Bringing You Weekly Tips From Authors

Awesome Author - Ronan Farrell

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is my debut published fiction, I’m currently in the process of writing the sequel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A Time to Deceive, it’s cross-genre and has an intriguing plot, jam-packed with exciting twists and turns.
I love history and science fiction, it brings these two genres together wonderfully.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really but when the words are flowing I can write into the early hours. Just keep the black coffee coming!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have quite an eclectic mix of authors and books that I enjoy, from Frank Herberts famous Dune series; The Lord of the Rings; Bernard Cornwell’s Sharpe series to the more recent Gail Honeyman’s Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

What are you working on now?
I’m writing the sequel to “A Time to Deceive -the Wanderer Chronicles”, the main character Brad as longevity which I hope the readers will take to their hearts.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still learning, trying and testing various different websites to see which works best. Promoting my books is a lot harder and more time consuming than I ever realized it would be.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be honest to yourself, write about what interests you, that way your creative juices will flow better. Develop your own style of writing and don’t try and copy others. Readers enjoy originality.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
What you don’t know, can’t hurt you.
Don’t take yourself too seriously, be able to laugh at yourself.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading the Flashman series by George Macdonald Fraser. They are so irreverent and non-pc, outrageous at times, so much so that they are quite refreshing and humorous.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write more books, possibly a script for TV or film. I think “A Time to Deceive ” would make a truly great film.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A Time to Deceive – Ronan Farrell
Frank Herbert – Dune
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – Steig Larsson

Awesome Author - Payal Sinha

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a freelance writer who has just entered into the creative world. I believe that stories have their own soul and they just seek the writers who can type them down. Many a time, I have not thought about a story, but they have come on their own and propelled me to say to the world. I started my literary career with two short story books and am now working on a novella on the paranormal genre.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My last book was on the paranormal genre. They are a mixture of local folk tales and personal experiences.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Actually, I am a vivid reader. I see many beautiful dreams that could easily be turned into complete stories. Every morning my daughter looks forward to hearing my last night’s dream and I plan to write them down once I am clear of the existing to-do stories.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am very much influenced by classics. I love Beggar Princess, Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, Gone with the Wind, The Other Side of Midnight and such women-centered books. I also enjoy romances particularly from Barbara Cartland. I love Danielle Steel and have read most of her books.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a novella which is again influenced by real-life experience.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I give free books to readers for review and also target a number of bloggers who enjoy reading books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
People don’t know about you or your books, so advertising your book is important.

What are you reading now?
I am a voracious reader and am always reading books. On average I read one book in a couple of days.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to write a novel, but, it will take much time and effort.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring along a unread Danielle Steel book, a Barbara Cartland book, a book on historical romance, and a Harry Potter book

Awesome Author - David Fitz-Gerald

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is David Fitz-Gerald. I’m a business person from Vermont and I have written two historical novels.
I refer to myself as an amateur author, and I make a point of contrasting myself with the atheist activist author of the same name. I enjoy getting lost in the settings I imagine and spending time with the characters I create. I have taken to referring to the main character of my most recent book as my “imaginary friend.” I think that writing historical fiction is like making paintings of the past. I love to weave fact and fiction together, stirring in action, adventure, romance and a heavy dose of the supernatural with the home of transporting the reader to another time and place. I am an Adirondack 46-er, which means that I have hiked all of the highest peaks in New York State, so don’t be surprised when I attempt to glorify hikers as swashbuckling superheroes.
I refer to myself as an amateur author. There is atheist activist author by the same name,

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Wanders Far-An Unlikely Hero’s Journey. I started writing it while I was waiting for my editor to finish her work on my first book. At first I was inspired to tell the legendary story of how Whiteface, the 1980 Olympic mountain near Lake Placid, New York got its name. My brother Jeff told me that I should write a book like the ones I enjoyed growing up. As a kid, I read every book about Native American heroes I could find, heroes like Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Geronimo, Tecumseh, and Sacajawea. I also read westerns, from the Louis L’Amour catalog to James Michener’s Centennial. With my brother’s encouragement in mind, I came to think, “Maybe I could do that.”

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t claim to have unusual writing habits. I like to write with coffee, early in the morning. I like to work with a highly organized outline. When I’m developing a story, or a part of a story, I’ll have it on my mind while I’m falling asleep, while I’m getting my 10,000 steps, and while I’m commuting to work. I travel for business, and sometimes I’ll work on writing all crumpled up on airplanes, like a tyrannosaurus. I often credit my writing abilities to my noise-cancelling headphones!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite book is Sacajawea by Anna Lee Waldo. I also loved the Clan of the Cave Bear series by Jean Auel. I was also greatly influenced by James Michener, Louis L’Amour, and Larry McMurtry. And I still have a soft spot for the Trumpet of the Swan, by E.B. White, even after all these years.

What are you working on now?
My current book is the first in what I’m calling the Adirondack Spirit Series. I’ve got several future installments of that series at various stages of development. My plan is to continue forward through the generations, telling the stories of the descendants of Wanders Far and the lives they lead, in the Adirondack mountains of New York State.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m hoping this one is! I love the name of it, and I’m hoping Wanders Far will be a big hit with the members of the Awesome Gang.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Early this year I spent an enormous amount of time learning about book marketing. I’ve come to appreciate that helping your creative work find an audience requires a very active marketing effort. I think it needs as much time as the rest of the process put together, and as big a budget as the rest as well. Of course I’d recommend my editor, my cover designer, and my audio book narrator, so if anyone would like those contacts, please reach out to me!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I’ve been blessed to receive lots of great advice through the years. “Don’t put it off” is always good advice. Contemplating this question in this moment, I’m thinking of the lyrics in Martina McBride’s song called Anyway, from 2006. Maybe I could add a verse or two to that song…

What are you reading now?
Lately I’ve been focusing on reading indie books by newer authors, and trying to expand beyond my ordinary favorite sub/sub/sub genre’s. I’ve recently completed Song of Songs by Marc Graham, and Fortress of the Sun: An Epic Novel of the Battle of Corinth by E.M. Thomas. The next book on my shelf is The Secret Life of Mrs. London by Rebecca Rosenberg.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After a couple of months dedicated to marketing my current book, I look forward to working on the next installment in my series. I am psyched to write the last book in the series, I’ve got that practically written in my head. I also can’t wait to write an installment set between the Revolutionary war and the War of 1812. However, I think it makes sense to place those projects on the back burner, and let them simmer, while I work my way forward chronologically. So I think my next project will feature the great-grandson of Wanders Far and will be set in pre-colonial New York State, in the 1200s.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hm. This question made me wonder, so I googled it. There’s actually several books by different authors called How to Survive on a Deserted or Desert Island. I think I’d like to have one that would tell me how to filter water, which plants could be eaten, and other practical tips. If I could add enjoyable books to the island bookshelf, I would bring Sacajawea, Lonesome Dove, Centennial, and The Clan of the Cave Bear, by Anna Lee Waldo, Larry McMurtry, James Michener, and Jean Auel.

What are you working on now?
The last 3 books of a five-part series to finish the story may the first novella started.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Nothing i haven’t stolen from the greates. Get a copy of “the elements of style” and read deeply to write deeply.

Lone drow trilogy from RA Salvatore and the last non-fiction I read was “Made to Stick by Dan and Chip Heath.

Awesome Author - Sabine Elrod

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I absolutely love to read YA and adult fantasy. Especially books about the supernatural including vampires, shifters, mermaids, and unicorns. I have a special place for books that take place in Asian inspired fantasy realms such as those written by Nicolette Andrews and Julie Kagawa. In fact, one of my major projects is set in a fantasy Japan.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My current book is called Stubborn as a Bulldog and I’ll be honest, this wasn’t a planned book. I actually have several other books I’m working on but when I saw this cover on one of the pre-made cover pages on Facebook, the ideas started to flow. I sat down and began to type and, here we are! I wanted to write a shifter reverse harem that was different and unconventional, especially since the main characters isn’t a werewolf but is actually a bulldog, a French bulldog to be exact and she has big plans! Much of the story elements were inspired by movies and TV series. I invite my readers to see if they can pick out where my inspirations came from.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do most of my writing on my phone in a series of emails. Since I have a young child I don’t get to just sit and type for very long periods of time so I ‘ve gotten used to just typing things up in an email and then sending it to myself. I’ve written entire chapters like this!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Yumoyori Wilson, Nicolette Andrews, AJ Anders and Julie Kagawa are the authors I love!

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on book two in Pack University (hint, it will have more foxes in it) as well as finishing up my Asian inspired YA novel and an adult science fiction featuring dinosaurs.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to use Instagram and Twitter. They are both easy to use, the audience is huge and responsive.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Sit down and write! I know that sounds like a no-brainer but, if your a mom like me, it isn’t as easy as everyone says it is. So you have to get creative about it – like when I use my phone, or I’ll leave my computer on and type between passes while picking up toys, or during nap time and for a few hours after laying my kiddo down for bed at night. I try to get at least 2k words a day written but, sometimes it just doesn’t happen and that’s OK! Don’t beat yourself up about it, write when you can.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Your audience will find you. Basically, this means that you shouldn’t stress over if anyone will like your book or not. No matter what you think there will be someone out there who will love your book and they will convince others to love your book as well, that’s how a fandom starts. Let your audience grow organically.

What are you reading now?
Oh wow, I have a huge TBR list. Right now I am reading/trying to read: The Cerulean, The Tiger at Midnight, Soul of the Sword, We Hunt the Flame as well as

What’s next for you as a writer?
Well, as I said I have book two of Pack University in the works as well as outlining for a third book in the series. I have another series planned as well which will involve dragon shifters as well as maintaining my website and blog.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh man, I hate this question because it’s always so hard to choose! Ok, so here goes. I would bring:

The Unlikely Ones by Mary Brown. This was one of the first fantasy books I read as a kid and it was the book that started it all – a unicorn in love with a prince, talking animals, a fiery female protagonist, it was awesome. I’ve read it so much I had to buy a newer copy!

Venom in her Veins by Tim Pratt. This was a Forgotten Realms novel I read from back in my serious D&D days (I still play) about my favorite race, the Yuan-Ti. The main protagonist is another strong female, Zaltys, who doesn’t take any crap, what she doesn’t know is that she is a humanoid Yuan-Ti and so was going to be sacrificed for her “ugliness” when she was rescued by humans who mistook her for a normal human child. Like the previous book, I’ve read it a dozen times and I’d always read it again.

Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa. I loved this book because Yumiko is not only a kitsune but also self-assured and determined to carry out her mission no matter what danger she faces. She grew up believing that her kitsune powers were evil but, as she learns more about herself on her journey, she finds that her kitsune powers come in handy but must resist the allure to abuse them or run the risk of becoming a wicked fox.

Awesome Author - N J King

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have loved books and writing since childhood. For me books have always been a escape, a place where anything can happen, and an opportunity to learn. I started writing as a hobby when I was 8, however I started publishing my work in 2018 with Daughters of the Jade Isle. My second book, The Philosopher, was released earlier this year.

Books, history and nature are my passions, and I often combine all of these into my writing. If I’m not writing then I’m reading, watching history documentaries or being out in the countryside.

I write books that involve looking at people’s relationships, whether that’s romantic, familial or, as is the case with the Philosopher, relationships we have with ourselves.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Philosopher, which is about a young woman’s experience of mild-moderate depression.

I felt the need to write Miranda’s story after speaking to many people, and realising that so many of us go through what I call in the book the quarter-life crisis. I found that many people, myself included, set unrealistic expectations and timeframes on themselves, often based on societal expectations. When we inevitably find ourselves unable to achieve these expectations, it can hit us hard. It wasn’t until I had come to terms with this myself, and started talking to others that I realised this is something many people go through. I found that telling others my experience, and why I thought it had happened, seemed to give others hope, a sense that what they were experiencing was normal, natural.

This was my intention in creating Miranda’s story. She is an ordinary young woman; she could be you, your friend, your sister. Her story is intended to give hope and remind people it’s ok to be struggling sometimes.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to have my own space to write, but that’s not always possible. I have a summer house which is great because I can spread out in there when I brainstorm and know I won’t be interrupted.

When I’m working on a new idea I try to let it form organically. I write down the basic outline and a few phrases I don’t want to forget, but otherwise I just mull it over until I’m ready to work on it. I try to keep to one project at a time, otherwise I’ll never finish!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Growing up I lived in the worlds of Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskell, and I am also a fan of Philippa Gregory’s books. I think these authors inspired my portrayals of life experiences from the female perspective.

I also grew up in the age of Harry Potter so J K Rowling was a big inspiration for me. Not just her books, but her perseverance in getting her books published and the way she weaves important moral themes into her books.

Though not an author, I have also taken inspiration from the music of Macklemore. Many of his songs highlight the importance of using your voice, in whatever form that may be, to highlight issues and struggles in the world that need attention. This concept is now at the backbone of my writing.

What are you working on now?
I have just started working on a fantasy trilogy set in a walled city divided by faiths. This may be a little while in the making, but I plan to have some smaller projects released in the meantime so keep an eye on my website for news.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use the normal routes of social media- Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Goodreads. I also keep in touch with other pages that promote either readers or, on a smaller scale, news in the local area. I have also had my books featured in some papers and magazines.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. To be a writer you’ll need to develop a thick skin, but even some of the best loved books out there faced rejection many times before they made it into print.

Try and keep to one project at a time, unless you’ve got more willpower than me. When I was first writing I’d flit from one idea to another, never finishing any. The best decision I made was to stay with one project until the very end.

Let others read your work, and not just your close friends and family. It’s daunting, a creative piece of work is so personal, but it’s important to have your work critiqued if you want to improve and succeed.

Don’t fall out of love with it. When you’re editing your story for the 6th time or getting frustrated trying to get your head around book promotion it’s easy to do, but we all get into writing because we love books and we love story telling and it’s important not to disconnect with that. If you feel you are then take a break, read some books, reach out to other writers. #WritingCommunity on Twitter is a great place to get some advice or sympathy.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best piece of advice I’ve had I think was a meme I saw on Twitter. It was basically a reminder that your first draft of a book is just you getting your ideas down on paper. You won’t like it at first, you’re not supposed to, but now you have a basis to work with, to edit, until you love it. It’s something I have to remind myself every time I start a new project.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Good Omens by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett and Jane Seymour The Haunted Queen by Alison Weir.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My last two books were written in fairly quick succession, so I’m taking things a bit slower with my next project. Being a fantasy trilogy there’s a lot of planning to be done, which is great fun. I do also have some short story and poetry projects that I plan to develop in the meantime.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Besides How to Build a Raft and Herbalism 101? It would have to be The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy, The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton, Pride and Prejudice and The Lord of the Rings.

Awesome Author - N K Aning

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a writer from Ghana. I have written and self published about eleven books ranging from supernatural, horror and a non-fiction book. I love reading fantasy novels, mystery and science fiction.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Pierce and the CIty of Imaginaterium. That’s a tough one. This book was inspired by one of Einstein’s quote. It’s all about our ability to imagine things into reality.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well, that’s an interesting question. Unusual habits, huh. Don’t tell anyone this but I do record some of my spontaneous bits of inspiration on my phone to write down later.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King for one. I also enjoy reading Neil Gaiman’s works. These two writers have influenced me greatly. Not forgetting Enid Blyton, enjoyed his fables as a kid.

What are you working on now?
I am actually working on two projects right now. One is a romance novel with a twist and the other is a sequel to Pierce and the City of Imaginaterium.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook ads.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The only advice I can give you is to start. It will be hard at first but in the end it will be worth it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you want to read.

What are you reading now?
The Palace of Lost Memories

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am hoping to write more and probably make it a lucrative one in the near future.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s a difficult choice. I would take An Ocean at the end of the Lane, A Game of Thrones, The Dark Tower and lastly, let me see, Never where.

Awesome Author - Amanda Rivers

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Amanda and I am an author. I have written three books and am working on a forth. I love writing fiction and reading fantasy. When I am not writing, you can find me playing video games. I also love the beach and I love animals. I have many interests, but writing is the one that interests me the most.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I just published Lifeline. It’s inspired by my family because many of them struggle with cancer. My book is about a twenty year old boy with terminal cancer.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I usually stare at my computer screen for twenty minutes with writer’s block. That may not be unusual for a writer.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I would not be the writer I am today without J.K. Rowling. Her magical worlds inspired me to create my first book which included its own magic.

What are you working on now?
I am working on the prequel to my first book, Zertone. The new book will be called Prisoner Prince.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to use Amazon.com for promoting, but have used Awesome Gang in the past.

Do you have any advice for new authors?

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Life is like a dark tunnel, if you keep going, you will eventually find the light at the end.

What are you reading now?

What are you reading now?
I haven’t had time to read lately since I have been working on my own books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I still want to write a sequel to Zertone.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?

Awesome Author - Viola Sebastian-Jones

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a scholar, educator, and senior leader in higher education who has been teaching and advising students for three decades at elite research universities and liberal arts colleges. My extensive leadership background includes expertise directing first-year experience programs and curricula, leading large departments and academic units, as well as years of experience as an Academic Dean. In my free time I am an avid sailor and gardener.

I approach higher education as an industry with candor and a forthright approach designed to help families, parents, and students get the insight, help, and information they need. I have several guides available:

The Four College Myths: A Cautionary Guide for Parents of First-Year Students examines the four pivotal myths about college that negatively affect students throughout their first-year experience, myths that institutions use to help bolster their enrollment and retention. It provides parents with seven clear and practical strategies for managing these myths and getting accurate, useful information from colleges.

A Student’s Guide to the 5 Essentials of the First-Year Experience in College distills three decades of experience working with students and families to provide high school seniors and college freshmen with the five essentials all students must master in the first year of college in order to succeed academically and personally.

Procrastination in College: Solutions for First-Year Students provides students with an in-depth discussion of the 12 most common causes of procrastination. It gives students the effective solutions they can use throughout their college years.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My guide, Academic Success in College: A Guide for First-Year Students, combines in one book the above two guides. This book is for high school seniors planning to attend college as well as first-year college students at any college or university. Parents will find this book invaluable for understanding the challenges students face in the freshman year of college and will benefit from knowing the solutions that work. I wanted to make both of the shorter guides available to students in one place, a book they can use throughout the first year of college and beyond.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
In terms of writing habits, I structure my books for students and families around distilled essentials, so I create a concise table of contents before I begin writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read extensively in higher education theory, both developmental and academic, as well as nonfiction books about travel, gardening, and sailing.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a book to help college students prevent and manage high blood sugar in college. This is especially challenging for students who might be on meal plans and not cooking their own food.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use various sites, but I think the quality and expertise of the work should speak for itself.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing and be very self-critical about your work.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Read, read, read and read some more

What are you reading now?
Down to Earth: Gardening Wisdom (Monty Don)

What’s next for you as a writer?
Would love to do a gardening book!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?

Awesome Author - Flora Caputo

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been an award-winning art director/creative director in the Chicago ad biz for over 25 years and graduated from Columbia College Chicago with an emphasis in Illustration. A lot of my clients have been in the food and beverage arena, and my love of food grew into a rich and vibrant online website and social space in 2008, under the brand “The Urban Domestic Diva”. It is now a place where I share a lot of creative inspiration for the garden, kitchen and home. I am able to use a lot of my design, marketing, writing and photography styling experience all at once. Gardening and food continue to coalesce in my brain, spurring curiosity and creativity- because they are symbiotic. I wrote a book about using herbs and florals in sweeter recipes a few years ago, called Savoring Sweet. And this spring I launched BEE NATIVE! Flower Power.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
BEE NATIVE! Flower Power launched this spring, and it was inspired by my love of gardening and food, and the important role pollinators play in that relationship. The number of bees and butterflies are depleting at a rapid rate. Just last month 9 bumblebee species were put on the endangered species list. As this has been happening, I have slowly been adding native plants to my garden planning. The impact was noticeable. The ore natives I planted, the more butterflies and bees visited my yard. I counted 20 butterflies in 4 days and I am not even outside 24/7. And I live in the city and have an urban garden. So the power of native plants and flowers is real, and it can make a huge impact on your local pollinator population. The best way to act globally is to start locally, and why not your own back yard?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I will jam and listen to podcasts, youtube videos and music when I design, illustrate and art direct. But when it comes to writing, I need it quiet with no distractions. It’s bizarre for me, but there it is. I also like diffusing essential oils sometimes when I write. Clarity, lavender, citrus always helps.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Well, fiction-wise, Ray Bradbury & Neil Gaiman are my absolute favorites. Non-fiction authors and thought leaders in the food and garden genre-I always loved Jerry Baker. His writing style and approach is very homespun, and all his garden tips and “tonics” are less toxic for the environment. I use his garden ideas all the time in my own outdoor spaces.

What are you working on now?
Once I get this book in as many people’s gardening-gloved hands as possible this summer, I will be working on the second BEE NATIVE! in the series-either the East Coast region or the Pacific. I plan on tackling all the native plant regions of the country. So no matter where you live, you will have an easy and beautiful guidebook to help you choose a plant that works perfectly in your garden, and helps your local pollinators.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
https://www.urbandomesticdiva.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you feel the need to write that book, but feel the market is saturated enough in your space, and suffer from imposter syndrome-just remember-there is only one you. You have your way of telling your story. People will want to hear your unique voice. Tell it your way, and be true to who you are, and you will be fine.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Eleanor Roosevelt: “You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” I think that’s how the quote qoes.

What are you reading now?
Just finished “Where the Crawdads Sing”. And I started Smoke and Iron by Rachel Caine-from The Great Library Series. It’s summer, so a little fantasy is kind of nice.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to create a larger, hardbound book about all the things that my blog and social space are about. How to craft with small budgets and in small spaces, cooking and homesteading while working crazy hours. Tips, recipes, ideas, lifestyle-and all with beautiful photography and infographics I want to grow the Urban Domestic Diva online space and shop into a lifestyle brand, for people to be inspired to make their lives creative, beautiful and delicious.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Dandelion Wine, Ray Bradbury. Norton Anthology of American Literature, Neil Gaiman Trigger Warnings.

Awesome Author - Rob Shackleford

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, My name is Rob Shackleford and I live on the Gold Coast in Australia with Deborah-Jane, my partner. We each have a son and a daughter and, because they are living away from home and have not yet decided to have kids, we are in that sweet spot in time when we can, and do, travel when we can.
I have written a few books but I have only one, Traveller Inceptio, that is published so far.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Traveller Inceptio is a blend of Science Fiction and Historical Fiction which examines what could really happen if we placed 21st Century researchers into 11th Century Saxon England. If you were placed there, would you survive? How do you think you would fare with the food, the clothes, the language or the superstitions? What about the lack of law and order and the threat of violence?
My inspiration came after I was ripped off by a dishonest business partner and I sat on the beach and was forced to look at my options. While there I looked at the buildings around me and imagined what the location would look like 100 years in the past, then 200 years when white explorers first arrived, then 1000 years ago. A story began to form, which became Traveller Inceptio. Inceptio means “Beginning” in Latin, the religious language spoken in the time. I had to add that part of the title because, have you seen how many books there are with the title, ‘Traveller’? Dozens!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I generally write in the morning. If I have a flash of inspiration, that means I can get up as early as 4am. After a few hours we go for a walk and a coffee. By midday I gym and then sometimes play the Play Station while I think about my research or seek inspiration while I am killing zombies or whatever.

I do research a lot! With Traveller Inceptio I lacked the confidence to write so I thoroughly researched for about a year before I dared write anything. I live in terror of having wrong information, of a historian saying – “Oh, this is rubbish because xyz!” My local library banned me at one stage as I had a really good book on Saxon history out for 6 months.
The most unusual thing is how sometimes I can write and it doesn’t feel like I am writing, where the story develops in ways I had not anticipated, where I go, “Wow! I didn’t know that was going to happen!”

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are so many!
I admire the beautiful descriptive writing of ‘The Life of Pi’s Yann Martel, ‘Shantaram’s Gregory David Roberts, or Colleen McCullough’s superb series of novels on Rome.
I love brilliant imagination and the ability to story-tell as shown in the warped imagination of Steven King, Tolkien and even the simplicity of ‘The Martian’s Andy Weir.
I am also astounded by the pure brilliance of the research undertaken by historian Simon Sebag Montfiore and his range of excellent novels, and of course Bernard Cornwell.
Last but not least I adore the Science Fiction greats – Arthur C Clarke, Frank Herbert, Robert Heinlein, Greg Bear and so many others who make our imaginations soar beyond the stars.
And these are but a few. I will post this and then say – “How could I have forgotten …?”

What are you working on now?
Traveller Inceptio lends itself to a sequel, which is Traveller Probo – to Prove – and that is now in the hands of an editor.
Book 3 in the Traveller Series – Traveller Manifesto – is being polished up for an Editor, so is also essentially complete.
I am also currently putting the finishing touches on a couple of books that are outside of the Traveller universe.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I really have yet to discover that.
Unfortunately, the world of publishing has changed. Publishers are going out of business and those who remain tend to hang back from financial commitment to authors until they are an assured sale. that means either an existing best-selling author, or a celebrity. So authors must climb that slippery slope to success largely unassisted.
I engage heavily with social media, with varying results, and have also taken on the task of communicating with almost 1000 viable literary bloggers to review my work – which can be testing but is going well.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
1. Persist. I heard a cheesy saying from an author I can’t recall, which goes: “The successful Author is the one who persisted.” Take some hope in that most authors have had to scarper naked through the valley of death.

2. Being an author is about being commercially viable. Modern publishers want to make money off you, web sites want to make money off you, the various nebulous publishing services do too. Be judicious about where you spend your money and understand this is a business like the music industry. In the end you will have to watch out!

3. Be true to yourself. You work is your work, but also accept that sometimes a suggestion might be good for you. The first time I had Traveller Inceptio edited it was by a grumpy old bastard of an Englishman who tore off my arm and beat me over the head with it. Thanks to his bemoaning of my abilities I was compelled to relook at what was written, removed some chapters, cut the length of my manuscript, and essentially was forced to concede that I had a lot to learn. He also hated one of my characters as it reminded him of a kid who bullied him when he was at school, which was brilliant! It meant my character development touched a chord in him, even though it might have been negative.

4. Each literary masterpiece started with the first written word. Start your work and don’t be too hard on yourself. Let the work emerge when it will, but write something! It is easier to edit than to make the first utterance. Good luck and have fun!!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t believe everything you think!

What are you reading now?
I am about to embark on a journey in India, so I am reading “The Story of India” by Michael Wood while delving into the darkly realistic world view of Chris Hedges in his brilliant “America – The Farewell Tour.”

What’s next for you as a writer?
In order to achieve my goal of commercial viability, my current approach is to promote Traveller Inceptio and try to untie the Gordion Knot which is the path to effective literary promotion. (Sorry about the Classical reference there.)
While I am editing ‘Traveller Manifesto’, it confirms that the story is pretty good, so I am encouraged. I am in the process of signing off on two other books I have been writing that are outside of the Traveller universe while pondering on any further adventures for the Travellers.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“How to Stay Alive” by Bear Grills.
“Robinson Crusoe” by Daniel Defoe
“The Art of Happiness” by the Dalai Lama

Awesome Author - Joshua Lakhamraju

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 23 years old. My parents immigrated from India, and I am the oldest and only male of 4 children. I live outside Atlanta, Georgia and work at the Georgia Aquarium, specifically in the Entertainment division.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“The Hand That Bites” took inspiration from Bethany Stephens, who was mauled to death by her own dogs in Virginia in December 2017.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write what I think and rarely think about what I write.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I generally do not take inspiration from authors or books because I want to be as original and creative as I can without copying other authors or books.

What are you working on now?
I just finished a novel involving a love triangle between a man and two sisters. I am currently shopping for a publisher.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am just getting started on promoting my books, so I am keeping all my options on the table.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what is on your mind. Then revise and edit it so that it is concise enough for readers to understand.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I forget who said it, and I will probably butcher this. “If everyone thinks the same, no one will make progress.”

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading Hamlet. I am trying to write a modern novel based on it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am just getting started. But I hope to make writing a full-time career.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
As of now, I cannot think of any. Perhaps if I spend a couple of years on the desert, I might come up with something.

Awesome Author - Clive Fleury

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Currently, I’m an Englishman in Miami, having fled the gray skies and rain of London. But I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be here as I have a disease called ‘Wanderlust’. Luckily I’ve been able to treat it by working as an author and scriptwriter, and TV and film director and producer all over the world.
My first book was written a few years back and called ‘The Boy Next Door’. It’s aimed at young adults and is available on Amazon. Since then I’ve three more books including my latest Kill Code: A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
As I just mentioned, my latest book is Kill Code: A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel. It’s the first of a trilogy and is set in a world just a little in the future. It’s a world decimated by climate catastrophe, where the sun’s heat is deadly and the oceans rise higher every day. A world ruled by the rich, powerful, and corrupt. A world where a good man can’t survive for long. The principal protagonist Hogan Duran was a good man once: a good cop, forced to resign in disgrace when he couldn’t save his partner from a bullet. But after four years of living in poverty, Hogan finally gets the chance to get back on his feet. All he needs to do is pass one deadly entrance exam, and he’ll be rewarded with wealth and opportunity beyond his wildest dreams. But in a world gone wrong, can one good man actually make a difference? Or will he die trying?
I first had the idea for the book a few years ago but kept putting off writing it. However, as the world has got distinctly darker I felt the need to tell a ‘what if’ story: https://www.amazon.com/Kill-Code-Dystopian-Science-Fiction-ebook/dp/B07JZX5VV2

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I would love to say that I can only write if I’m hanging upside down bat-like from a steel girder, or that I have to drink twelve cups of coffee before I can begin anything. Unfortunately, the truth is more prosaic. I simply sit in front of my typewriter and hope that I can write something worth reading.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many authors have influenced me. Dickens, Tolstoy, and Shelley; pulpy authors like Elmore Leonard and John Grisham, and new unknown authors. All of them in one way or another serve as inspiration for me to write.

What are you working on now?
I’m trying to write the second book in the ‘Code’ trilogy. But I can’t tell you anything about it as I’m superstitious. Hopefully, I’ll complete it soon and I would love you to go out and buy and review it when it’s published.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best method of promotion is always good word of mouth but first people have to find the book. Every month there are more and more novels being published so I use paid advertising to publicize my books. However, finding something that really works is difficult and so far everything seems hit and miss.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Three words from the oracle Nike: Just do it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The same three words: Just Do It

What are you reading now?
I’m not reading now, as I’m writing and it distracts me. However, the last book I read ‘The Lost Man’ by Jane Harper was brilliant. It’s an eerie thriller set in the Australian outback. It’s beautifully written and has, as one of its main characters, a man called Bub. In my humble opinion, any author who is brave enough to call a central character Bub deserves high praise whatever the quality of the book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I think there’s only one thing next for any writer… to keep writing!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
What a difficult question: The answer today is ‘Planet of the Apes’, ‘The Catcher in the Rye’, and ‘Flowers for Algernon’ – but who knows what it will be tomorrow?

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born and raised in Argentina. Educated in the U.S. I came to Mexico in 1962 with Time/Life International. I have been a regular lecturer to newly arrived foreign residents titled: Mexico – History, Legend and Cross Border Culture. I published two novels in Mexico, “The Crystal Bull” and “The Line/La Línea” (rewritten under the new title “The Long Way Home.” In 2012 my first nonfiction book, “Mexico Behind The Mask,” was published by Potomac Books in Washington, D.C. and the University of Nebraska Press. My latest book, in the form of a Limited Edition, is titled “Pebbles In Time.” I have represented The “Financial Times” and “Business Week” (not as a foreign correspondent) for over twenty years. From 1975 to 1985 I published a series of magazines along the west coast of Mexico titled “About”: About Tijuana (including Ensenada, Loreto, and San Felipe), Los Cabos (including La Paz), Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Guadalajara, and Acapulco.
In the 1980s, as a representative of Business Week, he published four special sections on “production sharing” along the border. As a representative of the magazine, he was also a member of a Mexican think tank in Mexico City known as The Pinnacle Group. During these years in the late nineties, I had the opportunity to meet and listen to many leading Mexican politicians and businessmen. For a period of fifteen years I outsourced for Bancomext (Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior) publishing the annual Mexican Directory of Foreign Trade. I have lived in Mexico these last fifty-two years. On my latest book, I decided to revisit the country of my youth drawing from my own experiences but those of my older brother and father. My father immigrated to Argentina after World War I.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
El Ombú – A British Family Saga in Argentina is a story that relies on many historical facts. I decided to revisit Argentina, the country of my birth, and tell a story surrounding the rise and fall of the British and Anglo-Argentine hegemony in Argentina that lasted approximately 150 and is little known outside that country.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Since I’m bilingual I have a hard time with grammar as I get confused between the English and Spanish grammar

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Hermann Hess’s book Sidharta highlighting personal experience over the classroom.

What are you working on now?
I haven’t made up my mind.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t write query letters and stay away from literary agents. These people don’t read, they only make deals. Concentrate on editors since they get paid to read.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Youth is wasted on the young,” by Oscar Wilde and ingrained in me by my father.

What are you reading now?
“The Unlikely Spy” by Daniel Silva

What’s next for you as a writer?
I don’t know.

Awesome Author - Lexie Renard

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m from Toronto, Ontario, and I write Romance, S&M Romance, and Erotica.
I might be drinking cheap whiskey and writing something filthy right now. Yes, I’m actually really into BDSM. Want to see the rope marks?
I’ve written over 150 short stories, novellas, and one romance novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My novella “Nomad’s Deal” is coming out in a few days. It’s a weird, sweet romantic twist on the concept of aliens coming to Earth and helping themselves to the women. Don’t worry, there are plenty of spicy bits!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Sometimes I have writing marathon days where I crank out over 8,000 words and nearly wear a groove in the carpet from pacing. I sometimes go for a little walk and dictate some parts as I go, but try to watch my mouth when people are out with strollers. Eeek.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to list, really. I read a lot of sci fi, spec fic, and weird stuff from fellow Toronto authors.

What are you working on now?
My second full length romance novel, and several erotic romance novellas. Oh, and spending a little time on a patio. Sunshine and fresh air is supposed to be good for you.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I hang with the #writingcommunity on Twitter, but have no idea if they’re actually buyers. I have an email list where I bribe people with a monthly free book to check out my stuff.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The first draft is a SKETCH. It’s like scribbling on a napkin at the pub. Only when you have a complete crappy first draft do you know who these people are and that the bleep is going on.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write more.

What are you reading now?
I’m about to start “Save the Cat Writes a Novel.”

What’s next for you as a writer?
Getting into longer works, more novels, and a lot more paperbacks. They’re slow and annoying to format, but I need to catch up.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh, good grief. That’s just mean. I would need a few days to think about that.
Likely The Farfarers by Farley Mowat because it’s been on my shelf for a few years and I haven’t gotten to it yet.

I love to write with a coffee beside me, which I think is stock-standard for many authors!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I just loved the book ‘Veronica Decides to Die’ by Paulo Coelho, and ‘Winesburg, Ohio’ although they are very different from my own writing style.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on The Clear Skin Solution- a book of evidence-backed solutions for clearing acne without damaging your skin. It seems like such a trivial subject, unless you are the one suffering from acne.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promoting my books on Awesome Gang, of course!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My best advice would be to stay the course; it can be very daunting entering a market where there are already so many established players.

Awesome Author - Shayla Hyde

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Shayla Hyde. I am twenty years old, and I live in Alabama, USA. I’ve published one book, titled “Sunny Eve”, and I’m in the process of writing another.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Sunny Eve” is about a girl named Evelyn (Eve) Stanton who was born with an extraordinary sun-shaped birthmark, and it’s not until she moves to a new city with her father and discovers the existence of undead beings that she realizes just how special her birthmark truly is. I’ve always loved the science fiction/fantasy genre, and with “Sunny Eve”, I was able to create my own fantasy world.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to act out some of my scenes and read my dialogue aloud. Yes, it looks absolutely ridiculous sometimes, but with certain scenes, it feels necessary. It helps me make sure I add the needed details.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Alyson Noel, Kristin Cast, Lisa Jane Smith, Steven King, J.K Rowling, Stephanie Meyer, and so many more amazing authors. I grew up reading their books, and it is because of them that I eventually started writing my own.

What are you working on now?
I’m very excited about my current work-in-progress! This one is going to take a step back from the fantasy world and focus on a real-life epidemic. It’s a Mystery/Thriller that follows a young girl who is kidnapped. It should be available in 2020.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
awesomegang.com is pretty great, but I usually make posts on my social media accounts, mainly on my Instagram @shaylathewriter. It’s a brand new account, but I’m slowly gaining new, wonderful supporters.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m still a new author myself, but my advice would be to “write what makes you happy”. Write about what you are passionate about. Not everyone will like it, but that doesn’t matter! Write something that, when it is complete, you can hold in your hands and smile about. Write something that will touch your soul and make you genuinely happy. Don’t force yourself to write something that “everyone else” would be “more” interested in. Write about your own interests, and do it fiercely.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Appreciate The Little Things, Because They Are Not So Little.” This doesn’t relate to writing, but for me, it is important to remember. Too often, the little things that make life great are taken for granted.

What are you reading now?
“Fallen” by Lauren Kate. I’m only a few chapters in, and I am OBSESSED.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to continue pursuing my dreams and learn more about it on the way. One day at a time, one story at a time.

Awesome Author - Steven Howard

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
For over 30 years I have delivered leadership development programs around the globe, including in the U.S., Canada, Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe, and the Arab Gulf region. I am the author of 20 books on leadership, management, marketing, and personal development.

Two of my recent books have won industry awards, including a Silver Award from the Nonfiction Authors Association for bringing “a comprehensive plan of action for improving life through recognizing decision-making patterns that don’t serve us well, don’t enrich our lives, and don’t bring us to our goals and dreams.” That was for my most recent book Better Decisions Better Thinking Better Outcomes.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Better Decisions Better Thinking Better Outcomes, which was published in October 2018.

My research into Alzheimer’s disease and dementia began when I started to assist my father, who suffered from early-stage Alzheimer’s in the last few years of his life. After his passing my research intensified, mostly for selfish reasons as I certainly do not wish to live my final years in cognitive decline.

As I conducted my research I was thrilled to learn of new neuroscientific studies showing that neuroplasticity — the ability to grow neuronal connectivity across the brain — can continue well into our 70s. I also learned that our lifestyle habits (poor eating, lack of exercise, etc.) also contribute to both dementia and bad decisions, poor thinking, and undesirable outcomes.

This was a message I felt obligated to spread, hence the book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am an early riser and my brain kicks in as soon as I wake up. So I often write for 2-3 hours at the start of the day, beginning as early as 5:30.

Also, whenever I am writing or editing I put my mobile phone on airplane mode so as to not be disturbed by incoming calls and text messages.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dr. Martin Seligman, author of Authentic Happiness and several other books, has been an influence. So has Deepak Chopra, Dr. David Simon, and Daniel Goleman.

What are you working on now?
I have just completed the draft outlines for two new books on leadership. One will be a collection of quotes concerning a specific leadership skill. The other I would prefer not to reveal at this time.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That’s hard to say. It’s been different for every book. But in general, a mixture of social media (Twitter, LinkedIn) and public appearances (classroom training and speaking engagements) has proven to be a good combination.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write, write, write. And do not worrying about editing as you write. Editing can come later.

Also, use a professional editor once your second draft is complete. Very few writers are capable of editing their own work, especially when it comes to catching typos and grammatical errors.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Richard Bach wrote, “You don’t tell the quality of a master by the size of his crowds.” To me, this means that writers do not have to become best-selling authors to have an impact. So if my books reach only a few hundred people, or only a couple of thousand, I am satisfied knowing that I will have impacted those hundred or thousands of readers.

What are you reading now?
Fit for Joy: The Healing Power of Being You by Valeria Teles and Project You: Living A Determined Life by Phronesis. Both are excellent.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully, I still have a few more books in me. And I would like to expand my reach with more keynote speaking engagements.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Authentic Happiness by Dr. Martin Seligman

The Ten Commitments by Dr. David Simon

Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah and Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach

Awesome Author - Tera Lyn Cortez

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Isolation is my first published novel, and book one in a trilogy. Books two and three are well on their way, and I have a six book academy series scheduled for next year. There are also four standalone novels waiting (not so) patiently for their fifteen seconds of fame!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Isolation is my first and only, inspired by my rambling imagination.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Eating peanut butter m&ms!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read voraciously! There are too many to choose, but some of my favorite authors are Nicolas Sparks, JR Ward, Shannon Mayer & Jim Butcher.

What are you working on now?
Book two of the Soul Scribe Trilogy.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still learning on that one! I definitely use my social media accounts the most so far.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing. Even baby steps is forward progress.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t let the naysayers get in your way.

What are you reading now?
I just finished the Culling Trials trilogy by Shannon Mayer and K.F. Breene.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m just going to try and get all the books I have in my head out into the world.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Shannon Mayer’s Nevermore are my favorite three books on Earth, so definitely those. And maybe something by Stephen King? Hard to say, it would depend on my mood at the moment!

Awesome Author - S.J. Hartland

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an Australian journalist who grew up in north Queensland. It’s laid-back, cyclone-central tropical country. I now call the Darling Downs home. In comparison, it’s high up and cold, which is tricky for a north Queenslander who thinks it’s the new ice age when it drops below 30 degrees Celsius.
I’m also a fencer, which is useful for all those sword fights in epic fantasy. Can you have two many sword fights? Surely not.
The 19th Bladesman was my first published novel, though there are some practice ones in the computer version of a drawer.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Last Seer King, the second in the Shadow Sword series, should be out very soon. Beneath the sword fights, the dark plots, dark magic and the machinations of the gods, it’s at its heart about the redemption found in swordplay.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wish I could say I only write when there is a full moon or something equally peculiar. However, as a journalist, I try to snatch every spare moment for writing whenever I can.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I fell in love with fantasy through the Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. Then as a teenager, the world-building in Dune blew my mind.

What are you working on now?
The third in the Shadow Sword series and the first in another series which has a pretty cool premise that I hope I can bring off.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It’s been a combination of websites, reviews and free promotions.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
It’s sounds sort of trite but you really do learn to write by writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write the book that only you can write.

What are you reading now?
The Silent Patient. I’m enjoying it. But if the world was the way I want it to be, Gregg Hurwitz would release an Orphan X book a month to satisfy my need to follow Evan Smoak and live in his world. It’s a cool world and I hate leaving it.
I’ve also just picked up C.S. Pacat’s three short stories that are part of the Captive Prince world.

What’s next for you as a writer?
It’s nerve-racking bringing out a second novel for some reason. I think once The Last Seer King is out, I’ll hide under the bed for a while until it’s safe to come out…
Then onto the third…and the fourth… and the fifth.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Count of Monte Cristo would be one. I lived Edmond Dantes’ journey when I read that book.
The first couple of Orphan X books, too, would be on the list. I was an Evan Smoak fan after the first page of the first book.
Then there’s Rhinegold by Stephan Grundy. It’s a hard book to read because I was shattered by the dark fate awaiting certain characters.
I’d probably miss the Captive Prince series by C.S. Pacat if those books weren’t on the desert island, as well.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a Christian author and tentmaking missionary. My 30 traditionally-published books have sold more than 1.2 million copies worldwide and have been translated into numerous languages.

I write devotionals and bible studies for busy women who want to do what matters with their lives.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Special Blessings Prayer: How to Unleash the Love, Favor & Power of God Upon Your Life — was written over the course of just 10 days while living on a remote island in the South Pacific. I had just endured the worst betrayal of my life and was trying to heal and making sense of what had happened.

The book is based on 1 Samuel 25. Abigail responds to death threats – by speaking blessing over the life of her enemy. As a result, she defuses the conflict and that man, David, later becomes King of Israel. She marries hi and becomes the Queen.

If we want to live a blessed life, we need to learn how to pro-actively bless those who hurt us. When we do, we’ll experience a dimension of the Christian life that few ever really enter into.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write incredibly fast. My #1 best-selling book, Becoming a Vessel God Can Use, was written in 5 days My most recent book was written in 5 days. It rarely takes me more than a couple of weeks to write a full-length book.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Andrew Murray is my favorite author. Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby was a huge influence.

What are you working on now?

Awesome Author - Brad Robertson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Fifty Poems and the Kitchen Sink is my first published work. I’ve always wanted to be a writer, and focused my entire education on getting into as many workshops as I could. Then I got distracted by a day job for a while, and only got back into writing after realizing that I’m just not happy without it.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Fifty Poems and the Kitchen Sink had various inspirations, but was ultimately an exploration of how fun poetry can be when it’s unpredictable. I wanted to go against the standard that all poetry should be about love or heartbreak. Then again, my next collection heavily features heartbreak. Rather hypocritical of me.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Quatrains. For whatever reason, my poetry keeps falling into four line stanzas. It’s an addiction and I need a support group.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I first wanted to be a writer because I was addicted to RL Stine books. That was my gateway drug. My childhood was dominated by things like Goosebumps, Shivers, Where the Sidewalk Ends, Howl’s Moving Castle, the Bartimaeus trilogy, and anything I could find by Edgar Allan Poe. Honestly, I read just about everything I could get my hands on.

What are you working on now?
A second, shorter poetry collection that should be available as an ebook in the next week or so. The big project looming in my background is a fantasy adventure novel following an irresponsible old monster slayer and his jaded apprentice. In a slight turn, it’s the young apprentice that has the dark past in this story.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, I would definitely say Goodreads. It attracts readers and writers like moths to a flame. Joining as many of the larger groups as possible helps with visibility, and it’s interesting enough that I don’t feel like I’m screaming into a void.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes. Avoid my mistakes. Do not invest money in advertising campaigns right away. No one’s heard of you yet, and books are a luxury item. Ads are a gamble and will not be your X factor. Second, arrange for a solid, trustworthy street team to help you get noticed. I didn’t make prerelease arrangements and I’m paying for that mistake now. If you’re not going the self-published route, then just make sure you get an agent first, publisher second.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I’m paraphrasing but one of my old professors said, “If you can do anything else, don’t be a writer. Do the other thing first. Writers walk around waiting for something to break them down so they can write about it.” It sounds harsh but I really feel that advice now. This field is not as glamorous as the pros make it look, and the initial shock of that can wear you down hard.

What are you reading now?
I recently read through Black Book of Poetry while I was researching the best sellers and I highly recommend it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I wish I could say a vacation, but really I need to keep promoting and working on my in progress fantasy novel and hoping something sticks. New authors don’t get breaks, ever. You can expect to see a swarm of poems and short stories from me in the coming months.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the thickest anthology of Edgar Allan Poe’s work I can find, and a collection of Gothic literature. My fourth book would be an empty one, if I’m allowed to bring a pen.

Awesome Author - Daniel Green

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a writer, speaker, blogger, and the founder of Anakainoo International. My passion is to help you and those who are frustrated with what religion has to offer and show you how to have face-to-face encounters with God every day to experience an abundant life where signs, wonders, and miracles become an everyday normal experience for you. It is my desire to help pursuers of God discover how to have a real tangible relationship with God and follow Him everywhere, just like Jesus did. Then you can experience all the wonders and miracles from Heaven following you and fulfill all the desires of your heart.

I have written several books including: The Supernatural Wave of God’s Presence; Does God Want You to Be Rich?; Tearing Down Weak Foundations that Hinder You; and Become Like Little Children. I have a Master’s of Ministry Degree and a Business Degree with over thirty-five years’ experience in business and ministry which included owning two very successful accounting businesses.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Supernatural Wave of God’s Presence: You Can Experience Miracles Every Day by Pursuing God’s Presence. After 30 years of ministering in the Church, I realized I wanted more than what the Church experience had to offer. I wanted to do the miracles that Jesus did and even greater things. I discovered that the reason why Jesus was able to perform such great miracles every day was not because He used His abilities as God but rather that He followed and did everything God the Father was doing and saying. Jesus wanted to show us that any child of God could do what He did. I tested this out and started pursuing God everywhere following everything He told me to do. One of my first experiences was when I spoke at a Church and asked anyone who needed prayer to meet me after the service. Just about everyone accepted my offer for healing and restoration. About eighty people came forward to receive healing and everyone got healed miraculously – just as Jesus did. Since then it has been my every day normal experience to expect the miraculous when I follow God’s lead all the time. I want to show as many people as possible how they can do the things Jesus did and even greater things and how to hear God’s voice clearly so they can follow Him everywhere.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write from my passion and experiences. After about a year or so of hearing and following God’s voice, I like to write about the new truths I have discovered so that others can experience the same things I am experiencing to have a dynamic tangible relationship with the Father (God).

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Bill Johnson, Randy Clark, Heidi & Rolland Baker, Dr. Rice’s book on Prayer

What are you working on now?
There Are No Bibles In Heaven – Have you ever thought about what it was like in Heaven? This book will first take you on a journey to Heaven through other’s near death experiences to see what your relationship with God is going to be like. Then you will continue your journey through time to see that God has always wanted to have a close personal relationship with all His children. But in the 4th century, that kind of relationship was hindered greatly. This book is about having the same kind of relationship with God here on earth that we will in Heaven and the reason why most do not experience that kind of intimacy with the Father. It will hopefully be available some time early next year in 2020.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I follow a lot of Dave Chesson’s advise on Kindlepreneur.com. I focus mostly on Amazon Marketing, using social media (facebook, twitter, instagram), as well as putting my book on as many free or low cost book promoter sites as possible (Kindlepreneur.com has a great list of Free and Paid Book promotion sites).

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up on your passion and write what you love. Your writing will always be much deeper and your readers want to read more of your books. Understand your audience, yes. But, don’t dilute your writing so much to appeal to the masses that it becomes empty without very little substance. It would be better to narrow your niche close to your passions and your readers will respond in kind.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My mom often said, “Do whatever Jesus tells you to do.” She was referring to the time when Jesus was at a wedding and they ran out of wine to serve. Mary, His mom, asked Jesus to help get more wine. Then she turned to the servers and said, “Do whatever He tells you to do.” I think the best part of this story was not that Jesus turned water into wine but that the servants personally participated in this miraculous event. It happened only because they did exactly what Jesus told them to do even though his instructions seemed absurd.

What are you reading now?
Many books on the history of the early Church especially in the first three centuries of Christianity.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To publish all my books and Amazon and other places, and to finish the book I am working. It could potentially have a dramatic impact on how many people relate to God.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Many blank journals and enough pens to make sure I write down everything God wants to tell me.

Awesome Author - Annelies George

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in the Netherlands and raised in a small town called ‘Bussum’ situated only 20 minutes away from Amsterdam. Already in my youth I wrote short stories with my two year older sister, Marianne. We were given a selection of postcards displaying beautiful places across the globe, triggering our imagination. In later years I picked up writing again while working as managing director for the Benelux branch of a US based finance company. At the end of each day I summarized by email my everyday activities, including anecdotes about my interaction with businessmen. My PA always had a good laugh about it. She advised me to write down my experiences. Over a period of ten years I managed to finish my first semi-autobiographic fiction book, describing these encounters. I did this after working hours and I was quite relieved when the job was done. Unfortunately I decided not to publish that specific book (Nice Doing Business With You Ma’am) since it required a substantial rewrite due to some unexpected circumstances. At the time, I felt not very motivated to start re-writing it given the fact it already took me 10 years to produce the current version! The story of a psychic combined with the climate changes around the globe and some further investigation in both area’s put me back to writing; that was the beginning of the Jessie Golden Earth Series with 3 parts completed in the series, i.e., Quest to the Unknown (part 1), Darkness and Light (part 2) and The Prophecy: the seven disasters before the Apocalypse (part 3). Part 1 and 2 (18th July, 2019) are published. I still work full time by the way as a development and operations director for an international French IT Finance and Services company.
Apart from these fiction books I completed a non-fiction work which I am currently editing to make it more accessible to read (Learn To Understand Your Original Self).

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Darkness and Light, part 2 in the Jessie Golden Earth Series will be released on July 18th, 2019. I took my inspiration from the current situation in the world, combined with the metaphorical meaning of darkness and light in the broadest sense of the word. When writing the book I reflected on something I wrote. This resulted in the start of Loveable Light, a personal initiative, centered around the beautiful light we all harbor within called Love. The ultimate aim is to create more positive energy around the globe.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I am aware of. Usually the story is unfolding in my head and when I feel I am ready to start I sit down and begin to write. Sometimes I can’t finish and continue until the early morning. I think that I am very lucky I don’t need much sleep at night. This allows me to continue writing after my regular working hours.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The first book I really felt in love with was The Other Side of Midnight by Sidney Sheldon. I was in my early teens when I was introduced to his work and have been a great fan ever since. The themes he used such as intrigues, betrayal, passionate love and hatred combined with female heroines influenced my writing a lot.

What are you working on now?
I am working on three books in parallel! First of all The Prophecy, part 4 in the Jessie Golden Earth Series. Secondly another fiction book based on internet dating and the dangers it can entail (Unpredictable Affairs) and last but not least the final editing of my non-fiction work (Learn To Understand Your Original Self)

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
We use a suite of promotion activities such as Facebook, Instagram, my Website, Amazon, other book promotion sites and radio interviews among other activities.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write that book, get it edited and published! Today there are many ways to get your book in front of a large audience.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give a thing about what other people say, but rely on what your mind is telling you to do. Especially when it comes to writing you have to keep a level head particularly when the first reviews appear and/or people tell you the book is ‘not what the current audience is looking for’.

What are you reading now?
I can’t read fiction novels as long as I am still writing myself. Therefore, the last book I read was a travel guide relating to Israel and a book explaining how to paint watercolors.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I first need to finish the two remaining parts in the Jessie Golden Earth Series as well as the other fiction book and translate it into English, which is also the case for the non-fiction book. Then I would like to finish the very first book I wrote about my business encounters with men. Furthermore I have some ideas relating to another non-fiction book…..so, enough inspiration to keep me going for the next years to come.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well, I guess a few practical books with my old time favorite: 1) How to survive on a deserted island for dummies? 2) Plants you can eat to survive in the wild and 3)The Other Side of Midnight (to remember me of the world of intrigues, passion and love!)

Awesome Author - Amere Dozier

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Well um my name is Amere Dozier. I’m from South Bend, Indiana. I grew up on the northside of town in some apartments with my mom and little siblings. Got a lot of my story ideas from South Bend. I have 4 books out as of right now.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Bandit Boyz 2 was just released like a few weeks ago. I’m currently on tour right now for it. A lot of things I seen growing up is what inspired the entire Bandit Boyz series.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know for sure. I wouldn’t know what to consider unusual but I mean I don’t know for sure man.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Growing up I would read the Bluford series and as I got older I started to lean on authors like Jaquavis Coleman and Kwan Foye. I liked all types of books growing up though. I wouldn’t consider them as influences but they taught me a lot for sure.

What are you working on now?
I have some work already finished like ready to be edited and released so I’m not necessarily working on anything right now because everything is done. With Bandit Boyz 2 just being released I have just been focusing on touring and promoting.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I write for people around the same age as me and you mostly see 20 year old on social media. So Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter are big ways to promote for me. But appearances and signings are great because you’re actually face to face with the reader.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I mean I’m new to the game myself but I would say to just focus on your craft and never give up. When I released my first book ever it had typos and all. I had to save as much as I could to pay for an editor. I had people who bought the unedited version tell me to just give it up but I stayed focused and now I’m four books in.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Expect the unexpected before you expect anything”. The reason why this is good advice is because let’s say you have a friend that stabs you in the back or turns on you. That would hurt right? Not if you expected it. You can’t be surprised by anything it is what it is.

What are you reading now?
Epic by Ashley Antoinette. She did her thing in this.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Well I am almost complete with my first goal as a writer. I had a goal to release 5 books in the span of 3 years. It’s been one and some change and I already have 4 out. I hope to turn the Bandit Boyz into a tv series of some type someday though so if you know anybody who is good in that world you should send them my way.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well first off a Bible because Lord knows I’d need that since I’m stranded. Other than that um I would take “No Way Out” by Peggy Kern because I grew up on that I can read that everyday, all day. I’d take “The streets have No King” by Jaquavis Coleman. And um…”The richest man in Babylon” by George Clason.

Awesome Author - Jana Louise Smit

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started my first epic when I was twelve years old. Years later, that manuscript is still in a box somewhere. I’ve completed one book recently, my first, and am working on the second. Maybe the third will be the boxed epic!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
It’s called The Silverblue Butterfly. I have always liked the idea of genies doling out wishing. However, I wanted this one – the butterfly – to be different. He’s kind of an anti-genie. While he does give you your wish, he does his best to make it a wasteful one.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have a lucky dinosaur. It’s one of those rubber jobs that cling to the back of a pen. I stick it on every pen I use to write my books. Apart from that, I’m disappointingly normal. Sigh.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Without sucking up, I can honestly say that Orson Scott Card is my idol. I once borrowed a book authored by him from the library. It was a collection of short stories. I have to say, it was the succinct mastery of the words, the remarkable descriptions and original stories he wove that sparked my desire to be a better writer.

What are you working on now?
It’s a complete change from The Silverblue Butterfly. It’s not in the children’s genre for one. I’ve decided to test the waters in fantasy, but the gritty kind that almost seems real. The book I’m working on now details the trouble, physically and mentally, that can happen when a man takes the law into his own hands. It’s a vigilante story but without the Hollywood glitter.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have to be honest, I’m very new at book promotion. So far, I’d have to give thumbs up to Awesome Gang and Amazon.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
One rule – if the book doesn’t excite you, it won’t encourage you to work on it every day, nor will the readers like it. However, if you can find a story idea that makes you excited and you can create plot twists that make your heart beat faster, the same will happen for your readers.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That fear is normal. Many writers are paralyzed by fear. They dread the competition, that they are not good enough, that they cannot seem to complete the book fast enough and that they might never be successful. Since writing is a solitary project, we often feel left behind, seeing the success of other authors. The best advice I ever heard was that nearly every writer is scared of these things and that it’s not just me. That got me to stop procrastinating and write more.

What are you reading now?
I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To dip my toe in the genre of gritty fantasy and make it my own. I’m dedicated to becoming a full-fledged author in this sector so there’s a lot of hard work ahead.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
They’d all be empty notebooks. Books are books, right? Wink wink. Getting stranded on a desert island is a perfect distraction-free environment to write your next book. So definitely empty notebooks. Big ones.
