Christian D. Maddison

Interview With Author Christian D. Maddison

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Colorado with lots of family, from my great-grandmother to my aunts and uncles. I am a first of everything, great-grandchild, grandchild, etc. My brother came 9 years later. During the pandemic, I had nothing else to do, so I wrote and formulated about 8 books, 2 of which have been published and 1 currently in review. I’m constantly writing, so I may have more.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
For… A collection of short romantic erotic stories was released on my birthday (8-19). I thought I’d really write a book for the people to get into and understand their “kink.” It’s a fast-paced book with 6 short stories of sexual “adventures.”

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My unusual writing habits include insomnia, music (broadway music mostly), a quiet office, and tons of darkness. There’s a twist to my writing. You will never see me. I’m the writing version of “Sia.” I like the mystery because it keeps people wondering about me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Some of the authors that have inspired me are JK Rowling and Zane.

What are you working on now?
A prequel to Therapy for a broken heart entitled Stages of love. Instead of the stages of anger and grief, I flipped it to dive into what happens in, during, and after a relationship.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I post everywhere I can. For me, there’s no 1 main solution. I catch people in every way possible. Website, at the store, church, networking sites, social media, Facebook, Goodreads, Youtube, etc. In today’s society, you have to.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to learn all you can. I’m still learning about hashtags, keywords, SEO, etc. You must also research and verify book companies, editors, and scammers. Once you request information from 1, they all come. This is not an easy, I’m famous type of profession. it’s taxing on your mental health, emotions, and wallet. So be prepared.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stay positive and remember WHO and WHAT you’re writing for. “You want fame, well fame costs, and right here is where you start with pain and sweat.” Debbie Allen-Fame

What’s next for you as a writer?
More promoting, interviews, podcasts, and writing. Thinking of a possible book tour in the next few years as well.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Color Purple, Anything Disney-related, and For…

Ashley Rice

Interview With Author Ashley Rice

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a writer and illustrator of inspiring books for tweens and kids. I have written 11 books. I made my living for many years as a creator of these books, along with a line of greeting cards and related products. Now, I also work for a nonprofit website as a concept and character artist. I work on educational video games for elementary school-aged kids.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Believe in Yourself, Girl. Books buoyed me when I was a kid. I wanted to put something out there that might help other kids as they were growing up and facing challenges, or just inspire them to keep on dreaming and believing in their futures.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I sometimes write standing up with my laptop on top of my bookcase.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is the first book I remember reading by myself. I like the simplicity and the repetition. And also the one-of-a-kind art. I liked the drawings and poems in Shel Silverstein a lot, and the stories in Judy Blume’s books. Charlotte’s Web was too sad for me, but I still liked it.

What are you working on now?
I am working on redefining my style now that everything has changed and I have gotten older.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
In the past, I posted them on my own website, www.ashleyrice.net. I am learning more about promotion across different channels now. I am still figuring that out. Awesome gang seems like an excellent place to do that!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Trust your own voice.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t be afraid of failure – it’s necessary to learn and grow. Keep learning.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading HTML5 for Masterminds and Waterman: the Life and Times of Duke Kahanamoku.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to write something longer.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Can I bring my kindle app?
If I could bring only paper books, I might bring The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson, The Little Prince, Eloise at the Plaza (for the drawings) and the biggest book on learning languages that I could find.

C. Roth

Interview With Author C. Roth

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a native Oklahoman, although I have lived in other places after graduating from the University of Oklahoma. During a three-year stint in Tampa, FL, I met Tiffany on a “friend date” set up by our parents (don’t ask), which just happened to be Tiffany’s 21st birthday. We have been sisters from another mother ever since. Though we live in different states now, we still talk daily and get together with their kids for visits and family vacations every year. We just published our first book, Karma of the Karma and Fate Duet.

I live with my kiddo, Son of Godzilla-Manilla, the guinea pig, Theodore Roosevelt-Teddy, the mini Aussiedoodle, and Jack Frost, the cat. I enjoy reading, history, and traveling with my family to make new memories.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Our latest book is Karma of the Karma and Fate Duet. I have always enjoyed writing, and my collaboration for Karma and Fate grew from many years of writing fanfiction for a Vin Diesel Fan Club after the original Fast and the Furious movie came out in 2001. I am an avid reader of all genres, but I love romantic suspense with strong female characters and alpha males.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. Tiffany and I text back and forth ideas about the story and characters, and then one of us writes the scene.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Stephen King, Penelope Douglas, C.M. Stunich, Collen Hoover, K. Webster, Anna Wineheart, Wendy Webb, and Sierra Simone just to name a few.

What are you working on now?
Fate is with the formatters, and we are currently working on a book from one of the characters from the Karma and Fate Duet.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Network with social groups.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Like Nike says, “just do it.” If it is something that you love, put that pen to paper and go for it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what makes you happy because life is too short. I have lost so many people, especially recently, that you must make it count.

What are you reading now?
I Am Watching You by Teresa Driscoll

What’s next for you as a writer?
Release Fate, the conclusion of the Karma and Fate Duet, on 11/20/2022, then start working on our next novel.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh man, that is hard! There are so many good ones. The Shining is a must. I love that book! Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a definite, and the Thorn Chapel series by Sierra Simone.

Zoe Marie Townley

Interview With Author Zoe Marie Townley

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi!
I’m Zoe Marie and Reborn: As a Defective Drake is the first book I’ve finished and published. Currently, I’m working on Defective Drake 2 as well as a Kindle Vella series called Plummet that was actually designed to be serialized.
As for me- well. I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s of science in business from Judson College in 2021. I currently work a normal office job as a business broker and office manager (I keep all the computer stuff running, basically) and write on the weekends and at night.
My identical twin, Savanah Townley, actually does all of the art for my books. She’s my sounding board, my sanity, my best friend, and my artist all in one. Later this year, she’ll hopefully be publishing her own first book called “Daughter of the King” a fantasy telling of the relationship between a daughter and father and the love within it.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Reborn: As a Defective Drake is the culmination of a couple of different things, but really? My biggest motivator here would have to be spite. A friend said college students never get anything done, I said “Bet!”, and wrote the first ten thousand words for it that very night. Two years later and I’m not going to say “I told you so”, it’d be rude, but it’s done and has been published for a few weeks now.
The second factor to why Defective Drake came to be, was that I wasn’t particularly attached to the story line.
I’ve been writing for over ten years, but Defective Drake is the first story I’ve actually published. And, it’s not because I lacked the time or motivation. It’s because I wanted everything to be perfect for these perfectly crafted stories. I worked so hard in designing characters and setting up ongoing themes, that by the time it came to actually write all of my ideas out I couldn’t be satisfied with it. Nothing I wrote was ever good enough for me. So, I took a story line I wasn’t particularly invested in and told myself that I wouldn’t care if it was disliked because I didn’t care about it as much. Which, now that it’s finished and published, I can definitely say I care – but it was enough at the time to help me get through areas where I didn’t particularly like what I was writing. So yeah. Defective Drake began due to a spiteful bet and a plot line I decided not to like. Yet now, as I carefully set up the stage for the second book, I’ve found that I quite love this little story line and that it is perhaps my favorite one yet.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to go places and write. They can’t be too noisy or have too many people, but somehow going places can help me figure out what to write. I also listen to music in other languages as a kind of white noise when I’m at home, even when it’s quiet.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I was younger, the first iteration of Warriors by Erin Hunter really influenced the way I saw characters. Characters don’t have to be people, they can be cats, dogs, or whatever you need them to be. This came out in my writing of Defective Drake.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on Reborn: As a Defective Drake 2 (I’ve tentatively decided to set my goal at April), Plummet (A light novel series to be serialized on Kindle Vella), and a fantasy themed color book project I started my last year of high school and never finished.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, Facebook has allowed a lot of my friends and family to clue in on my finished book, but I’ve not experienced a lot of luck with other social media networking.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you have five minutes to write then you have five minutes to write. You can’t change that. You either take the five minutes to write something freaking fantastic or you take the five minutes to laze around and never write a book. It’s your choice, but no matter what you do, there will always be a limit in what you’re doing. So, work within your limits to make the best of what you can. Best effort will give the best result. It just takes time.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If it’s worth doing, do it right the first time. My parents used that one to get me to do my chores correctly, but I’ve taken to applying it to whatever I do, regardless of whether or not I want to do it. There are a lot of things in life I’m never going to be able to change. Picking up extra work to get through college wasn’t at all enjoyable, but I did it with my best foot forward because it was worth doing and it was worth doing right.

What are you reading now?
The Great Cleric by Broccoli Lion. It’s a great light novel series. I love it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to write my next book in the Reborn series, start my Kindle Vella series Plummet, and get this coloring book done. After that – more books and more series. I have a lot of stories to share with everyone and I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s going to take a few decades to share them all.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh, wow, that’s hard. Probably the Inheritance Cycle. I got halfway through Brisingr in high school and set it down. I’ve been meaning to get back to it, but haven’t yet.

Kelly Winsa

Interview With Author Kelly Winsa

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started writing films and then books when I had kids. My first film, Hi Honey, won some awards. It’s a comedy about a woman who can’t get what she wants until she figures out that she is waiting for somebody else to tell her it’s ok. As soon as she figures this out, bingo, she gets a dog, her passion. This taught me that I should keep going, tell my kids to keep going, and not be afraid. Sometimes life throws some real merde at you and you have to keep telling yourself, keep it up!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called The Particle and it was inspired by my travels to France, to Provence. There was a couple who owned a vineyard and I stayed with them. Leo knew a lot about black madonnas and I was traveling to see on in the Camargue. Soon it became apparent that there were messages coming from the symbolism, the history, the figures that I could hear in my subconscious. This was exciting and new. Living in Hawaii where the veil is thin, I already had an adventure where I found someone just using my own instinct. I was going to see a Kapuna, a famous healer known around the world but no one would tell me where she lived. But I found her….she lived right beside the ocean, and I was not disappointed. She said nothing to me and yet I learned so much. So the mystery of life continues…

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Early in the morning I always wake with something to write. It is in my dream of early thoughts of the morning. I take this to mean that when we are allowing it to come, it does. Nearly every day there is something unusual, often something I would not have even imagined the day before. I study at continuing education and this also brings a lot of courage and backbone to my writing that otherwise would be lost.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
In my early adulthood I read all of Hemingway. Now I like women writers mostly, and British writers who are funny. Like most people, or people who write anyway, I can be critical of other people’s work and that is often because I need to be writing myself!

What are you working on now?
Right now the spine of my third novel, The Great is created. For this I will travel to Ireland and see the burial mound that is like a womb in the south. When I have an idea like this I must follow it.
The Great is the third novel in The Robi’s Flying Saucer Series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to talk to people directly, and to kids. I do this in social settings, at camps, and at schools.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Not really. An author is always a new author, every morning when you pick up the pen or open your computer.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t stop.

What are you reading now?
I am waiting for delivery of Diary of a Young Naturalist.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Will continue to write The Great in between cooking and walking and cycling.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
drawing books, some good illustration pens, and Forever Amber.

Interview With Author OLADAPO OSUNTOKUN

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
• I am interested in identifying and narrowing the fringes between Religion and Psychology and Psychiatry and bringing them together. I am especially interested in pastoral counseling through meditation and prayer.
• It is my considered opinion that there is no reason for any Pastor to go astray from his divine call if he has access to counseling.
• My interest as a Psychiatrist, counselor, teacher of Psychology, Psychiatry, and Religion, and Pastor of a church is to help everyone attain a higher level of faith, happiness, and understanding through storytelling.
• I have a great deal of passion for refining and simplifying the processes involved so everyone can make their conclusions on how to tackle day-to-day obstacles posed by depression, PTSD, suicide, drug addiction, and other life-threatening mental health issues.
• I love storytelling. Most of my books will start with a story that will help everyone draw an independent personal conclusion on how to deal with a universal problem. Then there will be a reflection that will go deeper on how to understand the problem and expose better psychological and emotional clarity. There will also be a portion on self-help counseling to get everyone over the stumbling block.

Jennifer Chichester

Interview With Author Jennifer Chichester

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Jen, but I also write under JK Chichester/That Crime Writer Chick. I am a graduate with degrees in English and Psychology. I have self-published four poetry books and am working on publishing full-length novels.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
sleepsong: a poetic romp is my most recent work. It was inspired by a lot of spiritual growth I was going through at the time. I was also experimenting with short poetry and different structures.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I write, I like having YouTube videos on in the background. Specifically, the Steve Wilkos Show. It has even inspired a few story ideas for me!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Jane Austen and L. M. Montgomery are two of my earliest influences. Pride and Prejudice is, in fact, the greatest novel ever written. Shirley Jackson, John Kennedy Toole, and Ken Kesey were so influential that they all made their way into my Master’s thesis! I also adore many contemporary thriller and true crime writers, including Lisa Jewell, Gregg Olsen, Freida McFadden, and Jeneva Rose.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a rom-com/thriller hybrid called Knife’s Edge. It is a quirky tale of an unlikely duo who must work together to clear their names after someone is murdered inside the bar where they work (Knife’s Edge).

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have had the best results on Instagram and Facebook, so you can check me out on either of those for updates and promos.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t listen to the nasty little voices in your head that tell you you’re not good enough, that nobody will like your writing. Those voices are weak; you are strong. Do what you love. As singer Tori Amos once told me at a meet-and-greet, “The world needs poets, now more than ever.” It needs all kinds of writers. So, write! And keep doing it!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
What Tori said.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Jeneva Rose’s The Perfect Marriage as well as Never Lie by Freida McFadden. Both are excellent with plenty of fun twists!

What’s next for you as a writer?
Publishing my thrillers!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Some really big ones so that I can find a way to write in the margins, ha ha. Although this eliminates my copy of Paradise Lost; the margins are already consumed.

Danielle Forrest

Interview With Author Danielle Forrest

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an autistic author who was obsessed with the paranormal at an early age. Recognizing in my teens that I could never survive the rampant rejections of being a traditionally published author, I decided to pursue a career in my second love: science.

Over time, I eventually discovered Paranormal Romance, loving the way traditionally villainous creatures were portrayed as lovable and misunderstood and (bonus) loving that I didn’t have to worry about whether characters I’d come to invest my heart and soul into would eventually find an unfortunate end. Through my love of science and Paranormal Romance, I eventually found my way to SciFi Romance, which had similarly inhuman love interests while also blending unique and fascinating world-building that (sometimes) had strong scientific leanings.

When I decided to start publishing back in 2019, I knew I would go into SciFi Romance and soon fell in love with creating the worlds, ecosystems, and species. I also loved creating unique characters with diverse identities. As of now, I am working on my 11th book. I’m a bit slow for my genre, but have managed to consistently publish a book every 4 months.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The last book I published was Shifting Tides, which is an alien romance featuring a young trans heroine who is trying (and failing) to find her place in the world. She leaves the planet she’s settled on because of a stalker, and not only ends up finding love, but also helps uncover a government conspiracy.

This is the 5th book in the series (including the prequel) and so to an extent, the book is inspired by the ones that came before it. Jessie, the heroine, has been in the books to varying degrees since Shifting Cargo (Book 1) and I’ve watched her go from an awkward teenager who has body image issues and is grossed out by her sister’s sex life, to a woman who has found a partner, a community, and a home separate from the one she had growing up.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m autistic, so probably all of my habits are unusual. I feel like sitting down to write or edit is always a bit of a struggle for me. Though I can absolutely sit down for hours, writing 10k+ words, I’m just as likely to feel like screaming and pulling my hair out after only writing a couple hundred words. It’s been quite a journey learning how to transition my “write when I feel like it” hobby into a “setting business hours” writing style. I’d done NaNoWriMo for years before publishing, and I’d always found, even with only 30 days, that I would burn out if I tried to write every day. I would often plan for writing most of the novel on weekends, where I could write 5k+ words each day, making up for my slacker periods during the week.

And I still struggle with it, often having to get up and pace to relieve extra energy or walk away to read a non-fiction book to distract my brain for a bit (always non-fiction because if it’s fiction, I’ll never come back).

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I don’t know that I could give specifics. I’ve read so many books, thousands, and I suspect all of them have influenced me in some ways. I often notice things in books I’m reading and make note of it, loving one thing or another other authors are doing.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on editing Shifting Shadows, is a lesbian alien romance novella. The heroines, Taln and Eirse, were introduced in Shifting Paradigms, and I immediately fell in love with them and started shipping them. I knew they needed to be a couple and that I would eventually write their story. The story is shorter than most I write because the characters had known each other for years before the book started, so it was a story of how they transitions from coworkers to romantic partners, not how they came to know and love each other. They already did, they were just too hopeless to realize it.

The book also has a creature in it that was inspired by the vashta nerada from Doctor Who, though nowhere near as cool. You can’t get cooler than Doctor Who. Let’s be real here.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
https://linktr.ee/danielleforrest

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Connect with other authors in your genre. So many other things are personal, but that is a must no matter what.

Also, if you can’t engage with other readers in your genre, preferably in enthusiastic ways, you probably shouldn’t be writing that type of book.

My first series, which I didn’t classify as romance because I wasn’t sure it quite hit the mark (though it definitely had romantic elements and readers often said it would be satisfying to romance readers), left me trying to connect with authors and readers in science fiction, which I just couldn’t seem to connect with, resulting in a situation where each book performed worse than the last.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Read in the genre you write.

What are you reading now?
Anna’s Bounty by Deysi O’Donal

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll be starting a new series in 2023, which I plan to title “Matched to the Alien.” The first book in the series is Matched to the Alien Prince, which features a heroine who signs up at an interstellar matchmaking agency to escape an abusive partner.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
It may be weird because I write alien romance, but it would probably be either a selection of books from Jacquelyn Frank’s several Nightwalker series or something by Lynsay Sands. Of all the books I’ve read, I’ve rereads those so many times it isn’t funny. I often will reread them when I’m in a funk. They are nostalgic for me because they were among my earliest romance reads.

Julie Hoyle

Interview With Author Julie Hoyle

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I had not planned on being a writer. However in 2007, I was on a train heading from London to Nottingham and I had nothing to read. I remembered having picked up a free magazine in ca;;ed Connections in a Mind-Body-Spirit bookstore, which I had stuffed into one of my bags. I pulled it out and began reading an article written by Barbara Brennen, a well known healer. In the article, Barbara detailed the importance of owning your creative energy and utilizing it purposefully. Something inside me clicked. I heard an inner voice say, “You can do this. You can write articles and essays that inspire people.” There was such urgency in the message I did not think twice. I had nothing to write on, so I borrowed a pencil, opened up a paper napkin and began drafting my first article. After tweaking and editing, I sent the article to the editor of Connections. A short while later, the editor wrote back saying he wanted to use the article. That was the start of my writing career. Since then I have been featured in twenty plus MBS magazines. I have also written five books, designed three guided journals, created several online courses and have been interviewed close to a hundred times on various podcasts as well as on YouTube channels.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is, ‘’The Shadow Work Diaries, How the Darkness You fear Holds the Treasure You Seek.’ During the pandemic (when the Bahamas was on strict lockdown) I wrote a book dedicated to dealing with the shadow aspects of the personality (and the damage it can do if left unchecked) The title of that one is, Meeting the Shadow, Finding Your Self and and it was so well received, I decided to do a follow up. The Shadow Work Diaries has been a fantastic collaborative effort. I invited nine other writers to share their personal stories of what happened after they engaged with the energy of the shadow, especially with respect to their creative output. The results are incredible.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I keep it simple. I listen to my inner guidance and I go from there. I can write fairly quickly, which I think is a result of having written so many articles for Mind-Body-Spirit magazines. I would be given a word limit, a deadline, and a theme to work with. That was fantastic training to be able to pull an idea or an anecdote up in a rapid space of time and not languish too long in complacency or self-doubt.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Spiritual biographies are my go-to. One of my favorite books is Conscious Dreaming by Robert Moss. I also love anything that Sufi Master Llewelyn Vaughan Lee has written. Jan Frazier’s, When Fear Falls Away is beautiful too.

What are you working on now?
In the last two and a half years I have written and published three books, so I am on a bit of a writing hiatus. Instead, I am focusing more on the promotional side of things, which as a friend once said is like, “A hungry monster that always needs feeding.” Marketing usually goes on the back burner for me when I am writing a book, and it is time to meet the monster head on. After I am done with some of that (though you really can never be done) I plan to start on a short, permafree book, to help and guide creatives to tap into their intuitive guidance and utilize it!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Instagram has been useful. Facebook too, I also send out a bi-monthly newsletter to subscribers, which is well received.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes. Just keep writing. Also, get the right marketing help. There is a lot of rubbish out there. However, if you do your research you can hit gold. I have found Publisher Rocket has been great. Viewing their free course on how to set up AMS (Amazon Marketing Services) promotions was really valuable. I would also say, create a good book cover. Hire someone if necessary. It does make a difference.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It was not advice, it was a prompt. I have been a lucid dreamer since childhood. In November 2008, I had a lucid dream and in the dream, a Master Yogi walked up to me and asked, “When are you writing the book?” I was baffled. I asked, “What am I supposed to write about?” and she gave me a look that said, “Come on, don’t be a dummy.” Several weeks later, I started hearing the words as if they had been poured into my heart and mind, and I started writing them down. That was how the first book, “An Awakened Life, A Journey of Transformation,” came about.

What are you reading now?
I am reading articles and draft chapters of books written by friends and clients. I am often asked to review content before it goes out and I am busy with that. I also turn to, ‘The Autobiography of a Yogi,” by Paramahamsa Yogananda on a regular basis.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Recently, I have been learning a massive amount about marketing. I have subscribed to Nick Stephenson’s marketing course titled, “Your First 10K Readers,” and it has been great. It has made me realize just how much content I have already created, and how important it is to stand behind that, rather than falling into the habit of thinking I need to create something new again.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Face Before I Was Born, Llewelyn Vaughan Lee
Play of Consciousness by Swami Muktananda and
The Yoga of Jesus by Paramahamsa Yogananda

Opal Stone

Interview With Author Opal Stone

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Opal Stone is my real name. Not a pen name. Pen names have a purpose but for what I am doing right now, I decided to let my readers know, I am who I say I am. I was not born a Stone, I married a Stonestreet and when we divorced, I decided on the last name Stone. Everywhere I go my name sparks curiosity. They ask, ok, tell me how you got the name Opal Stone and I tell my story.

Enough about that, why did I decide to become an author? My sister and I started to write a children’s book in 2006, at that time self-publishing was something that we were not aware of. We presented our manuscript to a publishing company only to be turned down.
We gave up and put that dream on a flaming back burner that never died out.

In 2020 we addressed that nagging back burner by researching how we can become self-publishers. We went online and researched as much information as we could. I was working full-time as a correctional nurse in a prison and my sister is living on a very limited income, so I had to work hard to save money to set us free.
I told my sister I am writing for our lives. I needed to set myself free from this stressful prison job but I needed savings so we could afford a good book cover designer and other self-publishing expenses. We were determined to have quality books. Once I had a small savings, I resigned so I can help my sister full time.
We became authors Smith & Stone. We are blessed because we both have talents that complement one another. I cannot do this without my sister, and she tells me she cannot do this without me.
My sister was blessed with computer skills, and I was blessed with the gift to promote and reach out to people. We both are blessed with the ability to be creative by thinking outside the box.
We published our first book in July 2022 Tucson Fit Trip, which is an enormous step forward for us because we started this journey in July 2021. We are still learning, and we know that no reviews mean no revenue. But something strange is happening here and we both feel it.
We got our first $2.52 earnings notice from KDP and we rejoiced.
Some folks might think we are not doing well in the publishing business but those who might think this may know us very well.
Publishing gives us so much more than money. We have love, creativity and now a purpose. With our writing we can help others, and this gives us joy.
My sister was a very shy person and just wanted to format our books and not interact with people. I have seen what publishing did for her self-esteem and mine and you just can’t put a price on that.
Yes, right now we have just 2 reviews, but we are not giving up. We keep moving forward and when one gets discouraged the other is always there to give words of encouragement. We are Smith & Stone, and we know that one day our hard work will pay off. Is this easy? No this is not easy, and we know that most books end up in the publishing graveyard. We are determined because this is all we want to do. There is nothing that can make us give up because we have a purpose, and we have each other.
Our advice to new publishers is never give up and who knows the journey might become an interesting story that you need to write to encourage others.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes
When Smith & Stone ends a conversation on the phone we don’t say goodbye we say …to be continued and write on ….LOL it’s just our silly thing that keeps us going.
I the Stone must have a clean house before I sit down to write. My sister writes with soft instrumental music that I can sometimes hear on the phone. It can be distracting so I kindly tell her please turn down the music, please. LOL… she does

What authors, or books have influenced you?
All authors influence us. The author of ‘Clan of the Cave Bear” is my hero!

What are you working on now?
A Tucson Arizona Dog Park Book

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Not sure but we are still learning. We will try Amazon ads

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up. This is not easy so try to find a person that has a writing passion for support. We know that there are so many people that will tell you “Why are you writing that when you can look it up online” Don’t follow dream crushers and stay away from “crabs in a bucket” people that will try to pull you down when you want to be set free.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stay away from toxic people that want to crush your dreams

What are you reading now?
Lots of advice online from seasoned authors

What’s next for you as a writer?
Our next book to be published in about 3 weeks. Then our first book in series coming out in late 2022.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
All the books in the “Clan of the Cave Bear” Series would be a must so I can read it all over again

Kay Knolls

Interview With Author Kay Knolls

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I love writing steamy, emotional romances that deliver all the “feels”. As of September 2022, I’ve written 2 books: Love Worth Having and Falling For The Nanny.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Falling For The Nanny is my latest. It’s a holiday romance and it was inspired by the season of Christmas.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write best after 10 pm at night. Not good when I hit my flow at around 1 in the morning. I usually skip sleep and keep writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been influenced by all the greats – Nora Roberts, Linda Howard, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, Katherine Stone, and most recently Christine Feehan.

What are you working on now?
I’m busy working on my Love’s Worth series as well as a new standalone steamy romance featuring, what else, a billionaire! 🙂

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m a newbie and tend to stick to Facebook. I’m only learning now how to branch out to other promo sites like Awesome Gang, AllAuthor.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t sweat about getting it perfect, just get it written. You can edit later.

What are you reading now?
Skye Warren and Amelia Wilde.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing! I’ve set a personal goal of telling all the stories running around in my head. It’s quite a lot. LOL. So, more writing for me.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hm, this is a tough one. I would be rebellious and fight to bring my kindle instead, so I could have more than 3 to 4 books. It’s tough to choose! Seriously, there are so many great books by so many awesome authors, how could I narrow it down?

The Intensity Method is my first book. I was born and raised in Southeast Michigan. I currently reside in South Lyon, MI. I am married with two amazing step-children. I have a one-year-dog Sofie, the car sick Rottweiler. I am the youngest of 5 boys.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Intensity Method was inspired by the years of studying the self-help industry and condensing the lessons to a simple page or two. I have a self-proclaimed short attention span and always have been challenged by longer books My goal was to offer the same lessons but in a concise manner.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write on Google docs so I can write anytime or anywhere I get an idea. I have the Google Docs on my phone just for those occasions. Some of my best writing comes out of a quick conversation and I try to capture at minimum the concept. I also enjoy writing at night and in coffee shops.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mark Manson, Robert Greene, Richard Bach, John Grisham, Tony Robbins and Mel Robbins come to mind. All for different reasons.

What are you working on now?
The Intensity Method 2, the science and art of failure.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m just learning and studying the marketing side of the business. I have had the most success with Awesome Gang.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
For me it was grabbing a whole bunch of random ideas and concepts and writing them down. Then identify a story, personal or otherwise, and create the writing from there.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It is one small step at a time. You can’t have great success without small failures. So start failing today.

What are you reading now?

Justin Coleman

Interview With Author Justin Coleman

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I began my journey into the online marketing world in 2016. I had just graduated online with my MBA, and was going to be having a kid later that year. Needless to say I was freaking out a big with all of the bills heading my way. I began frantically Googling ways to make money online. My path eventually led me to affiliate marketing and sales funnels. I spent my business’ last $600 on a program called Funnelytics. Since I didn’t really have my own product at the time, and needed money, I saw they had an affiliate program and decided to sell their SaaS for them. Luckily I was able to earn my money back and stay afloat, and was thrust into the exciting world of affiliate marketing. I decided to write a book about it when I passed the $10,000 threshold. Like “hey, I actually accomplished something here, and I’m sure other people out there will want to as well”. First I developed the workbook that goes along with my most recently published book (yeah, this was a little bit backwards of me, but I really wanted to publish something at the beginning of this year, and the workbook was quick). That was my first official published book. Now I have 2.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called “Master Affiliate Marketing to $10k”. In 2018 I was looking at GoDaddy Auctions trying to find a better name for my blog, because no one was getting “Fruitless Productivity”. Instead of trying to be clever I decided I needed to be more practical, and stumbled upon the domain mastersalesfunnels.com for $12. I bought that, forwarded all of my posts to the new domain, and never looked back. In studying what to name courses and books, I learned that it’s smart to have a similar naming convention within your series. That’s where the word “Master” derived from, and I’m going to roll with it in this book and future books in this series.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wrote the bulk of this book by speaking to my phone in my car on my commute to work. I had the audio files transcribed, and that’s how the very first draft of the book took shape.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I started my sales funnel journey with Russell Brunson and “DotCom Secrets”. I know a lot of us marketers out there have. I also read a lot of Dana Derricks’ books. His “One Week Author” gave me the idea for speaking out my book and having it transcribed. Helps get things out of your brain on a busy schedule.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working to promote “Master Affiliate Marketing to $10k”. I’m also working to strengthen the course + community that goes along with the book. I’m trying to deliver as much value as I can while still trying to make money to support what I’m doing.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve been running Amazon Ads and TikTok ads lately. Also hitting friends and family on Facebook. I have some newsletters and features coming out this coming weekend, and am also planning to send out free copies to book review sites. Hoping all of that helps get the book out to as many people as I possibly can that are interested in learning how to make money online. It’s free on Kindle this weekend, so really just trying to get the message out there.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you’re a new author, you just have to get the draft out there. It’s easy to get caught up in your own mind and not produce any work. Get the draft out there and fix it up in the edits.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Real Artists Ship. – Steve Jobs.
If you never launch what you are working on, there is no feedback loop to make improvements, and you won’t impact anyone. Shine light on your work, it doesn’t have to be perfect.

What are you reading now?
8 Second PR. PR is a skillset that I really need to work on developing, so taking a deep dive to help promote my book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m either going to work on the sequel to “Master Affiliate Marketing to $10k”, or there is a public domain book about sales I want to bring into the modern era. Once promotion for this book dies down, I’ll see where my interests take me first.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Something on how to build a boat.
Something on survival.
And probably the last 2 Harry Potter books. They are long and I would need some entertainment while the tree sap sealant was drying on the boat.

Seth Hobbs

Interview With Author Seth Hobbs

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have published my first book, A Sword of the Three Rivers, but I wrote it years ago. I am currently working on finishing more books in the series, The Sendyne Empire Series. I am a teacher, gamer, musician, husband and father, and a comedian who should never quit his day job!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“A Sword of the Three Rivers.” I was inspired by countless things to write this first book in my series. Everything from personal health issues and trials of life, watching great epics like Spartacus or Braveheart, and just really wanting to express myself and explore the worlds I create.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nothing too crazy I guess.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Tolkien, and later George R.R. Martin, although I started writing much of this book before Game of Thrones became so famous to wider audiences. I was unaware of Martin until the shows came out later. Louis L’Amour had a lot of adventurous Westerns I liked. Sir Walter Scott, Hemingway, Orwell, and countless others.

What are you working on now?
My Sendyne Empire series. I am excited to unleash much more in the world I created in the first book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Not sure yet, as I am very new to the game! I am working hard all over the place.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Pursue your passion, even it sells just one or two copies! Music, writing, and art are bigger than money!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Everything worth doing takes effort!

What are you reading now?
A book about the Balkans that explains its complicated and turbulent history.

What’s next for you as a writer?

Rae Blair

Interview With Author Rae Blair

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
After a lifetime of devouring books and wanting to be an author, my life was consumed with raising a family and building a career, and I never felt I had the creative energy to commit to writing a book. But as my family grew, I found myself with the space to commit. And commit I did! I published my first book in 2022 after starting it in 2019. In sitting down to write the first pages, and receiving feedback, it soon became evident that although I had a career as an editor in the corporate and science sectors, writing fiction required very different skills. Skills I didn’t yet have. So, I paused work on my novel and set about learning the craft of writing fiction–learning (and sometimes joyously breaking) the rules and tenets that I applied to this novel. Learning the craft of writing fiction is a lifelong endeavour, and I’m loving every minute of it.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
‘More Than I Ever Had’ is based on the true story of my husband’s four-times Great Grandfather, who came to Australia as part of the Second Fleet in 1790. I’m a genealogy enthusiast, and after discovering information about Theophilus Feutrill, I started digging deeper, as I wanted to understand the ‘whys’ behind the decisions that he made. As the details of his incredible life unfolded before me, I felt compelled to share his story and contribute it to the understanding of Australia’s early European settlement history.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m at my best at 6:00 am with a cup of tea, when the household has yet to wake, and the possibilities of the day are still ahead of me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Although I don’t write in the horror genre, I have to list Stephen King. I’ve read many of his books, but his book ‘On Writing’ is inspirational for me as a writer, as is Benjamin Percy’s ‘Thrill me’. I have a soft spot for Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Louis de Bernieres and Salman Rushdie, and adored Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’ and George Sanders’ ‘Lincoln in the Bardo’ for pushing creative boundaries. Liane Moriaty rounds off my list as a master of character development.

What are you working on now?
I’m writing a contemporary women’s fiction novel which I started during NaNoWriMo in November 2021. It’s about two real estate agents who sell properties on Sydney’s exclusive lower north shore, what obstacles they face in trying to ‘have it all’, and how Sydney’s property market really is murder.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Authors need a strategic mix of avenues to promote their book, which works like a layering effect…each layer strengthening the other to create a solid platform. There’s no doubting an active social media presence is essential.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be persistent in getting words down, and be active and open in seeking feedback from the right people.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
See the progress and success of other authors as inspiration, rather than as a sign that you aren’t good enough.

What are you reading now?
‘Thrill Me’ by Benjamin Percy — essential reading for any author.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue to seek avenues to promote my published book, and secure the right option to publish my next book.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I have fifty books in my Top Ten Books of All Time, so it is impossible for me to just choose three or four.

Dipesh Hirlekar

Interview With Author Dipesh Hirlekar

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a person who loves to do a lot of things altogether. I have published two mystery thriller books. I’m also looking to test out other genres in the near future. If you ask me what made me get into this world of stories… It all started when I was preparing for my first short film script but due to some difficulties that occurred suddenly, I wasn’t able to move forward with that project. I was kinda thinking of posting my story one way or another, if I can’t shoot it then I will present it in some different form. Later I landed on the idea of presenting my stories as books and e-books and that’s how all this began.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest work is “Her Last Dinner” and it’s available on both Amazon & Flipkart. The book is available in two different forms i.e E-book version and the saddleback paperback version.
Actually, I got the inspiration for this book from the things that happened in my life, I haven’t exactly gone through the same thing completely but you can say I know the gist of it. Other than that, I have also got inspired by a lot of people’s stories that I usually read from Quora.com. There are so many people out there expressing their hearts and it makes me feel a bit comfortable with the fact that at least they all are willing to let it all out on such platforms.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have any per se… but whenever I start working on a story, I make sure that I’m giving the story 100% attention. To elaborate on that, I make sure that I’m lost in that world of my story to understand more and get further ideas to make it better. I don’t even binge-watch for days/weeks if I’m working on my next project. I just love to get lost in that fictional world and just live through it fully.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Maybe I will be judged if I say I don’t read books, I just don’t enjoy reading books. Yet, I’m an author who has published two books and it sounds a bit odd, right?

What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m not working on anything but I’m planning to work on my next work at the start of 2023.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m an upcoming author and a beginner who’s still learning a lot every day. If we are talking about promoting the work then I think social media and promoting books by telling your close ones is still the foremost thing to do. Other than that I have a few sites where I upload articles, stories, and forms to promote my book on their platform.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep writing, write as many new storylines, think and plan new characters, and try to come up with new ideas for your work. A reader wants to read something different from his/her previous book and it’s our job to be creative with new stories.
Also, one more thing… write many stories but don’t publish all of them. There will be a few stories that will be so good as an idea, new and fresh but the problem arises when we think we should post them immediately. I feel we can improve those same stories by practicing more and more, we can be more creative by getting inspired by someone else’s work. So, make sure you keep some stories to yourself, work on them, improve them, and then when you feel the time is right… go ahead and publish that piece of art.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There are a lot and I just can’t name one of them the best. Everyone goes through a lot in their life ranging from family issues, career blocks, personality crises, relationship problems, mental health issues and so much more. We tend to get different advice from others, maybe we get it a bit different from our friends, and family, and the thing I feel is right is that every piece of advice can be beneficial for us if we use it accordingly to different circumstances in our life.
The advice I got and I live by that principle is that just be yourself and you will be happy eventually.

What are you reading now?
Maybe I will be judged if I say I don’t read books, I just don’t enjoy reading books. Yet, I’m an author who has published two books and it sounds a bit odd, right?
Still, I would like to add that I’m a few books… but those are for my entrance exams… hehehe (awkward laugh).

What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, I feel there’s a lot that I want to try and experience. If you look at my work right now, you will see that both of my books are mystery/crime fiction. So, I’m thinking to work on a different genre… maybe romance because I have a few ideas for that genre too. I’m also thinking of making my both books available in audiobook format to make them available in more than just two formats.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would just bring 3-4 blank books and fill them up with the stories in my head. My imagination is running wild even now and nothing can make me more happy than writing new stories and exploring so many possible outcomes from my stories.

Wade Gustafson

Interview With Author Wade Gustafson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Wade Gustafson is a Colorado native who spent 20 years living in Texas and traveling throughout the United States before returning to his home town of Loveland. During his early adulthood, Wade developed and authored text-based video games accessible to the visually impaired. Over the years he has dabbled in the video game industry working on titles such as NBA Jam Tournament Edition developed by Midway Games and a yet to be announced title by AAA game studio, Sharkmob, creators of Vampire: The Masquerade, Bloodhunt.

Wade’s love for world creation came to fruition with his debut novel, “Crowe”, which is the first book in the Subterranea Saga of novels. “Crowe” is available in paperback, for Kindle, and as an Audible audiobook narrated by professional voice actor, Stockton Harris. The Subterranea Saga continues in book two, “Claudia”, which will be released simultaneously in print and on Audible in the fourth quarter of 2022. Wade has also written several screenplays, which have been produced as short films and been awarded honors at film festivals. His first and only stage play was produced and performed live at a Texas theater.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’ve been fortunate to team up with narrator Stockton Harris, who records the Audible versions of my novels. Not only that, but when I write a chapter I send that over to Stockton and get back the recorded version in a day or so. This means I get to actively listen to my stories as I write them, and that is just an incredible source of continued inspiration.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite book is “Earth Abides” by George Stewart. I listen to a lot of audiobooks these days, with Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child, Tess Gerritsen, and Anne Rice being some of my go-to authors.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the final chapters of “Claudia”, which is book two of the Subterranea saga.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have no idea, I’m no good at that part. Mostly, my sales have come from word of mouth reaching all the way back to the first people I strongarmed into reading my work. I rely a lot on good reviews, so please take some time to tell others about my books and review them anywhere you see the option to do so!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stop planning your book, and just write it! You can go back and make it perfect later, but for now, start putting pages behind hyou.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Once is never, twice is always.

What are you reading now?
Blood and Gold, by Anne Rice.

What’s next for you as a writer?

Earth Abides, Moby Dick, and any one of those “desert island survival guidebooks”. 🙂

The inspiration for this book is all about the attributes of Divine Mercy. For example, did you know that mercy is kind? You do not choose to be kind or unkind. Your kindness comes from the sweetness within.

Here’s another excellent example. Sometimes, we do not need to forgive. Sometimes we just need to be kinder to ourselves. Did you know that being kinder to yourself is a form of forgiveness?

Matthew Paris

Interview With Author Matthew Paris

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. As a kid I never thought about writing. I was more of a sports kid. I played football and ran track. I didn’t realize I had a talent in this until my sophomore year of high school. My English teacher came up to me and put an A paper on my desk. She leaned over and said; Matt, I think you have a talent in this and you should explore this. I didn’t really get serious about writing until college. I attended Texas Tech University and they have a great English department. I graduated and begin writing screenplays. I’ve written several short films that have been shown over three continents. It was the United States, Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

I was contributing articles at The Sports Column when I decided I want to write a book. I’ve written three sports books because I’m a sports coach in Houston. I coach soccer and basketball. The other book I wrote has nothing to do with sports. It’s called The Passing of Time and is very much a spiritual book. I enjoy writing about all kinds of subjects.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called, “The Passing of Time”. It’s very much a spiritual book and has a lot to do with motivation and how do you handle problems in a positive manner. Life is a roller coaster ride. There are many ups and downs. But, you have to deal with it and get through it. How do you handle your problems in a positive manner? It’s all a mind set.

I’m a coach and mentor so I’ve seen and heard a lot of problems from my young athletes. In the worst situation you have to stay positive because there’s an answer to everything.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Most people like to set a time to write. I usually write when I feel inspired. If I think of a story I might sit down for an hour or two and flesh out the plot and characters. If I write at night, I’m a little more tired and my mind wonders. I might right something that is totally out of the blue and not have anything to do with the story. I’m more alert and write better when I have energy.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
They’re many authors that inspire me. Stephen King, Richard Matheson, Chuck Palahniuk, to name a few. My favorite book is “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson. A great book that deals with the loneliness and struggles of the main character Robert Neville. That book checks all the boxes on what a person is feeling even in a post apocalyptic world that the book is set.

What are you working on now?
I’m writing a book called, “Runners on The Storm”. It’s my first novel. It’s about. group of troubled youth who start a running club with the local small town coach. These group pf boys get put in a group home where they can learn and deal with their emotions. They find that running is a peaceful and zen like atmosphere in the doing of it. They end up starting their own team and run all the way to the state championship.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like using basic social media pages like Twitter, and Facebook. I tend to share the Amazon pages with a lot of my friends and try to promote word of mouth. You could have your own website, but might have to pay the servers. Sometimes entering a book contest is another way to get the word out. However, word of mouth is the best marketing.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best advice I can give is just to keep writing. Take some time out and write what you are thinking and feeling. Also, feel good about what you have written. I know a lot of writers who will get far in the process and then trash it. Remember, always feel good about what you write. If you Geel it’s not good enough that’s the kiss of death. Always be confident about what you put down on paper.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be motivated and confident no matter what you are doing. You may win some and lose some, but you keep moving forward. That also applies to writing.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading “GreenLights” by Matthew McConaughey. it’s a great memoir about a man who had it tough in his childhood years in Texas. He worked hard and became a very successful actor and Oscar winner.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll keep contributing sports articles to The Sports Column and I’ll finished my novel, “Runners on The Storm.” There are many things that are looking bright down the road.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring I Am Legend, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, and Salem’s Lot. I would be in literature paradise.

S.R. Johnson

Interview With Author S.R. Johnson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a mother and a wife. My youngest child is autistic, and my oldest child has ADHD and anxiety. I help my mother and brother out, along with raising my children. My husband is my rock, he works two jobs, so I don’t have to stress about work. So, I have started to write in my free time and currently have two books published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Finding Love and Keeping Love are books one and two in the Finding Love series. Finding Love is a complete rewrite of the original, which is no longer available. The original started as a fantasy about my relationship with my husband, and the rewrite is about Love, romance, domination, and submission. My fantasies came alive during the rewrite, which is why there was a second book to the series when the original book was standalone.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t believe I do

What authors, or books have influenced you?
This man series by Jodi Ellen Malpas
The Crossfire series by Sylvia Day
The Breathless series by Maya Banks
The Fixed Trilogy by Laurelin Paige

What are you working on now?
I’m working on the third and final book of the finding love series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I post my books on social media, but other than that, I haven’t promoted any of my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
As one of my favorite authors has said, ‘don’t give up.’ Writing is a challenge and takes time, but if you keep writing one day, it will pay off.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Writing what you know is good advice, but the second piece that has helped me is reading the genre you write in. I read a lot of Romance novels, and I write about Romance.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading the Granite Lake Wolves by Vivian Arend

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have ideas for new books and will continue to write.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That isn’t easy to decide. I have so many books I love but does my E-reader count as one book cause I would probably bring that?
Seriously though, I would bring either books written by Jodi Ellen Malpas or Sylvia Day.

Chad Miller

Interview With Author Chad Miller

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a pharmacist who is originally from Philly. I live with my girlfriend Natasha, her daughter Sasha, and my daughters Willow and Halina. I’ve been writing for over 25 years. This past May I put out a collection of 15 Horror stories, called The Void. My debut novel, The Prisoner of Fear will come out on 10/01/2022

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My novel is titled, The Prisoner of Fear. The main moral is confronting, recognizing, and accepting your fears. The book is heavily inspired by the works of Brahm Stoker and Arthur Conan Doyle. It is told in the epistolary style much like Dracula and is centered around the mystery of a girl who transformed into an abomination. I wanted to show the side of the caretaker of such a monster and see the amoral choices they’re faced with in order to keep the monster alive and safe.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Working full-time and being a single dad, time is the hardest part of writing for me. I often write late at night when everyone is asleep. It’s quiet, dark, and creepy. It’s the perfect environment to write horror.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to name. Here we go. Stoker and Dracula. Doyle and The Valley of Fear. Dumas and The Count of Monte Cristo. Vonnegut and Cat’s Cradle. King and the Green Mile. Thompson and Gear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird. And much, much more.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a series of 3 novellas titled Cerberus. It’s a cross between Greek mythology and a spaghetti Western. All of the characters are based on Greek Gods and figures. I throw them all into an arena and watch them fight.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social media is a great outlet to reach audiences. I’m active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Goodreads. I’m also active on my website: www.chadmiller-author.com and blog at least once a week.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write and never give up. Trust your gut, but be open to criticism and advice. Also, don’t ignore the marketing side of things. Even though it might not be our strength, we still can use creativity to grow our brand. More than ever, it’s important for authors to participate in building our success.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To drop out of pharmacy school, move to France, and become a writer full time. In pharmacy school, I took a bunch of creative writing courses and my professor gave me this advice. I didn’t follow it, as I had to pay the bill and my school loans and pharmacy helped with this. This advice gave me confidence and I knew I worked in pharmacy, but I am a writer.

What are you reading now?
Deadeye Dick by Kurt Vonnegut. It’s about a pharmacist who’s a writer…like me! That’s where the similarities end as the MC is also a murderer. I can read Vonnegut all day long. He’s an absurdist writer who grounds you with emotion and humor.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will write until I die. I recently traveled To Falls River, Mass., and stayed overnight at the Lizzie Borden House. My next work will be a loose alliteration of her tale. It will be titled, Confession.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Dracula, Count of Monte Cristo, To Kill a Mockingbird, the collective works of Sherlock Holmes

Shamiso M. Lezard

Interview With Author Shamiso M. Lezard

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an Author from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, with a passion for the Arts. As my day job, I’m a Social Media Manager and Brand Consultant.
I’ve written and published one book so far, with many, many more in the pipeline, and I’m always so excited about every project I work on. My poem titled, “I Saw An Ad Today,” will be published in the University of Indiana’s press journal, The Global South, Edition 16.1, an accomplishment I’m thrilled about. I also have a really keen interest in the culinary arts…because food is happiness.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, which just so happens to be my debut novel, is titled, “The Lost Cantrell.” It’s a Women’s Mystery/Crime Fiction novel published by The Wild Rose Press. I really wanted to create an entertaining read that contained inspiring messages, too. I believe I’ve done that with “The Lost Cantrell.” It has everything from suspense to twists, which are some of my favourite things in books and film.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. But, I can write anywhere! Literally, anywhere. When an idea pops into my head, I jot it down immediately. I’m always prepared to write.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are so many authors whose work I enjoyed growing up. If I had to pick a couple of my favourites, I’d say, S. E Hinton’s “The Outsiders”, “Nothing Lasts Forever” by Sidney Sheldon, and “English Ivy” by Catherine Palmer. But that’s just a few. There are so many more.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a suspense novel. I’m really excited about this one. But I won’t give anything away just yet.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Any Author will tell you that book promotion can be a real pain. It’s not easy at all. But I’ve found that there are supportive groups and communities on Facebook and Twitter. Also, I use my website (www.shamisolezard.co.zw) to promote. Building an Author brand is the key.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would advise new authors to be headstrong with their writing. Write the story that you want to write. Your work will not be loved by everyone and that’s okay. Also, if you can’t handle bad reviews, don’t read them. Responding harshly to your readers or to reviewers is not a good look and it’s not professional. Remember that art is subjective.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
In terms of writing advice, the best advice I’ve seen is to just keep writing. If you want to write, write. Don’t let anything or anyone discourage you from putting good, even great, work out there.

What are you reading now?
Oh, gosh! I haven’t had as much time as I’d like to read lately, since it was my debut year. But I definitely want to get back into reading and support other Authors’ works.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to keep writing and keep building worlds. It’s so much fun and something that I want to do full time.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Haha, what a dreadful scenario! But I would take The Bible with me, definitely. In relation to any others, I wouldn’t be able to choose just three. If I really had to, then probably the three books I mentioned before: “The Outsiders”, “English Ivy”, and, “Nothing Lasts Forever.” Those are my 4 picks.

Jeremy Janus

Interview With Author Jeremy Janus

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I wrote my first book last year and published it in March of 2022. I have proofs of my second book coming to me right now and it should be published sometime in October.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first and newest book is called “Intimate Isolation: A Photographic Journey Through Nature” and it was inspired by my photographic journey in life. I wanted something special to commemorate my first 5 years in photography in 2021 so I decided to produce this book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to sit down and write as much as I possibly can while I am inspired. Inspiration can be waning so I try to take advantage of it as much as possible.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am influenced daily by other photographers and authors. I read quite a bit and I love content by Jordan Peterson, Simon Sinek, and Bob Buford to name a few.

What are you working on now?
My second book “Colorado Through the Seasons: A Photographic Journey Through the Rocky Mountains” is in the final proof stage right now. It is a book to commemorate the 35 piece solo exhibit that I have hanging in the Denver International Airport until the end of 2022. It follows Colorado through the seasons of winter, spring, summer, and fall and has pictures from all over the state.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For me personally it has been libraries. I love being a part of the community and I have been able to teach courses, do a number of talks on my book, as well as book signings in the Colorado community which I have loved immensely.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just do it. If you spend time thinking about the process, publishing, marketing, etc. it will become overwhelming and you’ll never start. You have to take the first step to be great at anything, and you will be great at nothing if you never take the leap into the unknown.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you want to change the world, change yourself first.

What are you reading now?
12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson. I took a bit of a hiatus from reading for a while so I’m getting back into it with one of my favorite books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am going to develop a passion project of mine which is a book on storms. I took my first lightning shot in 2019 and I have been hooked ever since. One of my most famous photos is a lightning shot I took in 2020 that has won 6 awards and has been exhibited in about 40 galleries and exhibitions including the Atlanta International Airport. Storms are near and dear to my heart and sharing their beauty will bring me great joy!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson
Start With Why by Simon Sinek
Halftime by Bob Buford
Quiet by Susan Cain

Raymond Parish

Interview With Author Raymond Parish

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
After four books in the nonfiction, mental health field I refashioned myself as a novelist in my Hank Anderson Thriller series. My first, the well received Overnight Delivery, was released in 2020. This week I released Book 2, The Mighty Shall Fall.
My mental health work these days is primarily as an educator and writer. I continue to write nonfiction and will have an article published in Coping with Cancer Magazine this fall: Cancer Survivorship and The New Retirement.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Mighty Shall Fall: A Hank Anderson Thriller. The Hank Anderson series was inspired by my desire to create the story of a determined individual whose life mission to help those in need repeatedly collides with his life-long attraction to risk. Having spent my own life living in various Midwestern states, I continued to use Iowa as the central setting for Book 2. The second book was set in motion by my interest in the influence of shadowy groups on vulnerable individuals. Hank is a psychotherapist whose – as my cover endorsement states – “insatiable curiosity, big-heart, and psychological savvy takes him down yet another dark rabbit hole.”
Below is the blurb:
Hank Anderson is stuck in the aftermath of the tragic life of Kenny Jensen when Seth Oberstreet is dropped at the door of Anderson & Greenberg Counseling, hundreds of miles from home. In moments, the speed and trajectory of Hank’s recovery is up for grabs. As Seth’s story unfolds, Hank’s mission to protect the vulnerable collides with his compulsion to solve complex human puzzles. Disoriented, on the edge of collapse, Seth has come under the influence of The Scholars of Calm – a secretive spiritual movement led by self-proclaimed guru, Taranis Tyr.
Why did this sect step out of the shadows now? And why choose Hank?
Hank needs backup. That’s before Seth disappears. Detective Phil Evans answers the call, setting in motion a desperate search that places them all in the sights of those who value death over truth, while forcing Phil to confront his own long-buried trauma.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My home backs to a wooded area and creek. I love to write outdoors, allowing myself time to stop, listen to bird calls, and watch the squirrels race around the yard.
There is a great deal of discussion in fiction about working from an outline, or not, when creating a novel. I do not. I start with the characters and a premise. After considerable time I am absolutely convinced that this results in more plot gaps to be filled in future drafts, a greater number of rewrites, and more complex editing. More work. And yet, it has become my style, and comfortable, to have the characters lead me rather than the other way around.
Writing for me is meditative. The outside world goes away; I am engrossed in the characters and entertained by the story. It is in the hours between writing that I touch the hope readers will be engrossed and entertained.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My dad set in motion my interest in reading mystery and thriller series at an early age. I started with the Hardy Boys and moved to the standards: Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle, Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler (whose writing inspired part of my pen name). I was an apt reader of O. Henry as an adolescent. His humor, alongside the ironies and pain of daily life, is a significant influence in how I develop my characters and narratives. I re-read the George Chesbro Mongo the Magnificent series to remind me that the rules of writing can be shaped-shifted. His work had aspects of mystery, thriller, horror, fantasy, and genres I’m not even aware of.
I am also deeply influenced by nonfiction authors. Books like Man’s Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl and Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt are as riveting as the most important classics in fiction.
For the Hank Anderson series, I was particularly inspired by the autobiographies of Bruce Springsteen and the sadly deceased sax player for his E-Street Band, The Big Man, Clarence Clemons. The energy of their friendship was a catalyst for me to create the relationship between Hank and Detective Phil Evans, key to Book 1 and central to Book 2.

What are you working on now?
In addition to promoting The Mighty Shall Fall, I’m working on Book 3, tentatively titled The Last Step. The core of this story will be the predicament that befalls Hank’s business partner and mentor, Dennis Greenberg, the premier addictions counselor in Des Moines, Iowa. Readers who are familiar with the Twelve Step approach to addiction will find key components of each book in the series that integrate recovery into the narrative, which inspired the title.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As an indie fiction writer, I have found sites like Awesome Gang to be invaluable in getting the word out to readers. Various Facebook groups that support writers have been another useful resource. I participate in a FB reader’s group, Fiction Fix, that connects me with writers and readers around the U.S. and Great Britain. It’s promotion, encouragement, and fun!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Ask yourself: Why do I write? My first editor once said, “For a social worker, you’re a good writer.” That was all the encouragement I needed to continue in nonfiction. My love for mystery series was all the push I needed to take the leap into fiction. Publications, royalties, positive reviews are a bonus. They have helped me in the business of writing. They have not made me, or most other writers, best selling authors. I believe everyone is creative. If you like to create with words…Enjoy the Process.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A well-known thriller author once finished a seminar I attended with, “I’m glad you came to my presentation today. However, if you’ve been telling yourself you don’t have time to write, you could have stayed home and written today.”

What are you reading now?
Like many avid readers, I often have several books going at the same time, blending nonfiction and fiction.
I’m a big fan of rock music history and am finishing the recent autobiography Time Between: My Life as a Byrd, Burrito Brother, and Beyond by Chris Hillman. Interesting story by an underappreciated musician who has been key to more than one pivotal band. I’ll be opening a Van Morrison biography next.
I regularly read nonfiction articles regarding cancer survivorship and the non-financial aspects of retirement, due to professional interest and teaching.
On the fiction side, I try to stay current with the C.J. Box Joe Pickett, Craig Johnson Longmire, and John Sandford Virgil Flowers series, three of my all-time favorites. As a Midwestern author, I find the authenticity of their rural characters particularly engaging. I’m starting the Sara Johnson Alexa Glock series – intriguing stories, great New Zealand setting. And, because I still love my Sherlock Holmes, I’ve gone back to read Caleb Carr’s 2005 The Italian Secretary.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to the mountains to hike and relax. Then, several upcoming book signings for The Mighty Shall Fall. My plan is to strike a balance between promotion and continuing to write. I also enjoy the occasional opportunity to be a beta reader for the work of close friends.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A Sherlock Holmes anthology
Man’s Search for Meaning
Wilderness Survival for Dummies
A Douglas Adams anthology

S.G. Blaise

Interview With Author S.G. Blaise

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in a faraway land of castles, monarchies, and fallen dictatorships, aka Hungary. Hollywood movies were largely forbidden under Soviet oppression during my childhood, but my dad smuggled them in any way, risking his life so that his children could experience the magic and hope inherent in those stories. I watched rebellions unfold in real-time and journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean for love. I ended up in sunny southern California, where I’m living my dream — writing stories and annoying family members.
Through my writing journey, I have published two novels within the Last Lumenian series, and the third in the series is set to release on December 6th, 2022!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is the third in the Last Lumenian Series, Proud Pada. Lilla is on her next mission as a Sybil to The Archgoddess of the Eternal Light and Order when she must travel to the Pada world following the trail of a ruthless murderer. Navigating deadly politics turns increasingly challenging as the Teryn emperor goes missing. Now the Teryn empire is heading toward civil war, and Lilla must uncover who is behind the conspiracy before it’s too late. Unfortunately, her success depends on the Proud Pada.

The inspiration for this book stems from wanting to develop my original idea of Lilla’s story further. At this point in her hero’s journey, Lilla is experiencing significant changes in her life by trying to understand her role in the Era War and better understanding herself and how her actions affect the people around her. Readers will experience a sci-fi fantasy action adventure unlike any they have experienced before!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
One of my most unusual writing habits is that I adore building lego sets when I need a break to organize my thoughts. I have found that when I need to reset my mind, keeping my hands busy and building lego sets has tremendously helped my writing process. It allows me to stay creative while not overthinking by giving myself time to think outside the box.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are many amazing authors who influenced me both professionally and as a reader. They include authors like Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, Ilona Andrews, Kim Harrison, Patricia Briggs, Danielle Steele, Sydney Sheldon, Robert Ludlum, Karen Marie Moning just to name a few.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on making the final touches to Proud Pada and preparing to write the next book in the series. It has been a pleasure to see where this series will go, and I think the readers will be elated with what is coming next.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
One of the most significant methods of promotion I have used for my book series is the Goodreads giveaway. Goodreads is a place where all readers can go to explore authors and their work so bringing the book directly to those who want to dive into their next adventure is the best possible route for every indie author.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best piece of advice I could provide to a new author is the importance of patience. Not knowing when the book would be ready to get published added a level of uncertainty that can be challenging to experience. When I stopped and took a deep breath and began embracing the journey rather than rushing, I learned to enjoy the process, and my focus shifted from the unknown to appreciating all the mini-accomplishments along the way. Everyone’s writing journey differs, don’t let that stop you from creating your own path.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve received is to follow your passion regardless of how much you know about it because there’s always more to learn. There is always a sense of fear in pursuing your dream due to feeling imposter syndrome and the worry that one is not advanced enough to reach their goal. Finding a way around those feelings and pushing through will lead to bringing your dreams a reality.

What are you reading now?
I am currently rereading Dune by Frank Herbert.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan on continuing to work on the Last Lumenian Series and bring other aspects of that story to life through comic books and other forms of writing. I can’t wait for the readers to see what I have in store for them!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were stranded on a desert island and could only select 3 to 4 books to bring with me, I would have to take one of Ilana Andrews’ books, one of Brandon Sanderson’s novels, and a survival book. Two for an escape from reality and one to help me survive as long as I can.

Harley M Cranston

Interview With Author Harley M Cranston

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live. In Southern California and since 2008 I have 7 published novels and novellas including 2 contemporary novels, 3 fantasy I guess you could call them, and two science fiction paranormal romance novels. They are all sexy, graphically descriptive with being crossing the line into erotica territory.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My newest book, available October 1, 2022, is Under a Tropical Moon. It is available for preorder right now, however. Inspiration? This written in collaboration with my friend and colleague C J Reed. We were messaging back and forth one day, discussing what we would do and what we would like if we spent a couple weeks at a Tropical Island Resort. Some of it was and some to be expected. I don’t quite remember where the vampires came into it but it grew from there. It did take some time to finish and then life got in the way and more years passed before we took the plunge and published it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if they’re unusual, except one thing. It might horrify other writers so that will be last thing. I write longhand, yeah on paper, the entire first draft before editing (except crossing misspellings) and on the second draft I edit as I type it into a Word file with minimal formatting. A third run through corrects typos, rewrites parts I don’t like and adds or deletes any thing the characters want added or deleted. They are quite vocal in their demands. Now, horrifying, to other writer, … I don’t use an outline, at all, for any fiction project. They don’t work for me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite books come from Stephen King. One thing he did influence was detail, the level of detail to create not just the scene, but atmosphere. I can see, feel it, experience it with all senses. I’m pretty sure I fall far short of his mark, but the devil is in the details. It’s just not enough to say it was scary. Other favorites include Christine Feehan, her Carpathians in particular. I was reading the series when we got into this idea. Maybe that’s where the vampires came from.

What are you working on now?
Now? I am writing the third Psychorp book, which brings together the first two books and is supposed to set the stage for the Psychic Wars universe… For those unaware, The Psychics of Psychorp series has two titles, Psychic Reunion, and Psychic Alliance, Psychic Rebellion, my current WIP, rounds out the trilogy.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have never had much luck there, or maybe it was lack of knowledge, skill, and patience. I’m using several sites to start this promotion, by the way, and I’ve gone to several sites, David Gaughran’s site was enormously helpful. I have to give him kudos. He has an awesome free course, From Zero to Hero, to learn self-publishing and marketing. I don’t know yet what will work best but I’ll certainly let you know!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yeah, don’t give up no matter how many times you cry in your wine. And take David’s course. It’s free and knowledgeable. Enough shameless plug for another writer. He has no idea and didn’t ask. It did help me a lot. Other advise? Write the story your characters are telling. Mine are very vocal and they don’t shut up up until the final word of the final draft is typed. That silence tells me I’m finished. If you do use an outline, put some flexibility in it. Things change, one idea leads to another and a short story becomes a novel. Don’t sell yourself short. No one gets right on the first shot. That’s why I believe in reincarnation…no human ever gets it right the first time.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My father… he told me once that “you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to and you can do anything you want to do”. I forget the context but it was right after I graduated college and was headed into Army. To me that meant. The only thing holding you back is you. Make a decision, right or wrong, don’t sit on the fence. Gets uncomfortable. Yes, there are consequences but you deal with that and go on to the next thing. Persistence…no, stubbornness pays off.

What are you reading now?
Rereading. The Stand, when I’m not writing or promoting, which takes how since I’ve never really done it before. My TBR pile is so high it needs one more book to wedge against ceiling so it doesn’t topple over!

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing Psychic Rebellion, and the second Writers and Vampires book. It’s another series, more of a collection of similar stories. And I’ve given a lot of thought to screen writing. I have ideas for a crime drama that would be a great series…not you usual cops and bad guys and lawyer shows but based on a real person doing some real things. No details. I’m not sure I can even pull it off.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A survival text, maybe two, my favorite novel, the one that cemented my love of science fiction, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engel, and a 4 inch at least three ring notebook full of blank paper. I would still need to write.
