Nathaniel Wrey

Interview With Author Nathaniel Wrey

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a UK-based writer and have published one book for adults, Liberty Bound, and one for children, Mooge, the Prehistoric Genius. The common theme is drawing from history to create fictional adventures and viewpoints through interesting characters.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book for adults is Liberty Bound, an action-packed adventure set in the distant future at the end of civilisation. It is an allegorical tale inspired by observations on the way fear and ignorance inhibit our freedoms in the modern world.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
While I plan out the structures of my books, I very much believe in the natural growth of characters and storyline as I ‘live out’ the narrative during writing. Just as in the real world, life involves too many variables to know precisely what is going to happen next and characters feel like they take on a life of their own during writing, leading the story in directions the author hasn’t always planned for. As long as you stick to you main markers, let the story breathe.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read a range of fiction and non-fiction books, finding inspiration in both. George Orwell has been a big influence, drawing on social lessons to provide warnings on the future in 1984 and Animal Farm. The likes of Ray Bradbury and John Wyndham have been equally inspiring. Travel authors such as Paul Theroux are a wonderful source for understanding people and cultures and provide a natural template for adventure with their undetermined outcomes and encounters. While there is no one better than John Steinbeck for character driven fiction and the nuances of life. I consume a lot of history books and there are no better or more thrilling stories than the ones found there.
With respect to my children’s book, look no further than Roald Dahl.

What are you working on now?
I am three-quarters of the way through writing the sequel to Liberty Bound, which will be called Where Liberty Lies. Many reviews for Liberty Bound ended with a request for a sequel. It may be taking a while as other projects distract, but it’s coming.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I think an author’s website is the best shop window for their work. It showcases something more than just your book and is the most personable way to connect with readers. Of course, you have to signpost people there and so a framework of promoting through different mediums is advised and ultimately you want to direct people to a place they’ll feel inspired to get a copy.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Only write about something that inspires you. You’ll need to draw upon willpower and determination along the way, so tapping into that source of inspiration will get you through the harder moments.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Lead characters need weaknesses as much as strengths. An all-conquering hero will come across as one-dimensional and unrealistic. As with everyone in life, our failures shape us just as much as our successes.

What are you reading now?
I have two books on the go at present. Paul Theroux’s On the Plain of Snakes, a Mexican road trip. Anxiety permeates each page as he explores the uneasy relationship of Mexico and its northern neighbour and the dangers of the cartels, the corrupt police and the poverty. There’s much to love of the country and its people, but fear and hardship burden hope.
My other distraction, of a lighter note, is Theme for Great Cities by Graeme Thomson, a history of the band Simple Minds. It’s a little pretentious and pompous at times but captures perfectly their artistic roots and the evolution of a changeling band still going strong today.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I need to build up my catalogue. It would be good to have a trilogy under my belt and conclude the saga begun with Liberty Bound and I’m keen to continue the wartime adventures of Jock Mitchell, hero of my novella, Triumphant Where it Dares Defy. I also want to do some more humorous rhyming historic tales for children in the mould of Mooge, The Prehistoric Genius. So much to do, so little time!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1984 by George Orwell, Byzantium by John Julius Norwich, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and From the Holy Mountain by William Dalrymple.

Carol Weakland

Interview With Author Carol Weakland

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, I am an author, actress, storyteller who talks to magical beings like Fairies, Dragons and Unicorns. I love spending time in Nature with animals, plants and trees. I write about Nature Magic in all of my books, including my newest offering: THE DRAGON’S BREATH BOOK. I have written and illustrated 2 Children’s Picture Books, 2 Young Adult Books, and a Romantic Fantasy Series called MORGEN OF AVALON, which is 3 books in totality. In addition, I have written and adapted numerous theatrical plays.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
THE DRAGON’S BREATH BOOK. I literally was visited by Dragons asking me to write the book. That was impetus enough for me. I had been writing about these proud, noble beings for many years in my Morgen of Avalon books. In addition, I also shoot videos about Dragons and their magic for my You Tube Channel: Carol Weakland Sacred Avalon.

Dragons have really been misrepresented on Film, TV and in some Books as well. In fact, a dragon’s breath is one of his most magical gifts. It doesn’t burn you to a crisp. Instead, when you step into a dragon’s breath you will feel invincible! They are here to help us navigate challenging times. Once again, Dragons are such magical beings.
When the Dragons speak, I listen!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to write outside in Nature in the shade of enormous trees, while the birds sing and the squirrels chatter. Nature inspires me beyond measure.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The most influential book of my life has to be Marian Zimmer Bradley’s THE MISTS OF AVALON. This book literally set in motion my twilight dreaming episode where I heard a spirit guide say in a decidedly feminine voice, “Return to Camelot.”
This was my marching order to begin writing the MORGEN OF AVALON series. I took me many years of life experience though, before I actually wrote a single word. I had to become an Energy Healer, study Shamanism and so much more!
Reading THE MISTS OF AVALON was step 1 in what would become a twenty plus year journey to complete the MORGEN OF AVALON series. It was well worth the trip

What are you working on now?
A book about Merlin and his Galactic Heritage as the Great Unifier of the Lyran Wars.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still learning this game of promotion. Until this point I sold my books at fairs and events. Now I have a publisher who understands the game, so I am approaching this book launch differently.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Follow your heart. It will always show you the truest path.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“I don’t think your book is finished yet.”

In other words, “Rewrite, rewrite, rewrite!”

What are you reading now?
Mastering Your 5 D Self by Maureen St. Germaine

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will definitely be writing more Children’s Books. Now that I am working with a publisher who is a Best-Selling Author, I will be republishing many of my early books using the promotional tools she has provided me.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Lord of the Rings Series.

Viera Landis

Interview With Author Viera Landis

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a single mother of four and have written and published nine books in the same bookverse, all in the last thirteen months!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Ace Out of Time (Ace’s Book to Get Out of Trouble). It was inspired by one of the characters introduced in the last book of the Lodestar Diaries series. One day, my daughter and I were driving along, talking about how much fun it would be if he was able to go back in time and see some of the other characters and have an adventure with them, so we decided to make it happen. And here I’d promised myself to never try writing a time travel book!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can’t think of any. I stay up writing in the middle of the night, but I don’t think that’s all that unusual for authors, especially when they have kids.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Marissa Meyer first inspired me to begin writing. My daughters and I attended a book signing where she told us she’d written Cinder as part of NaNoWriMo. We had just finished and loved the Lunar Chronicles and I thought, “If she can do that, so can I!” In fact, while they are totally different, the Lodestar Diaries series does follow the format of the Lunar Chronicles, in that they are both a 5-book series with multiple POVs, and each book focuses on a different set of characters, adding more as they go.

What are you working on now?
I have a few ideas on the back burner, but the main one I am working on right now is a Young Adult book about a zombie turned half-vampire who experiences an awakening, finds himself in a fantasy world with other magical creatures, and has to decide if he will stand on the side of good or evil. I think he is shaping up to become one of my favorite characters!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am trying to leverage social media and have accounts on Twitter, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, but I am trying to focus on my website, vieralandisbooks.com. I am adding a lot of short stories and other bonus content to expand the bookverse and make it fun for readers, and am just starting out with blogging. Hopefully I will be able to figure out the whole newsletter thing at some point in the near future, but I’m taking baby steps.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to write what you love, because if you don’t love writing it, no one will love reading it. Also, try not to be discouraged. It’s great to have a following before you publish, if possible, but if not, that’s okay, too. There are many paths to success, and many people out there to tell you theirs is the only right one. Just make your own path, and don’t give up!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Find joy in the journey.

What are you reading now?
I’m in the middle of the Priory of the Orange Tree, but had to put it on hold a little so I could finish publishing my completed works. I should be getting back to it soon.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will most likely be publishing my WIP in the next few months, so be on the lookout! I will also be running some promotions on existing books.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. Mrs. Mike, by Benedict and Nancy Freeman.
2. The House in the Cerulean Sea, by T.J. Klune.
3. A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens.
4. Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte.

Carolyn Dismuke

Interview With Author Carolyn Dismuke

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a California native that just self published my book Drink Your Words about the 25 months I lived in a different wine region of this big Golden State. I was a corporate city girl but the memoir is about how I transformed into a vineyard vagabond and appellation adventurist.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I earned a Level 3 Award in Wine from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, an international organization. After masting the classic European regions, I set out to learn more about my home state, experiencing the soils and climates first hand while interviewing some of the most creative characters that make the velvet nectar. My book Drink Your Words covers what was overlooked by the WSET and what you can learn beyond the classroom.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write in confined spaces. A library, a cabin in the woods with no internet or TV, even on the train. It works. I don’t know why.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Hemingway, Steinbeck, Stephen King, Angelou, and Robert Frost

What are you working on now?
Telling winemaking stories is fun. How people migrated to that career or were born into it is fascinating. Also, how winemakers cook with their wine is compelling because they are busy and certain not fancy yet they have sophisticated palates and unique techniques.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
HAH, if I knew that, my name would be as well known as Oprah or P!nk. I’m hoping this and my TikTok (#booktok) posts will reach savvy readers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do what you do best, using the help of others for the rest.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Let all you love drive you more than all you fear. Follow your passion despite your doubts.

What are you reading now?
Currently, I’m reading how to market books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Lots of fun ideas for my next book as I build a platform of savvy wine enthusiasts, road tripping mavericks, and adventure travel fans.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmm, is there a book about How To Get Off A Desert Island?! Probably poetry really. The complete works of Shakespeare (dramas poetry and all) would keep my mind interested. But I’m always entertained by Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises and Steinbeck’s Travels With Charlie.

Joshua Martin

Interview With Author Joshua Martin

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hey! Joshua Martin here. I’ve just published my second book, the terrifying anthology GHOSTS FROM THE RUINS. It’s my second published work. Last September I released my debut novel DEVIL’S HOLLOW. I’ve written, under a couple of different pen names for various horror and pop culture websites over the last decade and a half. I’ve also dabbled in screenwriting, including a killer remake of THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW. A couple of years ago I sat down to write yet another spec script and wound up writing DEVIL’S HOLLOW.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
GHOSTS FROM THE RUINS is an anthology and as I was writing and compiling the stories that would comprise the book I wasn’t really thinking about a theme or anything. But when it was done I noticed a very strong through line of death, coping, and grief. It was totally organic. Life’s weird like that sometimes.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I worry too much. I don’t think that’s unusual, but I worry about finding perfect words. I’m probably one of the few writers where thesaurus.com isn’t my friend. There are many times when I have to take a step back and remember it’s the story that people are going to remember – not if I use the word “many” or “plethora.” (it would be plethora 100 times out of 100 though)

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m mainly a horror guy, especially small towns are f’d up horror guy, so the only real answer is Stephen King. He’s literally, the King. Clive Barker, Peter Straub, Thomas Harris. I love Paul Tremblay and Grady Hendrix. Masters like Shirley Jackson and of course Poe. But in the end, it all comes back to King.

What are you working on now?
My next novel, hopefully out this winter is a dirty little serial killer story tentatively called ALL THE BODIES. It’s a tight little mystery, but not the kind you might be thinking it is.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The regular socials are all pretty good. Special shout out to Slasher, the social media app for horror. Reddit writing groups are a good place to develop a small group of writing “friends.” I do very little advertising, maybe an Amazon ad around release time. Interviews, like this always help.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Sure. A few things. First and foremost. Don’t rush something out. PROOFREAD until your eyes hurt. If you can afford it, hire an editor. Second, write every day. Writing is like anything else, the more you do it the better you are at it. Finally, don’t get down about not writing every day. Life happens. I have two small children. There are non-writing days. Like the song says, “get yourself up and get back in the race.”

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Read. Read different things. I tend to gravitate towards the horror genre, but I try to step out of that comfort zone at least 20 percent of the time. It makes yo a better story teller if you see how the other side does it.

What are you reading now?
I’m ping-ponging between The Silmarilion, Red Dragon, and Hero of Two Worlds – A biography of the Marquis de Lafayette

What’s next for you as a writer?
Full speed ahead on ALL THE BODIES

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Lord of the Rings (I’m counting that as 1). ‘Salem’s Lot. Red Dragon by Thomas Harris. The Lotter by Shirley Jackson

Wallace Briggs

Interview With Author Wallace Briggs

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Retired from a technical sales background, almost an octogenarian, I have now brought seven children’s books to market. Some of my stories were created forty years ago but early efforts to find an agent or publisher were fruitless. Once I retired I found I had the time to pursue self publishing with the aid of Amazon/Kindle.
Pat and I are celebrating fifty nine years of marriage in September, having first met when we were eleven years old, walking home from different schools. There was a six year break before circumstances brought us together again at the age of seventeen. After that, there was no holding us back, except our parents who did not approve of mixed faith (Catholic/Protestant) marriages. So had to wait until we were twenty-one before tying the knot. Its a tight knot which has held despite any onslaught.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“The Adventures of Jimmy Crikey: The Emerald Lake” is the fourth in a series. Originally. Jimmy was born out of necessity to entertain my son and his newfound beach friends during a showery family holiday. For the first time, I made up a story ‘on the hoof’, to entertain four rowdy youngsters crowded in the shelter of our beach tent. Jimmy Crikey’s adventures grew over the following days to meet demand whenever the rain came down. It would be many more years before they appeared in print

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I know there others like me who generally, pick up a pen and the words flow, usually.
In my fifth Jimmy adventure, I am trying to work to an outline. It is heavy going and restrictive but that’s the way the story must conclude.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Without a doubt Agatha Christie and the Far Away Tree was greatly enjoyed be my sons and me.

What are you working on now?
The fifth and possible last in the Jimmy Crikey series. Hopeing there will be enough gas in the tank for me to complete a memoir.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promotion sites on the Internet are my primary route to market with great affection for Literary Titan. Book Bub, Choosy Bookworm, my face book pages and a scattershot approach with other affordable promo sites.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Develop a thick skin. You can’t avoid disappointments along the way. Don’t let them get to you and keep on writing. Never stop trying. Don’t expect to make a fortune (or anything).

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep at it

What are you reading now?
When I finish the latest James Patterson (+a.n. other) there is a stack of Baldacci novels to start on.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I must finish Jade’s rise from mini to mighty witch in the Jimmy Crikey series. After which I have a half-finished memoir to tackle.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The bible
The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire
An encyclopedia of the natural world

J. Grace Pennington

Interview With Author J. Grace Pennington

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! My name is J. Grace Pennington, and I am a self-published author and mom of three little girls living in Texas, where I spend my “free” time reading and writing as much as I can. I began self-publishing in my early twenties, and have published eleven books to date, seven of which are a part of my young-adult science-fiction series, “Firmament.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book, which is currently publishing on Kindle Vella, is called “Firmament: Eleftheria” and is the seventh book in my science-fiction series. In many ways it is a follow-up to the second book, where the starship crew discovered and visited a planet where they encountered and befriended a group of people originally from Earth. This current book chronicles their second visit to the planet, where they find plenty of surprises and cause a lot more chaos in the civilization than they had intended.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I often prefer to write in bed than at a desk. And when possible I like to write while eating my favorite snack — parmesan cheese, raw sunflower seeds, and watermelon lime Bai Bubbles. If applicable, I’ll listen to movie soundtracks from the same genre as the book I’m writing. Is any of that unusual?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Daniel Schwabauer, author of “Runt the Brave” and the creator of the One Year Adventure Novel curriculum is one of my biggest influences and most valued mentors. He gave me a strong sense of story and how it works and what’s truly beautiful about it. Other influences include Frank Peretti, C. S. Lewis, and — though this isn’t a book or author — Star Trek.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently finishing the first draft of book eight in my series, entitled “Firmament: Humanoid.” It’s going to deal with what it means to be human in a way that I hope is intriguing and fun to read. I’m certainly having fun writing it!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Honestly, staying in touch with my readers via social media has been my favorite way to engage my audience, though I don’t know whether it’s the most effective. I have relationships with fans of my series spanning the past decade, and they feed into my writing in such encouraging ways.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t fall prey to writer’s block. You can always get words on the page, even if they are awful or cringe-worthy. Just write! Get the draft out there. You can edit it all you want later, but not until you get past that first step.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You can always edit a bad page. You can’t edit a blank page.” – Jodi Picoult

What are you reading now?
I’m trying to read “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy, but I must admit I’m struggling with the lack of proper grammar and punctuation!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to keep working on my series until it’s complete, of course! I’m also starting to think about editing a general fiction book I wrote for NaNoWriMo last year, for which I am considering seeking traditional publication rather than self-publishing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’m going to assume that the Bible is already on the island, because I feel like that’s a copout answer! That said, I’m going to take a volume comprising the entire Chronicles of Narnia series, which is also probably a copout. Other than that, I’ll take Stepping Heavenward, Anne of Green Gables, and A Tale of Two Cities, I guess. It’s so hard to choose.

Calliope Parrish

Interview With Author Calliope Parrish

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Calliope is actually made up of two authors. We met almost twenty years ago online and have become fast friends. Over the years, we found that our writing is much better together. Currently we have released 4/5 of The Morrigan Aerie series with the last to come out in October. We have much more planned though.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Loaded question. We are working on several different projects at once, bouncing them back and forth. Our inspiration comes from everywhere. Be it a song that tickles the muse or just a random word or phrase.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
We both live in different states so that’s a little unusual. We find that writing in little stints (5-10 minutes at a time) works best.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Anne McCaffery, Tymber Dalton, and so many others. It really is too many to name.

What are you working on now?
Working on finalizing Dragon Accord and Holiday Bites, our last two releases for the year. And then will move on the The Rikashi Series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Diana Donnelly

Interview With Author Diana Donnelly

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a mortgage underwriter in my day job and have many years of experience in other areas of real estate. I have three children and 2 dogs. I write and publish nights and weekends. This is my first book and I am very excited to begin my journey into being a self-publisher.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is Essential Advice for Buying Your First Home and Navigating through the Mortgage Loan Process. The book was inspired by my oldest daughter. She is planning to buy her first home this year and wanted advice to help her understand what she should do and what to look out for along the way.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t do anything unusual but find it hard to stop once I get started.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love reading. Most of the books I read are horror or historical fiction romance. I love the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon and all Stephen King books. I also enjoy self-help books like Hypnotherapy by Freddy Jacquin and Atomic Habits by James Clear

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on my second book to help people to understand credit, how it works and how to help you increase your score to help you obtain the best financing.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Most of my marketing for my books is on Facebook. This is all a new experience for me and so exciting and interesting to learn not only about publishing but also about marketing.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Writing a book is an incredible experience and worth doing. You really have to enjoy it as there is a lot of time and hard work that gets put into not only the writing but the marketing of your book.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Sounds simple but many people are saying to remember to keep the main thing as the main thing. It is easy to start doing one topic and find something else you like and want to run off and work on that. It’s important to see things through and also to have a lot of patience as things take time to build momentum.

What are you reading now?
I would love to say I was reading something now but between my own books and working full-time, free time is hard to come by. I am waiting on the next book of the Outlander series to come out. I am sure I will find something before the end of the year as there is nothing better than opening up your book and relaxing for a few hours exploring another world.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am working on my book about credit and then plan to do one on selling your house. I also have people interested in multi-family homes and investing in homes so there are a lot of avenues to pursue.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That is hard to narrow down but definitely the first Outlander book by Diana Gabaldon, The Stand by Stephen King, and Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan, and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Ashley Lynn

Interview With Author Ashley Lynn

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an author, artist and nature dweller currently living in the forest in Wisconsin. After getting my BBA from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, I decided to go on a spiritual journey to learn more about myself and the Universe and became a nomad. This traveling inspired me to study permaculture design, foraging & wildcrafting, metaphysics & galactic history, and alternative ways of living.

I am the author of 5 self-published books:
A Year Against the Rain – Lessons Learned Living Off-Grid on the Oregon Coast (memoir);
Morning Motivations – Uplifting Poetry to Start Your Day (poetry);
The Adventures Across Guided Journal;
two zines, Earth Encyclopedia & Sacred Symbology (guided journals);
Find Me in the Forest – Poems and Ponderings of Nature, Consciousness, & Self (poetry)
and… of course I have many other manuscripts in the process of being published 🙂

I named my platform Adventures Across after my journey of being a spiritual nomad during my 20’s. From 2016-2020 I lived in sacred sites across North America and some of Europe, my favorites being Sedona, Arizona, Seal Rock, Oregon, the island of Ireland, and my current home in Wisconsin. On my website, you can find my entire journey laid out in photos, blog posts, and my portfolio. I also have an online art shop where I share fun t-shirts, original art, and books. Topics that inspire my gouache and digital paintings are the native prairies of the Midwest, sacred sites, effigy mounds, the Law of Attraction, galactic beings, astral traveling, and spiritual exploration. I turn many of my paintings into prints I make at home and t-shirts.

When I’m not creating, you will find me pruning tomatoes on an organic tomato farm in Wisconsin, doing my best to be an Earth steward not only for the planet, but for humans too. My dream is to have my own homestead with animals, a permaculture food forest, and a studio for every one of my favorite things – music, art, and writing. I hope to use my BBA to start my own edible landscaping business so I can bring healthy food right to people’s doorsteps in the form of urban permaculture and landscape design.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Find Me in the Forest is my newest book. Traveling, spirituality, consciousness, and nature inspired this book. The poems were written during that nomadic time in my life and are filled with whimsy, tranquility, and adventure. The book was originally going to be called “Poetry for Humanity” as many of the poems are meant to be motivational and inspirational. I changed it to “Find Me in the Forest” because it felt more personal to me and the poems written during that time of my life. The cover is inspired by being raw and natural just as I am, no filters or anything. At the core of our beings here, we are all humans with much of the same raw & vulnerable feelings, so being bare is something we can all relate to.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I seem to have a journal for everything… a spirituality journal, a dream journal, a shadow work journal, one for just poetry and original music, a sketchbook for pencil art & random mind flinglings, a sketchbook for painting… then don’t get me started on all the guided journals that are half filled in!

Being an Aries, I start so many projects and books and some never see the end of completion. It is a blessing and a curse, really, my best work being published and what isn’t meant to be finds its way into the digital recycle bin!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Emerson, Whitman, and Thoreau have inspired me since the beginning of my writing career. Nature is SUCH an important part of my life and inspires literally everything I’ve written. Reading these three writers’ works has inspired me. Even though they were in their prime over 100 years ago, I find it fascinating that we share many of the same living ideals and feelings within about nature and philosophy. Time doesn’t separate what the soul feels within.

My first book, A Year Against the Rain, was inspired by Cheryl Strayed’s book “Wild.” During my last year of college, I read her book under the table during lectures and dreamt about the day I’d get to go out and have a grand adventure as she did. Because of her book, I prepared for my adventurous life outside of the Midwest, taking only what would fit in the car (much of it camping gear) and actually went out and did it. From the day I left, it was like the Universe guided me everyday after that, literally, to each of the places I went and lived on public land until I landed out on the Oregon Coast. It was a thrill, grand adventure, and some times very scary going out and leaving all the comforts of living behind to live in a rustic off grid cabin in one of the darkest and rainiest places in the US. It was here I faced some of my darkest memories and inner demons that transformed into the person I am today.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a photographic memoir called “Frolic” which is a compilation of my photography in four places I lived and traveled. It is to celebrate the beauty of flowers, their spiritual essences, and the healing they can bring to our hearts. When I travel, I can’t help but to take 1,000’s of photos of the places I visit, most of the photos being of flowers. They have brought such healing, love, and grace to my heart after living through such darkness in my childhood. Flowers are like the spirits of the stars, embodied in our natural, physical world. My new book will showcase this!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method is for sure word of mouth. There is something special about connecting with people in person and sharing the gifts that flow through my work.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just create something, to get started! Your first book might not end up being your best. You can always get better. My first book was written beautifully, however I’ve improved so much as a self-published author over the years that even though I treasure it so, there are newer books that are more fulfilling pouring from my consciousness.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Something a mentor told me was:
“Writers write because they have to. It is not a choice, but a necessity.”

Don’t worry about the money or the outreach, it is all about fulfilling that heart’s desire within you that is the most fulfilling. Writers write because it is their heart’s calling. I will admit, there’s that desire for someone outside of myself to read my work and find deep meaning in it; though the healing and fulfillment comes from writing the story from start to finish and honoring and acknowledging yourself and your story. This is where the true gold lies.

What are you reading now?
The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon! I love the infusion of historical fiction, herbs & plants, femininity, heart wrenching romance, and the mysteries around standing stones and sacred sites. No words for this series, just pure emotion in my heart!

I am always reading spiritual, metaphysical works. Abraham Hicks (Esther and Jerry Hicks) is one of my favorites right now, it just feels so good to read their books and to practice what they speak – and it really works!

What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next? I’m beginning a new chapter in my writing career, one of outreach and having author events. This is something new for me, and it is equally scary and exciting! I am eager to meet my readers in person, and who knows? Maybe I’ll head out on a tour across the country.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins
Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs by Scott Cunningham
Some sort of foraging book!

Kim Wilch

Interview With Author Kim Wilch

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an award-winning author who is published in two anthologies and recently released my first children’s book, Peter the Turtle Can’t Poop. My second book, an adult picture book, WTF Duck?! (Why The Frown) is in the hands of the illustrator.

I live in Nebraska with my husband of thirty-five years, two precious pooches, a litter box trained bunny, and a duck that quacks me up. I’m the mom of two and grandma to three amazing grandchildren I adore. Besides writing, I love to camp, travel, and get creative with art, crafts, and photography.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Peter the Turtle Can’t Poop is a children’s picture book inspired by my grandson. Totally in love with turtles, he came up with the problem of the turtle not being able to poop. Swear, his idea, not mine. We brainstormed ideas why a turtle couldn’t poop – and the theme became ocean and beach litter – a serious problem worldwide. This humorous book helps children understand why litter belongs in a bin.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have no writing habits, I just write when inspired. Quiet is a must, and that is the challenge.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Outsiders by SE Hinton is my favorite book (and movie) of all time. I’ve become very fond of children’s books – the lessons they teach, at a young age, can truly change the world.

What are you working on now?
Picture books aren’t just for children. WTF Duck?! (Why The Frown) is an adult picture book showcasing common events with a dash of sarcasm. From waking up with an obnoxious alarm to rude people, WTF Duck?! (Why The Frown), puts a hilarious spin on everyday events we face. The book is child friendly, free from curse words, but geared towards adults.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m in love with Instagram. (OneMoreExclamation) I’ve met some wonderful people who are willing to offer advice, make suggestions, help promote, and are there for the victories and melt-downs. We’re bonded by our joy of writing. I enjoy sharing books and inspiration to a wide audience.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Gather every ounce of information you find, and with an open mind, try it. The information can become overwhelming so pare it down to what works for you.

Most of all, find a supportive group of authors. Don’t forget to help them with your own set of strengths. I truly believe that what you give will come back to you ten-fold.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what you love and love what you do.

What are you reading now?
Children’s books are amazingly wonderful. There are so many lessons we can learn in simple, straightforward language. The cherry on top, are beautiful illustrations that make page-turning exciting.

What’s next for you as a writer?
One of these days, I need to finish my novel, Rock Bottom Has a Basement. It’s taxing to write, but the story needs to be told.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Outsiders, Titanic, The Velveteen Rabbit, and of course, Peter the Turtle Can’t Poop.

Mileva Roumer

Interview With Author Mileva Roumer

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am Mileva Roumer, a pure lover of literature and arts. I find arts and literature an excellent and needed mixture for my life to be complete. It has been through my life, an armor when I felt weak and a barrier when I felt vulnerable and a door when I needed to escape. Lately it has been a motor of happiness as I learned to confront each sides of my life. For me, painting is like gazing at the sun, it is living in each seconds and enjoying each colors made to be in my hands. I find also a different yet similar kind of joy in writing. So far I have written one book titled ” Clementine blues” and I am currently writing a novel and more poetry books. As poetry is such a unique way to romanticize your life, to shorten so many ideas into segment then into short words that are meant to raise our consciousness. I find that poetry is a magic tool and it is something that I want to keep doing for a long time. As much as the cloud dances with the sky, the earth magic can never end.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Clementine blues was inspired by my grandmother. Her name was Denise Lavaud Roumer, she was a force in the creation of that book. As she died when I was young and after my dad death, ( 27th may 2021) I came back to my country. I felt so lonely and scared that I remember distinctly the awful feeling of being left alone in the world. As if from now on I was by myself and no one else was there for me. It was suffocating and I was 24 and suddenly I was just by myself. I felt like I was unprepared for that. I remember needing so much comfort that I went to my grandma’s house, her house was part of my dad’s place but most of the time I avoided it and it stayed generally empty. For a young self her death was quite scary and I didn’t get over it. The day she died, her dog that I loved, Josephine died, and there was this so beautiful mandarin tree it died as well as the orange tree. And they never blossomed again. For me that was a significant part of a part of my youth ending. It was like death opened a void, where nothing felt the same. But this time I came back, and it was as if that place welcomed me back. As if it was waiting for me and I strangely felt so comforted and I sat there and cried like a baby. That was when I let go of my refusal to accept how I felt and I started healing. The book is all a symbol of that moment, it’s about healing and letting go of all those barriers that we put into our lives. It is not just about poetry there is a story to follow and I hope at the end of it the reader will feel like they healed as well.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I sure do. I write a lot while painting at the same time, or while composing a script for a future movie project. I like to collect little rocks that I write on and that symbolize my characters so I can feel that they are present. So that in my imagination I can threat them as real beings when I write. I collect a lot of rocks as an artist it inspires me but that way they don’t just stay there on my shelf, they have jobs to do as well.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
One of the books that influenced before writing that book was by my great uncle a poet Emile roumer ” Le caiman etoile”. It influenced me in the way that I never got to read his poems despite his talent, as he died before I was born and that I never got occasion to study his work in school as I studied abroad. But when one of my cousins gave me one of his first manuscript I felt like I had a piece of history in my hand. And it was so magical as if my relatives that passed away in some kind of form where telling me to put my stuff together and to go beyond. So it inspired in taking the first steps that I never thought that I would one day have the confidence for: to publish my own.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on two big projects. One as an art director, on scripts and one putting a powerful storyline together and the other on preparing a novel to publish I hope next year.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am not quite sure but I hope that it will be this one.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just trust the process. It is not easy it not soft. You will be desapointed, hurt and sometimes feel like nothing matter and that you probably suck but just don’t know it yet. And honestly so many top authors I know feels that way as well, so you are pr
o+obably on the right path lol. Be kind to yourself, accept when it hurts, take a break, make sure to fill yourself with happiness and strengh and start again. We all take no’s, refusals, and there’s always doubts that comes with creative journey’s. You are not special, you are the one that makes yourself special. Don’t just only write to create and to publish, but write yourself to be the best as you can. Celebrate yourself, brace yourself and always make sure to believe in yourself. It is actually the motor that will push you up to so many places when opportunities don’t line up as much as you wanted.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just trust the process. It is not easy. You will be disappointed, hurt and sometimes feel like nothing matter and that you probably suck but just don’t know it yet. And honestly so many top authors I know feels that way as well, so you are probably on the right path lol. Be kind to yourself, accept when it hurts, take a break, make sure to fill yourself with happiness and strength and start again. We all take no’s, refusals, and there’s always doubts that comes with each creative journey’s. You are not special; you are the one that makes yourself special. Don’t just only write to create and to publish, but write yourself to be the best as you can. Celebrate yourself, brace yourself and always make sure to believe in yourself. It is actually the motor that will push you up to so many places when opportunities don’t line up as much as you want. You are part of your creative journey, your stories are not the only factors. Keep that in mind, it will help you a lot.

What are you reading now?
I was reading Emma Carroll book about ”les secrets de toutankhamon” it was magical and I really needed something to really get lost in. I found it accidently and it was about pharaohs and Egypt, that was already a hook for me, so add the story now and it fantastic.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I wish to highlight many stories in unique manners and to also learn from so many writers. It’s all about the feeling of sharing something special with peoples you might not even know. For that I am sure working on my future books.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would definitely take :
mort sur le nil by agatha christie
Any book from my Comtesse de Segur collection( it was an habit of my dad to by me one book as a child each time we were mad at each other or we felt guilty and they are so precious to me )
Emile roumer” Le caiman etoile”

Calvin Reed

Interview With Author Calvin Reed

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an established author and entrepreneur dedicated to the lifelong mission of enriching the lives of others. I am the author of Search Your Thoughts, This is War, and my newly published book, The Black and White Path to Prosperity.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, which launched August 7, 2022, is The Black and White Path to Prosperity. I have a passion for finance and I have a passion for helping those who do not have the information to help them achieve their goals. When I was younger, my parents did not have the information or tools available to help me on this journey God has me on. I spent years diving into the world of finance and economics in order to break down concepts and reword them in a more digestable way for those who really need it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
First and foremost, I would not have written one word without the blessings from the Big Homie upstairs. I always begin any project with prayer. I also rarely write at a desk. You may find me typing at a local coffee shop, people watching on a park bench, or laying on the floor with my laptop in front of me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read all day, everyday. If I had to pick some books off the top of my head I would say Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill, The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith, and The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn.

What are you working on now?
I am always researching and reading. I move when inspiration hits me. As stated previously, I study concepts in depth in order to tranlate them into common language. A project I am currently working on is raising funding for my wives fashion line.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I tend to do well on social media. My curren book has been receiving support on stories and reels.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep at it and don’t quit. You only fail if you quit. Be true to yourself. There are so many books already written, but none written by you.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You can lose a lot of money chasing women, but you’ll never lose women chasing money.” LoL

What are you reading now?
I am reading a financial reporting and analysis textbook.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m not fully sure. I will just have to wait until it comes to me.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
This is a difficult question for me. I would bring Think and Grow Rich, Berkshire Hathaway Letters to Shareholders, a textbook on investing that includes equations, problems, and answers in the appendix, and a commercial real estate book.

Paul Rouse

Interview With Author Paul Rouse

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, my name is Paul Rouse and I have written one piece, which I titled STUGO the Novel. Since middle school, I’ve always enjoyed writing. To me, writing not only allows me to create mystical settings and well-told stories but also serves as a way to deal with events or situations that arise in my life. During the time I write, I absorb myself in my work and pretend that I’m the characters I create. I decided to become an author because I wanted to write and use my work to show my audience that you can conquer the obstacles life throws at you.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book that I’ve written is titled STUGO the Novel. I began this incredible project three years ago when I sat in my parents’ kitchen one day and thought: “What would the world look like if teenagers governed, and adults vanished?” A week later I created the Rightful System and Wadewood Alliances, two prominent civilizations in my novel. From there new ideas came to me and eventually, I also decided to include my faith in STUGO. Through my novel, you’ll see characters like Andrew Morgan, who must learn to navigate the trials of governing, as well as deal with the struggles of a friendship that uprooted his life. Oh, and did I mention it is this friendship that has the potential to shape both alliances’ futures?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
It’s quite funny actually. The only unusual writing habit I display is writing chapters in notebooks, then re-writing them on my computer. Personally, I’m able to formulate my ideas better on paper than on the computer.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Leigh Bardugo, the author of the Grishaverse, has inspired me through her brilliant storytelling, and ability to keep her readers on the edge of their seats. I’d also say Robert Beatty, the author of the Serafina series, influenced me through his use of character development.

What are you working on now?
Right now I have turned my attention to marketing my upcoming novel, STUGO. This will be the first novel I’ve ever released and I can’t wait! Make sure to follow my novel’s social media accounts and check out the official website!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve found that social media is probably the best method to use when promoting your novel. Since so many people are constantly on it, it provides a great opportunity to reach potential readers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors would be to follow your heart and write the novels you want to write. Don’t try and keep up with the current trends, instead create something new and exciting! Also, read other novels because they can provide you with inspiration and insight. Make note of things like what you thought was great, or what could be improved. Then consult those notes when writing your stories.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is to do what makes you happy and fight for what you believe in.

What are you reading now?
Currently, I am reading “The King of Scars,” by Leigh Bardugo. I would definitely recommend this book to readers who love a suspenseful plot and well-developed characters.

What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, my next step will hopefully be to write a sequel to STUGO the Novel. I cannot express how excited I’ll be when I begin this! I won’t lie marketing is both fun but also a pain. Personally, writing is where I find my true happiness.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were stranded on an island, I would take (1) “Serafina and the Twisted Staff,” (2) “Ruin and Rising,” and (3) “All the Light We Cannot See.”
