Sierra Vandervort

Interview With Author Sierra Vandervort

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Sierra! I’m a 27-year-old witchy woman living in Portland, Oregon. I’m a yoga teacher, freelancer, and newly self-published author. I have two books published internationally through a traditional publishing house, (Solar) but I just recently self-published my first title!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Your Year of Magic. It’s a journaling workbook that outlines every full moon of the year and teaches you how to utilize them to feel good and reach your potential. Moon magic is an intuitive way to connect to your highest self through nature. But it can also be a helpful framework for goal-setting that actually honors your energetic ebbs & flows!

In my new book, I included rituals, journal prompts, and high-vibe insights for every full moon of the year. By attuning to this energy, we are taken out of the uninspiring repetition of the everyday – and begin to feel a bit of magic and transformation in our lives!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to blare house music while I’m writing sometimes. It really helps me get “in the zone!”

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dorothy Morrison, Danu Forest, Paulo Coelho, and Hunter S. Thompson.

What are you working on now?
I’ve been doing a lot of magazine work at the moment, but I’m about to start work on my next book, a tracking journal for women to understand and harness the power of their menstrual cycle.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Honestly, organic sharing on Instagram! I’m still pretty new to promoting my book, but it’s worked out really well for me so far.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t settle for less than total alignment with your creative vision. But at the same time, don’t expect perfection.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what you love, and trust that everything else will follow.

What are you reading now?
Shamelessly, Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer. It’s a bit of a nostalgic indulgence for me, but I stand by it.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Trying to give as much support as I can to my new book, and hopefully, create some fun local events here in Portland centered around it!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Walden, and The Bhagavad Gita

Anne van Gessel

Interview With Author Anne van Gessel

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Anne van Gessel and I sat down to chat about her upcoming children’s book on dyslexia, “Cruz Finds His Way”, which hit the shelves of amazon last month. Anne also has other projects in the works, a memoir entitled, “My Friend Dyslexia, From Self-Loathing to Self-Acceptance” where she speaks on her journey with dyslexia and provides resources for employers and employees on navigating the workspace with neurodiversity in mind. Anne is also working on a “Celebrate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Inspirational Card Deck”. How wonderful! We look forward to seeing the process of these develop, Anne. Thank you for sitting down with me.

Let’s start off with getting to know more about you. Could you give us five weird and quirky facts about yourself?

“Sure, let me think of 5 quirky things. Okay, how are these for quirky and weird? First one, a hobby of mine is to try out new superfoods, health food, supplements, and snacks. For example mushroom/ kelp jerky, cricket protein bars, mushroom coffee, etc. I enjoy trying the specialty/interesting dishes when I travel. While visiting the Philippines, I ate a balut (a fertilized bird egg (usually a duck) which is incubated for a period of 14 to 21 days), and I ate whale while in Iceland. Second, my favorite go-to quick meal is sardines on rice. Third, I’ve had braces from 5th grade until 11th grade. Not because I actually needed it for that long, but because I was waiting for all my adult teeth to come in. Fourth, I studied abroad in China for a semester in college, where I blended-in due to people thinking I am half-Chinese and half-Russian. And last thing, when I’m hungry and eating, I only want to focus on the meal, so don’t expect me to have a conversation at mealtime! If it’s any kind of event that is around mealtime, I will eat beforehand so as to not be hangry.”

“Cruz the crow experiences dyslexia is preparing to go on his first solo flight, where he will be practicing to read signs in order to find his way back home before sun down. He starts off his journey feeling a ton of self-doubt, and along the way, he even experiences some set-backs that confirm his lack of confidence. Later on, he meets two characters, encouraging him to tap into the wisdom he has within him. With this new found courage and confidence, he finds his way back home.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Cruz Finds His Way

Cruz the Crow is about to embark on the single most important journey of his whole life: his solo-flight! But there is just one problem! All those letters and numbers that the other crows can read: well he can’t. How will he ever find his way? A charming and inspiring tale that tells kids it is ok to be different, and that we all have our strengths.

Nathan Gewondjan

Interview With Author Nathan Gewondjan

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. I was educated independently and, because of such have always been passionate about learning and freedom. I am a serial entrepreneur, investor, and best-selling author. I’m currently working on my next book which will be all about your purpose, why you do what you do, and why it’s so important to know.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Open-Minded Education: How to Do What You Love and Make Millions.
This book was inspired by my passion for doing what you love and pursuing your passion. I feel so many people don’t end up doing what they are passionate about because of fear that they won’t be successful. The premise of the book is that it doesn’t matter what you’re doing, it’s all about HOW you’re doing it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I write, I prefer to have movie soundtrack or some baroque period music playing in the background.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
As a teenager, I remember listening to Napoleon Hill’s book: Think and Grow Rich. This book had a huge impact on me. I also enjoyed book from Bob Proctor, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Wallace Wattles, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Robert Kiyosaki.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on writing a book about purpose. In it, I explain how to discover your purpose, why it’s important, and how to let it fuel your actions.
I am also teaming up with a friend in Ireland to write a book to inspire parents to teach their kids what they aren’t learning in school.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Thus far, the most effective means of promotion have been through Amazon ads, networking, and being on podcast shows.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be patient. Be determined. Always be learning. If you put in the work now, it will be a lot easier down the road.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never, ever, ever give up. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. By small and simple things, are great things brought to pass. Consistently doing the little things every day, lead you to having massive success.

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading a book called: How to Read A Book by Mortimer J. Adler & Charles Van Doren.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My brother and I are getting ready to launch a series of online courses in tandem with the book Open-Minded Education to give our readers the opportunity to dive in a bit deeper in some of the concepts that will help them do what they love and make millions in the process. Along with this, we are publishing blog posts in line with the message of the book.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Holy Bible
The Book of Mormon
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
The Go-Giver by Bob Burg & John David Mann
