Robert A. Lane

Interview With Author Robert A. Lane

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a corporate performance coach and stress management facilitator. I work with enterprising career professionals, helping them achieve joy and empowerment at their job while reaching true personal freedom by eliminating stress, overwhelm, and burnout.
I am also a motivational speaker and do presentations and speaking engagements for businesses and corporations all over the United States. Lights, Action, YOU! is my first published book. I have written three poetry books but have not had them published yet.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is called Lights, Action, YOU!: The Guide to Master Your Mindset, Overcome Work Stress, and Regain Your Personal Freedom. I share some of my best stories from working 30+ years in the entertainment industry and with each story I tie in valuable life lessons and techniques from my coaching program The Mindset Method.

I’ve been asked several times to write my memoirs about my entertainment world experiences so instead of just a book of memoirs, this gave me the opportunity to teach valuable tools that anyone could use to live a healthier productive life both at work and in their personal lives.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I first started writing, I was the night owl. I was writing poetry at that time and felt most inspired at 2am in the morning. However, when I wrote Lights, Action, YOU!, I was a much more disciplined writer and allocated non-negotiable writing time for the book.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
It’s funny because the first book that came to mind was a book I bought when I was in sixth grade called The Gizmo From Outer Space. Not sure if it was an influence but maybe that was the spark to inspire me to write.

Two other books that were influential were The 10 Distinctions Between Millionaires and the Middle Class and Wooden on Leadership.

What are you working on now?
Since I just wrote Lights, Action, YOU! I haven’t started the next book yet. However, I spent many years in the music industry as well so I may write a follow up book sharing those experiences and still tie my coaching program lessons into the stories.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Grassroots marketing is always a priority. Promotion sites, like Awesome Gang, Book Kitty, Buck Books, James Mayfield, Books Butterfly, Bargain Booksy, Booksends, Book Bub, ENT…there are many that are good.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Probably the best advice is discipline. As with anything creative, it’s easy to get distracted. Be disciplined and consistent. You don’t want to be that author who has been writing your book for 15 years with no end in sight.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stick to your designated time you allocated for yourself to work on your book and have a support system of other authors, friends or coaches to lean on.

What are you reading now?
Own Your Dance by Telma Sanchez. She’s is an author friend of mine and just released her new book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I may actually go back to those poetry books I wrote and see if I can freshen them up for publication.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Beatles
NASM Essentials of Personal Fitness Training
The Success Principles
Robotech (The entire 21 book series)

P.S. Winn

Interview With Author P.S. Winn

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I began writing in 2013, as I finish the tenth year, I am excited to say the seventieth book should be published in October. I write in several genres and for all ages, from preschool, to adult and even a couple of adult humor books, about the dreaded golden years. I feel books are a great way to connect the reader’s mind with the authors. No book is happy, until t is read and loved by others.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book, due out in October, is entitled “The Vale”. An adventurer learns of a town that vanished, not hundreds of years ago, but only thirty. Cade has to know more and heads to a town close to the one that disappeared. It is in the Vale, that Cade finds more than he bargained for. The book examines thoughts of, if you could change history, would you? As the world becomes more and more unstable, I have pondered that question. I love reading about and watching shows about those who head into adventure, despite dangers.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write long hand, then type the novels. I edit on my computer, but have to order a paperback of my book to do a final edit. Holding my own book in my hands, makes that possible and works better for me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love classic authors, like Dickens, Steinbeck and Verne. I like reading King and Koontz, but as an independent author, I also read fellow writers books and am always amazed by the talent that surrounds us all.

What are you working on now?
After 70 books in 10 years, I am thinking of taking a break, but who knows? Crazy minds cannot stay idle, and I have several ideas floating in this strange mind of mine. I love to write about parallel worlds. I am fascinated by hypnosis, supernatural and angels, so those topics are lurking in the corners and waiting to be turned into tales.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use Facebook, Twitter and Linked in mostly for promotion. I have found fellow authors and return readers are amazing to share the books and spread the word. I am so grateful for that.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I could write a book about that. Mostly, I say write about what fascinates you. The love a writer has for a topic becomes the love a reader will also have.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up on doing what you love.

What are you reading now?
I am reading some books by Linda Watkins, Stephen King and Dean Koontz. I also have finished a few by Berkeley Rourke, John Dizon, Eva Pasco, Phyllis McManus and Carol Ann Kauffman, but have read books by hundreds of authors. I am a top reviewer on Goodreads.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Just continuing the journey.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A blank notebook, a dictionary and the bible. The first to write a book of my own, the second to look up interesting words, and the third to keep me occupied.

Rowella Michaels

Interview With Author Rowella Michaels

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an accountant who has been in love with reading fiction books for as long as I can remember. Reading the great works of my favorite authors inspired me to create ones as well. It enabled me to give life to my imagination through writing. I have written some books under different pen names, most of which under the genre of romance and fantasy.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest work is Blood of Immortals. It is the first book in The Romance of Gods and Demons Series. My inspiration came from a friend of mine who had undergone a heartbreak. She was cheated by her boyfriend. She went through depression but through the help of her friends and family, she was able to recover. Later on, he wanted to reconcile with her. He gave a lot of explanation but she was having none of it. She loves herself now more than ever. She said that he already got his chance and he wasted it. He was never getting another one.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have any unusual writing habits.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think one of the books that have great impact on me was The Lonely God. It was really well written and I could feel the emotions behind the characters. It is a great book!

What are you working on now?
I am working on the Heart of Immortals, the second book of The Romance of Gods and Demons series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I think Awesome Gang is one of the best website to promote my books. It gives me and my books a lot of exposure to a huge audience. It is definitely an awesome platform!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just like you, I am still at the beginning of my career, so my advise for you is also for myself. Just keep the passion burning. Give your best shot in whatever you’re working on. Your hard work will eventually pay off.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do not let fear defeat you.

Before I started this journey, I had lots of doubts in my mind. What if no one reads my work? What if they don’t like it? What if? A lot of what ifs. Then one time, I shared these fears to my friends. I was already an accountant by then. One of them said, if this is what your heart really desires, don’t let fear defeat you. You will never know what will happen unless you try it, So, I did and now I am here.

What are you reading now?
I am reading Catching Genesis. It is about a wolf rejected by her mate. It turns out she was destined for someone else. It’s a good one!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I wanted to finish the series of books. There will be four books in total.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I want to bring the Body Double, The Bastard Princess, The Girl He Never Noticed and Bait. They are from different genre but they are all good. I wouldn’t definitely be bored in the island.

Kit Campbell

Interview With Author Kit Campbell

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi! I’m Kit Campbell, and I don’t take myself terribly seriously. I’ve written many, many, many books, but I have four published, as well as two short story collection. I primarily write fantasy and science fiction, though I’ve found myself straying more toward horror as a trauma response from the last two years.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Hallowed Hill (Oct 2022), which is Gothic horror. It was inspired by a trip I took to eastern Canada in 2013, where we stopped in a town I no longer remember the name of. (Sorry, Canada! And also that town.) The highest point in town was Gallow’s Hill, so my spouse and I took the opportunity to climb it. It was an overcast, gray day, and when we got to the top, we found an elementary school immediately next to a graveyard. The atmosphere was perfect, and I said to myself that it was the perfect setting for a horror novel. And, well, I finally got around to writing it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not especially. I find I don’t really get much done if I have to go through any elaborate rituals, not since I had kids. Got to work when you can, where you can. I do like to write to music (doesn’t matter if it has lyrics or not, as long as it’s thematically appropriate) but I don’t have to.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Sword of Shannara, by Terry Brooks, is what got me into fantasy. I found it as a kid in elementary school, and it was like a whole new world opened up for me. I’ve read most of your classic “doorstop” fantasy series at this point, but Shannara still has a special place in my heart.

What are you working on now?
Well, Hallowed Hill is coming out tomorrow, so I’m mostly doing promotion and marketing. (And quietly panicking.)

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m trying some new things this time around! Genre-specific websites and reviewers, as well as broader book promotion newsletters. Traditionally I’ve used Goodreads for ads and a giveaway, though they’ve raised the price and it’s a bit out of my reach, for now. Word of mouth is always good. I also go to a local scifi/fantasy/horror literature convention every year.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write, and finish drafts! All practice is good, and you can’t really see the shape of something until that something has a shape, if you know what I mean. Like any other skill, writing can be learned and honed with time, patience, and practice.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t sweat the petty things, and don’t pet the sweaty things.

What are you reading now?
I just finished A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine, and I’m starting Recursion by Blake Crouch. I try not to read the genre I’m working on, because it messes with my own voice.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Revision for me! I’ve got a high fantasy trilogy I’ve been working on since I was a teenager, and I think the first book is FINALLY about ready. Goal is to get that done by the end of the year. And then that’ll need to be submitted, and I have a scifi horror novella and a paranormal cozy mystery (under a penname) to revise while I do that.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmm. Do you take big books, that take forever to get through? Your favorites that you don’t mind living in? A combination? I guess I’d bring my favorites–The Phantom Tollbooth, Pride and Prejudice, and Howl’s Moving Castle–and hopefully some paper, to write fanfic off of them or something.

Roaleey Ryan

Interview With Author Roaleey Ryan

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hey…I’m Roaleey Ryan from Mumbai (India). A mainstream Bollywood actress and now a Self-published Author. Honestly, I have written a million books which never saw past the first chapter, but finally, I pursued it diligently during the lockdown.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A Hot Mess #af is my debut novel. I started writing this book on Wattpad during the lockdown and it gained some eyeballs. That’s when I decided to pull it from there and complete the book.
Romance inspires my writing.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love listening to music or have a glass of wine when I have writers block. Which is quite often.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Growing up- The famous five, Nancy Drew and sometimes RL Stine.
Pre teenage years- Sweet Valley
Teenage years & counting- Mills and Boon. Jackie Collins. Sidney Sheldon.

What are you working on now?
After I finish the herculean task of marketing, I hope to get down to start A Hot Mess sequel. And also finish my novel Windy and Luke.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still learning. Still in the process of finding out what works and what doesn’t. I’m too raw and new in this field to be mentioning someone or something a 100%.
But, having all your socials up and running is something one cannot avoid.
I heart booktok is a major thing now. Unfortunately, India has banned TikTok. SO, there goes my booktok.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
One new author to the other- Keep writing. And after you complete your book, promote the hell out of it. I haven’t left my corner since the day my book released. I know it sounds daunting and I was petrified before I hit the Live button, BUT let me tell you something, the day my book released I made it to Amazon Bestseller #4 in Contemporary fiction, #23 in Women’s Contemporary romance, and #29 in Romance.
So, if this could happen for me. I know it will happen for you.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Hard work always pays off.

What are you reading now?
Google and multiple author blogs.

What’s next for you as a writer?
A Hot Mess (Sequel)
Windy and Luke

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Fifty shades of Grey trilogy.

Malienna E

Interview With Author Malienna E

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As someone who hasn’t even reached 18 years old yet, I am working hard to be someone’s favorite author. I want to write many books that people can enjoy. Despite my age, I want people to listen to my words and watch the stories I create as they unfold. My first book was “A Race Against Time”. This book is from my first series “A Lost Soul”. I am currently writing 3 more books. One of which is the second book in the series. Another one is a backstory to one of the characters from the “A Lost Soul” series. Finally, the third one is a separate Novel. If you are reading this, I hope you will give them a try and see if I meet your expectations or surpass them. I might even become your favorite author.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is “A Race Against Time” from the “A Lost Soul” series. Since I am a new author this book also happens to be my first, although far from my last. This book was inspired by a school essay I wrote. Yet, I felt too connected to the story to let myself end it there. So, I made it into a book and turned it into one of the most important things to me. This book then turned into a series with a much bigger world than I first imagined.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I would say that some of my unusual writing habits are writing things out of sequence and adding jokes to my notes. When I create outlines for my books I write them down almost exactly how they form in my head. This way it’s easier for me to understand, but if someone else were to read them I doubt they’d even understand what the first sentence means. My thoughts are a bit chaotic so to speak, but that’s what I feel the most comfortable with.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite author as a little kid was W. Bruce Cameron. I read a lot and enjoyed the way it felt to travel to different worlds. I also read and still do read an unhealthy amount of manga, webtoons, etc. Those are some of the different stories, books, or people that have influenced me the most.

What are you working on now?
As I stated earlier, I am currently working on 3 books. 2 of them are a part of the “A Lost Soul” series. One is the 2nd book of the series and the other one is a backstory of one of the characters. The other book is a separate Novel. The backstory or prequel book and the separate novel story will most likely be released in 2023.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method would be social media, word of mouth, and promotions. I am currently still a new author, so I am still learning and growing in many ways. I haven’t learned anywhere near enough yet.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Consistency and self-love should be your best friends. Learn and keep a nice and healthy pace to grow and write at. Take care of your mind and body because you won’t go far if you destroy yourself in the process. That’s my advice for people who are looking to be authors. Yet, even if you are not looking to be an author this applies to many things. Keep a steady pace, move forward, and take care of yourself.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I have heard lots of good quotes and advice that stuck with me. 1 of the most useful quotes is this. “Take an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year, but don’t let it take your life.” If you are tired and overworked or if you feel drained, take the time you feel like you need to heal and recuperate yourself. It’s ok to take breaks. Though after that, move forward. Accomplish what you made up your mind to do.

What are you reading now?
Some of the books I am reading now are “The Wicked King” by colleen hoover and “The Great Controversy”. Those are just 2 of the many, but I am reading the first 1 out of curiosity and the second 1 for insight I guess. I am also reading “The Untethered Soul” and “Dying for a living”.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Creating my audience and fandom. I want to have people who genuinely enjoy and look forward to my next work. I enjoy reading theories and ideas on what might happen next in my books. They are interesting and fun. I want to meet and see more people who will become fans of what I create.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring something extremely long because I do not want to be bored. Yet, I still want to finish the books I started. I think my choices would be “The Begining After the End”, “Unordinary”, “Omniecint Reader”, and “Wind Breaker”. I absolutely can’t leave those.

Hannah Chamberlain

Interview With Author Hannah Chamberlain

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve always told stories, in mental health. I’ve written articles, chapters in books, made films and written scripts. Just this year I published my first solo book, Good Mental Health is an Art, and I’m getting a really great reception for it. It’s fantastic to hold a book you have written in your hand and I can’t get over signing it for people.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Good Mental Health is an Art was prompted by the realisation that there are so many definitions of bad mental health but not so many of what is good mental health. It feels like getting to good mental health is just a massive to do list – exercise, sleep, food, good habits, you know. I wanted to create a sentence that inspired people and was easy to remember.
Here it is: Good mental health is an art, built on the habit of catching and appreciating very ordinary little moments.
The book takes that sentence and breaks it down phrase by phrase. If good mental health is an art, that makes you an artist. That’s a nicer label than other labels you might have been given. Time to be nice to yourself and kind to your inner artist.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wrote my book in my caravan, which was a lovely place to be. I love writing in bed. I love writing on trains and buses. I love sticking my headphones on and getting on with it. It takes me to a very special place. I don’t like being at a desk, I like finding a nook.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love The Outrun by Amy Liptrott and Wintering by Katherine May. I love writing where I feel the personality of the author, and I love people who can weave their lives into meaning.

What are you working on now?
I’m turning 50 in December. I’m working on a book – The 9 Year – about giving yourself permission to make the most of your decade.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love instagram. And engaging in conversation. Awesome Gang is great too!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep at it, find your voice, keep believing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Give up. It spurred me on. Horrible to hear, and I hated it. It made me realise how much I need to write though.

What are you reading now?
H is for Hawk. Late to the party there.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Opening up new possibilities I hope.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d really like an excuse to sit and read the Complete Works of Chaucer. And there would have to be some Philip Larkin in there – Shakespeare of course – and Virginia Woolf’s diaries. If I’m stuck on an island I want some meaty reads.

Michael Neel

Interview With Author Michael Neel

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am someone who was enjoyed writing since middle school. I had a habit of starting a new story with every single new idea that came to my head. After years of starting, I finally am finishing stories and focusing on specific ones. I currently have 1 novella, and 3 novels finished, with several more in the works.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest published book is A Warlock’s Lament. It was inspired in part by playing things such as World of Warcraft and Dungeons & Dragons, and in part by the thought of what people would be willing to do to save a loved one from a fate worse than death.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not to me. To others, who knows? I have trouble writing in silence or with TV’s on and prefer music. I tend to write in quick bursts, sitting down and knocking out as much as possible in 30-60 minute chunks before doing something else for a little bit as a break.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many. Brandon Sanderson, George RR Martin, Will Wight, Guy Gavriel Kay, John Bierce, Becky Chambers, Martha Wells, and so many more depending on what I am reading that week.

What are you working on now?
A story loosely based on an alternate earth with vampires, magic dictated by inscribed Runes, and a dead god, vying for vengeance against the two sibling gods who imprisoned her.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have no idea. I am new to the promotion game. If you know of any good ones, let me know!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read and write. Read and write. Read and write. Read, for enjoyment and to discern what you like in writing. More importantly, read to understand what you do not like. Write, because it takes practice. The more you write, the better you will get.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write it. You can write something, dislike it, and fix it. But if you don’t write it at all, you’ll never know if it was good.

What are you reading now?
Lots and lots of fantasy. I am trying to read small, indie authors as much as possible.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write more, determine which series to focus on getting the second one out on first.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Way of Kings
The Hobbit
A Storm of Swords
Physician’s Desk Reference. Hollowed out. Inside, waterproof matches, iodine tablets. Beet seeds, protein bars, NASA blanket.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my debut book is El: What is evil in a world that is all good?
I started writing it when I was 14 years old and it has been a journey getting here – self-publishing it today at 23. I was eager to read a good fantasy book with fleshed-out characters, captivating plotlines – everything I liked about a book… I figured I hadn’t yet read one quite like that, so I decided to write my own and put my spin on my favorite tropes!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My unusual writing habits include drawing everything I can think of about my book – I’ve painted concept art, drawn the faces of my characters, realized outfits and made animations! And I will continue to do so because I have a lot of fun with creating!

What are you working on now?
A new book. A book I’m not willing to share anything about… yet!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing! You’ve got this!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Rest. Make sure you rest.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Not to be cheeky, but I’d definitely bring my own book – as I said, I wrote the book with this thing in mind! A fantasy book I’d enjoy reading and rereading is something I strived for and I got it! Lord of the Rings would be a close second, though 😀

Phil Olson

Interview With Author Phil Olson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve ran a Guitar Instruction Studio for almost 20 years. Over the past year and a half I’ve written and released a 4 volume guitar instructional series called: The Awesome Guitar Series. This series is unique in that it teaches chordal and scale theory as one organic whole on the neck. Most instructional books that teach theory teach these as separate from each other. By teaching them as ONE new insights are brought forth that would otherwise be missed.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Awesome Guitar Series – Volume IV: A Complete Method for the Guitar – Concluding the Study of Major/Minor Shapes & Patterns

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I know of….

What authors, or books have influenced you?
in respect to the Guitar: Julio S. Sagreras Guitar Lessons: Books 1-3 (English and Spanish Edition) , Ted Greene’s — Chord Chemistry, Frank Gambale’s – Speed Picking, Pat Metheny Guitar Etudes – Warmup Exercises For Guitar

What are you working on now?
I’m in the process of putting together Volumes V and VI of the Series. These books take simple Major and Minor chord shapes as the foundation to create more complicated chord structures.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The main place I work to drive traffic to is Amazon.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stay committed to consistently writing daily.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Talent comes from commitment

What are you reading now?
The Seven Figure Agency Roadmap: How to Build a Million Dollar Digital Marketing Agency

Steve Heiman

Interview With Author Steve Heiman

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been an avid reader of fiction since I was a young child. I explored creative writing in college but diverged into theater arts instead. After a long career as a graphic designer I was given the opportunity during the early days of COVID to begin writing again.
My inspiration and writing style draws from diverse influences such as Shakespeare, Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Robbins, Asimov, Clarke, and Niven and most of the greats of sci fi. Also fantasy, from Tolkien and Le Guin and C.S. Lewis, and from classics such as Steinbeck and Hemmingway.

I write science fiction and fantasy. I’m sure my creative process is unusual. For me, the creative process is part discovery and part my reflections of our current times and culture. Most can agree we could do a better job of protecting our children, elderly and at-risk members of society But the most pressing issue of our times is protecting the global biosphere.

We are at a juncture. COVID has forced us to take a hard look at the global systems our society functions on, and the results have not been great. There is much work to be done.
But we are also making incredible strides in the realms of science. There is a great reexamination of the fundamental forces of nature we exist within. Many of those new revelations worked their way into the second book. My books focus on the interactive nature of our reality and speculate on the benefits of collectivism.

I love a good escapist story. But I also like to be moved, compelled, and intellectually invigorated. COVID was in full swing when I began my first book, Greetings, Planet Earth!, and the world was in a state of depression. But as often happens in times of crisis, humans sought for a positive slant to it all; the global nature of COVID opened the doors to a collective experience that brought communities and countries closer together, and forced us to examine the underpinnings of society. With danger comes opportunity.
As an artist I want to uplift and inspire but still ask the big questions, such as what are our global goals? What priorities do we have as a species? How can we work together to overcome the negative aspects of modern life? But it’s not my place to preach to people, so I chose a light comedic medium to address these important topics.
Help, I Lost My Planet! is still a ridiculous and zany space adventure. I hope my books offer both comic relief, and a bigger, more optimistic and caring vision for our future.

My second book is still a happy and hopeful story, but addresses our cultural malaise a bit more directly. It was started about a year into COVID, and there was a certain amount of depression that we all existed with that was the new norm. As any good therapist will tell you, issues are resolved when you finally face them head on, not run from them. Help, I Lost My Planet is still a ridiculous and zany space adventure. But I hope that my allusions to our actual problems here on planet Earth offers both comic relief, and a bigger, more optimistic and caring vision for our future.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Help, I Lost My Planet!

It is the sequel to my first book. The inspiration was to prove to myself that having written one book I had a process I could repeat. So, mission accomplished!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Oh yes! I spent so many years as a visual artists where I constantly had to ‘massage’ my work in an ongoing process that I now take the same approach with writing. Each sentence must be molded and sculpted to sound just right and tell the story easily.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many. In sci fi, Asimov, Clarke, Herbert, Niven, Simak, Farmer… In fantasy Tolkien, Burroughs, Howard, and Moorcock and of course Le Guin. Lewis as well. And in lit, Robbins by far the biggest influence. I would be insane not to mention Vonnegut also.

What are you working on now?
The Source of all Magic is my current WIP. It is also a bit of a genre buster, mixing a magical fantasy and science fiction storyline in a future earth. In this alternate reality there was an inexplicable in 1983 where about a quarter of the earths population is suddenly gifted with a variety of magical abilities. The story takes place two-hundred years later, in a purported utopia that is actually anything but.

The protagonist is a 15 year old boy on the cusp of deciding which magical ability he will have the the rest of his life. He and his troop of friends discover that the world is not what it seems and that The Trust, the governing body in the world, is fabricated on a lie.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That I am still figuring out. Awesome Gang?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Trust yourself, and keep going. You don’t have to do what others do. If you need a process or structure, sure, try some systems. But do not let it constrain you. Writing is a creative process, let it be your own!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just be nice.

What are you reading now?
The Silmarillion

What’s next for you as a writer?
Getting my third book complete. It is a new cast of characters.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I hate these questions lol. OK
skinny legs and all
slaughterhouse five
Macroscope

Joseph Hagen

Interview With Author Joseph Hagen

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have three novels available, MOONRISE, WOLF HUNT, DARK REQUIEM, and a book of short stories, REASONS TO LEAVE A LIGHT ON

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
DARK REQUIEM – I and a co-writer wrote this story of vampire nuns. My co-author and my wife were involved at a local girl’s high school before it closed. We used the building in the story triggered by an incident while working in the basement of the school. Someone noted a collection of trunks in one of the rooms. One of the people stated that the older nuns were kept in the trunks. It is the first in a trilogy. DARKER HUNTS is awaiting a cover. DARKEST VENGEANCE is with out beta readers.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Only in that I don’t. I’ve written during my lunch hour at my desk, on loading docks, librarys, parks, and even in a mall. Once I focus in on my writing, the surroundings don’t disturb me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King, his genre but also his character development. Anne Rice for the same reasons. I spend a lot of time on my characters, making them real.

What are you working on now?
About to get back to a book I was working on before taking on the Dark, Darker, and Darkest trilogy. The new book, STAKE OUT, involved vampire policemen.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My own, STLOUISAUTHORS.COM. We’ve also advertised through AMAZON but we are still testing methods and hoping to improve on our strategy

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read and write. Both will help you learn the craft and see what’s been done so you don’t end up recreating a story already out there. I can see how my writing has improved. While I’ve taken courses and read some books, simply writing has been the most helpful to my development.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what you love. If you love it you will expend the energy to get better at it.

What are you reading now?
TIME THIEF by Nella Warrent another local author trying to be noticed and read. I try to read and support other indie authors. I’m also rereading Stephen King’s Dark Tower series.

What’s next for you as a writer?
The next book. I’ve got a script that I want to novelize. The script got an honorable mention in a competition so I believe it’s worth adapting. I’m also building another collection of short stories and am getting involved with attending events where I can meet readers and show my books.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That is tough. The Stand, Interview with a Vampire, The Power of One, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Not exactly my favorite books, maybe, but picked for their size and the variety.

Bob Freeman

Interview With Author Bob Freeman

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
The author is a retired Public Health Microbiologist/Lab Director/LIMS Software designer and a confirmed science geek.
With expertise in anaerobic microbiology and writing an exorbitant number of tech manuals and protocols, the only logical path going forward was to write what I wished.
Misunderstanding the common SciFi tropes of the day, the author builds complex worlds, adds a few interesting characters, and lets them have at it.
Further expanding on tropes, the stories are not boom/bang/fight from the start, and every third page but are explicitly designed not to be interesting to an eight-year-old male. Interesting kids of any age or sex may enjoy the work despite the lack of explosions.
The author began writing SciFi in 2021 at the tender age of 70 and is writing short stories before tackling his 4th novel in the LiftShip series.

Dan O’Mahony

Interview With Author Dan O’Mahony

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve self-published four books so far, and as of this interview will be releasing two more. I write mostly middle-grade fantasy, but one the books I’ll soon be releasing, Death’s Fair Maiden, will be my first attempt at young adult, not to mention my first fantasy-romance.
I grew up in California, mostly in So Cal. Currently, I live in Phoenix, Arizona but have plans on moving back to Cali’ in the near future. Oh, and I am the proud father of two beautiful cats, Luna and Shyanne. They are in fact sisters.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I have two books that I’m launching at the same time. As of this interview, I will be gearing up for a big book signing.
One of the books, Death’s Fair Maiden, is inspired by the myth of the banshee. It’s a fantasy romance, and I affectionately refer to it as “Boys Meets Banshee.”
The boy in this story isn’t the typical jock or billionaire or dangerous loner you might find in other books in that genre. He’s skinny, a bit effeminate looking, sensitive, and a musician and a songwriter. That’s not to say he isn’t courageous when the situation calls for it. This gave me a chance to look at masculinity, because he has some foils in the book that are definitely of the toxic variety.
The other book I’m currently launching is a middle-grade fantasy. I call it my love letter to the fantasy genre. It is also about the power of the craft of writing. In it, a young boy has suffered a terrible tragedy, and a mysterious substitute teacher inspires him to write fantasy stories. It proves to be very therapeutic. I include the stories “written” by the boy inside the body of the novel, and there does come a point when his fantasy world begins to invade the real world.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
One of my cats, Luna, loves to hang out with me when I write. I don’t know why. I must give off some sort of unique energy. We usually have to negotiate her space first, so she isn’t walking on or leaning on the keyboard. She always ends up sleeping beside my laptop and rests her chin on my hand as I type.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been a big fan of Neil Gaiman ever since I discovered The Sandman. In fact, that helped inspire me to get back into writing fantasy. I do read mostly fantasy. I love Terry Pratchett’s wit and satire. I still read a lot of mythology, mostly Irish/Celtic as well as Irish history. In Death’s Fair Maiden, there are flashback chapters that cover key events in Irish history. As a fantasy writer, and this is going to sound weird, but Chuck Palahniuk — Mr. Fight Club — had a big influence on writing, namely on how to capture a character’s voice.

What are you working on now?
I’m gearing up to start writing the second book in a series I have begun. It is middle-grade fantasy and i steeped in Irish myth and folklore. It’s about a boy who discovers he is the son of the Irish god of light and the reincarnation of Ireland’s greatest mythic hero. He is tasked with finding the Irish gods, who have been reborn as humans, and help them regain their power in time for the Fifth Cycle, a period where this world is in total convergence with the mythical Otherworld.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still a newbie when it comes to marketing and promoting. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Be ready to put in the work and be patient. You also need to develop a think skin when it comes to dealing with rejection and criticism. Learn to take constructive criticism though. And whatever you do do not “write for the market.”

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Authors write HORRIBLE novels. Characters write GREAT novels.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading A Hat Full of Sky. It’s the second novel in Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching series. She is a young witch who lives in Pratchett’s Discworld.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I really need to focus on balancing the creative side of writing with the business side. After all, I do want to make a living at this someday.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book, Stephen King’s It, Terry Pratchett’s The Wee Free Men, and William Butler Yeats’ collection of Irish mythology.

Jonathan Neville

Interview With Author Jonathan Neville

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
So far I have written 3 books, The first of which is published (A Collection Of Pleasant Nonsense) a lovely collection of short stories that includes something for every age and reader. I am currently finishing two books for children, The Adventures of Schteve and Schtephanie Giraffe MD PHD Books 4-8.
I became an author during the pandemic after changing my life around 180 degrees, and finally began doing what I have always wanted to do. I’m 42, live in burnaby BC Canada with my beautiful wife, 2 amazing children and two magical tiny giraffes. (Yes, they’re real)

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Let’s see here is what I am working on:
Original Halo novel – Precursor Rising
The Adventures of Schteve and Schtephanie Giraffe MD PHD Book 4-8 (The first 3 are in A Collection of Pleasant Nonsense)
Humanities last stand: We lost
97 percent true Legends from my life

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I often write with music, and sometimes will play the same track on loop to be able to write the feeling of the music. One of my stories in A Collection Of Pleasant Nonsense is actually written from the feelings and tears of a song that i looped until i could write it.
I am horribly disorganized notes shotgunned over paper, 2 computers, 30 different notes files….

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Clive Cussler. I once spoke to the man before he passed on, and he was an absolute Legend. I thanked him for changing my life.
Sir Terry Pratchett – Loads of influence in a lot of my writing, Discworld was a huge thing in my life and I wish I could thank him in person. He was a wonderful man who created brilliance and hope. I aim to do the same.

What are you working on now?
Writing waaaay to many books at once, going to school to learn neat new stuff to write books about, working on overcoming social anxiety, focusing more on writing childrens books and then i plan on finishing the various space operas and sci fi epics i am working on bit by bit. I am also working on getting an audiobook version created for my first book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Currently this website, and facebook postings since I refuse to learn what twitter is. Or tok tok. Mainly word of mouth and committing random acts of kindness. I need a wider marketing plan for free, always tricky for new authors

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Expect rejection from brick and mortar publishing houses. No matter how amazing your book is, people will reject it. *HERE IS THE IMPORTANT BIT* Frame it. Seriously, frame it and display it proudly, because when you get that letter? You are a real Author. Keep trying. Keep submitting! Then independently publish. Keep submitting after that, and all of a sudden you may find brick and mortar publishers are more interested…
Keep writing! No matter how down or rejected you may feel, keep on writing. you can edit later.
Latch on to any positive feedback and praise you get and focus on it. This is literal author fuel.
Keep. Writing. Don’t let slow sales, people around you saying you need a real job, your own doubts or any other nonsense slow you down. Just keep writing and submitting and learning and reading.
Authors are delicate people, focus on the positives and work to improve them. if there are negatives, learn to improve them and keep writing. But focus on the positives and live inside them. Thats how you get published.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Trust your reader

Its so hard to trust that the reader will have the same mental movie as the author when they write the thing, but truth is, no matter how much rich description you put in there, everyone has a different mental image/movie of what you’ve written, and especially with children’s books, trust your reader to do the heavy lifting

What are you reading now?
Halo Book series and Lore to prepare for my Halo novel, doing research and enjoying some amazing writing.
All the discworld books by Terry Pratchett
short stories in all genres
poetry, plays, classic science fiction

What’s next for you as a writer?
MORE BOOKS!
First I am going to publish 8 Adventures of Schteve and Schtephanie Giraffe MD PHD in picture and chapter book form then I will publish the space opera Halo novel and one or two other sci fi books I am working on at the moment and a collection of amazing real life things that have happened to me in 97 percent true legends of my life… phew! so many projects on the go.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Bloody hell… ONLY 3-4 BOOKS???
1. How to survive and escape from a desert island – By Guy Whomadit
2. The Never-ending Story
3. My kindle ebook reader BWAHAHAHAAAA! WITH SO MANY BOOKS AHAHAHAHAA! and a solar panel…
4. 6000 blank pieces of paper bound together with a pen to write an awesome new book while I wait to get rescued or rescue myself. OR! Publish it in chapters via message in a bottle addressed to harper collins or penguin, depending on where I get stranded… many of our Canadian islands are cold.

Interview With Author Ann Watkins

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Ann and I live with my husband, 3 children, cat, dog and ten chickens in the Western United States. It is a 5 mile drive to the nearest grocery store and we love it! My office overlooks the valley with large windows. This is my first published book and I am very proud of it!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
This book is titled, Quit Being so Gosh Darn Nice. I had read an article about the differences between being nice and kind and it struck a chord with me. I went into a deep dive of research about the subject and learned so many interesting things about myself. It started out as an article but quickly turned into a book. It took me two years to write becuase I would write and then have experiences that led me to dive deeper and learn new things. The original title was going to be, Quit Being so Damn Nice! but I changed it as a kind of tongue-in-cheek irony.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love the classics but for a while, I have loved reading non-fiction as well. I go through phases and dove into C.S. Lewis for a while but also love James Patterson. I am quite eclectic and love a good book and don’t stick to one particular author.

What are you working on now?
We are working on publishing my daughter’s picture book. She is 10 and wrote it when she was 9. It is sure to be a best seller once we finish. I think she will outsell me by a long shot! I would like to work on some children’s book as well as that was my original goal.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still a newbie! I hope to find out.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just start. Just take action and go through the process. Don’t be in a hurry, just take it one step at a time.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stick to your task till it sticks to you,
Beginners are many but enders are few.

What are you reading now?
The Last Bookshop in London

What’s next for you as a writer?
Starting my next book.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Count of Monte Cristo
Shakespeare Anthology
blank notebook
I’m not a fan of favorite questions because the choices overwhelm me!

Joanna Baker

Interview With Author Joanna Baker

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I fell in love with Agatha Christie at the age of 12 and I’ve been a huge fan of the genre ever since. We lived a pretty quiet but comfortable life in Hobart Tasmania and there was a lot of reading. I have tried to write other things like short stories, but I keep finding stories don’t have any pull for me unless there is a mystery.
There are three Matt and Chess mysteries so far, and I like to think they have a lot of heart as well as great clue puzzles to keep the reader guessing. I hope you like them.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The third in the series is called Evermore. In it, Chess sets out to find out what happened to her own mother. And, of course, Matt gets drawn in.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I used to wish I was more organised.
I do remember telling my friends that I work best when I think I am doing something I am not supposed to be doing. I know. This doesn’t make any sense at all. But, for example, I write best if I think I should really be doing the laundry, and if I think I am supposed to be writing I find myself doing chores around the house.
But now that we have grandchildren I find I am scrambling to find the quiet hours, so as soon as I get a minute, I am fairly motivated.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have always loved P D James. Now I read a lot of Ann Cleeves, who wrote the Shetland series and the Vera series. I also love Jane Harper, the Australian author of The Dry.
Oh and I am thrilled to see murder mysteries in movies. Knives Out. How good is that!?

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a series of murder mysteries set in my beloved Tasmania. Tasmania is rich in history and wonderful magnificent scenery. We have wild coasts and rainforests and unique mountain areas and miles and miles of wilderness. Perfect for murder.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Oh I’m just beginning to try to promote books. I’m definitely not the person to ask haha.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t try to make things perfect straight off. Write and write and write, in the knowledge that you can edit it all later. Let it flow.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Give me the courage to change what I can change and the patience to accept what I can’t. And give me the wisdom to know the difference.

What are you reading now?
Hidden Depths by Anne Cleeves and In the Company of Cheerful Ladies by Alexander McCall Smith (one of the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series.)

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am hoping to finish the first in my Tasmanian series soon. It is called Another Poison.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh that’s really hard. Well I think I know most of Agatha Christie’s books pretty well, and they are not so good to read over and over again. So, off the top of my head: The Complete Works of Shakespeare, Rumpole of the Bailey Omnibus (is an omnibus cheating?) by John Mortimer, Last Orders by Graham Swift, The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry and everything by Alexander McCall Smith. No, I’m still cheating. But I can’t make the list any shorter. ; )

Barbara Sontheimer

Interview With Author Barbara Sontheimer

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Victor’s Blessing is my debut novel, and truly a labor of love. I spent years researching and writing and truly hope it is enjoyed.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Victor’s Blessing.
My mother was an invalid for a number of years, and I would sit with her and we would talk about fun things like mermaid, faeries and ghosts. And she had read that during the revolutionary war General Washington had to let the soliders of the Continental army go home in the spring to put in their plants, otherwise their families would starve while they were out soldiering. With her old rheumy eyes my mother turned to me and said, “What if they found out later that he had been killed earlier that year, and that it was his ghost that came home to save his family from starving?” I got chills.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I literally write in a closet! No windows, just four walls with a door. I share my space with an abandoned elliptical, Oreck vacuum, and card tables and chairs. But is works for me.
I just sit down and hope my clumsy fingers can keep up!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love so many, but here goes
Daphne Du Maurier
Emily Bronte
Charlotte Bronte
Rosamund Pilcher
Anita Shreve
Kahlid Houssani (I hope I did not mis spell his name)
Mave Binchy
Lavyrle Spencer

What are you working on now?
Oh! Thanks for asking! (I am so excited) a three-part series about brides that came from France in 1721 to the shores of modern day Biloxi Mississippi. These women founded the future creole and Indian families that built the are. I’ts going to be so fun.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I feel that reader reviews are the absolute best.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
It is a jungle out here! And we erroneously thought the WRITING was the hard part. No no no it is by far the promoting.
Best advice, watch as many podcasts as you can, read as many books, talk to as many people and it never hurts to just ask for help.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
This thing that we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.

What are you reading now?
A book about Mississippi during 1690. I do research constantly but for FUN I recently finished Drowning Ruth and loved it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope I can continue to write as long as I am able.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Wuthering Heights
The Shell Seekers
Green Mansions

Tim Stickel

Interview With Author Tim Stickel

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
History is my hobby and writing historical fiction allows me to share that love with others. I’ve written three books to date, one published so far.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest (published) books is Special District: Harbin, Drawing the Tiger’s Bones. I was inspired by the complexity of the crossroads city of Harbin China, especially in the 1920s through the 1940s.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Because I like to be as historically accurate as possible I do a lot of research into the background of my stories, employing academic books and articles, travel books, and maps.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Harry Turtledove’s historical/alternative history books and Tony Hillerman’s detailed mysteries

What are you working on now?
Book 3 of my Harbin Mystery series. Book 2 is complete and will be published in November/December 2022 timeframe.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Just trying to get my story in front of as many readers as possible.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up! You have the stories inside you–just let them out.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write as you think about your story, worry about going back and cleaning it up later.

What are you reading now?
I’m toggling between Storm Over the Mekong and Voltaire

What’s next for you as a writer?
Seeing how far out (books and time) I can push my current book series. Maybe into the 1950s?

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The next 4 books in the Harvard Classics that I haven’t gotten to yet.

Pat Halford

Interview With Author Pat Halford

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in Finland and am British. I have lived and worked in the Nordic region for over 22 years and I always wanted to write Nordic thrillers but in a staccato, fast-paced tone. I have written two books and self-published both of them. Tilda & Lærke, is a chase across the Danish islands, and it’s available in Kindle and paperback. The second, North to Akureyri, is an Icelandic techno-thriller set in 2028.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is Tilda & Lærke. I had just finished writing the Icelandic thriller, but was noodling on how to get it published. I was on a plane flying back from Denmark when I got the idea for a chase across Denmark involving a bunch of assassins who had settled down to suburban life after giving up their trade 25 years ago. The idea was that one of their former crew showed up and turned their lives upside down. I wanted to use the Danish phenomenon called “sort sol” where in the early evenings in Autumn, hundreds of thousands of starlings swarm over swamps in balletic patterns. I thought it would be interesting if a bunch of assassins suddenly converged and started swarming round each other.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m better at writing in a disciplined cadence, so I try to get up early, before work and just write. I don’t tend to plan much. I find I can get into a zone with my characters and situations, and then often the plot threads emerge out of that. I also try to read what I wrote in the evenings and then sometimes new ideas come to me in half-sleep. I wrote Tilda & Lærke in a 2.5 month sprint, but the Icelandic book took me a lot longer. I like to write about places I know. So I have worked in both Denmark and Iceland, so I try to bring some of that local knowledge into the story.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Over the years – Don Winslow, James Lee Burke, James Ellroy, Eric Van Lustbader, Robert Ludlum, Tim Dorsey, Cormac McCarthy, Stephen King, James Herbert.

What are you working on now?
I’m writing a sequel to Tilda & Lærke, also set in Denmark, and I started drafting a serial killer thriller set in the forests of Finland.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Well a friend of mine recently recommended Goodreads and it has been a revelation. There is so much inspiration there and good opportunities to develop a market for first-time authors. I just created a giveaway for Tilda & Lærke, for example.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I ran into this chicken and egg problem where I could not get any interest from a Publisher because I was a first time author. Many said I needed an Agent, then I couldn’t find an Agent for similar reasons. It was a bit like trying to set up a bank account and being told you first need a reference from a Bank Manager. So I took the plunge and went with self-publishing on Amazon. First with an ebook, then with a paperback. That was a big learning experience. i designed my own cover with Canva.
I would say two pieces of advice stick out. First, you have a story…get it out there! And secondly, get a professional Editor. The editing was the toughest part of the process. I’ll do things differently next time.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Get your story out there.
Get a professional Editor.
Don’t listen to naysayers.

What are you reading now?
James Ellroy’s Widespread Panic, and a non-fiction book called The World For Sale.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to continue to develop my writing in the Nordic noir genre. I have a backlog of ideas. But I need to get this Danish sequel complete. I would like to publish through a traditional Publisher, but we’ll see how that goes.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Probably a bunch of James Lee Burke Robicheaux or Billy Bob Holland books. Aside from being great crime novels, I find the themes and prose hypnotic.
And maybe a book that explains how to desalinate sea water!

Emma Bakker

Interview With Author Emma Bakker

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a self-publishing author from Brisbane, Australia. Currently, I have published one book within the fantasy romance genre which is the first book of a three-book series I hope to be published in full by July 2023.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Queen Amongst Alphas is the first of The Queen Series and it was inspired by reading so many stories within the genre that I just wanted to contribute the stories I felt I had inside me. The Queen Series certainly won’t be the last series of novels I write.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think the term “unusual” perhaps, is more like newbie writer habits, where everything is like a steam roller and you want the end to be written already, but you are only three chapters in. Possibly the idea of handwriting all 80k + words prior to even looking at putting them into a computer, I guess that could be considered unusual in some circles with the way technology is these days.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Emilia Rose’s trilogy most definitely influenced me. Her books: Submitting to the Alpha, Defying the Alpha and Protecting the Alpha in particular.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I am working away on the second novel of The Queen Series, following my main character Nyx along her exceptionally muddy pathway.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As a new author, I am still trying to navigate my way around a lot of the promotional methods with new books. I have recently created my social media page through Facebook: Emma Bakker Author and seek to grow into a website for updates and promotional reasons.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just give it a go. Everyone has a story to share, even if it takes 5 years of working through your commitments, it is such a relief and when you hold the book in your hand or download your very first copy, the feeling is amazing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Exactly what I just gave, just give it a go. When I said I wanted to try and deliver some of these genre books, that was the advice I received, and I am very glad I followed it.

What are you reading now?
I am a bit behind the time, right now I am reading A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

What’s next for you as a writer?
To deliver the rest of The Queen Series and continue on to a few other ideas and thoughts I have for a few other series afterwards.

Gary Jaron

Interview With Author Gary Jaron

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a mystic, a philosopher, and a dreamer, and I am addicted to reading and writing.
An example of that addiction was demonstrated when I was buried under an overwhelming amount of material required to be read and studied during my first years at law school; I still had to feed my habit. I read the two Alice in Wonderland tales as well as the complete John Le Carre’s George Smiley series.
The books I have self-published include the following:
Find Your Way: A Mystic Philosopher’s Pragmatic Orienting System
The Qabalah Gates of Light: The Story of How and Why the Masters of the Occult Misunderstood the Jewish Kabbalah
The Qabalah Paths of Light: The Occult Qabalah Reclaimed
The Shattered Dreamers Urban Fantasy Series:
Through the Gate of Dreams
All My Days Are Trances

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I am currently working on Beleive That Love Will Never Fail, the third fantasy novel in the Lamont Corazon and Basha Edelman Urban Fantasy series. It continues their attempts to make right what went wrong after they opened the Gate of Dreams. It tells how they rescued their friends, redeemed a once-dead God named Tezcatlipoca, and transform him into Smoking Mirror, the goddess of Dreaming.
It continues my love of exploring Lucid Dreaming and the effects that dreams can have on your waking world life. In my series, the two teen lovers live two lives, one in 1980 San Francisco and the other in the Lovecraft realm of Dreamland.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
The way I wrote my first fantasy novel and the nonfiction books was to get up at 5 am every weekend morning, sit in front of my computer and write till noon. Now that I am retired, I still get up every day and begin working on my writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
In fiction, the writing style of Ray Bradbury and the Dreamland cycle of tales by Howard Philip Lovecraft. In nonfiction, the writing of Viktor Frankl, Robert Pirsig, William James, and the work on the Jewish Kabbalah by Gershom Scholem.

What are you working on now?
The third Urban Fantasy novel of my two teenage lovers, in my Dreamland/San Francisco series, Believe that Love Will Never Fail.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Always a challenge. I have posted on Goodreads, my Facebook page, my blog site, and now here.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write and do not be afraid of re-writing and even throwing away, metaphorically speaking, your first hundred or so pages. I spent writing about 200 pages in the early drafting of my first fiction and nonfiction books. They are just stored on my computer. Non of those pages ever really got used in the final versions. But the willingness to write and toss away earlier versions helped get me going. That and don’t expect things to go as planned. Listen to your unconscious – it knows more than your conscious mind. Your characters will take you places that you did not plan and expect. Just try and keep up as best you can.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Find a time when you can repeatedly be writing. You need to commit yourself to being in the same place and at the same time to do this. The conscious decision and conscious act of commitment will enable you to unlock your unconscious mind into cooperating with your conscious mind and recognize that you are serious. Then the words will begin to flow…

What are you reading now?
Stephen Greenblatt’s The Rise and Fall of Adam and Eve. Brian Stableford’s Young Blood. Daniel Matt’s translation of The Zohar. Carolina Montague’s Forever Green.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue writing my Urban Fantasy series with my teen lovers Lamont and Basha, and work on a long-term project exploring the ideas of William James in the project with the current title of The Varieties of Human Experience.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Essential William James by James Campbell, Robert Pirsig’s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Annotated Sherlock Holmes by William Barring-Gould, and a thick blank book.

Susan Reinhardt

Interview With Author Susan Reinhardt

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written six books, including two novels and would love to be featured. Below is a bio.
Susan Reinhardt is a best-selling author known for her gift of taking serious topics and infusing them with humor and heart. She is especially praised for creating casts of unforgettable, quirky characters who stay in readers’ minds long after the final page.
Her debut novel, CHIMES FROM A CRACKED SOUTHERN BELLE, won “Best Regional Fiction” in the Independent Publishers Book Awards international contest, and was a No. 1 Amazon bestseller. The novel was a top summer reading pick and a book-club favorite.
Her second novel, THE BEAUTIFUL MISFITS, publishes from Regal House in March 2023 and is perfect for fans of Jennifer Weiner, Joshilyn Jackson, Mary Kay Andrews, and Kristin Hannah.
Reinhardt’s books vary from book-club women’s fiction to romantic comedies for the over 35 crowd.
Her non-fiction humor titles include NOT TONIGHT HONEY: WAIT ’TIL I’M A SIZE 6, praised by Publishers Weekly as filled with “lyrical prose” that’s “fun and fresh,” and by Booklist who lauded her work as “ranging from side-splitting to achingly poignant. She’s like a modern-day, southern-fried Erma Bombeck or Dave Barry, and her tales of the ordinary will resonate with women everywhere.”
She is a former syndicated columnist with Gannett Newspapers and has written for national publications, winning multiple awards.
She lives in the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, N.C., and is on her second husband. She has two grown children, three steps, and a granddaughter.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
THE BEAUTIFUL MISFITS is book-club fiction in the women’s fiction genre. I worked for years as a Lancome makeup artist, and have a son who struggled and nearly died from addiction. He is the inspiration and is now clean and sober. Instead of a depressing novel, THE BEAUTIFUL MISFITS is an emotional yet uplifting ride through a world of fierce love, store-bought beauty, and wonder.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to do the Wordle first, and drink coffee if I’m doing morning writing. I also must have snacks available, especially microwave popcorn. Unlike a lot of writers, I can’t listen to music as I write. I need a quiet place, which is usually my home office. I have a large window that highlights the gorgeous mountain region. My rescue cat often sleeps right next to my keyboard.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Billie Letts, Anne Tyler, Kelly Harms, and all the best Sophies: Sophie Kinsella, Sophie Ranald, and Sophie Cousens.
There isn’t much I won’t read except fantasy and erotica.
The first book I fell in love with was THE BOXCAR CHILDREN in sixth grade.

What are you working on now?
I’ve just begun querying THE HALF WIFE, a rom/com. Here’s the premise:

Jupiter Bexley, a disgraced flight attendant who loves ironing for stress relief, jeggings for comfort, and helping those with disabilities for a career⸺made a staggering mistake. And it’s now returned to bite her in the Spanx-squeezed arse. That vile prenup. She shouldn’t have signed it, but Lord, her big-shot politician husband presented it hours before she said ‘I do’ in a dress that cost more than a Kia.

On the eve of her thirty-ninth birthday, Jupiter returns from her volunteer job and discovers her life has been a lie. And that the current prenup is completely different from what she originally signed. Yet there it was, her signature.

When the new clauses upend her life, leaving her temporarily broke and semi-homeless, feisty Jupiter yanks up her big-girl jeggings and creates two quirky new businesses. One is respectable enough. The other? A Fake Dating service that, God forbid, could send her down the aisle again.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Not being shy or cheap. I hired a publicist for some things, like media placement, but do a lot myself. It takes a lot of work, devotion, and a decent credit card balance to pull this off. Most authors end up in the hole for a while.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
READ and READ some more in the genre in which you want to write.
Take classes online. There are many free sites, but I love the courses on Writer’s Digest and Jericho Writers which cost very little with a nominal membership fee. Also, join writers’ groups, get critique partners and beta readers. And remember it takes multiple revisions – and rejections – for most of us to break through. So throw on that armadillo shell and go forth bravely.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up. It works.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading a rom/com called ROOM-MAID. It’s cute.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m doing National Novel Writing Month – NaNo – in November.
I don’t plan to stop writing a novel a year until I’m incapable. The more novels I write, the better I get. And so will any other would-be writer.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Where the Crawdads Sing
The Poisonwood Bible
Gone With the Wind
Pride and Prejudice

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I really liked the “House of Night” series by PC Cast and Kristin Cast.

I’m working on a sequel to “Silencing The Siren” and a separate book about the Fae.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Twitter, Facebook, basically any social media site works really well.

What’s next for you as a writer?

Anndy Lian

Interview With Author Anndy Lian

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Anndy Lian. I have provided advisory across a variety of industries for local, international, public listed companies and governments. I am an early blockchain adopter and experienced serial entrepreneur, book author, investor, board member and keynote speaker. I have written two books. The first was “Blockchain Revolution 2030”. The second is “NFT: From Zero to Hero”.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
NFT: From Zero to Hero is my latest book. Zero to Hero is a call to anyone and everyone excited about the prospect of the world of NFT. Bound by imagination only, the NFT space is still in its early days, and early adopters can be a “heroes” in their search for new possibilities.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to walk around during the brainstorming periods. And usually lying on the bed when writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Books about Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father of Singapore, influenced me the most. For example, “The Singapore Story: Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew” is a book about his personal and political life and provides a blow-by-blow chronicle of his dealings with political groups and leaders, both Malaysian and international, on the road to independence.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I am appointed as the Chief Digital Advisor at Mongolia Productivity Organization, championing national digitization. I am still working on good investments on the side. I still hope to contribute my knowledge and expertise to a good crypto company in the near future.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do believe being active on social media will help. Of course, having a community that believes in you helps much too. Community-driven, word-of-mouth promotion works the best.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
New authors should look at publishing their books in new formats like NFT or on Web3 platforms too. Trying something new can bring you surprises too.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Focus more on the present — Don’t regret the past and don’t be anxious about the future. Appreciate what is happening right now.

What are you reading now?
I am reading “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson right now.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am working on a picture book and another on cryptocurrency trading strategies.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Universe in a Single Atom: The Convergence of Science and Spirituality by Dalai Lama would be the book. I always wanted to complete this book but did not find the time to finish it.

Adding to the stranded island list would be Proof Of Stake: The Making of Ethereum and the Philosophy of Blockchains Paperback by Vitalik Buterin and The Mamba Mentality: How I Play Hardcover by Kobe Bryant.

Zeec Rustom

Interview With Author Zeec Rustom

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a debut author from India and have just published my very first Contemporary Romance named “A Sense of Betrayal” which is available on Amazon.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first book is “A Sense of Betrayal” and it’s a sweet love story. I have always believed in the theory of Childhood Sweethearts, first loves and love developing between friends. Plus I do love the concept of an unruly tomboy. All of the above combined together to form my first book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am not sure if it can be considered unusual but I don’t generally need to sit secluded and focused to write…rather I keep getting up in between my writing to get other things done as well.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am an avid reader, so it’s difficult for me to answer this one appropriately. I love reading everything from Harry Potter, Twilight Series, Pride & Prejudice, and The Count of Monte Christo to Romances in a lot of categories like Historical, Fantasy, Paranormal, Contemporary, Erotic & Dark Romances. All of them have touched me in many ways.

What are you working on now?
I am presently working on the first book of a Fantasy Series…..which is a mix of Fantasy & Hindu Mythology. Something a bit different from the Vampire, Werewolves, Witches & Demons we usually come across in such books, as Hindu mythology has a variety of other magical & mystical beings that haven’t been much explored in the book world.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Being a debut author…I am just trying out various avenues myself and am not yet qualified to answer this one.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you love to write ….don’t let anything or anyone stop you from writing your stories. Like I have captioned on my website….I truly believe “Books have to be read & stories have to be told.”

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Believe in yourself & anything is possible.

What are you reading now?
Presently listening to the audiobook “Kings of Linwood Academy” by Callie Rose

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write many more books.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Poison Study, Bridge Kingdom, In the Unlikely Event, Unrequited

Interview With Author Tristan Mowrey

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am soft at heart and like to think I am intellectual. I took a personality test and it said I was a thinker and that is very true when it came to writing books. I have now written three books and they are published on Amazon.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called About Alcohol: How the H3LL do I drink responsibly? It was inspired by my own struggles with judgment from others when drinking. This is a very forgiving and non condemning look into drinking that I believe everyone could benefit from, in order to live a more fulfilled life.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well all my bad habits I mentioned to my editor but my good habits would be my attention to detail and being completely honest in my books.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I can think of two, the first one being the Left Behind series, I tend to be a future global thinker so it was very interesting to me. The other one was the Passion translation of the bible. I was just amazed at how the use of different words can help us understand the bible. I have been striving for this because I want everyone to be able to understand my writing and be moved by the words.

What are you working on now?
Currently working on a book called Monochromatic Mind: Immerse into your imagination! The plan is to have black and white photoshopped images of photography I took coupled with short stories to activate you imagination.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
This is probably where I have not done so great. I am starting with AWESOME GANG but would like to expand from that.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Hmmmm, Use KDP before getting on Ingram Spark.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be careful that what you read does not become what you write.

What are you reading now?
It is kinda funny but my wife and I are hopping to get a house soon so I have been reading home improvement books because it is looking like we are going to have to buy a fixer upper.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am looking more into marketing and hoping to be able to promote my books more.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
You might think this is shameless promoting but honestly I would want to bring Blessed with Ducks which I wrote because it brings me so much joy and would make me feel not alone. I would also bring my book Spiritual Journey because it would give me hope for the future since I am stranded on a desert island and not sure if I will be saved. 🙂 🙂
