Awesome Author - Ann Rhodes

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Ann Rhodes and I started writing at the age of 8 years old. It was the encouragement of my mother and my 6th grade language arts teacher to really discover my gift of writing poetry. From that point, I began writing for the school newspaper, local newspapers, and was even published by Channel 2 Action News in a Stop the Violence School in Kit in middle schools throughout the state of Georgia. In 2016, my first book was published “From the Beginning until Now”. This is a poetry book that contains poems that reflect on life, spirituality, prayer, and inspiration from various people. I have written 2 books.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
In 2019, I published “A Sight to Behold”. This book is a continuation of my first book “From the Beginning until Now” that includes poems about everlasting life, dealing with relationships, and people who have been a true inspiration. This book was inspired by my mother and many others who enjoyed my first book.

Awesome Author - Ophelia Kee

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been seriously writing the Book Series Draoithe for a couple of years. The first six are published. Book seven should be out in by the end of July. A Pack Forms is the first book. But be warned when you start, you won’t want to quit. Book eight is nearly finished, so when you pick up the first book and begin the journey, you don’t have to stop at the end of Book One. But Ophelia Kee herself is a bit of an enigma, and I like it that way. It is not really about me. It’s about the story.
Not who everyone thinks she is.
The product of someone’s imagination.
The end result of a lifetime wishing to get out.
Do not buy the lie.
If you live in fear, you give up freedom.
Taking the risk and making the leap.
Too much of anything is a bad thing.
Innuendo floating on the mist that rises above the water.
Walk away and leave it all behind.
Telling the story that haunts a fantasy.
Catching a dream.
She does not exist.
Ophelia Kee

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Book Seven is Draoithe: The Dark Gift. It’s about a woman who is abducted, abused and turned into a broken vampire. But when the experiment fails, she gets thrown away only to be rescued by an immortal dragon shifter who has his own issues he has to overcome in order to be able to save her. It’s adult only. No Cheating. Happily Ever After sort of. It was inspired by a man who truly loved the party. He’s handsome and debonair. She’s sexy but has no idea.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
The story just comes to me and flows out onto the page. I write until I finish it all then I put the work to the side before I go back to it. Then I work on it till it reads the way I see the story in my mind. I don’t think that other authors write like that, but it works for me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
JRR Tolkien, Robert Jordan, LJ Shen, Megan March. My apologies if I have misspelled names. But I read constantly. These four just popped into my head first. I love a good story more than I like a good drink. It is the best escape.

What are you working on now?
I’m still finishing work on several future Draoithe books. When a good scene comes to me, I write it down and keep writing until that scene integrates itself in the series. I often realize that I am writing multiple different books at the same time, but that’s okay because the story is enriched that way. Each book is interconnected to the other books as all the characters revolve around one another in their quest to build Draoithe. Characters from previous books and future books often make cameo appearances. It tends to feel more like a saga than a series at times as many of the characters enlighten the reader with previously unknown information about other characters as the plot moves forward in the series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far I have only really done promotion through Kindle. I am not lucky enough to be able to quit the day job, yet. But maybe.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write! Don’t put the story off. Write it. Someone wants to read it. So just write it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t take advice from your broke a** friends on how to get rich. Go study a rich person and copy what they do.

What are you reading now?
I’m itching to pick up LJ Shen’s Reckless, but I have to move so… soon.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing the series. I want to tell Draoithe’s story. Then maybe a story about a cemetery. It’s only partially baked though. That might not workout. We will see what idea comes to me next, but I hope to be in a new location soon.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Can I count that as one? The Sinners of Saint series. Felicity Heaton’s works (Any of them, All of them) That’s a trick question right? Only getting to choose three or four is like nearly as bad as developing amnesia and not being able to remember any of the good stories. How long will I be on this Island anyway? 3 or 4 books is like medieval torture. Can I write my own while I’m there with no distractions?

Awesome Author - Benjamin Knoll

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
The seed of inspiration had been growing very young inside of me. As soon as I could play with toys I was creating stories with them. Then, at age eight, I began to write stories for school and that is when I began writing stories for leisure. I have been discovering my style and growing in my structure ‘s format ever since. I was definitely that boy who was running off with his dog to run under a tree on a long summer’s afternoon.
I have always been intrigued by the mysteries of science as well and this often blanketed my intrigue into fictitious worlds. It is this thirst for the unknown that drives my writing, that makes me want to send the reader off to my many worlds to find unique, entrancing things.
I have written two published books with three more to come throughout the year.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Annihilation’s Resounding Anthem. This is Vol. 2 in the Distributed Fate series. By book two I have introduced many of the essential characters, though not all. At the end of the last story we had only been shown a glimpse of the varied universes and had just met our protagonist and antagonist. In our second book we start getting to know our characters and get a taste for the journey that they are on. The title for the book speaks of how the choices made in this book lead to the end all universes now fear.
This book, as I mentioned, really is about getting to know the characters that we will follow through this four book journey. The inspiration for Vol. 2 is an extension of Vol. 1 where we delved into a shared universe displayed through short stories. There is more variety in book two and we start showing that the main storyline will begin to show up more and more as we go along.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When it comes to planning out my stories I find that is where I am most unusual. I leave a certain degree up to the inspiration of the moment while the rest I plan down to exquisite detail. I find myself looking at each individual book as a pattern that needs to be maintained. When I aim to keep a particular rhythm going with a specified direction I find that I am keeping the correct shape of my pattern. So long as I keep to the pattern that feels right then I am pleased with how my work turns out. If I defer from the pattern it can get messy.
At the same time, I contradict this by allowing improvisation, but once again in specific places. The story needs to achieve certain aspects, the characters have to be somewhere by the end of this journey, but I can play with how they get there. It really is all about how each individual writer works to produce their own best work.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I find there was a particular series that inspired me and it was less about the content of that series and more the style in which it was told. The series the Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander was a wonderful fantasy series for young adults. As a story, it had lovable characters with honor who fought the forces of darkness; what more could any reader want? What specifically inspired me here we less the story and more the excellent manner in which it was written. I remember how impressed I was that not a single page ever went by in that entire series of books where there was not something going on. Everything was described, but the author did not linger on endless detail and regardless of the pacing of the scene it was always interesting and entertaining.
To me, when a story can entertain you to such a degree that you do not even notice periods of lull or poorer storytelling, you know that it is quality writing. With my novels I aim to do the exact same. I want to keep every page interesting with a good rhythm. Short stories keep the flavor fresh and I aim to keep the stories providing an endless source of enjoyment, humor, and intrigue.

What are you working on now?
I am working on Vol. 3 of the Distributed Fate series at the moment. By the third book, the story has really developed and we get to see how crazy our story starts to really get. In Vol. 3, I get to showcase some of the coolest parts of this shared universe. I keep the variety coming, but I really show the reader more a sense of how everything is connected and what this universe can be capable of. No spoilers, but it is really getting good!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have been writing since I was a child, but marketing is a game that I am new to. As far as I can tell the best methods are giveaways and accessing your local market. If the population is decently sized in your area then you have a large area to market to in person. Remember your niches!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
First rule to any new experience; be humble. Humility is an efficient tool and it needs to be applied to writing like anything else. Assume that you will be in a fluctuating learning journey for a long time. Do your research for as long as you need to and get advice from those with experience wherever you can. They’ve already done it, you might as well listen and see what they have to say about how to avoid a lot of pitfalls along the way.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
This applies to the field of marketing and publishing as well as even many courses in life; it is important to use your heart to guide your yearning and your head to ensure you actually get there. It always made perfect sense to me. Remember always what you want, but be realistic and hard working to get there.

What are you reading now?
At the moment I am in the midst of Robert J. Lawyer’s Quantum Night. I cannot say it’s his best work, but it’s intriguing and I do love the intellectual aspect of all his works. I love a book with a twist.

What’s next for you as a writer?
This is the beginning of my journey as a published author and this year I will be publishing four books alone. Look out for Vol. 3, and 4 for the crazy, wondrous things to come for this new shared universe!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Obviously anything I choose needs to have an ability to be reread many times over. For starters, I would choose the Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien as this is one of the most masterfully crafted books of all time. The writing is dense, yet beautiful and elegant. I find it was here that Tolkien truly showed his skill as a writer. There is nearly no writing I could imagine being as simply poetic as the Silmarillion.
Next, I would choose Calculating God by Robert J. Sawyer. This was easily my favorite of his works, but he always impresses with his concepts regardless of which book. What I like in particular about this one was that it brought together many elements of fiction that I in particular enjoy; that being aliens, understanding the nature of our universe and even God. His concepts are always very big, but what I love most about his work is that he is also a scientist and so even outlandish ideas are grounded with relatable concepts and theories. It is easy to use big ideas, but I find he writes these ideas very intelligently and this is a rare find on the market.
Lastly, I might have to go with Red Rabbit by Tom Clancy. While I have not read Clancy in years, I find this is example of spy novel writing at its finest. It was written within the last twenty years, but it’s a prequel with his famous Jack Ryan character. Mostly, I enjoy how two sides are displayed as the same merely with cultural differences and what exactly the inner workings of spy agencies in the 1980s were like. Overall, on the backdrop of an attempted assassination of the pope, this book does well to keep a steady pace and make you wonder how things will actually work out.

Awesome Author - Marlundra Harris

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a stay at home mother to two children. I’ve been married for fourteen years, and have always enjoyed writing and reading mysteries, fantasy and sci fi novels. “Draw Closer To Him” is the first novel I’ve written, and I am so excited about its completion.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Draw Closer To Him” was inspired by my fascination with the supernatural and my love for Jesus. I wanted to incorporate my faith with a storyline that was filled with mystery and realism. I wanted my book to be enjoyed not only by fellow Christians, but all individuals. I also hope this book will draw those who don’t know Jesus closer to Him.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t say I have any unusual writing habits. I embrace procrastination or “writer’s block” because I feel it allows me the opportunity to step back and get a fresh look at where I want to take the story. I also depend heavily on the Holy Spirit and what He directs me to write.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Some of my most influential authors are Dean Koontz, Mary Higgins Clark, Stephen King, Jerry Jenkins (Left Behind Series), and William P. Young (The Shack).

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on an untitled fiction surrounding the Native American culture, and because I am obsessed with the supernatural, there will definitely be an element of the supernatural incorporated into it.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m currently depending heavily on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) to promote my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors would be to edit, edit and edit some more. When completing my book, I read the editing process is actually more important than the writing process itself, and I have definitely found this to be true. If you are not comfortable editing yourself, find a professional editing service. I also find it helpful to have several “test” individuals read your manuscript prior to publishing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Once again, the best advice I’ve ever heard was to edit, edit, edit.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading “Magic Sleeps” by Chere Smith.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to continue to write fiction which causes the readers to gain a realistic perspective on life. I also plan to continue with my blog (hopefully post more).

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The bible, a self-help book advising how to survive on an island, The Shack by William Young, and Frankenstein by Dean Koontz.

Awesome Author - Adele Adams

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As a child, I loved books. Escaping into magical worlds far from reality was my favorite pastime. That didn’t change when I grew up. Books and the characters in them have been some of my best friends for as long as I can remember. And I’ve been writing stories since I was nine years old. But I didn’t publish any of them until recently.

I self-published three books simultaneously this year. “Accident Fate?” was the first full-length novel I wrote. Soon after I finished it, I started working on “Anywhere But Here” and “After The Happily”. They’re all complete stand-alone stories but they share a theme: finding out what you want in life and working up the courage to try and make it happen. Oh, and there’s romance too of course.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Anywhere But Here” is the third book in the Starting Over series. Millie Morgan, the main character, is stuck in a rut and she can’t see a way out. She has lost sight of who she is and what she wants. I’ve been there. That’s why I wrote the story. And writing it helped me get out of my own rut. It reminded me that nothing is ever set in stone. As I sorted out Millie’s fictional problems on the page, I began sorting out my own. When I gave Millie the courage to chase her dreams, I rediscovered my own confidence. I hope reading “After The Happily” will give the reader hope that they too can turn their lives around.

Of course, there is also intrigue and romance in the book. Millie is summoned by the mysterious Sharp Agency and she has no idea what they could possibly want with her. She then meets a charming Irishman who makes her feel alive again. But can she work up the courage to take another chance on love? I’d be thrilled if you read the book and find out!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know how unusual it is but I write in bed, wearing my most comfortable pajamas, with the laptop parked on a pillow in front of me. Typically, I write two hours per day. On good days, I get a lot of writing done during those two hours. On bad days, I manage merely a few paragraphs. Bad (writing) days happen. The most important thing is to start over the next day and give it my best shot again.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh, it’s a long list! I’ll just name the first few… Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Tanamera by Noel Barber, Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes, and The Pelican Brief by John Grisham.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m working on a story about a divorce lawyer who doesn’t believe in love but finds herself falling in love despite her best efforts not to.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve just started promoting my books so, at this point, I don’t know. Can I get back to you in a couple of months? I’ll be happy to give you an update on my findings.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up! Learn the art of patience, don’t lose your sense of humor, and develop thick skin. Rejections from agents and publishers and criticism from fellow writers can be brutally wounding to the ego, and that’s the sugar-coated version of the truth.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s never too late to become the hero of your own tale. Your life is your story. Don’t let anyone else write it for you.

What are you reading now?
I’ve just started reading “Well Groomed” by Fiona Walker and I’m loving it so far.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to finish my fourth novel, start working on my fifth, and just keep going, one day at the time.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The first four on my list of favorites, of course. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Tanamera by Noel Barber, Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes, and The Pelican Brief by John Grisham.

Awesome Author - Louisa Treyborac

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Louisa Treyborac – – – Bibliographie ici – – – and bibliography below; french athoress seeking to write in both languages, english and french.

Born in Paris in 1963, she is a preschool teacher. While living five years abroad in England, Denmark, Haïti and Switzerland, and also speaking five languages, she strongly feels being a heiress of three generations of booksellers-publishers plus artists. Obviously, she follows the family tradition transmitting stories and bearing writing projects of tales and novels for the youngest to the more mature spirits. She writes in French and will soon publish in english too.

With french publisher Milan Presse, she wrote three early readers sports and humour tales : Le vélo de Bénéo, Le chewing-gum and La course à la poule, linked to a national reading challenge.
She published six short stories including french publisher Éditions du Vénasque.
Son first angelic fantasy novel of bitlit genre, TERRA CEVENOLA, was released in 2019 at Le Lys Bleu Éditions publisher. More novels and tales are being written currently in both languages, including variations from the Brontë Sisters or Jane Austen.
Le chien d’Emily, a tale of Emily Brontë’s death as told by Keeper her Mastif is found in the Drôles de Bêtes book from Chalabre.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
TERRA CEVENOLA is both inspired by friends who buit a ranch in France to raise horses and donkeys as well as care for their son, a special needs autistic young adult. And the discovery of the CEVENNES area south of France, with its rich roughness and history.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Each chapter has a name starting by a number followed by some meaningful link to the number.
Between each chapter of the novel, in TERRA CEVENOLA, the chapter “prime” which follows gives the other side of what’s going on as seen by angels and demons, or states what those creatures are about to do. My unusual creation is that you’ve got two books in one as you may read the ovel and later on the prime chapters. The concept is that you have a 2 in 1 book?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mary Webb, The three Brontë sisters, Jane Austen, JK Rowling, Lemony Snicket, the authors of the Bible, George Sand, Honoré de Balzac, Enid Blyton, Christelle Dabos, Yasmina Khadra, RR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Sarah E Ladd, Roald Dahl, Marcel Aymé, Alain Monnier, Elizabeth Gaskell, Elizabeth Goudge.

What are you working on now?
A Persuasion from Jane Austen variation in time and settings. Surprise !

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Instagram relaying Youtube and Facebook mostly, and also blogs, Twitter

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be inspired, explore new fields and get a thorough training to improve all the time. And make time work for you as it takes time to get through it all.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write the book that doesn’t exist yet, but what you’ve been dreaming about…

What are you reading now?
Both fantasy books and sweet historical romances.

What’s next for you as a writer?
A young adult fantasy is currently seeking a publisher while I write a medieval

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible
Anne Brontë : The tenant of Wildfell Hall
Mary Webb : Sarn … and … Gone to earth

Awesome Author - Johnny Parker

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi I’m Johnny Parker, comedy writer from Birkenhead, England. I discovered I could write humour when my English teacher said my homework was laughable. That must have been true, because I’ve gone on to win prizes for comedy stories and short films.

I’ve written two grown up books, a humour novella and my Uncle Ronnie’s WW2 biography. I also have a couple of kids picture books, which go down well with the grandkids.

When I’m not cheering Tranmere Rovers to successive promotions, I can be found on my allotment digging spuds, battling Bindweed and daydreaming about my next book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
‘Don’t be a Hero’ is the first of a new comedy series ‘When Harry Met Barry’, the ‘hero’ Harry Harris, represents a working guy’s transition from full time dad to empty nester looking for a legacy, (and no, it’s not a bromance).

It was inspired by a part-time minimum wage job I had in a betting shop. At the time I was feeling guilty about taking time off from the normal computer contractor job to try and write a screenplay. Which of course I was going to sell to Hollywood and retire, blah blah.

The bookies job was a way to placate, unsuccessfully, my lovely girlfriend now wife, by bringing in a pittance to help with the bills.

I was a square peg in a bookies round hole and didn’t fit with the staff or the punters, but it inspired some great stories.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I get up at the crack of dawn to take our two springer spaniels for a run on the beach. The Wirral has vast empty beaches and the sea air clears the brain fog. I dictate stories into my phone as I walk and pull them together later.
I also type on the train to work in Chester, it’s amazing how those half hours add up.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The first proper book I read when I was 12 (no pictures) was ‘Where Eagles Dare’ by Alistair MacLean. It fired me up to read all his books and then all the James Bond books. I’ve always enjoyed thrillers even though I don’t read many now.
Spike Milligan was a massive comedy influence. His war memoirs in particular had me giggling on almost every page.
Bill Bryson is also a beautiful writer with wit and nerdy detail.
For me the queen of humour writing is Richmal Crompton. Her prose in the Just William series absolutely sings with class and beautiful simplicity.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on book two in the ‘When Harry Met Barry’ series. Harry Harris is battling through more problems of his own making in his new ‘career’ as a BarryBet cashier.
I’ve six books drafted and the challenge is to release one a month up to Christmas 2019.
Book two is already on Amazon pre-order, so the pressure is on!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m new to the whole book promotion thing. BKNights on Fiverr has done a good job before when I’ve had a promo. And of course I’m looking forward to working with Awesome Gang.
I’b busy badgering friends and family and have an email list of nearly 1000 to try and get some momentum.
It would be nice to get a Bookbub but will probably wait until I have a box set.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
It’s bloody hard work. Don’t try it unless you have no option or it will drive you mad. There’s no better feeling than nailing a story though, it’s worth all the pain.
Keep going, don’t be put off. Most of my books haven’t sold much but I’m learning and this launch has been the best yet.
Be true to your muse and don’t sell out.
Build that legacy and love the journey,

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It wasn’t exactly advice but an Oscar Wilde quote – “Just because I’m looking out of the window, it doesn’t mean I’m not working.”
Having always been criticised at school for looking out of the window and being a ‘scatter brain’, I realise now I wasn’t being stimulated and consequently my imagination took over.
Don’t be afraid to dream.

What are you reading now?
I’m trying to read some other authors in my genre. Caimh McDonnell is a very good writer I’m enjoying.
Plus a ton of non fiction book marketing books!

What’s next for you as a writer?
As I’m getting near retirement age I want to churn out all the stories I’ve acquired in a lifetime of getting it wrong. There is a lot to go at.
I’ve a Victorian Thriller screenplay I want to turn into a novel and would love to earn enough from writing to make that retirement (south of France overlooking the Med) a reality.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d take a Just William anthology to remind me not to grow up too much.
Bill Bryson’s A Short History of Nearly Everything to satisfy the science and history nerd in me.
The Lord of the Rings to remind me of my youth and to escape to another world.

Awesome Author - Aleksandar Stevanovic

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in Serbia and I am a potter. In free time, I like to read about many things and among them is Horticulture, Gardening, Microclimate etc. So I gathered enough knowledge to write my first book about that topic.

Awesome Author - Wayne Clevenger

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in the 40′ and 50′ and since that time I have traveled a great deal. I have been to Europe and to Israel. I spent four and a half years in London and since that time have pursued a career as a small independent business man.
My first book was “The purpose for Human Existence.” I republished and now the book is under the title of “God has plans for You.”
I have written eight books about our purpose and have branched out into a teen trilogy titled “Adventures with Blaze – The Rescue, Adventures with Blaze – The Camping Trip and Adventures with Blaze – The Kidnapping.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“An Open Letter to Franklin Graham,” was just recently updated. But before that Id have been updating “God Has Plans for You,” and “God’s Perfect Classroom.”
Since early childhood, in the 40’s and 50’s I have been pondering the questions, “Why would God make us physical and temporary, and What is our purpose?”

What are you working on now?
I am working on marketing of my books. I have been redoing the covers and rewriting some of the content. ‘It is said that, “writing a book is easy it is the marketing that is hard,” and that has proven to be true.

I am in the process of writing a historical fiction titled “The Border Queen.” A fictional story of a young man trying to find his way in a rough and rowdy border town on the Chisholm Trail. Caldwell, Kansas is on the border of Kansas and Oklahoma and the years from 1870 to late 1890 there was plenty of action which would not only intrigue a young man but draw him into some very deadly disputes.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing and learn all you can about marketing your masterpiece

What are you reading now?
A biography about a reporter in Afghanistan.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have not yet decided. Only to upgrade my present writings and them put them aside while marketing them.
