Anne Joyce

Interview With Author Anne Joyce

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written three books now. I was a nerdy kid who got bullied a lot, so I started writing poetry and comic books in grade school. I wrote my first novella, “When the Chips Are Down” when I was in my twenties and it was a Finalist in the MARSocial Author of the Year 2013 Contest.
My second novel, “Arid,” was published in 2018 and I’ve just finished my prequel to “Arid.” It’s called “Parched: The Days Before Exile” and its scheduled release date is May 2.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Parched: The Days Before Exile.” It’s a prequel to “Arid” and “Arid” was inspired by a documentary I watched about the mysterious draining of lakes and rivers and the illegal exploitation of water that’s happening all across the United States

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have a habit of not eating or drinking much when I’m writing. I become hyper-focused. I’ve almost passed out several times because of it

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Rad Bradbury, George Orwell, Janet Mcnulty and Orson Scott Card

What are you working on now?
I started on a thriller/suspense novel before I decided to write “Parched.” I’m about 10,000 words in, so I might get back to it

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
If you’re doing a free book promotion, Freebooksy is great for that. I also make a lot of posters about my book using canva.com and share the hell out of them on social media

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Network with other authors. Help each other. We’re all in this together

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Publishing/marketing a book is a marathon, not a sprint

What are you reading now?
“Scars” by Cheryl Rainfield

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m probably going to delve into the thriller/suspense genre of writing. I’ve always been fascinated with it

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Classic Works from Women Writers,” “Fahrenheit 411” and maybe “Harry Potter”

K.L. Penaluna

Interview With Author K.L. Penaluna

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi All! I grew up in Seattle, Washington. I married a Navy man, and we lived in Spain and Italy as well as Virginia Beach, Virginia while he was on active duty. We’ve also lived in the deserts of southern California and Tucson, Arizona. Now, I’m back home, living on an island about 25 miles northwest of Seattle. I’ve had people tell me, through the years, that I should write. But I never considered it seriously, until I found myself without much to do, living on an island. So here I am! I’ve always been a romantic at heart so it’s a natural fit for me to write about what I love–Romance!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My debut novel is named: Forever Sheyanne: A Sweet YA Romance. I wrote it in fits and spurts over a period of about six years without having any knowledge of what I was doing! 🙂 After it was finished, I read about how to write fiction. Yes, that’s right, I did things backward! I let my intuition and life experience guide me rather than formal instruction. A couple of months before the book went live on Amazon in October, 2021, I commenced studying tons about the craft of writing. This time around, I’m already halfway through writing the first draft of the Sequel novel. Two friends of mine inspired me to write a romance book. Many moons ago, one friend mentioned I was always talking about romantic things so she said I should write about them. I poo-pooed the idea, at the time. But then a more recent friend of mine kept telling me I should write books. He spent a lot of time telling me about the Native American culture he was a part of, to which I felt a spiritual connection. Thus, I began imagining what our friendship would have been like if we’d met as kids in school. And the rest is history–\Forever Sheyanne was born!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do have what some may consider “unusual” writing habits! I write in the middle of the night, oftentimes. I use a combination of handwriting and typing. Instead of waiting until my first draft is finished, I self-edit as I go along. And I was a Pantser before I knew what that meant! 🙂 No outlines, no notes! It’s as though a movie unfolds in my mind of the characters’ words, thoughts, feelings, and actions and I write along. It feels like the characters are the ones writing the book, and I’m the conduit, getting it into print!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love inspirational writings such as The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and most anything Iyanla Vanzant writes, among many others. I love inspirational quotes, too. Rumi is one of my favorites! I also love stories about animals, especially about horses, dogs, and cats. But all animal stories grab hold of my heart. I also love–you guessed it– Romances, especially Western Romances that are reasonably clean. There are too many authors, and many more to discover, to name here. One of my all-time favorite books is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I read it as a young teen, but I still remember how engrossed in the story I was that summer, way back then! 🙂

What are you working on now?
As mentioned above, I’m working on the Sequel to Forever Sheyanne. The working title is: Sheyanne Follows Her Heart (subject to change). I’ve nearly reached the midpoint of the story over the last couple plus months (quite the departure from the time it took me to write the debut novel). In the sequel, the heat and conflict are turned up as Sheyanne and Lanny are a couple of years older, now (in the eighteen-year-old range). And the length won’t be as long as in the first book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I follow Dave Chesson, Geoff Affleck, and Dale Roberts to name a few. There are so many sources of excellent information out there. Look around with a discerning eye and ear in order to decide what’s a good fit for you.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Believe in yourself!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write from your heart!

What are you reading now?
Reading my first draft is keeping me busy. Every now and then I sneak in a light romance and animal stories. Also, I read inspirational newsletters and insights plus lots of current events.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Dunno yet. Last year, I wrote a romantic short story that I’d like to publish once the sequel novel is finished.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A romance book that’s not over the top, a book about animals, an inspirational book, and a book of inspirational, love, and friendship quotes.

Jiten Bhatt

Interview With Author Jiten Bhatt

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a PhD Scholar and an M Tech from IIT Bombay. I also hold a Diploma in Creative English writing. I am an Ex Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) engineering scientist. I have written three books in past.
My first book was Smart techniques for cracking the job interview, where I explain different techniques to clear job interviews.
My second book was “Winning with Disability”, which is a collection of real life stories of eight differently abled persons – Inky Johnson, Arunima Sinha, Muniba Mazari, Sudha Chandran, Preethi Srinivasan, Károly Takács, Major D. P. Singh, and Aditya Mehta.
My third book was “Handling Infidelity”, which is a book for all the brave souls dealing with infidelity.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My new book is titled, “Ask It Right: A self help guide book on asking the right questions in your mind”. I was inspired to write this book, when I saw people asking wrong questions and going in a downward spiral of thoughts. Sometime years ago, I had a guest named Forum, who was very low in self confidence and she kept blaming herself for everything. She would often wonder, “Why does this happen to me?” I tried to convince her that it was not her fault and she needs to change her mindset. Later this inspired me to write a book on how people ask wrong questions and end up without any solutions to their problems. In this book, I show, why it is essential to ask the right questions in order to get right answers. I have discussed in detail about many different questioning techniques which we can use to solve any problem in our lives, whether it is business, carrier or relationship.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, quite a time, I get ideas in the middle of the night. I then open my google docs on my phone and jot down the ideas before going back to sleep. That way I ensure that all my ideas are not lost from my memory.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love to read non fiction self help books. I love the way many authors motivate us. My favourite authors are Shiv Khera, Tony Robbins, James Clear and Robin Sharma.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a non-fiction book on breaking our comfort zone.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I believe social media plays an important role in promoting our books and Instagram and Facebook are vital in promoting our books. Apart from that Awesome Gang is a beautifully designed website which helps both authors and readers in connecting with each other.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
It is a long journey ahead, so do not panic and give up in the middle.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Lage Raho i.e. Keep striving for your best version

What are you reading now?
Awaken the giant within by Tony Robbins

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have so far written only non-fiction. But I also want to dive into fiction writing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
You can win by Shiv Khera
The monk who sold his Ferarri by Robin Sharma
Atomic Habits by James Clear

Terry Vinson

Interview With Author Terry Vinson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Born and raised in Red Bay, Alabama, I’m an Air Force veteran and former correctional officer for the state of Texas.
My first half-dozen published works were strictly horror novels; creature features. I have since graduated to crime and mystery thrillers, though I often catch myself treading down a familiar path; dark, sinister, foreboding. I write what I love to read, that being suspense and horror. I have dabbled in sci-fi but certainly nothing that would impress readers of Heinlein, Bradbury or Clarke.
If asked by a reader which of my 21 published novels is my personal favorite, I’d probably say the more recent works, to include ‘Blue Falcon’, ‘Blacktop’ and of course my latest, ‘Inherent Chaos’.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest work is the horror/thriller ‘Inherent Chaos’ from Rogue Phoenix Press.
Initially I’d had a series of books in mind but as work progressed, I was able to weave elements of the trio of novels I’d planned into one solid story. A mystery/thriller at heart, the rather brutal horror elements found within are less supernatural in nature than simply man’s own inherent penchant for evil.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unlike many, I have no patience for outlines. I will start a novel with a vague idea of what I want to write, usually creating the characters first. As I proceed, even I have no idea where the story will end up. My endings, which usually involve a twist of some type, often come as much as a surprise to me as future readers.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Early in my twenties it was the novels of Stephen King, Dean R. Koontz and Robert McCammon, my personal trailblazers of ’80’s and 90’s horror thrillers. Of late I’ve enjoyed the writing of S. Craig Zahler, Nick Cutter and Blake Crouch.

What are you working on now?
A crime thriller based on an ’80’s hair band who are called upon to perform at a mysterious reunion upon the desolate grounds of a long-abandoned Mississippi prison site.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I utilize many social media sites and book advertisers to get the word out.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read. The more you read, the better your own writing will become.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
See above. Also, never force yourself to write if the mood simply isn’t there. Take a breath, especially if you’ve hit a creative wall.

What are you reading now?
Dan Simmons’ classic chiller ‘Carrion Comfort’.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to pen a non-fiction novel, which would be my very first.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Blue World – Robert McCammon
Skeleton Crew – Stephen King
The Deep – Nick Cutter
Book of the Dead – (various authors – 80’s horror anthology)
