What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel is “Weeping Well” the first book in the series. My life experiences inspired this book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes.
What authors, or books have influenced you?

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing and publishing. Getting my business ideas and inventions out there into the world.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe
The Outcasts of Poker Flats by Bret Harte

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Howdy Everyone!
I am Katharine E. Hamilton… author, writer, ranch wife, little sister, friend, new mom, and did I mention, writer?
My journey as an author started in 2008 with a simple gift to my niece, Taylor. Creating her a story all her own for a Christmas present, and seeing her reaction to a unique story made me start thinking about diving into the writing world. How simple a spark that would then lead to my first published work, The Adventurous Life of Laura Bell. Each story has a story all its own, based on people I love and special memories I share with them.
Laura Bell hit the shelves in 2009 and I quickly began work on my next book, Susie At Your Service. While working on this one though, I had several minor set backs. Computers failing, an apartment flood that soaked my illustrations, you name it, it happened. So what I thought would take a few months ended up taking me a year and a half to rewrite and redraw the illustrations and another year to push the publication forward. While working on Susie, I also had an idea for another book, Sissy and Kat. Let’s just say the year of 2012 was a busy year. Two books, changing jobs, moving to three different cities, and planning a wedding… really add up! But perseverance paid off, and Susie hit the shelves, officially, in January of 2013 followed by Sissy and Kat in March 2013.
As of April 3, 2015, my first adult fantasy fiction novel, The Unfading Lands, released on Amazon. Within it’s first four days, The Unfading Lands hit the Hot 100 New Releases, and has not slowed down from there. Part Two in The Unfading Land Series, Darkness Divided, released in October 2015 with a wonderful kick off and reached #20 on the Amazon Hot 100 list. Part Three, Redemption Rising, Part Three in The Unfading Lands released May 2016 and it did not disappoint either. The entire series has been nominated for the Summer Indie Book Awards of 2016, and The Unfading Lands, Book 1, has been nominated for the Best Indie Book Award for 2016.
As well as continuing the adventure in The Unfading Lands, I have also contributed a short story, If the Shoe Fits, to an Indie Author Anthology, by Ian D. Moore and Friends in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. All proceeds of sales of the anthology go straight to the charity. The anthology released in July 2015.
It has been quite a journey thus far and I am looking forward to several more chapters to come. For 2017, I already have a romantic suspense novel lined up for early release in February, and the work underway for another novel in the fall. On top of writing, I will also be collaborating with a couple of authors on their children’s books by providing illustrations. Let’s just say 2017 is looking fruitful and busy… just the way I like it.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Redemption Rising, Part Three in The Unfading Lands Series.
It is the last and final segment in the series and wraps up the incredible journey that has consumed my life for the last year and a half. The Unfading Lands Series was an idea I had for about nine years before I finally sat down and typed up the first manuscript. I had the plot mapped out well in advance, and despite a few changes along the way, for the most part, the overall story stayed the same as I originally planned. I can’t quite explain what inspired it, because parts came from a random dream I had one night, but then I also incorporate several tid bits from my personal life as well. The fact the series follows three siblings (I am the youngest of three), is an example.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unusual writing habits, hmmm…. I do best at my writing early in the morning. So it is not unheard of for me to wake up at 4 am to pound out a few chapters before the rest of the house wakes up. Oh, and I have this weird habit of naming all my characters the same name. Literally every rough draft I write my characters have the same names as the last book, until editing begins. THEN I go in and change them. It gives me more time to come up with the right names and the right fit.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love books. So many books…
Frank Peretti
Henry James
Clive Cussler
Francine Rivers
Jane Austen
All the above have been great influences. Anything they write just grips hold of me.
What are you working on now?
Currently working on the final phase of publishing a romantic suspense novella that is aimed to be released in February 2017.
And my big project for the year is a stand alone novel that I am aiming to release later this year or early 2018. It is taking large amounts of research, so as I write I am also digging into research, so it is a bit more time consuming than some of my other works.
I will also begin work on illustrations in the spring for several children’s works.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website, yes, is a big promotion platform. www.katharinehamilton.com
But also social media, Facebook, in particular. I have an author page on Facebook that has roughly over 3,000 members, and these people are my tribe. We have fun.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be confident in your skill and your story. If you love what you are doing, do not let anyone steal that joy from you. Believe in your work.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From my grandmother when she first read a children’s story of mine. She said, “Kid, I think you’re on to something here. I think you should pursue this.” I haven’t really looked back since.
What are you reading now?
Well, I am a new mom, so I am reading a couple of parenting books, because that’s what new parents do, right? Bringing up Boys, by James Dobson being the main one right now. But other than that, I am currently reading The Solomon Islands by Clive Cussler (Super GOOD!), Primed by the Past: Introducing Detective Annie Macpherson by Barbara Fagan Speake (Also, very good)
What’s next for you as a writer?
Well I have a lot of upcoming projects, however, I have spent time this year mentoring other prospective authors in various stages of publishing and writing, and I enjoy doing that. So I am actually looking at doing more of that one on one as well as offering up some advice through my website blog as well.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Portrait of a Lady by Henry James (b/c I’ve read that at least 7 times)
The Bible (b/c there’s always something intriguing to be discovered in there)
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
Harry Potter (Any or all)
The Unfading Lands by Katharine E…. wait…. that’s probably not what you meant. ;p

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m not a writer by profession. I work full-time as a business analyst, but enjoy doing photography and writing on the side. I’ve posted articles on LinkedIn and Autoblog, but I finally decided that I wanted to write a book. So I did.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is titled ‘Open the Door to a Wealthier Life’. It is somewhat of a niche book since it’s primarily targeted to Muslim readers, but really this book can be beneficial to anyone. I provide tips about money management, how to learn and build skills for little to no money, how investing works and how to get started, the purpose of investing, the differences between investment choices, how to prepare for retirement, etc.
What are you working on now?
I’m considering writing a book about tiger conservation. If I go ahead with this, it would be a non-scientific approach. I’d simply be writing from a wildlife enthusiast point-of-view, and hopefully raise awareness about the risk of extinction that the wild tiger faces.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
First, narrow down what you want to share with the world, and determine who your target audience is. Then form an outline for the book. Next, just write and let the ideas flow. Don’t worry about length; think quality over quantity.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Success is the best revenge.
What are you reading now?
Currently I am reading ‘Tiger’ by Stephen Mills.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to actually get some sales with my initial book. This was my first time writing a book, and it’s independently published via CreateSpace, so I’m not yet sure how much exposure I’ll be able to get. If I do get some sales, it would certainly encourage me to keep writing.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written two books – Sam & The Secrets of the Universe and Love from Mars. Both of them were recently released in December, and they’re both science fiction based. While these are my first two books, I’ve been telling stories professionally for years. I have created TV series and pilots for networks like Syfy, LMN, History, Destination, and Discovery. I studied film production at USC and have been weaving new stories ever since.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Sam & The Secrets of the Universe was inspired by an article about black holes. It’s a YA cosmic adventure where 15 year-old Sam wakes up on a different planet and is offered the opportunity to learn the secrets of the cosmos. He gets himself into some trouble along the way and gets sucked into a black hole. I love creating new worlds, and this books explores many!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to listen to French music when I write. Since the language is different, the lyrics don’t interrupt my flow.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Paulo Coelho, James Redfield, Tom Robbins, and Nicholas Sparks. I’ve also been influenced by non-fiction writers like Jean Houston and Abraham Hicks. They’re able to excite me with extraordinary ideas and concepts that don’t seem to fit mundane reality. They’re all about building your own version of reality which is fascinating.
What are you working on now?
I am currently outlining my third book, a YA science fiction called The Phoenix Gene. I have the second book in the Secrets of the Universe series outlined, and I plan to make audio books for Love from Mars and Sam & The Secrets of the Universe book one. Lots to do!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still figuring that out, but I have
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Outlines can save a lot of time because you can rework the story multiple times before actually digging in. If you have a detailed outline, it can save many rewrites. I also strongly recommend using beta readers to get outside feedback. Once you become too close to the words, it’s hard to see the bigger picture of how things are landing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Buy the ticket, take the ride. Life is too short to not enjoy it!
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Grace & Grit by Ken Wilber and You Before Me by Jojo Moyes.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to release two new books in 2017. Book Two of the Secrets of the Universe series, and a brand new one I mentioned earlier, The Phoenix Gene. I already have the cover designed for that one, so that’s a good motivator!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Alchemist, Autobiography of a Yogi, The Bhagavad Gita, and my journal.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Johnathan Clayborn. I publish fiction books as “JJ Clayborn” so as not to confuse them with my non-fiction works. I’ve written a couple non-fiction books, and done a lot of freelance writing for websites and blogs. I’m debuting the first novel in my series later this spring.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book is called “Starsong Chronicles: Exodus”. The entirety of the Starsong Universe as inspired by a dream that I had back in 2004. This book, Exodus, came about from trying to figure out why those events were happening.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
If I listen to music when I write, it can’t be anything with lyrics. I find that I get too distracted by the words.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love all of the great Scifi writers; Bradbury, Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein, Herbert, Card, etc. But the two that influence my writing the most are Larry Niven and Vernor Vinge.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a couple of things; a crime-fiction book called “The Fall”, a stand along pop-sci thriller called “Skin Deep”, and laying the foundation for more books within my Starsong series. I have 20 books planned out for that series, at least.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use lots of venues. Facebook pages, author interviews like this one, press releases, book clubs, reviewers, youtube.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every day. Be confident and tell us your story. And don’t listen to every single Beta-Reader that you use. You have to learn to pick and choose what feedback is important.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t try to please everyone. It’s your story, we’re just along for the ride. You tell us how it goes.
What are you reading now?
I’m re-reading Vernor Vinge’s “A Fire Upon the Deep”.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m working on quickly wrapping up “The Fall” and “Skin Deep” to clear them off my plate. I don’t like to leave things sitting. I’m also mapping out more background details in the Starsong Universe in preparation for the next books.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Honestly, it’d be something practical like: “how to make primitive handtools that work”, “ship-building 101 for dummies” and “sailing for dummies”.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a retired international installations engineer, a career that took me to more than 30 countries and left me with memories of so many cultures. Some of the memories I would rather forget. I have seen things that nobody should have to see. Still, the experiences allow me to write better stories.
I have written three novels so far, am working on a fourth, and just began a fifth.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
When Things Go Bang is a story I have wanted to write for a long time. It’s inspired by my own dysfunctional childhood in the village of Hightown, on the Mersey coast.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write when I can visualise complete scenes. It is literally like playing a video in my head. I just write down what the people do. Really, I’m a reporter.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
HG Wells, JG Ballard, Bryan Aldiss.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am beginning a sequel to When Things Go Bang
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social marketing!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My best advice for new authors is to allow your characters to drive the story rather than impose your own. I believe outlines are the death of originality.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To join a critique group. I spent several years in a serious critique group and it was invaluable.
What are you reading now?
Kingdom Come, by JG Ballard (2006)
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to write a sequel to When Things Go Bang, and finish my UK thriller, but the next thing to come is my memoir, at 103,000 words and 80 images, it took me quite a while. I just need to commission the cover art.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Lotus Sutra (Buddhist)
The Drowned World (JG Ballard)
World of Chance (Philip K Dick)

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have been writing for over twenty years and spread onto the internet in 2004. I write what I know and what interests me at the time. I started a website in my mid-20s on frugal living to share what I was learning as my husband and I got by on one income. A Celiac diagnosis led me to writing about living a gluten free life. I wrote a book about the foster system to help me process the adoption of our children. Now, as I look back on all that I have learned about enhancing my spirituality in the last two decades, I am focusing on sharing the life lessons and spiritual life that have led me to where I am today. I have published six books and illustrated one children’s book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called How to Find More Joy : 90 Days to a Happier You. The last few years have been difficult and beautiful while my husband and I went through the process of fostering, and then adopting, three wonderful children. I realized that I had lost a great deal of joy in that time and, as I talked to others around me, I understood that I wasn’t alone. Many people are unhappy. I wrote this book to help others raise their joy much as I have had to raise mine over the last year.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to be unstructured and will write as fast as I can go then stop for weeks at a time. This year I am working on being more disciplined!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a science fiction/fantasy book reader at heart. Robert Jordan and Tad Williams are two of my favorite authors. I also enjoy reading self-help and spiritual books.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on writing and illustrating a children’s book. I love being able to combine my love of drawing and my love of writing together!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use Twitter and Facebook to promote my books but am reaching out to other areas this year.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write anything, just keep writing. I’ve written blogs, newspaper articles, online magazine articles, how-to’s, poetry and books. Some years I wrote less than others but not giving up has made me the author I am today.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Do as I say, not as I do.” I love this one, my mom used to say it to me all the time when I was growing up. To me, it means do not blindly follow anyone, whether you are listening to them or watching them.
What are you reading now?
I am reading a book about manifestation.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My goal is to focus this year on sharing my spirituality.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The War of the Flowers by Tad Williams, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, and book 1 of the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
There’s two books out there with my name on them.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I wrote a small book called The Artist, The Audience and a Man Called Nothing. It was inspired, you may have guessed, by a man called Mr. Nothing. This man is an actor who performs instead of lives. He’s also so interesting that I simply had to write a book about him and our exchanges.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I only write between the hours of 2 am and 5 am. During this time I drink liquidised kale and broccoli. If I’m writing while I’m nervous, I tend to scratch my back until it bleeds. Which forces me to stop writing and consider the state of my mind, which is in tatters. I patch myself up and continue writing. This ultimately calms me down and prepares me for a sound, dreamless sleep.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Greatest Book Ever Written by The Greatest Writer Alive Today.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on giving Mr. Nothing another story to live within. His voice gets screechy when he complains, it’s giving my sanity a hard time.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon.com OF COURSE.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t write between the hours of 2 am and 5 am. Things get strange.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Drink liquidised kale and broccoli while writing.
What are you reading now?
Treasure Island. Who know who wrote it.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To write, write, write.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The longest book ever written, to burn.
The second longest book ever written, to use as a pillow to sleep on.
And the Little Prince because I love to feel emotions that leave me wrecked and weepy.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Dakota Willink. I am a contemporary romance writer and editor, and the author of The Stone Series. I am an associate member of Romance Writers of America and a Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards winner. At this time, I have two books in my series published, with the third coming later this year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Stepping Stone. It is a continuation from Heart of Stone, the first book in The Stone Series. I began writing the series because I always wanted to write, but I made excuses about not having enough time. Then one day, I met someone locally that had written and published. She was a wife and mother of three, and just as busy as I was. So, to make a long story short, I just sat down at the computer one day and started typing. I didn’t have a plan or an outline, I just wrote the first things that came to mind. It was that simple.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
The littlest noise is often a distraction (which makes my family crazy sometimes). We have a lot of “silent time” at home when I’m working. However, when I’m struggling with writers block, I put the computer to bed and scroll through my iPod to find music for inspiration.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My biggest inspiration is J.K. Rowling because she never gave up. Her strength and perseverance to tell her story is awe-inspiring. For those that don’t know how she came to be where she is today, I urge you to look into her background.
What are you working on now?
Set in Stone (the 3rd book in The Stone Series).
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best results I’ve seen are from Facebook ads and through the work that my P.A. does in various Facebook Groups. I’ve experienced mixed results from other websites.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up. It’s hard work, but determination is key. I once read somewhere that 97% of writers don’t finish their book. I don’t know how true that is, but if that number is accurate, it makes me sad to think about all the great unfinished stories out there. Strive to be among the 3% of writers. Become an author.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s not advice per say, but a quote that I like to live by:
“Do one thing every day that scares you.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
What are you reading now?
I just bought a paperback copy of The Protector by Jodi Ellen Malpas. I’m really looking forward to reading it!
What’s next for you as a writer?
After I finish Set In Stone, I’m not sure if I’ll start a new series or a standalone. I have ideas for both, so time will tell.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Without a doubt, it would be the last 4 books in the Harry Potter Series.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a self published author who has released five full-length books, although I’ve written more. My first novel was historical spy fiction, then I wrote two historical mysteries involving a female ghost. The series I’m currently working on is a YA fantasy thriller about the threatened existence of a system of libraries where books can come to life. I’m a former television journalist, but I much prefer writing fiction over fact, that way, every story ends just the way I want it to.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called “Third Chronicles of Illumination” and it continues the invasion of the libraries that started with the fifth adventure of the Library of Illumination series. The subtitle of the book is: “Games.” There are a few obvious competitions going on in the book including a new sport called Bullaroot, which I created just for the under-15-year-old residents of one of the worlds in the library system. There’s another competition on a different world to determine the ranks of women in their militia, but the biggest game is between my two protagonists, who love each other but are not necessarily adept at showing it.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t call it unusual. I write about several different worlds and while all the stories are interwoven, I strive to make sure each culture retains its individuality. I usually write in short scenes, so I may write several scenes all at once for one world, and then mix and match them with scenes I’ve written for the other worlds—to create my chapters. Writing several scenes at once helps with the continuity and keeps me in the mindset of one particular world until I’ve said what I need to say for that particular section of the book.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Charles Dickens and I share a birthday, and I’ve always been a fan of his writing, even if I felt some of it was a little dark. Like him, I’m an episodic writer. I’ve read Catherine Coulter’s entire FBI series and enjoy the way she integrates a love story in every one. And Mary Higgins Clark’s use of shorter scenes and chapters has influenced the way I format my fiction because I believe it adds tension and flow to the story. I also modeled my pen name after the “initial” authors: J. R. R. Tolkien, J. K. Rowlings, and George R. R. Martin.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on “Fourth Chronicles of Illumination,” which is the next book in the Library of Illumination series. I’m also working on the “Illumini Compendium,” which is a short companion book about the different worlds and cultures in the Library of Illumination system.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Groveling comes to mind when I contact bloggers who have written about my books in the past. I spend a lot of time researching promotional sites (like Awesome Gang) that list a book for a reasonable amount, or for free. Fiverr promotions work well for me. And then there’s paid advertising on AMS—Amazon Marketing Service. I combine them all. I also sign up for a virtual book tour for every new full-length book. And I have an email list of fans whom I write to four times a year to tell them about upcoming releases, or reduced prices or giveaways.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you want to be an author, read, read, read. I can’t understand why some people who hate to read want to write books. Reading familiarizes you with language usage, and the memes of writing in a particular genre. And it teaches authors about their competition, and shows them what has already been done. Not to mention, it can be inspiring.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I ever heard was not about the craft of writing but about the business of it. Roughly, it said, “don’t quit your day job.” But more specifically, the advice was to have your finances in order with no outstanding debt before giving up a regular paycheck to write full time.
What are you reading now?
I have about a dozen books written by indie writers on my Kindle app right now that I read when I work out on the treadmill. I especially love young adult fiction, time travel, fantasy, mystery, thrillers—the genres I write it.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to complete the Library of Illumination invasion trilogy, and then continue the series as one-off books. I ‘d love to return to my Evangeline’s Ghost series and continue with that. I only published the first book. The second book is written and needs to be edited. And the third book is fully outlined with tons of research, which is odd for me, because I’m what’s known as a “pantser,” which is someone who writes by “the seat of their pants.” So having a book fully plotted out is a rarity for me.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d cheat. I’d bring my Kindle e-reader, which is the size of a small book, yet could keep me entertained for years. I love to read. On average, I read two to three books a week, unless I get one I don’t like. Then the pace slows down. I will try to get through it because some books perk up after a while. But I will stop reading a book if I think it’s awful.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Right now it’s snowing and I want to go play. Let’s go! If only!
Well, I am the author of two novels in the Blue Solace series; Blue Solace (Book 1) and Home (Book 2). Book three (Rebirth) is coming this year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Home (Book Two is the latest one I have published in the Blue Solace series). When I was in high school my English teacher asked me if I had considered a future in writing… I had not.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My space has to be clean before I can be creative. I can write if the room is messy.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t worry about what others think. They don’t pay the bills.
What are you reading now?
Stephen Kings The Bazaar of Bad Dreams
What’s next for you as a writer?
Ideas for my next book! Book 4!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Springtime in Autumn, and probably a book about being stranded on a deserted Island! (Laugh)

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written over 25 books of fiction and non-fiction and seem to take turns moving between one and the other, which provides a nice balance to my work. I have also several children’s and young adult books. Much of my work is driven by an interest in history, whether that is telling stories from history or writing alternative histories.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Floating City is a book set in Renaissance Italy, in a Venice-type city, but where magic is real. I was inspired to write it while traveling in Italy and looking at the machines and inventions of the Renaissance and thinking some of them must have seemed like magic to people at the time…
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Every book seems to have its own different way of being written. Some have been written in the mornings and some in the evenings. Some in fast bursts of energy and some painfully slow.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Modern Irish and American authors that play with form impress me a great deal, such as Michael Chabon and Colum McCann and Mike McCormack.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a book that re-imagines Captain Cook’s voyage to Australia, whereby he is wrecked on the Great Barrier Reef, his ship sinks and he and his crew have to come ashore and find a way to survive with very little, and a reversal of power roles with the indigenous peoples.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
www.craigcormick.com
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Write some more. Then write a bit more still. Also, don’t presume that the book you most need to write is the book that somebody else most needs to read. Once you have written the book you most need to write, you then need to find a way to transform it to the book somebody wants to read.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Everybody will give you advice on what worked for them, but you need to find your own path.
What are you reading now?
So many things. Fantasy and literary fiction and short stories and anthologies of the best short stories of the year.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Complete the book on Captain Cook I am writing, that I call my Cook Book.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Empty note books so I could fill them with writing.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Written is not the same thing as published. But I’ve published three. Before I was writing science fiction, I was writing poetry. I was so proud of this one that I made a special trip to New York on the Amtrak, just to visit the Poet’s House and get the book into their library stacks. If it’s still there, I have no idea but if and when I ever finish my second poetry book I’ll be going back. I’m far too into science fiction to do it right now.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Beneath the Black Crescent the title itself comes from naval stories like Under the Black Ensign,(there’s a million titles like that with any number of other flags or ensigns) where folks are pressganged into being pirates or serving on vessels. And indeed, one character had been acting as a hired assassin on the Crescent’s behalf, while another fights in the arena against Crescent mercenaries.
I’m not a huge fan of swashbuckling adventures so the similarities end there.
But the title reveals more about the book. The group called the Black Crescent does loom over the book and adds to the tension of the story. There is also the fact that the tunnels lying beneath the part called the Black Crescent, are where some of the action takes place, and where, the characters will be returning to in the future. Sure the Crescent are trouble, but the real importance is that lies “beneath.”
This is my way of un-subtly hinting to readers, that this is going to be important and you should watch out for these Crescent Folks.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Oh a ton. I used to only write at 4am and only when I had not touched a drop of coffee. Now I only write well when I wake up at 7am and I drink plenty of coffee.
I like tiny laptops with tiny keyboards and when I can’t find one, I have a tiny bluetooth keyboard I can use. On road trips I’ll dictate into google docs, and the program misinterprets me so much that only I can remember what I had intended to say and change it into something other than gibberish.
I write in chunks, and most of the chunks have a beginning, middle and end. I think this comes from reading a lot of short stories by Chekhov and Joseph Conrad and from writing poetry. Each poem has to have a certain movement to it, a finality at the end that also reveals something and informs the rest of the writing, and each poem should have a title that serves a purpose, so my chapters come out the same. Rarely do I have a chapter whose only purpose is to continue something that was said in the previous chapter. They all have a meaning of their own.
This is book two. In book one, I was writing a little more like Vonnegut. The chapters were rapid-fire whenever possible and short….unless the character Sebastian was talking, then they tended to go long, because he is a talker.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I don’t ready in the genre that I write. In science fiction I like Arthur C. Clarke. The rest of the time I like late 1800’s literature, early 1900’s, especially American writers, but really, across the globe, anything from that time period can hold my attention.
What are you working on now?
At the time of this writing, I’ve just published the second Atlas book.
While I was writing that, I managed to write a hundred page novella about one of the side characters. Edwina had hardly been introduced, but I was already working with her. She is sort of a combination of my two main characters, the unlikeable, and often injured Julian, and the very capable, very likeable, but also very full of himself Sebastian.
She’s got some unusual abilities we have not seen on the world of Atlas. They’re hinted at but not explained in book two. But this story goes into depth with them and people who read it will understand her very well when she comes around again in Atlas three.
That’s almost done. I’d like to write another two or three chapters before I proofread it, and should be publishing it in april or may. Sooner if I can make more room in my schedule.
And then there’s book three. I’ve got no production timeline for book three yet. I need to take a breather and think about the broader story arc, which I’ve planned and how long I want to drag this series out. As much as I like having a completed set…many things are still being revealed. I think Atlas has a cough up some more secrets before I can even begin thinking about an end to the books.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I tell a lot of people about the book, I don’t want each one of those interactions too feel like me asking for money. So I give it away on amazon. And if people like it, they can payfor book two.
I’m also a painter, so selling paperbacks at art markets, especially the one in New Orleans, while not super profitable, has been a great way to meet people, to get advance readers and to grow a little email list. I can see how digital books make it possible to work on a much larger scale, but for someone who’s just starting out, with no budget, work with your local libraries and bookstores, don’t expect them to sell copies, get out there and do it yourself. People will remember those in person meetings.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
You can only do so many things at once. I wanted to sail around the world. I was working on different boats, learning to sail in rough weather, at the same time I was trying to become a painter and a poet and learning to write novels. One day, the captain says to me: you know, if you really want to be a great sailor, you can’t do anything else. (Yes, I know it’s strange to think of sailing as a profession, but there are a few people out there who want to be famous sailors. Is that a real thing?…I don’t know.)
Anyway, I realized he was right. I was on a path to do some amazing sailing on old schooners and probably run a ship of my own someday and it was going to be to the exclusion of everything else.
Now, I think writing is different. It’s one of the few things you can do that works around your own schedule. But that early phase, when you’re developing your craft, and this later phase, of building a career, earning a living at it, that’s not going to fit nearly in alongside the rest of your life. It sometimes means writing to the exclusion of everything else. And when you see those periods approaching, and can make the time for them, you can make room for them and well, as to the money part, the jury’s still out. I’ll let you know when my books become wildly successful.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Advice doesn’t mean anything. Read the Tao Te Ching, read Plato. Understand the way in which your own experience distorts your understanding of reality. A great side effect of understanding your own motivations, is that it becomes easier to write believable characters.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading the fourth Wheel of Time book, and an advance copy of JW Lumpkin’s Redemption of Trust fantasy novels.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a few more books to write in this series. But I’m thinking of a new series, something very similar to what I’m writing now, but a little more in the Fantasy sphere and less Scifi.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Edible books? I don’t know.
I would bring Walden, Moby Dick, collected short stories of EA Poe, and collected short stories of Chekhov. I would probably get sick of Melville and toss him in the ocean, but the rest would be worth re-reading.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written a few books in the past- I started in 2012 writing my first horror novel Tartarus and then went onto a mystery series called The Adventures of Benedict and Blackwell. My latest novel is The Contract of Maddox Black.
Writing is a bit of an addition- I think a lot of writers say that, but for me it really is a necessity as well. I create worlds that I can escape into. Sometimes the everyday is either too boring or painful- creating a place where you can be or do whatever you want sounds like a pretty good option to escape reality.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called The Contract of Maddox Black. I wrote this whilst travelling Australia and New Zealand. It’s strange to think of needing a place to escape to when you’re in paradise, but that’s what I needed. I needed to escape. I created this cold dismal place with a character who wanted to tear the world apart. She wanted redemption. She was an addictive character to write. I actually would very much have liked to have a drink with her. It was fun creating a grey character that wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I enjoy writing about people I would like to meet. My writing is completely self indulgent so I write the places I want to be. Sometimes the story can twist off track- that is usually caused by a rum every now and again, but that’s just life. Sometimes the main character has to stop along her adventure to get stuck in a bar fight or answer a riddle. That’s the beauty of writing. Sometimes even the writer doesn’t know what’s going to happen. I still don’t.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Kim Harrison influenced me a lot in sense of writing in a genre you love reading. At University I was surrounded by a lot of contemporary styled writers. But I love the self indulgent genre that if Fantasy.
Write what you love.
What are you working on now?
Currently editing the 2nd and 3rd books in the Maddox Black Series. I’m excited!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best thing to remember is to have your social media channels updated- your readers want to know what you’re up to! It’s like keeping in touch with a friend- if you stop talking to them, they usually won’t be wanting to know what you’re up to. It’s about consistency and understanding that writing a book is only half of the journey.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just not to take no for an answer. Understand it’s a journey. Your writing style with change as you progress. If you love what you do, you wont care about anything else.
Don’t stop.
Don’t you ever stop.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You are the author of your own life. Create your own story.”
What are you reading now?
Reading Kelley Armstrong at the moment. I absolutely love her style.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Carrying on with editing the books in this series. I would like to branch off into another storyline, but I don’t think that’s going to happen for a while- I’ve become too obsessed about Maddox Black and her world.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“How to Survive Anything,” may be a good start.
“Complete Works of Shakespeare,”
“Lord of the Rings.”
“The Crimson Petal and the White.”

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up loving fairy tales and romance novels, and have lived a life of travel, adventure, and writing. I have enjoyed teaching English in both Europe and Asia, worked as a librarian and a journalist, and backpacked across the American Southwest and Northwest Coast.
I’ve won numerous awards for her adult nonfiction, short stories, and poetry, under different pen names. I also love podcasting.
I write full-time, and live in Colorado with my two dogs, Angel and Elric. I enjoy camping and hiking with pups, and draw much of the inspiration for my work from my love of nature.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Marisol Vol. 2. It’s a story a friend and I made up together. We both love foxes, and there aren’t a lot of romance novels that focus on fox shapeshifters, though there are plenty of werewolves. When I wrote it all up, what I wanted to create was something that didn’t follow traditional storytelling structure. I wanted a series of books that felt like a traditional fairy tale.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to wear hats, while I write! The sillier the better. My favorite is a big green squid that I got at a carnival booth.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love sword and sorcery authors, and really foofy and talented fantasy writers. Michael Moorcock is one of my all time favorites. Also Ursula K. LeGuin, Patricia A. McKillip, and Tad Williams. I am slowly working my way through all the classics of fantasy, I have a big list of titles I’m checking off one at a time.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on Marisol Vol. 3. It’s going to be a long project, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. I would also like to try and write a few children’s books, since that’s something I’ve never done before.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I actually use a tumblr! I do a lot of doodling and artwork, and I’ve found that site is a good platform for it.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what you love, even if it’s magical fox shapeshifters in a big crazy fairy land. Whatever is really fun for you is the thing you’re going to be able to really stick with. Even if it’s silly, sticking with it is worth a lot.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I think the best advice I ever got in terms of writing is to let go of perfectionism. We all have these ideas for these really perfect, really beautiful stories we want to create. When we start writing them out, they’re never as good as we imagined, and that can be discouraging. But it’s okay. It’s all right to fall short of perfection, to let the story just be the best you can make it, even if it’s not the flawless, shining accomplishment you had in mind. What you really want is to just do the best you can, to finish something that’s good enough, and stick with what’s important to you.
What are you reading now?
Right now I’m reading “The Gentleman” by Forrest Leo.
What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing! More fiction, maybe some picture books and poetry.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Alice in Wonderland, for sure. It’s my all time favorite.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a writer and high school English teacher born and raised in Portland, OR. I spent my youth wandering the forests and fields of the Pacific North West, always looking for the next adventure (especially if it involved camping and fly fishing). I also played college baseball and chased women in my younger years–which has definitely given me a lot of fodder to write about.
So far I’ve only published one novel, Cherry City Pulp, but I’ve been writing fiction now for 18 years–this just happens to be the first one I’ve felt worthy of publishing. I do have a short story available (not for the faint of heart) on Medium.com and my blog http://chuckingrocks.com/ called “God Save Us All.”
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Cherry City Pulp. It’s a fictional story based on some of my experiences teaching in Salem, OR. Salem’s different–I get into why that is in the book–but suffice it to say that there’s a distinct mix of people. It’s both very Oregon and at the same time, reminds one of a medium size town in the South or Midwest.
I also wanted to capture what high school might be like from several different perspectives, which is why two characters are students and one is a teacher. It was so fun to think about what the high school experience is like from these different angles, and that definitely comes out in the story.
Additionally, there are some experiences close to my heart: fishing, wine tasting, and baseball. I find that if you write about stuff you know, it’s much more authentic.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can’t write at my house. I do so much better if I’m at a coffee shop or a bar. It’s the people. When I’m around other people, it reminds me of observations I’ve made about human nature–I think that’s what makes me a good writer, and I hope my readers appreciate that–I want my characters to feel real, to capture the essence of what it means to be human.
I also write when I can’t sleep–then I have to write at home, because it’s usually like 3 in the morning and no one’s open!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve read JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings at least 15 times. So obviously, he’s a big influence, though I suppose there isn’t a direct line there, because I’ve only dabbled with writing fantasy–and Cherry City Pulp is contemporary fiction.
Otherwise, I draw inspiration from Kurt Vonnegut, Jess Walter, Hemingway, Alice Walker, Ursula LeGuin. Oh, and Steinbeck. I absolutely love Steinbeck. I read “The Grapes of Wrath” for the first time recently and it absolutely blew my mind.
Ken Kesey is right up there for me as well–Sometimes a Great Notion is just phenomenal. Plus, he’s an Oregon boy, so I like that.
The cool thing about being an English teacher is that I get to read and re-read great literature all the time.
What are you working on now?
Not sure what’s next. I think it’d be fun to do sci-fi, fantasy, or post-apocalyptic, but then I also find our contemporary society fascinating. I also have a book I wrote before called “Throw the First Stone” and I might try re-working it into a novella. It just wasn’t ready for prime time when I finished it and it’s been sitting on my shelf for the last six years while I worked on Cherry City.
I do blog a lot–usually once a week. But that’s about political stuff. If you’re interested, http://chuckingrocks.com/
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Still working on that one. Trying this site–hopefully I get a bump! Otherwise I’ve just been posting to Facebook and Twitter and Reddit, talking to people, emailing my blog list. So it’s a work in progress!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Just write. Write all the time, as much as you can. It doesn’t even matter. What’s crazy is that even in writing my political stuff, I’m getting better at fiction–the more familiar you are with how you can use language to express ideas, the better your writing will be. And the only way you can learn is to do–so frickin’ write!
Also, understand that you will get rejected, rejected, rejected, and even your friends and family will be less help to you than they ought. But you have to keep going. And doing that is very difficult–it requires a strong belief in yourself and a belief in your writing.
Oh, and write a blog. It’s a great way to connect with readers and it forces you to practice.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I’ll put two here:
1) 90% of life is showing up every day. I try to apply that to my writing. But seriously, if you get out of bed every day and do what you’re supposed to do, things usually turn out OK.
2) Don’t try to be 100% better in a single leap. Instead, be 1% better each day.
What are you reading now?
Vonnegut’s “Breakfast of Champions.” One of the few of his I haven’t yet read.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Figuring out what I’m going to write about
Hopefully getting rich and famous.
Kidding–I want to continue to write stories that readers find entertaining, interesting, and that say something about human nature or the society in which we live.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Lord of the Rings, Watership Down, The Old Man and the Sea, and Sometimes a Great Notion.

“My Own Fairytale” is the latest short story featured in the Anthology -“From the Closet of the Heart”. It’s a book about real-life stories of love, gratitude, remembrance, and the apologies. Stories that are so relatable that you would want to hug the book close to your heart.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I find my muse in the darkest hours of the night, I wake up in the middle of the night with an urge to write down my dreams.
If I sit religiously to write, I am hardly able to write a word and end up staring at the wall for hours. It is my flaw as a writer, but I feel it comes naturally to me or not at all. I have been blogging since five years, I write about things that matter to me and I have been successful in raising voice against social issues in my own little way.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a die hard fan of Bronte Sisters. My favourite books include- Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath, John Keats, Paulo Coehlo and Robin Sharma have influenced my life to a great extent through their writings.
” Waiting for Godot” is another book that changed me as a person.
What are you working on now?
I am working on my stand alone novel, Timeless which is a journey into the parallel world, multiple realities and time travel. It might take few more months, but it is my dream to put it out into the world.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I promote my books on the websites like Goodreads, Reader’s Digest, Bookbub and Robin reads but
Unbiased reviews through bloggers can be very useful.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Writing is a very weird profession, you are your own hero and nobody much can help you but yourself but the good news is that there’s always someone who needs to hear what you know already, say it, write it, they need it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It was not an advice but an email from a stranger who has been reading my blog, he confessed that reading me helped him overcome depression when he was having suicidal thoughts. I was taken aback, I realised that there are a lot of people who are reading me without ever leaving a comment or a word of appreciation, but as silent spectators, my words have made an impact on many lives and since that day, I started to feel responsible for my readers.
What are you reading now?
” The Zahir” by Paulo Coehlo and biography of Coco Chanel
What’s next for you as a writer?
I do not plan my life, it never went as per the plan, I go with the flow wherever it takes me.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
Songs of Innocense and Songs of Experience by William Blake
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m currently sitting in snowy central Oregon with my dogs Story and Link by my side. I’ve published 3 books to date. Two are part of a series about America’s rarest breed of dogs and the man that raises them. The other is a stand alone college romance and coming of age story about a runner named Benson Wilder.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “Faith In Every Footstep.” It was inspired by my first book, “Hope In Every Raindrop,” and written as a prequel to delve deeper into the world of Kyle Walker and his rare breed of dogs.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure if it’s unusual, but I don’t enjoy writing at home. So, I usually pick one place in town and write the entirety of the book there over the course of 3-4 months. I wrote my last book at my local Subway
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I grew up reading a lot of essays and poetry. So, people like Emerson and Thoreau have had a big impact. Lately I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy, such as Tolkien, Martin, Rothfuss, Salvatore.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the third (and possibly final) book in my Faith, Hope, and Love series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Unfortunately the best method I’ve found is a Book Bub promotion. However, since I’ve read A LOT of dog books, and now written about a fictional breed of dogs, posts like this have helped get the word out there about my book: http://wesleybanksauthor.com/best-dog-books/
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be patient and persistent. I read a statistic recently that most successful authors have at least 13 published books. Find a good group of readers that like your work and just keep writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I’m not sure what the absolute best advice I’ve been given is, but in college a successful businessman told me there’s money in everything…if you’re good enough at it. In other words, if you want to make a living at something you love, excel at and you’ll find a way.
What are you reading now?
I’m re-reading Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, in hopes he’ll release Doors Of Stone soon.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As I mentioned above, I’m working on my third book in my Faith, Hope, Love series. I know it’s sometimes frowned upon to switch genres, but I have an outline for a fantasy series I want to work on next.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible for wisdom, something by Seneca or Marcus Aurelius for enduring stoicism, Name Of The Wind for fun, and then a book on survival or farming so I could stay alive to read the other there.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live with my family in The Chilterns, to the west of London. I’ve been writing for six years, during which time I have published two books; The Unorthodox Arrival of Pumpkin Allan and The Unorthodox Exploits of a Shire of Cards.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Unorthodox Exploits of a Shire of Cards is the second in the Pumpkin Allan Series. It’s set in a very unusual rural hamlet in The Chilterns. Inspired by my intrigue in rural life, fascination with quirky characters and love of the countryside, it has laugh out loud moments as well as some traumatic events.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write in my local Starbucks as a rule… One day I may publish a book called, ‘How Many Chai Tea Lattes Does it Take to Write a Novel?’
It’s an expensive way of doing things, but the atmosphere just seems to work.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mark Hadden’s A Spot of Bother; James Herriot’s series, All Creatures Great and Small; Cold Comfort Farm, by Stella Gibbons; Notwithstanding, by Louis de Bernieres; The Best a Man Can Get, by John O’Farrell; The Rosie Project, by Graeme Simsion and A Man Called Ove, by Fredrik Backman. What do all these books have in common? They make me laugh out loud and make me cry!
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a third book in The Pumpkin Allan Series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Free kindle promotions combined with using sites such as Awesomegang!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My aim is to have as many readers as possible for my books; hence the free promotions. Knowing people are reading them and getting good feedback are great motivators for writing more.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” ― Maya Angelou
What are you reading now?
The Trouble With Goats and Sheep, by Joanna Cannon.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My next step is dependent on the success of The Pumpkin Allan Series… if readers want more, there’s plenty more to write.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon
Whit by Ian Banks
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
It Shouldn’t have happened to a Vet by James Herriot

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Susan’s love of stories began before she could read or write. Her earliest childhood memories are of a make believe game she played with her sister, creating and telling an epic story inspired by a picture chosen at random from a National Geographic magazine. Susan spent her summers reading and writing sometimes serious, sometimes humorous works of fiction, imagining the worlds beyond her bedroom walls. Susan is an avid reader of literature, especially science fiction and fantasy. She loves to bring new worlds and fantasy adventures to young adults and inspire them to join her on her make believe journeys. Susan has just typed the words “The End” on the last book of the Spirit Shield Saga, which is comprised of a prequel novella entitled Soul Survivor and three full length novels Seer of Souls, Soul Sanctuary and Soul Sacrifice.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I just finished writing Soul Sacrifice, the last book of my Spirit Shield Saga, which I started writing three years ago. It feels good and also strange to complete a whole series. The process was an eye opening one, as any author can attest to. It was inspired by my love of fantasy and the death of my mother, and the inevitable questions that come up when one passes on to the next great adventure.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always write with music playing. I find that when it is quiet, I am easily distracted. I love to write out on the deck in the summertime. Smart pop is my favorite munchie and I have been known to sip on a glass of wine or two while writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Robert Jordan, JK Rowling, Terry Goodkind are some of the earlier ones, and lately VE Schwab and Brent Weeks I find entertaining.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am writing the prequel to my next series, which I plan to be a series of 12 books (yes 12!) set in a fantasy realm once again. I have entitled it “The Heart Of The Citadel” and am excited to begin it. I have some fun things planned for it and am picking up on an aspect of magic that no one has visited in a long time. Its going to be unique, that is for sure!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to promote my books on my website ( http://susanfaw.com/spirit-shield-saga/ ) because I have control over them there. Being that I am an indie author, I have more control of them on my own site.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write more books, always write more books. and start building your mailing list yesterday.
What are you reading now?
The Blood Mirror by Brent Weeks
What’s next for you as a writer?
More series and more series. More study into my mail system and learning how to work with it more effectively. Continue to build my mailing list and get the news of my books in front of as many people as possible. And network, always network.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Harry Potter Series, The Wheel of Time and Terry Goodkind.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a retired sportswriter, grandpa and now a novelist. I have written six books (two each of sci-fi, mystery-thriller and historical sports non-fiction) and have been a contributor to two Sherlock Holmes anthologies.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Escaping Infinity. It was inspired by a combination of a line from the Eagles “Hotel California” and a recurring nightmare I was having a few years back. One night everything just snapped into place and I had the whole novel laid out in my head.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
The only one I can think of is when I am writing mysteries – and this applies only to mysteries – I have the movie “Witness For The Prosecution” playing on the TV in the background.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Edgar Allan Poe and Jack McDevitt.
What are you working on now?
The third book in the Jack Del Rio series, Shades, and a new sci-fi project, When The Gods Fell.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Right now it seems posting in Facebook groups related to the genre has been working best.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing, no matter what, no matter who says what. If you can envision no other path for yourself then that of a writer, then let no one pull you off that path.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You are never as good as they say you are, nor or you as bad as they say you are.
What are you reading now?
The Return by Jim Christina
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m hoping that When The Gods Fell turns out to be my “Lord Of The Rings” work.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a First time author who has self published my very own cook book via reach publishers. I have a great passion for food and cooking and recently I decided to share my passion with the world. For many years I have been compiling and testing recipes so that I could finally bring to you many amazing recipes which are South African Indian Style dishes. Apart from being an Author, I spend most of my days sharing recipes, food tips and tutorial pics on all the major social sites eg. Facebook, twitter, instagram, pinterest etc.
The Pocket 109 cook book is my first book published. There will be more editions to this book. Keep an eye out for these. Happy Cooking!!!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Pocket 109 Cook Book is my first and latest book which is inspired by my late grandmother, who kept steering me to reach my goals year after year without giving up.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many South African Indian Cookbooks have influenced me as I own a few and for all the misleading and annoying stuff that I found in those books which were my personal opinions, I was certainly sure to correct them in the writing of my book, so that my book would be a true South African Indian Style recipe book.

I am currently working on the 2nd and 3rd editions to The Pocket 109 Cook Book, which will be available during 2017 and 2018.

Facebook as I have over a 1000 followers already and my fan page is still growing.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Jennifer “Miz J” Primous is a native of Northern California who made her debut as a published author in 2013! Three books later, she continues to use her writings to Empower and influence effective change in her readers. Although she’s an advocate for Women Issues, her books instigate dialogue for men and women alike! Miz J’s direct and conversational writing styles have help promote her Empowerment Speaking to extend her passions to help rehab relationships and share remedies to sustain nourishing habits.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Released November 2016, “Beware of the Female Dog: The Bark and Bite for Love” is Miz J’s latest in Relationship Advice and Realness!
“If she’s barking or biting, she’s NOT ready for what love can bring. This book will help get a muzzle on those with bad ‘Love Habits’ and assist in training women to prepare themselves for successful companionship and be unleashed in True Love.”
Dissecting the traits of women in relationships. A great “GUIDE” for both Men and Women who are in search for Love.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m an “emotional” writer meaning I use punctuation, ALL CAPS & even ‘text slang’ in my books to express my points. I want the reader to “HEAR” me sharing the book to connect with my readers on a more personal level.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was first inspired to write poetry by Dr. Maya Angelou. As I grew closer to the literary family, I became inspired by a variety of Authors: Inyala Vanzant, Dr. Caroline Leaf, Robert Kiosaki, and some local writers. I connect with authors who style their books as conversations vs. instructional text books.
What are you working on now?
I have written a children’s book series in honor of my son and our NON TRADITIONAL Family. My aim is to help parents and families open up to dialogue about their personal family dynamics to help children cope in our judgmental society.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Because I like to reach my readers on a more personal level, hosting Seminars, Workshops and Book Signings have been the most successful for me, thus far. But the ancient rule of Word-Of-Mouth still stands true!
I’m currently working to have more virtual presence to reach more readers abroad.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
To new authors, I would advise to #1. TRUST YOURSELF! …it’s easy to BELIEVE but to TRUST that you CAN & WILL takes much more FOCUS on SELF & ACCOUNTABILITY.
#2. EMBRACE THE PROCESS. We all have our own customized journey and while your destination may share similar paths , stops and signs as others, it can become detrimental to compare & contrast your gifts /talents to someone else. Your journey is just that: YOURS!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The BEST advice I’ve received was: “Waiting doesn’t mean do nothing”! While on my journey to greater, I thought being patient meant “sit still”. Like most in the world I interpreted “Good things come to those who wait” incorrectly. WAITING means PREPARATION – and so I had to learn that while I’m waiting for the next great thing to happen, I must PREPARE to receive it. If I just SIT and think it’s all gonna happen on it’s own ..then I’ll receive exactly what I put in: NOTHING.
What are you reading now?
I have a habit of LISTENING to MUSIC when I’m writing so, lately I haven’t done much reading. I have a RE-READ list of books I read once before but would like to read again to get a more mature perspective of the book… but I haven’t started… YET lol.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Next, I am going to connect with the public more. I have a new schedule of speaking engagements, my children’s book series and putting my seminars and workshops online.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
a PHONE BOOK to get someone to help me OFF the Island!
Who Shut Off My Brain by Dr. Caroline Leaf to keep my mind focused on the Possibilities
…and a COLORING BOOK for therapy lol
