computer page or paper but you. So sit down and do it, finish it….you can do all the rewriting you want after that first draft. The first draft is always the most difficult. Editing–rewriting is just improvement over a deed already done.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Finish it! Advice given to me many years ago by a best selling romance author who became a dear personal friend

What are you reading now?
Right now I am beta reading/editing a manuscript written by a fellow author. I have taken to buying and reading the works of newbie indies more than the works of well-known and often-published famous authors. We indies need all the help we can get

What’s next for you as a writer?
Once I get 5 and 6 Birds done, I intend to rewrite another story originally written in the 80’s. It was contemporary romance then but I think I am going to leave the 80’s timeline as it is….just because. After that….who knows? I still have other ideas

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
my bible and my kindle (loaded down with about 30 novels and a well-charged battery)

Awesome Author - Matteson Wynn

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been working as a freelance writer, editor, and copyeditor for over 15 years. In that time, I’ve written a number of educational books for hire, but the Housekeeper series marks the first time I’m not working for someone else, and instead writing the series as an independent author.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The first book in my series is called A House for Keeping. I’ve been thinking about the main character for a while. Nanowrimo helped me get the book off the ground, and I’ve been writing ever since.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I plot, I tend to write things out longhand instead of typing them.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Where do I even start? Douglas Adams, Laurell K. Hamilton, Ilona Andrews, Charlaine Harris, Janet Evanovich, Lloyd Alexander, Neil Gaiman, Louisa May Alcott, Mary Oliver, and Edna St. Vincent Millay, to name just a few.

What are you working on now?
I’m about to publish Book 2 in the series—it’s called A Pool for Company. And, I’m writing Book 3.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m a big believer in being as helpful and honest as possible. I think cross promotions where the authors are legitimately helping to lift each other up are a great idea.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
You can do it! It takes time and patience and a bunch of hard work, but if you keep at it, you can finish your book and release it into the world.

What are you reading now?
Hah. I’m actually rereading A Pool for Company for the gazillionth time to try and catch any last minute issues before I press “publish.”

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh that’s just mean. Well, probably Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, because it’s so darn clever and, let’s face it, if you’re stranded on a desert island, you’re going to need a good laugh. Hmm, other than that, I’d probably bring something enormous where you find something new every time you read it, like the entire Lord of the Rings series or Edna St. Vincent Millay’s complete works. I’d bring at least one steamy romance, because hi, alone, desert island, ahem. Aaaaand, I’d trade that last book for some music because I gotta have me some music.

Awesome Author - Terry Ward

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
In an attempt to escape from dire, Dickensian poverty, I had, thanks to school and mobile libraries, become an avid reader, long before, like some sort of latter-day David Copperfield, leaving home in order to make my own way in a world that has long since disappeared [see my autobiography ‘AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBER’] Inspired by the likes of RL Stevenson, JB Priestley, Henry Williamson, Rudyard Kipling and many other great authors, I continued to write a plethora of naïve stories and poems.
The next thing I knew, I was in the army and being shot at by rebellious tribesmen in the wilds of the Aden Protectorate! Then, after service in Hong Kong [see my latest novel ‘BETWEEN CANCER AND CAPRICORN’] Faint shadows from my past flit across its pages. I volunteered for and was accepted into the elite, swashbuckling force, the Trucial Oman Scouts. To quote Joe Gargery, ‘What larks, Pip, old chap!’
Years later, it was my privilege to form the Trucial Oman Scouts Association and be its chairman for twenty-six years [see ‘ARE YOU THE MAN?’ a unique collection of memoirs and extremely rare photographs illustrating our life in the Seven Sheikhdoms].
World travel, love and marriage, two talented sons and three, equally talented grandchildren-a couple of medals, two ‘creative writing’ prizes and some awards for not poisoning too many people when I worked as a chef, in fact- riches galore!
Eventually, I was able to take early retirement from my position as a university’s Head of Hospitality Services, write my books and have them self- published. I saw no point in approaching publishers; you know, those types who, over the years, have rejected everything from ‘Animal Farm’ to ‘Zen and the Art of Motor-cycle Maintenance’.
My sequel to ‘Oliver Twist’, ‘Jack Dawkins-being the further adventures of the Artful Dodger’, has received five star reviews from readers and critics all over the world. American author, Anthony Avina, has stated that ‘it is a breath-taking and beautiful story that every reader will want to have in their lives.’ Go to it, then!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
‘Between Cancer and Capricorn’ was, in part, inspired by poet James Shirley’s assertion that there is no armour against fate. Looking back over my life, I couldn’t agree with him more!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so. I sit at my keyboard, the words, sometimes unbidden, flow down my arm to my fingers-and appear on the page. It is a strange process; even stranger when a character I have created begins to do, or say, things I hadn’t expected!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many authors, from Nicholas Montserrat, Percy F Westerman, Dickens, Joseph Conrad

What are you working on now?
An anthology

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Public book signings

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Re-write, re-write, re-write

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t be a plagiarist, Ward. Write your own stuff.
Mr Barnes, my English Master

What are you reading now?
Richard Burton’s diary

What’s next for you as a writer?
Christmas book signings

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Stretch a point and allow me to take Anthony Powell’s twelve volume ‘A Dance to the Music of Time’

Awesome Author - Victoria M. Patton

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have used my Forensic Chemistry Degree and my time in the Coast Guard in Search and Rescue/Law Enforcement to write 6 full-length novels, and 1 short story. I will be publishing two more books this year, maybe three.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Blind Vengeance – Final Justice. It is the 5th book in my Damien Kaine Series. My inspiration for it, I needed to push my characters in this series out of their comfort zone, and this killer does just that. Plus, it’s a great revenge book. Truth be told, I think deep down we would all like to exact our own revenge on those who hurt someone we love. Even if you don’t want to admit it to yourself.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I must listen to music. Many times I have a glass of whiskey on my desk. And the TV on with no sound. Oh, and I sing the songs while I write….annoys the heck out of my family.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Nora Roberts
Baldacci
Heather Graham
Patterson
Erik Larson

What are you working on now?
Book two in the Derek Reed series. Along with Book six in the Damien Kaine Series. A short story for an anthology I will be putting it out. It is about a very creepy serial killer. But my favorite, that I am most excited about, is a new horror/thriller serial. Think Constantine meets The Da Vinci Code.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
AMS ads have served me well. Along with Twitter Ads. However, lately I have been using my social media, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and my website. I have a blog that helps drive traffic to it.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
You need to build your author platform. Which is the way you will reach your audience? you don’t have to do everything, just pick a few that will work for you. IE blogs or social media. I do suggest a website. Where you can promote yourself and your books. The key is to not sell your books, it’s to sell yourself. People have to get to know you. You want to build relationships with your readers. By doing that, they will be more apt to support you because of that connection.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write. Don’t get bogged down in the minutia of everything else. Your main focus should be writing. And treat it like a job.

What are you reading now?
Profiles in Murder by Russel Vorpagel. He dissects killers and their crimes.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My goal is to write a book every 45 days and get it to my editor and publish it by the 60th day. I need to get my backlist built up.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmmm, Calvin and Hobbs book, any book by Erik Larson, and Tolkien’s The Hobbit

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am the middle child in a family of three girls. I started making up my own stories at age four. Because I couldn’t yet write, my mom wrote the stories down for me while I painted the pictures. My first story was called Wagland and featured an island community with sea creatures that ate tuna fish sandwiches.

I have a B.S. in Written Communication with a minor in Language, Literature, and Writing from Eastern Michigan University and an MLIS with a specialization in children’s librarianship from Wayne State University. My poetry has been published in literary magazines. I am also an artist and a performance poet. In my free time, I enjoy finding and hiding painted rocks in my neighborhood and going on adventures with my family and friends.

I live with my husband and daughter in a suburb of Detroit, MI. The Healing Star is my debut novel. I often wishes on stars but haven’t caught one yet.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Healing Star. It was inspired by the following:
-a trip to Montreal and Quebec City
-a falling star that I did not see
-two songs by Sara Bareilles from her album, The Blessed Unrest, “Satellite Call” and “Cassiopeia”
-my grandmother
-Jack and the Beanstalk

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Hmm, I like to come up with ideas or solve story problems while jogging. I often jot down thoughts on scraps of paper and napkins, anything I can find. I often stop writing in the middle of a sentence to avoid fear of the blank page the next time I write. I also reward myself after 45 minutes of solid writing with a 15 minute break or treat.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Toni Morrison for her use of symbolism, which is really quite genius. Sharon Creech is also one of my favorites, particularly the book Heartbeat. That’s when I became a fan of novels in verse. I admire her use of poetic language. To that end, I’m also a fan of Jandy Nelson’s I’ll Give You the Sun and Francesca Lia Block’s Weetzie Bat series. My One Hundred Adventures by Polly Horvath was one of those books I just wanted to carry around in my arms for days after reading it. And Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms by Katherine Rundell is just so clever.

What are you working on now?
I just finished writing a dual perspective environmental dystopian YA.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
https://www.facebook.com/A.Kiddwrites/

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep going. Don’t stop until you finish the book. Then edit.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
On writing: “The most important thing about art is to work. Nothing else matters except sitting down every day and trying.”
― Steven Pressfield, The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks & Win Your Inner Creative Battles

On promotion: “Our job in this life is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be, but to find out who we already are and become it.”
― Steven Pressfield, The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles

What are you reading now?
Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo (for a book club)

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m currently promoting The Healing Star and have a book launch planned as well as several author visits. But soon it will be time to start editing that YA novel I just talked about.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Does everyone say the Harry Potter series? Which by the way, it would be 1, 2, 5, and 6 for me.
Otherwise, hmm maybe Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, and the Edge Chronicles: Beyond the Deep Woods by Paul Stewart.
OR The Mortal Engines Quartet by Philip Reeves OR his Larklight series OR his Fever Crumb series

Awesome Author - Morgan St James

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have had many careers, which all help when I’m writing my books. In other words, I know a lot about a lot of things. My favorites are my two crime caper series, Silver Sisters Mysteries and the Revenge is Fun Series. I have also co-authored the true crime memoirs of the two strongest women I’ve ever met: Cheryl Cuccio – Incest, Murder and a Miracle, and Bella Capo – No More Crying Angels. I live in Las Vegas with my rescue dog Dylan, and currently have 17 books in publication with another to be released before the end of 2019.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
SCAMMED – the 5th book in the Revenge is Fun series, released September 2, 2019 in Kindle, ePub, Paperback and Large Print Paperback. Many years ago I was the co-owner of a unique freestanding home in a condo project built on former old MGM property. My home and the 16 unit building that comprised the rest of the complex had lots of construction defaults and I helped get a $1,900,000 settlement for the repairs to the project. The HOA president made life miserable because he couldn’t understand why the repairs to our house would cost $150,000 (all verified) and we wound up in a lawsuit to get the house fixed. I wanted to kill him in print. After all, mystery writer can do that and don’t have to worry about going to jail, but he had the nerve to actually die before I could find the right plot to do him in. It took 15 years, but SCAMMED was the perfect plot and lots of fun to write.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
For years my most productive hours were from 11 pm until about 2 or 3 in the morning. My hours are a little more normal now. However, I never set an amount of hours or words per day. I’m fast. If I’m on a roll it isn’t unusual for me to write as much as 5,000 words in a day. I am gifted with what other writers have called “automatic writing.” My subconscious takes over and sometimes when I do a read-through the next day I don’t even have a clear memory of writing some of it. For that I am so grateful.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I like writers like Robert Crais, Michael Connelly, Jonathan Kellerman, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovich, etc. In other words I like mysteries with twists and turns and a spot of humor. Those are my favorite books to write. However, in co-authoring the two true crime books, they affected me deeply and I became an advocate for domestic and child abuse prevention and awareness. There is a third true crime book that will be in work soon with Bella Capo and Dennis N. Griffin.

What are you working on now?
MURDER ON THE MENU – the 5th Silver Sister Mystery. I am currently in the process of a final edit with my real sister and co-author Phyllice Bradner. It will be released before the end of 2019.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I utilize whatever is available to me. I have found that some of the paid options that seem good in concept really don’t produce sales, so I have stopped using many of them. I give writers workshops at conferences, have been a frequent guest on radio shows, and maintain my own website plus multiple blogs. I’m quite active on Facebook and Twitter, as well.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Very simple. You are never too old. My first book, the Silver Sisters Mystery A CORPSE IN THE SOUP, was published when I was 66 years old. Don’t give up, but DO learn your craft. That is so important. I was with traditional publishers, but now have my own imprint. If you are self-published, never put out something that isn’t up to the quality of a book from a traditional publisher. Your reader has invested in you and they deserve a professional product.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Proof, proof and then proof. Online, audio and a printed book proof. You catch different things in each of them. If you don’t have a buddy to read your work out loud with you, use a program like Natural Reader. It is free.

What are you reading now?
The Morgue, by Dennis N. Griffin

What’s next for you as a writer?
Just keep writing and honing my skills. You are never done learning and no matter how old I get, I always want to learn more.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I like so many books it is hard for me to say. However, I would have one inspirational book, something like Tuesdays With Morrie, and the rest would be mysteries and thrillers.

I have written three books. My main objective is to write to enlighten the world. I am fascinated by the ability to make something out of nothing. I have heard that saying countless times. The something that is created by the mind, signaling by command from the mind to the use both alchemy and quantum physics to engage the atoms to form into our desires. This can be energy or elements created from of charge by the Universe, Seeing the outcome is the key in all we do. We can even bring Unity to all by this knowledge. The more we see this, the atoms form by our command of desires. Everyone can do this. All material items are created by this amazing Science. The power in creating by Science and not purchasing our desires. The creation from thought process can never be taken from you. Material things can be. We all have different desires and experiences. Awesome Author - Stan Loveday

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a retired Firefighter/Paramedic. Having worked in the Fire/EMS field for over forty years, I was looking for a change of pace. That came after Hurricane IRMA. I am now living in the Florida Keys about an older sailboat called “SE of Disorder”. Having only written a few articles about sailing and traveling, the urge to take up writing struck me after moving to the keys.
I currently have two fiction novels on Amazon, with three more in the pipeline due out before Christmas.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book is called “Fireman Down”. Its the first book in a fictional series surrounding a fatal high rise fire and the attempt of one fireman to clear the name of his friend. It follows someone targeting the firemen and setting fires to draw them in. Having been a fireman for over 30 years, many scenes are drawn from personal experiences, allowing me to paint a very dramatic image only someone that has witnessed major fires could.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Most people sit at a desk and work on their writing. Living in Key West, with a year round climate that is perfect, allows me the luxury to write almost anywhere. I can usually be found with tablet and keyboard at any number of locations or establishments around Key West. And on occasion, even sitting on my sailboat writing. Whether listening to a local band playing in the background, or having a glass of Sangria up on Duval street, it is the vibe that this town gives off that motivates me to write. I do believe for me, the tablet allows me the best option for writing wherever I find to sit for more than a few minutes.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Clive Cussler for one. His style of suspense writing is amazing. Have re-read several of his books over the years.

What are you working on now?
Actually have several books in process. First one is “On Distant Shores”. It is a beginners guide for sailing to the Bahamas. Many revisions are now needed due to Hurricane Dorian visit but the basic information is thee same. Book two in the “Fireman Down” series is over 50% done. And the third one is a horror sci fi book yet untitled revolving around GMO foods and a plague that follows.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Thats a tough one. Like many newer writers, getting an acceptable exposure is hard. “Awesome Gang” has proven to be quite reliable in getting that exposure.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I only took up writing after I retired and moved to the keys last year. You are never too old or too late to take up pen or keyboard in hand. And I am a prime example of all those that harp you must a perfect writing environment. That is not for everyone.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Hemingway said it best “Write Drunk, Edit Sober”

What are you reading now?
I am currently between books, having just finished reading an older Cussler novel, “Shockwave”.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Actually started a novel about Hurricane Irma right after I arrived in Key West two years ago. More of a historical fiction, it follows the lives of those impacted by IRMA, and the unfortunate soles that were lost and yet were never counted among the missing. Now after the media exposures the Bahamas, the story is bubbling back to the surface.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Mother Earth News Collection”, “Survival guide for idiots” and the complete works of Garfield the cat!

Read and write – Never give up!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To quote Ernest Hemingway: “Never compete with living writers. You don’t know whether they’re good or not. Compete with the dead ones you know are good. Then when you can pass them up you know you’re going good. Awesome Author - Catherine Buck

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have a degree in history and belong to three national honor societies in education. An avid reader, I am also a public speaker, workshop host and I have experience in talk radio and TV. This is my second book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my book is Granny Buck’s Dibs and Dabs: Appalachian Traditions and Magical Ways.
Most of this collection of material was gathered over the years while I was living in the Uwharrie Mountains, the Asheville area in North Carolina and by visiting Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, and West Virginia border mountain towns and retreats.
Part folklore, part “how-to”, part magical and definitely spiritual, it was an interesting book to write and I still enjoy reading over it. I have not found any book yet where this variety of material is been brought together.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I usually write from 3 am until I can’t sit anymore and prefer to write in my pajamas. I keep boxes of materials (interesting trivia and stuff) that I gathered over the years and go through them periodically to give me new ideas or new ways of looking at things.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think it may depend on what type of book I am writing since I love a vast variety of written material.

What are you working on now?
Actually, I am finishing up on two short stories and have two more book projects in the works right now.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method is to keep pushing my material. I love to do talks and workshops as well. I have two websites so far: http://www.belhavenbooks.com and https://www.facebook.com/CSBwriter/?modal=admin_todo_tour

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be patient; constantly work on your manuscript up until it is time to send to a publishing house. If you decide not to get a publisher interested in your materials, the only other option you have is to self-publish and that can be expensive. If you are not familiar with the Indie or self-publishing community, you really should look into it as it is becoming more acceptable to writers and retail bookstores.
It is a hard road to go without a traditional publishing house but the Indie community tries to work with new authors to help them get ahead.
Edit, edit, edit and make sure you thank or recognize those who allowed pictures or materials to be used in your work.
Last but not least; have faith in your work. A rejection slip just means that your materials will most likely be accepted by someone else another day.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You’ve got this; keep going.”

What are you reading now?
I am actually re-reading Shaun Tan’s, Tales from Outer Suburbia. He does such a great job with the books he creates.

What’s next for you as a writer?
What else? More writing. I am also setting up new podcasts and hopefully new talks and book signings.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My newest book, Granny buck’s Dibs and Dabs, basically because it has so many different ways to survive successfully in isolated or rural areas.
A book of T.S. Eliot’s poems and a copy of Rodale’s Illustrated Guide to Herbs.

Awesome Author - Rand Lawrence

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My background in writing started first as a reader. By sixth grade I was writing stories that my homeroom teacher read to my classmates as a reward for completing assignments. This recognition from teachers continued on as I went to other schools. Likewise, my martial art instruction began around the sixth grade.
Presently I have fifteen books listed on Amazon and I am in the process of listing some with Draft 2 Digital. This is without mentioning a few that our currently out of print, and some that are waiting in the line to be published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Protecting Tao is still unpublished and I am almost done with writing it’s sequel. It is about a librarian who marries a man with a shaded past and is fleeing a secret society that he worked for as a protector of secrets. My wife was my inspiration for this series as she has spent her career working in academic libraries.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not at all like most writers I try and write myself into a corner. After this, I stop to go practice swinging a three-foot long razor blade (Okatana: Samurai sword) until I’m ready to write. That is if I’ve not cut myself or someone else. I often pause to do a bit of martial arts as it keeps me fresh.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Frank Herbert, J. R. R. Tolkien, Richard Bach, JK Rowling, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to name a few. But I also like Brad Thor and I’ve been able to practice martial arts with him and he was very encouraging when we spoke of writing. Oh yes, and then there is Tom Clancy, and I love James Clavell and the list goes on.

What are you working on now?
The sequel to Protecting Tao.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am hoping Awesome Gang will be, this is new to me. I also have a new web site, see below.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing even if you don’t rack up bundles in sales it still gives you solace. If you can find others that can relate to you, it might also render them comfort as well. Writing works much like my martial art instruction has done for my students, but with writing I can reach a wider range of people.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“It is said the warrior’s is a twofold way of pen and sword, and he should have a taste for both ways. Even if a man has no natural ability, he can be a warrior by sticking assiduously to both divisions of the way.” Miyamoto Musashi

What are you reading now?
I just finished reading three books but for the life of me they seem a blur. We just buried my mother-in-law.

What’s next for you as a writer?
A new series maybe a short one as a follow up to my nine book series on the Mystic Dream Walker’s.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Jonathan Livingston Seagull”, written by Richard Bach
“DUNE”, by Frank Herbert
“Kon-Tiki”, by Thor Heyerdahl as it would serve me well to know how to get off of said desert island.

Awesome Author - Skye Bailey

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Skye Bailey is my pen and I live in the U.S. I like to write heart-wrenching, dark romance stories with characters that have gone through hardship and abuse and have survived and become thrivers. I myself have gone through many struggles in my life and sometimes incorporate those struggles into my stories. My stories will almost always have HEA endings because I love to give my characters hope and happiness in the end after much hardship. I have currently written seven books. You may contact me through my email at sbauthor100@yahoo.com

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is Beautiful Life. It’s book three of a novella series. It’s actually inspired in part by things I’ve experienced in my own life.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to begin by writing my first draft on paper and pencil. It just doesn’t work for me to begin typing. I have to do it on paper and pencil first. When I get an idea for a story I just go with it. I write and write almost nonstop until I finish it. Then I take my time to refine it, polish it, and edit it.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
C.S. Lewis, Therese of Lisieux, Augustin of Hippo, Karol Wojtyla, Sue Grafton, Anna Zaires, Kathleen Kirkwood, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, Brooke St. James, Leah Atwood, and Fulton Sheen.

What are you working on now?
I just finished the third book in my Beautiful Series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Goodreads is the best website for me that has helped me in promoting my books and giving them exposure. I also like doing the amazon book giveaways to give them exposure and using the amazon promotional services because they are affordable and help put my books out there.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to aspiring writers is to just do it. Read, read, and read, in the genre that you want to write about and do some research about it. Then just write. When you’re just starting out on your rough draft don’t worry about grammar or punctuation or spelling, that will come later. Just worry about writing down your story and ideas. Don’t be afraid to fail. Your first book is most likely going to have many mistakes but the great thing is that you can always go back and fix errors and write new editions.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t worry about negative reviews and don’t listen to people who try to discourage you to follow your dreams. If you really want to write a book, then write it. Follow your heart and your dreams and take a risk on yourself.

What are you reading now?
The Elusive Flame by Kathleen Woodiwiss and Shades of the Past by Kathleen Kirkwood.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep writing as long as I enjoy it.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Kathleen Kirkwood Collection #2: The HEART Trilogy, and Mia & Korum: The Complete Krinar Chronicles Trilogy.

Awesome Author - Amy Rowland

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have just published my first book which is a university essay writing guide. I work in a university helping scientists to apply for research funding. Winning grants to carry out scientific research is very competitive, and academics find it difficult to explain their science niche to non-experts and make a compelling argument to receive funding. I help them to communicate why their area of research is so important and their idea is worth supporting!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first book is called 7 Steps to Your Best Essay. I finished my MA a couple of years ago and felt like I’d really nailed down a good system for essay writing by the time I’d finished. It seemed a shame to let that knowledge just sit unused in my brain so I decided to get it on paper.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so! I definitely prefer writing on paper while I get my ideas formed. When I’m editing I have to be curled up with my work on my lap – I do this with funding proposals in the office too which gets me some funny looks from time to time!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I studied English at university so this could turn into a very long list! So if I had to just pick one it would have to be Toni Morrison – her writing is so beautiful, even when she covers the most harrowing subject matter. She will be missed!

What are you working on now?
Before I get distracted with a new project I want to dedicate some time to marketing book number one. I’ll be continuing to publish posts on my blog write-fly.com – this will be much easier now that the book is finished.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Time will tell on this one! I drive traffic to my blog via Pinterest, but I’m branching out into some new methods with the book.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just get it written, finished and out there.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never accept unsolicited advice..!

What are you reading now?
The Essays of Virginia Woolf 1904-1912

What’s next for you as a writer?
Plenty of blogging until my next big idea is fully formed!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Song of Solomon – Toni Morrison
The Norton Anthology of Poetry
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – J.K. Rowling

Awesome Author - David K. Wilson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been a writer in some form or fashion for decades now. I grew up in the small East Texas town of Lindale. After college, with a dream of “going to Hollywood”, I moved to Chicago (I’ve never been good with directions). It was there that I started writing scripts at night while working in advertising during the day. I eventually moved to upstate New York (again… bad with directions) and had a few of my screenplays produced. I also started ghostwriting and, through that, developed an itch to write my own fiction. I recently published my first book, COMBUSTIBLE.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
COMBUSTIBLE is my first and only book (so far). It will be the first of a series of Sam Lawson Mysteries. I’ve always loved mysteries and am a true crime podcast addict. While talking to my girlfriend about a scandalous murder in her hometown, I got the idea for my book. With her story as a launching pad, I started asking “but what if?” over and over. It eventually landed me at a place unrecognizably far away from the original story.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I’m big on outlining. Probably half of my writing time is detailed outlining. Because I write mysteries, many times I work backward from the end. And then I start poking holes in everything. I also go through the entire book from each character’s point of view. This helps keep me honest. The story serves the characters instead of the other way around. It’s also the most fun part of the writing process for me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love the taut, hard-to-put-down style of James Patterson – short chapters, but each one ends with just enough of a hook to make you want to read the next chapter. And the next.
I love the characters of Elmore Leonard and the humor of Carl Hiaasen and Christopher Moore. There are so many more but these authors come to mind immediately.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on the second book of Sam Lawson Mystery series. I’m still in the outline phase but it’s getting tight enough where I’ll soon start writing the first draft.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
COMBUSTIBLE is my first book so the whole promotion arm of it is new to me. Ironic because I’ve worked in advertising most of my adult life. So far, I’ve experimented with Facebook Ads and Amazon Sponsored Ads and, of course, the Awesome Gang site.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just do it. Just write. Don’t worry about making it perfect. Don’t worry about if it will sell and how you’ll publish it. Just get out your first draft and make peace with the fact that it’s not going to be good. It’s not supposed to be. The first draft is like building the framework for a house. No one would ever expect to move into the framework. But you can’t build the house until it’s done.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Pretty much the same as my advice. Ha ha It was good advice, so I passed it along. Another bit of advice given to me was “make the time.” Life is not likely to GIVE you enough time to write. You have to take it or make it.

What are you reading now?
I’m actually about to take a much-needed vacation and am looking for a couple of books to take with me. One that I’m excited to read is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to get my next book finished by the end of the year. And I’ve already got the general idea for the book after that. In fact, I’ve got my next four books planned out. I just need to get busy writing!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Jitterbug Perfume” by Tom Robbins. My all time favorite book.
“And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie.
“The House Next Door” by James Patterson (it’s three books in one)
And if “How to Survive If You’re Stranded On a Desert Island” exists, that would probably be a smart one to have.

Awesome Author - Cheyenne Ploskonka

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m 23, engaged to the love of my life and child’s father. I am a mother of a beautiful seven month old baby girl, named Willow. I started off writing as a way to express my feelings so I would not have to hold them in, and now I write to publish. I have two books, so far, published. Both of my books, Wilted Within and You Were My Light In The Darkness, are two poem books based off of my feelings from the last year and a half.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Wilted Within and it’s based off of going through a hard time in my life, falling into a deep depression and how I tried to get through it. It describes the mess that I had going on in my head through poems.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unusual, hmm… I start off binge writing, for hours I sit there just writing. Then I continue that process over a few weeks, and when I have hundreds of pieces of paper in front of me, I fix mistake and pick and choose poems I like and put them in an order I like. Maybe not unusual but it is what works best for me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ellen Hopkins, by far one of my favorite, I believe I’ve in a way incorporated her style of poems, in with mine.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m not currently working in anything, as I have been very occupied by motherhood. I am brainstorming in my free time, but I never really plan anything, words and ideas just flow out of me.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon is my choice.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do not think about what people will say about your work. I would write poems or short stories, worry about what people would have to say abouty work, then dispose of it. I could have written several books by now, but my anxiety always made me rethink and dispose of my work. I was always scared about what people would have to say and weather or not they would like reading what I wrote. Some people will like your work, some will not. You just can’t worry about that.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t over think things too much, go with the flow.

What are you reading now?
I am currently rereading the Game Of Thrones series.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m not exactly sure yet, I never plan what I am going to write. Sometimes certain things happen in my life and it triggers words in my head, and then they just flow into paper.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Game of Thrones series for sure, The Hobbit, and Milk and Honey.

Awesome Author - Zananai (Zanny) Byron-Davis

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is my first official book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Power of HypnoBirthing: My Pregnancy and Empowering Natural Birth story and How It Can Help You. Six weeks after giving birth to my daughter in January 2019 using HypnoBrthing, I had this insane desire to start writing. So every night after putting my daughter to sleep, I would write my story and relive my experience. I never wanted to forget and I thought it could be such a good resource for other women. I wanted to give first-time moms a new positive narrative around pregnancy and birthing. My experience was so amazing, I wanted to inspire and share this positive story. I also had amazing practical tips that I used that I thought would be super helpful as well.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write when I feel called to; when something drops into my mind and spirit I go and I write and it just flows. I love to meditate also and clear my mind to focus on what I also want to say and be told. I also am very discipline and schedule at least half an hour a day for writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a keen reader and I love down to earth and funny self-help books. Some of my favorites are Denise Duffield-Thomas- Get Rich Lucky Bitch and Chillpreneur. I also loved Jen Sencerio- You’re a Badass at making money.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a HypnoBirthing Journal to help along with the HypnoBirthing course that is offered.
My next step is to do some digital courses around pregnancy and Hypnobirthing support.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use my social media a lot:
Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn @zannybdavis

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Definitely go with what feels right to you, journal out those fears and know you are worthy of having a best selling book and then get to writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be reminded of your worth and know you can have all of your desires.

What are you reading now?
I am reading a new book from a friend of mine. Love is the Law by Marieta Oslenac.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am working on a HypnoBirthing Journal for my community. It’s a journal to help along with the HypnoBirthing practice for better results during your pregnancy, birthing, and new motherhood journey.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My favorites from above and maybe non-fiction. I used to love to read funny romantic comedies. Marian Keynes for example.

Awesome Author - W.D. Kilpack III

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
W.D. Kilpack III is an award-winning freelance writer published in two countries, with works appearing in print, online, radio and television, starting with his first publication credit at the age of nine, when he wrote an award-winning poem. As an adult, he received special recognition from L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future Contest. He has been editor and/or publisher of nineteen news and literary publications, both online and in print, with circulations as high as 770,000. He is an accomplished cook and has two claims he thinks few can match: cooking nearly every type of food on a grill; and nearly being knocked flat when his grill exploded.

He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Westminster College of Salt Lake City. As an undergrad, he double-majored in communication and philosophy, while completing the Honors Program. As a graduate student, he earned a master of professional communication with a writing emphasis. He was also a high-performing athlete, qualifying for international competition in Greco-Roman wrestling.

He is a communication professor and a nationally recognized wrestling coach. He is happily married to his high-school sweetheart and is father to five children, as well as helping to raise five step-children. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he continues to live, coach and teach.

Crown Prince: Book One of New Blood is his first published novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Crown Prince: Book One of New Blood. I had a dream that stuck with me for weeks, just resurfacing over and over. I finally started working out a storyline around it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I read what I write to my wife at night. I call them her bedtime stories.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Homer is the father of the fantasy quest with the Iliad and the Odyssey. Tolkien, of course, took that example and developed it into more of the modern form. It remained fairly static for quite a while, but I think some more recent authors have changed the course of fantasy: David Eddings, Stephen R. Donaldson, Terry Brooks, Melanie Rawn, Tad Williams, Robert Jordan, and the modern-day Tolkien, George R.R. Martin.

What are you working on now?
A fantasy series with clansmen whose culture is embedded in Viking tradition.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
http://www.Kilpack.net

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write, write, write. Every day, at least an hour. Get as many people to read your work as you can. Every piece of feedback, even if you disagree, has some value. Just write.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Folks are usually about as happy as they make their minds up to be.” ― Abraham Lincoln

What are you reading now?
Book 2 of the original Han Solo series.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continuing to promote Crown Prince in preparation for Book 2: Order of Light.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Hobbit by Tolkien, The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer.

Awesome Author - Amy Langevin

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Since childhood, I’ve loved anything to do with witches, asylums, serial killers, psychology, and experimentation. My stories are about breaking destructive cycles and rising above seemingly impossible situations or the tragedy of falling under their weight. I wish to inspire others to conquer their trauma and evolve into stronger people. I’m the author of two short horror stories: “Tied in Love” in Thirteen Vol. 3 and “The Required Bits” in 100 Doors to Madness as well as a horror poetry collection: The Man Who Married Death and a novel: Spineless. My site is: https://amylangevinterrormirror.wordpress.com/. Feel free to stop by!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Spineless. It was inspired from vast experiences with various types of abuse. Somewhere in life, I began to see the abusiveness in the human nature as a separate energy, something infecting the person and something which, if somehow removed, would allow me to experience those people as rational, loving individuals. And so the dream—or experiment was born: Can the abusiveness be sucked out of human nature? Why not? I thought. People aren’t born with it, they acquire it. Spineless is a story representing my idealistic dream to shed abusiveness from human nature so we can all live more happily, freely, and productively.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always write in a tub filled with fake blood and Mr. Bubble, to the sound of wailing and the scent of burning rules.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My biggest influences, for various reasons, are J.K. Rowling, Poe, The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty, The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy, and The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.

What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on my second poetry collection.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m new at this, so I’m still figuring that out😊

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do things how you want to do them. Be unique. Follow your heart. Keep going until your story is published—no matter what obstacle comes your way!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just when you think you can’t go anymore, keep stepping, and you’ll find you can. Or something like that. It was something my dad said to me a long time ago. It was regarding the dreaded mile run we had to do every year in high school gym class, but I find it very useful in life, too. Thanks, Dad!

What are you reading now?
The Picture of Dorian Gray.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hmmm…so far, just working on my next books.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Any 3-4 I haven’t read.

Awesome Author - Lee Hutch

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Lee Hutch. I’m a retired firefighter/arson investigator. After my career, I became a history instructor at a community college and recently finished my first novel entitled So Others May Live.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
As a firefighter, I always had an interest in the fire service during World War Two. While quite a bit is known about the London Fire Brigade during The Blitz, not much has been written about the German fire service during the War. I set out to interview wartime German firefighters intending it to be part of my Master’s Thesis only to have it wind up in a novel instead.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write (or rather, type) standing up. I suffered a severe injury to my lower spine in 2012 which necessitated my retirement from the fire department. I have many complications from that injury, including the inability to sit for more than around 30 minutes without suffering from severe pain. When I set out to write my book, I knew I couldn’t actually sit at a desk, so I built myself a standing work station. 96K words later, I had a novel.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m a huge fan of James Lee Burke, particularly his Dave Robicheaux series. With historical fiction, I enjoy reading James Holland, John Jakes, and Derek Robinson. My favorite novel is Quiet Flows the Don by Soviet author Mikhail Sholokhov. It’s the most remarkable thing I’ve ever read.

What are you working on now?
My current work in progress is Molly’s Song. It follows the fortunes of a young woman who immigrates to New York City in 1862, only to fall victim to sex trafficking. The story centers around her attempts to get out of her situation. It gives a bit of historical context to an issue a lot of people think is a recent phenomenon. The anticipated release is in the late summer or early fall of 2020.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Great question. As a new author, I think I’m often learning the hard way what works and what doesn’t work. Right now, I’m utilizing my website, targeted adds via my author Facebook/Instagram pages, and periodic Amazon adds. I’ve had the most success with Amazon adds.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing. I know that sounds like a cliche, but it is easy for new authors to get discouraged and give up. Don’t. Someone out there needs to read your book!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever received was to stop worrying about things I had no control over.

What are you reading now?
I’m presently reading a couple of books. First, I have delved into Rick Atkinson’s The British Are Coming, the first book in his American Revolution series. As far as fiction goes, I’m reading The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. It’s a remarkable novel!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to finish Molly’s Song, and when it goes off to the editor, I will turn my attention to my next novel, one set during the Russian Revolution. After that, I’ll come back to Molly as she’s getting a three book series.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Quiet Flows the Don by Mikhail Sholokhov
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry
The Burning Blue by James Holland
Piece of Cake by Derek Robinson

Awesome Author - Eilat Aviram

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi. I’m a clinical psychologist, hypnotherapist, energy-healing teacher and blogger. In my 23 years of working with people I’ve found that the single most problematic thing people do, that lands them in a whole heap of trouble, is that they DON’T LISTEN TO THEMSELVES. It’s so strange that we do that because we each know deep within ourselves what feels right to us and yet we override that knowing constantly. Then we end up depressed, anxious, unhappy in our jobs and relationships, distressed in our parenting, addicted to various things… When people come to therapy our task is usually to simply look back and find where they overrode their Truth and help them start to live according to their own inner knowing. It works so quickly people sometimes can’t believe it. One client recently looked up at me in our sixth session with huge eyes and a worried expression and asked, “This isn’t a dream is it? This is actually happening to me?” I had to reassure him that yes, now that he had started following his Truth his life really was rapidly improving. That’s why I wrote this book. So more people can learn to do this.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my book is IF YOU LOVED YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD YOU DO NOW? which is the question we need to ask ourselves to find our own Truth. In it I teach a simple and powerful way to make sure that you start to make choices that will lead you to what you seek.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m a parent and have a full-time practice which includes seeing clients, teaching course and running groups. Much of this book was written in the quiet early morning hours when I could just enjoy letting this information stream through me onto the page. I absolutely LOVE the writing process. It energizes and delights me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh gosh, how long do we have?!
Louise Hay was the first self-help book I found at age 15 and it set me on fire! Deepak Chopra, Brene Brown, Joe Dispenza and about a million others have helped me heal myself and bring love and joy to many others.

What are you working on now?
Bringing this to more people through my courses and groups. Part two of this book will come out next year.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website and social media – and in person talks, youtube…

Do you have any advice for new authors?
LOVE THE PROCESS!! Do it the way that is right FOR YOU. Listen to your heart, follow your Truth and CONSTANTLY ask yourself, what will feel most fun for me right now? If I loved myself, how would I do this now?
Then your work will carry the energy of your heart and be a joy for others as well as yourself.
Don’t doubt yourself. If you have the desire to write, it’s yours to write. Just do it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Follow Your Bliss”- Joseph Campbell

What are you reading now?
Ramtha. It’s mind-blowing.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Fun! More writing and sharing this healing information with as many people as possible.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Ramtha, Baghavad Ghita, Illusions by Richard Bach, a really good funny novel.

Awesome Author - Jane Sturgeon

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live and write where The Mersey river meets the Irish Sea and have thrived since I moved here. I work as a life support coach and my writing flows from experiences and challenges we all face. I wrote a book about my internet dating experiences and got through to the finals of the Pulp Idol competition in 2017 and then promptly deleted it all, as it wasn’t kind.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Writing on Water series, of which Self-awareness is the first book, came from a dream held in my life bank for many years. I have chosen a roller coaster ride in life so far and drawing on those experiences and my work as a therapist for over eight years, this book fell onto the page and a second one is in the pipeline.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I use Mel Robbins ‘5-4-3-2-1’ brain hack to stop myself eating my own body weight in chocolate and I have drunk my way through many types of green tea to find one I like, to decrease my caffeine intake. Tropical Green Tea is acceptable (just…).

When my eyes feel square I go outside onto the roof terrace and listen to the song of the leaves in the trees and the call of the water and watching the birds ride the thermals often sparks an idea.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Sarah Ban Breathnach, Mark Nepo, Michael A. Singer, Stuart Wilde and Fred D ‘Aguiar.

What are you working on now?
‘Popty Ping’, the second in my Writing on Water series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still discovering and evolving in my promotion journey, yet indie authors supporting other indie authors, like Vinny #awesomegang, are the rising tide that raises all ships.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Pace yourself and choose a few ways of promoting your work and do them well, as it’s so easy to get overwhelmed with all the options available.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Always keep the promises you make to yourself (Ed Mylett).

What are you reading now?
Sante Montefiore ‘House by the Sea’. I love Sante’s books when I want to escape and lose myself as they are wonderful stories, beautifully told.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Flowing with my Writing on Water series and learning the art of promoting my own work.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Book of Awakening by Mark Nepo
Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach

Awesome Author - Grady P. Brown

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Grady P. Brown and I am a science fiction author who is diagnosed with high functioning autism. I am a connoisseur of the science fiction, fantasy, and superhero genres. In addition, I am an autism ambassador, hoping to demonstrate the potential benefits one can gain from being autistic. As a writer, I utilize my autism to visualize the story taking place inside of my head like a movie. Also, I have a very strong memory, allowing me to store information about my characters and stories in my brain as though it were a computer hard-drive. I am also a passionate pit bull lover and own a pair of sweet and loving pit bulls named Wally and Fitch.

I have written and published six books and counting.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled “The War of the Gilded Beasts” and I took inspiration from medieval history, specifically the War of the Roses. I am a huge history buff and fantasy fan so it gave me an opportunity to engage in both.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
While I am writing, I watch television and listen to music all at the same time. I particularly like watching Forged in Fire from History Channel and I like listening to anime music. All of that helps me concentrate while writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Christopher Paolini, author of the Inheritance Cycle, and George R. R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, have been huge influences for me because they are my favorite fantasy authors.

What are you working on now?
I am working on the sequel to “The War of the Gilded Beasts”, which will revolve around a new generation of characters as they rule the Gradaian Empire.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I enjoy sharing my books through WordPress.com, which is home to my author blog and website.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
History is an goldmine of limitless inspiration. If you are seeking a model to base your story on, choose your favorite historical event. This has done wonders for me.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The only thing more important than gaining knowledge is passing it on.

What are you reading now?
I am reading (or I should say re-reading) the graphic novel Watchmen. It has a new show coming next month so I am getting ready for it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am planning to organize a new book signing, but it will take some time to find a suitable spot.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1.) Moby Dick
2.) Eragon
3.) Fire and Blood
4.) Frankenstein

Awesome Author - Adam Leitman Bailey

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As an owner of several properties and father of two children, I was inspired – and uniquely placed – to write about homes in my 2 books in a way that is relatable to real estate professionals, first-time home buyers, and young minds.

To-date, Home has won a number of awards, including the Literary Classics International Book Award, the Mom’s Choice Award, and the eLit Book Award. Bailey’s first book, a guide for first-time homebuyers entitled Finding the Uncommon Deal, was also a New York Times Bestseller and winner of the National Association of Real Estate Editors “Best First Time Author Award.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book is a children’s book called Home. I have a compelling need to teach and help others — maybe because my parents, step-parents, sisters and brother-in laws are teachers. So when my first book, Finding The Uncommon Deal became a hit, won awards, and made the best seller lists — and most importantly, when I received the hundreds of emails and contacts from people who benefited from the book — I became even more hooked on writing. I am also a columnist for several law publications and as a real estate law and litigator, we do a lot of persuasive writing to help our clients seek justice.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Writing is so fulfilling and gratifying and each book I consider another child. But it is a slow, difficult, and even lonely path to success, so do not do it for money. Do it because you want to help others by telling your story or because you have a compelling story that you need to get out there and will love telling. It should be something that you do not care becomes a best seller or wins awards and recognition. For HOME, I know I have it 100 percent; I am proud of it and I know that each kid I read it to or hear feedback from has loved it. When or if the awards come in, I will be the happiest person on earth, but that is not why I wrote the book.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
By the age of 47 or 48 (depending on which birth certificate you rely on), Alexander Hamilton became the most important American and New Yorker in our history. Since I was young I have striven to be like Alexander. I am now 48. He created the New York Post, Bank of New York, national dollar… He was a leader in fighting in the Revolutionary War, the main author of articles supporting the Constitution… and so much more. AND he also came from humble beginnings and was rejected from the school of his choice, but never gave up and kept producing and producing. I hope to one day have a legacy that can resemble in even the smallest way, Mr. Hamilton’s.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
As I’ve said before it is a slow and even lonely path to success. Don’t do it for money, you have to do it because you want to help others by telling your story

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Things are going to get really, really bad and horrible — or at least they will feel that way. Keep your head high and believe in yourself, and success will come — maybe in a different form than you originally envisioned — but if you give everything everyday and you stay disciplined, you are bound to make it.

Awesome Author - Arlene F. Marks

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Toronto, spent a lot of years living in various parts of the Greater Toronto Area, and finally moved to Collingwood, Ontario when I retired from the high school classroom in 2012. That was a huge turning point in my life, because I was finally free to do what I’d always wanted to do: have a writing career. Up until then, I’d been teaching full time and writing in my spare time (winter and summer breaks, basically). Now I write full time and conduct occasional writing workshops.

My writing output before 2012 was sporadic and more or less eclectic. I did substantive editing for a line of romantic suspense novels, then wrote one of my own. I also had a few children’s stories published in local magazines, wrote a middle grade novel, even wrote press releases one summer for an IT company. A self-published teaching manual written in collaboration with another educator drew submissions from other teachers, and next thing I knew I was a micro-publisher of educational materials. That adventure lasted for about ten years. Don’t ask me how I managed to do all this while raising two children and running a household. Just thinking about it now makes me feel tired!

Since 2012, I’ve been much more focused with my writing. First, I felt compelled to quantify and share what I’d learned over the years about teaching students English and literacy, so I wrote two classroom literacy programs, one for grades 9 to 12 (Literacy Made for All, published by Rowman & Littlefield) and the other an updated version of that first self-published manual (Let Them Write, also from Rowman & Littlefield), collaborating again with the same writing partner. After that, I returned to my first love, speculative fiction, and got busy committing to the page some of the stories that had been floating around inside my head for so very long.

Altogether, I’ve written 7 nonfiction books and 10 fiction books. Three of the fiction books haven’t found homes yet, but the rest were all traditionally published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest published book is The Cockroach Crusade, Book 5 of Sic Transit Terra. I began writing this series of space opera novels in earnest in 2015, after EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing accepted Book 1: The Genius Asylum for publication. It would be fair to say that The Cockroach Crusade was inspired by the four books that preceded it, since it contains the climax of the overarching story arc begun in The Genius Asylum.

The Sic Transit Terra universe, meanwhile, has been growing steadily larger, clearer, and richer in my imagination for the past 35 years, and the process will probably never end. Each story that develops in this universe shows me a corner of it that I hadn’t noticed before.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not unusual for me, but perhaps others might consider it peculiar. I talk to myself while drafting at the keyboard. I act out scenes of dialogue, with gestures and facial expressions. Sometimes, when I’m working out the details of a conversation, I’ll step into one of the roles and talk to myself in the bathroom mirror. In character. While washing my hands. (Okay, maybe it is a little unusual.)

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Every book I read influences me in some way. I grew up greedily absorbing the classic sf authors. Ray Bradbury, of course. Harry Harrison. Robert A. Heinlein. Et many al. Reading in the genre made me want to write in it as well. More recently, I’ve found inspiration and examples to follow in the work of Terry Pratchett, Janet Kellough, and J.K. Rowling. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern was, for me, a master class in evocative descriptive writing. But the author who made the deepest impression on me (because she had only written four books that I knew of and every story went straight to my heart) was Zenna Henderson. She set the bar that I keep striving to reach.

What are you working on now?
I am currently writing the sixth Sic Transit Terra book, titled The Identity Shift. It picks up the first story arc four years after the end of The Cockroach Crusade, tying up some loose ends and laying the foundation for the next round of storytelling.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t actually have a single “best” method. It’s a question for me of how most wisely to invest my time and energy, given that I’m now in my 70s, with about thirty books that I still want to write. So I have an author’s page on Facebook, as well as one for Sic Transit Terra, and I make a point of attending two literary conferences a year, where I give workshops, perform readings, and participate on panels.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
For someone just starting out, it’s important to realize that writing puts you on a lifelong learning curve. It’s not just about the research. Every book you read is going to teach you something about the craft, so it’s important to read as much and as widely as you can.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write the book that demands to be written. Write the stories your characters bring you. Focus on telling the most engaging tale you can, and let the publishers and booksellers worry about such things as genre. If necessary, they’ll create a new one just for you. After all, once upon a time there was no such thing as a paranormal romance.

What are you reading now?
I’ve got three books on the go: Mort by Terry Pratchett, the Superheroes Universe anthology edited by Mark Shainblum and Claude Lalumiere (EDGE), and Cylons in America: Critical Studies in Battlestar Galactica, edited by Tiffany Potter and C.W. Marshall.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have an entire filing cabinet filled with “summer stories”, novels and novellas that I began writing in July and had to abandon in August when it was time to prepare for the coming school year. When The Identity Shift is completed, I plan to find a summer story that speaks to me and finish writing it.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A dictionary, a thesaurus, and a really good world atlas. And several reams of paper, and a lifetime supply of writing tools. In other words, the makings for many books. And writing them would keep me sane.

Awesome Author - Bridgitte Jackson-Buckley

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Biography:

Bridgitte Jackson-Buckley (born in Los Angeles, CA in 1971) is an American author, blogger, memoirist and interviewer.

As an only child for 16 years, Bridgitte loved to read beyond her skill level. She always carried a pocket dictionary while reading Stephen King books. Displaying a natural talent for writing during her youth, Bridgitte has been writing in journals since she was in the fourth grade. During college, Bridgitte moved away from writing to pursue a “practical and safe” career in medicine.

Several years later, and after a variety of occupations, Bridgitte returned to her first love – writing – and quickly became known for in-depth articles on leading New Thought luminaries such as: Eckhart Tolle, Iyanla Vanzant, Deepak Chopra, Radhanath Swami, Elizabeth Gilbert, Penney Peirce, Elizabeth Lesser, Paul Selig, Marie Forleo, and several others including American singer, songwriter and guitarist Trevor Hall.

As a freelance writer, Bridgitte has written online articles for Examiner, Tiny Buddha, Recreate Your Life Story, Medium, Patheos, Thrive Global and Gaia.

She was the lead writer to launch Oprah Winfrey Network’s Super Soul Sunday website, the 21-Day Become What You Believe Meditation and Seven Days to Restful Sleep for “Oprah & Deepak’s Guide to Whole Health” in addition to various articles for Super Soul Sessions I-III.

With a writing focus that includes spirituality, change, challenge and transformation, Bridgitte’s writing unexpectedly draws readers inward through her ability to convey complex spiritual concepts in a practical and accessible style.

Bridgitte’s educational background includes a B.A. degree in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley and the United States Peace Corps, both which have given her a broad base from which to approach many topics. Being bilingual, Bridgitte has traveled extensively throughout Central America including Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua from which much of her travel writing is based upon. Additional travels include Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand.

Bridgitte now resides in Los Angeles with her husband, three children and Miniature Schnauzer, and enjoys working with individuals and organizations who are interested in conscious change, conscious business practices, conscious leadership and empowerment.

The Gift of Crisis is Bridgitte’s first book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Gift of Crisis: How I Used Meditation to Go From Financial Failure to a Life of Purpose

“Since the start of the recession, 8.8 million jobs have been lost, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.” I was one of those 8.8 million people. In 2009, I was laid off the research project I worked on due to funding being suspended. “Between 2007 and 2014” I was also one of “7.3 million consumers” who lost a home to foreclosure.

Some affected by job loss and foreclosure, due to the economic downturn, were able to bounce back relatively emotionally unscathed. Many, however, internalized the outer events as a negative reflection of their personal capacities without taking a deeper look at the crisis as a potential underlying catalyst.

Although a personal economic crisis can be viewed as both an externally influenced event beyond your control yet within your control, it can also be an opportunity to examine the conscious and sub-conscious conditions that brought the experience into your life. If thoughts and beliefs create experiences, so do unexamined thoughts and beliefs. It was through my experiences of prolonged financial crisis, that I realized I subconsciously co-created experiences that felt so bad until the only place I could go was within—exactly where I needed to go.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Ambivalence!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
Stephen King :))
Wayne Dyer, The Power of Intention
Paul Selig, The Book of Knowing and Worth: A Channeled Text

What are you working on now?
Continuing with spirituality themed book interviews and articles. I love speaking with authors and sharing stories that are practical, helpful, inspiring, encouraging and necessary.

I’ve also moved into a completely different area: Screenwriting
For some time, I wanted to try to write a script but I was terrified. Over the course of the past year, I took steps to overcome that fear.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
1. Responding to HARO requests.
2. My blog on Medium.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Before becoming a published author, I had no idea what to expect beyond my personal thoughts.

While it has been an exhilarating and affirming experience, I can definitely say my thoughts leaned more to the fantastical side more than the realistic side.

Here are some examples of my fantasies and what I now know about being a published author:

1. Fantasy. You will have endless satisfying conversations with readers. Family and friends will stumble over themselves to tell you how much they liked your book.

Reality. You have some conversations that are deeply precious. You hold them close to your heart because you are pleasantly surprised at the individuals your book resonated with and the ways in which they were inspired.

2. Fantasy. After the book is published, you can relax, enjoy the accolades and watch it all gloriously unfold.

Reality. You can’t relax! You can’t even dip a toe into the waters of relaxation. You have social media platforms to update, book events to organize, daily marketing, grocery shopping trips to Costco, after school classes, the impulse to write another book without a clearly formulated idea, date night, a blog to maintain, writing ideas to develop and of course, navigating the million dollar question from (certain) family members: “Are you a millionaire yet? We’ll know if your book is any good if you suddenly move to a house in Malibu.”

3. Fantasy. Your author interviews will be carved into literary history.

Reality. Once an interview is scheduled, you must first ask the most important question: Is this a video or audio interview? That determines almost everything…if you must look presentable or simply sound presentable. Once that is determined, you spend hours re-reading through your notes, meditating, coaching yourself, and deep breathing to calm your nerves so you show up as the best version of you. And you’re still nervous. Slowly but surely, you do gain confidence.

4. Fantasy. Literary festivals, book fairs and conferences will consistently reach out to you to join them (all expenses paid) as a panel guest to discuss your book.

Reality. Trying to get your book accepted into a book festival, conference or literary event can feel like trying to gain entry into a club that’s not accepting new members. However, you can direct your attention to smaller local festivals and events in your community. You can also participate in larger festivals with other authors. Meeting amazingly, wonderful like-minded authors is one of the best parts of being an author. Their kindness, determination, willingness to share information, genius level creativity and camaraderie will leave you in awe.

5. The book will sell itself.

Nothing. Could. Be. Farther. From. The. Truth. When each author was asked what they wish they had known prior to being a published author, they were also asked what they wish they had known about marketing before their book was published. Here are some responses:

“Marketing takes A LOT of time. You need to be very clear on WHY you wrote the book and have total confidence in the importance of telling others about the book.”

“A new author must be prepared to spend for the necessary investment to get their book out.”

“Hire a publicist for professional connections and to discover unknown markets. Getting published can be one of the most powerful things to leverage. However, you MUST know how to talk about your book and (sometimes) this requires the help of a media coach.”

“Our strategy would have been totally different. We promoted ourselves as authors as opposed to promoting what the content of the book and what it would do for the reader.”

“Start earlier than you can imagine. I wish I had known how far in advance I should have begun to promote the book, seek publicity opportunities, and schedule speaking engagements.”

6. Fantasy. You’ll be the same person.

Reality. “Writing a book requires you to change because in order to do these things you have to.” It also requires you to travel a cathartic and emotional journey that never would have happened if your book had remained unpublished. Your perseverance, imagination, fortitude, and creativity — all expressed in your book, your writing — brings the reader into a world they could never experience otherwise.

Despite fantasy vs. reality, known and unknown, and inevitable highs and lows, writing is a way of life.

It can feel like the air you breathe and what makes your heart continue beating. Often times, your soul is filled with unspoken words until you sit down and pour them through your heart like a sieve. This is what writing is to the writer — a way of life.

“We are drawn to it, sometimes despite our efforts to pull away.”

And because of this, you come to understand this journey — the journey of being a writer, publishing a book, telling a story, sharing words and maybe helping others find a way — has contributed to your growth, both as a creator and a person and for this reason…yes, it is absolutely worth it!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A few years ago, I was looking for a reason to continue writing. At that time, I was discouraged because my writing queries went unanswered, my online posts received little to no views, and I began to think (maybe) after years of writing, my efforts to be a writer were futile attempts at something that was simply not meant to be.

However, after reading THE ALCHEMIST, I was brought to tears. It felt as though the accessible and encouraging messages were written for me. It was at that time I contacted Mr. Coelho on Facebook through a private message. To my surprise, he responded.

Here is our the Facebook conversation:

Mr. Coelho, I finished reading The Alchemist for the first time last night. I read it in six hours. When I read the last page I began to cry, because The Alchemist, for me, is an Omen…I was just about to give up on my “Personal Legend” of being a writer. Thank you. http://www.examiner.com/spirituality-in-national/bridgitte-jackson-buckley Thank you. Thank you.

This was his reply on June 26, 2016:

“Hi Bj!

Thanks for your message. The contact with my readers gives me joy and strength to continue my work.

Writing tips: http://paulocoelhoblog.com/2014/10/31/writing-tips/Keep on fighting for what is important to you and the world.”

I followed the above link he sent to his blog which outlines Mr. Coelho’s tips for writers and took the following advice to heart:

“I write the book that wants to be written. Behind the first sentence is a thread that takes you to the last.”

Almost two years after reading THE ALCHEMIST and the encouragement it inspired to once again believe in the possibility of having a dream come true, my memoir entitled THE GIFT OF CRISIS: HOW I USED MEDITATION TO GO FROM FINANCIAL FAILURE TO A LIFE OF PURPOSE, was published by Mango Publishers in October 2018.

What are you reading now?
“Rosewater by Tade Thompson. Rosewater is a town on the edge. A community formed around the edges of a mysterious alien biodome, its residents comprise the hopeful, the hungry and the helpless—people eager for a glimpse inside the dome or a taste of its rumored healing powers.”

“Kaaro is a government agent with a criminal past. He has seen inside the biodome, and doesn’t care to again—but when something begins killing off others like himself, Kaaro must defy his masters to search for an answer, facing his dark history and coming to a realization about a horrifying future.”

What’s next for you as a writer?
Mulling around with ideas for children’s picture books, a spiritual sci-fi fantasy adult series and another personal growth memoir.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Your Soul’s Plan by Robert Scwhartz
The Journey Home by Radhanath Swami
Exhalation by Ted Chiang
My Soul to Keep by Tananaravie Due
