Awesome Author - Jared Barlament

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a high schooler living in the United States, and I’ve written two books thus far. The first, The Plight of a People, has been out since October 16th of 2017. I actually started it as a New Year’s resolution back in 2016. Miraculously enough, I stuck with it, and it has been my greatest claim to fame since its publication.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My second book is entitled The Agony of an Age, and it is slated for release on October 16th of 2018. It is mostly inspired by my unending fascinations with history and philosophy, as there are very few books out there that can claim to contain both. I based many of the events in my stories off of historical happenings, and a plethora of tidbits of my personal philosophy seeped into the pages as well.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Why, don’t we all? I am only ever able to write in the evenings. No matter how many variables I change, the words I string together at any other time of day always end up being inferior. It baffles me just as much as it baffles all who I tell, but I have learned to live with it.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have, without a doubt, been most influenced by the classics. The grandiose tales of the Iliad, the Odyssey, the Bible, and the Divine Comedy have all enriched my writing immeasurably. Rarely do I read modern fiction, but this does not mean I hold any grudges against it. I merely aim to write in a style that has not been popular for many decades, thus making it most sensible for me to read other stories also written in that style.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m working fervently on promoting The Agony of an Age. This is not my only project, though. The third and final book in the series is in the first stages of its creation right now. Hopefully, I can have it released on October 16th of 2019. As is perhaps rather evident, I don’t like to waste my time.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have found it a rather massive struggle to promote my many works. Overall, I have had the most success promoting to local institutions and groups. People are typically far more responsive in the real world than they are online.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
There are only two real mistakes an author can make, and those are to stop reading and to stop writing. To abandon one’s craft is to abandon one’s future, and writers must never forget this. We have chosen a particularly unforgiving path for ourselves, but there is still a reason we do what we do.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I don’t tend to get any advice from people I know personally, but that is quite alright with me. The Internet, when used properly, is the greatest source of wisdom ever known to man. I believe the most striking quote of advice I have ever come across is by Carl Jung, who said that “the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.” Nothing else so concisely sums up my journey to make something of myself.

What are you reading now?
I just finished reading the entirety of the Bible. Although I do love to read, I figured the time that it takes to do so should be directed towards promotion for the time being. When The Agony of an Age is released, I intend to begin reading again, but I have no idea what book I’ll end up picking off of my pile.

What’s next for you as a writer?
As mentioned, I am beginning my work on my third novel. In addition to this, I have been publishing articles on a variety of intellectual topics for over a year now, and I am not planning to cease their production anytime soon.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well, I might as well take the longest books I can, considering I may be stuck there for quite some time. I have yet to read much religious literature, so I think the Quran and the Mahabharata would be essential additions to my hypothetical luggage. Perhaps I’d even take along Man and His Symbols by Carl Jung, as his work as always greatly interested me.

Awesome Author - Jeff Jackson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Jeff Jackson, I am a former professional baseball player. I was drafted in the 1st round of the 1989 Major League Baseball Draft straight out of Neal F. Simeon H.S. on the south side of Chicago, at the age of 17. This is the first book that I have written with the help of my co-author Dana Jones. I wrote this book because ” For years I set back and let the media re-account to the world their rendition of what they considered to be the truth about my career, without knowing the facts. I grew tired of reading negative comments about myself, and my time with the Phillies in sports blogs on the internet, so I decided it was finally time I changed the narrative of my baseball career, and share my true story ”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“The Gift and the Curse” The Jeff Jackson Story is the name of my latest book…I would have to say my inspiration came from my mother and my kids. My family means everything to me and I just wanted to make them proud of me, and to show them that you can do whatever you put your mind to if you have the will, courage, and faith.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write late at night or early in the morning while everyone is still asleep

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Napoleon Hill ” Think and Grow Rich”

What are you working on now?
I’m really just focused on this project at the moment…I would first like to have some success with this book before I move on to another book or project.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
right now I just promote from my facebook fan page…but looking to expand other promotional opportunities..

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice would be don’t give up when it seems to get hard or rough and/or maybe hit a brick wall. Just keeping pushing thru and you will be happy that you did once the project is finished…

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To be honest, the best advice I ever heard is simple, and that treat people like you would want them to treat you!

What are you reading now?
nothing at the moment just focused on my own book and brand for now!

What’s next for you as a writer?
well, I would like to turn my book into a script. I think my story would translate into a great film in my humble opinion.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
you have me stumped with this question, but it would be books that dealt with spirituality for sure…

Awesome Author - Kim Masson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a journalist and author, but really I’m just a native New Yorker trying to survive in the concrete jungle. Usually you can catch me on the subway armed with a pen in my hand, easing-dropping on people’s conversations. There are tons interesting stories out there and I sure as hell don’t want to miss them! Growing up in a city known for insomnia gives me a plenty of inspiration.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Craig’s List Chronicles: byte-size tales is my latest book.

The idea first came after I placed a fake ‘Missed Connections’ ad on Craigslist. It was late at night, I was bored, and my fingers were itchy to write something. What came out was an insane ship-crossing story that took place on the Brooklyn bound F-train. A mullet, golden ballet slippers and Harry Potter set the stage. I hit publish, went to bed and thought nothing of it. To my shock, the next day hundreds of emails were sitting in my inbox from people claiming to have seen me! When I met my husband on Craigslist ten years later, I knew I had a book worth writing.

Books are birthed in the strangest places. I like to say Craig’s List Chronicles: byte-size tales was conceived online and delivered during rush hour at the Brooklyn Smith Street subway station.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing day starts when everyone is returning from work. Does this count as unusual? I’m usually at my desk by five p.m. and don’t stop writing until nine in the evening. Afterwards, I pretend I’m a Spaniard and eat a light dinner close 10 p.m. I’ve tried writing earlier in the day but it doesn’t fit. I figure, I’ve been a night owl my whole life, there’s no need to fix what ain’t broken.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Elmore Lenord, Roz Chast, Carl Hiaasen, Oscar Wilde, Virginia Wolfe, T.C. Boyle, Helen Fielding, and Anthony Bourdain all fight for space on my bookshelf.

When I’m feeling a bit broody, I reach for classics like Love in the Time of Cholera, Old Man in the Sea or books that take me to foreign places.

Any wordsmith who can spin sentences into pure gold will steal my heart any day of the week .

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on a collection of short stories set in my hometown of NYC. It’s chock full of urban legends, crazy taxi rides, walls that talk, hipster invasions and Brooklyn nanny brigades.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesome Gang, naturally! I’m also pretty fond of promoting books on my own website.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read, write, edit, repeat. Don’t listen to others, just write what’s in your head. When it’s time to edit, learn to love the process. Each draft will make you a better writer.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
No one ever said writing was easy. If that were the case, everyone would be a novelist! You need to show up and work. Waiting for the muse does nothing for word counts. Small achievements lead to big ones.

What are you reading now?
Less by Alexander Greene and Hits & Misses by Simon Rich.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Another deadline I’m hustling to finish.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
This is easy: Rum Making for Dummies, A Survivor’s Guide for Being Stranded on a Desert Island & An Omnivores Dilemma for when I need to meditate on things.

Awesome Author - Frank Morin

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write Epic Fantasy! I’ve always loved BFEF (Big Fat Epic Fantasy), from David Eddings to Raymond E. Feist to Robert Jordan to Brandon Sanderson, so that’s what I write. My Epic YA fantasy series – The Petralist – is Big Magic, Big Adventure, and Lots of Humor. The adventure keeps building through every book, along with the magic, both deepening and broadening, escalating toward the final explosive finale in book six, due out next year.

The first four books in the main series are released: Set in Stone, A Stone’s Throw, No Stone Unturned, and Affinity for War. I’ve also released the first side novella in the series – When Torcs Fly – detailing the early adventures of a couple of the side characters who have become fan favorites. More side stories are planned in between books five and six. Book five – The Queen’s Quarry – is in the editing process and will rocket the series to a whole new level.

Set in Stone introduces the unique and intricate magic system, based on rocks, and every book in the series delves deeper into the magic and explores new concepts. One of my daughters dubbed the series the first Stone Punk because of how the magic is triggering a magical industrial revolution.

I also write time travel historical fantasy thrillers – The Facetakers. Think Mission Impossible meets Inception meets Timeline! It’s fast action, hard-hitting, super-cool history, with magic fueled by the power of human souls.

Saving Face, Memory Hunter, and Rune Warrior are released already in this series, with one more book still to come. Saving Face is a prequel novella and it introduces the main character, Sarah, in her story before she gets dragged into the time traveling adventure.

History is not what the books claim it is, and when history becomes the battlefield, there is no safe place to hide!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I recently released Affinity for War, book four of the main Petralist series. This book continues the adventures of Connor and his friends as the war they’ve long feared erupts across the continent and they get swept up into the center of massive battles and deadly intrigue.

I also released When Torcs Fly, the first prequel side novella in the Petralist world. It details the hilarious early adventures of Tomas and Cameron, and couple of deadly warriors, but who are dumber than a box of rocks.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t consider myself super unusual, although I’m an author so that already moves me squarely into the unusual category. For my last two novels, I’ve switched to dictating the majority of the first draft. That allows me to go for walks or hikes while I work. I spent a few days on the Oregon coast walking in the sand while dictating several chapters a day. I had a blast doing that, but it’s a very different kind of writing and it took quite a bit of work to re-train myself to become efficient with it. I think I’m starting to get it, though. The first draft of Petralist book Five – The Queen’s Quarry – turned out fantastic.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve always loved reading. Influencers included J.R.R. Tolkien, David Eddings, Raymond E. Feist, Robert Jordan, and more recently Brandon Sanderson.

As a youth, I read widely, everything I could get my hands on, but I rarely paid attention to the author’s name. I’m embarrassed to say that now, but I was so eager to dive into the next story I didn’t really focus on the book title or the author, and so I’ve lost touch with some of my favorite books. I just remember them as that awesome book with that really cool character, and in my mind I see several of my favorite scenes, but have no idea who wrote them. Pretty sad really. Kids, don’t do what I did – remember book titles. You’ll thank me later.

What are you working on now?
I have tons of projects in the works. I set aggressive milestones for myself because that motivates me to work hard. I need to finish edits to The Queen’s Quarry, write another side novella in the Petralist world, finish the last Facetakers book, write the first draft of Petralist book six, start another completely new series I’m super excited about, and hopefully get around to finally publishing the first two books in my other epic fantasy series. Those are a few of the big ones.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
In the past, word of mouth and Facebook helped a ton. Amazon ebooks have been my biggest seller by far, but I haven’t done my marketing in the past. Sales have been good, but I’m looking to get into the next level of audience, so I’m beginning a marketing push. We’ll see how it goes.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every day! And become part of the community. Writing is tough and often lonely, but there’s tons of support out there if you’re willing to step into the light and look for it. Writers are among the most helpful and supportive group I know. We’ve all been helped by someone, so most of us are eager to help the next person in line.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Sit down and write. Period.
Love what you do and be your own biggest fan. If you don’t love your work, how will anyone else love it?
Enjoy the journey. Writing is a long road – so make sure to enjoy the process.

What are you reading now?
I rarely have time to read much these days, but when I do I usually grab a Jim Butcher novel or a Brandon Sanderson novel, or a book from one of the authors I’m friends with. I’ve also started studying marketing books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep writing! I hope to also attend more conventions next year. I’ve made it to several different comicons, including Salt Lake City, Dallas, Emerald City, Rose City (Portland), as well as World Fantasty Con, LTUE in Prov, and the annual Superstars of Writing Seminar. In 2019 I also hope to finally make it to Dragon Con!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Building a Sailboat for Dummies
The Book of Mormon
1001 Ways to Cook Fish
The Hobbit

Awesome Author - Brandi Benson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Brandi Benson. I am an American Writer, Speaker, Business Owner, and Cancer Survivor. I am the founder and CEO of Resume-Advantage, an employment service for both civilians and transitioning military veterans. I have recently published a book called The Enemy Inside me. My debut memoir tells the touching story of my Ewing Sarcoma diagnosis during my deployment in Iraq in 2008. I have a BA in Mass Communications and Journalism at Ashford University and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing at the Savannah College of Art and Design. With this second chance at life, I am dedicated to helping fellow cancer survivors in any way I can. My dreams are to be an ambassador for Ewing Sarcoma and to spread the word about this rare and aggressive cancer. I am a newly published author.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my current book is The Enemy Inside Me. My inspiration came from a personal experience that I had in 2009 while I was deployed in Iraq. I was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. It’s about my very true accounts of being a soldier during the Iraqi war, the experiences I had before becoming an inpatient on Ward 71 at Walter Reed Medical Center in DC, the great lengths I traveled for treatment, and my battle with God and my religion. Out of this experience, the old Brandi Benson did die, and a new and more gracious Brandi Benson was born. I remember writing in my journal and making a promise to myself. I told myself, that if I lived, I would turn this experience into a book, publish it and become an ambassador for Ewing Sarcoma to help those who have walked this same line.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I actually do. Before I write, I have to get in the mood, and I have to clear and clean my space. For example, I am working on a children’s book right now, and part of my unusual writing habit is cleaning my entire house. While I am cleaning, I will put a cartoon on and listen to it. I don’t watch it, but I hear it. After I am done cleaning, I’ll make an outline out and then put another cartoon on and watch it this time. I will then eat something, then go to the gym and bring my outline and ponder on what my characters look like, where did they come from, how or where should my story take place, what do they look like. After a long process of thinking, I begin my drafts. I am incredibly detailed, and I bring my characters to life.

With all of my writing, I do a deep clean in my home before I start on any project. It is my way of clearing the space in my mind. I feel like I can concentrate better when my house is clean. There are no distractions.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
All the authors and books that influence me are written in great detail or have a lesson that I will learn from reading the material. I really enjoy reading Lisa Jackson, who is known for her romantic suspense novels. Her attention to detail and her ability to draw the reader in is impressive. I also love David Foster Wallace; my favorite piece by him is Ticket to the Fair. The story was written back in 1994 and is about him being at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. The account is vivid, hysterical and written well.

What are you working on now?
Right now I have a few sticks in the fire. I am working on two different books, one is about the art of selling yourself to employers, and the other is a children’s book. Besides writing books, I am working on opening up a nonprofit foundation for military service members who were deployed and return back with cancer. This foundation will help them with the transitions from both being deployed and returning as well as learning to accept the new you. There will be an area where these individuals will also get help with employment services as well – learning how to write a winning resume, how to sell themselves to employers, social media etiquettes, learn how to write a cover letter, professional bio … I think it is essential that military service members are taken care of when they get out into the civilian sector.
I remember being medically retired and going through a program that was supposed to help me transition back, they did a terrible job at writing my resume and I honestly felt lost. I want to prevent others from experiencing this.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I think the best method for promoting a book is community involvement, radios, podcasts, and features in magazines, social media. Every outlet is a great platform to speak about new material that you’re trying to get to the masses.

As for my businesses, I am using social media, community engagement, and my PR team.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for a new author is to keep a journal where you can be honest and judgment-free. This is a great place to think about ideas, write what you think about life, your emotions, what you honestly feel. The second piece of advice I would give is to read. Start reading material that moves you. You cannot be a writer if you’re not a reader. The last thing is to write a little every day, even if it is just a paragraph. Just get it out on paper.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I have heard so many great things in my life, but two have truly stuck with me and no matter where I am in my life, they always apply to me. The first one is from my mother, she would always tell me not to make permanent choices off of temporary feelings. The second one is following your passion in life. Doing this gives us a sense of purpose, and with purpose, we feel love and proud of what we’re doing.

What are you reading now?
Right now I am reading about how to run a successful small business. I’ve also been watching many YouTube videos on this, as well as researching successful companies. Doing a small SWOT analysis to see where I can improve.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I really enjoy travelling and seeing new places. I want to go to Africa to visit my roots. I want to see where my ancestors are from and the culture there. I have also decided to train for the Paralympics Games, Olympic events for athletes with disabilities. I have been an athlete my entire life, and I would like to continue to compete. I would love to experience these events and write about them.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
First, that sounds like a very unfortunate situation ☺ .
1. SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the WIlD, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea. This is a great book to get into survival mode with.
2. Some sort of plant identification encyclopedia. I would not have the courage to kill an animal; so eating (safe) figs are my best bet.
3. Something that includes several centuries’ worth of history, mythology, poetry, philosophy.

Awesome Author - Kristy McCaffrey

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an Arizona native and have been writing since I was a young girl. I published my first book in 2003. I write historical western romances, but I’ve recently branched out into contemporary adventure romance.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A Murder of Crows is Book 3 in The Crow Series, a collection of short, spooky novellas set in the Old West. I’ve always been fascinated with the supernatural, and since I love Halloween it seemed natural to write a series of romantic reads with mysterious bounty hunter heroes and the women who turn their worlds upside down.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I mostly need structure, so I like to write at my desk on a regular schedule.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite book of all time is ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen. It’s such a perfect depiction of restraint and artistry in the evolution of a romance.

What are you working on now?
I’ve got two projects going: I’m finishing COLD HORIZON, a full-length novel in my Pathway Series. It’s a contemporary adventure about climbing K2, the second highest mountain in the world. I’m also writing a book in a multi-author project. ROSEMARY will be Book 11 in the Widows of Wildcat Ridge series, a collection of sweet historical western romances.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I really can’t say that any one thing works for me. I dabble everywhere: my website, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, BookBub, my newsletter, and paid advertising at Amazon.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Surround yourself with writers better than you and pay attention.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Follow through and finish. You can’t publish and promote if you don’t complete projects.

What are you reading now?
I’ve been reading Highlander romances, and I’ve recently discovered Alyson McLayne. She’s got a wonderful series. Tanya Anne Crosby and Suzan Tisdale also have great Scottish romances. I suppose I like to read something different than what I write.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ve got two more books in my Pathway series in the works, and I’m planning a new Old West series in the style that I like: gritty and romantic.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen

WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes

PEARL COVE by Elizabeth Lowell (I named my daughter after the heroine)

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK by Donald F. Glut (It was the first time I was shocked by a plot twist. I was 13 years old.)

Awesome Author - C. M. Blasco

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a young author from Spain, and ever since my teenage years I’ve always liked to create stories in my mind. That’s why I studied cinema for a couple of years, and videogame development for another couple, since I always loved those mediums to tell stories. However, the time and budget required for those kinds of projects is enormous, and that’s why I decided to focus on writing, since that’s something that everyone can do. Still, the fact that everyone can do it doesn’t mean everyone can do it right, which is why I want to keep writing to improve and become a good author. If that will happen or will just be a failed dream remains to be seen.

For now, I’ve only written this book, but I plan on writing more.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Soulless Creatures: Heart Scars.

The inspiration for this book comes from many different sources, mostly video games. It was very different when I first got the idea, but it has got elements from “The Last of Us” and “F.E.A.R.” games. The influence from TLOU comes by the relationship that “Joel” and “Ellie” share in that game. The influence from F.E.A.R. is that I always loved horror, even though it was easy to get me scared when I was a kid, I loved scary movies and games.
Back then, F.E.A.R. was one of if not the most scary game you could get, and in that game there’s a innocent-looking little girl that has nothing resembling innocence in her. That little girl named Alma from that videogame series is what mostly inspired one of my two protagonists in my book. I just love the contrast between something that looks defenceless but that can bring horror into anyone’s eyes.
Another big influence were “anime” series such as “Overlord” or any average anime protagonist. That cliche protagonist is sort of what inspired the other main character for my book, though I tried to make it as grounded in reality as I could.
Another obvious inspiration would be the movie “Let me in” about a little vampire. Again, the contrast between innocence and horror is what I love about that movie.

Overall, I’d say I got influenced by everything that got in my way ever since I have memory, even if it was in the slightest. And for that I want to thank every other author out there who share their incredible stories with the world. They fed my imagination and my dreams, and that’s something incredible.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think I spent enough time writing to get any weird habits doing so, but they will come with time, probably.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on promoting my first book, and afterwards I’ll start working on the sequel.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ll be able to answer this once I’m done with the promotion of my book. This is an answer I myself would like to know!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Writing is easy, getting your work out there not so much. Don’t let that disencourage you, if you like writing, keep writing, even if it’s only for yourself. If you really want your book to get to the readers, instead of getting disencouraged, work hard to promote it, and even harder to become an even better writer.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I don’t know if it’s the best advice, but it’s the most related to this.

“The work that you enjoy isn’t work.”

Which means that if you enjoy something, doing it isn’t a chore. I spent 5 or 6 months writing this book, and let me tell you, writing isn’t always fun and games, but I did it either way because the passion for my story overcame everything else. In other words, do what you want to do, and you’ll surprise yourself with what you can achieve.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Improving my writing, getting known as an author even if by a little audience of readers, and keep writing more books!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If that were to happen, I would either choose books that improved my survival chances on the island, or books filled with jokes. It’s very important to stay positive and laugh even on the direst of the situations!

Awesome Author - Michael De Sapio

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write articles, essays and other journalistic pieces for a variety of cultural journals, both print and online. I am also, on the side, a professional musician (violinist). My topics of interest are music, religion, and culture generally. “Joey Coletta” is my first screenplay, and it has been great fun from start to finish.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“The Incredible Life of Joey Coletta” is an homage to the classic family situation comedies of the 1950s and ’60s – shows like “Leave It to Beaver,” “Father Knows Best,” “The Andy Griffith Show.” I was raised on those old shows and have always admired their wisdom and charm. My screenplay is about an average young boy named Joey Coletta, who auditions for a family sitcom in Hollywood on a whim and wins the lead role. We follow him as he deals with the trials and tribulations of child stardom in the late 1950s: temperamental directors, unscrupulous entertainment journalists, as well as his parents’ crumbling marriage. The story is full of whimsy and charm, and is in places very poignant.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I rarely if ever write my essays from beginning to end in sequence; instead I piece them together from brief sentence fragments, which gradually coalesce into a coherent form. I write very slowly. On any given day I might spend more time studying my subject matter than actually writing. Samuel Johnson once said that a person has to read a whole shelf full of books in order to write one book.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I especially like the great writers of the Christian tradition, from the Bible all the way through G.K. Chesterton (especially his book “Orthodoxy”), C.S. Lewis, Pope Benedict XVI, and others. Chesterton had a way of combining lightness and profundity that I admire. I suppose the biggest influence on “Joey Coletta” was the family sitcoms themselves, whose whimsical spirit I tried to capture. It is a genre that I believe has not been given its due by serious critics.

What are you working on now?
I am starting on a new screenplay. It is a period drama set in the early 1800s in America, something that I think has rarely been done. Needless to say, I hope that all my screenplays will some day be filmed, but in the meantime I hope that they can be read with pleasure as works of literature.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That is something I have yet to discover, but I hope I am finding out!

What’s next for you as a writer?
To complete my second screenplay, and to continue my cultural commentary.

Awesome Author - Wisteria D. Jones

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m just a writer who’s in love with making stories, characters, and worlds to share with others. I moved away from my home in America to live and work in Japan. Writing is my passion, and gaining a better view of the world at large was my first step to building a career out of my writing. I have a lovely cat, a supportive partner, and the will to go as far as I can as an author and creative mind.

Starting in November of 2017 and ending in October 2019, I’ll have published 12 unique series through Amazon (even if it kills me to stay on schedule).

As of October 2018, I’ve published “The Darkrock”, “The Labyrinth City”, “The 12 Mile Course”, “The Generational War”, and “The Maydale Hauntings”. The next titles I’ll be publishing this year and next will be, “The Horrors of Redemption”, “The Forgotten Murder”, “The Servants of the Fallen”, “The Curse of the Dog”, “The Dreams of Reality”, “The Week of Karma”, and one untitled series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest series I’ve published is called “The Maydale Hauntings”. I was inspired to try my hand at writing suspense and horror due to my love of the genre in regards to film and media. Although they may scare me so badly that I can’t sleep soundly for a week, I enjoy watching horror films and reading frightening tales. Many of the scary instances I wrote about are from real life experiences and fears that I generally have in regards to the paranormal.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
To keep all my thoughts on each series in check, I keep several notebooks with spaces for my upcoming works inside. Even if there is no actual outline written down yet, there is a always a rough layout or space for each series so that it has its own place in a notebook for when I begin to flesh out my outlines.

After I finish writing a series, I fold the pages with that series’ outline, tape them into a trangular shape, and cut them out of the notebook they resided in. They are then placed in a special drawer in my desk with other outlines from finished series. By the time I’m down to the last series in a given notebook, there’s only a handful of pages left. I don’t know why I started doing this, but it’s become an unbreakable habit. I don’t even know what I’ll do with the outlines in the future, but they’re there regardless.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Timmothy Zahn has taught me the value of showing rather than telling your reader about the world your book is situated in.

Eoin Colfer inspired me to not be afraid to mix the “real world” with fantasy.

J.K. Rowling instilled upon me the importance of never giving up, no matter how many rejections you may face.

David Thoreau showed me that it’s important to stand up for what you believe in, no matter how much people might not like you for it.

Hilari Bell proved to me that even the simplest ideas can become amazing stories filled with unbelievable twists.

Christopher Paolini made me realize the important of researching and developing for world building.

What are you working on now?
Presently I’m finishing up “The Horrors of Redemption” series. A bit of horror is mixed in with suspense, mystery, gore, and fantasy in this tale of a man who seeks nothing but to escape his past. Teaming up with an untrustworthy guide, Spencer has no clue what the future holds for him; though at the very least, he was promised that redemption would be his. With nothing left to lose and a long road ahead, it’ll be quite the journey of danger and disaster for the unlikely pair to face together.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
At this point in time: word of mouth, Reddit, my personal website (www.wisteriadjones.com), and any other sites I come across with the option to promote my works are all viable options. Since I’m about to reach the halfway mark in my series writing goal, I’ve decided to begin seriously working on marketing and promotion. I’m hopeful Awesome Gang will be a big help.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. Whether you’re still in the idea process, working on your writing, struggling through the editing and proofreading, or throwing your work at anyone and everyone you can, it’s not an easy journey.

Many authors get descouraged at the first sign of failure. Don’t be. Even the most successful authors have to go through rejections and failures before they finally succeed. If writing and getting published were easy, then everyone would be doing it. If you stay strong and believe in your work, chances are someone else will, too.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice someone has ever given me about writing is that it’s not an exact science. I tend to be very analytical about things, and as such I feel like there’s some set formula I have to follow in order to produce quality work. In reality, there’s no actual structure to creating an amazing piece of work. Not everyone will like something that doesn’t follow the norm, but those that do will be grateful to have it. In a world of mundane, copy-paste types of work, don’t be afraid to let your uniqueness stand out above the crowd.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading the Harry Potter series translated to Japanese. This is so that I can 1) revisit a series that I loved as a child and still love today, and 2) practice my language skills due to the fact that I’m living and working in a foreign country where very few people speak my native language.

I’m always looking for translated works to revisit stories I love while also studying a new language.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After I publish “The Horrors of Redemption” at the end of October, I’ll still have six more series to publish before I reach my goal.

After I’ve published 12 series on Amazon, I plan to start writing novels to be traditionally published. The road ahead looks to be paved with rejection and hardship, but I relish the chance to continue writing and hopefully start my career as a full-time author.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
This is tough. I love re-reading books, and am not sure I’d chance taking something I’ve never read before with me in case it doesn’t stand up to something I know I love. I’m also a big fan of series, so it’s hard to choose stand-alone pieces. I guess I’d take:

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

The Goblin Wood by Hilari Bell

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

The Clan of the Cavebear by Jean M. Auel

Awesome Author - SHERABIM JOY

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi I am a Christian author. My first novel “After the Benediction” was released on September 1, 2018. I also have two non-fiction titles “Heart of a Woman: Motherhood, Marriage, Ministry, and Money”, and “Life Won’t Wait.” I have another Christian novel due out at the end of this year along with my first children’s book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest project is entitled, that I am currently promoting, is “After the Benediction.” Having been raised in the Pentecostal Black church I have been exposed to the realities of of life “outside of the pulpit.” I was beginning to grow concerned with so much of the dram and controversy that has been publicized in recent years. I concluded that something must be going on with leaders, “After the Benediction.” This book serves as a catalyst to encourage leaders to confront their personal issues and remember the purpose for which Christ has called them to.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not unusual…perhaps creative. I honestly accomplish a lot of “writing” on the notes section of my Iphone. It is a convenient, effective, and subtle way to accomplish my writing tasks during my down times.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Christian authors such as Bishop TD Jakes and Tyler Perry have influenced me, along with Indie authors such as Sharel Gordon Love.

What are you working on now?
My second novel “Mema’s Pretty Little Black Girls” is due out by the end of this year.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I promote heavily in Christian FB reader groups as well as on Instagram.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would encourage new authors to begin building a reader platform prior to releasing their work. It will make it easier to market your product once it becomes available because you will have already established a loyal readership.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep pressing…don’t stop because of closed doors. Keep knocking..eventually the right door will open to you.

What are you reading now?
I honestly have several books from fellow Indie authors that is on my reading list. Time has not allowed me to read them yet as I’m still in the crux of my own writing projects.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Film!!! I have a script available but am seeking production placement.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, a dictionary, and a notebook so I could write.

Awesome Author - Camille Murray

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a country girl, really, and always have been. I love goats, and goat milk, and I love being a crunchy mama. I’ve written three novels to date. Actually I write under the pen name “Camille Esther,” so if you see books by Camille Esther, you’ll know that’s me.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent novel is titled Doctor and King, and it is actually a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. I started thinking to myself, “what real-life events would give rise to a legend like the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty?” So, Doctor and King is my imagination of how such a story would have started, without any fairies or magic.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to write by hand. It just works better for my creativity, I guess. But it makes it harder, because then I have to type everything into the computer. So…I kind of go back and forth on that, based on my time constraints.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I can name a few that really inspire me. Treasure Island was always one of my favorites. The Gammage Cup, Coral Island, and The Chronicles of Narnia. There are others, of course, but those are some of the top ten. Always adventure, and a lot of historical fiction as well.

What are you working on now?
I’m actually working on more than one project, but one of them is a story about a milkmaid. I grew up milking goats, and I guess I wanted to work some of that into a story.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, AMS ads have worked best for me.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up; and listen to the advice other authors give you. (Don’t listen to non-authors; they won’t know the right things to tell you.)

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Work so that at the end of every day you can look back and see one small thing that you did towards your goals. Even if it is small, it is a step forward.

What are you reading now?
The Worth of a King by Kendra Ardnek.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Um, more writing, ha ha. Seriously, though, I need to expand my series, and learn more marketing tactics.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible.
Crescent Tides by Aaron Gruben
A book on survival
Another book on survival

I’m a newbie to the publishing world, but I’ve been writing stories since I was about twelve. Fanfiction is great practice.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
‘My Mother’s Dragon’ wasn’t easy to write, but it was needed so I could move on from my mother’s poor choices. I didn’t think a memoir would be my first publication!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Short sentences. Repetition. More short ones. Just for feelings. Then some meandering bit that brings us back to the plot at hand and gets us going again.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Nancy Werlin, David Almond, along with the plethora of books we were forced to read in high school.

What are you working on now?
Next on the list is either a short horror anthology or a fantasy anthology. We’ll see where that takes me.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Fiverr is good for cheap and quick promotions, but nothing beats your own social media.

Do you have any advice for new authors?

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a content marketing strategist and I work as an advisor for zavesti.com.
The Blogger Trailmap is my first book published in my own name. However I have written and edited many books for creative entrepreneurs and corporate marketing teams as part of my job.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is, “The Blogger Trailmap: How to Take Your Blog to the Next Level in Easy Steps.”

Despite the fact that blogs have been around for so long there doesn’t exist a single concise guide which gives no nonsense advice for bloggers. You can end up spending weeks and even years if you start following the confusing and often misleading advice on the internet.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I need to be relaxed to write meaningful content. If you wanted me to write something this very moment I would probably push back and ask for more time – I would need to relax, even take a walk, have a cup of tea before I can attack your topic.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ogilvy on Advertising by David Ogilvy is one of my most favorite books. It comes from someone who has been there and done that.

What are you working on now?
I am helping the zavesti team create marketing resources for self published authors.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
zavesti.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t forget to focus on selling. Writing is only one side of the equation.

Try, try, try till you succeed.

What are you reading now?
My manuscript for a new book for self published authors 🙂

What’s next for you as a writer?

Awesome Author - Edward Van Houten

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a mainly self-taught guitar player with nearly 20 years of experience with my instrument. I started taking lessons at the age of 13 but got quickly discouraged by the not-so-inspiring methods of my guitar teacher. As a result, I stopped taking lessons altogether and gave up playing completely for a while. Later, I picked up the guitar again and started learning on my own terms, doing what inspired me. I started with fingerstyle guitar, but I’ve been focusing on the rock guitar for at least five years now. My mission is to help all aspiring and beginning guitar players out there, regardless of age, background and experience. I want to help them get a better start at playing the greatest instrument of all.

I’m a qualified language teacher, and have lived and travelled the world. I guess meeting so many people around the world in different circumstances has made me realize that music truly is universal and brings everyone together even if you don’t have a common language. That’s why I want to help spread the love by sharing my knowledge.

I just published my first book and I’m currently in the process of working on the sequels of the same series as well as several other books.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest, and also my first, book is the first part in my Mastering the Rock Guitar series. The title of the book is Guitar: Mastering the Rock Essentials – Practical Skills for the Complete Beginner.

I started learning the guitar as a teenager with a guitar instructor but I found his methods extremely boring and not inspiring. Now, after nearly twenty years of teaching myself to play, I decided to share what I have learned along the way to help others get a better start than I did. It may have taken me twenty years to get to where I am now as a player, but you can learn the same things in just a fraction of that time because I’m showing you all the right things in my books. That’ll save you a lot of time and frustration.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really, I do pretty much the same thing as most writers: grab my laptop and go get a latte at my favorite coffee shop. 🙂

What authors, or books have influenced you?
As I’m writing instructional non-fiction content for guitar learners, I can’t really say that there’s much influence to be seen in that particular area. However, I’m a big fan of John Grisham, so if I ever venture into fiction, I’m sure he’ll have a big influence on me.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on the next part of my Mastering the Rock Guitar series. As I always present the practical techniques and the theory in different books, I’m actually working on two books at the moment.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m pretty new at this but so far I’ve found out that social media is a great tool for promoting your books. Awesome Gang seems legit too. 🙂

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just get started! Consistency is key, because you don’t write a book in a day. Start a habit of writing 30 minutes a day and you’ll see some amazing results. It gets easier with time but if you never start, you never get better.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Consistency is key in everything. In writing, working out, life in general, everything. Consistency.

What are you reading now?
John Grisham’s The Brethren

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to finish my Mastering the Rock Guitar series and that way help as many aspiring guitarists as I can. After that, I’ll probably try my wings as a fiction writer… 😉

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Street Lawyer by John Grisham, The Big Questions – The Universe by Stuart Clark and A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking

Awesome Author - Adam Mann

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Adam Mann (which is a pen name) has worked for over 50 years in what is called “developing economies”. Most of the time his work has been with the thousands of small scale farmers, who have appreciated sustainable livelihoods, so that they now have enough food to feed themselves, and also some produce to sell so that they have a cash income. That is why most of Adam’s novels are set in these remote rural locations in Africa and for the last twenty five years in Asia.
Four years ago Adam finally retired and started writing and has now produced 38 fantasy romance books, ten of which have been traditionally published, and the others self-published at Smashwords and Amazon KDP.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Gorgeous at Forty
The story is loosely based on personal experience, with at lot of imagination added.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I get the story in my head I just start writing, like 3,000 words a day. I use Excel to keep track of my characters and words written for each chapter.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve read about a lot of authors on Facebook, You Tube, and essentially Twitter.

What are you working on now?
I’ve just self-published on Pre-Order “Gorgeous at Forty” and am now working on a new Box Set for three of my love stories based in Asian locations, and with some characters actually Asians.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t know. I’ve written a lot, and find Smashwords very helpful. Ten of my books are published by traditional eBook publishers, but they sell less than me.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
No.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write and be damned.

What are you reading now?
Zulu Hart by Saul David.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Promoting my novels

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I wouldn’t, but if there’s space for 4 books, how about more useful things like a axe or machete, and a flint for fire lighting.

One of my books, published by Phaze Books, is BODY HEAT based on TV program “Survival” where characters are stranded in remote forest.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
It took me ten years to write this novel, mostly due to no time while raising kids. My habits in writing are I have to go somewhere inspiring and lock myself in a room for a few days at a time to get anything done. Not the best way to write a book as it took too long. My next one will be much faster now that my youngest is off at college.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Frank Peretti, Francine Rivers, Pearl S. Buck, Philippa Gregory, Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton.

What are you working on now?

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, be prepared to work your booty off. This business is not for slackers. Learning a new industry is like earning a new degree so don’t be too hard on yourself and learn to have thick skin. Find the readers who like your niche.

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you all the desires of your heart. – King David
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you’ve always got. -Anonymous

Awesome Author - James Thornton

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
After I dropped out of high school at 16 due to severe anxiety, I started working as a freelance programmer. Shockingly, that only managed to make my anxiety worse, until, at around 22, it came to a pitch and I had a complete breakdown. Thankfully that was right around the time of the 2016 election, and I started freelance political writing. I loved writing but hated the death threats, so I began work on my first short stories.

Outside of writing and reading, I enjoy sports, esports, and turf management.

I have written 4 books and released 1.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Homecoming is my most recent book, and quite frankly I have no idea where the idea came from. I had been working on a different project but was constantly running into problems and getting stuck (and still am today!) and wanted to write something more straightforward.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Recently, I’ve taken to streaming a lot of my writing. It’s made me a bit more productive and added a lot of fun.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My influences honestly depend on what I’m reading at the time, but Brandon Sanderson and Steven Erikson have been recent mainstays.

What are you working on now?
The sequel to Homecoming, which is tentatively called Tides of War. When I’m procrastinating on writing that, I’m working on the outlines of a few unnamed projects, and at the time of writing, planning my Nanowrimo book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write. You’ll develop your own technique and style in time. Have an idea and you’re not sure if it will work? Try to make it work. Not sure if an idea is going to be sellable? Try to sell it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A baseball coach when I was in Little League always said, “No excuses. Own your mistakes.”

What are you reading now?
Malice by John Gwynne and The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m aiming to finish more books in my current, Homecoming Chronicles every year while venturing out from them at the same time. A big portion of my plan is to use Nanowrimo as an opportunity to explore ideas and concepts without any pressure.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Dune by Frank Herbert, Gardens on the Moon by Steven Erikson, The Myth of Sisyphus and other essays by Albert Camus, and Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari

Awesome Author - Crystal Miller

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I currently reside in southern Louisiana. As a mother of two and an oilfield wife, I needed something that would help keep me busy. I had been writing since I was 15, but didn’t publish my first book until 2017. Currently, I have two books out and I’m working on my third book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Malik’s Reclamation is my latest book, however, I am currently working on the third book in the Hellfire Dogs series. My husband was actually the inspiration to Malik.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can’t write with music on. Every author I know and work with, has to have something playing in the background. Not me. I can’t concentrate with noise.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ariel Marie, Peyton Banks, Marie Skye, and Colbie Kay all inspired me to finally write.

What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on Rush’s Turmoil, the third book in the Hellfire Dogs MC series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
When it comes to promotion, I find that word of mouth is the best free advertisement you can find 🙂

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. And you will have people who don’t like your books but that’s ok. You did something that most people only dream about. You told your story.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Read your story when your done. But only after a few days. Make sure it sounds like it’s supposed and that the details are there.

What are you reading now?
Currently, I’m not reading anything because I’m on deadline with Rush’s Turmoil but once I’m done, I’ll probably pick up one of Yolanda Olsen’s latest releases.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep working on my craft and bettering myself as a writer.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Twelve by Justin Cronin
A Tale of Two Cities
anything by Jeaniene Frost

Awesome Author - Darrel Sparkman

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I never studied much. School wasn’t a big interest for me. In retrospect, I wish I had. But, what I did was read. Didn’t have much of a childhood, so I read to escape. Four to five books a week—from middle school into adulthood. You name it—I read it.
Changing schools over twenty times from kindergarten to twelfth grade gave me insight into people and circumstances—and the value of standing your ground. I loved science fiction, but when the genre morphed to dragons and zombies, I dropped out.
Being raised in rural America bent me toward adventure novels and westerns, and I’ve been writing since I was young. Reading an adventure novel and wanting to get on to the next one gave me the style in my writing of picking a week or so in the protagonist’s life and riding hell-bent from problem to solution. My heroes are prone to suddenness of action and intent.
Writing can exorcise your demons, give you the pleasure of a story well told, and drive you to distraction. But it is always a ride worth taking.
I have published eight novels, two novellas, over a dozen short stories and have been a feature writer for Saddlebag Dispatches. Ideas come from a diverse past of serving as a combat search and rescue helicopter crewman in Vietnam and a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician. I’ve worked as a professional photographer, computer repair tech and was part-owner of a commercial greenhouse operation and flower shop. I’m enjoying semi-retirement and finally have that job that wakes you up every day with a smile.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novella is The Last Warrant.
I’ve read many accounts and articles about Joplin, Missouri and Indian Territory during and after the Civil War. The more famous shoot-em-up towns like Abilene, Dodge City and Tombstone don’t hold a candle to it. Many of my stories take place in the area from Joplin, south to the Arkansas hills.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I think every writer does. I’m a burst writer and pantster. I’ll go several days writing nothing and then burn up the keyboard. And outline a novel? Can’t do it to save my life. I write by the seat of my pants and go where the characters take me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to name them all. Of course, Louis L’amour and James Woodruff Smith. Dusty Richards gave me lots of advice. A good man. Walk With Peril by D.V.S Jackson and Down To A Sunless Sea by David Graham. Those are a few I can think of on short notice and could change tomorrow. I like the old stuff in reference books. H.G.Wells history, Sketches of Rural Affairs by Mrs. Charles Tomlinson circa 1858. Plus there are numerous journals written by mountain men and tradesmen from the 1820’s and on. If you read a modern history book, I don’t think the reader gets any idea how things really were.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a novella that adapts and extends my short story Holy Sabbath Morning, Ride For The Brand—another novella, and a sequel to my novel Hallowed Ground. Spirit Trail II will be next and then possibly a sequel to my contemporary western, Limestone County.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promotion comes in many flavors, none of which are sure fire. Facebook of course, but I’m never sure how much that helps. Any other social media venues I can get on, plus a few paid spots on a western website www.ropeandwire.com I try to point everything back toward my website www.darrelsparkman.com so readers can get an idea of the different genres I write and then on to Amazon.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Sure. Start young, get serious with it—but learn a trade and don’t quit your day job. Writing is a calling but rarely pays the bills at first, or ever. Gotta feed yourself and family. And read, read, read in your chosen genre.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Dusty Richards: Write the damned story—worry about all the other stuff later. He was talking to a Basic Writing 101 class at the Ozarks Creative Writer’s conference. The audience was worried about editing, re-writing, agents, publishers… everything you can think of but the main task. Write the story. It doesn’t have to be good, just get it done. Then fix it. Send it off. Repeat. The more you write the better you get. It takes practice.

What are you reading now?
Mostly short stories and novellas from frontier, western and near-future genres right now, plus How To Market A Book Someone Besides Your Mother Will Read by Tierney James. Good stuff.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write some books. Sell some books. Repeat. Try to keep up with work and family. That pretty much fills my days.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Reminds me of the Facebook meme I saw where the guys were stranded on a desert island. The comment was, “It’s a good thing the cartoonist can’t spell.” It was covered with dessert.

Favorite books? Anything from the Bible to any of the books listed in my favorites. Plus a how-to book on producing water from thin air. That would be good.

Awesome Author - Ram Sharma

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Ram Sharma, I’ve been writing since the age 11, my first story was “Vision” while my latest book is a travelouge on India, I am a Geography enthusiast, travelling all over the world have been my lifetime hobby. For me things should be precise and direct, unnecessary data is just like adding lot of food in out plate and eating nothing and first and foremost they are a waste of time!

A lot of travelogues are concerned with culture, rituals etc. etc. But according to me it will not help the traveller in anyway!

You should only give precise information and data to the reader so that the traveller then can on his own explore and know whatever he want to know that too on his own.

As an Indian my favourite destination to visit is Uttrakhand in India and as an Earthian my favourite destination outside India is Ireland.

I have written various stories and a book, Tourist’s booklet for Indian Geography and Demographics.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Tourist’s booklet for Indian Geography and Demographics, I was actually in Ireland and I encountered a lot of people who wanted to visit India but had some silly and false data and thus were not visiting it, so I decided to write a simple travelouge on India that would clear all the stereotypes and false data people have on Indian Culture and Physical Features.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, whenever I get bored, I write science fiction stories that have mystery and thriller in it!

What authors, or books have influenced you?

What are you working on now?
Well, I’m working on Part 2 of my book, Tourist’s Booklet for Indian Geography and Demographics.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social Media Promotions are the best way to promote your book, but I have got extensive success from Awesome Gang and I also refer it to others!

Be True! Be Efficient, Creative and never lose your hope!!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s by Grant Cardone – Pay the Price today to be able to pay any price tomorrow.

Awesome Author - Aaron Schneider

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a part time writer looking to make it into full time writing, the authorial dream as it were, and I just love telling stories that thrill, excite, and engage.

So far I’ve written one complete trilogy, one series of novellas, and one stand-alone novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
War-Sworn is the last book of the Warring Realm series and it like the rest of the series was inspired by a combination of things primarily my love for military history (both ancient and modern), as well as a deep desire to examine on some level how we humans deal with violence and the psychological nature of war.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to listen to music in languages I don’t understand playing in the background. The sounds and rhythms of speech help drown out distractions and are pleasing to hear, but I don’t get caught up in the lyrics because I don’t actually know what they are saying.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
In no particular order: Tolkien, King, Lewis, Lawhead, Rice, Abnett, Martin, and Mitchell. Each has brought their own flavor, spice, and quirks, and I often feel like a child standing atop giants.

What are you working on now?
A dark fantasy series called centered around the adventures of a brother and sister in a twisted and savage simulacrum of 18th century Europe. The series is called the Kriegshund Chronicles.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesome Gang seems pretty sweet to me 😉

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get used to criticism and productive waiting. Mastering those will see you well taken care of.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

What are you reading now?
The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice and Lost Gods by Brom

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully kicking this thing into high gear and writing full time.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Holy Bible, and the Problem of Pain

Awesome Author - Andrew P. Jackson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
2018 was the year I finally made the commitment to write and finish my first book. I love being a Dad first and foremost and with my children now getting into the “I don’t need you looking over my shoulder” age, I wanted to find something else to occupy my time. I also love photography as well as thrill rides.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Photograph and I have no idea where it came from. I think it started with a question, How would you say goodbye if you knew your time was almost up?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have read a few authors but only really enjoy Stephen King books.

What are you working on now?
My new novel is called The Caretakers, and also came to me from seeing a homeless person talk to themselves. I thought to myself “what if someone I couldn’t see, was actually listening?”

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am pretty new to this but have found Facebook to be the most convenient.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stick with it, never give up. And the hard work starts when you finish the book, not before.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It all starts with a single word. Go from there.

What are you reading now?
Re-reading the Dark Tower series.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have my next 3 books already planned.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
11/22/63 would be my first, then the Dark Tower series.

Awesome Author - Adam Mann

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve just published on pre-order my 38th novella. Most of my eBooks are about 30/35,000 words. I wrote my first book about 20 years ago when I was living at the edge of a coconut estate in Sri Lanka, but after a nasty experience with a “vanity publisher” I decided to self-publish my books. However, four years ago I did approach several publishers such as Blushing Books, Mundania Press, eXtasy Books and Global Publishing Group LLC. They took ten of my manuscripts between them, and made great covers, but don’t have a great marketing department!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I met an old friend several weeks ago, and we’ve both grown older, and wrote this 31,000 word novella using a lot of my imagination.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I tend to think of the plots for novels in the middle of the night, so I get up and start writing. I make Excel files detailing my characters’ details, and the very brief summary of each chapter, words and reminders.

What authors, or books have influenced you?

What are you working on now?
I’ve recently published my fifth Box Set, each of three novellas but with a comment theme, and now my sixth is on the horizon.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I start with Smashwords, and they give me the best advice on the technical formats like covers, epub, and the ISBN.
I then take the manuscript to Amazon.
Now I can start promoting and I have 5,000 Facebook friends and over 50,000 Twitter followers, but many of whom are fellow authors. Candidly I find FB ads are not very productive, and I’m struggling to find reviewers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, just write and forget outside comments.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write and forget outside comments.

What are you reading now?
A strange novel: Zulu Hart by Saul David, but I have enjoyed it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have an unfinished manuscript from about two years ago but I’m frankly struggling with the last 5%!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
To be quite honest I’d prefer to take things like a machete and a flint.

Awesome Author - Stacy M Wray

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started writing later in life when the kids went off to college, leaving my husband and I empty-nesters. I have just finished writing my eighth book. I can’t imagine not writing – I’ve been doing it now for four years.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Unclaimed Regrets releases on Oct. 15th. I have always loved the idea of classmates coming together for their ten-year class reunion and, perhaps, old friends or first loves developing a new relationship. So…I wrote a book about it 🙂

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Probably the fact that I don’t use a storyboard or an outline. I have a beginning, middle, and an ending in my head and then I fill in the rest of the story as I write.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love the way Tarryn Fisher writes – her characters are brutally raw and real. Her true grit and honesty is something I find very refreshing.

What are you working on now?
I’ve just finished my first young reader’s book – targeting 4th-5th graders. Totally a 180 from what I write now (mostly contemporary romance).

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I haven’t found one yet – lol

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t worry about what other authors are doing. Just find your voice and be you.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write your first book. Then, your second. Keep going and don’t stop writing. The more books you have under your belt, the better chances you have at being noticed.

What are you reading now?
The Protector by Jodi Ellen Malpas

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to write a fiction book that appeals to the masses.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher

Awesome Author - James M. Becher

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a born-again Christian and write mainly to reach unbelievers with the saving good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thus, even my non-fiction book has the gospel message, and I prefer to think of my novels as being “Evangelistic fiction” rather than “Christian fiction.” I have written 4 main books (3 novels and a non-fiction self-help book), but this year the LORD led me to make more editions of two of them. “Of Such Is The Kingdom” is in 3 parts, and each part is published separately, but there is also the complete 3-part edition, thus giving buyers a choice. I also made a special Christmas Gift Edition of “The Christmas Victory.” with red ribbons at chapter heads and pictures scattered throughout, so now the total is 8 books

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book developed out of a sermon I preached based on a unique Biblical interpretation, plus a hymn history and an illustration which I used in the sermon.
Specifically, here’s how it happened” When I was in Seminary, circa 1974, The Lord began to give me insight into the meaning of Isaiah 7:14 from the use of language and context. I came up with a unique interpretation which I did not find anywhere else, but which I found to be extremely practical. Then, in the last week in November (2012), which was the first Sunday in Advent, I was given the opportunity to preach and decided to use my idea. I entitled the message “The Christmas Victory.” It was well received by many, but some thought it a bit esoteric, so in 2013 I got the idea to rework it and asked to preach it again. As an illustration, toward the end of the sermon, I used Paul Harvey’s bird story, of which he says he couldn’t trace the parentage. I had nothing but good comments this time.
For the choir anthem, I had the choir sing “I heard the bells on Christmas Day,” and I gave a brief history of the writing of the song, which I derived from the internet.
While I was working on my sermon and the hymn history, my friend, Carlos Vilches, with whom I was praying on the phone, asked me if I were writing another book. I told him “No”, and asked why he had asked. He said he felt the Lord telling him to pray for the book I was writing. I told him again, “I’m not writing any book and have no intention of writing another book.”
BUT, the more I thought both about my sermon (and the fact that it needed to reach a larger audience) and the history behind that hymn (the story of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow) and the bird story, I felt that these elements perhaps did have the making of another novel. The clincher was when I saw an episode of the T.V. Show Touched by an Angel in which Mark Twain is affected by the Longfellow poem. I decided to try to tie all these elements together as a way of getting my sermon (which is found typed in block style in Chapter 6) a larger audience by wrapping it up in a novel.
Since the sermon was called “The Christmas Victory,” I titled the book by the same name. The subtitle took a little more thought, but since my original publisher came up with a cover with a bow on the front, I decided to make the subtitle” “A Gem of a Sermon, All Wrapped Up in a Historical Novel.”

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I just sit down at the computer and write. I may get ideas while eating breakfast and rush to the computer right afterward to put them down.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
C.S. Lewis influenced me by showing me the possibility combining imagination and faith, And T.H. White gave me an appreciation for Camelot, I developed my eclectic writing style (which I use especially in “Of Such Is The Kingdom”) from William Falkner and McKinley Kanter. I don’t recommend the later, due to the nature of the content, but his style is great.

What are you working on now?
Only promotion. The first six months of 2018 (Jan.-June) were spent editing, revising and expanding my books, editing them with pictures and different fonts, re-doing the covers and making additional editions of two of them. So, now I am doing and planning only promotion. I do a lot of posting on the internet, and am seeking to do worldwide presentations, and also to submit my books to make movies. Right now I am trying to set up a book signing event in Miramar, FL.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Bublishcom I have found Bublish to be a useful platform for getting noticed. I post excerpts, called “bookbubbles” on twitter, facebook, faithspace, and other social media sites, and see good results on my Bublish dashboard. I’m getting a lot of engagement with my post, and a lot of “conversions” (people going to the sales pages). It’s worth the reasonable price, and authors can try it for 90 days for free, so I don’t see why more authors don’t use this handy tool. I’m also on AuthorsDen (Authorsden.com), which also gives me quite a bit of exposure, So between the two of them, I expect this to be a good season, salese-wise,

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Follow your passion, pray for guidance, keep writing, don’t give up, and don’t be afraid to try something new.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
First: Believe in the LORD Jesus Christ. Trust him as your Saviour
Then: Pray as if everything depended on God, and work as if everything depended on you.

What are you reading now?
I’m not, except perhaps the daily bread in the mornings. I’m very thankful that I was an avid reader in my teenage years and beyond. It has been of great benefit in my writing. But now, as I said, I’m concentrating on promotion–trying to use all the time I can. Free time is spent at the gym or watching T.V.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have no plans at the moment to write another book. Of course, I said that exact thing before I wrote my last one. With the LORD, one never knows. I hope the next thing will be the Miramar book signing event and then a few more might open. and hopefully a movie contract. I’m willing to travel. Also, I may decide to make an audiobook.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
