Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been interested in writing for over two decades. I began a PhD program and wrote a dissertation that I couldn’t get approval for to do the research. I wrote a book in around 1999 that was self-published and didn’t do well. My writing wasn’t that good then. I wrote another novel a few later and recently rewrote it, Codename Poltergeist.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Codename Poltergeist.
I have always enjoyed reading spy novels. One of my favorite authors is Robert Ludlum and another is Frederick Forsyth. Those and others inspired me, and I felt thrilled by the idea and giving others the pleasure and enjoying a good read.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Robert Ludlum, Frederick Forsyth, Jay Allan

What are you working on now?
A sequel to Codename Poltergeist

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to keep writing, but to attend courses or seminars that help you to improve grammar, descriptive, and visualization skills.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never stop. Keep writing.

What are you reading now?
“Ruins of Empire” by Jay Allen and I’m rereading “The Fourth Protocol” by Frederick Forsyth.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m contemplating working on a religious fiction novel.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Bible, The Parsifal Mosaic, The Holcroft Covenant, The Hobbit

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a busy wife and mother of five. During the beginning of the pandemic, I began to tap into myself and figure things that I have always loved to do. During this time my passions for children and writing started to create a new direction for me. I published my first book and a new love for writing children’s book began to be my favorite hobby. I only have one published book at this time but anticipate putting out more in the future.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Roman’s Road: A Journey to Salvation was simply inspired by the children’s ministry I was volunteering with at my church and one of my daughters. My daughter had made the decision to accept salvation and she began to grill me with questions about her decision and faith in God in general. I talk to children and youth a lot about God but this particular time required me to consider that it takes some true effort and thought when having these types of conversations with your own children. Her inquiries sparked a compassion for me to inform children and parents worldwide on salvation and what that conversation should and could look like outside of a person’s church walls.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I get an idea to write a book about something I find or take pictures to support my ideas that I have in mind. Once I look over an image it helps me flow easier with what I am trying to express in words. In my opinion, this method is what makes me a sure contender to write children’s books.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
To be honest I have not come across a lot of authors that look like me or relate to me in the Christian children’s book world yet. I really love Vashti Harrison’s works and Priscilla Shirer. They both are the examples of how I would like my author platform to be admired one day.

What are you working on now?
Currently I am working on an affirmation book, it is very unorthodox in comparison to most books published similar in concept.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am in process of creating a landing page for readers interested in my current book. I can be found on Instagram and Facebook, but Amazon is the best way to get information about me and my book.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is take your time and do not rush the process. It took me one year to research how to self-publish, brand, market and promote yourself as an author. I still am working out the process but because my first book was a passion it is easy to tell others about why I love being an author now.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you have something that you are very passionate about or consider yourself an expert in a particular field write a book about it!!! And live your life chasing your dreams rather than waking up daily regretting that you never tried at all.

What are you reading now?
Currently I am slowly working my way through a book that was given to me for my children called Teaching Your Children Healthy Sexuality by Jim Burns. All of my kids are at impressionable ages with identity and puberty and I want to make sure I get it right with advice and guidance in these areas because I did not have it given to me.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to venture out a bit and get more practice under my belt by freelance writing, attending workshops, illustrator tutorials and possibly beginning to post content on subjects I always wanted to write about. I have been leaning towards vlogging and blogging within the next couple of months. I am not quite ready to publish my next book so I want to use the downtime becoming a better writer.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Tony Evans Commentary Bible, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others in America: Essays by Kiese Laymon, and Discerning the Voice of God: How to Recognize When God is Speaking

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an introvert, dog and adventure lover. I prefer to be behind the scene. Having stayed in various places and moving around, I find it difficult to associate myself with one culture or place. So, for me, home is where the loved ones and dogs are.

I have published one book so far, and there is one upcoming book that is going through the process of editing now.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
In Ora: The Land of the Superior.
I’m inspired by the advancement of genetics and technology that we have so far, it makes me think about what we could become and the ramification of it and the impacts it would have on the people.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if I can call it a habit yet. I usually have some kind of work frame about what I’m going to do. However, when I write, I find that it’s more fitting for me to throw it all away. I actually write without knowing what would happen next, and surprisingly, it works better for me. In that way, I find the idea of the next scene more fitting with the current one as I am writing it, and I also change direction when I see fit. Personally, I think it works better and gets my creativity unrestricted.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many, not specific, but in a general way. The delivery, presentation, how to describe a setting and body language, for example.

What are you working on now?
Another book that probably belongs to the Suspense genre.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
To be really honest, I have no idea. I love to write and hate to market. I know these two should go along together in order to have a slight chance of success. But hey, if authors know how to market well, we are probably out there doing other things. I can’t speak for everyone, but writers are normally reserved. IMO, writing and marketing are on different ends of the spectrum, and that is one of the biggest challenges.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I need one myself!
I think writing for passion is probably a great way to start. There are not many better feelings than being able to express your ideas in something, and word is one of them.

What are you reading now?
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, this is my favorite book.
Schindler’s List by Thomas Kennealy, I reread this book so many times. It’s heavy and depressing, and I finally have the time to read it with even more time dedication.
My own book, I have all the time to criticize myself, it can never be over-edited.

It’s quite interesting to notice when reviewing my works.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
An Old Orthodox Pope actually. Pope Shenouda the Third. He wrote for the wellbeing of others and wrote with such insight and wisdom.

What are you working on now?
A discourse on the foundation of morality in Western Society; its causes, effects and its changing environment.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More books. Definitely more books.

I inspire to try many more subgenres like rom-com, mafia romance, chick-lit, and historical.

I am Dr. Chhavi Gandhi. I am a doctor (Clinical Microbiologist and an Infection Control Officer) by profession. I have published one book and in process of writing many more.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is “The Mess in Her Womb: A couple’s journey through Infertility”. It is inspired my husband and my gruesome journey through multiple rounds of In-vitro ferilitisation and constant failures.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love writing with calm music (mostly nature sounds) in the background. I also can’t write in public, so I want to be alone in the room when I am in the process.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
“How to fall in love” by Cecelia Ahern and “Godplayer” by Robin Cook.

What are you working on now?
I am working on widening my audience and learning to self-edit my books before I give them for the actual edits.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
awesomegang.com, ebooksunlimited.com, fictionhideaway.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Finish that book. We never who we can inspire through our words, and get the book edited really well, never underestimate the power of well-edited book.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Our profession and passion can be two different things. So if we are doctors, doesn’t mean we can’t be the authors as well.

What are you reading now?
I am almost always inclined toward Indie authors and they are the unsung talents of the literary world. So I am currently reading a book by one such author “A Life Unplanned”.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am writing a medical fiction but would love to keep the project under wraps for now.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Such a difficult question but I’ll take one from each genre:
Romance- Reminders of Him (Colleen Hoover)
Medical fiction- Chromosome 6 (Robin Cook)

Anna Dahland

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a Seattle-based author with a passion for intercultural understanding and protecting children. As a former professor of English Education at Chonnam National University in South Korea, I have authored many textbooks for Korean high schools. Recently, I turned to personal writing and have published a memoir as well as poems and a children’s book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I wrote “Swedish Again” in response to a “life is stranger than fiction” situation. I ended up back in the country of my birth re-parenting my former stepchildren and juggling motherhood across four countries and 11 children! When my second ex-husband died, his children turned to me. Only problem was, I lived in Seattle and they lived in Stockholm. I had not been a Swedish citizen for over 30 years. And thus it began…

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write as a gift to myself (having been a busy parent for many, many years), so I always try to remember to keep it fun. That said, I write early in the day so I can check it off my list. I love checking things off my list, apparently!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many, many. I love Stephen King for his voice and the feeling that he’s sitting right next to me telling me a story. I also love Margaret Atwood and Alice Munro. I read a lot, and I’m willing to try out anything which grabs my interest, from literary fiction (The Vegetarian by Han Kang) to the simply fun (Death By Dumpling by Vivien Chien.) My goal is to write in a clear, simple and engaging way, and I see other authors as my teachers.

What are you working on now?
That’s a secret! Last time I told someone what I was working on, my creativity ground to a halt. I will say, though, that at some point I will write about my 15 years living in South Korea, and at some point, I want to write amusing fiction.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I keep an active presence on Facebook and other social media, and I have a website and newsletter. I also try to connect with people who have an interest in Swedish culture (for this book). I track my promotion activity in an Excel sheet, so I can keep that stuff out of my brain as I continue to write.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes. Remember the difference between writing and publishing. Write for yourself, and enjoy the thrill of creation. Then consider if and how and when to publish your writing. It’s totally OK to write something which only you or a family member might enjoy.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice is to focus on the emotion of the story and the underlying conflict rather than the action or setting. No one really cares what time my character got up this morning. They care that she dreaded getting up because she feared going to work that day.

What are you reading now?
Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner. It’s good!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m hoping for a sunny, warm spring with nice students and time to write. I love spring!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take Baha’i Prayers, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah, and the Complete Works of Shakespeare. I’m gonna be there a long time, right? If allowed a 4th, I would take a very thick notebook in which to write!

Melissa Rovelli

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
How many books have I’ve written? Quite a few. I’ve written a few fiction books under the name Melissa Swaim and Melissa Rovelli and under the name Soror Syrinx. About 20 or so are in print right now.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
One of my latest is Still Here, a fictional account of a true unsolved mystery involving the Somerton man. Even though it happened during the cold war, the story is still in the news and advanced DNA tests are underway. Still Here is a novella that seeks to mix true events with imagined possibilities involving the paranormal and psychic spies.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes. I never write straight through from start to finish. I write some of the beginning, some of the end and then some of the middle, and then go back and flesh out the areas that flow easiest. When I get inspired, I add more and revisit the rest as the pieces come together.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
For fiction, I love Linda Howard. For esoteric books, I’d say Dion Fortune is one of my influences.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on another thriller called Intent as well as a book called Shadowwalker, Shadowweaver.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook. I’m looking for others at the moment.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep at it. Don’t give up. Some will be better than others, so keep trying and exploring genres and see what works for you.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t worry about what others think.

What are you reading now?
Looking for a good read right now.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Always something in the works. Always trying to stay inspired.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d have to think about that for a while.
