Awesome Author - Leonide Martin

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
After retiring from a university career, during which I authored a number of textbooks and many articles, I felt drawn to write fiction. I’ve always loved historical fiction and have been a devoted reader since childhood. Since retiring, I’ve written 5 historical fiction books. All are published as both ebooks and paperbacks, between 2006 and 2019.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book is “The Prophetic Mayan Queen: K’inuuw Mat of Palenque.”
I wanted to write a series about ancient Mayan queens, since their culture fascinates me. I lived in Yucatan, Mexico studying them and visiting ancient ruins. Women had important roles, some as rulers or “warrior queens.” These real historic women were the most powerful in the Americas during their time, but almost no one knows about them. The dynasty of the famous Mayan city Palenque had particular emphasis on women rulers and queens. This inspired me to create a fiction series based on their lives. The four books of the “Mists of Palenque” series are about them. This book about K’inuuw Mat is the last in the series. Each book stands alone and tells a complete story of one queen. I was eager to write this book, so the series could be finished and I could bring everything to closure.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write at my computer in the office which I share with my husband. It’s also our TV room and has a high-end audio system. When he’s at his nearby computer, or watching TV or listening to music, you might think I’d get distracted. But, I don’t—I’ve got an uncanny ability to concentrate. When I’m in the world of my novels, the outer world just disappears. Sometimes this annoys my husband, or my cats who rub against my legs trying to get attention. I can leave writing to feed cats, or respond to an urgent question, but I’m immediately immersed again when I return. When traveling, I bring my tablet and can write most anywhere, even with waves lapping on white beaches of Mexico.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Historical fiction was always my favorite to read while growing up. I continue reading this genre and like reading mysteries, especially in archeological settings. As a teen I read lots of Western and space adventures. I read widely and admire many authors. Two in particular influenced my writing. Mary Renault, British born author who moved to the South African Cape, wrote a brilliant historical fiction series set in ancient Greece: The Last of the Wine, The King Must Die, The Bull From the Sea, and others. Her stories transported me to Mycenaean Greece, Crete, and the Aegean Sea region and immersed me in Greek legends and characters. Marion Zimmer-Bradley, American author of historical fantasy, captured my imagination (as well as a large international following) with her amazing novels based on Arthurian legends including Mists of Avalon, The Forest House, Lady of Avalon, and Priestess of Avalon. Her books integrated mythology, mysticism, and history into powerful stories with strong women and Goddess-based spirituality. She was particularly influential through her examples of inter-dimensional plot structures, and the interplay between the everyday world and spiritual domains. I owe both of these women a huge debt of gratitude.

What are you working on now?
I’m an admirer of historical mysteries, such as Elizabeth Peters’ Amelia Peabody series set in early 1900’s Egyptian archeological digs. Now I’m thinking about trying my hand at similar mysteries in the Maya regions in the 1920’s. During this time women had major breakthroughs and opportunities for adventures. It was rampant with juicy archeological happenings such as tomb robbery and artifacts pilfering. My protagonists would be young women cutting loose and exploring different worlds, with an older female archeologist mentor. Writing mysteries (not involving murders) is branching into a new genre for me, and I’ve got lots to learn. I’m still in the conceptual and information gathering phase, and not yet writing the stories.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Mostly I connect with readers through Facebook, Twitter, and my website and blog. I’ve done virtual book tours, where blogger hosts post interviews, book excerpts, reviews, and guest posts by authors. Often I’ll use book promotion websites such as Awesome Gang’s complex to reach additional potential readers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write about what fascinates you, something for which you feel passion. Writers need the “juice” to drive a sustained effort in bringing forth a novel. Learn everything you can about your topic, setting, and time period. Write to satisfy yourself and meet high standards. Always use a good editor!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
History is interpretation. It all depends on your point of view. Perspective colors your understanding of events, so try to be aware of your blind spots.

What are you reading now?
“The Sea Archer (Heaven and Earth Series)” about two very different contemporary people who cross paths in Kauai, only to experience peculiar dreams, and an unbelievable proclamation that they could be the direct descendants of Poseidon and Apollo. Interesting time slip weaving Greek gods/goddesses into the lives and destinies of the pair.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Making choices among several options for my next writing project is up soon. Several ideas are percolating in my mind, everything from narrative non-fiction to mysteries. Stay tuned to seen what develops!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita for their philosophic depth and cosmic worldview.
Shakespeare plays for their endless entertaining plots and characters.
The Popol Vuh for its poetry and cleverness in telling the Maya creation myth.

Awesome Author - Jason Mather

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a resident of Greeley, Colorado, and a graduate of University of Northern Colorado, where I majored in music. I’m a freelance musician, part time welder, and part time kennel worker. I live with my wife Heather, and three dogs: Gizmo, Kaori, and Ellie Mae.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first, and so far only, book is SHADOW LIFE. It’s Science Fiction Noir.

The state of the world in Shadowlife is my take on where our current society could arrive in the near future. There is no intention for it to be either dystopian or utopian. It has simply continued to move on, and bring both the good and the bad with it. There have been some upheavals. The federal government has been reduced to a kind of transit authority between city-states. The city-states are where the power lies, and each city is a power unto itself. They are expected to govern and provide for their populace with only the resources within their own border, or through trade with other city-states. It is not a perfect system. Corruption is still evident, and no city-state can provide for its population perfectly. All citizens are given tracking chips while still in the womb, a situation that has both positive and negative repercussions.

The primary thing that the world of Shadowlife retains is continued human error and imperfection. The world is intended to be a believable evolution of where humanity is today. Technology continues to develop, to both solve and create new issues, and people remain people, completely recognizable to us in this age, but dealing with developments and technologies that have yet to arrive in our time.

Obviously, no one could know where we will actually be in the near future, so any attempt to predict is merely a flight of fantasy on the creator’s part. Any technology presented is simply to further the story and nothing else. The world will move on.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write when I have the time. I tend to pay attention to the dialog, settings and character development.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was inspired by game play, James Bond-esque characters, and Raymond Chandler stories.

What are you working on now?
A new and interesting novel, of course.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I leave that up to my friends at EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read and write. Everyday. Eventually a book will evolve.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Put your bum in the chair and write.

What are you reading now?
A lot of Noir combined with science fiction. My favorite book is Catch 22. I have read it more than a dozen times. I read it every year around December. The more I read that book the more I start to think it’s not really satire, or, if it is, it’s just very slightly over the line from normal. It’s such a deceptive book. I read it and laugh all the way through, but so little of what is happening is actually funny.

I love Catch 22 for a number of reasons. I love Yossarian. I love his cowardice. It’s hard to think of another book where I can root so strongly for a coward. I love how Joseph Heller spins everything into a contradiction, from the major themes to individual sentences. I love it because it keeps me humble. No matter how successful I might become as a writer, I can’t conceive of being able to craft a masterpiece like Catch 22.

I want to believe that Yossarian successfully escapes at the end. In my mind, this is what happens. It’s why I’ve never read the sequel.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m hoping this book will be well received. It may well determine if I finish writing the next one, ‘Stacked Deck’. The book I dream of writing is the one that finally hooks my daughter and makes her love reading as much as I do. I don’t really know what that is yet though.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A Raymond Chandler book, a Dr. Suess book, and the Gaslight series of books edited by Charles Prepolec and J. R. Campbell.

Awesome Author - Mark Le Dain

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) from Queen’s University and I completed an exchange at the Rouen School of Business in France. I currently work as Director, Strategy at an AI company and I previously worked as an investment banker.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Dreamtime (First Fantastic Collection of Completely Fractured Fiction)

Each of the stories presents an entirely new idea about the future or takes a unique look at a theme that is already occurring. Think about some of the following questions and the stories that could be created around each of them.

What would an autonomous car be willing to do when it’s primary directive is to save your life over everything else?

What if students were taught to exercise their response to fear the same way they are taught to train any other muscle or skill? What would those classes look like?

What if governments made you live in an environment that reflected your carbon footprint?

Much of the progress in the last decade has been creating new markets where historically there weren’t any (housing, car sharing etc.). What if that idea, of the power of the market over everything, gets pushed to its logical conclusion.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write quickly and between ‘projects’.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Recently I’ve been focused on biographies as well as a number of books on how to approach your craft, whatever it may be. While these types of books do not impact your particular writing style they certainly impact how you approach your craft and how you make yourself more effective in all aspects of your life, which flows through to your writing.

What are you working on now?
Another collection of short fiction stories.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My publisher takes care of this.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes. It is best to know as much as you can about life and whatever it is you write about.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Veni, Vidi, Vici”

What are you reading now?
Books on AI. Isn’t everyone?

What’s next for you as a writer?
With some luck this book will be sought after for movie or TV adaptations. Working on a film or TV script would be fun. I’ll also be working on some new short stories in the meantime.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius (This sounds impressive but a number of recent translations make it very accessible and it is actually a very short read)

Daily Rituals, by Mason Currey

What I Talk About When I Talk About Writing by Haruki Murakami

Any biography by Walter Isaacson

Awesome Author - Leslie Hachtel

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Ohio, raised in New York and has been a gypsy most of my adult life. My various jobs, including licensed veterinary technician, caterer, horseback riding instructor for the disabled and advertising media buyer have given me a wealth of experiences.
However, it has been writing that has consistently been my passion. I sold an episode of a TV show, had a screenplay optioned and has so far produced eleven novels, including eight historical romances and three romantic suspense. I live in Florida with a fabulously supportive engineer husband and my writing buddy, Jakita, a terrier.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest is a re-release of “Texas Summer”. I’m not really sure what inspired it. But it’s hot.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I just put my bottom in the chair in front of the keyboard.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love so many authors, but the one that got me started in romance was Kathleen Woodiwiss. Her books are wonderful!

What are you working on now?
I am also finishing Book Two in the Morocco series, “Tied to Morocco”. This series was inspired by a trip to Escapeology, where they put you in a room and you have one hour to escape. Our scenario was a shanghai. So I thought – what if you were kidnapped and taken to Morocco to serve the sultan?

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Yours!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t quit! That’s the best advice ever.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
See above.

What are you reading now?
I am actually judging a contest, so I am reading books from seven authors.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would love to do a book on Native Americans. A romance, of course.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Ashes in the Wind” by Kathleen Woodiwiss
The Key series by Nora Roberts
“Salem’s Lot” by Stephen King

Awesome Author - Abi Latham

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Abi Latham; I am a writer and artist. In 2016 I started my own business doing freelance graphic design and illustration. I also exhibit in art exhibitions regularly and both my art and writing has been published in magazines. I enjoy writing short stories in my spare time and in the past couple of years have been taking my work more seriously and have submitted my writing to magazines and blogs.

I have written two books of short stories.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first book ‘Travel Stories: from Tasmania to Taiwan’ is a collection of short stories from my travels in Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan. I have also written a book called ‘The Yellow Brick Cafe and other Stories.’

I like to travel and have lived in many different places, including Australia and the Isles of Scilly. This has been a source of inspiration for my writing.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I try to write a little bit every morning.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The book that had the biggest influence on me is called ‘Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway.’ After reading it I booked a flight to New Zealand for three months time and ended up living in New Zealand for a year and then Australia for two years.

What are you working on now?
In late 2015 I travelled to Taiwan to visit some friends that I met in Australia. I am currently in the process of writing an autobiographical travel book about Taiwan, where I spent five weeks. I think that this book will be of interest to people who have a sense of adventure and like travelling. While I was there lots of funny things happened and I am aiming to capture the country, its people and the culture in a unique and humorous way.

Taiwan is a destination that not many people visit, or even know much about. I want to be able to share my experience and maybe encourage people to visit the country. However, I think there is a market for travel books as people are interested in getting a glimpse of a different culture even if they aren’t planning to visit.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I sell and promote my books through Amazon Kindle and take advantage of the free promotion when I can to encourage new readers. I also use social media to promote my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
It’s easier to write a little bit every day rather than trying to fit in longer writing sessions. You’ll be surprised at how it all adds up if you write just 200-500 words a day.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Believe in yourself and always follow your dreams.

What are you reading now?
‘The Yorkshire Shepherdess’ by Amanda Owen. I like to read inspiring stories about other people’s lives.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m still working on my book about Taiwan, so getting that finished and published is my next step.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I love everything by Joanne Harris so probably ‘Chocolat’
I would also take ‘The Snow Child’ and ‘Water for Elephants’ as they are great books.
Maybe it would also be good to have a book about boat building so that I could build a boat, or carve a kayak from a tree trunk to help me escape.

Awesome Author - Isabelle Nations

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Isabelle Nations and I created Zentopia Designs so I and others could produce creative & fun content. I primarily focuses on puzzles books, my specialty being rebus puzzles. I done around 9 books but others at Zentopia Designs have done others.
Other than that, I have a very spoiled dog. I love to travel but don’t get to as much as I would like. I love animals & random facts. I also hate talking about myself, which probably makes for a horrible interview.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book is “My Big Book of Scavenger Hunts”. At a recent family gathering, I was about to go insane being stuck in front of the TV with my niece and 2 nephews. I ended up creating scavenger hunts (little did I know that once I started this game, this is what I would be doing the rest of the gathering). However, this did spark the idea for this book. My family sure did have a blast!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so but I’m quirky so I can’t be sure.

What are you working on now?
Possibly another Rebus categories book or something to be decided upon.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use twitter a lot but my good friend says I need help when it comes to promotions. So….

Awesome Author - Stanislaw (Stan I.S.) Kapuscinski (Law)

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Stanislaw Kapuscinski, (aka Stan I.S. Law) an architect, sculptor and prolific writer, was educated in Poland and England. A refugee from Poland at 13, then at 33, having overcome numerous difficulties, he began his search for the secret of life. Now, he is a successful writer, happily married for 35 years, with an assured future.

His special interests cover a broad spectrum of arts, sciences and philosophy. At times he seeks inspiration in the Peruvian Andes or solitude under sail. His books (articles, short stories, poetry) attest to his particular passion for the scope and the development of Human Potential. He authored more than 40 books, 20 of them, novels.

His non-fiction explores Ancient Myths, Biblical Symbolism, Immortality and the mystery of Visualization. Three volumes of Essays (Beyond Religion) investigate the Nature of Being. Generally, if you suspect you are more than flesh and bones, read Stan Law. If you want to be sure, read Stanislaw Kapuscinski.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest books are 4 trilogies, offering continuity of novels previously published as individual volumes.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No. I am retired and thus can write up to 10 hours/day. I do what gives me the greatest pleasure: writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
When young, I read all the books I could find dealing with detectives. When older, I went through all the science fiction I could find. Then I moved through philosophy, poetry (Shakespeare), finally scriptures of various religions.

What are you working on now?
Lately, I am writing blogs which are arranged in 6 volumes, entitled VICIOUS CIRCLES. They are inspired by Dalai Lama, and deal, principally, with the search for Secular Ethics.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am terribly bad at promotion. My wife says that I am by far the most famous, completely unknown writer. I think she’s right. I’m on FB, twitter, and that practically all.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t write until you have something to say. If you do, you’ll just repeat what has already been said. Originality is obligatory for a writer.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write.

What are you reading now?
Dozens of magazines on Astronomy a friend had given me.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finding someone who will take over promotion and marketing to free me to keep writing. I’m offering 50% of profit.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Bible (nothing to do with religion, just wisdom), 3 or 4 of my own books.

Awesome Author - Lisa Andrew

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
When we see a different perspective in a story or in a film, we begin to recognize the idea behind it, and that’s when creativity can change the world. – Lisa Andrew

My three main dreams are (1) to write and publish a collection of short stories, (2) write and publish a full-length novel, and (3) write a screenplay. I’ve completed two of those dreams so far.
I’m a Canadian with two young children, and have been happily involved with my husband for over twenty years. When I’m not writing or editing, you’ll find me listening to music or watching a movie.
With two bestselling books on Amazon, I like to write about sexy relationships with a psychological twist. With vivid details and controversial topics, and I strongly believe those topics are the ones that get us discussing what’s important in life, and what we should be appreciating the most. And of course, it’s important to me to show the proper representation of practice in BDSM.
The idea of prior consent that can be nonconsensual in the moment is almost always a staple in my works. When the character’s guards are down and when they’re most vulnerable, but they’re still comfortable. It’s a situation of full trust and respect for the partners involved, but I also like to surprise the reader. Playing on the psychological strings of the uncomfortable thoughts we’ve seen evil people possess can really make the story interesting and different.
Psychopaths and sociopaths have always fascinated me because of what they’re capable of, so I try to place one into the story.

It’s my pleasure to write noir stories with kinky relationships, adding a flavour of either disturbance or surprise. I rely on the possible truth of how some live their private lives and let my imagination to take hold to exaggerate possibilities.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Michael James is the name of the novel.
I’ve always been a fan of celebrities and their public profiles versus what they could be hiding from us in their private lives. I always wondered if someone had everything they ever dreamed of, what would he want next? I wanted something sexy, but something deceptive. I think of it as a very possible account of a powerful CEO’s private life.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have any unusual writing habits.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m not much of a reader, so my influences typically lay in movies and movie scripts. I really admire writers that direct their own work, but I’m a fan of Nic Pizzolatto of True Detective, Mike Flanagan from The Haunting of Hill House, David Fincher, Stephen King, and Gillian Flynn.

What are you working on now?
After the promotion of Michael James, I’ll be working on a few different screenplays of controversial issues.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have a plethora of different social media, but short-lived promotions run on Amazon have worked best, so far.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you’re a new author, learn how to not take criticism to heart, and make sure you keep at it. If this is your dream, don’t let anyone stop you. If you’re happy with your work, just keep doing it. If you like it, chances are someone else will and does like it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” – Andy Warhol

What are you reading now?
I’m reading “On Writing” by Stephen King, “Chasing Winter” by Cass Michaels, “Claimed in Chains” by Rexi Lake, and “Big and Beautiful” by Gisela Grey.

What’s next for you as a writer?
The screenplays are next on my list and I’m very excited!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take any Stephen King short stories collection, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, and some sort of expert’s guide on being stranded on a deserted island!

Awesome Author - David Grayson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m very new to writing – I got a degree in mechanical engineering funnily enough. This desire to write sort of came out of nowhere. I have just written my first ever book, which came out a lot better than I expected considering I wrote in two weeks – from the conceptual idea of the story to the final finished product. I hope that this book shows some signs of success so I can start to write more and better stories.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
So my latest book is my first – which is a book I named Dread. It’s a horror/mystery book set in a setting I’ve always wanted to write in – on a mountain covered in dark forest. The idea for the story actually came about while I was on holiday in Germany with my cousin. We sort of took some basic ideas and things we saw there, and came up with the idea of writing a mystery/horror book set in a secluded Sanatorium hidden in the mountains. I was immediately on board with the idea and less two weeks later we had a finished book to publish.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
In short yes – I tend to write sort of badly as I type the words of the story in the moment. So what I do is after every paragraph I go over what I’ve written and change a lot of the wording/expressions and I’m always surprised by how many mistakes I’ve made the first time around. I also require almost absolute silence when writing otherwise I write garbage…

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve read a lot of classic novels over the years which I think has had a major impact on my writing and the sudden desire to write. Some of my favourites are the Sherlock Holmes series, Treasure Island, Of Mice And Men, The Great Gatsby, and my favourite book of all time is Bram Stocker’s Dracula (you know the original vampire lord, not the lame ones you see in the movies now).

What are you working on now?
I am currently taking a short break after writing my first book to make sure I have enough time to think of a good story to write. I wouldn’t be fair for any fans I might gather with the first book to slap them with a terrible second book. I have been one of those fans in the past and it’s very disappointing to see the works of an author drop in quality as they rush to pump out more books too quickly.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Websites like this one where they have a large number of passionate followers who want to be given good books to read. It’s a huge bonus if they do it for free.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I can’t speak for non-fiction writers this early in my career and can only speak about what I know and experienced. Take your time to outline your story and never be afraid to change small details as you write. It’s important to have a clear direction of the story as you write the words, and a good way of doing this is imaging your story like a movie. Play out the scene in your head and write as naturally as you can. You can then scan over what you’ve written and fix any grammatical errors and change the wording of certain things, as well as change any details in the story. And ALWAYS read your book carefully before publishing it, from start to finish, taking at least one day off after you complete it, so that you can have a clear head as you read it over. Speaking from my experience, you might find that what you’ve written sounds very different as you read it from a reader’s perspective instead of the author. Finish cleaning up the book then, and only then, can you publish it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Read your own book as if you didn’t write it to truly judge its quality.

What are you reading now?
I am currently re-reading Dracula believe it or not. There’s a lot of value in that book that I want fresh in my mind now that I write. After that I want to ready Moby Dick by Herman Melville as it’s supposedly a great classic. I find that the best novels were the classics that were written between 1840-1940.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep producing better stories than the last.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1) “How to Survive on a Deserted Island” – it will probably help 🙂
2) Dracula – Yes I’m well aware that my obsession with this book is unearthly.
3) Treasure Island or Moby Dick – again both might be somewhat helpful…

Awesome Author - Tonja Drecker

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an author, a children’s book reviewer, raise cows and chickens, lived in Europe for over twenty years eating chocolate and cheese while exploring castles and caves, have four children, drink too much tea, and wish I could sail the world but would get sea sick on the very first day. I’ve written numerous short stories, have a novella Ubook, and am celebrating the release of my debut novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is titled Music Boxes. I’m not sure what inspired it. I was out in my garden pulling weeds—nasty blackberries with painful thorns—and the image of a ballet teacher staring up at the rows of music boxes on her shelves slipped into my mind. The music boxes were beautiful as was the teacher, but she had a sinister smile on her face. And that’s where the story began to take form.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always have a cup of tea with me—I am a tea addict. And usually something to nibble on like chocolate. That’s it! I write on paper, on my laptop, on napkins or receipts. I write at the dining room table or in the car or outside next to a small waterfall up in our forest.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
While I don’t know if other authors have really influenced me, I’ve always enjoyed Shel Silverstein’s works. I read many, many books…I’m constantly reading…and love diving into all sorts of worlds and adventures. I suppose each and every story has left its own mark.

What are you working on now?
I always have a few new stories brewing at the same time. As to middle grade books, I’m currently working on a mystery, which is based on true and obscure, real life crimes. It’s humorous, though, and the sleuths are not mystery seekers themselves. They have a wonderful pet, which is full of surprises and probably my favorite character in the book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Persistence, kindness and promoting others more than they promote me. The writing community is a wonderful group, and they’ve been amazingly supportive even on the promotional end. It’s important, however, to think out of the box and actively seek out the readers who’d be interested in reading the book the most.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up and build a rhino-skin. Publishing is not an easy road and not necessarily quick either. Rejections are part of the journey and should never be taken personally.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You can’t edit a blank page. There are days—many of them—where writing doesn’t flow as well as it could. For me, it’s hard not to constantly edit while writing, especially when I’m working on the first draft. The magic happens later in the editing. I know that, but I still can’t resist the urge to edit everything right away.

What are you reading now?
Esme’s Wish by Elizabeth Foster. I’m just starting to read this one, but it appears to be a wonderful fantasy already.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Time to write the next story. Or edit. It’s always one or the other when it comes to writing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My Bible; Dune; Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day; and How to Survive on a Desert Island (which is really a book)

Awesome Author - Grace M. Jolliffe

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in Liverpool’s inner city. Home was a tiny terraced house with no hot water, bath or shower and joys of joys – an outside toilet.

This influenced my 1970s based Liverpool series. I write about real people who struggle to survive in poverty but I do this from the inside out because I lived there too.

I aim to capture the humanity, wit and humour of my characters as well as the community spirit which is one of the best things about Liverpool.

The first of my Liverpool books was my debut crime thriller, Piggy Monk Square.

Piggy Monk Square was first published by Tindal Street Press, short-listed for the Commonwealth New Writers Prize, optioned for film by Willy Russell, and broadcast on Ireland’s RTE Radio One.

Many Piggy Monk Square readers mentioned that they loved the character of Josie. She was a minor character but readers loved her cheeky attitude, big heart and spirited approach to live.

I enjoyed writing about Josie and so I wrote two more books featuring her as the main character.

When the Sun Shines is a short novel introducing the character and setting the scene for the full-length novel – The Sunshine Girl.

ABOUT ME
I started off writing to please myself but was greatly encouraged by my creative writing teacher.

I began to write short stories and when I won awards for these, including Ireland’s Book Stop Award, I was encouraged to write more and more.

When these stories were published – I well and truly got the writing bug.

I did a detour into film school so my career has been varied.

I wrote, directed and produced documentary and short films for television as well as writing short stories for RTE’s Radio One.

I also taught script-writing and creative-writing at 3rd level but right now I concentrate on writing novels.

LIFE IN A WILD ATLANTIC WILDERNESS
I live with my husband in a wild Atlantic wilderness along with a tiny rescued Jack Russell pup who enjoys chewing on laptop leads and barking at her own reflection.
I also have ten hens who regularly escape into our neighbour’s gardens as well as three lucky ducks.

NATURAL INSPIRATION
I love walking around the country lanes where I live and also enjoy weekend coastal walks.

One day I hope to have walked the entire coast of Ireland….

WRITING FOR CHILDREN
I also write for children and my love of nature and its natural magic inspired me to create the fictional town of Ballyyahoo.

With my Ballyyahoo books, I aim to encourage children to enjoy the wonder of nature.

My eBooks link to a website where young readers can click directly from their books to find more free stories, photographs and background information about the characters, animals and wildlife of Ballyyahoo.

BALLYYAHOO
You can visit the magical town and read some free stories at www.ballyyahoo.com

GRACE LIKES TO GARDEN
I also love gardening and grow my own vegetables, fruit and flowers.

I have a blog about my efforts to tame my wild Galway garden at www.gracelikestogarden.com

CONTACT GRACE
Writing can be a lonely business so I love hearing from readers.

Whether you want to say hello or ask me a question go ahead and can contact me at the sites below.
www.gracejolliffe.com and www.practicalcreativewriting.com

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Kindness and Strangers. This is another in my Liverpool series and features Frankie.

Frankie is another spirited female character and I have to say I am fond of her.

She’s not perfect but neither is her life. When she arrives home one day to find her father packing his bags her life changes in a way she never imagined.

Her father’s abrupt departure launches the family into a spiral of debt and it’s up to Frankie to save them.

Kindness and Strangers will be published very soon.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am lucky in that I can write anywhere. Once I immerse myself in the story I can tune most things out including the sound of my dog snoring.

Eppie, a tiny terrier, likes to sit on me or beside me when I’m writing and apart from occasionally tapping her paw on the keyboard she is great company for a writer.

I walk every day and I would swear this keeps writer’s block away. I also tend to drink a lot of tea when I’m writing but apart from that, I don’t have any particular routines or superstitions.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I think back I think the book that influenced me most was ‘The Diary of Anne Frank.’

She was my first heroine and she made me want to be a writer.

I love John Steinbeck’s East of Eden because it says so much about human nature and makes me ponder the questions of good and evil and what makes us who we are.

My reading choices are hugely influenced by my mood – when I need cheering up I read Tom Sharpe. His books never fail to make me laugh.

I love to read thrillers for the escapism – legal ones like John Grisham’s are a favourite.

I always enjoy reading books about human beings who don’t quite fit in but can’t figure out why.

Anne Tyler does this beautifully and ‘The Accidental Tourist’ is one of my favourites.

What are you working on now?
Right now I am planning another novel in my Liverpool series.
I used to just start writing and go from there but I’ve learned from my mistakes and these days I prefer to plan the novel out before starting so that I at least have an idea of how the story will develop and most importantly – how it will end.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love sites like this which make promotion accessible to those of us with smaller budgets. I have found little and often works well when it comes to promotion.

I am still experimenting with advertising and promotions so it’s hard to say which method is best but I did have great success promoting Piggy Monk Square on Bookbub. This was the most expensive promotion I have ever done and I bit my nails waiting for the results – but it more than paid for itself.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I love to encourage new authors and my best advice is to write regularly, don’t allow your inner critic to stop you and if a story doesn’t work out – think of it as practice and start another right away.

I used to teach creative writing and scriptwriting and so have plenty more advice and information for my writers on my website:
www.practicalcreativewriting.com

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You’ve only got one life – don’t waste it.
So… always take steps towards the life you want – even small steps can get you there.

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading Testimony by Anita Shreve.

What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next for me as a writer? Big question but my loose plan is to finish one or two more books in my Liverpool series and then experiment by writing in a completely different genre.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The first one would be a non-fiction book about surviving on a desert island of course.

I guess there’d be a lot of thinking time on that desert island so my second book would be East of Eden by John Steinbeck because as well as being a compelling story it is an amazing study in human nature and never fails to make me think.

Next would be two very, very long books that I have never read.

Awesome Author - Iris Taylor

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi! I’m Iris Taylor. I’ve been writing since I was a kid and have been a self-published writer for three years now.

Writing has always been about escapism for me, and putting all those unfulfilled dreams down into words to see where they go…like what things could’ve been like if this had happened or if I had done things differently.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Missing You is the second book of The Miller Brothers Series. It’s a Friends to Lovers Romance and loosely inspired by an old flame. We started out as super close friends and it became something much bigger.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write on my phone mostly. Not sure of that’s very unusual but it’s the only way I can be productive.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Twilight. I don’t know why, but it just has a lasting impression on me.

What are you working on now?
The third book in the series. It’s to do with the third Miller brother, Cade, who works as an emergency physician. He’s also a suave, confident playboy. I know I’m gonna have fun working with him.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
This I have yet to find out.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Continue to write! And ask yourself why you do, because there are starkly different approaches and strategies depending on what you want to achieve.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“If I can do it, so can you.” This is the advice from various authors who have managed to earn a full income from their writing.

What are you reading now?
Nothing yet.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To build my backlist of books. I know that writing gets better with practice so that’s my goal.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Twilight (the entire series)

Awesome Author - Patrick Kavanagh

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written seven books. I began writing poetry after the passing of my late wife, Frances. I was urged to post it on social media. to my amazement, people liked my work and many said that my poetry helped them to deal with their grief. I still post regularly on my Facebook page, ‘Patrick W Kavanagh’
I then began to write stories, and eventually progressed to my latest project which is not yet published, called Dublin Days.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent published book is ‘Faery Fact and Faery fiction’. It is also my first publishing project. I was approached by an American publisher to write a book about the fairies, along with a graphic artist, Bill Oliver. After almost five years of delays, I decided to produce and self-publish the book myself. It is a combination of art, stories, personal reflections on the strange things which happened to me, Fairy sightings and meditations. A friend who is a spiritual medium told me that it was not going to be my first book and she was proven right.

Awesome Author - Simon Herfet

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
The author has lived all of his life to date in Dorset, a beautiful part of England. On leaving school in 1978 he joined the Dorset Police Constabulary as it was then known and served as a uniformed police patrol officer. He retired from the Police Service in 2008.

Aside from his work, the author has had a deep interest in matters concerning spirituality, which has taken him twice to India to meet and spend time with the famous avatar Sri Sathya Sai Baba-once in 1998 in Kodaikanal and again in 2004 in Puttaparti. He was also invited to and visited in 1999 the Native American Indian Reservation in Taos, New Mexico- by a shaman called ‘Standing-Deer’- the son of the local tribal medicine-man.

Simon began his own conscious ‘inner spiritual journey’ in 1987 when he started to practise meditation and spent time in the company of many other ‘seekers of spiritual truth’ .The author has also been a regular visitor to many ancient and mystical places, particularly in the south-west of England, which has many such places. This including Glastonbury: a place of myths and legends and a certain mystical energy. This area to him, has always been like an ‘open air spiritual university’, and a place which has brought him many deep, spiritual experiences, including many personal contacts from whom he learnt a great deal and which helped his own spiritual development in various ways.

After over thirty years of his own spiritual practice, including meditation, healing and self-healing work, the author decided it was to time to share, through his ability to connect directly to spirit, the information which he has learnt to access by various techniques. He decided it was time to write this book and hopefully the first with several to follow and which was something he knew he had to do for a long time.

Due to his busy schedule, his first book took him two years to write and is titled “Awakening to Love” and is now available and published by Balboa Press in the UK. It is a channeled book, written as a series of his questions with channeled answers about ‘the spiritual relationship to consciousness, universal love and awareness and the current global shift towards the greater awareness of such in humanity.

Whenever asked about his own spiritual belief or religion. The author would simply state that he believes in ‘the golden thread of truth which runs through all of the main religions in the world’.

Awesome Author - J J Savoie

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am on a journey to write a book for every age, in every genre.

Last year I started two children’s books, one for the early ages and one ages 4-8. I am currently writing a middle school novel as well as one that delves into some more mature themes for those aged around 13-16.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Every book I pick up at the bookstore inspires me – from the cover design, to the text to the content. But to be more specific, I am reading Night Moves by Jonathan Kellerman – it is a detective novel and the author is fabulous at creating characters.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write to music which is not that unusual until you see my track lists. All music inspires me and motivates me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are so many but off the top of my head:

Nick Cutter, JJR Tokien, Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, and Ray Bradbury

What are you working on now?
Currently I am working on two books at once while contemplating another children’s book. The first book is about a child who gets lost in the underworld and is saved by her older sister and stuffed animals. The other is a modern retelling of Hanzel & Gretal.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon and Facebook work for me.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing. Don’t stop.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Have the courage to live a life true to yourself, not the life others expect of you.

What are you reading now?
Night Moves by Jonathan Kellerman

What’s next for you as a writer?
Bloody fingertips and craft beer.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Dragonlance Chronicles – 1, 2 and 3!

Awesome Author - Barbara Woster

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I began writing after my neighbor shattered my knee, which laid me up for a year. That was the partial impetus. During the time I was laid up, my father would give me books to read. Those provided the initial inspiration. My life, husband, and children provided the rest. To date, I have written nine books, all of which can be located on my author website at http://www.LiteraryAdventures.weebly.com

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is a crime novel, entitled 36 Hours. It is being published by a London publisher and is scheduled to be released sometime in the spring or summer of 2019.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I suppose all authors have one unusual writing habit. For me that would be not developing an outline prior to writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are three authors in three different genres who inspired my writing. They remain my favorite to this day: Clive Cussler, Dean Koontz, and Diana Gabaldon.

What are you working on now?
I just concluded 36 Hours not too long ago. My next two projects are a second crime novel and a paranormal crime novel.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m hoping that this one will prove beneficial :-).

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Many authors will tell aspiring writers to write what they know, and this is true. If you attempt to write about a subject that is not familiar, it will be less likely to impress your readers. This includes fiction. All fiction should contain elements of realism in order to draw the readers in.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there”. A lot of artists worry over rejection when first starting out, and there is always that possibility, but you won’t know the impact your work has if you don’t put it out there.

What are you reading now?
I wish I could say I’m currently reading something; however, that wouldn’t be true. My days are filled with the running of my business, and when I’m not doing that, I’m tending to family and animals. If it weren’t for the weekends, I would have little time to write.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My next crime novel is currently in the works. Writing is a time-consuming process, so it will be many months before it’s completed.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’m going to cheat here because I can’t just name one book from a series:

Outlander series
Harry Potter series
Odd Thomas series

Awesome Author - Isabel Fox

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Reading has been my primary hobby in life since I was a kid. I love books in a ridiculously wide range of genres, and I’ll read just about anything I can get my hands on. Finishing my first book (and currently only) book at the age of 26 is still one of my biggest accomplishments in life.

Besides reading, I love T.V. and movies, baking, and I also absolutely adore animals. My life’s ambition is to one day have a giant plot of land where I can have an assortment of dogs, cats, horses, llamas, donkeys, and sheep.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
How Perfect You Are was an idea that was inspired by a real-life event- I got a super spooky text message from an unknown number early one morning. It got me thinking, and How Perfect You Are came from there. I’d been wanting to write a book with a college-aged protagonist for quite a while, and this turned into the perfect opportunity.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if this is unusual, exactly, but I tend to write in bursts. I can crank out an entire chapter in one fairly quick sitting, but then I have to stop and do something else for a while…occasionally even days. I also vastly prefer to have the T.V. or music on in the background when I work.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Meg Cabot and Ally Carter are two writers I really admire, both for the breadth of their work and their overall style. I have a list that would number into the hundreds or thousands if I tried to name every author and book I’ve ever loved, though.

What are you working on now?
My plan is for How Perfect You Are to be part of a bigger series, called the Carlson College Mysteries. Each book will be standalone but will feature Carlson College students as the main characters and have occasional tie-ins to other stories. I’m currently working on the next book in the series and plotting several others.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m doing a lot of reading about advertising and learning the ins and outs at the moment, so I’m still refining my promotion strategies. Awesome Gang is obviously a good start though!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write about what you love and because you enjoy it. Read often, in your preferred writing genre and out of it. Find people whose advice you can trust, and consider their advice carefully.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Get in the habit of asking yourself if your actions support the life you are trying to create.

What are you reading now?
I’m rereading “Illusions of Fate” by Kiersten White for the billionth time.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Working on the next book in my series and trying to master this promotion thing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I detest this question. It varies too much depending on the day, but today I’d have to say To Kill A Mockingbird, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, How I Live Now, and…Sherlock Holmes the Complete Collection. Is that last one cheating?

Awesome Author - J DeVereS

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
First and foremost, JDeVereS is a writer, whether generating ‘white papers’, ‘point papers’, technical manuals, poetry, a wide genre of magazine articles or “The Elfkin Journals: the first book in a planned series of novels surrounding the Elven influence on our planet.
Aside from writing he travels internationally and has seen life from many different perspectives. These world-wide experiences strongly influence his writing style and subject matter!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first full-length novel is entitled “The Elfkin Journals: Blending of the Races”. This is the first book in an intended trilogy with many spin-offs intended for the future. JDeVereS has little tolerance for rigid thinking… life is all about learning and growing. Adapting to new concepts and scientific break through ideas that improve and alter our life perspectives. “The Elfkin Journals” is an attempt – to entertain while taking a closer look at outdated concepts and ideologies. Rigid thinkers never grow!
His primary doctrine is simply: “The only lasting treasures are those you can hold in your heart – not in your hands!”

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When writing science fiction or fantasy… I wait for my characters to talk to me… I create a scene and wait until my characters tell me how they would handle the situation. Typically, this occurs in the middle of the night…
At that point I jump out of bed.. make a few notes… then wait until daylight before “fleshing out” the concept.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Lord! Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, Keats, Byron, Ursula K. Le Guin, Alice Mary North (aka Andre Norton), Bradbury, Tolkien, Asimov, Jules Verne… heck… the list is endless. I appreciate writers who speak to prime human motivations in an entertaining fashion. I am a strong believer that 97% of good fiction is “non-fiction”… it is the task of the fiction author to take real human emotions, as we experience them in everyday life, and set them in an unusual environment that allows them to tell a unique tale while still talking to real human feeling, emotions and responses to life’s challenges

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on Book 2 of “The Elfkin Journals”.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I follow the advise of professional promoters such as “The Awesome Gang”!

My personal website: http://www.theelfkinjournals.com – is a blog that allows me to communicate with people interested in my thoughts… it also allows me to share my art and related peotry/quotes which are the cornerstone of my stories.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
This is becoming an “Indie” world… embrace it… the biggest shock to me as a long time writer was the transition from writing magazine articles, where the publisher handles everything except the writing, to a world where “the artist” inside me must also become a business person. Like it or not – this is rapidly become the “norm” in the world of publishing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“To thine owe self be true and it must follow, as the night – the day, you can the be false to no others!” Sorry, I paraphrased that a little…

What are you reading now?
Aiiiya! “The Elfkin Journals” again and again and again until I get it right!

What’s next for you as a writer?
As I travel the world, I write magazine articles about the places I’ve been and my experiences. However, my literay journal at this point is “The Elfkin Journals!”

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Ahhhh! Like the dilemma in “The Time Machine”?

I would have to think about this a long time!

Awesome Author - Stephen Hayes

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Durban, South Africa, and have lived in southern Africa for most of my life apart from a couple of years when I studied at the University of Durham in England. I worked for the Anglican Church in various places in southern Africa, and also have worked as a bus driver, journalist and a few other things. My last job was teaching missiology (the study of Christian mission) at the University of South Africa, and also editing academic texts.

I have written one and a third non-fiction books (one book had two co-authors?), a children’s novel and an adult (not an “adult”) novel; some of the same characters appear in both.

I serve as a deacon in the Orthodox Church in Gauteng, South Africa.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “The Year of the Dragon”, set in southern Africa in 1988/89, a year of significant political changes.

It was inspired, in part, by the novels of Charles Williams who wrote “supernatural thrillers”. His fellow members of the Inklings literary group, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien wrote fantasy mostly set in other worlds, whereas Williams wrote about other worlds influencing and sometimes breaking into our world, and that is what I have tried to do in :The Year of the Dragon”.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do my best writing early in the morning, when it’s quiet, but I don’t know how unusual that is.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
As mentioned before, the Inklings, especially Charles Williams, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien are probably the main ones. Also Alan Garner’s children’s books. I’ve admired his style, which is simple, yet evocative.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a sequel to my children’s novel “Of wheels and witches”. It features the same main characters having more adventures.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best method I have found is probably word of mouth, or word of e-mail, especially through e-mail mailing lists. I have also promoted them on my blogs and on sites like GoodReads, though I haven’t worked out which has been more effective.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Don’t hang around waiting for inspiration, or day dreaming about writing one day. get writing now.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From a book on how to use WordPerfect (which I’ve hardly ever used): Open a document and write for 10 minutes without stopping. Don’t stop to correct spelling errors or anything else. Don’t pause. Don’t stop to read what you’ve written. Just write whatever comes into your head until your time is up.

It’s a great way to clear writer’s block.

What are you reading now?
Fiction: “The Wrath of Angels” by John Connolly.

Non-fiction: “Seeing things as they are: G.K. Chesterton and the drama of meaning” by Duncan Reyburn.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m hoping to see some reviews of my most recent book, which will help me to see how I can improve what I’m currently working on. In addition to a sequel to my children’s book I also have a draft of a memoir of my time in Namibia in the early 1970s, and a history of my wife’s family, who lived in Namibia in the 19th century.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Jerusalem Bible (old edition), C.S. Lewis’s Cosmic Trilogy, and Pears Cyclopaedia. For a fourth, the Philokalia.

Awesome Author - Melissa Winn

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! I’m a child psychologist, passionate children’s book author, poetess, mother of two children, and more recently a grandmother. My life revolves around children, both my family, my vocation, and my aspirations. My debut book is “Baby Giraffe Goes Potty ” In the near future, I will be releasing “ Hugs and Kisses” and “I know how to beat my anger!.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Baby Giraffe Goes Potty ”. My biggest inspiration is my grandson. Thanks to him, I have many ideas to turn into stories.
My biggest inspiration is my grandson. Thanks to him, I have many ideas to turn into stories. My upcoming release aims to make potty training easier for parents with books “Baby Giraffe Goes Potty ”. All parents know how important, psychological approach is for their children. I believe books can help as I had watched how attentively my grandson listened to poems, and how easy the education process became once I added rhymes and illustrations. To a grown-up, children’s problems may seem like ordinary, minor issues, but to a child, they can be terrifying and uncomfortable for. Our job as parents is to help them deal with it. My goal is to give every child a chance to explore the world with joy and love.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to write at night.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I was a child, my favorite authors were Charles Perrault and Hans Christian Andersen. I was a curious child, and luckily my children inherited this side of my character. Now I am a fan of F. Scott Fitzgerald.

What are you working on now?
My next book is about parents’ love. “My Inner Monster” is a book about a little girl who wakes up grumpy. As she moves through her day, doing grumpy things, her body is flooded with physical sensations until she begins to feel she is turning into stone. But then talks to her mother, who comforts her, and helps her realize she can’t stay angry if she fills her heart with love. It’s a sweet story to remind children that it’s okay to have a bad day; and that we will love them no matter what!
Most children don’t have the language skills to explain how they are feeling; so big feelings, such as anger, anxiety and sadness can feel overwhelming. Many children describe it as an inner “monster” and feel helpless to control it. But by offering unconditional love, parents can teach their children how to cope with difficult feelings, how to control themselves, and how to take care of others who might get upset as a result of their behavior.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t have much experience yet.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Forget about your fear and just let your passion lead you. Put all of your love into the things you do. Don’t second-guess yourself! Let others assess your performance. It might turn out that you are too self-critical.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Try, try, try, till you die! A lot of people give up when they face their first failure. “Never give up” sounds cliché nowadays. When I was given this advice, I realized that my efforts, alone, were not enough. It gave me a superpower.

What are you reading now?
“The Whole Town’s Talking” by Fannie Flagg

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to write a series aimed at teenagers.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Tender Is the Night” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, “Three Comrades” by Erich Maria Remarque, and “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen

Awesome Author - Lakisha Johnson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Lakisha and I’m a native of Memphis, TN. I’ve been writing for over 9 years and I currently have 18 books and 2 journals. Most recently, I’ve began writing in the Christian Fiction genres and I love it.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest is The Family that Lies: Merci Restored. In 2016, I release The Family that Lies and I always gets asked for an update, so I decided to release a ‘special edition’ to the book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Um, none that I can think of. I usually write whenever I can and wherever I can. LOL!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am, actually, influenced by a great number of authors, most of whom don’t even write in the genre I do yet they’ve helped me; even if it’s encouragement. Tamika Newhouse because she taught me the game. Stacey Covington-Lee, Khara Campbell and LaShanta Charles because these women write some amazing books. BM Hardin because this sister grinds and writes like nobody’s business and she doesn’t mind helping others. Mercy B, Tressa Azarel, B Love; these ladies I glean from simply by watching them work. There are many more who paved the way for me and I wish I could name them all.

What are you working on now?
I think I have 3 separate projects, right now. LOL! I am working on a women’s bible study, a new book idea as well as another special edition to a book I released in 2018.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesome Gang, for sure. AllAuthor, Fussy Librarian as well as social media promoters like Vanek Miles, Tootie Williams and Shekie Johnson. The best form of promoting is self promoting, so I try to post as often as I can.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t rush the process. Sure, everybody wants to release a book and it hit the best seller list immediately, which means larger royalty checks but reality is, it doesn’t always happen. I’m 20 books in and I just started seeing a profit, last year. IT TAKES TIME to build your fan base and your brand. Don’t get discouraged, instead keep writing and cultivating your gift. It will pay off.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be unapologetically you. Advice I had to tell myself because you’ll lose yourself trying to be anything other that what’s been purposed for your life.

What are you reading now?
Forty-Something Kinda Love by Khara Campbell, The Devil thought he had me by She Nell and a series by Alexandra Warren. Crazy, right? But I read like this.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to continue writing until God says otherwise. Along with some book events, I have planned this year and who knows!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Bible and 3 Notebooks. To write in, of course. That way, by the time I’m found, I’ll have 3 books to release.

Awesome Author - Rachel Bonner

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve got a degree in engineering, and also have a career as a freelance financial modeller so I’m probably not a conventional author. I love the flexibility that being freelance gives me because I can fit writing, work and hobbies around each other. I live in Lancashire, England where the beautiful countryside has influenced some of the scenery in my books. There are some places I describe that really do exist.

I’m also a field archer, which is something I enjoy very much. We shoot indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer – we live in hill country and our outdoor ground isn’t easily accessible in winter. As a club we do a lot of daft – but safe – things to keep shooting fun.

I’ve written a series of four books. The first is Strand of Faith which is already published. The second, Thread of Hope will be released 2nd May 2019, with Weave of Love in October 2019 and Cloth of Grace in February 2020.

The series is a romance, set far in our future after the world has been decimated by a range of cataclysmic events, and some people have developed mental powers. In Strand of Faith, the first book in the series, a monk and a girl fall in love, but they both have compelling reasons to stay apart – and they make different decisions. In Thread of Hope they start to face up to the consequences of those decisions – without knowing that their actions and history will generate further world shattering consequences. Ultimately this series is about people discovering their place in the world, lost and broken people finding love, healing, hope and redemption.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest published book is Strand of Faith, and I’m about to publish the sequel, Thread of Hope.

I know it sounds corny, but I dreamt one scene at the end of what is now Strand of Faith. It was so vivid that I wanted to know what led up to it and what happened next. So I started thinking about that and as the story developed the characters took on lives of their own and I started writing it down. I thought it was just one book – it’s turned into a four book series.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I’m aware of! I write directly on the computer because if I hand write my brain goes faster than the pen and it stops being readable very quickly. I think I am unusual in that I don’t mind being disturbed when I’m writing. I don’t lose my place and I can pick it up again straight away.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have quite a list – some of my favourites include Neil Gaiman, Terry Prachett (Discworld), Jodi Picoult, Annette Marie (urban fantasy), Jodi Taylor (Chronicles of St Mary’s), Sarah Woodbury (After Cilmeri time travel fiction), Trisha Ashley (romance), Diane Gabaldon (Outlander), Anne McCaffery (Dragonrider series). But there are many, many more.

What are you working on now?
The sequel to Strand of Faith, Thread of Hope is almost ready for publication so I’m working on the third book in the series, Weave of Love. That’s due for publication at the beginning of October, so it’s in the rewrite stage before going to my editor in a few weeks. Book 4, Cloth of Grace, which will be out next February is in much the same place.

But I’ve also got a new book idea on the go – fantasy romance again, but this time with angels – which is competing for my time, and a non-fiction book based on letters to my great grandfather …

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t know yet! For me, it’s still very early days. So far I think most of my sales have come from word of mouth, but I’m trying out lots of different options. I’ll keep you posted…

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Work on your marketing early. You’re not just a writer, you’re a business and you need to get your head round more than just the writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Finish it. Always finish it. You can’t do anything with a blank page or half finished book. But once it’s written you can improve it.

What are you reading now?
What I’m reading now is not what I’ll be reading tomorrow, or the day after! I read fast and as much as possible! I’m about to start Laini Taylor’s Night of Cake and Puppets. I’ve got the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series on my Kindle, but my son has bought me a beautiful hardback illustrated edition of this story. After that I’ve got a huge TBR pile – one of my favorite authors, Annette Marie, manages to write several books a year and I need to catch up.

What’s next for you as a writer?
As I mentioned, I’ve got a new book idea on the go – fantasy romance again, but this time with angels. I’m not sure yet whether that’s a standalone or a series. Then there’s a non-fiction book based on letters to my great grandfather from his nephew, which will be rather different, but fascinating.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Very tricky one! I’d bring the Bible (in a modern translation). Or is that cheating because it’s really 66 books? You can find almost every genre in there – romance, erotica, war, thriller, mystery, murder, suspense, psychological drama, family sagas…

And I’d bring my all time favourite, Winnie-the-Pooh. After that – box sets, long series, lots and lots of words to keep me busy!

Awesome Author - Sherry Dillard

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello, I am a children’s book author. I have written two children’s books, “Lola’s Fuzzy Snuggly Blanket” and “That’s Mine!: Will Cruz ever learn to share?” I love writing and the creative process. In my spacetime, I enjoy all sorts of things: “Museums, sewing, theatre, fishing and watching the sunset.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book published is, “That’s Mine!: Will Cruz ever learn to share?” This book was inspired by my grandchildren.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a Spanish version of “Lola’s Fuzzy Snuggly Blanket.” I am super excited that my next book will be out this year.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I really don’t know at this time, trying a lot of different ones.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read a lot and write a lot.

What are you reading now?
I am reading biographies.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Is this question fair? Wow, well, let me think. I will need something really funny to read. I find strange humor in “The Drinker by Hans Fallada.” I would need my Bible. I haven’t read a survival book, but sure one would come in handy. So many books to name all genres.

Awesome Author - B.J. Cyprian

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve only written the one novel so far.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Shadow Resistance is the name of the novel, which is also a series. It was inspired by my experience in the US as a triple minority, (Black, lesbian, female.) These days, it seems like being different is politicized so much that humanity seems to have gotten lost. While the novel was initially written out of anger of the violent shift of the country, it ended up being more of letting people see the lives and thoughts of others who may be different than they are.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Honestly, since Shadow Resistance is my very first novel, I can’t say that I have a great deal of “unusual” habits as I feel like I’m still trying to find habits in general. I *did* manage to write the majority of the 1st draft next to my wife in front of the television. (And I never put anything I saw in the novel, so… bonus?)

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Influenced is a strong word. It’s hard to say an author has fully influenced me because I find that my style is generally unlike anyone I’ve read. I don’t see myself as an author, but a storyteller, so I write the way I would tell a story

That being said, the nuances captured by Dean Koontz, has always influenced me. He has been the 1st author that I read where I truly *felt* the characters more than read them. That’s what I hope I have brought into my writing. I want readers to feel my characters emotions as if they were their own.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m working on the sequel to Shadow Resistance. I also have a couple of other works in progress that I dabble in while I’m piecing out the direction for Book 2.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
When I figure that out, I’ll let you know. Ha! I use Twitter, Goodreads and Facebook. However, I’m not very good at the “social” part of “social media.” I’m hoping putting myself out to more websites, such as Awesome Gang, will garner more interest. I’m a big believer that if my work is good, word of mouth will help. (Probably an idealistic notion, but hey… I’m an artist!)

Do you have any advice for new authors?
All I can say is write from your heart. Write a story you would want to read. Success isn’t just determined by how many books you sell, but how proud you are of the work produced. I probably will retire in 25 years from my same 9-5. I may never be a success, but I can say I’m proud of what I’ve done thus far.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“There is wisdom in the multitude of counsel.” My mom used to tell me that all the time since I was a kid. At first, I truly didn’t understand it, but as I’ve gotten to be an adult, it is something that I repeat quite frequently.

The way I see it, EVERYBODY can’t be wrong. This isn’t just with life experience, but it can apply to self-esteem issues as well. I have always battled with self-esteem and self-worth issues, particularly when I’m trying to put myself out their in various ways. (ie. music & writing.. oh, I’m a musician too.) When my brain tells me how horrible I am, I remember those words and it shifts my focus to what OTHERS have told me over my life.

I mean, what are the odds that EVERYONE but me is wrong?

What are you reading now?
Between work, writing, family and other obligations, my reading has kind of dwindled. However, I did promise my step-daughter that we would read the Harry Potter series together. I haven’t started yet, (shhh, don’t tell her), but that’s what’s next on my reading plan, the Harry Potter series with my kid.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I wish I had a crystal ball to answer this; it would alleviate SO MUCH anxiety! I honestly don’t know. Right now, I just want to write stories that I feel aren’t told, or maybe aren’t told in a way *I* can tell them. I would love to do this for a living. I would love a TV/movie deal so money isn’t a worry and I can just create. But I’m not there yet. So right now, what’s next is that I will carry on with my regular life, while writing what’s in my heart on the side.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. From the Corner of His Eye – Dean Koontz (my all-time favorite book. I could go one for paragraphs why, but just pick it up.)

2. The Count of Monte Cristo – Alexandre Dumas

3. Life Expectancy – Dean Koontz (much less heavy as the 1st one, but it’s still a great read.)

Awesome Author - Ayden K. Morgen

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Ayden. By day, I’m a contemporary romance and New Adult fantasy author. By night, I’m a 911 Dispatch Supervisor. I spend my time leading a team of dispatchers as they watch over our law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel. When I’m not working or writing, I spend my time reading, hiking, watching hockey, and building a Spork Army.

I’ve published fifteen books since 2012, primarily in the contemporary romance genre.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest series is a trio of novellas – Devour Me, Destroy Me, and Defend Me. The series features Roman Gregory, an ATF agent who finds himself hiding out in Santa Cruz after killing a gang member in Los Angeles. While there, the intense attraction between him and his daughter’s twenty-two year old best friend boils over, forcing him to confront the powerful feelings he’s spent four long years trying to deny.

To keep her in his life, he’ll make choices he never could have expected. With a dangerous gang gunning for him, and a cartel war brewing, that’s easier said that done. When Mila’s life is threatened, Roman will break every rule in the book to keep the gorgeous little blonde safe and to secure his future with her.

Roman appears in the final book in the Teplo Trilogy, and this series started as a way for me to get to know more about him. As an undergrad, I spent some time researching drug cartels and their connections to street gangs. His story was so tied to that research, I had to finish it! It’s insane how far cartels are willing to go to expand their territory!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write almost everything by hand and then type it up. I have an unhealthy obsession with colorful gel pens, so everything I write is brightly colored and messy as heck!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are so many! I grew up reading Patricia Cornwell and John Grisham. I love how Patricia Cornwell dives into the lives of characters in the Criminal Justice field. It really is a different, dangerous world out there for law enforcement officers. I appreciate any author who understands that and brings that reality to life.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently completing the third and final book in the Teplo Trilogy, Rapture. In this book, Roman Gregory teams up with Tristan Riley to help him save his ballerina and stop a cartel war. It’s gritty and a little dark at times, but I’m so excited to see these two teaming up to take on the cartel that’s made both of their lives miserable!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Presence, presence, presence! If people don’t know your books exist, they aren’t going to buy them. Advertise where the people are (Facebook, Amazon, newsletters), and do so consistently. It’s also super important to connect with your audience. Let them get to know who you are and build relationships with them!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up! You’re going to have days where you think you’re the most terrible author on the planet. You’re going to have days where you wonder if you’re wasting your time. You’re going to ask yourself if being a writer is worth the hassle. Fight through the doubts and keep going!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Appreciate the heck out of reviewers, but don’t read your book reviews! They aren’t for you, they’re for readers. They will inevitably make you doubt yourself.

What are you reading now?
I just finished The Grumpy Hero by Ethan Mawyer. It was great and made me laugh out loud so many times. Next on my list is Overture by Skye Warren. I’m really looking forward to this one!

What’s next for you as a writer?
After I finish Rapture, I’ll be working on a series of standalone novels featuring some of the officers and federal agents readers met in previous books. Michael Kincaid’s story (Fight for You) is first. His story is so emotional and powerful. I have a feeling I’m going to cry my way through writing it!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Can I count the Wizard of Oz collection as one book? Please say yes. 🙂 I’d also bring Candide by Voltaire, because it’s my all-time favorite. I love any and everything by J.M. Darhower or Melanie Moreland, so I have to bring something by one of them. And Wizard and Glass by Stephen King. I’d also bring along a How-To Guide on surviving. Because, let’s face it, I know nothing about building shelter.
