Kaitelyn Allen Hart

Interview With Author Kaitelyn Allen Hart

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Kaitlynn Allen Hart has published eleven romance novels with several in development. She wrote a series called Royal Persuasions with the first book subtitle being Say Yes to Love. She is currently working on other series and always developing new and inspiring ideas. When working on a new book, it fills her mind with plots, characters, actions, and even the individual words the characters say.
An introvert at heart, Kaitlyn has a doctorate and always reads romance novels, her favorite genre. She used to sit before the fire or curl up in chair and read the night away, lost in the characters. About fifteen years ago, she started writing her own stories and only recently began publishing some of her books.
Get her newsletter and a free book at https://www.kaitlynallenhart.com. and never miss a new release.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is Never Again Until Now. The story was inspired by her first husband, who was in the military and became disabled. We forget the battles our soldiers fight and the wounds they carry for a lifetime. Colonel Christopher Jackson epitomizes her love of the military, caring thoughts for persons overcoming hardships, and the importance of love for individual survival.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always start with the title. Once I have a title, my mind is constantly thinking about plot twists, words the characters might say, and actions they might take. I sometimes dream about them at night and write about them in the morning.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I always was a voracious reader my whole life. One time, I spent the whole summer reading the 100 classics. I have read a wide range of authors, but always keep coming back to romance. My favorite author is Tolstoy. If we have nothing else in life, we need love. Where love starts… is how I feel about life. To me, enough is never enough.

What are you working on now?
Working on a new romance series.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Try to write every day. Don’t limit your ideas or think you must fit into a specific approach. There are all kinds of advice. Some correct and some not correct. Write something you love that inspires you, takes your breath away or makes you cry. But if you want to write, then write and don’t limit yourself.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I don’t know. I am not an advocate of giving advice except don’t limit yourself or your dreams. Be the best you can be and realize some dreams take longer than others to accomplish. I will say writing is a complicated process, but first you should love the story and the characters.

What are you reading now?
I am rereading War and Peace by Tolstoy. I read it once and didn’t understand all of it and swore to myself I would read it again.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I will continue to write my stories. Some I will publish and some I may never publish. I will continue to expand the Kaitlyn Allen Hart brand and keep writing because it soothes my soul and I hope my readers gain joy and inspiration as they read the stories.

Thank you for this interview.

Ronan Farrell

Ronan Farrell

Interview With Author Ronan Farrell

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi,
I'm Ronan Farrell, I was born in Preston, England in 1960. I started my career as a Printing Press engineer before joining the Fire and Rescue Service. Now partially retired, I spent the last eight years of my career as an advanced Fire Investigator, working closely with Police and Forensic scientists. Transferring factual report writing skills for Crown and Coroners Court to my first full novel, A Time to Deceive, was an enjoyable experience and natural progression.

Since retiring I have worked on an ad-hoc basis for a funeral director. This was coincidentally wonderful research for what became my opening chapter. It would be lovely to imply that I was dedicated enough to take the work specifically to research the novel, but that would be another deceit!

I'm married to Sue, we have 3 adult sons and three grandchildren. My current interests include; photography, sailing, walking my dogs (a Labrador and an English springer spaniel), foreign travel and spending time with my family.

I have recently published the sequel to my first novel 'Don't Look To The Stars'

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is 'Don't Look To The Stars'

3 women, 2 loves and a plot 500 years in the making.

A developing catastrophe follows Brad as he fights for what he believes in. On the cusp of calamity, can he survive whilst attempting to hold on to true love.

What are you working on now?
I'm looking for inspiration for a third book in the Wanderer Chronicles. I'd like this novel to cover just one point in history.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stick with it and see the project through. Be prepared to accept honest feedback.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Trust your instincts!

What are you reading now?
History books, looking for inspiration!

What’s next for you as a writer?
Some time off writing and carrying out research for my third novel which I am hoping to start in Autumn 2023.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Apart from my own 🙂 and the next book I will start writing.

Dune – Frank Herbert
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee – Dee Brown
The Hundred and One Dalmations – Dodie Smith
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman

Em McDermott

Em McDermott

Interview With Author Em McDermott

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am the author of two published novels, with a novella coming out very soon! I write dark epic fantasy and fairy tale fantasy. I’m a character writer and I love to put a hero through her paces.

I wanted to be a writer in elementary school, and every day since. Now, I write every day in a cabin in the woods of upstate New York, which I’ve filled with fairy statues and dragon bookends. I adore the privacy of the woods and the gloominess of the Atlantic ocean, and those loves make it into the settings of my novels.

If I could have any pet I wanted, I’d have a dragon. Since I haven’t been able to get ahold of one yet, I have backyard chickens. Each one is named after one of my favorite characters.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, The Woods, is a dark fairy tale retelling of Little Red Riding Hood.

My imagination has always looked to fairy tales, folktales, and myths when it seeks the foundation for a new story. When I sat down to write my latest novel, I was in a new relationship with a partner who came from a different world than me. We are different colors, different ages, and had very different early life experiences. A lot of my friends didn't get us. It was thoughts of this divide floating around in my head that provided the first seeds of The Woods, which explores love that crosses boundaries. I'm happy to say my partner and I are still together…as for The Woods, I won't give away the ending. 😉

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes! I can’t type without wearing fingerless gloves. Though I started wearing them years ago for comfort, now it’s become a ritual. I have a special set that I wear when I’m diving into a first draft and need to be at my most creative.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
One of my biggest influences as a teenage girl was Anne McCaffrey’s Pern series. Like so many teenagers, I had a tough time in those years, and McCaffrey’s books transported me to a world full of heroes, dragons, and the deep bonds between them. She’s remained an inspiration ever since.

As a writer, I was also heavily influenced by Steven Pressfield’s book, The War of Art. It’s all about overcoming procrastination and sitting down to Do The Work of actually writing (rather than just talking and dreaming about writing). It was a game-changer for me.

What are you working on now?
I have moved away from fairy tale fantasy for the moment, and am working on Book 1 of an epic fantasy trilogy. It is so fun to build such a complex story with multiple viewpoints, cultures, and huge stakes. I won’t say much about it yet, but I’ll tell you that it draws from selkie mythology to tell the story of a mother who seeks her lost daughter as the world ends around her.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
You have to define what success is for yourself. We all want to be successful, right? But what does that mean to you? Without an answer to that and concrete strategies to get you to your goals, you’re unlikely to stumble onto it.

That said, my other piece of advice is: Don’t listen to anyone who tells you you can’t do it. You can.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Allow me to get woo-woo for a second. The best advice I’ve ever heard comes from Eckhart Tolle, the spiritual teacher and author. Live in the now. Your whole life is lived there—in the present moment. This is the only moment where you can take action to bring yourself closer the life you want. Don’t waste it.

The less woo-woo version of this great teaching? Don’t spend so much time fantasizing about the awards you’ll win that you waste time that could be spent writing the books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing a novel is like juggling. The more balls in the air, the harder it is to balance them all. As a baby writer, just writing a whole book that made actual sense was really hard! Now, I’m ready to scale up. Epic fantasy trilogy, here I come!

Bentley Turner

Interview With Author Bentley Turner

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
So far, I have written four books of fiction: "The File on Thomas Marks," "The Prize Winners and Other Stories," "A Killing in Oklahoma," and "The Agency," which is supposed to be out November 15, 2022.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
"The Agency" is a thriller about a CIA agent who becomes head of a small department that investigates UFOs. The inspiration for the novel came from my research about UFOs many years ago.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I try to write or edit something almost every day. Is this unusual? Maybe, maybe not. However, I enjoy it. I even enjoy doing research, which, I guess, many writers do not.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many years ago I read novels by Donald Hamilton, John D. MacDonald, James M. Cain, John O'Hara, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Erskine Caldwell, and numerous others. I appreciate the styles of a few of these writers. Whether I have been influenced by any, well, probably so, but I don't necessarily want to name names because, to be perfectly honest, I don't know.

What are you working on now?
I'm working on a mystery tentatively titled "The Taking of the First Lady," which, you guessed it, is about a group of kidnappers who take the First Lady from a friend's private yacht.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use several–from my own to blogs produced by various individuals. I use major sites such as Awesome Gang, Goodreads, Amazon's Author's Page, and several others. I use various groups on Facebook. In short, I try to learn more about social media and how it can be used with each published work.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I know this sounds trite, but my advice is "never give up." If an agent or publisher turns you down, contact another. My first novel, for instance, was turned down by numerous publishers. Then a small publisher offered a contract, which I accepted. Before the novel was published, however, the publisher went out of business. I had to find another publisher. Eventually, I did, and the novel was published.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write about what you know, which, today, could be about almost anything–that is, if one is willing to invest the time to learn about what s/he doesn't know.

What are you reading now?
I just finished "Elevator Pitch" by Linwood Barclay. I am reading three or four books of nonfiction.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing and editing "The Taking of the First Lady," which I mentioned above.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
"Holy Bible," at least one book about what to eat when stranded on a desert island, and at least one book about how to build a boat.

S. Alston

S. Alston

Interview With Author S. Alston

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! I am a wife and mother of 3 young adults, and I have always loved children's poetry.
My mission is to write poems and books that are not only fun to read, but they empower young minds and let children know they have control of their thoughts, feelings, and actions. I currently have 2 children's picture books published and will have 5 more coming in the next couple of months.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I AM Mighty Me is the first in a new series of books that will help toddlers learn they are mighty and strong within. Over the years as my children have grown, I have seen so many wonderful kids who are utterly stressed out and overly anxious about the troubles they face in everyday life. They seem to take everything so seriously and have lost a bit of the joy of learning and the joy of being young. So, through my poems and books, I want to inspire young children and give them the words that help them self-soothe, so they know that mistakes are a necessary part of life! It's how we learn and grow! And that being kind to yourself, using your imagination, and tapping into your inner wisdom are all ways they can feel empowered and grow up feeling good about themselves.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I meditate every morning and evening for about 20-40 minutes, and I always have a notepad by my side. I usually get inspired afterward and will write down whatever my thoughts are in that moment. Then I'll come back to the notepad later in the day or the next day and write some more. It's how I've written all my books.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dr. Seuss and Barbara Park are my two all-time favorite children's authors. I must have every one of each of their books which we read countless times over and over to my children went they were young. I could never get enough of reading the different voices of Junie B. Jones series and the rhythmic rhymes of Dr. Suess were often what lulled my kids to sleep during those preschool years.

What are you working on now?
I have several books that I have finished that are currently being illustrated that I'm very excited about.

The Night Before Christmas – Will Santa Know That We've Moved? is a modern twist on the classic Christmas poem we all know and love that shares the true meaning of Christmas with children of all ages.

My Mighty Imagination (Mighty Me Series Book #2) helps preschoolers realize the power of their minds by using their imagination. With so many young children being overstimulated by constant technology and activities throughout the day, I want to help parents introduce chill-time where kids learn that boredom is actually fun! It's a time you can rest, relax, and practice cultivating our creative centers.

The Greatest Lesson is a Fable for 4th graders and teaches children that true happiness comes from within.

Imagine IF… – Is a picture book that will be done in 2 versions, one for boys and one for girls and it will inspire kids to imagine what they want to be when they grow up.

And Then There Was You, A Giftable Keepsake Book For the 2nd Born, will also be done in big brother and big sister versions. It's meant to be read to baby with big brother or sister in earshot so they too can learn that there is enough love to go around for everyone in the family.

I also just published another book for toddlers called Hello, a Fun-Loving Guide to Greetings which is a book of opposites and has friendly animals and their tracks so children can compare to their hand prints! It gives them words to practice so many different ways to say hello which builds self-confidence.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
They are available on Amazon as ebooks and paperback and some of them will be available on Audible and hardcover. But honestly, I'm brand new at this, so I've just been reaching out to local bookstores and preschool teachers on Instagram to let them know about my books. Whenever anyone reads them, they LOVE them, so it's just a matter of getting the word out, which maybe you can give me some pointers! LOL

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write from your heart. Decide on your intention for the book and then go from there. Write when you are feeling good and feel clear-minded and the words will flow.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Good ideas flow when you are feeling good. So why don't you practice feeling good? Don't let other people or situations be the excuse you give yourself to feel bad or be angry, because when you do that you are giving away your power. In every situation, there is an opportunity for clarity and growth, and that is an incredible gift. So be thankful as often as you can because that's a direct path to feeling good.

What are you reading now?
I love reading self-help books, so I just finished Atomic Habits, Limitless, Building a Story Brand, and my other faves are anything by Dr. Joe Dispenza, spiritual books like Untethered Soul, all of the Secret books by Rhonda Burne, and I'm also obsessed with listening to Abraham Hicks meditations on youtube if that counts.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My real name is Sheila Alston not just S. Alston. 🙂 And the reason I'm using a pen name for my children's books is because I've already got a whole brand around healthy living that my real name is associated with. And I was told it's good practice to keep the genres separate so it's not confusing, and so I have several non-fiction books in the works too that are all about a growing trend in real estate development called wellness real estate and also how to create a healthier home environment. So as a writer, the goal of all of it is to simply, help others be their best selves and create an environment around them that is more supportive of well-being.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That's a great question! Can I take my audible or kindle? I suppose if I'm stranded, then there are no charging stations so I'd be limited to physical books. So in that case, I would bring the latest book by Dr. Joe Dispenza, Becoming Super Natural. It teaches you to slow your brainwaves down and tap into your creative mind; it's incredible. And then I think I would have to bring some sort of survives guidebook, but since I don't read those I'm open for suggestions! And then there is an amazing new book I just read from a marriage counselor who is an indie author, it's about the differences in how men and women think and the 9 mistakes women most often make that are misinterpreted by the men in their lives. I've been married 27 years and had to laugh since I've been making all 9 on the regular! It's a miracle that we've been married this long! But this book gave me such insight to why there is conflict in our communication and simple steps to resolve them. So I'd have to take that book too so that if I ever got of the island I would be able to best communicate with others! It's called How to Talk to a Man and Feel Heard by Sue Shepard.

Ashley Brandt

Ashley Brandt

Interview With Author Ashley Brandt

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born and raised in Southern California. My husband and I relocated to North Texas ten years ago, and we have two young sons. I have been an avid reader and writer since I was a child, and Literature was always my favorite subject. One of my favorite places to go is the bookstore, and my favorite drink is coffee. I am a Licensed Paramedic and I have worked in healthcare for about eight years. I love my career and find the people that I serve inspiring. I have self-published and traditionally published a total of five books, and I am currently working on a sixth.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent novel, titled Coyote, is inspired by a centuries-old Navajo legend. I came across the legend of Ma'ii, otherwise known as "Coyote Man", while doing research for another book. I was fascinated by the culture and the story behind the paranormal entity and decided to create a modern tale around it, integrating romance, mystery and suspense.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I begin a story that I am passionate about, I tend to hyper fixate on it. I am always dreaming up new plot twists and characters, and sometimes I have to stop whatever I am doing to add it to my story!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My first love was Mary Higgins. (They call her the Queen of Suspense for a reason.) I absolutely adore anything written by Charlaine Harris, and I tend to reread her books (yes, I have all of them).

What are you working on now?
I am working on a story idea that I have had for a few years but never pursued. The main character is a seventeen-year old girl, and there will be plenty of action and larger-than-life ability to read about in this one!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As an emerging author I am constantly learning and developing my craft. I have found that websites such as Awesome Gang, and similar newsletters, are effective in promoting my work to potential readers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I used to believe that writing was as simply and straightforward as picking up a pen- it's not! The creative part of it is only the beginning. The world can't enjoy your stories if they've never heard of you, and exposure is everything. Having said that, any time you put yourself out there you are vulnerable to feedback, both positive and negative. My advice is to keep going. Listen to your friends and family as they encourage you to pursue your dream. Learn from the feedback and never stop growing as a writer. Don't measure your own talent and success against anyone else's, we all travel different paths at different times.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My mother used to say, "You teach other people how to treat you". As an adult, I have found her advice to be accurate and very useful. What we tolerate is what we receive.

What are you reading now?
I have about five different books that I am working on! Don't judge me!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I intend to continue writing and publishing my stories. My dream is to become a best-selling author, but I am okay with baby-steps!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring my four favorite books in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. No matter how many times I reread her work, I'm never bored.

Barbara Sontheimer

Interview With Author Barbara Sontheimer

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My debut novel, Victor's Blessing is launching November, 15 2022.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Victor's Blessing.
I have always been fascinated by the Civil War and the idea of brother against brother.
I also wanted to tell a story more from the North's perspective.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I literally write in a closet with no windows. The folding chairs and vacuum and I are good friends!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Maeve Binchy, Emily Bronte, Anita Shreve, David Guterson, Charles Frazier

What are you working on now?
A three part series starting in 1781 with a boat of eligible females that land in Biloxi Mississippi from France as prospective brides.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am not sure. All I know is that the research and writing are the EASY part! There are a lot of titles released every single week, and even if you have a STELLAR story it still may be lost among the mayhem.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I am still new myself and learning something everyday.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
What other people think of you is none of your business.

What are you reading now?
Forces, and novel by a friend of mine.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing because truly it is a labor of love.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Wuthering Heights
Snow falling on Cedars
The Shell Seekers

Peter Fuller

Peter Fuller

Interview With Author Peter Fuller

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I used to make medieval armor for a living, but an unsuccessful shoulder surgery ended that career. I've always enjoyed writing, and I took several writing courses in college, so I decided to try writing as a second career (I still have bills to pay). I wrote an adventure novel way back in 1999, but I started writing in earnest with my current series in 2015. So far, I've published three novels of a six novel series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Solar Warden Book Three – Genesis. The series was inspired when I was watching a television show called "Hangar 1 – The UFO Files." The episode was about the secret space program, and as I watched, I thought , "That would make a great story." So I began writing.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I do like to play calm instrumental music when I write. I find it helps with the creative process. I do have this annoying habit of lying down to sleep at night, when a flood of ideas hit me and I have to get up to write them down. I think it has to do with blood rushing to my head while in a supine position.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I like Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy, Ward Carrol, Fred Saberhagen, Robert E. Howard, Edgar Rice Burrows, C. S. Lewis, and J. R. R. Tolkien.

What are you working on now?
Solar Warden Book Four – Skinwalker.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesome Gang, of course!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don't be intimidated by established authors. They were once where you are now, and with hard work and dedication, one day you will be where they are now.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My dad always told me any job worth doing is worth doing properly. Don't scrimp, cut corners, or do a rush job.

What are you reading now?
I haven't had much time recently to do much reading. My wife has been recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, so I've been spending most of my time caring for her. When I do find some time to read, I want to check out an author named Ian Conner of Black Raptor Books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
When I finish my current series, I've already started plotting out an historical novel about a 12th century English knight fighting Moors in Sicily. He captures an Arab princess and decides to return her to her father, the Caliph of Bagdad. With 40 years of studying the medieval period, 8 years of working in a major museum with their arms and armor collection, not to mention 25 years of researching, making, and fighting in medieval armor, I think I can get it right.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1 – The Bible
2 – The Lord of the Rings
3 – Lectures to My Students (C. H. Spurgeon)
4 – The Complete Works of William Shakespeare
