Deborah King

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been a writer and storyteller my whole life. I published my first short story when I was seven years old. When I’m not writing, I enjoy cartoons, cooking, photography, and Star Trek. Born and raised in Chicago, I’ve managed to achieve all of my childhood dreams and still live in the area with my husband and two youngest children. According to my daughter, I’ve “literally aced my life!”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Mary Not Broken. It’s being published as I write it on Kindle Vella. Mary Not Broken is the prequel to my first book, Glory Bishop. It chronicles the story of Glory’s mother, Mary from her teenaged years through adulthood.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, LOL. I will listen to a song on repeat for as long as it takes to finish writing a chapter. I once listened to the same song non-stop for 3 days… I mean non-stop… I didn’t sleep and barely ate or drank… just wrote and wrote and wrote…

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to name them all, but here’s a few: Wild Seed by Octavia Butler; Peaches by Dindga McCannon; Alice Walker, Maya Angelou, C.S. Lewis, Mark Twain, Madelyn L’Engel, Peter David, Margaret Atwood, Amy Tan, Judy Blume, Donald Goines… OMG I could go on and on…

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on Mary Not Broken. It’s being published in episodes on Kindle Vella. I’m literally writing and publishing at the same time.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Of course the answer is Awesome Gang, but I also use Facebook ads (I don’t know how much it helps) and other sites.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
What’s a new author? IF you’ve been telling stories your whole life (lies do count as stories), then you’re not new. You might be a novice at putting pen to paper (fingers to keyboard) but the stories have been there a long time. Put your butt in the chair and start writing them down. Don’t worry about quality – that comes with practice…just write the stories.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From my mother… How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. More from my mother… Do it scared. And still more from my mother… Dazzle ’em with brilliance or baffle ’em with BS.

What are you reading now?
Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown. It’s… … interesting.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I HAVE NO IDEA! Mary’s story is growing much bigger than I planned, so I don’t know when it’ll be finished so I’m gonna concentrate on that for a while.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s a hard question because I don’t know whether to pick books I love, or books I hope to love… things I’ve never read like most of the classics and anything labelled “Must Read”. The Red Tent, A Tale of Two Cities, Star Trek-The Return, Pride and Prejudice…I guess?

Anastasia McIntosh

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Anastasia McIntosh and I’m a 35-year-old correctional officer
who loves to read and write in my spare time. I’ve written a few books;
however, only one of my books has been published and that’s my book
called Chase The Girl. I enjoy writing outside when it’s warm or inside by
the sound of a crackling fire. I am also a very active person who enjoys
playing badminton and lifting weights. I also like to go snowboarding
and going to the beach with my partner as we both enjoy nature and the
outdoors. My hope is to inspire readers and writers to be their best selves by
not giving up when defeat hits. After all, success is shortly after.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is called Chase The Girl. The inspiration to
write it was created after meeting a motivational and successful
businessman who inspired me to write my book in the first place. Without
his genuine guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m grateful for his
knowledge and insight.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I think so, yes. I’ve written all of my books on my iPad that sits on my lap
on top of a hard keyboard. I’ve been told that this is odd. I will also write
ideas and words on my hand and up my arm if an idea pops into my head
while I’m driving because if I don’t write it at the time, I will forget the
idea.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh wow, that’s quite the question for me lol. So many authors and books
have influenced me. I’ve read tons and tons of self-help books and I love
them all. The most influential book I’ve read is called Think and Grow
Rich by Napoleon Hill. Everyone needs to read this book. I also love the
Gideon Cross series (romance) by Silvia Day. She is a phenomenal writer.

What are you working on now?
I am working on part 2 of Chase The Girl. As well, I am working on
making Chase The Girl into a movie for those that can’t read and/or who
don’t like to read.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
You can find out more about me and my book here.
https://pegasuspublishers.com/books/all/chase-the-girl

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The advice I have for new authors is to hire a firm that will get your work
noticed. It takes money to make money so pay to hire them and they
should provide the results you are looking for. You also have to believe in
yourself, have the courage to pursue your dreams, and never give up.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have ever heard was that: success occurs one step after
defeat. An inspiring, driven, successful businessman gave me that advice
about ten years ago and it has always stuck with me ever since. I will be
forever grateful for his teachings and the advice he gave me.

What are you reading now?
I am reading a book by Author Jen Sincero (I love her books) called
Badass Habits: Cultivate The Confidence, Boundaries, And Know-how To
Upgrade Your Life. Her works inspire me to be my best self. As well, she
has a funny sense of humor that I find entertaining, which makes reading
more enjoyable.

What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, I’m hoping to make my book Chase The Girl into a movie. I
have two producers interested so far. As well, I am writing a second book
to Chase the Girl to answer any unanswered questions in the first book.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were going to be stranded on a desert island, I would bring the
following four books: 1) Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, 2)
#Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, 3) Stop Doing That Sh*t: End Self-
sabotage and Demand Your Life Back by Gary John Bishop, and 4) You
are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen
Sincero.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I currently have five books out now, with a novella due out later this year. I also have three novels written, waiting in the submission queue.
Most of my work lingers in the shadows of southern gothic, but my latest release is an action adventure novel. There is plenty of darkness woven ito it’s subplots though.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Man with No Eyes is an action adventure thriller about-you guessed it- a man with no eyes. When Andrew Harkins finds himself at odds with the owner of a high tech lab located in the Saudi desert, his punishment is severe. Alain Savon, the owner, has his eyes surgically removed to break his will, but he’s underestimated our man. Possessing the ability to control every function of his body, Andrew escapes, but has sworn his revenge. Now all he has to do to have his revenge is elude gun runners, escape Facility agents, avoid the US military, oh and cross a merciless desert to find him.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. The only quirk I have is that I have to write what wants to be written. I can’t sit down and force myself to write something, ie a sequel, if it’s not ready to be written

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Although a different genre, I like Ken Follet’s writing style. I also love Emerson’s eloquence with words. Of course, I love the king of the dark genre, Poe.

What are you working on now?
I’m editing a novel entitled The Last Elemental. The title may change, but it’s about a spirit that has been trapped in an abandoned bank vault for 50 years. The thing I love about it is that the building burned long ago and the vault has been on a vacant lot in the mjddle of town, in plain sight, for years.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I wish I knew a maqic site. Of course I employ all social media and sites like All Author, Awesome Gang, Pretty Hot Books etc. I think it takes a lit to get the word out.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
You’re never good enough to coast. Keep working on your craft, even if you make it big. That, and never give up. If you give up none of that other stuff matters.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That it was going to be hard and to make sure this was what I wanted. Being a writer isn’t for the faint of heart. I’ve probably had a thousand rejections to get 2 traditionallt published novels and a dozen short stories in journals. It’s hard and has a low percentage positive outcome.

What are you reading now?
Ken Follett’s Never. I’ve read everything of his.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Fame and furtune. Right? I’m working on getting a multi book deal, maybe an advance. That would be nice. If not, I have rwo novels that will come out next year either way.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Poe’s unabridged short stories.
Doerr’s All The Light we Cannot See
And a couple collections or books by R.W. Emerson.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 50 years old, a husband, and an Army Veteran. I have published one book, but it is the beginning of a much larger series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Dead Squire is the name of my book. It began from an idea that time is cyclical. The earth has mass extinction events and life has to begin over again. The Dead Squire takes place in a far future medieval era.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write very early in the morning, like 2am. The world is absolutely quiet and peaceful at this time of day.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Game of Thrones, The Last Kingdom, The Wheel of Time, Stephen King, J.K. Rowling

What are you working on now?
I’m currently writing the sequel to The Dead Squire. It’s called The Dead Knight. It continues the story, and picks up right where the first book left off.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, Reddit has been great.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. Finish what you’re writing and continue to write every day. I can’t leave a story unfinished in my head. My mind constantly goes back to it, and takes up space that my current project needs. I like to finish each project before beginning the next one. I need closure.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Start writing and see where the characters take you. You don’t need to have the entire book outlined and planned out. Just write.

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading Impact Winter, by Travis Beacham.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to finish my series, then explore other genres and styles within the same universe. I want to do an apocalyptical thriller to explain how things got where they are in The Dead Squire.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A Song of Fire and Ice.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am from Australia, South Australia, and have written 2 books so far, with more planned.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The last book I published was King Arthur vs Robin Hood. It is a fantasy featuring the two titular characters in an all-new world. The idea started when I had separate projects for each character, and I wasn’t happy with how they were progressing. With that going nowhere, I combined the two ideas to have both characters in the same world.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No clue. I don’t think I could answer that accurately as I’m not the best judge of my own writing. So maybe that’s the unusual habit? Or maybe it’s that I write nearly exclusively in chronological order, with a rough framework of what the ending is supposed to be. Not sure if that is unusual though.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
To start with, J. R. R. Tolkien. I found his books and worlds fascinating as a young boy. Also George R. R. Martin (of a Song of Ice and Fire), Jonathan Stroud (of the Bartimaeus series), are big inspirations. Realistically, every book influences and inspires in some way.

What are you working on now?
Part 2, the sequel and final part to King Arthur vs Robin Hood.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Getting the name and cover of the book out there as much as possible. The more eyes see it the better, which hopefully translates to sales and good reviews.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Know how to market yourself and get your name out there. You can write the best book in the world, but if no one knows about it, they can’t buy it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Read a lot. Absorb writing styles, ideas, and get your head in the zone to write.

What are you reading now?
I am between books at the moment. Looking at re-reading an old favorite soon, maybe Mortal Engines or the Bartimaeus series.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After King Arthur vs Robin Hood 2, I have a number of different projects to start on. The Tales of Terrantis, an epic sprawling over a whole world’s history, or even a sci-fi!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
How to survive a desert island.
LOTR: The Return of the King – JRR Tolkien
Gardens of the Moon (Malazan) – Steven Erikson
A blank book (to write something myself)

Scott Bayles

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a pastor, husband, father, martial arts instructor, comic-book nerd, and cosplayer. I’ve authored six books and co-authored two more. All of my books are non-fiction Christian books that I hope enlighten and inspire readers.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Holy Heroes of the Bible: A Superhero Fan’s Guide to Become a Hero of Faith! As a huge comic-book and superhero fan myself, I wanted to introduce fellow fans (geeks) to some of the amazing heroes of the Bible. In it, I draw parallels between biblical heroes (like Mose, David and Jesus) and popular comic-book heroes (like Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man).

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I do all of my writing at my desk in my church office.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Christian authors like Max Lucado and Robert J Morgan were some of my inspirations. And fellow superhero fans, like H Michael Brewer and Ed Strauss, are also enormous influences.

What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on a study guide to accompany Holy Heroes of the Bible. As soon as that project is finished, I start work on a kids’ version of The Holy Heroes Devotional.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still trying to figure that out.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is simply to write something that you would enjoy reading.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice? It’s hard to narrow down. But one piece of advice that has always stuck with me is “Be careful to take from and experience only the wisdom that is in it” (Mark Twain).

What are you reading now?
The Kingstone Bible – a massive three volume comic-book adaptation of the Bible, and Unlocking A Broken World – a book about an inner city mission in Springfield.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m eager to begin writing for a broader Christian audience. After I’ve finished my more geeky material about heroes and villain, I plan to write about the life of Jesus, the early church, and the book of Revelation.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible (of course), the Action Bible by Sergio Cariello, and my own book – Holy Heroes: The Gospel According to DC & Marvel – because it contains stories and photos of my family and our cosplay adventures.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
First-time author! It’s been a dream of mine to write a book since I was in the fifth grade. My English teacher, Mrs. Blake, encouraged me to pursue writing outside of her classroom requirements. I’ve been hooked ever since, but kept putting this off…until my dad got Alzheimer’s. Then I knew it was time.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of the book is Ten Days With Dad: Finding Purpose, Passion, & Peace During the Darkest Days of Alzheimer’s and COVID-19. I knew I wanted to share my story the moment my dad got Alzheimer’s. Or I should say, after he spent ten days with me prior to moving into an assisted living apartment in 2019.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I prefer to write in the evenings with a bourbon nearby. Just one though!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King’s writing book, for starters.

What are you working on now?
Ten Days With Dad just launched March 13, 2022, so I will be promoting this for the remainder of 2022 (and beyond, until I launch my next book).

Ten Days will be a series. The next one has yet to be determined, but I’m hoping it will be about a former Marine and Secret Service agent turned entrepreneur. I want to learn other people’s “commandments for life” or Ten Rules they adhere to or learned from someone or someplace in their lives.

I also plan on turning the book into a screenplay, focusing on living with Alzheimer’s (victim perspective) and the caregiver’s angle.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It’s been Facebook so far. I have the largest following on that platform. I use LinkedIn, Instagram, and pretend to know what I am doing on Twitter–but have no idea, really!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes.
1. The first draft will be awful no matter what you do, so don’t try to make it good. Just get the words out. First drafts are not for perfectionists!
2. Write every day, even if it’s one paragraph.
3. Read other books in your genre.
4. Start building out one platform. If it’s Facebook, start reconnecting with old friends, teachers, coaches, etc. Just add and add friends, because they will help promote your book (and buy it) when the time comes.
4. Pursue your passion–just do it!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
On writing? Probably just write every day. Writing will never be easy, but ideas come easier when you are in the habit of writing every day. In life: “you’re only getting screwed if you think you’re getting screwed,” by Barry Resnick, my dad. Read the book!

What are you reading now?
Reading mainly other authors’ nonfiction books and helping them with Amazon reviews. It’s a two-way street. I read every day, a lot! My favorite books to read though are spy novels. Vince Flynn, Marc Cameron, Daniel Silva. Those guys are amazing.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Another Ten Days with _____, then a screenplay on the original book.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
One Goal by John Powers and Arthur Kaminsky (1980 hockey team)
All Politics is Local, Tip O’Neil
And Ten Days with Dad, of course!

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Before seriously taking up fiction writing, I worked as a graphic artist and early elementary teacher. I’ve written 5 complete novels and my novella, which is currently available as an e-book and in Read As You Go format from Indie Novella in the U.K. https://www.indienovella.co.uk/.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My novella is called Somebody Knows Something. I thought of the story after reading a newspaper article about a child who went missing from their front yard. The idea that a little kid can disappear in broad daylight like that really stuck with me. And thinking of all the children who’ve gone missing, never to be seen again got me thinking: somebody knows what happened to those kids. Could they keep something like that to themselves or would they have to tell somebody? That’s how my story came to be–telling the tale of one little missing girl and what may have happened to her.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing kind of runs the gamut: sometimes I write like a maniac, really inspired and driven to get the words out, but other times it’s like pulling teeth. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. I’ve actually dreamed one novel, beginning to end. Then again, another novel took months, literally, for me to write the ending so yeah, that’s how it is for me: unusual in that nothing is usual. 🙂

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I loved Wanda G’ag’s Millions of Cats (still do) and A Wrinkle of Time by Madeleine L’Engle. The former got me interested in great books, the latter, in great writers.

What are you working on now?
Kicking around ideas for my next work. I recently finished a novel so I’ll be looking for a home for that, and I’m working to publicize my recently published novella, too.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Somebody Knows Something is available thru my publisher, but not on Amazon or Kindle, so I’ve been promoting my novella on Goodreads, and seeking reviews from book influences on both sides of the pond.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up, that’s first. Have faith in your work, and even if you get a lot of rejections, remember that it only takes one agent or editor. Be ready to grow a thick skin, especially if you go the querying route. Seek out smart, savvy people to beta-read your stuff; they’ll see things you might not see and have some great ideas of how to make your good book even better. Be sure to edit, edit, and edit some more; editing is your friend. And don’t write in a vacuum–seek out other writers and writing sites (Indie Novella is a Social Enterprise model dedicated to helping out those in the writing industry, and Absolute Write has really been a godsend to me.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From my mom: The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

What are you reading now?
The Black Ice by Michael Connelly

What’s next for you as a writer?
Time will tell. I’m hoping my published novella is the start of wonderful things for me as a writer. I’d love to see some of my other novels published, esp. Soulless, Cherry, Effin’ Albert and Twink.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Probably 3 of my own books, and The Stand by Steven King.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a male romance author with a love of wine, women, whiskey and cigars, who enjoys steamy paranormal romance novels, among other things. I’ve written and published over 65+ titles, but most have been pulled from the now defunct publishers and will be re-released, alongside new material starting in Summer of 2022.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Paula’s Craving is my short erotic romance tale. It’s a rewrite of the first romance novel I never finished when I was in high school. Paula, this beautiful latina girl I had a crush on back then was the inspiration.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
None that I can think of. I write, listen to death metal at a loud volume, drink tea (usually Pu Erh or Yerba Mate), wash, rinse, repeat?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
JR Ward. (Black Dagger Brotherhood)
Christine Feehan
Nora Roberts (Her PNR stuff)
Tiffany Reisz (Original Sinners, thank you Kingsley!)
Sherrilyn Kenyon
Laurell K. Hamilton

What are you working on now?
The second full length Nights of Lust story in what should be a trilogy featuring sexy vampires, stoic but passionate heroes and a hell of a lot of action!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
AMZN Ads

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Grow a thick skin.
Write what you WANT.
Don’t listen to haters.
Grow a thick skin.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
STFU and write

What are you reading now?
Sadly, nothing at the moment.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have the third and final book in my Covenant of Wolves/Protectors series to write. Imagine if Faery looked more like a scene out of Terminator 2: Judgment day, rather than the magical kingdom we tend to think of it as. Then, bring in some werewolves and fae to take down a regime ruled by cybernetics, while fighting their internal passions.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
