Margaret Marr

Interview With Author Margaret Marr

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in the mountains of western North Carolina where I work for Carolina Outfitters, a popular rafting company, taking reservations. I work through the summer, then take winters off to focus on writing. To date I've written over 15 books in various genres with the latest being a young adult paranormal.

I live on top of a mountain with my two dogs Digger and Axle who keep me company no matter where I roam. I love to hike and just be outdoors whenever possible.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is BANSHEE the second book in the Hayton County Supernatural series. I've always been fascinated by banshees so I wanted to incorporate one into a novel. I wanted to make her beautiful and mysterious, so the reader can't quite figure out if she's good or bad.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write one chapter a week, polish it some, then move onto the next chapter in the next week.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I'm a huge Dean Koontz fan. His books are poetic and compelling with a hint of paranormal matter. I also like Stephen King when he's not using his writing for a political stand. I love books by Amanda Stevens who sends chills down my spine with her eerie plots.

What are you working on now?
I'm working on DEMON the third book in the Hayton County Supernatural series. DEMON will be the darkest novel yet in the series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do a lot of promotion through Facebook, but I also hunt down other websites where I can list my books and bring them to a broader audience. I also have a website which is handy to send potential readers to where all my books are listed in one place.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep chasing that dream. One day you'll catch it, and it'll be well worth the journey.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up. Always strive to reach your goals no matter how impossible they may seem.

What are you reading now?
I'm reading LOOK BEHIND YOU by Iris Johansen & Roy Johansen.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to finish DEMON this winter and publish with Kindle Unlimited.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
the King James Bible, FEAR NOTHING by Dean Koontz, BAG OF BONES by Stephen King, and the Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens.

Michael Limeski

Interview With Author Michael Limeski

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an engineer turned fiction author. This is my first venture into Sci-Fi. I have written extensive technical writing, poetry, a wild-ideas monthly column, and was co-publisher of Model Rocketry Magazine. My interest is in "technically-consistent" hard science fiction (if science fiction is ever really scientific!). I have degrees in engineering from MIT and Georgia Tech, and have worked in aeronautics, rocketry, software, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
FutureView Startup is about a high-tech startup company that managed to develop a time machine. I found that writing about time travel created inconsistent plots (the Grandfather Paradox), so I had to throw out a lot of what I wrote to develop a consistent theory of time travel. I welcome readers to report any flaws in my theory! The book series continues with FutureView Saving the Future, to come out in the Fall, and I am writing Book 3 now.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
A developed complex software as an engineer and found the problems of plot and character changes can lead to mistakes in left-over text. I started using a spreadsheet to keep track of what different characters know, and when they know it. And, since the reader is also carried along, I track what the reader knows.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was deeply into the traditional sci-fi authors: Asimov, Heinlein, Bradbury, etc. Heinlein's Starship Troopers actually got me to enlist in military service! (Not that terrible movie, the book!). Now I've read more time travel stuff from Van Coop, Victor Zugg, Douglas Richards, and, of course, Michael Crichton.

What are you working on now?
Completing the FutureView series. The neat thing about changing history is that you can write multiple stories about the same characters over the same time period! I have realized new capabilities and applications of the same technology in the later books.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Trying to focus on my website to maintain some control. (www.MichaelLimeski.com) Amazon dominates independent publishing.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I attended the 20Books conference in 2021 and was blown away by all the material for authors. I will be sure to attend the conference in Las Vegas in November this year.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Frank discussions from experienced authors can make an order of magnitude difference in success. Listening to the SelfPublishingFormula podcast.

What are you reading now?
Trying to cover the field in time travel to see what others are doing. Since I am interested in high-tech drama, I'm finding it hard to search out by category

What’s next for you as a writer?
More science fiction, especial hard sci-fi.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take a waterproof kindle and a solar-powered charger.

Interview With Author Megan Whitmer

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a married mother of 5 kids. I am Canadian and a duel citizen but now live I in the United States with my family. I am a respiratory therapist and I LOVE sucking snot out of people. Totally satisfying lol. Also I am a big fan of breathing. I think everyone should do it regularly. I play the piano and write music for choirs. I love writing (like most of you). This is my first book and it has been so much fun and a steep learning curve.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Mom Life Versus the Everyday Apocalypse. I've been writing Facebook posts (that were way too long for Facebook) for years and my friends LOVED them. I was constantly told to write a book. So finally, I listened and decided to do it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
You will often find me writing in the stairwell at work. I work at a hospital and inspiration likes to hit at the weirdest times. So I will go to a stairwell, type my idea into my phone and then work on it later when I get home.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Erma Bombeck, Patrick Mcmannis, Brandon Sanderson and his podcast have really inspired me to just get going and write.

What are you working on now?
Book 2. Another Mom humor book

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I LOVE handing out business cards. I run around parks and malls and stores. Where ever moms are, and I do a little spiel and let them know about my book. It totally energizes me and makes me feel like I connect with my readers. It also leads to more and better reviews.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be prepared to work hard to get it to the published phase. Writing was fun, Publishing is like running a marathon where you learn a thousand different skills that you had no idea existed. Also DO get it professionally edited. and DON'T do you cover yourself. Get a professional to do your cover.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just do it. I started writing this book in the middle of a life disaster. There is never a better time than now.

What are you reading now?
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

What’s next for you as a writer?
I'm Starting on my next mommy humor book. I can't wait to finish it.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My scriptures By God 🙂
What Katy Did By Susan Coolidge
No Coins Please by Gordon Korman
Does My Head look Big in This by Randa Abdel-Fattah

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Everyone's first draft sucks.

What are you reading now?
Right now i'm reading 'twisted love' by Ana Huang.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I'm going to finish the Alfheim Chronicles series, and possibly do some fairy tale retellings.
