Awesome Author - Beth Cuff

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 18 years old, and have published just one book (so far!). I am from Torbay in Devon, and having just finished my A levels I decided it was the perfect time to get published. When I am not writing, I am preparing myself for my future in Civil Engineering.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is ‘on how scars become temporary’. I was heavily inspired by authors such as Rupi Kaur, Sabrina Benaim and Amanda Lovelace. The whole book is based on personal experience. I did not write to create the book, it is simply a collection of writings done for myself when feelings were two much. These words have helped me to create my own happiness and I wanted to share that with everyone.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Although I wish I could, I never write by hand. I am too much of a perfectionist and make far too many changes on the way.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I adore Rupi Kaur (milk and honey) and Sabrina Benaim (depression and other magic tricks – signed copy!!). I also enjoy Makenzie Campbell’s book – 2am thoughts, and Amanda Lovelace’s series of work.

What are you working on now?
The paperback copy of my ebook!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I am far too much of a new author to have any advice

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To remember that you have written for yourself, if you don’t like your work, or someone else doesn’t, it doesn’t matter because you did it for yourself and it helped to process your feelings and thoughts.

What are you reading now?
I am constantly just flicking through all my favourite poetry books

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Milk and Honey
The Book Thief
The Girl on the Train
Depression and Other Magic Tricks

Awesome Author - Michael Poeltl

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Michael Poeltl was voted Best Writer/Author for 2010 in October by View Magazine:
A weekly alternative newspaper reaching over 1 million potential voters/viewers.
Poeltl has released a general fiction novel; Her Past’s Present, a children’s novella: West of Noreaso, A Dytopian Trilogy; The Judas Syndrome, the Hello Me series – teaching children and adults alike the science of their spirit, and in 2015: Waning Metaphorically; A collection of short stories. An Angry Earth – A cautionary tale of ignorance and the apocalypse – which is an illustrated Picture book, was released in October of 2016.

Always grateful for the opportunity to get my books (and ideas) out there and into the hands of readers.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A.I. Insurrection – Exodus
This is the third in the A.I. Insurrection series and the inspiration is that the first two are doing well and the characters just can`t leave well enough alone. Charater-driven books are the most fun to write as they talk to me and I do what I`m told unless I feel it doesn`t serve the overall story.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unusual in that if a strong enough personality arises in the story, they tend to do things I hadn`t imagined myself, or so it seems. SO I let characters drive the plot after I thought I`d already plotted everything out. It makes for some interesting twists.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I`m a big fan of Dan Simmons and his Hyperion series which has influenced my own writing.

What are you working on now?
Book 4 of the A.I. series. I think where I`m taking it is exciting enough for a fourth book and many original characters will be required to come along for the ride as well as a few new ones to add some interest and feed the plotline.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I`ve tried a few but I feel my facebook page is an excellent opportunity to get the word out to a larger audience. That and my Amazon author profile. Goodreads is tops for me though. This is where readers actually offer up reviews and ratings which help get the word out organically.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t doubt yourself. Write what you want to read, and you will find your audience. This and have others edit your work. You’ll never catch everything no matter how many times you read your manuscript.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you want to read. Period.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading the classic Tales of a Dying Earth. It’s solid sci-fi/fantasy and I hear it’s the book D&D was based on. Very much enjoying it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I tend to write in multiple genres so I don’t get tied down to any one genre for long. So who knows. I may continue with the sci-fi a little while longer

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Hyperion Cantos for sure. Beyond that, it’s a crapshoot.

Awesome Author - Trevor Rex

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Well Like I said in the author bio for my book, I’m a huge fan of Fantasy in general, be it literature, movies/series, anime or videogames. I just love to see worlds and characters that seem otherworldy yet always kind of anchored on how we view the normal world.

About books, admitedly only one proper has been made, a very long one, but only one, which I broke into 6 volumes for accesivibility. You could say I make the mistake of putting all my eggs into one baskted, this effort includes planning all the characters, backstories, world building and all that jazz.

Then I spent like 2-3 years translating it on the side, from its OG language Spanish, into English, so now I plan to release semi-regularly through this shorter “Volume” format with bilingual releases.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Destiny Changers: Liahona’s Guidance. And while this may not get me much points with the readers, it was inspired mainly by the videogame The World Ends With You and the Anime/manga HunterxHunter, also my love for creating excentric chracters comes from my love of the Ace Attorney videogame Franchise

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I play the rhythm game “Osu!” for like half an hour before writing anything, it gets blood pumping into my brain. I also like to meditate.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Sorry for the non-answer, but besides the ones I listed on the other question, It’s hard to pintpoint any in specific, everything I consume ends up influencing me and my writing, some in small ways, others in bigger ones.

What I can say is that I always try to consume a diverse quantity and kinds of media, precisely to have more from where to draw from, and I would recommend any aspiring author to do the same, or they may risk even their original works to feel like a Fanfic.

What are you working on now?
Re-writing the sequel’s plans, as they are 3 years old, and I don’t feel as satisfied by them as I used to be.

I hope that means I improved over the last few years, and the end product will be much better than it would have been otherwise.

I also want to start properly planning a spin off based on a side character that will be introduced on the sequel. Heh… In some ways I may be more excited about that one than I am about the sequel proper.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am a total noob when it comes to that, so I guess… awesome gang!!!!! Ha haha, or at least I hope I can say that about you guys in a month or so.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t let yourself be stuck by a single mindset, author or genre, and plan a lot!

What are you reading now?
In between my own projects and my dayjob I haven’t had much time to read books, I end up leaning on videogames for stress relief, sorry for the non-answer again

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing? In truth my current plans are to fully finish this saga, then move on to videogame desiging, my hope is that the sucess from this books help me finance mid-sized interactive project, as I am a huge fan of Game design theory, in many ways it just fascinates me how much you can make a person experience than with simple stories being told to them.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The frigging most T H I C C in the market, at least they would keep me warm at night. Ha ha ha.

Say what you want, but in a Desert island my last concern would be how use leisure time at all, probabbly would just drop on the bed made of leaves and skinned animals after a long day of not dying.

Awesome Author - Joseph J. Madden

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I wrote my first story at the age of six, but didn’t really get into writing until about the age of twelve. Was a founding member of my high school’s Creative Writing Club. Self-published my first novel in 2013 and it’s sequel in 2015. Was subsequently picked up by Burning Willow Press in 2016. Have also had several short stories published in numerous anthologies. Currently working on the third book in my series, as well as several other works.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Starhawk Chronicles: Rest and Wreck-reation is the second book in my Starhawk Chronicles series. I wanted to take my characters, a team of bounty hunters, in a different direction from their first book, so I basically sent them on vacation. Chaos ensues. It was a hell of a fun book to write.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Cannot write unless I have music playing, usually film scores by John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, etc.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I grew up reading Mark Twain. I enjoy authors from many different genres. Dean Koontz, Clive Cussler, JRR Tolkien, Timothy Zahn, Arthur C. Clark…the list goes on and on.

What are you working on now?
I have several projects going on at once. The third book in The Starhawk Chronicles series, plus a few spin-off/stand-alone works.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I try to cover as much social media as possible. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and MeWe are all on that list, though I find Facebook has the greatest range.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. It’s incredibly hard to break into this business. I suffered through years of rejections from both agents and publishers before going the self-published route. Ironically, it was after being self-pubbed that I found a publisher interested in dealing with me. Persistence is key. And never stop writing, no matter how discouraged you may get.

What are you reading now?
Walt Disney: An American Original by Bob Thomas. Every time I need a creative pick-me-up I read this. Walt is my idol, and his story is truly inspirational.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To just keep writing and publishing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The aforementioned, Walt Disney bio. My collected works of Mark Twain. Timothy Zahn’s Heir To The Empire trilogy

Awesome Author - L.R. Braden

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a Colorado native, a wife, a mother, and along with being an author I’m also an artist and a library clerk. I’ve *written* five books so far. Three in my adult urban fantasy series (The Magicsmith), one sci-fi adventure waiting for a sequel, and one stand-alone YA. Of those, A Drop of Magic released July 31, 2019, Courting Darkness will release August 23rd, and Faerie Forged should drop before the end of the year.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I was inspired to write A Drop of Magic after reading yet another urban fantasy novel where the protagonist started out with kick-ass powers they already knew how to use. I wanted to write about someone unaware of their powers, someone who had to learn them and stumble and grow. To put it in comic book terms, I wanted to write an origin story.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not by choice. . . But whenever I sit down at my computer to write, my super cute and snuggly cat hops up and lays across my arms with her head tucked up under my chin. She’s doing it right now in fact.
Therefore, I have gotten in the habit of not moving anything above my wrists for long periods of time. This is not great for my stiff neck, but it’s worth it for kitty snuggles.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Way to many too name, but here goes . . .
Patricia Briggs, Seanan McGuire, Kevin Hearne, Piers Anthony, Terry Brooks, Brandon Sanderson, Tad Williams, J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Jordan, Larry Niven, Terry Pratchett, Brent Weeks, Ann Bishop, Laurell K. Hamilton, Lois Lowry . . . shall I go on?

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on the rewrite of Faerie Forged, book 3 in my Magicsmith series. I’m also starting the pre-writing for book 4, which doesn’t have a name yet.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have active accounts on Goodreads, BookBub, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. So far, I think I’ve had the best response from Goodreads and Facebook. I also have an author newsletter that I use to promote things like sales, recommended titles, and upcoming events to keep people engaged.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Look for people willing to give you constructive criticism and hold them tight. These are you best friends. They will help you grow your work from okay to awesome!
Also, be persistent. Being an author can be frustrating. There’s a lot of waiting, and rejection, and self-doubt. Stay strong and push through. Holding your finished book will be worth it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Follow your bliss.”
I translate this roughly to mean, do what you love. If you enjoy doing something, if you care about it, that passion will come through and enrich both your life and the lives of those around you.

What are you reading now?
At the moment, I’m reading Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi, the third book in her Under the Never Sky series.
I’m also reading The Fantasy Fiction Formula by Deborah Chester, because I’m always trying to improve my craft.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Well, I’ve got at least two more books planned for my Magicsmith series. Then I have the outlines for some stand-alone novels I’d like to write. Beyond that, I have a couple YA books in need of revision, and I promised my daughter I would write her a middle-grade adventure.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh, that’s hard. . .
Elantris, Moon Called, A Spell for Chameleon, and Good Omens.

Awesome Author - Nicola Jane

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in Nottingham, England in the UK. I have written so many books but I’ve published five so far with another due any time now. I’m married (15 years this month) and I have two children, both boys, one aged 15 and another aged 11. I also have 4 dogs!!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Splintered Hearts. I have always loved MC romance books. I like the whole forceful dominant male thing that they have going on. I read so many where at the end I was wanting more or thinking of ways in which I’d change it. I decided to write my own and it was one of the first MC romances that I wrote but I only decided to publish it more recently. I like to write about things that happen in real relationships, cheating and fiery arguments. I like to feel that heartache when I’m reading and so I try to add it into my books too.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really, once I get a story build in my head I just write and it flows naturally. I sometimes like to listen to music whilst I write so that it sets the mood, i.e. love songs for sadder parts of the story.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are so many! I love Tillie Cole, her MC books rock. I was also one of the many that fell in love with Christian Grey! EL James was brave enough to put that story out there and look how it worked out for her. Once I’d read that I got onto the likes of Sylvia Day and her Cross fire series. I’m also a huge fan of many smaller authors, i never go on reviews, i always read the synopsis and if i like the sound of it i will download. There are far too many cynics out there that will shoot a book down for the stupidest of things.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on two books and I keep flitting between them. One is a vampire romance, it’s the first time I’ve tried to write anything like this and I’m quite excited about it. The other is another MC romance about a girl that’s running away from her past.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I spend countless hours sharing my book links on social media! Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are my popular go-to sites but I’m starting to look further afield such as AllAuthor and Awesome Gang. I’ve made posters and book trailer video’s that I share continuously but it is very time-consuming.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep at it! Everyone is someone’s favourite Author. Someone will love your work and just stick at it until you find those fans. There will be haters and bad reviews and I can’t lie, they do get to you but you have to learn to take it on the chin and focus on the positives because, for every bad review I’ve had, I’ve had three good ones. Also, take on board the critics, listen to what they say so that the next book is an improvement. You’ll always be improving with each book you write, it’s a constant learning curve. Don’t be disheartened when the first book isn’t a multi million-seller, I’ve heard it takes a few books to get established until you begin to see any real earnings.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you like, don’t listen to that one person that tells you to write less drama or whatever it is they don’t like about your book. It’s your book, in your head and only you know that story if they want to change it then get them to write their own book.

What are you reading now?
I am currently working my way through The Master MC series by B.B Blaque. Just finished Property Of and I’ve downloaded Beautiful Insanity. Totally recommend these books, by the way, this Author’s writing style is amazing.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to keep writing every spare second I get. It’s hard because I also work full time so I have to fit it in with that as well as take care of the kids etc. I’m often writing well into the night. I want to finish the Vampire romance to see how well that does and if people love it maybe that will be another genre for me to try.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh, my that’s so hard. Can’t I just take a Kindle with loads of books?? Lol. I’d take Fifty Shades of Grey, all three because I can read those over and over. It’s a story I completely fell in love with.

Awesome Author - Sandra Knauf

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an author and publisher (Greenwoman Publishing). My published books include the six-volume series Greenwoman (garden writing and art); a YA environmental fantasy novel, Zera and the Green Man; and Fifty Shades of Green, an anthology of sexy gardening stories that I call “the feminist-gardener answer to Fifty Shades of Grey.” My most recent book is a memoir, Please Don’t Piss on the Petunias: Stories About Raising Kids, Crops, and Critters in the City.
I’ve been a columnist for The Denver Post, and my humorous essays have appeared nationally in GreenPrints and MaryJanesFarm. I’ve also been a guest commentator on KRCC’s (NPR’s southern Colorado affiliate station) Western Skies radio show. I live in Colorado with my family, three dogs, a huge organic urban garden, and lots of books.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Please Don’t Piss on the Petunias: Stories About Raising Kids, Crops, and Critters in the City.

The very first nonfiction story I wrote about was called “The Chicken Chronicles.” It was about the time my then very young daughters (ages 4 and 7) and I spent a summer raising exotic breed bantam chickens (from chicks). It was such a great story, with so many highs and lows, laughs and tears, that it won a first-place award at a writing conference contest! That win spurred me on to write other stories about our adventures as a family–and my own adventures as a gardener.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, not really!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I deeply connected with books in the garden writing genre before I became a garden writer–Michael Pollan was probably the first contemporary writer that I fell in love with. I also write fiction, and my favorite authors include Mark Twain, Zora Neale Hurston, Ray Bradbury, Barbara Kingsolver (and I believe all of those have written fiction and nonfiction!).

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a fiction book about a destination wedding in Ireland (an American woman marrying into an Irish family). It’s inspired by the experience we had as a family when my daughter decided to get married in Ireland this year (2019)–there are lots of twist and turns, highs and lows, problem-solving and high drama for the four main characters: the bride; the mother of the bride, the sister/maid of honor; and the groom’s mother!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best, which I am finally learning how to do, is to meet the public in person–I’m doing this through a lot of book events this year.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you love it, stay with it! The world needs good stories and artists devoted to their craft.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The same advice I am sharing: don’t give up if writing is your life’s passion.

What are you reading now?
I just finished reading a book by award-winning Irish garden designer, Mary Reynolds. The title is “The Garden Awakening: Designs To Nurture Our Land & Ourselves.” I came upon this book after my daughter’s wedding in Ireland and connected with it in a very deep way–it’s a how-to book, but also spiritual, and it has a brilliant message of working with nature in garden design. I was astonished to learn my son-in-law met Reynolds as a kid– because she lived, for a while, in their village of about 200 people!

What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing my new book: Diaries of An Irish Wedding (working title!) this year and hopefully finding the time to create rough drafts of my 2nd and 3rd Zera and the Green Man books before too long. I was planning on doing those this summer when the wedding book called to me in a stronger way.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
It depends on how long I would be stranded! If it was for the rest of my life (a terrible thought to have only 3 or 4 books in that situation!), I’d want to bring the complete works of: Mark Twain, Shakespeare, and I would want a plant encyclopedia that would fit the landscape I was stranded in, perhaps the Encyclopedia of Tropical Plants.

Awesome Author - David Kubicek

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and have a B.A. in English from the University of Nebraska. I began writing short stores and articles for magazines and newspapers. I’ve published a novel (IN HUMAN FORM), a short story collection (THE MOANING ROCKS), and a CliffsNotes for Willa Cather’s My Antonia. My current gig is as a writer/photographer for the MIDLANDS BUSINESS JOURNAL.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The idea for IN HUMAN FORM was tumbling around in my mind for many years before I actually completed a first draft. It started out where scientists find an android frozen in the ice in Antarctica because that’s where alien creatures and technology are found, aren’t they? But by the time I finished developing the idea it had become a story about an android named Wendy, built by a marooned alien, who was living in a small town in Nebraska–then after a traumatic experience she forgets she’s an android and believes she’s human.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Coffee. I must have coffee.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ray Bradbury inspired me to become a writer–I wanted to write like him. Other strong influences were Stephen King, John Steinbeck and Rod Serling.

What are you working on now?
EMPATH, a young adult dystopian novel about a future where mutants are illegal, and a mutation is whatever the government decides it is. My MC, Kassidy, is an empath who can feel other people’s emotions and can heal, even pulling people back from the brink of death. She has hidden her condition all of her life because empathy is the most serious form of mutation because it can’t be seen. Needless to say, she is exposed.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I network with other writers and readers online.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t ignore promotion. You should be networking with writers and readers online long before you publish anything.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Write as well as you can and finish what you start,” which is credited to Hemingway.

What are you reading now?
THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY by Irving Stone.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Another novel. I always have a few ideas in development.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
RITE OF PASSAGE by Alexei Panshin, FAHRENHEIT 451 by Ray Bradbury and 11/22/63 by Stephen King. I would love to take J.K. Rowling, but I’m limited to 3 or 4 books, and there are 7 in the HARRY POTTER SERIES (and I couldn’t just take 1!),

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I just finished publishing book number four, as of June 2019. I have a couple more in the works now.

I write mainly about teaching and raising children well that’s what I’ve done professionally for the last 20 years- and I write about ways to live a more connected and authentic life with integrity, joy, and a deep sense of meaning. After blogging about these things for many years, my writing is finally going into my books instead!

I grew up near Santa Cruz, camped in Hawaii as a beach bum, for a bit, and have since been living in Oregon (17 years now!).

I own (and love) a preschool, do healing energywork on the side, and love writing my heart out. I also love nature, live music, traveling, going to the movies, my Nichiren Buddhist practice, gardening, and snuggling my cat and dog!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My newest book is called Wholesome Parenting: Paving a Brighter and Kinder Future with Our Children. After having worked with children and families for 20 years, having known many other preschool teachers in that time, having gotten my degree with an emphasis on child development and education, and talking with so many parents, over the last two decades, about what really helps children thrive, this book really just flowed right out of me. It’s meant for the parents, grandparents, nannies, and teachers who love children and want to do right by them in all the best ways possible!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My biggest habit is to have classical music or soothing guitar music on, playing in my headphones, while I drink hot herbal tea with almond milk, and get lost writing for hours. If I know I don’t have at least several hours to write, a block goes up. Also, my longest writing days were spent with X-Files playing in the background. Sci-fi is my favorite!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been deeply moved by The Dark Tower series, I read and loved my first Agatha Christie novel recently, the Carlos Castañeda series, books by Thich Nhat Hanh, the Mercy Thompson series, and books by bell hooks.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a “sequel” to my book, A Movement of Courage: Connecting More Deeply for a Happier Life -it focuses more on how to create healing in our lives, in this crazy world.

I’m also working on another parenting/teaching book that focuses on the way we interact and communicate with children.

And more poetry.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
https://www.lindsayswanberg.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Let your authentic voice guide you!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“The higher the standard, the greater the reward.” Create your life like you deserve the best. You do.

What are you reading now?
The Buddha in Daily Life by Richard Causton. Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More books!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Book 4 of The Dark Tower series, The Mists of Avalon, The Lotus Sutra (translated). And a kickass survivalist guide!

Awesome Author - Bill Mathis

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was raised as a preacher’s kid, the oldest of 7 kids, in a tiny town in Michigan. I earned degrees in Business, Journalism & Advertising. After college, with no strong interest in business, I fell into a career directing YMCA camps serving Chicago area children and families. I loved working with people from diverse backgrounds and also disabled children. My degrees came in handy with management, promotion & organization. After 23 years with Y camps, I helped open, direct and coordinate a unique foster care agency, SOS Children’s Villages Illinois. I began writing after I retired. My partner told me to find something to do and I took a writing class and was hooked. I won local awards and a statewide one for some of my work. My first novel was published in 2018. Face Your Fears, was inspired by working over the years with disabled persons and deals with a disabled teen, Nate McGuire, coming out, coming of age, and eventually falling in love with an able bodied man. My second novel, The Rooming House Diaries – Life, Love & Secrets, published in July 2019. It uses background material I expanded and further developed based upon the back stories of Nate’s mother & grandmother living in a rooming house. My third novel, The Rooming House Gallery – Connecting the Dots, will publish in mid-2020. It tells the story of the couple who inherit the old rooming house, what they do with it, how the diaries affected their lives and how they go on to establish a community art center in a needy and diverse neighborhood, plus another non-DNA family.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Rooming House Diaries – Life, Love & Secrets was partly inspired by the backstory of a sub-character in my first novel, Face Your Fears, who lived in a rooming house as an unwed pregnant teen. My writers group, Beloit Public Library Stateline Night Writers, suggested I expand her story and develop others based around the rooming house. I did a good deal of research and wrote other diaries, all based upon the socioeconomic changes in Chicago starting with Polish immigrants, their children and several roomers. Chicago is such a melting pot and it was exciting weaving the stories throughout the demographic changes at a personal level in my character’s lives. From immigration, to a love child fathered during a war, to a white teen pregnant by a Mexican boyfriend, to a disturbed child who is a predator yet dies in Vietnam saving lives, to a young man who worked the streets of Tijuana, to the rooming house becoming an underground hospice for undocumented & unwanted AIDS victims, the book covers 125 years of time in an inspiring manner.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Some have said, anything I do is usually unusual. I was diagnosed and have lived with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for over 20 years. I write or edit as my energy level allows. Usually that’s every day, but with no set times or goals for a word count. I prefer it quiet, though I can concentrate in public spaces when traveling. I always take my laptop along and find places and some times to write no matter where I am at. We take an extended cruise each year & I find I can get a lot written on sea days. But (usually) no coffee, no music, a messy desk and piles of books around me in our bedroom are my environment.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Looking back, I realize Ken Follett gave me a love for historical fiction which showed up in my second book. Some current authors who inspired me are: Raymond Luczak (Flannelwood), Carol Rifka Brunt (Tell The Wolves I’m Home), Sarah Waters (The Paying Guests), Ursula Hegi (Stones from the River), Tom Spanbauer (The Man Who Fell In Love With The Moon), Sanderia Faye (Mourners Bench), Joan Didion (The Year of Magic Thinking), Julie Beekman (Two Trees). There are more, many more!

What are you working on now?
I’m working on something far different, more of a psychological mystery, though the theme is still family. Tentatively titled, Revenge is Necessary, a successful, stoic, calm corn/soybean farmer tells his 17-year old son that he’s not the kids father, orders him to leave while pointing a double-barrel shotgun at him, fires at him, then turns the gun on his wife to kill her. They struggle for the gun, it discharges seriously wounding him in his lower leg. In the aftermath, long buried secrets emerge that not only involve the immediate family, but also the farming community as the double lives of the farmer and his assistant are discovered. The why is gradually answered as the childhoods of the the farmer and his assistance are revealed.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve mostly used Facebook. My writing coach, Kathie Giorgio https://www.allwritersworkshop.com) has been instrumental in getting me to speak at a regional book festival. I’m hoping to do more with Twitter and Instagram. I’m holding several author/book events for the release of my latest book. Word of Mouth is helpful. I spent the money and received a wonderful review from Kirkus, which maybe opening some doors.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Write. Write. Read. Read. Read. Find a writing group to get involved in. Giving and receiving feedback is extremely helpful. A critique group is even better. Get other people to read your work, at least some of them shouldn’t be your proud mother or friends. You need to receive constructive criticism. I had to learn to be less defensive and have learned so much more and been helped so much.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep on Keeping On… Writing is not a race, it’s a slog through the swamps, the flatlands, the mountains and the valleys. Don’t give up.

What are you reading now?
I always have several books going. Right now it’s: Hearing Voices by Teresa Roberts; Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; Nurses on the Inside by Ellen Matzer & Valery Hughes; Burning Bright by Nick Petrie.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Keeping on with my psychological mystery and then back to a draft I set aside. I need to decide whether to trim it or expand it into two books.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Sherlock Holmes collection, I just started reading him and am enthralled. I’d take my Kindle – loaded – and a solar charger. 3 or 4 books just ain’t enough!

Awesome Author - RJ Hervey

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been writing professionally for about 10 years. Most of that time I was publishing short stories or doing contract work copywriting for companies online, which was great experience, if not all that exciting. Thankfully, I got the opportunity to write for myself full-time this last year, and I’m excited that my debut novel, Winter’s Child, released last month!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Winter’s Child is an adult historical fiction novel set in 15th century Florence. I’ve always been fascinated with the Italian Renaissance, and I think it was inevitable that I would eventually find myself writing in that setting. That said, I don’t think I could point to any one specific inspiration that inspired Winter’s Child; the story has evolved so much since its conception that it’s unrecognizable from my initial premise.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do, and they change constantly. I have a post-it note that I keep near my computer that just reads, “Whatever works,” and I live and write by that adage. If I’m working best at my computer, great. If I’m working best at a coffee shop, great. I’ve had times where I found myself working best on airplanes, or outside, or longhand. I just do whatever works until it doesn’t work anymore, then I find something else that does.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Wow, that’s a short question that begs a long answer. I grew up reading fantasy and science-fiction, then fell in love with classical literature in college, so I think my writing is influenced by a really wide range of genres and authors.

I find a lot of inspiration from Robert Jordan, whose characters grew and evolved more organically than any I’ve seen since. Neil Gaiman, to name another fantastic author, has definitely had an impact on my style; I just can’t get enough of his narrative voice. On that note, I think, surprisingly enough, that I would include Bill Watterson, the author of the Calvin & Hobbes comics, on this list as well. Something about the way he develops a story — the timing and fluidity — is truly inspiring.

What are you working on now?
Not to give away any spoilers, but I’m well into a young adult speculative fiction novel with some really exciting settings. It hosts a cast of six high-school characters, and each chapter is framed as a daydream from the perspective of a different student. In the end, I’m hoping it highlights how perception can influence reality.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m pretty new to the advertising game, so I don’t really have a great answer for you. I’ve built a website (RJHervey.com), engaged with a wide range of online reading groups, submitted Winter’s Child to popular review blogs, and I’m preparing to dive into the world of advertising through Facebook and Amazon.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every day, read as much as possible, and do whatever works for you. Every writer is different, so you’ll need to find a line between accepting feedback from your peers and sticking to your guns on the things you care about.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do whatever works. I feel like I’m really beating a dead horse by now, but seriously, it’s good advice.

What are you reading now?
Last month I was digging into cosmology books (which is NOT the same as cosmetology). This month I’m on a Neil Gaiman kick, probably in response to watching the new Good Omens series with David Tennant (swoon). Hopefully I’ll find something else exciting to read next month!

What’s next for you as a writer?
That’s a good question. I’m mostly finished with a draft of my next manuscript, but I’m still deciding whether I want to self-publish or try the traditional route. There are so many pros and cons to each!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Geez, loaded question. I want to say that I’d bring a bunch of survival books. Since that’s a boring answer though, I’ll instead say The Collected Works of John Milton, Biocentrism by Robert Lanza, The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom, and…probably a copy of my own book. You know, just to make me feel good.

Awesome Author - Mary Gant Bell

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I began writing by publishing genealogy books. These were entirely different than writing fiction. The characters are already defined for you when you write genealogy books! After writing eight family history books (and several revisions to those) I decided to try fiction. As an avid reader, I found it increasingly difficult to find books that were thought-provoking and yet entertaining as well. So many new fiction on the market today speak to specific causes, ailments, struggles, etc. But what about the struggles of average, ordinary people? I struggled to find characters that I could relate to personally. So I wrote my own! My first work of fiction started as a single book but quickly evolved into a five-book series. In the last year, I’ve written seven fiction books. Five of them are Christian romance. The other two are more difficult to categorize. After you read them, let me know which category you would select for them!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is entitled “Tell me It Was Just A Dream.” It was inspired by a dream I had years ago. This dream was extremely vivid and details. It has begged me to write it for several years. So I did.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so, but then it’s hard to tell! I usually write alone in my office without anyone watching to witness any weird habits I might have developed.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
People I meet influence me more than other authors. I enjoy taking unusual people and making their quirks come to life in a loveable fashion. Readers have told me that I write in a way that forces the reader to see a person or situation from another angle, make you see a side of things from another perspective. Exposing my readers to those other perspective influences me the most.

What are you working on now?
At the moment, I’m working on another fiction book. The other book rattling around in my brain describes everything I learned about God by watching football. I might work on them both at the same time since they are two different types of books.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I promote my books through my own website – https://marygantbell.com/

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors is – just do it! Don’t worry about perfection at the beginning. You’ll never finish a book if you never start one. Dedicate a certain number of hours each day/week/month to writing and just plain do it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Live your life as though you are alive. Be actively involved in your own life. And find the joy in all things.

What are you reading now?
Currently, I am reading Ken Follet’s lesser-known shorter novels.

What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next for me as a writer? Ask me again next year!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I could only take 3-4 books, my first choice would be the Bible. After that, it would be difficult to decide. I would probably go with historical fiction.

Awesome Author - Anicia S. Eriksson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written one published book in Swedish, that same book that is now translated (by myself) into English. I have also writte. two more books, not published yet.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The English title of my latest book is “Not your shame – A journey in recovering from mental illness”. There was not one specific thing that inspired me to write it, it was more of a must – in order to survive and not drown in my own demons, I had to write. I had to pour my heart and soul out on paper, and eventually it turned into a book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I absolutely have to have a cup of coffee when I’m writing, not necessarily for the kick – if anything, caffeine makes me tired. I guess I feel more productive if I’m having a cup of coffee while writing, don’t ask me why because I have no idea haha.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Every book I read influence me in some way, so I can’t name any books in specific – I bring something with me from every book I read. Same with authors, there are so many that influence me. If I have to name two, they are Elina Sundström (Swedish author), Maria Wälsäter (also Swedish author), amongst others.

What are you working on now?
I just finished writing my first ever novel, and I’m now working on novel number two which will be part two from the first one. I’m also, casually, working on another self biography, one that will go deeper within me than I’ve ever reached before.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For me, it has to be Instagram. My main promotion happens there, and that is also where I get the most interaction from readers and other authors.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write. Don’t Think about whether the end result will be good enough for others to read, just write! There is always time for editing later on, and the most important thing is that YOU like and enjoy what you are writing. That will show in your writing. The most important thing to start writing is to just start, that is also the hardest part, but you will notice that the more you write – the more you will write. It works like a loop, and step one is to just start. To not give a crap about if it’s good or not. Just do you!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That I shoudn’t worry so much about what others might think about my work, and care more about what I think about my work.

What are you reading now?
I’m Reading too many books at once right now, one of them is “Avien” by Maria Wälsäter. I’m a slow reader right now but I hope to finish it soon, since I love it so far.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep Writing, and keep loving it. To get my next book published (it’s well on it’s way).

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would probably forget to bring books and only bring sweets, because I’m (not) smart like that.

Awesome Author - S.E. Foster

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an artist and have currently published 3 Journals with Coloring Pages.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent Coloring Journal is titled Mindful Meditations:30 Day Journal and Coloring Book. I felt that I was missing a crucial audience by only offering Prayer Journals with Coloring Pages so for my 3rd book instead of bible verses to go along with each coloring page I chose 1 or 2 questions to help the reader delve into themselves and find what inspires them.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Since I am an illustrator I often draw my pages on my iPad while watching the hallmark channel.

What are you working on now?
Since my 3rd book officially launched on 8/2/19 National Coloring Book Day I am currently spending most of my time promoting this book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For me local vendor shows and book signings have been most successful at promoting my books. I was also interviewed on a local tv show after the release of my second book and that helped a great deal with getting the word out about my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t let fear hold you back. Take the leap.

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading a cozy mystery (one of my favorite genres)

What’s next for you as a writer?
As with my first 3 books, only God knows what is next.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Ideally I would take my kindle loaded with as many books as possible and a solar charger.
In paperback I would have to say
Gone with the wind
The Twilight Series

Awesome Author - R.J. Hillary

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. I can’t recall a time when I didn’t want to be a writer, and I’ve always had something in the works. It seems to be a genetic thing – at least two of my kids are aspiring writers too!
I live in South Yorkshire, England, with my family, five of whom are my beautiful children. When I’m not writing or some related activity (researching, editing etc), I’m usually playing video games. That’s one hobby all my kids have definitely inherited from me!
So far, under this name, I have published one short story and one novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest published novel is ‘When the Lights Go Down’.
I can’t remember what inspired it, but I started writing it right before the #MeToo scandal broke in 2017. At the time, the voice in my head for Peter Newton (the love interest), was Kevin Spacey. Naturally, after the allegations against him started making major headlines, it left me feeling uneasy that he was the head-canon voice of my romantic hero, and I put off writing the rest of the novel.
Cut to two years later, and I dusted off my old files and gave it a re-write with a new head-canon voice. FYI, if you want to know what Peter sounds like in my head, think Nathan Drake from the Uncharted games.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write anywhere, at any time. I’ve stopped for a couple of minutes in the middle of a busy supermarket to dash off a couple of paragraphs. I even sat in the blistering heat at my son’s school sports day and wrote about 800 words. Not while he was competing; that would be mean to my little lad. I wrote while he sat looking bored with his little team.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’d say, without a doubt, the author who has influenced me most is Stephen King. Not in a stylistic or genre way, but just his books. He’s the author I’ve read the most, and some of his stories I go back to endlessly. If you ever get a chance to read ‘Nightmares and Dreamscapes’, check out the story ‘Sorry, Right Number’. I wish I could come up with ideas half as good as that.
Roald Dahl is another writer I admired as a kid. Specifically, I loved ‘Danny the Champion of the World’. It’s such a beautiful story, funny when it needs to be, but heartbreaking in other parts.
And I would be remiss if I were not to include Lewis Caroll in my list, partly because ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is one of the maddest, most enjoyable pieces of children’s literature of all time, but because he and I went to the same school. Not at the same time though, obviously.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a novel called ‘Take Two’. It’s about an American man called Chris Lovett, who for spoiler-based reasons moves to the UK with his two daughters.
He slowly and reluctantly falls in love again, which causes problems for everybody involved, especially when the woman he wants is not the woman who wants him.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading ‘Halo: Hunters in the Dark’ by Peter David, mostly because I’ve been playing a lot of Halo Wars lately.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a lot of story ideas written in a book somewhere, so once I remember where I put it, I’m not going to be short of projects for a while.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Do I have to take only three or four books? Can’t I take my Kindle and a solar-powered charger? No? Then I’d take ‘Danny the Champion of the World’ by Roald Dahl, ‘Never Walk Alone’ by Gareth Owen, ‘The Historian’ by Elizabeth Kostova and ‘The Pirate’s Daughter’ by Margaret Cezair-Thompson.

I am a computer scientist turned author. To date, I have written four books.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Jane Austen was my inspiration for the book. It is something of an homage to her. All the gay romances I had seen appeared to be overly sexualized. I was more interested in the actual romance. So, I set it in the 18th century but gave it a tie-in to present day.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write everything by hand. My writing is not inspired unless I am using a pen and paper. Something about the flow of handwriting brings out my creativity that punching a keyboard never could.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Jane Austen, Stephen King, Issac Asimov

What are you working on now?
A screenplay about the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) in WWII. It’s a story about sisterhood and the meaning of true strength.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Goodreads.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you have writer’s block, write your story as a screenplay first. Then use that as a template for the larger narrative. It really helped me with mine.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Allow yourself to have a lousy first draft.

What are you reading now?
Maurice by E.M. Forster

What’s next for you as a writer?
Turning my horror books into a web series

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Dune, Sherlock Holmes, The Hobbit, The Stand

Awesome Author - Clara C. Johnson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have most recently written a poetry collection, but I have written short stories and a few books in the epic young adult fantasy genre.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name is “One Can Heal.” What inspired me to write it was a lot of personal experiences throughout my life. I wanted a way to connect with other people who may have experienced similar things whether good or bad. I feel it is important to reach out and connect with others who have gone through a lot as a way to support them. It’s a crazy world out there and we need to help one another as best we can.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I still write with a paper and pen for a lot of my work. I find it better than typing most days to get my thoughts out.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Authors who have inspired me most recently are: Amanda Lovelace, Susan Dennard, and Sarah J. Maas.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I am working on another poetry collection, a short stories collection, and two novels. All in varying stages at this moment in time.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook has become my number one for the most part as well as a lot of “word of mouth.” I also spend a lot of time researching other methods that I am still investigating.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
“All good things come in time” is one of the best sayings out there. You can’t write and publish one book and expect it to be a big NYT Best Seller. You have to grow your brand, connect with your readers, and never stop learning. Take time to polish your style, research, connect with other authors, and remember that only you can tell your story. You are in control, never forget that.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Write without fear” to quote a dear friend of mine Chad. He is a horror writer who believes that no matter what, you have to write without worrying whether or not people will hate your work.

What are you reading now?
I have a massive to-be-read list, but to name a few they are: “No Man Can Tame” by Miranda Honfleur, “Oath Taker” by Audrey Grey, “A Clash of Kings” by George R.R. Martin, and “Bloodwitch” by Susan Dennard.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to release at least one more book this year and begin working on my next big epic fantasy series.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Tough one. I’d have to say “A Court of Mist and Fury” by Sarah J. Mass, “Defy” by Sara B. Larson, “Kiss of Deception” by Mary E. Pearson and “Truthwitch” by Susan Dennard.

Awesome Author - Clint Lacy

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a lifelong resident of Southeast Missouri. Raised in the agricultural lowlands, I moved to Bollinger County, Missouri in 2000 and have been here ever since. I have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines and consider myself a lover of history and a seeker of the truth. In 2015 I released “Blood in the Ozarks: Union War Crimes Against Southern Sympathizers and Civilians in Occupied Missouri”. In 2019 I released a Second Edition of Blood in the Ozarks in both paperback and Kindle format which contains over 100 additional pages of information and photographs including select excerpts from “The Slave Narratives” and newspaper clippings which describe “Life Under Occupation as Told by the Press”. 2019 also saw the release of my book “A Beginner’s Guide to False Flags: the Deep State Agenda Behind America’s Biggest Events.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is entitled “Blood in the Ozarks: Second Edition” it was inspired by my constant search for seeking the truth.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if it would be considered unusual but I do my best writing at night when everything is quiet and everyone is asleep. There is a certain mental clarity that comes with my late night writing habits.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
“Shiloh: A Novel” by the great historian and author Shelby Foote, “Quantrill of Missouri by Paul Petersen and “Enemy Women” by Paulette Jiles.

What are you working on now?
I am currently formatting my paperback release “A Beginner’s Guide to False Flags” to release as a Kindle e-book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I would have to say the best method I have found is joining various social media groups that have the same interest as the subject matter I am promoting.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes. Deciding to write a book can be overwhelming. It doesn’t have to be. The best way to start a book is by sitting down and writing the first paragraph.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you love your job you will never work another day in your life.

What are you reading now?
“Jesse James Secret” by Ron Pastore.

What’s next for you as a writer?
A project that details the extent of corruption in the State of Oklahoma.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Enemy Women” , “Quantrill of Missouri” and the Bible.

Awesome Author - Heidi Bryant

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a highly creative and energetic person. I’ve worked in financial services throughout my career in marketing and wanted to make a change. Quite a drastic one! I started writing in 2018 and so far have published 5 books. 3 for children under the Catnap Stories brand and one for adults in two different languages about the Island of Ibiza.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called – The Adventures of Vince the Cat – Vince Discovers the Wonder of Seville. Having written my first book about Paris, which includes French in the story and following on from feedback from my customers. I decided to pick an amazing Spanish City to visit, discover and write about and of course! Include Spanish in the story.

I have always loved travelling and learning new languages and wanted to share my passions in my books to inspire children.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I write, my cats are always with me in my office. One of them jumps up at the screen and it looks like she is proof-reading it for me and the other basically sleeps with his head resting on my keyboard and very often snores or purrs very loudly. The purring is actually quite calming and enables me to think more clearly.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The authors that I love are Alexandre Dumas & Shakespeare. As a child I loved Roald Dahl as most children did.

What are you working on now?
Now, I’m planning my next book and deciding which country, language combinations to work on. There are so many amazing places in the world – so it’s a tricky decision.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, I have spent a lot of time at events where I get to talk about my books to parents and children – this works really well and you can get real-time feedback which helps with the next books that I write. Rakuten Kobo has been relatively good so far in so far as getting my books distributed globally.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you’re an indy author, be prepared for a lot of hard work and facing lots of closed doors. But if you’re really passionate about your story then don’t give up.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
When one door closes, another one opens.

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading the ‘Le Comte de Montecristo’

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d really like to work with people from all over the world who can help me incorporate their language into my new stories to really build the brand and introduce more places and languages to children.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
How to survive on a desert island
How to build a boat
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Awesome Author - Gina Ruiz

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 26 years old and happily married with one cat. I am a survivor of abuse and depression and I write as a form of therapy for myself as well as to bring awareness to the emotions and situations I’ve been through in hopes that someone will read my poetry and see themselves on the pages. I have written two books so far, Fragile Blooms and Rebuilt from the Ashes.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Fragile Blooms is my latest book. It is inspired by my current view on life as well as the tail end of my deep depression. I tried to focus on more positive outlooks and words of comfort rather than the darker and more raw poetry I wrote for Rebuilt from the Ashes.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write out 100 poems and then I rewrite or get rid of about three-fourths of them. My writing takes me a long time and I am very picky about how everything sounds. Often my husband has to stop me and tell me to just leave everything as it is and take a break.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve found inspiration in Beau Taplin, R.H. Sin, my grandmother, and even Roald Dahl at an early age. I’ve always loved reading and writing but never felt like I was good enough to pursue it.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on another book with the focus of letting the words flow and seeing what happens. There are no ideas set in stone as of yet so I’m very early in the process.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I struggle with this. At first I was too afraid to really promote my books so I did nothing beyond a casual Facebook post for friends and family. I am currently working on using Instagram and some additional marketing resources to try and bring some attention to Fragile Blooms and see how that goes.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write. It is so frightening and overwhelming to think of people you know reading your intimate work. Or even strangers judging you based on the words you put down. But it is so worth it to feel accomplished and working towards your dreams. I have no doubt that anything I write now, I will be unhappy with later. But that is growth and shows progress. Don’t be afraid of the process and just make it happen.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Time passes with or without you. Take your chances and make your moves so you can look back and thank yourself instead of looking back and regretting what could have been.

What are you reading now?
Currently I’m reading various poetry books as well as revisiting the Harry Potter series.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Really working on my craft. I am an amateur at best and I am aware there are flaws and issues that being self published bring. I don’t have a fancy editor or agent, just myself and my husband. I want to really work on improving and perhaps move into a longer and more fleshed out book.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Ishmael, Whiskey Words & a Shovel, and Bloom.

Awesome Author - Doug Ross

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is my first book as a writer in telling a story about actual events I’ve experienced. In the past, I have written hundreds of television scripts for documentaries and news programs. Also, I have written fictional feature films which I am presently developing into productions.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Paradigm Shift: Understanding Everything is Connected is the culmination of years of life experiences which I have witnessed many unique events such as the Kennedy assassination, Beatles tour, war protests, Golden era movie stars, astronauts, celebrities, politicians, Middle East wars, rapid China growth, Presidents and paupers alike.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing is constantly being interrupted by my family in some daily crisis that only I can fix. It’s like writing news copy over the phone ringing, shouts, and chaos but I can focus to complete a few paragraphs before the next crisis.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
As a kid, I was impressed by Jules Verne novels but quickly moved onto science magazines like National Geographic, Scientific American, and Nature but I loved Mad and Playboy too. I know I was a weird kid, no comic books. As a teen, my brother and I read Tolkien, Asimov, and Abby Hoffman. Generally, I read biographies of influential people like Kennedy, MacArthur, King, Michaelangelo, Edison, Tesla, etc. As an adult, I continue to read biographies, science, non-fiction and history books.

What are you working on now?
I have completed a 10-episode limited series for cable-TV on Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the Revolution of 1911 in China. We have contacts with Shanghai and Beijing production companies but all development stopped when little trumpt tantrums started a trade tariff war. I can wait until he is in jail and will resume the TV series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am just learning my way around the book world which I am new to but I must say it is similar to promoting a film in that you must target your audience, use social media, and offer a fun read for cheap.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The same advice I gave my students at Henan University, first write about what you know and have experienced. The content will come easier while you are learning composition, grammar, and chaptered storytelling.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Down it and get from around it.” This peppy quote came from an old Kansas farmer I met who in his limited vocabulary I believe he means: Meet all your challenges head-on. Never procrastinate. Learn new skills to finish the task. Move on to the next job, many more are coming. That is what life is all about, isn’t it? A series of challenges, decisions, actions and on to the next.

What are you reading now?
Gordon Hancock’s Before America.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll be writing a series of sales pitches targeting product investors for my feature film. I wrote the script about a series of paranormal events and afterlife contacts that took place as my entire family began dying.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Boy Scout manual, Prepper’s Long-Term Survival Guide: Food, Shelter, Security, Off-the-Grid Power and More Life-Saving Strategies for Self-Sufficient Living, Wild Food Plants of the South Pacific and Southeast Asia and for toilet paper, Art of the Deal.

Awesome Author - Eric Mosher

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a New Jersey based writer and VP of Marketing. I studied journalism and worked in TV news for a time but it didn’t stick and marketing allowed me to be more creative and I’ve been doing that ever since. I have published seven novels previously–Lost at Comic Con, The Secret Life of Astrogirl, The Dead Next Door, The Madman of Lake Mongawonga, I Was a Teenage Sex Robot, Cheerleaders of the Blind Dead and She-Wolf Take a Bow. The last five are part of my ongoing Friday Night Frights series, of which The Dead Next Door was a top 100 seller in the Young Adult Horror category on the Kindle.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is She-Wolf, Take a Bow and it is inspired in part by movies like An American Werewolf in London, Ginger Snaps and The Wolfman.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure it’s that unusual but I like to write to music so I often throw on a record to set the mood and then begin. Usually I pick a score that reflects what I’m working on.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Richard Matheson and Stephen King were my favorites growing up, though I think Matheson’s influence won out overall. He just has this way of taking something simple and weaving a great tale from it and that’s what I strive for.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the second Astrogirl novel, tentatively titled Fearsome Forces.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve had lots of luck with ads on Amazon for the Kindle version of the books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing, no matter how hard it may seem to finish the book. You’ll get there as long as you keep on writing. Taking part in NaNoWriMo helped me a lot as it showed me I could finish a book and helped build confidence in my ability.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t be afraid to make your characters miserable. Half of the fun is seeing them succeed after being knocked down again and again.

What are you reading now?
True Indie, by Don Coscarelli.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After finishing Fearsome Forces, I have a fantasy novel and a regular fiction novel planned, as well as the next two installments of the Friday Night Frights series. So I’m keeping busy.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny, and Salem’s Lot by Stephen King.
