Awesome Author - Alicia F Griffin

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am Alicia F. Griffin, inspirational influencer and now author. Recently, I began my spiritual journey to acquire peace and a closer relationship with my God. The journey has been challenging and rewarding. I wanted to share my processes with people who may be spiritually lost or blinded and need to find their spiritual peace.

Our thoughts are powerful. Our thoughts are the largest spiritual battlefield. As a financial controller for many years, I recently realized that we can transform key financial processes and procedures into our spirituality. I walk you through the process of transformation and application on how to make spiritual investments in our daily lives to spiritually change our behavior and thinking.

Studies have shown that if we are able to resolve spiritual struggles over time, we would be able to grow, spiritual maturity. My goal is to again, walk you through the process of transformation and application to help you be spiritually peaceful and grow, spiritual maturity. I believe in my spiritual processes because I also apply the same processes in my life daily.

I am passionate about advocating for mental health. Our society has many distractions and corruptions, with the mentality of “to prey or to be preyed”. There are not enough resources or simple techniques offered or available. Inspired people, inspires people.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Makings of Our Spiritual Blueprint is my first and latest book. It is a short read, but impactful information about how to transform key financial processes and procedures into our spiritual portfolio.

Awesome Author - Christine Reynebeau

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 28 years old, work in youth development for non-profits and have a degree in Animal Science. I started publishing with a vanity press, long before I understood what one was, because it had always been a dream of mine. Since 2014 when I published “PB & J”, I have published another 4 books, including my newest, to be release 23 April 2019.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled, “Celebrate”. It was inspired by a neighbor who mentioned that there are few great options for flower girl and ring bearer gifts when planning a wedding, that a Children’s Book would be a great idea. I will only write & publish a book that teaches life values and morals, so the story explains how weddings work to kids, as well as teaching about the love that weddings are celebrating and why it is important to celebrate love.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I think my most unusual writing habit is to bribe myself when I’m not motivated. I’ll buy my favorite candies and get one piece per page written. Other than that, I would say, I tend to do most of my work at my coffee table, despite the fact that I have an office space 5 feet away!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I always loved Kevin Henke growing up, but as I got older, I found such inspiration from Dr. Suess. I started collecting Dr. Suess books from thrift store when I was 25. I appreciate that his books were always fun, but they have lessons that lasted and can positively impact people of all ages. That is a great legacy.

What are you working on now?
Right now, I am working on expanding my business. I did have the intent to publish my sixth book this year, and still may, but I need to focus on expanding how I help new authors and how I grow my publishing business to a stronger point of sustainability.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have leaned really heavily on social media, but as I set to launch my newest book, I am really digging in to sites, like Awesome Gang. What is great about sites like this is that your budget can be supported in many ways. I appreciate that there are Free options and paid options. The other site I really enjoy in Discount Book Man. Again, very supportive of Author budgets.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
You don’t have to do it all perfect to make it happen. I feel like I run across a lot of people who will tell new authors that there is ONE right way to get published and be successful, but that simply isn’t true. Learn as you go, keep trying, and know your why, why did it matter to publish in the first place. It isn’t for the weak of heart, but if you can give it the love and attention required, no matter what your success looks like, it will be worth it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just try one more thing.

I was about to stop publishing and my sister told me to just try one more thing and keep trying. And she was right. You never know what one next thing is going to make the difference, and it took me time to find it, but one thing at a time. Just try one more thing.

What are you reading now?
I am reading “Bad Omens” so that I can watch the series coming out with my boyfriend. I am gearing up to read H3 Leadership: Humble, Hungry, Hustle soon.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am hoping to get a Kickstarter set up this year, crowd fund investors and grow my overall publishing business. So, stay tuned. And if that falls apart, Book #6 will make its way to the bookshelves near you!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Feast of Love (Baxter), No Place Like Here (Ahern), The Last Lecture (Pausch), and Oh, the Thinks you can Think! (Dr. Suess!

Awesome Author - Sue White

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Ms. White has four earned degrees including a Masters in Theological Studies and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy.

She relates to the skeptics of the world – those who need to ask questions and challenge the status quo in order to find the truth. (Her favorite disciple is Thomas, otherwise known as “Doubting Thomas”).

She currently leads a small group Bible Study for people in her neighborhood. Her background allows her to draw insights from multiple disciplines and to integrate them into a cohesive whole.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Prodigal’s Wilderness: When the “Wrong” Path Really Is the Right Path

This book is based on a paper I wrote when I was in seminary, but a lot has transpired in my life since I wrote that paper.

It’s been a difficult journey for me – one filled with lots of health challenges, multiple job changes, and several relocations.

But the experiences I had while on my journey and my own personal “wilderness experiences” have taught me many important life lessons.

I have always been the studious type, a “bookworm;” I’m a lifelong learner, and I have an eclectic background.

Over the years, I have acquired four earned degrees including a Masters in Theological Studies and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy.

I studied psychology because I like to figure out “what makes people tick”. (I had planned to become a psychotherapist – until a serious illness derailed that plan.)

I relate to the skeptics of the world – those who need to ask
questions and challenge the status quo in order to find the truth.

My favorite disciple is Thomas, otherwise known as “Doubting Thomas”.

I remember, as a child, asking questions in Sunday school, but seldom receiving answers that satisfied me. Eventually, God sent me to seminary so that I could learn to search out Scriptural answers for myself.

I currently lead a small group Bible Study for people in my
neighborhood.

My background allows me to draw insights from multiple disciplines and to integrate them into a cohesive whole.

I’m the kind of person who sees patterns and looks for the “big picture”.

I take a holistic view and try to put all the pieces together into a coherent whole, and I love to incorporate different types of media to make the material more easily understood.

When I’m teaching, I love having people ask lots of questions. I
find that people learn best when they’re engaged and asking questions increases engagement.

I especially welcome the skeptic (the one who is honestly searching but just not convinced) to join in wholeheartedly
with the discussions.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write a lot at night – when most people are sleeping.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Timothy Keller – the Prodigal God
Kenneth Bailey – Finding the Lost Cultural Keys to Luke 15 & Jacob & the Prodigal: How Jesus Retold Israel’s Story
Henri Nouwen – The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming
L. William Countryman – Dirt, Greed, and Sex: Sexual Ethics in the New Testament and Their Implications for Today

What are you working on now?
A Study Guide for The Prodigal’s Wilderness book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon – using KDP Select right now.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be persistent and don’t let any of life’s little obstacles prevent you from completing your book!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be true to myself.

What are you reading now?
I read several books at the same time:

I Knew You – Elizabeth Harvery
A number of mystery novels … too many to list
Books about writing and self-publishing

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m trying to hone my marketing skills.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible would be #1 for sure!

Probably a survival guide of some sort – how to find food, create shelter, etc.

A first aid book

Awesome Author - Noah Michael

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been weaving stories ever since I could talk. I was the kid in the back of the classroom, spacing out during class out the window, watching dragons and goblins wage war in the school playground. Never able to sit still and always the day-dreamer, I wrote my first novel in elementary school, then completed this work at the age of sixteen. In my spare time, I received a degree in bio-medical engineering, and am currently writing my way through medical school! I already have most of the series written, and have begun two other books series as well! My other hobbies include playing the piano, writing music, and singing.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is title The Nexus Mirror. It all started when I was spacing out in physics class. While the class was discussing wave motion, I was sitting there thinking about a device which could stop all sound by emitting an equal and opposite sound wave. Then I started thinking about what abilities someone would have if they could control sound waves. From there the world building began, and the idea just kept growing and developing.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Almost all of my ideas were conceived while on a jog. I don’t run with music. Instead, my creative energies go wild, and I see the world around me change to one of fantasy. I get quite the speed boost when I see a nasty demon on my tail!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been influenced by many fantasy books with multiple main characters. I found the change in POV refreshing and exciting, and tried to apply that to my works.

What are you working on now?
Trying to finish up Chronicles of the Enlai, as well as another hard-core sci-fi series, and a more fantasy-based series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Be open to anything and everything, and always ask for advice.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. Never take no for an answer.
When there is a will, there is a way.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
As I said before, when there is a will, there is a way. If you want something badly enough, then decide from the get-go that you will accomplish it. Believing in yourself is half the battle.

What are you reading now?
Besides for medical textbooks, I’m in the middle of the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To finish this series, and then move onto the next! The worlds are limitless!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
First of all, a desert survival guide of course. For entertainment purposes though, I would take Name of the Wind. That book is pure genius.

Awesome Author - Dan Henk

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started out wanting to be a comic artist, even attending art school and shortly afterwords moving to New York. Interviews with DC and Marvel Comics made me realize how restrictive they were, and I came to the realization that I would have much more control if I wrote illustrated novels. Coincidentally, I’ve done illustrations for comics and magazines now that it’s no longer my priority, but that’s another story.
The End of the World is my third novel, published by Crossroad Press.
The Black Seas of Infinity was my first, in 2014 Splatterpunk released a signed and numbered chapbook featuring my story Christmas is Cancelled, and shortly afterword, Permuted Press both reissued my first novel, and published my second Down Highways in the Dark…By Demons Driven.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel is entitled The End of the World. It’s a loose sequel to my first book The Black Seas of Infinity, kind of in the same way Road Warrior is a sequel to Mad Max (namely, you can enjoy the sequel without needing to read the first book).
Everything I write takes place in roughly the same universe, a concept I enjoyed in comics and books as a child, and this is a further expansion of the apocalyptic ideas I’ve been developing over the decades.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I often write at night, after the sun goes down, and whenever I stumble across a writer’s block and am unsure how to proceed, I put the work aside. Going for a run or bike ride recharges my batteries and never fails to help me think up the next plot development.
Even if I don’t immediately return to writing, I record notes of my new ideas in my phone.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
HP Lovecraft is my single biggest influence on style and mood, while John Steinbeck greatly sculpted my descriptive tendencies.
I read everyday, and we didn’t even have a TV in my household for much of my childhood. I’ve read thousands of books, so it’s hard to narrow down my influences. Almost any of the early work of Alan Moore, Dune by Frank Herbert, Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson, and Philip K. Dick were all early influences.

What are you working on now?
I just completed a short story entitled “Watching The World Burn”, and I’m debating on whether to delve into my new novel yet, or let loose on a few short stories first.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
To be honest, social media (like Facebook or Instagram) and attending as many conventions as you can.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Dive into the waters right away and test yourself!
Take advice from other authors, and fill yourself with mental notes by reading other author’s work. Don’t expect your first effort to be a masterpiece, but don’t make excuses and put less than 100% in it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Have friends read it and give you feedback on what elements they like and how the story flows. If you know any authors, try and rope them into reading your book, ask for feedback, and actually listen to it when given.

What are you reading now?
Ringworld. It’s alright, but after reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman right before, my standards have been set a little high.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m always thinking of where I want to go for a sequel. I feel dedicated to the world I’m constructing, and really hesitant to step aside from it into anything unrelated

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That would be a difficult one.
I’d be tempted to bring all new work, but once those were read, if none were that great, I’d regret my choice!
So I’ll stick with 4 of my favorites.
I have a compilation of everything written by HP Lovecraft. That might be a cop out as far as choosing a single book, but I’ll take what I can get! I also have a similar volume encompassing the work of HG Wells, and another of the collected stories of Sherlock Holmes.
That aside, I’d need some art as well, so the best comic ever written, Watchmen, would be my likely choice.

Awesome Author - Gary Plowman

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Two at present – the other is a coding book based around retro coding.
I also have numerous short stories and I am in the middle of writing another book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Micro Kids: An 80s Adventure – it’s about a bunch of kids that form a bond over their love of micro computing. They all start at a new school and there are some of the usual challenges there – bullies etc.
However, they also form a computer club to enjoy their interests in computing etc.

The book is fictional, but many of the plot ideas are based around real events and real people I grew up with.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know – but I like working to a deadline. If I set a deadline I like to push myself to meet it – it helps get the writing down on the page.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I like a lot of authors. My favourites would be Steinbeck, Stephen King, Harper Lee and Tolkien.
More recently, I enjoyed Ernest Cline’s and Andy Weir’s books; both of whom had huge success from out of nowhere.
I really enjoy Neil Gaiman’s books too.

I took some inspiration from Jordan Mechner’s “Making Of Karateka” and Sue Townsend’s The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 and 3/4s.

What are you working on now?
I am working on another story about Classic Arcade gaming in the USA.
With some inspiration taken from the 80s show – Whiz Kids and other ideas.

I also have a couple of Science Ficition ideas I am working on too.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like twitter for instant word-of-mouth effect and for teasing out cover options.
Some facebook groups can work well too, but I am discovering new ways every day.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write first and worry about grammar second.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write as if you are telling someone a story in your own words – then remove the unnecessary words.

What are you reading now?
Just finished Andy Weir’s Artemis – It was a lot of fun and reminded me of Arthur C Clark in parts.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue promoting The Micro Kids, but also get my other gaming book finished. I have been asked if I have a sequel planned for The Micro Kids; that depends on how well it sells.

I am also about the launch the Audiobook version of The Micro Kids on Audible. So I am excited about that!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
To Kill A Mocking Bird – read many times – never gets boring.
Salem’s Lot – a good scary tale, with great characters and possibly the best modern-day vampire tale ever.
Ready Player One – for a geek fix.
Lord of the Rings – read it as a kid, loved it, and need to re-read it.

Awesome Author - Angela Mullins

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Working for Uncle Henry is my first book, but this is the second time I’ve written it.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The three main characters of Working for Uncle Henry came to me in a dream. The female in the dream was actually an old school friend named Jennifer, so I kept the name and changed most everything else.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
No hesitation here. Without a doubt Agatha Christie. I absolutely love her characters, settings, plots, everything. And I have to collection to prove it.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on the prequel to Working for Uncle Henry. It begins in 1940 with Samuel Archer at the age of twenty and follows him the rest of his life.

What are you reading now?
Most of my reading is research — anything from WW2 spies to con jobs. But I always love a cozy mystery. That’s my unwind reading.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible and Agatha Christie.

Awesome Author - Tammy Ruggles

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write fiction and non-fiction Kindle books for Amazon, but have also had non-fiction articles, short stories, and photography published in print publications and online.

I am retired from creating now, just basically spend my time promoting or giving interviews when asked.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest, and final, is a crime drama novel called Starsky and Hutch Next Gen Series, Episodes 1-8. It’s a big what-if concept about the sons of Starsky and Hutch and their lives/cases as detectives.

Their names are Davis Starsky and Kent Hutchinson, and they live dramatic, dangerous, and angsty lives, but the original characters/detectives never appear in the book, for copyright reasons.

Davis and Kent are unique characters, and this book is a transformative work not endorsed by the Starsky and Hutch rights holders.

What inspired it is my fondness for the TV show and wondering what it would be like if Starsky and Hutch had sons that were detectives too.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, nothing unusual, except that maybe I write TOO much, in long stretches. Once I start a book, story, or article, I don’t stop until I finish it. This keeps the flow going. I’m one of the fortunate ones that never has writer’s block, and tons of ideas.

I should say all of this in the past tense, since this is my last book.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Cormac McCarthy, Peter Benchley, Harold Robbins. I go for the sparse, descriptive style that keeps the story and characters moving along. I can do longer, reflective passages, but tend to keep those to a minimum, unless they’re necessary to the plot or character.

What are you working on now?
Nothing. Starsky and Hutch Next Gen is my last book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t really have one, but am having fun finding out. Awesome Gang seems to be a good place to start.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, don’t give up on getting published, and send out lots of query letters. I would also add, don’t just talk about writing. Instead, write. Another piece of advice is don’t try to write like other people. Just write the way that comes naturally to you, and that will be your style.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up.

What are you reading now?
Nothing right now. I listen to audiobooks once in a while.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Nothing as a writer, just guest blogging or interviews as a former writer.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The King James Bible. The Road. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Chalou.

Awesome Author - Om Khairate

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 18 years old and I have been writing for a long time but this is the first one to get published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is ‘ Our time in the sun..’ and it was I guess inspired by the dystopian culture that has been growing right now.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I like to start writing from the end, basically the entire story is based around the ending.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
J. R. R. Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, H. G. Wells, there are many more but Lord of the rings is a personal favourite.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on another scifi, it is a bit confusing and has plenty of twists, you wouldn’t know what got you.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Well, just keep writing, and finish what you start.

Awesome Author - Zach Brodsky

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve spent most of my 20s and 30s travelling and working various jobs and people watching. There’s nothing like finding a good spot with a coffee and watching the world go by. Having written previously for online travel websites, food reviews, and some sports analysis I have just published my first novel ‘Bangkok Delusions’ in 2019. I hope to have a follow up book, or 2 out by the end of 2019.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
‘Bangkok Delusions’ – was inspired by spending years living in Bangkok and forever being amazed at what goes on there. You can learn a lot by buying a beer and just watching what goes on. I hope that Bangkok Delusions will start to scratch below the superficial and my follow up novels will explore some topics deeper, as well as keeping plenty of humour and escapism in!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well, I write everything by hand in nice large notebooks. I think most authors use computers these days. I find I flow much more if I can scrawl on a page, sometime theatrically. The problems arise when I think have to read back and type up, I often can’t read my own handwriting. It also serves as an immediate 2nd draft though, which helps.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to really mention. When I was younger I loved Thomas Hardy – The Mayor of Casterbridge was one of the first books that I really was amazed by. Hardy’s themes are still valid and still controversial today.
I also love Paul Auster, Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen’s books are hilarious and I think Bangkok has as much bizarre zaniness as Florida!
Yukio Mishima wrote some wonderful books (The Sailor who Fell From Grace with the Sea is my favourite), and lived an interesting life.
In the crime genre Arnaldour Indridasson is another favourite, with his Icelandic Noir, and John Grisham/ Harlen Coben types are great for holiday reads.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a follow up to Bangkok Delusions – focusing on one of the lead characters on a path to redemption. It will include some more bizarre characters but be a bit more on the humourous side than gritty urban reality!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As a relatively new author – I have a lot to learn still!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just go for it, if you enjoy writing, write. I started writing a novel as a hobby and I love sitting down and letting the pen flow. So keep writing about things you are interested in and enjoy.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A great friend once said “No-one ever said on their death bed I wish I’d worked more” (in the context of a traditional 9 to 5 job that is!)

What are you reading now?
I am churning my way through John Grisham’s latest – The Rooster Bar. Not read a Grisham for a while and I’m having a week at the beach so it’s perfect!

What’s next for you as a writer?
My follow up novel will also be the start of a series which I hope will entertain.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
To Kill a Mockingbird – one of those rare books I enjoyed reading at school!
Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard it’s gritty but also feel good.
The Guinness Book of World Records – plenty of entertainment and as a kid I was obsessed with looking for oddities!
A thick anthology of William Trevor’s short stories.

Awesome Author - Ronnie Brait

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
For years I had lived with a conflict in my soul. I served as a soldier while I all I wished for was peace in the world. My protective skills are very strong and I joined the military for that reason, but then I realized I could serve people a better and much more peaceful way.
So I started writing about the topic I believe can change the world: Romantic love.
So far, I wrote six books and three of them are published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book’s title is Passionate Promise. This is the third part of the Passionate Series.
In this novel, my leading characters learn whether the love bond is weak or strong between them after a questionable mistake.
What inspired this novel? It’s easy to love someone who is perfect for us. But people are rarely perfect. We all make mistakes sometimes. In some cases, the decisions we make are different from the expectations of others. My question is: What do you do then?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t call it unusual. When I start writing and I’m in the flow, I write day and night. Sometimes without sleep. When I finally go to bed, I can’t wait for the morning to come. So I can continue.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Where Eagles Dare and The Guns of Navarone by Alistair MacLean. You might be surprised now. These books’ genre is far from romance. Basically, you are right. I still disagree. Loyalty is one of the most desired human values we look for in romance as well.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on the fourth part of the Passionate Series. Its title isn’t fixed yet, though the story has been finished a while ago. I might ask for the readers’ help to make a decision about it.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
To be honest, I cannot name the best method since I’m at the beginning of the promotion journey. Awesome Gang seems to be a great place. My website RonnieBrait.com helps a lot in the promotion.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep on working and trust your gut feeling. No matter how hard it seems, take only one step at a time. Just one step. Focus on the very next step you have to take to reach your goal and ain’t no mountain high enough.
If you do it for the money exclusively, you might be disappointed. Writing stories is a service. Every service needs time to get respected and appreciated.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Ask and accept advice only from people who have already reached their goal in your niche.
Do not waste your time on marketing gurus if you want to be a surgeon.

What are you reading now?
King Lear by William Shakespeare. I like reading off-topic books and reread classical literature.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I keep on writing about the life of Oin and Temy until their love needs to be told. I like their values and principles along with their difficulties. I am curious myself too, where the love bond they share might lead us.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well, that’s a good question. I haven’t read about the religion Shinto yet but would like to know it better. A collection of inspiring stories, like Chicken Soup for the Soul by Jack Canfield. Lastly, I would bring an Astronomical Almanac and would admire the stars during my lonely nights. Besides, I would be in the clouds, daydreaming about the love I created for my heroes. I would never be bored.

Awesome Author - M. Naidoo

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
So far, I have written two books (and a bunch of screenplays).
My debut novel, “THE PELICAN”, was released in 2017.
It touches a sensitive subject and goes into the uncomfortable territory of respect, compassion and one’s right to choose how to live out one’s life.
Julia, the main character, is diagnosed with late stage cancer. Having watched her mother fight and fade away over the course of 11 years, she decides to refuse treatment, a step her family would not agree with, much less accept. She does the only thing that makes sense to her – she packs up and runs, without a word or explanation. A controversial, very emotional read. If that’s your sort of thing, get out the tissue boxes.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“WHERE SLEEPING LIES LIE” has just been released.
It’s a romantic suspense novel full of surprise twists and revelations set in Germany. The main character is a German expat who finds herself digging into her family’s past back in a country she has next to no conscious memory of.
Having been born and raised in Germany I was able to draw on my own experiences revisiting childhood memories. The historical events are factual and most of the settings
actually exist in one form or another. The story itself, although entirely fictional, has been inspired by my grandmother who lived through two world wars and their aftermaths. I have always gobbled up her stories of back when she was young and wanted to recreate life as it was for a woman back in the early 19th century.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Depends on the definition of ‘unusual’. I guess for a writer, pretty much anything that keeps the words flowing goes. I work best late at night or early in the morning when everyone in the house is sleeping. I have to have a cup of tea, even though I’ll never get to finish it while it is still warm, let alone hot. My favorite writing buddy is Charlie, a little scruffy terrier mix. He hangs out on my lap with his head on the desk and watches me type until he dozes off and snores.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
That’s a tough one. I’d say Jodi Picoult, in terms of style.
Her way of switching points of view from chapter to chapter having the characters tell the different sides of a story really resonated with me. She is not afraid to touch the most sensitive topics.
J.K. Rowling’s way of foreshadowing events and planting Easter eggs to reveal later doesn’t just work for young readers.
I love Dan Brown’s complex problem-solving and Stephen King’s way of building tension and suspense.
Wally Lamb’s deep and multi-faceted characters and their unique voices are something to aspire to.
These were just of the top of my head, I could go on and on…

What are you working on now?
I’m still in the middle of marketing my recent release and I’m enjoying that process.
Not sure how long I can sit still though.. I already have the next story bouncing around in my head…

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use social media, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
There are so many promo sites out there for different genres and with different requirements. If anyone is interested which ones I used, feel free to message me through social media. I also had two blog tours running, as well as ads on Amazon and Bookbub.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Market and research all the avenues open to you. It’s intimidating, but an absolute necessity.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“The first draft sucks!” and it’s perfectly okay.
Don’t worry about it being amazing. Just get that first draft down on paper. Allow yourself to make mistakes and resist the urge to keep going back to fix it there and then.
There will be a lot of changing, deleting and editing, but you won’t have anything to mold into the perfect paragraph if you don’t start writing.

What are you reading now?
I haven’t had much time to pick up a physical book so I’ve just signed up with Audible. I’ve downloaded a few novels, and am looking forward to pressing ‘PLAY’ soon.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully growing my readership and sharing more of my stories with them.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Depends on what mood I am in at that point.
Erich Segal’s ‘Love Story’. Less than 200 pages but just as much subtext between the lines. The book is so much better than the movie by the way.
‘Don’t Let Me Go’ by Catherine Ryan Hyde, brilliant characters who I like to spend time with again and again. And of course any of the classics.

Awesome Author - Alex Newsletter

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Alex. I’m 26 and was born in Belgium. I decided to quit my job the day after Valentine’s day to pursue my goals, which was becoming a bestselling author on Amazon and getting my fight career launched. I’m living that life right now in Koh Phangan (Thailand). I’ve written 2 books so far but only my second book is available on Amazon (for now).

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The title of my book is: “The Year Of The Alpha: 366 Lessons On Adding Meaning To Your Life”. This book idea was an accident, to be honest. I shared a lot of personal quotes and people started to react to it. I decided to bundle my quotes into a book with the proper explanation.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have weird habits that I know of. I like to shadowbox as a break during writing sessions and I never write without a good cup of coffee.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ryan Holiday and Mark Manson influenced me a lot. Especially Mark Manson because he had a blog post about how he quit his job and became a bestselling author.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m promoting my book and training a lot because I’ll be fighting soon. I try to write blog posts in between training sessions to relax. There are no new book ideas at the moment.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best method is probably contacting people or websites with a large audience. That’s how I got a lot of exposure rather quickly.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep on writing no matter what. My first book release failed drastically because I didn’t promote it properly. I could have quite back then but I didn’t. Right now my second book is doing a lot better. It’s all about not giving up.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Book the ticket, take the trip. I read this quote just before I quit my job and traveled to Thailand. I’ll be staying here for 3 months and it was the best thing that I ever did.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading “The Lost Art Of Discipline” by Chad Howse. I highly recommend this book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Right now I’m focusing on the blog again. There are no new book ideas at the moment because my focus is on fighting right now. We’ll see what happens when I return to Belgium. I might write a book about how I quit my job, traveled to Thailand, became a bestseller on Amazon and got some fights. It sounds like a book that I would read.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Mediations, The Art Of War, The Book Of Five Rings and The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People.
