Right now, I am working on Book #45. I began this journey in October 2012 and now find myself unable to stop. Once the books were written longhand, but after 40 of them health issues have forced me to find new ways to get the ideas from my mind and into the books. Special thanks to readers and their great reviews and other feedback.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book is entitled “Deadly Afflictions” and was inspired by the millions of people who suffer from anxiety and other mental illness. It is also a murder mystery with a lot of twists and turns because that is the way my mind works.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I dream about my book ideas and then before I can get sleep at night, the books run like a movie through my head. Luckily I am able to convert my mind files to book files.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Millions, I am an avid reader of over 1000 books a year, I love old classics and have found hundreds of new authors who are amazing. I think every word read, is a influence into what is put onto paper by authors.
What are you working on now?
I am writing a conspiracy thriller. I have a tentative title of Fatal Pretense. It has a twisted ending I think readers will enjoy. Just starting on it and should have it done by March, I seem to write a book every month or two.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use twitter and Facebook mostly, but love Awesome Gang, Readers Gazette and other sites that let authors put there books on for free.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you love writing, just do it. The sales are secondary to having someone say they love your story or that it meant something special to them.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Go with your gut. You have to write what you feel and others cannot know what is in your mind or what you are trying to say.
What are you reading now?
I have ten books on my list, so it is hard tosay, I read between 5 and 6 every day. I love a good mystery though.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Just putting words on paper and trying to get sleep. I also am an avid reviewer, in the top ten on Goodreads, and find this is also a passion.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I wrote my first book when I turned forty; something I wish I’d done a long time ago, but never believed I could. I’ve written three books in total now. One is a romantic thriller and the other two are in a paranormal romance series.
I’m a wife and mother of two fitness-mad teenagers (they don’t get it from me!). I love dogs so my other ‘job’ suits me perfectly; dog-sitting for woofers when their owners go on holiday. They stay at our house and we have about ten regulars and love them like they’re our own!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is the Cold Hard Truth and was released on 17th January 2017. It’s an idea I had for a long time. I was supposed to be writing another book but this was one
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I write at the PC I’m fine. But when I use my laptop, I tend to sit with one leg curled up underneath me on the sofa and end up with pins and needles. Every time.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Marian Keyes and Liane Moriarty’s style of writing. I always feel inspired to write after reading one of their books.
What are you working on now?
I’m just in the early plotting phases of a psychological thriller. Watch this space….
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Making my book free for a few days has worked well in the past. I’m going to try Facebook ads next.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
So many people want to write a book but believe they can’t do it. My advice is – believe you can, and just go for it. What works for me is thinking through an idea, a tiny bit of the plot, and then getting it down on paper. Then I think of several plot points along the way; it could be a scene, some dialogue, anything at all. Then I do a pre-first draft where I write down any old nonsense and see where it takes me. No one else will see it at this stage, so it doesn’t matter how rubbish it is. That’s when the good ideas come for me and the story begins to take shape. Then I’m ready to write the first draft….
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If it doesn’t move the story forward in any way, delete it.

I am a simple southern gal who has loved books since the age of three. I finally took the plunge and wrote my first book in 2016. I was both terrified and excited at the same time when I finished. Telling myself if I only ever wrote the one I would be content since I accomplished my dream of writing a book. However once I started writing I just couldn’t stop and now have several others in the works.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Bear in Mine which is part of the Grayslake: More than Mated Kindle World. I loved this series when it was first written by Celia Kyle and when I received an email saying that it had been turned into a Kindle World I knew then that it was time to take the plunge.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When naming my main characters I say their name over and over out loud. Since I write romance I want to ensure the names work in any setting. There is nothing worse than being in the throws of passion and the name being called out just kill the scene.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The list is so long but I must say that Jane Austen is the most inspiring classic author for me. While the more modern ones include Celia Kyle, T. S. Joyce, Abbie Zanders, Carrie Ann Ryan, Talina Perkins, and a handful of others.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on Unbreakable Ties (O’Reilly Clan Book 1) which is a paranormal shifter romance and The City Girl Ropes a Lawman (Cooper Creek Book 1) which is a contemporary romance. I also have modern witch series that I am still developing. The ladies just aren’t talking to me that much right now not to mention a follow-up Grayslake More Than Mated book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still new to all of the promotion stuff. So far I have had really great luck with Instagram and Twitter. I think the most important method is to take it one day at a time and make sure that you are promoting in some way each and every day.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write everyday. As long as you are writing you are accomplishing your dream. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you aren’t an author. Even when you receive a bad review, take it with a grain of salt.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
When someone says they don’t like your book take a moment to cry then get angry. Get angry enough that you go out there and prove them wrong with your next best-selling book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Up next for me is to get The City Girl Ropes a Lawman and Unbreakable Ties finished and published. Then work on the next five books I have lined up.

3 or 4 would so not be enough for me. I would have to have at least one Lani Lynn Vale book. Any of her titles are a must read. Pride and Prejudice, A Tale of Two Cities are both others I would bring.

I am in my mid fifties, a Taoist, a geek and cat lover, collector of tattoos and piercings and books in various genres. I have written three books so far, multiple short stories including short story serials, and plan on writing many more in the future.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Tales For The Night, a small compilation of horror stories. I wanted to dip my finger into the horror genre and I think it’s going to be my main focus now, as I have two more books in progress akin to that.
I was inspired to write it in part due to my adoration for HP Lovecraft and his works. One of the stories in my book is a direct homage to him, although modernized. Another is actually the intro vignette to my next horror novel.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unlike others, I cannot have music or other distractions around me when I write. I must have coffee, of course. I must also get the ending for the piece firmly in mind and write toward that end, otherwise the characters run off by themselves and I never know where they’ll end up.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
HP Lovecraft, Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert Bloch, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Harlan Ellison, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Stephen King, Dean Coontz, to name a few.
My favorite books are Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein, The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff, 1984 by George Orwell, and The Time Traveler and War of the Worlds by HG Wells.
What are you working on now?
Final Rites, a paranormal investigator novel set in modern-day Grand Rapids, Michigan. It stars a transgender woman as the protagonist and covers many issues that people struggle with in today’s world, as well as magick and the Grimsfelk, the creatures from the other side of the Veil.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to use Facebook and Twitter.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write, write, write. Then edit, edit, edit. Then get non-biased feedback.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Today is the best day to make changes that you want to see in your life. You can’t go back to the past and you can’t predict the future but you can affect what happens today.

David Edding’s Belgariad series.
What’s next for you as a writer?
In October of this year, I will be speaking and writing at the literary convention, FanNexus, in Spokane, Washington.

After writing feature articles in magazines, newspapers, and online magazines for over fifteen years, J.Q. Rose entered the world of fiction. Her published mysteries are Deadly Undertaking and Dangerous Sanctuary released by Books We Love Publishing. With her non-fiction book for girls, Girls Succeed!, she returns to her first love, writing about real people. What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Books We Love released my second mystery, Dangerous Sanctuary, this past fall. The story is about a female pastor and a murder in her church. I was inspired to write it because I had interviewed a female pastor for the interactive e-book, Girls Succeed! Stories Behind the Careers of Successful Women. She is such a wonderful role model for girls, definitely not a murderer! We had a female pastor at our church too, so I used their conversations with me to shape Pastor Christine.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to set the timer to STOP writing. When I get involved in the story, I stay seated too long, so I need to remember to get up, stretch my legs, get a drink, before sitting back down to write at my desk or dining room table or recliner.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephanie Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series opened my eyes to writing humor in mysteries and got me hooked on reading mysteries. Jan Karon’s Mitford series is well-crafted storytelling filled with warm and witty characters. I wanted to combine those styles into my mysteries.
What are you working on now?
I’m writing a memoir about the first year we were in the flower business. This is more difficult than writing fiction because I can’t invent anything. A memoir has to be truthful!

I creatively channel my writing, much like a musician channels music or an artist paints.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Books by Ayn Rand: “Atlas Shrugged” and “The Fountain Head” Ayn Rand taught me the significance of Individual Purpose in Life, and that everything else was of little importance but the achievement of one’s aspiring goals and respect of Self.
As a child, I adored the “Nancy Drew” mysteries. Carolyn Keene inspired me to always write intriguing stories filled with mystery and adventure!
Jack London who wrote the classic, “Call of the Wild” inspired me to always write into the fabric of my storytelling wonderful wildlife, and precious pets. Jack London taught me the amazing craft of adventure! Please note, that in my stories, no pets or wildlife ever die.

So, as you know, my name is Joceline Krieger. I have always had the dream to become a writer, and with the advent of self-publishing, I could not think of one single excuse to not go ahead and try. The time had just finally come to stop dreaming and start living.
So, long story short, I finally published my first book on 18 January 2017. It is a romantica novelette and I had great fun writing it. I learned a lot while I wrote it and I know the quality of my writing will continue to improve which each new one I write.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of the book is ‘Love.’ I have always believed that no relationship could ever be truly successful if the passion is not always there. Thus, for me, love is sex, and sex is love. It was this notion that inspired the book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I cannot write if everything is not just so. I need to create my own little bubble of peace and tranquility to truly focus and get the job done. If there are any distractions, whatsoever, I start to write complete and utter junk.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
He may not write erotica, but Salman Rushdie has always been one of my greatest influences. He has an amazing way of writing and describing things, that is definitely unique to him. I am also a great fan of Roald Dahl, Virgina Woolf and John le Carre.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on my second novelette entitled ‘Lust.’ It is a continuation on the whole idea that love is sex, and sex is love.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
What other than social media. Social media is the future and it where most people get their information. It is also the best way for things to spread through word of mouth as people like and share your posts.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Well, I am a new author myself so I do not have much to share. I guess all I can say is, just do it. You will not know until you try.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That is a hard one. You hear about so many great quotes but few ever hit home or stick. I would say the best advice I have ever heard must be to never give up. Life will throw all kinds of obstacles in your way and all you can do is to keep going. If you want something bad enough, it will come to you no matter what. You just have to persevere.
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading ‘A Delicate Truth’ by John le Carre. I absolutely love the writing in that book.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Only time will tell. I have only begun my journey so we will have to see what life brings.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would have to say ‘Midnight’s Children’ by Salman Rushdie. Every word and sentence in that book are absolute poetry. The next one will have to be ‘To The Lighthouse’ by Virgina Woolf. I have never in my life read a book that did such a good job of letting the reader into the lives of its characters. Finally, I would have to say ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ by Charles Dickens. It is just one of those timeless books which I can read time and again.

My name is Stephanie and I a young woman author. I have written one book but have two more in the works. I hope to have one of them published by the end of 2017. I enjoy writing, reading, and spending time with my family. I have a firm belief in creating a better world for all, and my only hope is that I set that example for people daily.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Dear World” is the title of my first book and its a short collection of non-traditional poetry. I decided to write this book after a young woman reached out to me for a short story I wrote called, “Recovery”. It’s about eating disorders and how you can fight them. I’ve found that people all around the world feel worthless, angry, and saddened by things in their life. I wrote Dear World so everyone can look around and realize they are not alone. They can keep fighting and it will end okay. It’s about trusting yourself as well as the people in your life.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
A few, I suppose. When I write, I keep water at my side but also some sort of caffeinated drink. Caffeine puts me in a different mind set and I often drink it when writing action scenes. I also start writing the first chapter, the last, and one that will go in the middle. It literally gives me a timeline of events to follow.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
JK Rowling was the first author I read and thought ‘that’s my future. I’m going to write’. Shortly after her, I turned to Cornelia Funke and her realistic fiction style. Of course Mrs. Funke has amazing fantasy but I read things like “Heartbeat” and “Red Bird”.
What are you working on now?
A fantasy, young adult novel untitled. It’s the exact opposite of what I’ve just released. This story revolves around a group of teenagers with magik set a thousand years in the future. A law has passed stating no magik is allowed in any of the major cities, which the government controls. This group of kids is determined to turn the law around and with illusions and spells, they fight their way to stop the corruption. It’s a work in progress, but you have to start somewhere!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Twitter, my blog, facebook. I haven’t set up any author signings anywhere but I’m sure that would help.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up. It sounds so cliche, right? Well it’s true. Look past the traditional ways of publishing and make a name for yourself. Find some fans, collaborate, have fun, and let them know you. Build a fan base and just go for it. Never stop having fun either, if you do it’s pointless.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t get stuck in what it looks like. I heard this statement about a year ago and realized I was so focused on publishing through an agency I never considered anything else. That fear of rejection melted away and I began making a name for myself.
What are you reading now?
The entire Star Wars book collection. I have a list of four pages of these books and I’ve read about six or seven of them the last few weeks. Currently, I’m reading Lost Tribe of the Sith by John Jackson Miller. It’s pretty great.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to keep writing. I’m going to finish my untitled book, I’m going to publish it, and I’m going to write something else. I have made plans to donate to charities of my choice that help underprivileged kids and families, as well as just enjoying the fans I have and getting to know them.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
This is going to be hard. I would take Kill Me Softly by Laura Cross, Into the Void by Tim Lebbon, and at least one of the Harry Potter’s by JK Rowling because that was the entirety of my childhood.

I have been writing for quite a while. Couple this with being a big a huge fan of the superhero genre and the novel “Girl Wanted: Apply in Person” was bound to happen. I have written several short stories and my greatest pleasure is when a reader sits back and says “I didn’t see that coming.” I wrote my first novel years ago and it was “The Appleseed Cat: A Revenge in Black and White. It was received well and I am giving it a fresh rewrite and will post it on Amazon soon. It was a dark murder thriller and I have stepped away from that and now want to be more inspiring to my readers. But one experience, above all others, made me decide to write in the superhero genre. I had the opportunity to meet Stan Lee one day as he went in a restaurant. He has a big bodyguard that put the stop on me. I asked if could say just 5 words to Stan Lee and Stan heard me. And here I am in front of the person that has given me the best reads of my life and I was able to say to him, “Thank you for Daredevil.” He smiled that smile and shook my hand and told me I was a great man and had made his day. I saw him on 2 other occasions, but that was the best. I also met J.D. Spurlock (Daredevil) and Jim Steranko (Nick Fury) and they were so supportive of superhero fans. And Neal Adams, he is awesome and his son took the time to do a special drawing of my grand daughter in her spider girl costume. It is priceless. The superhero community is the best. And when a reader says that they loved my book, I know how even the comic book greats feel.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Girl Wanted: Apply in Person The ATOMICAS Series. It is a good read where a veteran superhero group, the Mighty Manhattans, are under contract to New York City. But they get a Cease and Desist order slapped on them for violating Equal Opportunity laws, specifically, that they have gender inequality, have a person working for them with no visa to work in the United States, employing an elder citizen and placing her in dangerous situations with no compensation. This lawsuit is about Triton’s daughter, the strongest of the superhero group. She is an emissary from Atlantis and this is not the attention her kingdom wants. To remedy the situation, a classified ad is placed calling all young girls to try out for the Mighty Manhattans. They are unique and gutsy, but are rejected during the auditions as no M/M worthy. They take a girls day out in the Diamond District at the same time that Dr. Fahrenheit assembles the worst band of supervillains to empty the district of every gem and gold nugget. The girls are caught in the crossfire and must use their powers together to win. Some bond through friendship, some through pain, but all through sisterhood…super sisterhood. My inspiration comes from the loss of my daughter, Amy, to an act of violence. I wish that all girls would find a friend and share each others strengths. And this will be evident when you read the ATOMICAS.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Techno music piped in my head. Turn it up. Loud. I block out the world and immerse myself in writing. I start with a vague idea and the story writes itself. I actually see and hear the characters in this sound blanket. One of my favorite writing music venues is Eisenfunk. Pentafunk Jenny is my inspiration for one of the supervillains, BloodBeat, in “Girl Wanted: Apply in Person. And the Kongos…and well, anything loud.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King. I would kick his butt for how he made me feel in Pet Semetary. You hearing me, Stephen, he drives me to write for the reader’s emotions. The East of West graphic novel series has characters that are so good they make me weigh every one I write hoping to be that good. I study a lot. One thing I see in novels is flat dialogue. I would tell any writer to read “Emotional Craft of Fiction Writing” by Donald Maass. The other book on dialogue that I recommend is “Crafting Dynamic Dialogue” it is a Writer;s Digest featured book by Cheryl St. John.
What are you working on now?
The next in the ATOMICAS Series. I promise it to be as fresh as “Girl Wanted: Apply in Person”. New superheroes and villains. Story lines that started in the first book will be spun off in this book. And more origin stories, especially of the cameos such as Wilson and the Two Drops of God. Readers get ready to love this book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My readers telling others. I have the best readers. I will put up a website just to show the artwork I have done for the ATOMICAs. Conduit channeling fire, Shatterdream with her Valkyrie guarding her, Rusty (FeO) busting out of a bank vault, Ms. Newton stealing momentum as only she can, Thunder Girl pulverizing threats to New York, and of course, La Porcelana in her Mexican wrestler glory. I have challenged myself to produce a new super hero or villain each day for 2017. This involves sketches and litho work as I dream up these exciting characters. And posting on great sites like the AWESOMEGANG!! Thank you!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Study the greats. They will share. And then you will go back and rewrite and rewrite some more.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I had a friend I met on Runescape that used the word “angst: in a game. I had to private message this person. She was in her eighties and she had been in the editorial business. She would never say much until I posted on a site “100words.com” and I guess she saw some potential. On the site, you have to post 100 words exactly every day for a whole month. Day one through Day Thirty. I thought I put down some good stuff. You can check for me under the author name of “doggrowl” it is a spoof on the word “doggerel” the definition is empty and meaningless verse. She went by “GrannyBop” and she posted her thirty days. I read it and begged her to teach me. She wrote as a 4 year old girl that made me see I was an amateur. For several years we emailed, never a phone call. Her advice was pure gold. And this whole time I was asking her to read :The Appleseed Cat”. I will say this to those asking for a critique, toughen up. This wonderful funny woman with the best stories and a wealth of writing advice accepted my manuscript. And she ran over me with one sentence. She said, “You are scared to write the first twelve pages.” And she was right. I am so much better for her critique, man, it was a smack in the face. I went back and wrote the first twelve pages and cried the whole time.
What are you reading now?
I wear the Black Hat…a great book on seeing the villains in life and letting it inspire your bad characters.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Getting my own writing panel at DragonCon. And have cosplayers dressed as characters from the ATOMICAS Series.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, the best source of heroes and villains ever written. I read something new in it every time I open it. “Not Bad fr a Human” by Lance Henricksen, he shows that you have to pay your dues to make it, Marvel Comics, the Untold Story by Sean Howe, and a really good survival book on starting a fire with sand and coconuts. I can catch fish. Probably gain weight and tell the rescue boat to give me a couple more days, I’m in the middle of something.

I’m Tamara, the author of the “Shadow Crucible”. I’m British born but I grew up in North Africa.
I studied archaeology and developed an obsession with shamanism and occult practices, and spent many years delving into it. I am a Londoner and a big lover of ancient cultures, the esoteric and history.
My debut novel is coming out the 25th of April and hopefully my second one after it.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My debut novel coming out is “The Shadow Crucible: The Blind God”, I was inspired by my studies really, shamanism, gnostic christianity, kabbalah and the esoteric. I grew up fascinated with mythology and the pre abrahamic religions.
Myths and folkore provide such a richness and a wealth of wisdom and an insight into our old beliefs, I found the Nag Hammadi texts in particular to be phenomenal in it’s interpretation of Christianity.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I cannot write at tables, I find it awfully distracting and I feel I am back at school. I tend to write anywhere else perfectly fine.
It does help to have a good drink before diving into writing!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I grew up reading Tolkien, then as I grew up in a French environment, I read a lot of the French classics which are deeply philosophical and thought provoking. I read a lot of fantasy and there are so many excellent authors! but I would have to say myths and legends of all cultures influenced my way of thinking earlier on in life.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on my third book, It doesnt yet have a title, but it is based on my mother’s experiences after World War 2 in the refugee camps in Germany. It inspired me to write a fantasy novel, mingling real events with folklore, I’ve mixed a lot of slavic fairy tale figures with some dark High Fantasy stuff, as usual my writings are a conduit for my philosophy.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I try to spread awareness through social media, it is very hard to stand out, but I do my best.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Persevere in your writing, do not let yourself be discouraged by rejections, they are what shape you and basically give you an incentive to succeed.
It creates a certain drive to prove yourself and excel and when you break through, you realise there is very little that can sway you.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you believe in your writing then look at all the authors who were faced with endless rejections, just to succeed in the end… keep pushing, just push.
What are you reading now?
“Man, the State and War”, I find it very interesting.
What’s next for you as a writer?
write more books and explore other avenues of self expression, I would love to see my books eventually turned into films.

I’ve written four novels. Two science fiction and two mystery/thrillers.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
THE WORLD OF ERGANNA is directly inspired by the classic science fiction of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Edmond Hamilton and Leigh Brackett. It is dedicated to the memory of those three writers, in fact.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not so much a habit, but I did once have the unusual experience of co-writing a book with my younger self. I completed the first draft of THE GODDESS OF STRIFE in 1991 when I was in college. Then I put it in a box until 2012 when I dusted it off and revised it. So I essentially co-wrote that novel with my college-age self!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve already mentioned Edgar Rice Burroughs, Edmond Hamilton and Leigh Brackett. Also I have to mention Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Fredric Brown, Henry Kuttner, C. L. Moore and Arthur Conan Doyle.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I just started the third LINCOLN CONFIDENTIAL mystery/thriller, entitled THE ELYSIAN FIELDS.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Let’s see how this one works out. I have high hopes!

Make sure your book is truly ready before you release it to the public – but, at the same time, don’t endlessly revise it forever, either!

I’m a stay-at-home mom and pro bono lawyer, but writing has always been one of my favorite hobbies. I’ve written four books, but this is the first one I’ve published.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Elissa Blue was inspired by a passage in Cornelia Funke’s Inkheart talking about fairies having either dragonfly or butterfly wings. It made me think of the insects I’d been studying (entomology is another hobby), and how fun it would be to have a science fiction explanation for fairies: humans with butterfly wings and some of the oddities of insects (like a pupa state, migration, pheromones, and short reproductive periods).
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I must have complete silence. If anyone is talking or even singing a song, I will accidentally type their words or lyrics instead. So I wait for everyone to go to bed before I write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Wilkie Collins, Thomas Hardy, Janette Rallison, Betsy Brannon Green, and Robison Wells are my favorites, but it’s fantasy books like Howl’s Moving Castle and Spindle’s End that have probably influenced me the most.
What are you working on now?
I’m almost done with the second book in The Winged series and hope to publish it within a year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t know! I am brand new to marketing and stumbling my way through it. Ask me again in a few months.

Kindle and Kobo make ebook publishing quick and easy; if you’re self-publishing, start there.

Living in Colorado -I enjoy walking, hiking, and cross country skiing. When I am not writing, I enjoy traveling, quilting, crocheting, cooking, reading and painting. Our Family Quilt is my second book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Our Family Quilt began as a book idea. Then moved into research of quilting as an art form in America. The characters in this book evolved through quilting classes, quilting shows, museums, shops, the Columbine Quilt Guild, inspiring speakers, and encouraging quilters. Each experience inspired me to add a different dimension to both her quilting and writing.
A trip to the mountains, baking apple crisps, sewing. I never know what activities I do today, is nurturing a future creative endeavor.
Whether I am writing a book, an article or a blog, it never just happens. It takes experiences, adventures, love, encouragement and support from family and friends.
Our Family Quilt didn’t begin when I sat at my laptop. A tiny seed was planted in my writing soul when my mom, started me on my sewing journey. A box of scraps of material inspired my first try at putting bits and pieces together to create something new. A Christmas sewing basket with little scissors, thread, pins and buttons is still treasured. My grandma, gave me her sewing machine she used since the 1930’s. I remember the moment she gave me the machine and tried to weave it into my book. On my thirteenth birthday, my parents gave me a Sears Kenmore that went forward and reverse (which I took with me when I got married, sewed little-boy blankets, and used until it would sew no more). That feeling I put into words.
Once I was married my husband became my creative sounding board, patiently listening as I created with words, pins and thread. Supporting me with many adventures to fill up pages.
While I was raising children, teaching, and writing articles an idea for a book started brewing. My life supplied the inspiration. I developed the prologue and the epilogue. I also knew from beginning to end the journey I wanted to take the characters on. I knew how to sew but not quilt -which was critical in the story.
I walked into my friend’s office, who quilted, and asked her to give me enough information so I could write my book.
With a happy heart, she took me into my first quilting class and I was off on another adventure. I went to quilting shows learning everything I could. I joined a Quilting Guild, listening to all their inspiring speakers and meeting encouraging quilters. I bought quilting magazines and books. As we traveled we stopped at each quilting shop along the way. As I absorbed new experiences, I became inspired to add a different dimension to both my quilting and my book.
I not only finished the book but fell in love with the art of quilting. The needle became my pen and the thread my ink. As I wrote about Grace, a master quilter, -as she shared her creative gifts with her young granddaughter, Audrey. I was thinking about sewing with my mom.
As I wrote about their lives unfolding around their family quilt. The love between grandmother and granddaughter was a mirror of my love for my grandmother.
Each memory you create today becomes a springboard for future writing.
As you read about Grace and Audrey, may it inspire a memory for you to use as a creative springboard. So you too may piece together your own masterpiece.

When I am quilting I am thinking about my writing and when I am writing I am thinking about my quilting. I find inspiration everywhere.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve authored five books so far (with one more still in the oven) across two different series. They’re all cozy mysteries, though one series is set in Maine (the home of cozy mystery) and the other is set in my home country, Australia.
My Stage Door series is based around my past life in musical theater. So much fun goes on during a theatrical production! There are some great characters – even when they’re not actually acting – and it seemed natural to me to use some of this fabulous material in the form of a mystery series. I’ve been on stage myself a few times (yep, singing and dancing) but most often I was more a backstage kinda girl .Seriously, that’s where all the fun is. Folk might think it’s glamorous to be on stage, in the spotlight, but only from the wings can you get away with water pistol battles while the show is in full swing. (Though I have to say, dropping ice cubes down the duds of the leading man during final bows when I was a chorus girl was one of my crowning moments. He deserved it.)
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book is “Stage Door – The Art of Murder” and it’s set around a production of Les Miserables. Anyone who’s seen the show (or the movie) knows that the Barricade is as much a character as anyone else. On stage, it’s a major part of the set – it needs to move on and off stage and, of course, it needs to rotate mid performance. I remember one eventful production of “Les Mis” when the barricade jammed half way around and the poor orchestra had to vamp the lead-in to the Thenardier in the sewers scene for SEVEN MINUTES! I was at the sound desk with my imagination running away with me. *Why* had the barricade jammed?
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to lie down on my back on the floor with my knees up and my laptop resting against my knees. I put my pointer fingers on the “f” and the “j” and go for it. Not being able to see the screen helps me stay in the flow and not succumb to the critic in my head that rereads everything I write and tells me it’s rubbish.
I do have to pop my head up every now and then to make sure I’m not typing gobbledegook.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently plotting two more shorts for my Havens Valley series. These books are set in Australia and are loosely based on the seasons. The slight set back I’m facing at the moment is that the next book should be set in winter but we’re currently experiencing an absolutely blistering summer down here. I’m finding it a little tough setting a cozy scene in front of the fire when in reality I’m lying under the air con gasping for breath.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find my own mailing list works very well. The beauty of my own list is that everyone on it has joined because they’ve liked one of my books. To me, those members are precious friends, and it’s a pleasure to write to them with honesty (rather than the stilted marketing-speak we might be obliged to use in other circumstances).
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what you enjoy to read. In a moment of insanity, I once tried to write an urban vampire thriller thang, but it completely did my head in and utterly discouraged me. When you enjoy what you do, your writing will shine.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Most people get 85%-90% of the way through a job or a task and then decide they’ve done enough and find some reason to stop. I’ve left enough almost-completed stories sitting on my hard drive to know that this is true. I also see it in so many other areas of everyday life – my neighbor, who cuts the lawn then leaves the mower out in the middle of the yard for the next week – my daughter, who does three quarters of her math homework on the first night of the week then leaves the last bit so that she can do it in a mad, angry rush on Friday morning before school – council workers who spend the week working on some hole in the road then leave a pile of sand on the sidewalk for the next 8 months.
Finish the job!
If you can be one of those people who complete tasks, you’ll be miles ahead of the rest.
Oh, and make back-ups.
What are you reading now?
My daughter is insisting I read a kid’s series she’s loving. It’s called “Friday Barnes – Girl Detective” by Australian author R.A. Spratt. It’s a great book for say, 9-12 year old girls. The main character is a tween version of Sherlock Holmes and I’m getting a very satisfactory number of giggles and snortlings from it.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hmm… I have some plots already laid out for my two current series but, naturally, I already find myself dreaming ahead to something new. I want to set another series in Australia and would like to blend some traditional European style magic with some of the spirituality of the First Australians… Something with mystery, some great Australian characters and something magical…
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’m only part way through Ben Aaronvitch’s Rivers of London series, so I’d have to take one of those. My all-time favorite kid’s books were Susan Cooper’s Dark is Rising series. They are magical, have wonderful depth and intricacies and have kept me happy over many re-reads throughout my life. I’d also take a biography of former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, because she strikes me as an incredibly strong woman and an inspiring character. And, of course, a notebook and a pen to scribble something of my own.

I was born in Utah and grew up in Washington state where I presently reside with my husband and three teenage boys. I began writing my first novel around Christmastime, December 2007. The goal was to see if I could complete one novel-length book, believing it would be an impressive accomplishment. Little did I know I would fall in love with the writing process and continue writing at every given opportunity! One book turned into a six-book fantasy-scifi-romance-adventure series known as the Harrowbethian Saga. I also write poetry and short stories, but I am most known for my quotes that circulate the internet. You can find many of my quotes on Goodreads linked to my author page. I have two books presently published that include quotes, poetry, and short stories for every day of the year, but my favorite book–the one that challenged me–is a fictional human interest account about a young girl who struggles to endure a life of hard circumstances. I write to entertain myself, and this keeps me happily writing as often as time permits.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest published book is the third in the Harrowbethian Saga titled, Eena, The Curse of Wanyaka Cave. This series was inspired by my tendency to daydream in high school when I was a teenager. What else was there to do with all that extra time in class? This story of Queen Eena was one of my favorite daydreams to visit and revisit when I was bored. I think this series proves I have always possessed an active and creative imagination.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I use a lot of sticky notes when I write a book, and these sticky notes tend to end up plastered around the screen of my laptop as I type out chapters. The theory is that I keep better track of ideas, character personalities, plot twists, etc. if these reminders stare me in the face. Once a sticky note is no longer needed, I get an odd thrill out of peeling it off my screen and putting it into a big envelope where it is saved as project notes.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have probably been influenced most by authors of classic literature. They are my favorite writers and include Victor Hugo, J.R.R. Tolkien, Charles Dickens, C.S. Lewis, Robert Louis Stevenson, Mark Twain, Mary Shelley, and Homer. My favorite book of all time is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I enjoy the old children’s fairy tales too, like those written by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Lewis Carroll, Rudyard Kipling, and George MacDonald.
What are you working on now?
I am presently working on another book of quotes, poetry, and short stories for every day of the year. It will be titled, Slaying Dragons, and dedicated to my son for his graduation this year. He loves dragons.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have grown fond of Goodreads for promoting my books. I have book giveaways posted there all the time.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
First, if you want to be a writer, then WRITE! Spend less time thinking, studying, researching, learning, worrying about the art and just write. Write a sentence, a paragraph, a page every day of your life—about anything and everything. Scribble out a poem, a quote, a set of instructions, a portion of a developing novel, a letter to a friend, and so on. Read your work over and edit it. Then set it aside for a while before reading and editing it again. The point is, writing and re-writing are the exercises for authors that lead to excellence.
Secondly, READ everything. Read books, articles, recipes, blogs, letters, cereal boxes, and so on. Pay attention to the details that draw you in. Note what causes you to lose interest. Keep a journal of what you learn, and refer to it now and then.
Thirdly, pick up a basic GRAMMAR book and memorize it; put that knowledge to use.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best writing advice I have ever heard was a quote by Toni Morrison: “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.”
What are you reading now?
My son is performing in “Narnia” at the local high school, which got me thinking about those wonderful books. I just started reading The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis. I plan to read through all of the Chronicles of Narnia.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Slowly but surely, I am writing more books and developing a following of readers. I plan to get the last three books of the Harrowbethian Saga published as soon as possible, and then I will work on putting my best poetry together in one book.

Only 4 books? This is a tough choice. I would probably bring the biggest and best books I have read.

I am a retired federal agent having worked for several law enforcement and investigative agencies in the U.S. government. I spend my leisure time writing, traveling and, most importantly, spending lots of time with our grandson. I have few hobbies and don’t play golf – just couldn’t get the hang of it. I had my first book published in October 2016.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Probable Cause for Vengeance”. It’s a crime fiction novel centering around a Deputy U.S. Marshal hunting down a fugitive terrorist who is trying to escape back to his homeland of Pakistan. The idea for the book came from my experiences while serving with the U.S. Marshals Service. The USMS is the federal government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations as well as being responsible for tracking and extraditing fugitives who are apprehended in foreign countries and wanted for persecution in the U.S.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I’m opposite of what most authors are encouraged to do, e.g., write everyday! I only write when I feel like writing. Maybe that’s why it took me almost eight years to finish my novel. I’m not saying that’s a good thing though.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I enjoy an assortment of books; history, biographies, military, crime fiction, suspense, and mystery. Some of my favorite authors are Scott Turow (“Presumed Innocent”), James Patterson (“14th Deadly Sin”) and Jim Webb (“Fields of Fire”). Their books inspired what I write about.
What are you working on now?

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Being a debut author, promoting and marketing my book is all very new to me, and exasperating. I am a Goodreads author, which has helped some. I’ve also used OnlineBookClub, BookLife by Publishers Weekly and recently, Awesomegang. I believe you have to take advantage of whatever is out there, because no one is going to come knocking on your door, especially if you’re an unknown author. But please do your research. A lot of the websites, and there are a ton of them, just want your money.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Far from me to give anyone advice since I am a rookie at this. But, if you have a story to tell and you feel it’s worthwhile, then put it down on paper. It’s your story and nobody can change that, no matter how good or bad it is. Trust in your self.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From my platoon sergeant in Vietnam: “If you want to get out of here alive, stay alert and keep your damn head down!” And here I am, alive and well.
What are you reading now?
“Killing the Rising Sun” by Bill O’Reilly.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Attempt to write my next novel and hopefully more after that.

I have done very little advertising so I am just branching out in it this year.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write as often as you can, if you can’t write daily then think about what your prospective characters will be doing, and how you will handle them. Listen to your readers because they will tell you what they want to read. Listening is as important as writing, and marketing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write everyday, it takes discipline but it will get you far. If you hear a conversation, a line that is said out in the street, or in a certain conversation – remember it, write it down. Writers use whatever they experience, or imagine and some of it comes from everyday, ordinary speech, activities or events. If it is unusual and you want to remember it, write it down!

What’s next for you as a writer?
This year I will be working on my series books and learning, learning, learning more about how to market my books to increase exposure and sales.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a kid who grew up during the dawn of the Hollywood blockbuster, and I had parents who really encouraged creativity. I think the exposure to so much great literature, film, and art really shaped me, and contributed to my desire to tell stories. I’ve written as long as I can remember, and I find it thrilling that self-publishing has come so far. There’s a great big world full of readers out there! I have a collection of stories, novels, and poems that I’ve only begun to publish for readers. I have 14 complete novels for my fantasy adventure series done, and getting prepped for publishing, while I also have some shorter stories which I am putting into collections.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Well, the latest book out there is the first one I’ve self published, and it is the novelization of our independent horror film, “Escape from the Dead”. We shot the movie here in Iowa, and I novelized it because I love writing books more than screenplays, and “Escape” was first a manuscript I wrote a long time ago. Novelizing the movie was a JOY, because I got to do all the things in the book that just weren’t possible in our movie, because of budget constraints or other considerations. The book is based on my original story, as well as the final draft of the screenplay.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure I do anything unusual, but I can tell you, I’ve never met a creative writing class I didn’t bug out of! Writing has always just kind of come naturally, so I spent more time learning a larger vocabulary, and more of the nuts and bolts of English than to create things. I never had a problem creating things! And I don’t waste an ounce of the creative juices- if I get inspired to write something, I get it down, and I’ll worry about where it fits in or the bigger picture later. I’ve written things that have started as a single line of dialog that turned into a whole story, so if something creative hits? Put it on a page and sort out further details later.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
This is always a tricky one for me, because I’m not a big reader. There are books I’ve read, and some of them multiple times, but in general, I don’t do a lot of reading. I was utterly fascinated by Steven King’s “IT”, but I’m not necessarily a Steven King fan. I do love a good mystery, but I’m not sure how much those inspire me to write horror or fantasy. One book I have read about four times that I find inspiring is the autobiography of KISS front man Paul Stanley, titled “Face the Music: A Life Exposed”. His life story is a great one about overcoming challenges to succeed.
What are you working on now?
Aside from working on producing a new movie for this year, I am working on three separate books to get published. The first will be a collection of short horror stories and poems, entitled “The Discomposure Agglomeration”. That one is nearing done, as I put the final touches on a couple of short stories for it, and arrange for some illustrations. There is a shorter horror novel I’m finishing which is geared more toward a teen/young adult audience, and then there is the big one, the first book in my Fantasy/Adventure series: Wolfshire. The first book, “Dawn of Heroes” should be out some time this year as well.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, I’m pretty new to the publishing game, and so I am learning more and more about that each day. Social media has turned out to be only so useful, but that’s why I’m looking up sites like Awesomegang, as I really am interested within the next couple years in making writing my main job. I have some plans to keep increasing visibility for my books, but mainly right now, I’m learning, watching, and trying to make myself wiser about promotion and distribution.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
This will sound tremendously cliche, but… WRITE. Never quit getting better at it, and don’t be afraid to step outside what is comfortable for you to write. But always be writing, and trying to find ways to make yourself better at it. And when you think you’ve reviewed your latest masterpiece enough? Read and review it one more time.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t be afraid to pay for advertising your stuff. It is kind of a falsehood that you can succeed by JUST promoting your stuff on social media. I’ve found that to be false for both movies and books. I’m sure it has worked for someone, but we’ve always gotten better results when we’ve coughed up a few dollars to get our projects or my books in front of more eyes.
What are you reading now?
Not much at the moment outside of materials regarding publishing, promoting, and distributing books. I feel like I should read a poetry book, or maybe a good mystery soon.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Next for me as a writer is to get more of my completed works to the publishing stage, and get them out there for audiences. I have spent a lot of time reading, and I just reached a point where I knew I really had to start releasing stuff. A lifetime of work with the keyboard, now to actually share it with people who love to read! I’m hoping within a month or so to have the horror collection, “The Discomposure Agglomeration” out there for readers!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
First would be one of my unreleased Wolfshire books, called “Curse of the Vampiress”. It has become my favorite of the series, and I could read that one over and over. I think, as I mentioned earlier, Paul Stanley’s autobiography would be another one that would go with me. And probably some kind of DIY book like “How to build sea worthy rafts” would be my third choice, because being stranded on a desert island is just not going to work for me for very long…

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Blockbuster Love-Part 1: Romance: Lessons from the Movies on How to Create Lasting Love. I was inspired by my love for film and desire to help people build healthy relationships. Stories unite us and movies have a visual way of touching our lives en mass. So I thought, why not use movies to illustrate lessons about love.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No. I don’t think I do anything unusual. For this book I watched a lot of movies and studied the relationships between the characters. It was a fun project and labor of love.

I am a 26 year old with an overactive imagination and a great obsession with Vampires and all things that go bump in the night. In my fantastical world with my writing, I have come to appreciate the inevitable longevity of that which is immortal, like how passionate love would be and how pain would endure endlessly.
To date i have One book Published, A Blood Life.
I am in the process of writing the second book and intend to have at least ten of the short books dedicated to the series.

if you are a true writer you will find the story that you just have to tell and when that happens then you will wright with ease.
I have learned that if you are meant to tell a story and dedicate yourself to writing it, that you will finish it even if it takes years of starting over to find your line.
Research as you get an idea. write as you find the words.
Even if you only wright on sentence a day.
Keep at it.
Keep notes, read what you have till you can recite it as you have written it.
Live life, when you isolate yourself the mind can shut down. Focus becomes torture. Use the hard times to harvest emotional scenes and the joy to brighten the story.
Always remember the twist.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Life is hard, But you are strong.
When you get lemons make lemonade. Maybe add vodka.
this meaning that Manners, Respect, Hard work and dedication. Combined with Honesty will get you far in life. So keep at it and don’t give up. Follow your heart but guide the path with your mind.

A former English teacher and lover of all things romance and medieval, I love to blend the two and am excited to debut my first historical/medieval romance novels this month. To date I’ve released a free prequel novella and plan to publish the first Border Series full-length novel on March 2, 2017.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I am currently writing the third book in the Border Series. Like the others, it is set in 13th century Northumbria along the Anglo-Scottish border. Inspired by one event, the medieval tournament, this third installment will feature a winning Scottish tourney knight and the English lady who despises him. At first. After all, it is a romance.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I use the website calm.com while I write and listen to the closest background “noise” possible to match my scene. Whether it is the ocean or a roaring fire, I like to attempt to put myself in the location as much as possible while writing about medieval England from my very non-medieval Pennsylvania home.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Johanna Lindsey, Judith McNaught, Jude Devereux and Kathleen Woodwiss. I’m an 80’s romance girl at heart (with the exception of Monica McCarty).
What are you working on now?
I’m currently plotting the third full-length Border Series book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My “Border Ambassadors” or street team. They have been an amazing boost to my author career launch.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read, listen, and read some more. I thought as a former English teacher with a PhD in language/literacy that I knew how to write a novel. Wrong. Read Cathy Yardley, listen to podcasts like the Story Grid and never stop learning craft.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never force a story. Follow the muse, always.
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading outside of my genre, The Wheel of Time. In addition to historical romance I also adore fantasy.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Launching my career! It’s been a twenty-year dream so it is very exciting to actually (finally) be living a goal I set many years ago.

I would choose 3-4 books from the A Song of Ice and Fire series. I could read them 100 times and find something new each time.

Hi, I am Shyna Jones and am 23 years old with a burning passion to be the best at whatever I put my mind into. I worked in sales for a writing instrument firm and later on changed my career to flying. I worked as a flight attendant for 2 years and quit to learn cooking. From a very young age I have been inspired by my mother who always laid a wide variety of dishes to savor on our table. I remember as a child the fun times we kids had when we played ‘family’. And I always used to play the mother who prepared the best of dishes (used to place cookies and cream) for my children (my friends, usually my cousins). Growing up I realized its not as easy as putting up cookies on a plate for ‘meals’ when we played young. I understood the pain my dad undertook in bringing me up along with my siblings and how hard my mom worked to make us glad with the fancy meals that we ate and always delighted in. I learned cooking from my mother and in the quest to make it more interesting and short without compromising flavor, nutrition or quality, I turned to the Instant Pot Pressure cooking. It’s an art anyone can master even if they have no cooking skills. I began sharing my experience using the electric pressure cooker and some of the recipes, which by the way all my friends really loved. Thus, ‘Instant Pot Pressure Cooker Cookbook: Easy Recipes and the Ultimate Guide to Fast, Delicious, and Healthy Meals’ was born and it is the only book I’ve written so far.

My latest book is inspired by my goal to create recipes that would require a minimum time and would also be a ‘Hit’ on the table, it’s called ‘Instant Pot Pressure Cooker Cookbook: Easy Recipes and the Ultimate Guide to Fast, Delicious, and Healthy Meals’ by Shyna Jones.

No, I don’t have any unusual writing habits other than jotting down thoughts on a combination of recipe mixes to experiment and create something yummy!

The Bible has and still is a very influential book in my life.
What are you working on now?
Well, am still trying to create great recipes and when I’m ready, I’ll come out with a new book.

Well, this is my first book and I prefer paid promotions to free because you receive more value. I don’t have a specific website or a method to promoting books. If you’ve a great, tested and high quality content and you’re happy with it, I don’t think there’s any need to break your head promoting. If people like your work and they receive value from it, they will give you honest reviews. It takes time to yield fruits of hard work.

My name is Brandon True and I am very passionate about fitness and exercise. I have written one book so far but I plan on writing many more on the topic of personal fitness. My last book was also my first book and it is called “The Six Pack Secrets Nobody Wants You To Know”. Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Northern Ireland, served in the UK Air Force for twenty years and now live in Western Australia. I always had a passion for writing and in 2014 I finished my first novel, an alternate history called ‘A Time To Every Purpose’. Since then I’ve embarked on a series of crime thrillers featuring two women, Kara Wright & Tien Tran, who were both ex-military intelligence operators. The third Wright & Tran is due for release on the 10th of March 2017.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Fall Guys… I, like many others, watch the news of the multiple conflicts going on in the world and wonder who on earth is providing all these separate warring factions with their weapons. Apart from the major nation states, there must be facilitators and clandestine deals happening across the globe. That was the start point for Fall Guys and it sees my two main protagonists, Kara and Tien, thrust into a world of backroom deals, smuggling, betrayal and ultimately, an examination of old alliances.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t begin writing until I have what I call the “essential scenes” clear in my head. I do a lot of plot line development while driving and have my phone set up to record voice memos on handsfree. Once back in front of my PC, I can listen to the ideas and scope out the various touch points that will form the main arc of the story. After that, I begin to write and let the process furnish the extra details and fabric of the book.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
All of my books have got strong female lead characters. The likes of Philip Pullman’s ‘Dark Materials’ and John Marsden’s ‘Tommorrow When the War Began’ series were superb examples of that. Being that I was in the military, I used to inhale Tom Clancy’s novels and his particular take on the military thriller had a natural appeal to me. Michael Connolly and his eponymous Harry Bosch gave me a love of following how a character develops through time.
What are you working on now?
The next in the Wright & Tran series, called Family Ties. It’s about the attempted blackmail of a high court judge. I’ve also got an idea for a children’s book that has been kicking around in my head for a while, but Kara and Tien will probably win out.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I try to use a combination of Bookbub, Free Kindle Book & Tips, the Fussy Librarian and, of course, Awesome Gang. Partner those with a website, Facebook page and a Twitter account, occasional coverage in the press and an extensive list of library and bookshop appearances and it all adds up to a marketing strategy that, like every marketing strategy, is a gradually building snowball, rather than a dramatic avalanche.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read. Read and write what you like, what you are attracted to. Don’t take criticism too much to heart. Listen to it obviously and if the same things keep being repeated take a close look at what’s being said, but be gentle with your ego and psyche. Just take a minute to Google reviews of Charles Dickens and you will find numerous 1-star reviews criticising some of the classics of English Literature. It all has to be kept in perspective.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Oh, there has been soooo much good advice given to me, but I did like the simple thing said to me by a world-leading laser expert who provided background research material for my first novel. Modest and unassuming, she didn’t want to be acknowledged by name but said, when I queried if my twist on a fact would shatter the illusion, “Science Fiction is indeed fiction. Don’t get too worked up about the science.” On a ‘whole of life’ scale, I guess that early advice intoned by my parents and aunts and uncles still shines through, “You are better than no one and no one is better than you.”
What are you reading now?
I do tend to have more than one book on the go. So at the moment it’s John Birmingham’s A Girl in Time and I’m rereading Kipling’s Kim.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have the sketch ideas for at least a couple more Wright & Tran novels and through them I’d hope to increase the number of readers I have. As an independent author, increasing your public profile is hard work, but perseverance and persistence are key. My first novel came out in 2014, so it hasn’t been that long. In those three years I’ve been very fortunate, gaining invitations to a few writers festivals (including the 2017 Perth Writers Festival), running author events in Australia and the UK, being reviewed in the national press in both countries and gathering up favourable reviews on the online retail sites. It’s a simple case of following ‘Dory’, the patron saint of Indy Authors… ‘Just Keep Swimming’…

The complete Lord of the Rings… first book I ever reread and then read again and again and…
The complete works of Shakespeare. I’ve loved Shakespeare since I studied Julius Cesar at high school. Plus, it like LOTR, is big and would give me hours of reading time.
The complete collection of Poems by Kipling, because it’s Kipling’s poems… what more explanation do you need???
and if I can have a fourth, I’d take a volume of Irish myths & legends, including the Ulster, or Red Branch cycle, for the stories are literally timeless…

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is: “I was troubled by a traumatic childhood, a victim of child abuse and bullying. I often felt depressed, humiliated and resentful. I turned to fortune tellers. I found myself caught up in negative thoughts. But it was only when I turned to God that I was able to experience feelings of hope. “Life Transformed” is a testimony to the work of God in restoring one person’s life. Be challenged in learning what God can do in the midst of despair.”
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I keep writing and editing. I re-read the whole manuscript as I’m led by the spirit of God. I make quite a lot of changes and I also had more writing until I’m satisfied with it. I used several editors until my book reaches perfection. I don’t want to disappoint my readers!!!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My second book has brought a lot of emotion healing. I cried a lot upon finishing it.
What are you working on now?
I’m not writing for the moment as I’m busy looking for a job as a jobseeker advicer. I just got trained and qualified in that new field.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I just used the famous network of christians authors called john 3:16 marketing network to promote my books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep writing and editing until you get published. You might not sell any books now. As you promote it, you might reach a few readers who might be encouraged by your message. Never give up!!!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice is to keep writing what God has put in your heart for the world to be empowered!!! Get disciplined in everything you do!!!
What are you reading now?
I’m reading a book called : Naturally Supernatural, a christian french book about getting more of God power in our daily life.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I will be writing on my blog once I have found a job. I’m planning on writing a book of poems.

I am delighted that my first novel, Murder on Madeline Island: An Emily Swift Travel Mystery has been published by Cozy Cat Press. This novel kicks off a series that will feature an intrepid reporter who finds herself embroiled in crime as she writes travel articles. Like my fictional heroine, I love to travel and learn about the history, art and culture of other cities and countries. My lifelong love of travel began when I was eight years old and lived in Milan, Italy with my family. It was an unforgettable year of travel—skating in St. Moritz, visits to Sforza Castle, gondola rides, Easter Sunday in Florence, and tours of art museums. Now my husband and I get away for two or three fabulous weeks every other year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Murder on Madeline Island: An Emily Swift Travel Mystery is set on the most popular of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior. This was a natural choice for me because members of my writing group have been going to there for many years to review each other’s work, sail and hike. I really enjoyed writing about places we’ve been such as Tom’s Burnt Down Café, Big Bay State Park and the Madeline Island Museum. I think readers will enjoy learning about the island.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Like most writers, I just keep at it.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I really enjoy and have been influenced by the mysteries of Katherine Hall Page. Reading these witty and charming novels is a perfect way to relax after a busy day.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the next novel in the Emily Swift travel series. I won’t give away the plot by saying who goes with her to a beautiful tropical island, but it’s fun to write about.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Since my book has just been published, I’m still looking for ways to promote my book. I do have a website and have started to blog. I’ve also joined Sisters in Crime and Twin Cities Sisters in Crime to network and find out what has worked for other authors.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up. Keep sending your book out to agents and publishers. It’s no fun, but when you get published, it’s worth it.
What are you reading now?
I just finished reading Lovers at the Chameleon Club Paris 1932 and look forward to a fascinating discussion with my book group about this novel set in bohemian Paris during the Nazi occupation. And I’ve just started reading the delightful Rise and Shine by Anna Quindlen.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to continue writing the Emily Swift travel series and explore locations for the settings of future novels.

M L Hutchinson resides in the suburbs of Maryland, with her husband of twenty-three years. Preferring the fantasy of a classic movie or the happily ever after of a romance novel. I wouldn’t say unusual, however, the characters in my book have become my family. Therefore, I’ve gotten into the habit of saying good morning and good night to them.

I love Jane Austen and Janet Dailey, they are the reason for my love of the romance genre.

I’ve been writing a long time – 19 years, though my early works were cringe-worthy and are locked far away where no one will ever touch them. To date, I’ve published nine works; eight fiction novels and one poetry compilation. Two of those novels are now unavailable because we (my husband/co-writer and I) decided to revamp the series.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book series is “Shades of the Sea and Flame” (the first book in the series is free – “Blood Pearl” – but all five are available for purchase). It was inspired by some very trip reams I had and my incessant constant need to write about vampires. not the shiny kind, but the old vampire that I remember from the days of reading Anne Rice and Jeanne Kalogridis. In my mind, vampires are these lording monsters that are beautiful, dark, and painfully sexy.
I wrote “Shades of the Sea and Flame” when I found out I was pregnant and realised I had to make a change in my life in order to make a change for my baby’s future.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write without much of a plan. I must have rewritten “Shades of the Sea and Flame” five or six times before I was convinced of it. And by rewriting, I mean that I had it completely done and edited and then scrapped the entire project and started over. I do write in the naps my little girl takes, so I write in bursts of twenty to thirty minutes at a time and try to write five thousand words a day.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
That’s a very long list. I would have to say that, primarily, Anne Rice is my inspiration, but I have other equally strong feelings for vampire authors like Jeanne Kalogridis and Poppy Z. Brite. I also loved the works of Alma Katsu (author of “The Taker”), and I sometimes enjoy reading Laurell K. Hamilton. My all-time favourite author has to be J.K. Rowling, in terms of her impeccable storytelling.
What are you working on now?
My new work is another set of five stories that revolves around a more modernistic setting, again, vampires, because I am weak for vampires. The new series is untitled at the moment, but it is a discourse on the difference between what the world sees as evil and the real meaning of evil.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
This is the first time I am doing any real book promotion, so, thus far, it would have to be Awesome Gang.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Don’t get distracted, don’t think you aren’t good enough, don’t sit on your work for years and years waiting to be sure of it. It will never be perfect, you’ll always find fault with it. Write, and publish.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Writing is for the writer, but editing is for the reader.
What are you reading now?
“Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis” by Anne Rice.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My whole life I’ve had big dreams. I want to be the type of writer that can one day walk into a movie premier of my latest book release and have a slew of things to say while secretly feeling completely mystified that my books would ever have taken me that far, so… I guess, my next step as a writer is to quietly take over the world, one letter at a time. Muhahaha.
